But I specifically want to write about the mer one soooo

Alrighty, what I got for the mer first then. The type of deal Moon made "I'll give you back your shell and protect you from other predators if you let me swallow you whenever I want and help me prank my brother when asked." Reader asks about him eating them before and when they're alive then he'll avoid the truth by deflecting with "I had plans for you."

Sun really doesn't know how to deal with the fact Moon pretty much claimed the hermit crab for his collection of random things, reader is the first living thing Moon has done this to.

Moon likes to collect things as said before, random shells(Sun helps him find some), really smooth pebbles, stuff from shipwrecks, has a spyglass, a compass, some gold, a music box, a few swords, some jewels and now reader.

Sun tries to keep Moon gremlin under control and doesn't succeed sometimes (like with Moon suddenly deciding to nom reader instead of eat them then choosing to add them to his collect under the excuse of "new roommate")

Sun is pretty friendly, playful, kind, stressed when he needs to wrangle his brother, has anxiety due to some of the messes Moon got himself into when Sun wasn't watching him and won't really eat other Mer species, goes after regular fish, and dolphins like some other sharks do, eating something that can talk to him gives him a yucky feeling and would rather not feel like he's a murderer.

Moon has no problem eating other Mer because he feels like they thrash better that regular fish. Sometimes he'll bite if they have an exoskeleton or shell, sometimes he'll swallow them whole. If no mer are around he'll eat regular fish like Sun, and dolphins, and seals

Reader's shell and reader themself are not very big compared to the boys, readers shell is about as big as an normal sized apple in the boys hands. So that give you a good idea of reader's size as well.

The boys are going to take very good care of the hermit crab they found, they'll make sure the chest they put reader in wouldn't leak, if it does they'll have to look for something else, luckily won't leak, the chest is extremely well made. It's a good sized chest. Think a large trunk or the average foot locker.

They'll fill the bottom with about four inches of sand, take a few small rocks with algae from tide pools as well as a couple with very short seaweed, they fill the trunk with water once they get back on their ship.

They'll dump reader and their shell into it after it's finish. They'll both nom reader sometimes, but they're not rough about it.

They make sure that reader is well fed, give them meat, leafy greens and like most hermit crabs reader has a sweet tooth, they really like the fruit, Sun loves to watch reader eat when he gives them apple slices because of the happy and excited face reader makes and how cute they look once they have the large apple slice and starts nibbling it with obvious enjoyment.

They keep the chest near the desk Sun sits at to manage the ships logs and chart courses. While reader quickly learns these preds aren't playing for keeps they don't start warming up to them until after the boys start giving them fruit.

That's it for pirates now onto plex

After the plex is closed Moon discovered readers container by chance when he heard odd noises, found a lunchbox making those noises, got curious, decided he'd take it back to the daycare and show Sun so they could both see what's inside it because it might be contraband that they'll have to report.

They did not expect the fish container with a tiny crab mer in it, Moon's reaction is "what the hell" while Sun's is more an excited "mermaids are real!". Then they realize they have no idea what to do with this frightened little hermit crab or how to take care of them, Moon bypasses the firewall, can't find anything on the mer but does find stuff on hermit crabs, draws the conclusion that's what type of mer reader is and researchers a bunch of stuff about hermit crabs.

The plex does not have what's needed to take care of reader properly, Moon tells Sun to watch them then leaves.

Sun starts rambling to the hermit crab about the plex, the daycare, his brother, stuff that's happed with reader slowly getting comfortable enough to speak with him. Sun is elated they can talk to him.

Moon left because he need to focus so he won't leave a trace when he hacks the plex's inventory orders and mixes in orders for what's needed to take care of a hermit crab into the orders for the daycare and kinda burying it under other things so it won't get caught.

Till then reader is going to have to stay in that tiny thing and they'll have to work on getting things reader can eat. They at least have some fresh fruit and nuts they can give the crab to hold them over till they get all the supplies they need..

Boys will eventually get curious on what the crab tastes like so they bring up noms as a topic with reader, they'll eventually convince to let them nom but reader will have to trust the boys enough to leave their shell on their own, Moon will end up puncturing a small hole in the shell by accident. Reader's forgiving about it, the next time boys wanna nom one of them brings up the idea of slurping reader out of their shell since there's no chance of injuring them when they do from suction thanks to the hole Moon accidentally made.
