its so weird to me how people will freak out if they visit a historical site which may have had any connection at all to trans-atlantic slavery, meanwhile every day thousands of people go visit the giant stadiums built with slave labor where ancient romans used to watch enslaved people kill each other, criminals get eaten alive, and animal cruelty be performed on a massive scale for fun and entertainment and nobody bats an eye
#idk like ancient rome esp makes it fully clear that the average person is totally capable of understanding cultural mores#and viewing them as 'normal' within the culture and values of the time#and are willfully refusing to do so Just when it comes to transatlantic slavery#it bugs the hell out of me#either slavery in america was as normalized a part of life as other forms were for everyone else and not the One Bad Thing#that you Must freak out about#or that energy should be applied across the board#you can't go anywhere in Russia bc they used serfs#the coliseum is a place of horror that you can't bear to talk about#don't you dare think of visiting the forbidden city you fucking Ghoul#etc.#like just make it make sense at least for the love of god
