as season 7 gets animated, i keep seeing endeavor apologists. i can agree that he's an amazingly written character, but two things can be write at once, yes he's wonderfully written, but his actions ( his atonement ) don't mean shit because shoto still had to atone for endeavor's sins. sins, that shoto did not commit. he is a child, having to deal with the repercussions of his father's actions. everyone keeps saying toya didn't stop when endeavor wanted him too even though his quirk kept hurting him.

but lets think about why toya and his siblings were created in the first place. lets also address that if endeavor even gave a fuck about toya in the first place, he would have gotten support gear for him. he only taught him how to burn, he never got him to self regulate. at that age, toya should've had a quirk counselor, he should've gotten more than some half assed training from the number two hero that didn't see toya as his son, but as someone who should've surpassed all might. endeavor failed toya in every way.

now im not saying that who toya is now is someone who deserves redemption or that his actions shouldn't be condemned. but he was a kid, whose only goal, drilled into his head was to defeat/surpass allmight. to then have endeavor abandon him, with every sibling born, to him was a betrayal, and he felt it to his core. so yes his obssession and disgust only grew but with no one to help him self regulate, it's not a reach to say his core reason for the long game after burning on sekoto peak, then coming back to see endeavor was still at, subsequently not revealing him, is because nothing would have changed. endeavor doesn't deserve atonement, because he didn't recognize that abuse and abandonment and neglect wasn't okay, not even after becoming the number one hero fell into his lap. yes, he's trying to change, but it doesn't take away decades of abuse, and there's a lot he needs to do moving forward.

the whole i can't fight my son falls flat for me because what about shoto ? isolated from his siblings and having to deal with enji ? he can barely take enji reaching for him without flinching, like come on.

anyway this was long winded and im annoyed, because lets just bffr, endeavor is a great hero but a terrible father, and the only way i can see this ending is for him to completely get out of the todoroki's life so they can heal.
