#doesn't have much to do with flevance or canon though

Inspired by the last ask you answered, I decided to also send you a question. There is one thing constantly catching my attention every time I return to flashback of Flevance. Who was Law's dad talking on the phone with? He was clearly asking someone for help, but was refused. "Why isn't government announcing that amber lead syndrome isn't contagious?", that question wouldn't make sense, unless he's actually talking to someone really high up in the hierarchy, or am I reaching here? In the anime they even showed his den den mushi, it was mimicking a guy with a moustache, hm. And that creates many, many questions. Penny for your thoughts!
OH this panel completely slipped my mind 👁️
That's a great point! Somehow I never paid attention to the speaker.
I didn't watch the anime, and lazily assumed that Law's dad was venting out his frustration after the person on the other end hung the phone. But that doesn't seem to be the case. So I checked the Japanese scans.
The speaker's language seems very casual. "Not possible, at all...not over there" - sounds more like a colleague in medical profession from outside White city. At least, not someone really high up, like the Gorosei.
(It just struck to me that Law's father was criticizing the government's passiveness...like they had a functioning government in the first place? Maybe they had constitutional monarchy, or a proxy head of state after the royalty left?)
Speaking of the Gorosei, Law's family roots trace back to the ancient enemies of the World Government, and Clover's recent flashback implies that the Marines tracked down and killed some "D"s who had hidden their names. I can imagine the Trafalgar family being quietly monitored under similar suspicion.
Even worse, maybe the Gorosei discovered that a family of "D"s lived in White City, which was one of the (many more) incentives to completely smother the town and annihilate everyone living there.
#law's parents must've had a story of their own#actually there's a popular japanese fic where law fights off an epidemic and revives his father's research data#you can look up 天使に捧げるオラトリオ on pixiv novels!#doesn't have much to do with flevance or canon though#thanks for the penny for thought!#one piece#trafalgar law#one piece meta#mine#asks

Now that gender swapped Law is canon, I’m curious to know how Hikari would take it if all her boys got (temporarily) gender swapped? And vice versa, like how the guys would take it if Hikari became Hikaru.
I've actually thought about this a bit, since we have Ivankov as a character that can do this (I probably won't add in a 'gender-bend sickness', seems a little off...), and have thought about how each would react.
Hikari? Mostly surprised, maybe a bit tired like "Dude, I've had a hell of a week, did you have to do this now?" but generally not bothered. She has a lot of trauma from being a woman that men have tried to sexually take advantage of, and might even be relieved for however long it lasts. Luffy and Zoro would definitely not care, they love Kari for being Kari, Law would worry she might experience some sort of dysphoria, and Kid would then come to terms with being bisexual, because he would totally still think Kari's hot.
Luffy does not care at all. Boy, girl, he's still going to be Pirate King! Might take advantage of Sanji to get more food, though. Kari would mostly be trying to keep him out of the unguarded fridge, Zoro would likewise not care, Law would start worried and then start wondering about rubber powers + female body, and Kid would have the irresistible urge to use Luffy’s new boobs as squeeze toys.
Zoro also doesn't care, unless he loses strength/muscle mass in the change. Body builder female Zoro? Perfectly fine, if ready to cut Sanji’s dick off for suddenly being friendly. Luffy sees no difference except there's a cleavage to cuddle into, Hikari is occupied keeping him and Sanji separated, Law again worries and then starts having ideas, and Kid is again faced with his bisexuality and how much he actually cares about his partners as people.
I can see Law having the hardest time, mostly because he has so much wrapped up in his identity as his parents' son, his sister's big brother, the last survivor of Flevance, the sick boy that Cora-san saved, that he would definitely have a little dysphoria but be comforted by his SOs not treating him any differently. Luffy and Zoro would definitely be curious, and Luffy try to suffocate in Law’s new boobs, but otherwise still be normal, Kari would be sympathetic and likely threaten Ivankov to change him back, and Kid would add some threats of his own after getting a couple teases in.
Like Zoro, so long as Kid doesn't lose any strength/muscle, he generally doesn't care...unless someone tries to imply he's weaker for being a woman, then heads will roll. Not only for them thinking he's weak, but also the idea that Kari or any of the other women on their crews are weak by virtue of their physical gender. Luffy likes that it's more comfy to lie on Kid when he has boobs, Zoro doesn't see much difference, Kari tries to stop him from killing anyone, and Law worries again and then decides to just join in.
