do you think the greatgrandchildren will be at phil's funeral?
I don’t know. I’m leaning towards no primarily because there’s only 30 spots but also because it’ll be such an intimate ceremony. If it was just a normal funeral service, it’d be a bit easier to “hide” but with the limited amount of people there, they’d be a bit more exposed.
I’m positive that once it’s a bit easier to gather and there’s a bit less pandemic to worry about, there’ll be a grand memorial service for Philip and I feel that would be a much better opportunity for the great-grandchildren to be included. But obviously I could be wrong.
This would be my shot at attendees:
Essentials: The Queen, Charles, Camilla, William, Catherine, Harry, Anne, Tim, Peter, Zara, Andrew, Beatrice, Eugenie, Edward, Sophie, Louise, James, Lady Pamela Hicks, Archie Miller-Bakewell
Most likely:
Mike (but might stay home with the kids)
Jack (but might stay home with August)
Edo (but has only been a part for the family for a relatively short time – if it’s between him and a closer relative, maybe he’d want to give “his” spot up?)
Princess Alexandra (very close to both the Queen and Philip – I’m pretty sure there’ll be at least one Kent representative since they were also Philip’s cousins and if there’s only one, I’m sure it’ll be Alexandra)
David and Sarah (pretty sure Margaret’s family will be represented as well)
Also all pretty likely but maybe not as likely as the above:
The Countess Mountbatten of Burma (judging from how he looked at the late Countess’ funeral three years ago, I’d say Norton is too ill to attend, and Penny was very close to Philip) OR Lady Alexandra Knatchbull (Penny was very close to Philip and maybe her going could prompt inappropriate comments about the nature of their relationship, so maybe they’d opt to send Alexandra instead as a Knatchbull rep – she’s also the mother of Philip’s, I believe, youngest godchild)
The Duke of Kent (like Alexandra, not just a cousin of the Queen but also of Philip – additionally his oldest son is Philip’s godchild)
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester (maybe the BRF wants representatives from both branches of the Queen’s cousins, maybe not – Birgitte is Danish though and considering Philip’s background, it might be a lovely tribute to have her there)
Autumn (sort of Edo’s opposite – separated from Peter but has been a member of the family for so many years)
The great-grandchildren (impossible to say who if so and I think it also depends on who wants to go – if any of them goes, my guess would be the eldest three, Savannah, Isla and George)
Outer tier of likeliness:
Mr Sarah (he’d obviously only go if Sarah goes but I could imagine David and Sarah going together so as to make room for as many different relatives as possible)
Ashley Hicks (not entirely sure how well Pamela is, a lot of people on TRF seem to think she needs to be accompanied – if so, her son Ashley is actually Philip’s godson)
The Duchess of Kent (she just doesn’t attend a lot of family things anymore)
Prince and Princess Michael of Kent (I mean who wants Princess Michael at their regular, non-COVID funeral, let alone having to cut genuinely pleasant people you care about out to make room for her – Michael would be a casualty of his wife but maybe don’t marry a knob then?)
