-Alright, everyone, settle down.. I SAID SETTLE DOWN, SUGAR.
-I have settled!
-Yes you’ve settled into my attic alright, deadbeat loser, now sit your ass down. Alright.. I have gathered all of you here tonight to discuss the deadly events of Cyneswith’s party.. And I’m not referring to the death of her youth.
-Daddy!! Mean!!!🌸
-SILENCE. Now, let’s recount that fateful day from the start..
-Grandpa, can I just say something?
-Oh my- what is it, Sugar?
-I think I should be exempt from this since I was otherwise occupied on the fateful day!
-Yes, we all remember you occupying Jessica Picasso's vagina! Have you no shame, you absolute degenerate?? First you break up your family over that Don clone and then you bring her to my house???
-I love her and I don’t care what any of you think!
-That’s good because we all think you’re a loser, now shut up! Alright Cyn, tell us what happened.
-Well, I had been having a really hard time with the constant cheating and making up with Donnie and iVan, huhu..💗
-Then iVan got that stupid doctor job and brought Neon Vest Downtownie over and I got caught cheating by Donnie again..🌸
-And then Neon Vest Downtownie tried to have his first kiss with me and I was like, um PLEASE, just because I’m in love with you and publicly banged you in a Downtown hot tub you think I’m gonna kiss you??💗
-Then I tried to make up with Donnie and I forgot to use Sugar first, I mean the voodoo doll not my nephew Sugar, and so Don rejected me but Neon Vest caught me cheating and I got slapped again!!🌸
-So finally it was like enough is enough and I rolled the want to get a job one day away from elderhood!💗
-And then I got fired that very same evening and then I had my party! Huhu! So I’m not at fault for the deadly event because I wasn’t even here!!!🌸
-You just said you were here, having your yard affairs!
-Daddy it’s not my fault my milkshake literally brings all the boys to the yard! Right, Donnie?💗
-Right, moonflower.
-See?? So why doesn’t whoever I’m pointing at tell us what they were doing?? I don’t even know who it is, oh right, it’s Shajar!🌸
-I got this, darling. Me and Shaj were busy all day.
-Yes, we were busy all day!
-Ya right, doing what?💗
-Making preparations for YOUR party, Cyn, you ungrateful brat!
-If a meteor hits us we won’t have to go to fucking Cyn’s party!
-Ugh, if only, my little turbocuck.
-So if it’s a crime that I wanted to throw an amazing party for my sister so we can finally put old enmities behind us, then lock me up!
-Is it just me or are we conducting this investigation into the deadly event in the stupidest way possible?
-Spoken like someone who has something to hide, huhu!🌸
-We have to get to the bottom of this, Sophito, Sandy Fairchild is dead again! What if the next person to die is someone who actually matters?
-Well Liz and I have ironclad alibies, we were at work-
-That’s right, and we definitely didn’t get sent home early for banging in the supply closet..
-Then I went to visit my dads..
-And I brought over Klaus to procreate with Kitana..
-And Xander to procreate with Servilia! So there you go, you’re welcome..
-And then I shockingly rolled the want to have a baby so I put on my sexy yet classy lingerie and Sophito knocked me up right on Jojo’s bed!
-I sure did!
-GROSS, is that why I keep finding teeth in my bed?!
-Ya, some of my teeth implants fell out due to impact.
-OH MY- You know what, let’s wrap this shitshow up. The night of the party..
-..I was fixing iVan who had broken down for the billionth time due to exhaustion from his ridiculous new medical job..
-That he had to get to fulfill his LTW since he was always near aspiration failure! Courtesy of catching me cheating and getting beat up by Donnie in his hot little hat, huhu!💗
-I can’t believe how much I hate my children. Let us continue..
-With iVan working, we have been left unbutlered. Sandy returned from work starving and stinking, and brought with her Glitched Butler #2, reminding us of why we can’t replace iVan with a NPC butler..
-At which point I spurred into action and told him to leave, no need to thank me, huhu!🌸
-No one is thanking you, Cyneswith.
-Daddy you’re so mean to me today!!!💗
-Maybe because you’ve turned my life’s biggest scientific achievement into your sex toy!
-It’s not my fault you made him so hot!!!🌸
-Oh Sandy, you lucky dead zombie, it should have been me! Let’s figure out who’s at fault already so I can go wait for the wolf! So Sandy returns from work. Cyneswith also returns having been hilariously fired on her first day..
-I throw Cyneswith’s birthday party so I can invite the wolf to it..
-The only reason you threw me a party was to fulfil your deranged werewolf want??💗
-Yes. I also order groceries since no one has bothered to THE ENTIRE DAY and our fridge is completely empty.
-The wolf arrives, I make some valuable progress with him..
-The other, non-wolf guests also start to gather but who cares, certainly not me..
-Cyneswith blows her candles surrounded by her loved ones and Neon Vest Downtownie..
-And grows up into a hideous hippie outfit I’m glad I wasn’t around to see.
-The fireworks Cyneswith insisted on go off..
-Their sound covering Sandy’s anguished cries as she starves to death due to our fridge being empty while Gunther is singing karaoke..
-And is then disgusted by her lack of hygiene. Can’t blame him.
-I go over to mourn Sandy as Cyneswith is scared by the ghost of Victor and pisses her pants..
-You could have left that part out!🌸
-I know.
-And finally, Sophie dances on Sandy’s grave.
-It was a somber song of mourning, of course.
-It was ‘I Will Survive’.
-Now as this recap has clearly showed, not only did none of you order groceries the entire day, but you didn’t even bother accepting the lifesaving order I made, leading to Sandy Fairchild’s completely preventable second death! So fess up! Who was it?? Who saw the delivery person and ignored them???
-Ugh, Jojo, no offense, but since you ordered the groceries, wouldn’t you be the logical choice to accept the the delivery?
-Oh right, of course, I’m sorry Don, I forgot that if I don’t do everything around YOU IDIOTS WILL LITERALLY STARVE TO DEATH.
-No, I’m just saying that you know-
-OOOOOOH MY GOD. I REMEMBER NOW. Ok grandpa, don’t be mad.
-Choose your next words at your own peril, Sugar.
-Ok so I was in crypt, getting my Jessica Picasso on and her jewelry off, if you know what I’m talking about..
-We don’t know what you’re talking about.
-Come on Liz, you know how I like to eat jewelry, what do you think happened to your pearl necklace?
-EWWWWW
-Ya ya whatever, so the delivery guy got confused like they do when a house has two doors, and he knocked on the crypt instead of the front door. So I automatically answer and accept the groceries and was totally gonna get them to the fridge but I was literally DRIPPING of Jessica Picasso-
-THAT’S IT I’M GONNA PUKE
-Oh you’re one to talk Liz, remember our pool table in uni? ANYWAY, so I accepted the groceries but since there’s no fridge in the crypt despite my REPEATED REQUESTS, I then automatically put them on the nearest table!
-THERE IS NO EMPTY TABLE IN THE CRYPT, MORON
-Oh yes there is, grandpa..
-The empty table slot where your urn should be! But you refuse to die, so in a way, this is all your fault!
-MY FAULT?!?!?! MY. FAULT?????? YOU ARE ALL DOOMED WITHOUT ME. We’re done here, I call final curtain on this meeting.
-But it really seems like this was all your fault, Daddy💗
-Ya Dad, when are you gonna call final curtain on your life?
-Also no offense but who even cares that Sandy died?🌸
-True, I don’t understand why we had to have this meeting.
-REALLY. You ‘don’t understand’ why we had to have a meeting about you people being unable to feed yourselves?!?
-I understand, Jojo.
-FINALLY. THANK YOU SOPHIE
-I knew I made the right call leaving my entire fortune to you, and before I die, I’d like to legally adopt you! You two, you’re disowned.
-Oh Jojo, you’re gonna make me cry!
-Shaj, what the fuck is happening?💗
-I’m married to the Union heir, that’s what’s happening! HUHU

My favorite pairing is probably DrPepperony if I had to choose one, and I'm a sucker for 30 (the protective one). While I tend to swerve to "people protecting Stephen", please write it however you'd like - if you're interested in this combination. :)
Thank you for the ask, @aelaer 💕
I love drpepperony and I was very happy to write this OT3 with this prompt. It's a bit longer than I thought, and maybe not exactly what you imagined. I hope you like it!
~~~
drpepperony, pre-relationship (could almost be read as gen), hurt stephen, with a bit of blood, protective pepper, protective tony, not clint friendly (sorry i had to find sort of a bad guy), post Endgame but Tony lives and Steve died
~~~
“If you’re so powerful, why couldn’t you save her?!”
Clint’s shout echoed on the lawn, all the way to the cabin. Tony instantly got to his feet.
“Stay with uncle Happy, Maguna.”
He left his drink on a table, and his daughter under Happy’s careful watch, and hurried outside. When he pushed the front door, he frowned, deeply unhappy with the scene.
“I’m sorry,” Stephen whispered in such a thin voice Tony wasn’t sure anyone heard him –not sure the guy even wanted to be heard.
“You’re sorry? Is that what you just mumbled?” Clint answered, his tone getting angrier and angrier with each word.
“I am truly deeply sorry,” Stephen articulated more clearly this time.
It did not seem to appease Clint. At all.
“Well, great! You’re sorry. But Nat is dead because of you. And your sorry ass apologies won’t do shit to bring her back!”
Clint was furious. He was grieving. But he was taking it out on the wrong guy.
“It’s all your fault!”
Stephen didn’t move, didn’t even blink when Clint lurched forward and punched him square in the face. He fell backwards and blood splattered on the ground.
“It’s all your fucking fault!” Clint bellowed as Sam and Bucky restrained him, tried to stop him from attacking again.
He almost tore free, and Tony took a step forward. He was all for letting his fellow Avengers sort things out between themselves the way they wanted to –and if they had to punch some sense into each other from time to time, well it was their business. But no one was getting beaten up, without even trying to resist, on his lawn.
But before Tony could say anything, Pepper stepped into the scene.
“What is going on here?” she asked in her no-nonsense voice. Se didn’t wait for someone to answer –as if there even was a correct way to answer when she used that voice. “No one is fighting in my home! Today, we celebrate those we brought back, and we grieve those we lost. This is not a time for fighting and I will not tolerate it. Is that clear?”
Clint might try to protest, there was no way he would sway Pepper. He was an Avenger. She was even more dangerous, Tony thought with pride. Looked like he could let his wife handle the dirty business.
He crossed the lawn, got to the poor wizard still slumped on the ground, haggard and defeated. His nose was bleeding profusely, and the corner of his eye was starting to turn purple. Tony grabbed him by the shoulder.
“Come on. Let me take care of you.”
Stephen looked up at him. There was a deep sadness, a resigned look in his eyes that broke Tony’s heart. Then Stephen got up and it was gone. They walked silently through the crowd, crossed the lawn and reached the house. Tony pushed him as carefully as he could in a bathroom.
“Here we go,” he said softly, helping Stephen sit on the edge of the tub. “Fri, where’s the first aid kit?”
“Under the sink, boss,” the AI answered immediately and Tony dived under the sink to retrieve the little box, opening it to get some cotton balls and antiseptic, though he wasn’t sure what to do with those. “May I suggest the ice pack, boss?”
“You’re the best, baby girl.”
“Of course,” she answered, and Tony chuckled.
He went back to Stephen with a slightly wet towel to wipe off the blood while he handed him the cold pack. Stephen’s fingers shook wildly when he took it and pressed it on the side of his head, with a painful wince.
“You don’t have to do all this,” the Wizard of Oz finally said. “I’m okay.”
“Yeah, look in the mirror, doc, and tell that to your face,” Tony scoffed.
He got a brief glimpse of a smile before he moved the towel over nose, lips, chin, and all the mess of blood that covered Stephen’s face.
“Why didn’t you send Clint to the Sinister Dimension or whatever the name of that hellish world is?” Tony asked, trying not to wince with Stephen every time the towel stroked over a sensitive area.
“Dark Dimension,” Stephen corrected.
“Sure.”
A moment of silence passed. Tony took the time to rinse the blood out of the towel before applying it again. It seemed like the bleeding had stopped. That only left the big ugly contusion at the corner of Stephen’s eye. Ouch, that looked painful.
“Fri, can you scan our good doctor? Make sure there are no deeper wounds?”
“I’m fine,” Stephen protested with another wince that said otherwise.
“Fri?”
“The good doctor is right, boss. No deeper injury.”
“Great.”
As Tony looked at the slumped and beaten up form in front of him, it seemed that nothing was great. If there were no physical wounds, it seemed that there was a more profound, more painful, psychological one. That man was wounded, burned out, and morally exhausted. And Tony was suddenly filled with the impulse to help him, to fix this, whatever this was.
He wanted to see the powerful and cocky sorcerer he clashed with, when they first met.
He wanted the weirdly flirty wink after great prowess of magic, and butting heads with someone that didn’t take his nonsense but actually listened to him, and compromised.
“So, why didn’t you stop him?” he asked again after a minute of almost comfortable silence.
He threw the bloody towel in the laundry basket and leaned against the sink, watching Stephen intently.
“Because he’s grieving. And he’s right,” Stephen answered in a too small voice.
Defeated.
Tony was not taking any of it. If Pepper had to protect Stephen from Clint, Tony would have to protect Stephen from himself, apparently. It was far from the weirdest thing he had ever done.
“Bullshit. It’s not your fault.”
Stephen arched an eyebrow behind the cold pack, before he winced and dropped it. Tony picked it up for him and, instead of giving it back to the wizard, he brought it up to Stephen’s face and gently hold it up against his temple. Stephen just sighed, closed his eyes for a second, letting Tony take care of him. The situation was slightly more intimate than Tony anticipated but it warmed his heart to see Stephen accept his help. And yeah, he could see himself get closer to the wizard in the near future.
“It’s not your fault,” he repeated.
“It kinda is. I chose this path, the one where Natasha and Steve had to die. Their deaths are on my hands.”
“That’s just pure bullshit! You didn’t push Nat on Vormir, she jumped. You didn’t put the gauntlet on Steve’s hand, he took it and snapped his own fingers knowing he would not survive it. You did not murder them. They chose to sacrifice themselves to save us all, and believe me, I would have done the same thing, without blaming you. You know what you did?”
“Wallow in self-pity, dishonoring their great sacrifice?” he whispered defeated and seemingly disgusted with himself.
“No.” Damn, that man really needed to be protected from himself. Tony knew a thing or two about blaming himself for everything, but Strange was on another level completely. “You put us on the right path, you risked your sanity to view all those possible futures and other timeline. You are a hero.”
That seemed to finally shut Stephen up. He blinked, looked up at Tony, but this time, there was something different in his eyes. A deep emotion Tony couldn’t really name. It made his heart race.
Stephen’s hand rose, lightly touched Tony’s at the side of his head. It was delicate and far more intimate than he expected. But before Tony could say anything else, the bathroom’s door opened, and Pepper stepped in.
Stephen quickly took his hand away, but Tony kept his position. There was nothing he wanted to hide from his wife. Besides, if something ever happened with the wizard, he was pretty sure Pepper would want to be included. Yep, that would be very nice actually, the three of them in the cabin. Tony could almost picture it.
Wait, he was thinking a bit ahead of himself, wasn’t he? Well, who could blame him, he was a futurist, after all.
“Are you okay, Dr. Strange?” Pepper asked.
“You can call me Stephen. And yes, I’m okay. Tony took care of me.”
Pepper looked at her husband. Tony winked, she smirked in return. His hand was still pressed against Stephen’s head –there was a cold pack between them, but did that really matter?
Pepper went to Stephen’s other side, carefully took his chin in her hand to examine him –and there was no cold pack or any medical supply to excuse the proximity. Stephen tensed for a second, then he relaxed in her grip.
“You did well,” Pepper finally concluded, with a small stroke on Stephen’s cheek. The wizard shuddered. Then she stepped back and the fluttering moment was over. “Tony, you stay with him, I’m gonna send everyone home,” she ordered more than asked.
“Yes, Ma’am,” Tony answered immediately.
“And Stephen?”
“Yes?”
“Stay for dinner with us tonight. Please?”
A moment of hesitation, blue-green eyes jumping from Tony to Pepper, a gulp and finally.
“I will.”
Well, well, well, Tony thought. That was a very interesting turn of events. He couldn’t wait to see where all of this would lead them.

Do you still love me?
Hello lovelies! Today I am back with a angst piece but a happy ending don't fret too much! I was really thinking about making it end horribly or leaving it up to the readers imagination but I decided nahh i couldn't do that to my heart. So here Bakugou and his s/o who fell out of love??(or did they??) when then have a large family in the mix. I have also decided im kind of obsessed with domestic pieces lol, they are like more than half of all my posts. Anywho, reader is neutral hope you guys enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bakugou Katsuki x Reader
You and Bakugou call its quits not thinking of what it would do to your 5 kids who are stuck in the middle
Words: 3606
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Are we going to dad’s today?” Hiroyuki asked softly.
“Yeah, your going to spend the weekend with him, all of you.” You smiled at him.
“Can I bring Tokki?” He said looking at the ground already knowing your answer.
“We went over this last time baby, Daddy can't have pets at his new place and Tokki is a cat, he likes staying at home.” You said with a sigh. It really sucks that it came down to this, spend a week with you then a weekend with dad, then rinse repeat. Sometimes you even wondered if it was better. That’s what you and Bakugou told each other, I mean what else can you do when you fall out of love? You approached your car where all of your other children were waiting. You and Hiroyuki sat down and signaled the diver to go.
“We going to daddy’s right?” Kohana said as she bounced around in her seat. You booped her nose and nodded at her.
“Yay, daddy’s home!” Yoko said, clapping.
“Don't get excited Yoko, Dad’s probably busy. Were probably gonna be with Grandpa and Grandma.” Hiroyuki said playing with your fingers.
“You're so dramatic Yuki! Of course dad is busy! He is a Hero but he always makes time for us.” Your oldest said little explosion going off around her.
“Kaori.” You warned her with a stern voice. The little sparks calmed and she went back to quietly gazing out the window.
“Your dad is a hero and therefore busy but I know he is very excited to see you all and will spend all the time he has with you.” You smiled at them. They all smiled back before going back into relative silence. When you and Bakugou decided to have a big family you were ecstatic and so was he. This, however, wasn't what you imagined. A tiny rift right threw your family and it was growing bigger everyday. When you told the kids about the spilt they didnt say much and the youngest ones didnt even really understand but as they lived through it, they changed. They formed their own opinions about who’s fault it is and why it happened. And now they were splitting up, there was Kaori the eldest who didn't care too much, Yoko, and Kohana. At the opposite end was Hiroyuki, just him. Your fragile little boy who was so sure it was his dad’s fault. Saiyuri was too young to choose a side but all the change wasn't really helping the 11th month old baby.
“We have arrived.” The diver announced. You thanked him while getting everyone out of the seats and exiting the car. Bakugou lived in an apartment now at the tippy top of course. It was a long and loud elevator ride as your kids were antsy to see their dad. When it opened Bakugou was standing there waiting for them and was immediately met with an armful of girls.
“Daddy! I missed you so much!” Kohana said almost in tears.
“Misses Daddy.” Yoko echoed her sister.
“Yeah, I missed all you brats too, you better have been on your best behavior! You have to keep up the Bakugou reputation.” He teased them
“Of course we have! I'm still number one in my quirk development classes. Yuki has the best grades in all of his grade. Kohana is reading at a 3rd grade level already and Yoko and Saiyuri are everyone's favorite at the Daycare!” Kaori said with vigor.
“Yeah, your all Bakugou’s for sure.” He chuckled at them. He turned to talk to Hiroyuki but he was gone. You heard a door shut, he was probably already in his room.
“I've got homework to do dad and them we should do something all together!” Kaori said kissing his check before taking off. Her sisters followed her as usual.
“How long do you think he’ll be like that?” Bakugou asked you with a sigh.
“Honestly I don't know, it's not like I tell him awful things about you. Maybe it would have been better if we did cause then he would have one thing to be angry about, one event, It would be easier than him just being angry at you.” You said placing Saiyuri onto the ground to walk around.
“They’re so mature and smart I forget they’re so young. Hell we don't understand why it happened, you can't just pinpoint a time where you fell outta love, it’s gradual. So how can we expect them too.” Bakugou said, sounding in pain.
“Yeah, sucks they had to witness it. I’ve got to go meet up with someone but just… He thinks you’re going to call your parents and abandon them to do Hero work. I know you can't put off everything but I think he just wants to know that for once he can come first to you.” You said as you kissed Saiyoui’s forehead. You were about to enter the elevator when a weight crashed into you. You didn't have to look down too far to see Hiroyuki hugging you.
“Take care of Tokki, please.”
“Yes and you make sure you and your sisters behave for your dad.” He sighed but nodded at you. You gave him one last hair ruffle before leaving. You couldn't help but think this wasn't ever gonna get any easier. You sighed before heading to the next destination, a café to meet with a few of your friends.
“Y/N!” You heard a voice call to you as soon as you opened the door. You identified the voice as Mina.
“Mina! Long time no see!” You said giving her a hug.
“Y/n, dear come sit down.” Momo said smiling at you, you sat down with the group.
“How are you doing.” Mina asked you cautiously
“I’m surprisingly doing awful, I see Bakugou too much to truly get over him. The kids are still adjusting to us being apart and Hiroyuki has been really upset and distant. I thought breaking up would fix a lot but it just made everything worse.” You sighed out.
“Well of course it did!!!” Urakara whisper yelled.
“You and Bakugou called it quits way too soon! I've never seen someone handle Bakugou the way you do. I’ve never seen anyone love him like you. Hell Bakugou loves you so much it’s ridiculous! Do you remember when he was gonna put his hero work on hold because of Kaori! I’m sorry y/n but I’m not buying this fell out of love thing.” Deku rushed out.
“Mm I’d have to agree. If there is anything I’ve learned from being friends with Bakugou it’s that he never half ass anything and if he put time into it he’s gonna see it through till the end so, logically it doesn’t make sense.” Todoroki said quietly.
“Yeah so what’s your side of the story?” Mina asked carefully.
“I… loved him, you know and when we had kids it only intensified but now it’s different. Bakugou is a great dad don’t get me wrong but he’s absent and that was fine when it was just me, Kaori, Hiroyuki, and Kohana but now there is Yoko and Saiyuri. It’s hard when they all have different school times and different needs cause of their ages. It’s hard because I had to put part of my life on hold, I went to UA too and I was supposed to be one of the greatest support people out there, every agency would want me. But it was Bakugou’s dream first so I sacrificed it all in a heartbeat. Over the years he just got more busy and I got more left behind. I’m tired of waiting up till 3am to make sure he’s alright knowing I have to be up at 7 to get the kids ready for school. I… love him and I don’t want to argue with him and I could feel myself growing angry at him, feel myself growing resentful. So I brought it up under the disguise of “do you still love me” and he said No… so that was that and we were done the next week.” You said not meeting their eyes. They just looked at you with wide eyes.
“Y/n I’m sorry, I didn’t know you felt like this.” Momo said softly.
“It’s fine, he is the love of my life and our kids are my everything so I would do it all again, just for them.” You smiled with a few tears cascading down your face.
“You haven’t tried to talk to him about this, you still love him, you guys can fix this.” Deku said almost mumbling.
“But he doesn’t love me and so there is nothing to talk about. Now come on let’s talk about something else. You can hear sob stories like mine anytime.” You waved them off. They were hesitant but the conversation did pick up about their lives and your time at UA, at least the happy parts. The rest of your two days without your kids were a blur. You just remember waking up with your phone going off a Monday.
“Hello is this Bakugou Y/n?” A women’s said. The title hurt just a bit.
“Yes it is.” You responded drowsily.
“I am very sorry you have to receive a call like this but your son Bakugou Hiroyuki has been rushed to the hospital, his sister did refuse to leave his side so she is there as well.” You were silent before hanging up and immediately calling Bakugou.
“What’s up?” He rushed out. He sounded panicked so he must have gotten a call too.
“I need you to pick up Yoko and Saiyuri.” You said rushing to put in on your clothes.
“What? But yuki is in the hospital, we’ve got to be there.” He said
“Yes but they are done with daycare in.” You paused to look at the clock on your way out the door. “A hour. If we don’t get them now we’ll have to leave him to get them.” You said finally in your car.
“Yeah and he would rather be with you than me…” he trailed off.
“I didn’t say that.” You rushed out
“You didn’t need to, I'll get them and be there as soon as I can.” He said hanging up. You sighed and continued your drive to the hospital. When you got there you rushed to the room where you looked in and saw your son unconscious and Kaori laying next to him.
“So he is going to be okay, we do want him to remain here for another day or two.” The doctor said to you, smiling.
“Okay but what’s wrong with him.”
“Well he hasn’t been eating or drinking or sleeping enough, especially for a boy experiencing his growth spurt. Pair that with how much he has been using his quirk in class and you have a pretty bad situation.” She said as if it was nothing to worry about.
“Uhhh okay so we just need to make sure he is eating and drinking right?” You said pacing a little.
“Yeah and I would figure out what made him stop. Your daughter was very adamant about it not being abuse just that there was something going on at home and he is trying to deal with it.” The doctor said as you froze thinking you did this to him.
“Just a divorce…” you trailed off.
“Yeah that will do it but I don’t need to know about it. It's your business just make sure to talk to him so you don’t end up back here.” She said before leaving, you let out a few tears before heading into the room. Noticing you, Kaori got up and was hugging you tighter than she ever had.
“Did you know he wasn’t taking care of himself?” You asked, stroking her hair. She shook her head no.
“I didn’t either, I didn’t know it was hitting him so hard… you know you can ask me about anything, tell me anything… me and your dad will always be in your corner.” You said lifting her chin so you gazed into her eyes.
“But you're both not in our corner anymore. You guys are in to different corners and it’s hard to keep up with two different houses and two different.. well everything’s.” She said looking away from you.
“I never meant to you guys to feel like this, I just…” You trailed off but before you could finish Hiroyuki tossed and turned in his bed.
“Yuki sweetie, can you hear me?” You said as you rushed to his side.
“Mmm.” He said, he’s eyes still shut in pain.
“Oh baby, i'm so sorry I didn't notice you were in pain. It’s never gonna happen again, okay? Do you need something?” You said stroking his hair, he hummed before falling back to sleep. You sighed and kissed his forehead.
“So whats up with him?” Bakugou rushed into the room with the girls in his arms.
“He hasn’t been eating, or drinking, or sleeping. So when he used his quirk it drained his body and he’s here for 1 or 2 more days.” You said eyes never leaving his.
“That's impossible, he was just with me… he… didn't eat very much.” He trailed off. You hummed at him understanding how he was felling as you missed the signs too.
“Hey, girls I texted Grandma and Grandpa and they said they miss you so much. So while we take care of Yuki how about you guys go see them, yeah? Mr. Yuri is waiting to take you.” You smiled at them. You see a fire rise in Kaori but it goes out quick as Bakugou ruffles her hair.
“Okay then, be good for them and don't cause too much trouble. Mr. Yuri will pick up Kohana, Kaori please explain what's happening to her. And don't worry, we’ll see you real soon.” You said waving the girls out of the room. When they were out of sight you and Bakugou visually deflated.
“Katsuki, how does this keep happening?” You asked him
“What?”
“How do things keep getting worse, first the break up, then the kids being mad at each other, Yuki’s anger at you, and now this.” You cried out.
“The break up was bad to you?” He asked voice cracking.
“Why wouldn't it be, Katsuki I know you don't love me anymore but I…” You trailed off
“Would you just spit it out dumbass! This is why we didn't work out because you never say shit. You just bottle it up and never lean on me or depend on me the way I do to you. You used to say “we're a team” all the time but in the last 2 years you haven't said it once. It was you who fell out of love with me so don't pretend like it was so hard for you.” He yelled at you.
“This is why we don't talk Katsuki, all you wanna do is yell and project all the feelings you bottle up from working so goddamn much. Of course it was hard on me and you would know why if you could drop your ego and talk to me like you can tolerate being around me or love me!” You yelled back at him but before the argument could turn into a big screaming match your sons voice rang out.
“Would you two just stop it…” He said weakly.
“Yuki, im sorry we shouldn't have been yelling even if you were asleep.” Bakugou said caressing his check. At the touch Hiroyuki let out the tears he’s been holding in.
“Its us isn't it?” He paused to look at you. “Me and my sisters… You had Kaori and me pretty young and you didn't really get to be young. You had all of us before you really got to live together just the two of you.. And Uncle Izuku and Auntie Urakara's relationship is doing fine even though they started to date around the same time as you, difference is they just started having kids like 4 years ago… Im 12 and Kaori is 13. So its us isnt?…” He said curling into himself.
“Kid, I'm not gonna lie to you, having you and Kaori at the ages we did was a nightmare. We were barely out of school, we lived with my parents for a while cause we didn't have jobs or a place of our own and even we did get one it was a shitty hole in the wall place but even at the young age of 19 we pulled our shit together and made it work so when you came a year later we were a lot more prepared. Yes we did miss out on a lot of things people our age did but we had you and Kaori and that was so much better than party’s and hangovers. Then we decided to have Kohana, Yoko, and Saiyuri and you all make us so happy. You all have nothing, not a damn thing to do with what's going on between me and y/n. If we ever made you feel like you did we didn't mean to. We love you so much and I am so sorry if we ever made it seem like it was your fault.” Bakugou said, eyes boring into Hiroyuki’s. Hiroyuki looked at you and you nodded to show you agreed with Bakugou.
“Don't ever forget how much we love you, okay? Now you should eat, we’ll get you anything you want.” You said wiping your tears with a smile.
“If it's not too much trouble, I want you and dad’s spicy pork curry and you guys should take some to the girls.” He said drowsily.
“But in order to make that we both would have to leave since it's a meal we make together… we couldn't leave you here alone.” You said mostly to yourself before any could say anything else a new voice was heard entering the room.
“You guys go talk and make him some food, ill stay with him. I didn't watch you guys terribly flirt and kiss everywhere just for it to end over some miscommunications.” Aizawa said as he took the seat next to Hiroyuki. Aizawa had remained close with a lot of students from 1A, becoming like a second dad but he had been extra close with you and Bakugou. When Kaori came into the equation he was like a nanny to her and it only increased when Hiroyuki was born, the two having a really strong bond so neither you or Bakugou was shocked he showed up.
“Okay, then old man. Watch my kid.” Bakugou said, grabbing your hand and pulling you away. You almost forgot what his calloused hand felt like. He drug you to his car and the car ride was mostly silent. The talking began when you began to cook in the house you used to share.
“Do you love me?” You asked as you cut pork
“Yes, I love you. I never stopped, I am in love with you y/n. Today I love you more than yesterday but less than tomorrow.” He said slicing onions.
“Then why did you say that, say that you didn't love me.”
“Because I could see it, you don't look at me the same. We don't talk the way we used to. I don't want to string you along and make you hate being with me, because I love you more than life itself. And I was scared that one day you would wake up and you wouldn't need me and realize how easy it would be to leave me. That it would be my fault we ended because I was so focused on me I didn't see your pain. Scared that I would wake up and gaze into your eyes and find no love or joy in them. So I decided to let you go… I was thinking we just needed a break but you suggested a divorce and I agreed because I would do anything to make sure you keep that beautiful smile of yours. Even if you weren't smiling at me anymore… do you..” He said calmly, growing more emotional with each word.
“Yea, I never ever stopped. I was just tired, I am tired. But I want nothing more than for us to work… we can get through this, can't we?” You asked cautiously.
“Of course we can, we are Bakugous, we can do whatever the hell we want. And it will be different this time, we’ll talk about things and communicate better, I swear. I aint seeing a shrink though.” He said flicking water at you to make his last point more effective.
“Yes we are.” You giggled at him.
“No we aren't, you shitty dumbass. We don't need help, I can talk about my feelings without some dumb wanna be life coach.” He yelled as he began to wash the rice.
“Well we don't have to but I guess that means Zuku and Urakara have a better relationship than us since they go to counseling…” you trailed off with a shrug.
“Oh fuck you!” He roared at you, you giggled knowing he would now go. This was the most normal you felt in months, the happiest for sure. Just maybe things would be okay, and who were you kidding you could never fall out of love with the spiky haired explosion boy no matter what he did. It was toxic in a way but you could unpack that in the therapy sessions you were gonna force him to attend.

Pretty lies (ugly truths)
A/N: This was something I wrote as soon as I heard Clean also that was 2019 and @peterspideysstuff made me do it smh. I’m proud of it so don’t let this flop 🙂
WC: 3.3k+
Warnings: Please read these before going ahead- mentions of CSA (Skip Wescott), brief description of dissociation.
Pairing: Peter Parker x Stark!Reader
Masterlist || Taglist
It was the little things that you noticed in Peter. He was your closest friend ever, the best person to have ever entered your life next to Tony Stark, the man who had adopted you the moment he laid his eyes on you.
You always noticed when it came to Peter, the way he jumped around when he was in a happy mood, or when he scored a hundred in chemistry and he would flail his hands in the air and hug you as tightly as he could without crushing your bones with his super strength. You had met him when you were both eight- he had come with his uncle Ben to tour Stark Industries, and you both had snuck out to eat some pizza while the adults talked.
You would never forget that day, because it was the day the two of you became inseparable. He would often visit you since then, in Pepper’s penthouse, and you always cherished those visits. He shared everything in his life with you, he was an open book to you, a dog eared page that you could open with a flick of your fingers.
Coming back from the dead post blip was the final straw. No one could separate you two, and when May and Peter had finally agreed to live in the Lake House (only during the weekends though, since it was far from his school), it was the life of a party for You.
"And you three, don't wreck the house and if I found out that the kitchen is on fire-" Pepper said, fixing Peter's shirt and Morgan's hair at the same time, giving you a stern look.
May was out and it was only the three of you- You, Morgan and Peter, while Tony and Pepper went out for a vacation for the weekend.
They had trusted you to babysit Morgan, well You more than Peter.
“We will be fine Pep! Don’t worry I won’t let them burn down the kitchen, or let Gerald eat the goji berries. Now shoo!” You snickered, pushing Pepper with your hands on her shoulder, before she gave you one more look over her shoulder.
“Oh and if you need anything, Kyle will be here soon, you can ask him anything okay?” She said, making you stop in your tracks.
“Kyle? Who’s that?” Peter asked, shuffling to adjust Morgan, who was perched on his shoulder with her head buried in his neck, her soft snores barely audible.
“He’s Morgan’s babysitter, we can trust him honey, he’s been babysitting her since she was one.” Pepper said calmly, her eyes stiff as she wearily looked at Peter, her eyes flitting to You for a moment. They had all been weary of introducing you to change when you first came back, afraid what the change around you would cause you to break further. It ultimately lead to a heart to heart with Doctor Tumnus and You and Peter, one breakdown from each of you, and lots of cuddles.
“I thought he was in college?” You smiled, lifting your brows.
“You know about him?” He asked, his voice small. You didn’t answer him, choosing to nod your head instead.
Looking at Peter, you felt him stiffen, his shoulders tensing like the way they would whenever he was stressed or overthinking, his grip on Morgan tightening as if to protect her from whatever danger was about to come their way. Your heart sped at his look of frustration, his lip forming a thin line as he pursed them, your own confusion growing.
“Wh-why do we need him? I mean, Y/n/n and I can look after each other right?” He gulped, not meeting Pepper’s or your eyes. Morgan took that moment to wake up sniffing under her breath as she lifted her small head from his shoulder.
“Mommy is Kyle coming over?” She asked innocently, not noticing Peter as he gulped. You gripped his biceps, silently asking why he was acting the way he was.
Peter had always been shy when it came to strangers, choosing to stay in the circle of his own people. Heck he had taken almost months to warm up to you.
“Yes honey, he will be here soon, now, be nice for Peter and Y/N okay?” She cooed, kissing Morgan’s forehead and smiling at the little girl, grimacing as your dad honked from behind, shouting to make it fast.
“Okay mommy, have fun!” Morgan smiled sleepily, going back to her position on Peter’s neck, lifting her thumb to suck on. Holding her small hand, Peter softly brought it down to stop her from sucking on her finger. You smiled at how gentle he was with her, momentarily forgetting his ambiguous behavior at the mention of Morgan’s babysitter.
“So, wanna wreck the house?” You joked in an effort to dissipate the growing tension, watching the retreating figure of Pepper as she waved from the car. You waved back, smiling as you leant against the door jamb.
“Sure.” He said absentmindedly, holding his palm against Morgan’s head, tucking her in more firmly.
“Are you okay Pete?” You asked, scrunching your brows when he clenched his teeth, looking at you with seething eyes. You understood at that moment, why criminals feared him as your own heart clenched. He may be a doe eyed shy boy, but he could be angry when he wanted to.
“Can everyone stop fucking asking me that!?” He bellowed, looking at Morgan to make sure she hadn’t woken up. Walking to her bedroom, he tucked her in before keeping the door to her bedroom ajar, turning towards you,
“What’s crawled and died up your ass Parker?” You clenched, folding your hands as if in defence. You were getting worried, his behavior was not him. He was a naturally cheerful and chatty person, talking the ears off of the person who happened to be in his vicinity, now he was just, closed off.
“It’s nothing okay, it’s- it’s nothing. None of your business.” He said, walking away, leaving you with your jaw dropped and hands up in the air.
“Damn straight it’s my business! Why have you been acting weird ever since Pepper mentioned Morgan’s babysitter?” You snarled, shoulders sagging when you saw him tense up once more.
“Just, leave it alright?” He said, cursing your observation and not meeting your eyes before he turned the kitchen lights off, strutting to his bedroom. It was late at night and Pepper had wanted to have an early start, so they had decided to lodge at the tower before leaving for the trip.
“Alright, you don’t wanna talk am I right? See if I care next time!” You shouted pettily, huffing and moving to your bedroom, shuffling inside the covers, tears of frustration brimming your eyes as you tried to wash away the look Peter had given you from your brain.
***
Sleep didn’t come easy to Peter.
It wasn’t anything new for him, Ben had always said that his mind was like a whirlpool of thoughts- they churned at a very high speed and impared him from sleeping. But his insomnia had been causing problems as of late. Ever since he was little and his parents died, he had been prone to nightmares. Back then, Uncle Ben and Aunt May would do everything in their power to soothe him each time he had a bad dream.
Back then, when he was just a little boy, his uncle and aunt would snuggle up on either side of him and hold him until he fell asleep. Ben would sing with his gruff, slightly out of pitch but soothing voice, while aunt May would scratch the back of his ears, a sweet spot. It was the little gestures that reminded him of his childhood. The good parts of his childhood.
He tossed around in the bed, rolling his eyes to do a once over of his bedroom- the one that Pepper had designed when he had- when he had blipped along with You and three and a half million others. The word felt foreign on his tongue- why was such a catastrophic event named something as insignificant and fickle as “the blip”?
Scrunching his eyes shut, he groaned, tossing and turning around his bed. Heaving a frustrated sigh, he pulled at the bedsheets, kicking the covers off his feet as if he were five.
Peter was raised a city boy, living in the heart of New York, where nothing was really silent. Even before he gained his spidey powers, New York was never silent for him- the nightly noises of sirens and noisy neighbours was a constant in his life, so the sudden silence of living in the woods- where the only source of noise was Morgan and Tony in the morning and crickets chirping in the night was alarming.
Finally giving up, he decided to heave himself off the bed, shuffling his foot until he found the bunny slippers you had given him as a gag gift. Hovering his hands on the doorknob, he twisted it as slightly as he could, wincing when he heard the screeching noise of it twisting, as if it wanted to be as loud as it could just to piss him off.
Walking into the kitchen, he looked at the digital clock on his way, the red numbers glaring that it was well past three am into his retinas.
The room was dark, only illuminated by the small LED light in the garden. Picking up a glass, he looked over his shoulder to see if he had woken You or Morgan. Sighing when he heard your and Morgan’s minuscule snores (perks of having enhanced hearing), he opened the tap, filling the water in the glass before chugging it all up in one go.
“Fuck.” He muttered, slamming the glass down and wished the helpless feeling would go away. Ever since he heard the words come out of Pepper’s mouth, he couldn't think straight, all his thoughts strayed to him. He who had hurt Peter, he who was out of his life.
But who was he kidding? It was as if the universe was laughing at him by tossing another fuckery at his face, the ghost of his past lingering in his brain enough to cover the memories in a thin sheen of dust.
"Pete?" Your voice startled him, making him nearly drop the glass in his hand had it not been for his reflexes, "is that you?"
Your voice was heavy with sleep, fatigue evident as you appeared in his line of sight. Looking at him with squinting eyes as you flicked the light switch on.
"Yeah, just uh… thirsty. Wanted water."
“You have a water bottle on your bedside.”
He stayed silent, clenching his jaw as he looked at you. Biting his lips, he suppressed a chuckle as you failed to suppress a yawn, scrunching your eyes. You had a bad case of bed head, the strands of your hair all over your face. You were wearing your infamous strawberry pajamas, the shirt hanging off your shoulders. His eyes softened, you looked so young, all he wanted to do was smother you in a blanket and protect you from everything.
His gut twisted at the thought of protecting. He was supposed to be protecting Peter too.
“I can hear you thinking.” You said, your hands folded under your chest.
“So this Kyle guy, you know him?”
“Peter, you haven’t even met him, why do you hate him so much?” You sighed, rolling your eyes and wrapping your hands around his waist, laying your head against his shoulder blades.
“I- I don’t hate him! I just want to make sure-”
“Make sure what Peter?” You asked softly.
He gasped as memories flashed in front of him- that night when He had introduced himself to little Peter when He had come to babysit him.
Eight year old Peter had just wanted a friend. And Skip Wescott was a friend to him. He was cool and played games with Peter, showed him cool new science tricks and watched cartoons.
Aunt May and Uncle Ben were not home, they were late for work. Skip had been sending him small smiles the whole time.
“You want to see the big boy stuff now Einstein? I know you’re old enough.” Skip said, shifting uncomfortably close to Peter.
Peter’s smile fell off as he saw Skip’s eyes flash dangerously. And at that moment, he didn’t want Skip. He didn’t want to be friends with him any more and he wanted Aunt May.
“Nothing, go back to sleep.” He said, a lump forming in his throat, clutching the glass hard enough for cracks to appear on it. You left him be that night.
***
He didn’t notice when he fell asleep after that, the fear creeping up his spine in spite of knowing that Skip won’t be able to hurt him anymore- he was in jail, Ben had made sure of it. Yet he kept flashing back to his lowest points, when he had cried so loud, yet no one heard a thing.
In the end, he had won the case, yet the scars had remained fresh. His win felt futile, a defeat in spite of winning.
The smell of blueberry waffles invaded his senses first, his eyelids cracking open against the force of sleep. Scrunching his eyes, he let the world slowly come into motion, the walls coming into focus one by one.
He was startled into complete wakefulness by the sudden flurry of mass that had jumped on him, panic settling before noticing that it was just Morgan, her excited rambling bringing him back.
“H-hey Momo! You seem excited huh? Good morning to you too.” He laughed, inhaling as she jumped on his stomach.
“Petey you have to brush your teeth! Come down fast because I have a surprise for you.” She giggled, snuggling into his chest and getting up just as fast, pulling him with her tiny hand.
“I see you have a handy alarm clock.” You said from the doorway, smirking when you saw him
“A very cute alarm clock.” Peter cooed, pinching Morgan’s cheeks and leaving a big sloppy kiss on her cheek, making the little girl giggle, “Wait if you’re both here then who’s in the kitchen? Did May come back? Or is it Happy?”
“No May will be in Cali for a little longer, Happy visited her there so they’re having an impromptu vacation.” You smirked, knowing how much it irked Peter whenever you told him about May and Happy’s escapades. He rolled his eyes, scrunching his nose in disgust, just as you had expected him to.
“I didn’t need to know that, but whatever, who is it though?”
“Kyle’s here! He’s cooking waffles cause I told him Petey likes them very much! It was supposed to be a surprise but Y/n/n ruined it.” The little girl pouted, glaring at you with her adorable brown eyes. She looked exactly like Tony when she did that.
He felt a pang in his chest, an unearthed nervousness taking residence as he felt his stomach drop. He pulled Morgan closer, feeling your eyes on him as you tried to gauge his expression.
“Yeah.” You said simply, urging Morgan to come to you as he got up from the bed.
Walking downstairs after cleaning up, he stiffly sat on the table, watching as a short but lean Blond man cooked waffles.
“Hey kiddo! You must be Peter, Morgan and Y/N talk about you all the time!” The guy- Kyle probably, said chirpily. Peter clenched his fists under the table, noticing the look you were giving him.
“Hi.” He said shyly, ducking his head so he won’t have to see him.
“Well they told me you’re shy too.” He said, a smile evident in his voice.
“Y-Yeah.”
“Aw Pete don’t be rude! At least look at his face.” You joked, hitting him slightly in the ribs.
“Sorry I just, that smells delicious.” He smiled, finally looking up to blue eyes staring at him. He shifted nervously, sitting up straight.
“Thank you.”
He felt uneasy under his gaze, bringing the glass of water to his lips to avoid making eye contact.
“How long is he gonna stay here?” Peter whispered to you, avoiding to look inside the kitchen where he was cooking lunch with Morgan- the girl was perched on the countertop with her legs dangling and swinging.
You and Peter had retreated to the AV room after breakfast, opting to watch a movie instead of doing homework. Well it was You who had dragged Peter, because you knew he had already done it before coming.
“He’ll make dinner and go, again, why?” You asked him, fisting some popcorn and throwing them in your mouth.
“It’s nothing.”
You let it go again.
Dinner was an awkward affair. He couldn’t help but let his gaze linger onto him, how he interacted with Morgan. She seemed genuinely happy, jumping around the house till she was tired, enjoying as he lifted her up and played airplane with her.
He really didn’t want to think about it, but his spidey sense kept buzzing a headache in the bottom of his skull. He tried to distract himself, opening his chemistry text book to read ahead of class, but the worlds kept floating around as he saw you and Morgan laugh at something Kyle had said.
“Come on Einstein! It won’t hurt for you to keep that textbook and play with us eh?” Kyle said, winking at him as Morgan laughed, making grabby hands at him so he would come.
You want to see the big boy stuff now Einstein?
No, this wasn’t Skip. This was Kyle, Morgan’s babysitter.
He knew the comment was noncommittal, but he felt his heart race, the world zooming in and out of focus as it got harder to breathe, his book swimming in his hands. He felt floaty, the tingling in his hands intensifying as he felt someone’s hands on his back, dizzily startling him into reality.
“Hey, hey take a breath kid, it’s alright. Deep breaths.” A soothing voice said, cold sweat breaking as he dropped his textbooks. Tears ran down his face without meaning to as he pursed his lips. Instead of saying anything, he sat up and ran into his room.
He could hear you running after him, Kyle asking “Is he okay” as you reassured him. Tears were running freely now as he slammed the door, flopping on the bed and burying himself in the pillows, wishing that the bed would swallow him whole.
He didn’t know why he was reacting the way he did, Kyle was a good person, he saw the way he interacted with Morgan. He was gentle and loving, then why is it that he kept seeing him.
He heard the door creek, your footsteps echoing in his ears, drums rattling against his brain.
“Are you ready to talk now?” You asked softly, wafting your hands through his hair as he felt the bed dip with your weight.
“I had a babysitter, when I was eight. His name was Skip.” He croaked, breathing through his nose. He felt you stiffen as you seemed to connect the dots. Nudging him to move so you could insert yourself in the space.
“Did he hurt you Pete?” You whispered, rubbing his back.
“He did bad things to me, I just, I don’t want anyone to go through it again. Please. He may be in jail but- but sometimes I still feel like he’s here and I hate how I feel! I want him gone. I just want him gone and I want the memories to be erased.”
You remained silent, rubbing his back through his sweatshirt, unbidding tears appearing in your eyes. Someone had hurt Peter. You felt anger boiling inside you, swirling in a dangerous tornado at the thought of someone hurting the best person in your life,
You promised yourself that day that You would protect him at all costs. You couldn't do it in the past, but you would in the future.
“I’m glad you told me about this Pete.” You said, clenching your teeth as he met your eyes.

A simple statement was all that it took for him to become another rising scandal. I hate periods, somehow captured by a sensitive microphone at the press event. All downhill from there, to the amusement of some and to the shock and horror of others. Atsumu Miya was quickly labelled as a misogynist, from that simple sentence.
“Yeah, I’ve been laughing my ass off, dumbass. What else am I supposed to do?” Atsumu whines at the lack of sympathy from his brother, waving Kiyoomi off as the head popped in. It was his conversation with his brother to try and figure out how the hell he was supposed to clear the air without anything changing about him, but they hadn’t come up with any good ideas. While it boosted his confidence to not be viewed in any other light, it also tore him down a bit. This was the one story getting coverage, the one that would remind him of how he was born. The first night had already been rough, and he wanted this over with. “If I say I’m a misogynist, how bad would that be?” “Damn awful, considering how much of a mama’s boy you are.” The two shared a laugh, with Atsumu ignoring the quiet whispers from Osamu’s side of the phone. Some secret that would be kept, but hopefully not for long. “Do I have to come out?”
“No.” Osamu was firm with this one, sighing and standing up to pace around his own place. His eyes fell on the clock, trying to find any way possible to reassure his brother. “Your doctors know and Sakusa knows, right? And whoever else needs to? That should be enough. What about your teammates?” The silence on the other end told him the other story, the insult narrowly being held back. “Maybe drop some hints, see what happens. Gotta go. Love you, Tsumu, don’t fuck this up. And take care of yourself.”
It added some warmth to his chest to hear his brother speak like that, and the takeout bags in Kiyoomi’s hands added to that feeling. Loved all around for who he was now, not who he used to be and not who he would be in the future. Tomorrow at practice would be a better day, he was certain of it.
Two days post-scandal, and it was still bad. Meian only gave a disapproving shake of his head, Kiyoomi was constantly hiding back giggles and knowing smiles, and Atsumu had to deal with all the different moods in one building. And hold back his complaints that he would easily unload into Sakusa’s ears, but he couldn’t get more heat for it now. But, he had hope that practice would help them forget, and they would bond and this would get buried.
“Why don’t you like periods, Atsumu? There’s nothing bad about them.” Bokuto spoke in their stretch circle, despite the warning from Meian to behave and count like they should. His hair flopped as he reached towards his toes, his eyes peeking out between strands. “You can still have sex during their periods, lots of ladies enjoy that.”
“Some find it gross though.” Hinata added, the two of them oblivious to the glares from Meian and the snickers that threatened to leave Kiyoomi’s mouth. “You know, this one time when I was in Brazil, I found this woman who was an absolute demon during her period. Not the angry type, but the horny type, y’know? I’m surprised I came out alive. But the vibrator probably helped. Is that your problem, Atsumu?”
Teeth clenched, Atsumu forced himself to shake his head, thankful that the painkillers from earlier would help keep everything to a minimum and the exercise would help him forget. Focus on what he could control, not the aspects of his nature that were beyond his control at the moment. Reactions, what he could tell them, and..well, that was about it. “N-no, it’s not that, nothing like that at all!” Had he even told them that he and Kiyoomi were living together? Today was going to be a heavy day.
It was Sakusa’s booming laughter that interrupted their odd conversation, the spiker laid out on the floor and having a laughing fit. There were words in between that hardly made sense, but there was no focus on that. The team was trying to ensure that Sakusa was still alive and sane while Atsumu had to hold his own laughter back, more than happy to join his boyfriend.
Though it might have been outing in a sense, Atsumu felt better about this version. Sakusa carrying them through a brief and no questions asked conversation to get things done. Just enough information to get them on board, and to assure everyone that Atsumu Miya was certainly not a misogynist.
“Wait, so Tsum-Tsum gets periods? Do you guys fuck while he’s on his period?” Bokuto asked, more interested in that answer than anything else. “Omi-Omi, don’t come closer, it was just a question!”
Maybe not the best reputation to have for a course of two days, but it was gone once the press team finally dealt with it. And, well, Atsumu only had more ways to admire Kiyoomi, for both the speech and the firm kiss to his lips he received when the other finally got a whack to Bokuto’s head to silence him.

Not Enough Parties
Pairing: Blaise Zabini x Reader
Pronouns: He/Him
Word Count: 1.7k
Request: “hello! Can I request a blaise x male reader for your 300 celebration? Fluff please! With the prompts “Hey sir!” “I’m so smitten with you and everyone knows it.” “
Summary: Drunk words are truly sober thoughts.
Warnings: Underage drinking?? Mentions of sex (not the reader or blaise), shit parents.
A/N: I’m so sorry that it’s so short. Ik it’s only 1.7k words but I promise it’s good! I had a lot of fun writing this so I hope you enjoy reading it.
21."I'm so smitten with you and everyone knows it."
42. “Heyy sir!”
(Y/n) was a naturally outgoing person. No matter the size of the party, big or small, you could find him on the dance floor, dancing his little heart out. Sure he wasn’t any good at it, but his energy was such a positive thing that everyone around him would encourage him. He also was popular. Not because of anything wrong nor did he have to social climb to get to the top. People loved him because of his bright and sunny deposition and his kind heart. Combine that with a handsome face and you’ve got yourself a bit of a star amongst the students of Hogwarts.
However he was a charmer. He’d use his sweet talk and smooth tongue to get himself into situations but also to climb right out of them too. He never really flirted with anyone unless the promise of getting something was there as well too. Or at least that’s what he thought until he met him. Blaise Zabini. At first, Blaise made him feel weak in the knees. Who didn’t feel weak in the knees around him? He was gorgeous, sculpted from perfection in every way, shape, and form. Piercing eyes that would stare right into your soul and could spot your bullshit from a mile away. Not to mention how mysterious he was. He had an aloof and stoic presence around him that drew (Y/n) in. He wanted to know more.
However, he wasn’t good at that. Although (Y/n) had a ton of friends - great ones might he add- he could never find himself able to get close to them. Sure people knew him and even things about him but people didn’t really know him for who he was. Although he was a very bright and kind person, he had a bit of sadness within himself. When you spend so much time around others, constantly speaking with them and learning about them, you start to lose who you are along the way. Who even was he anymore? Sometimes after a long night of partying he’d look into the mirror and not have an inkling of who he was looking at. Not to mention how his parents felt about him.
(Y/n) loved his parents dearly but they had a tendency to ignore who he was and try to raise him to be something else. Both his parents were very successful people both in the muggle world and the wizarding world as well. They were two of the highest paid doctors in the muggle world and that skill most certainly transferred over, leaving them among the elite. He hated having to shmooze and talk to all the rich snooty slytherin children whose heads were so far up their parents asses that it wasn’t funny. He spent most of the parties having his parents make up lies or brag about accomplishments that he had achieved so long ago. Why did they feel the need to lie? Couldn’t he as who he was now be enough. Sure his grades weren’t the highest, he had no musical skills, and his fencing was subpar but that didn’t mean they couldn’t be proud of the boy he had grown to be. But everytime he found himself sinking deeper into his thoughts at these ritzy stuffy balls, Blaise was always right there to save him. That’s why he liked Blaise. He admired how he could easily fit in with the prats but then sneak off and have a fun time celebrating at parties in the Gryffindor common room. Once again, he was at one of these dreaded events.
“Ah, Mr and Mrs.(L/n)! What a pleasure it is to see you.” The man said, bowing as he placed a hand over his chest. He side eyed (Y/n) secretly, shooting him a wink. (Y/n) bit back a smile, continuing to watch the boy interact with his ‘parents’. Blaise grabbed the woman’s gloved hand, placing a kiss on it. He rolled his eyes at her unnecessary amount of laughter.
“Blaise! How nice to see you again. To what do we owe the pleasure?” He bit back a complaint at his mother’s shrill voice. He pretended to gag some, stopping when she stepped on him in an attempt to silence him. He straightened up before clearing his throat, looking up to see the taller boy was already staring at him.
“I was wondering if I could take (Y/n) off your hands here. I know he can be quite the handful.” he chuckled out, smiling at the boy as he gave him a scowl. His parents chortled in laughter, his mother playfully hitting the boys shoulder.
“Oh, you don’t know the half of it..” she trailed off, taking a big swig of champagne as she looked away from her son. ‘Bitch’ he thought but was interrupted as his father cleared his throat loudly shooting him a knowing glance. Right, he forgot he was a skilled legilimens.
“I think it’d be best if you did take him for a bit. We’re probably boring him to death, right son?” His father asked lightheartedly. However, (Y/n) just shot him a glare before flashing him a fake smile.
“You bet you are dad!” he said in an overly happy tone. Before the situation could escalate, Blaise grabbed his arm dragging him off but not before offering them a quick “thank you”. He looked up at the taller boy, a glare still present on his face from his time around his parents.
“You are the worst.” he laughed out as they got to the garden. (Y/n) sighed, walking around some as he took in some much needed fresh air. He took in a deep breath before opening his eyes. Turning around, he grabbed the bottle of fire whiskey from Blaise, taking a few huge gulps, wincing at the burn.
“Yeah, yeah. Where’d you get this?” he started off, handing the bottle back to the boy who gladly accepted it. “Also where’s Dray? I thought for sure you’d be with him.”
“Probably off banging it out with Parkinson. Goyle gave it to me. He brought it when he came to tell me a few of the other kids here are throwing a little party of their own over there.” He said, motioning a large umber hand towards the forest. The (h/c) haired boy’s eyes lit up at the mentions of a party. He took his blazer off, throwing it on the ground along with his tie as he began to walk off.
“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go! They had the right idea slipping out of this overpriced torture event.” Blaise simply chuckled at the boy as he shook his head before he took off his own blazer and tie, chasing after him so he could lead him the right way. Although (Y/n) didn’t really need his help, he had a sixth sense for sniffing out parties.
--------------------------------------------------------
An hour and way too many solo cups full of alcohol later, Blaise and (Y/n) were completely and utterly wasted. However, that didn’t stop him. (Y/n) was having the time of his life, dancing the night away. Although he usually hated hanging out with these prats any other time, he had to admit they knew how to throw a good party for a bunch of stuck up rich fucks. It was nothing compared to the Gryffindor parties back at Hogwarts but with a few more shots it very well could be. He let his eyes flicker across the outskirts of the party before they landed on a familiar pair of brown ones. Blaise had opted on sitting out since he claimed to be not much of a dancer, but that wasn’t going to stop (Y/n). He had a large drunk smile as he walked over to his equally as drunk friend.
“Heyy sir! Come dance with me!” he said, dancing to emphasize what he was saying. Blaise chuckled before nodding his head lazily. (Y/n) pouted, stumbling forward into the man’s arms. “Whaaa? Why not! Aww come on. Pleasee?” he whined out, laying his head on the male’s shoulder. Blaise was quiet for a minute before dragging him over to the dance floor. (Y/n) cheered loudly, jumping to the beat of the song as Blaise joined him. Although he wasn’t a great dancer, his friend who ‘wasn’t much of a dancer’ sure in the fuck was. He let his mouth hang open, watching as his friend moved and swerved his body expertly to the beat before shooting him a wink. (Y/n) was in shock. “You bloody liar!”
Blaise began to laugh at that, running as his shorter friend chased him. The two began to laugh together as they fell on the forest floor. It was as if everything and nothing was funny at the same time. One would say something stupid and the other would laugh along to it. “W-wanna hear something funny?” he wheezed out, staring into the boy’s (e/c) eyes. “I'm so smitten with you and everyone knows it.” he let out a loud laugh as the other boy joined him. The both began to cackle wildly. Tears of laughter spilled out of both their eyes as they continued to cackle.
“W-wanna hear something funnier? I’ve had a crush on you since 3rd year and you didn’t even notice!” he said, snorting as his laughing fit carried on. The laughter died down after a long while as they began to sober up, processing what they had both said. “How didn’t you notice? I made it obvious.” he grumbled, looking up at the boy. Blaise’s eyes widened, searching for any sign of lying in the boy’s words.
“I...don’t know honestly. I mean, you’re always flirting with people so I assumed you were just joking as usual. You didn’t think to just, I don’t know, tell me like a normal person?” he teased, smiling as the boy punched his shoulder.
“Blaise Zabini, do you understand how scary you are?! What do you mean why didn’t I tell you? Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked, scooting closer to him. Their knees touched as they set across from one another. Blaise shrugged before scooting his face closer to his.
“Doesn’t matter now. Since you’re mine, I can do this.” Before the boy could speak, he leaned forward kissing him. The kiss was soft and gentle compared to the bass of the music that blared in the distance. The (y/h/h) boy kissed back, climbing into the boy’s lap which prompted him to wrap his arms around him securely.
The old saying was true, drunk confessions are just sober thoughts.

Villian-Sicle | Part 4
This ones a little short, as well as being a very good example as to why I don’t write much action. I hope you guys like! (I think I might need to change this story’s title soon, I still have a ton of ideas to write about.)
CW//Superhero whump, villain whumpee, hypothermia, hospital setting, explosions, pulling an IV, blood (a lot of it), restraints, broken glass

It was hard to tell which came first-- the horrid screech from the heart monitor, or the snap.
Though, Leader was quite certain that, before both of those events, had come a few, blissful seconds of silence. Tense silence, certainly, but silence. A period of silence in which their eyes were locked on those of Villain, and those of Villain on them. The two had had quite the dumbfounded look about them-- two deer mutually looking into the headlights.
Villain was the first to snap out of it. That was when everything else had come.
The sound from the heart monitor hadn’t been loud, in an objective sense, but to the silent room. It had sounded like a gong. The steady, shallow peaks on the screen turned rapidly to jagged spikes, so much so that Leader felt that they could practically hear Villain’s heartbeat from their chest.
The snap had come a moment later.
As soon as Villain had been transferred to the hospital room, Leader had insisted, with all the foot stamping and sternness they could muster, that they be restrained. The doctors had finally relented, securing Villain’s limbs to the bed with fabric restraints, and using a sort of seatbelt-like webbing to secure their head.
The snap had come from the latter of the two restraint methods. With a sharp jerk upwards, Villain raised their head, breaking the strap in what must of been a panicked effort, fueled by adrenaline.
In an instant, their dumbfounded expression was replaced with one of utter, primordial terror. The look of a deer that had convinced itself to fight back against the car speeding towards it.
“Wh- What the hell did you do to me?!”
The words came from a broken voice, as if it was trying to scream, but couldn’t muster the volume.
Leader looked to Medic. Medic looked to Leader. Head Doctor looked terrified.
“You need to calm down.” Leader spoke, keeping their voice as level as they were able. The words came out almost as a growl.
Villain shook. Their trembling gaze moved down to their chest, to the flowing tubes of scarlet.
“Blood...” That came out more as a whisper, like they were talking to themself.
“We’re trying to help your sorry ass. Lay back down!”
Villain’s eyes narrowed, their fear filtering through a sieve, only allowing their fury to pass through its grate.
They didn’t say anything. They didn’t have to.
The screen of the heart monitor exploded outwards, sparks and wires bleeding from its body. A rain of glass shards sprayed outwards-- a rain which Head Doctor only narrowly avoided by diving to the floor.
Leader gulped. Dammit, dammit. Technology powers, right.
Around their head, Villain’s matted hair flowed like an inferno. With thin, pale wrists, they yanked at the fabric restraints holding their limbs down. Rug burn marks scraped themselves into Villain’s skin, but to no avail as of yet.
“Go!” Leader turned, glare momentarily turning from Villain to focus on head Doctor. “Get out of here!”
“Y-”
“Who here has superpowers? We’ll handle it. And lock the door behind you!”
They nodded and, still trembling nearly as much as Villain, the doctor was off like a shot.
Leader turned back to Villain.
“You’re just hurting yourself.” Their tone was level, but their volume was ear-piercing. “Stand the fuck down!”
Leader stood near the door, maybe two paces from it, with Medic on the other side of the room, nearest to the now-destroyed heart monitor. With Villain’s attention so surely fixed on Leader, Medic took their chance.
Fists pounded on the door from the outside.
Medic dove to the bedside, forcing down Villain’s shoulders with their hands. Leader could only watch as Villain’s maw snapped down around their assailant’s neck.
The wound wasn’t very deep-- Villain had barely even found purchase-- but the sight of liquid scarlet trickling down their cheek was enough to make Leader feel sick.
Medic fell back with a scream, narrowly avoiding hitting their head on the tiles. For a few breathless moments, all three combatants gasped for air, exhaustion already taking over.
Voices screamed from outside. Leader tuned them out.
“You are never going to do that again. Got it?” Medic growled, struggling to their feet. Their wound had already stopped bleeding, but it was clearly visibly-- a messy gash in flesh.
“How about you suck my ass instead?” Villain snapped back. With one last, determined yank, the restraint around one of their wrists came loose-- not breaking, but somehow having come undone from the bed frame itself.
Leader knew what was going to happen next-- they just weren’t sure if they wanted to watch or not. In the end, they had been unable to look away in time.
With their now-free hand, Villain grasped the catheter in their chest, pulling it from their flesh in a grotesque flash of flying scarlet. The clear tube in their hand dribbled its contents onto their hospital gown. With a look of disgust, they threw it to the side, leaving the blood to puddle on the floor.
Leader gritted their teeth. Villain grinned.
The hemodialysis machine was the next thing to go-- exploding in a practical fireball of wires, sparks, metal, and gore. A piece of machine sailed past Leader’s face, narrowly missing. Another monitor exploded after that one, then the intercom system, until the hospital room was under assault by wild sparks and metal.
Medic dropped to the floor, covering their head with their hands. That proved to be a mistake a moment later, when they were forced to roll out of the way of a flying metal shard.
“Medic!” Leader shouted, though they were somewhat preoccupied by dodging a piece of what had used to be the room’s AC.
“Fuck!” Medic’s voice came. “We need to sede-”
The last crash was the loudest, somehow, as the sterile lights overhead were turned into a hail of projectile glass. Leader swore as a piece broke itself on the back of their head.
They thought to have fallen unconscious, for a moment, when the onslaught halted. Sparks flew from the remnants of the overhead lights, wires hanging almost too calmly. Medic took the opportunity to scramble back to their feet.
“Leader?” Their voice came from the noir.
“I’m here.” They replied, breathlessly. They expected a petty quip of some nature from Villain, but none was received.
The two of them stood, catching their breath, waiting. Waiting for the next explosion, the next chaotic outburst, but-
But it didn’t come.
It must’ve taken at least a minute for Leader to think to take out their phone, turning on the flashlight. They shone it on Villain, nervous, unsure of what they may find, but not optimistic.
Villain lay on the bed, flat. Unnaturally so. A feeble trail of blood stemmed from their chest, but they did not fight it. Their hair hung limply, though the rest of their body was horribly stiff.
Their eyes were wide open. That was the worst part. Their eyes. Fear wasn’t quite the right word, neither was terror. Resignation, perhaps? But even that was not quite right.
On cautious feet, Leader crept to the stiff Villain’s side. Their chest rose and fell. They blinked, but didn’t seem to register that which their gaze encapsulated.
“What the fuck?” Medic whispered.
Again, fists slammed on the outside of the door.
“What the hell is going on in there?” One shouted-- Hero. It was muffled, but their tone couldn’t possibly be missed. The door handle shook.
“I guess we should...” Medic started.
“Yeah.” Leader nodded. “Yeah. Let’s... let’s go get them.”
Why couldn’t they stop looking at their eyes?

Double Trouble
Doctor Light is your doppelganger. Cisco has some concerns.
Pairing: Reader x Cisco
When Cisco vibed the bank heist going down that day, he had no idea that he’d just seen your doppelganger. She was wearing a black visor over her face after all. It wasn’t until Barry had confronted her for the second time that she revealed herself. Barry couldn’t bring himself to harm his best friend’s girlfriend even if it wasn’t truly you. Doctor Light, as she called herself, took the opportunity to blind Barry and get away. You, of course, were completely unaware of this until you got a phone call from Cisco.
You were talking with a patron when your phone rang under the desk. Your personal cell phone that you were supposed to have on silent. Shit. You smiled apologetically to the patron who nodded and went on their way. You hurriedly answered the phone and ducked into the supply closet.
“Cisco?” you asked, surprised that he would call you at work.
“Where are you? Stay wherever you are! I’m coming to get you right now!” His tone alarmed you.
“Babe, I’m at work. What’s going on?” You heard bustling over the line and the tell tale sound of the Star Labs van starting.
“Just...get someone to cover you. I’m coming to get you.” With that he hung up the phone. Okay...
You told Marie at the front desk that you weren’t feeling well and she told you to go home. It was a slow day at the Central City Library anyway. You thanked her and waited outside for Cisco, enjoying the sunshine. When Cisco pulled up with an obnoxious screech, he jumped out of the van and ran for you.
“What are you doing outside? Are you okay?” he asked.
“I was waiting for you. I’m fine,” you answered wondering what on earth had gotten into him. He ushered you into the van without another word and jumped back into the drivers side before taking off.
After a few minutes of silence that you hoped had calmed Cisco down, you asked, “What’s going on? Cisco, you’re kind of freaking me out.”
He looked at you, then back at the road. He took your hand in his and squeezed it gently. “I’m just glad you’re safe. We’re going back to Star Labs. I’ll explain everything there.”
You sat back with a slight huff, slightly annoyed that Cisco had uprooted your day, but also glad to be with him as always. You held his hand the whole way to Star Labs.
When you arrived, you walked into the cortex to find Barry stumbling around in his suit. Cisco had been given the green light to tell you about The Flash months ago and you were a part of Team Flash ever since. Being a librarian meant you were good at research which always came in handy around Star Labs.
“Um...you okay, Barry?” you asked, reaching a hand out to steady him.
“You didn’t tell her?” Joe inquired.
“I wanted to get her here where it’s safe first,” Cisco said, still sounding stressed. “Plus, I think this is something you gotta see to believe.”
Joe nodded like that was a good idea and you scrunched your eyebrows together. What the hell was going on?
Cisco pulled up some security footage on his computer before turning back to you. You raised your eyebrows at him expectantly wishing he would tell you already.
“So...we found another breacher today. She was sent here by Zoom to kill Barry, and...she’s your doppelganger,” Cisco rambled off.
You said nothing as you tried to process what Cisco had just said. He waited a beat and then turned around and pressed play on the security footage. You stepped closer to the screen next to your boyfriend and watched as the meta broke into a bank vault and The Flash showed up behind her. You felt a strange icy sensation down your back when she took off her visor and revealed her face.
“Oh my god.”
Cisco took your hand and stroked your knuckles with his thumb. The video ended with Doctor Light blinding Barry and running away.
“Where is she now?” you asked, looking around the room.
“We don’t know,” Joe said.
Barry added, “But we’re going to find her.” Considering the fact that Barry couldn’t see, that statement wasn’t very comforting.
“So,” you turned back to Cisco, “you were freaked out before because you thought she was going to kill me like the others killed their doppelgangers.”
Cisco nodded and said, “but we’re not going to let that happen.”
You stayed at Star Labs for the rest of the day until Barry left for his date with Patty.
“Is that a good idea? He can’t see a thing,” you asked Cisco as he took both your hands in his.
“I have no idea. It’s Barry though. I’m sure he’ll pull it off,” he said then kissed you. Your back hit the wall of the cortex, and you brought your hand up to tangle in Cisco’s hair.
When you broke apart you asked a little breathlessly, “Please tell me we aren’t spending the night here.”
Cisco chuckled. “What you don’t want a repeat of that night we...”
You smacked him on the chest before he could finish that sentence. “We agreed to never discuss that again!” you exclaimed, your ears turning red. It wasn’t your fault Cisco was so sexy when he was intently working on stuff in his lab.
Cisco grinned down at you and shook his head. “No, baby, Joe set up a security detail outside our place until Doctor Light is captured. We’re good to go.” He pushed off the wall, grabbing your hand as he went. The two of you made your way home and if the elevator provided a good opportunity for more kissing well that was okay too.
The day’s events had actually exhausted you more than you realized and you fell asleep on the way home. After Cisco parked the car, he leaned over and tapped your nose with his index finger. “We’re home, babe.”
You scrunched your nose and laughed, lifting your head up and rubbing your eyes. “Okay,” you yawned.
Cisco chuckled and got out of the car, walking around to your side in time to open the door for you as you were still rummaging around to undo your seat belt and grab your bag.
“What a gentleman,” you quipped, hopping out of the car and pecking him on the lips.
“I’ll show you a gentleman,” he said, suddenly ducking down and throwing you over his shoulder, beginning to carry you up to the apartment.
“Noooo! Cisco put me down!” you squealed.
“Nope,” he popped the ‘p’ as he continued to walk with you over his shoulder, not even responding to you pinching his ass. He set you back on your feet in the elevator and grinned as you flopped your hair back in place.
“Not cool!” you exclaimed, but your feigned annoyance was ruined by the smile plastered to your face.
“What? You were clearly exhausted in the car. I was just being a gentleman,” he said smugly.
You huffed and crossed your arms over your chest. “Just for that I’m picking the movie,” you huffed.
“So, we’re watching Prisoner of Azkaban again?”
“Of course.”
After eating copious amounts of popcorn, you started to doze against Cisco’s chest right when Harry and Hermione were entering the Shrieking Shack.
“This is your favorite part,” Cisco said softly, stroking your hair.
“I know, tired...” you said, your eyes falling shut again. You were woken by a loud bang coming from the entryway. You jumped out of Cisco’s arms and off the couch in alarm, Cisco quickly following.
A woman appeared around the corner into the living room where you and Cisco were standing. “Well hello, gorgeous,” she said to you, pulling her visor off her head to reveal your face.
“Whoa,” you couldn’t help uttering.
Cisco stepped in front of you, his arm outstretched behind him to keep you there. “I’m not going to let you hurt her,” he said.
Your doppelganger laughed cruelly. “Oh, Francisco. You are so sweet on this Earth,” she drawled, “I wasn’t sure when I came here that I could harm the man who shares my husband’s face, but I’ll do my best.”
She took a stance like she was about to fire at Cisco, and you shouted, “No!” You tried to jump in front of him, but he wouldn’t let you and you were trapped by the coffee table. “I know you don’t want to hurt us,” you spoke to her, watching her hesitate. You realized by her words that she and Cisco were married on Earth 2.
“You said that you were married to Cisco on your Earth?” you said, trying keep talking. The talking seemed to slow Doctor Light down and make her hesitate. You didn’t know if time would buy you anything, but you had to try.
“If you’re married to Cisco then you know what it means to love him. You know what it’s like to see his face every day and feel so happy that this incredible person calls you his, and how the thought of something terrible happening to him rips you apart every day. You know that if you hurt him, I’m as good as dead too because you know that you can’t go on without him once he’s a part of your life, so please don’t hurt him.” You were pleading now as Doctor Light advanced.
Doctor Light seemed to be rethinking her attack on the two of you before she lifted her hands again. “You make a good point, gorgeous, but you see, if I don’t kill you and then the Flash, I don’t get to go home to my Cisco. So...goodbye,” she began to fire and Cisco tackled you to the floor, covering your body with his.
There was a streak of red light in your peripheral vision and then there was nothing but Cisco’s heart beating against your back. Cisco’s phone rang on the coffee table. He picked it up and put it on speaker. Barry’s voice trilled out of it.
“She’s in the pipeline. Are you guys okay?” You let out a relieved gasp and let your head fall limply to the floor. Cisco let out a whoosh of air and placed his hand on your hip.
“Yeah, we’re good, thanks Bar!” He spoke with Barry for a few more moments, Cisco asking about his eyes, while you lay on the floor listening to your own heart thrumming in your ears. You almost lost your life tonight. You almost lost Cisco.
Cisco hung up the phone and pulled you up into a sitting position against him. “She’s locked up, you’re okay,” he kept saying that, over and over, stroking a hand over your hair like he was trying to convince himself of that fact as well. After a long while, after you both had calmed down, Cisco asked quietly, “Did you mean all that stuff you said to her?”
You pulled back to look in his eyes. “Yes, every word.”
He leaned his forehead against yours. “Marry me,” he said in a whisper.
Your eyes sprung open, tears filling them. “What?” you asked, not sure you even heard him correctly.
“Marry me,” he repeated with more fervor.
You let out a shaky laugh, a tear trekking down your face and nodded. “Yes, yes I’ll marry you,” you said.
He pulled you into his lap and held you in the tightest hug you ever felt and you knew you were always safe with him.

Unnamed Crack Time Travel Fic. Part 3 [first] [prev]
After Salem united all four relics, the gods descended and judged Humanity to be unworthy, obliterating all. Ruby desperately activates her Semblance to avoid the blow and, as a result, becomes only one of two people remaining in Remnant. Months later, the two employ a plan to travel back through time.
Chronic!Backstabber!Syndrome!Cinder, DoneWithEverything!Ruby, transcended!Ruby, crack time travel AU. - mod lilac
p.s this thing seriously needs a name.
Everything had been a blur after Ruby laid eyes on her Mom, her Mom that had been dead for a good part of her life suddenly here in the flesh. She was so out of it that she completely missed the part where Cinder convinced her Mom and the rest of her company to go back home - and that she’d take her to Patch for a check-up with a doctor.
How Cinder knew her Mom, Ruby didn’t know. Why her Mom trusted Cinder to any degree was also something that eluded her. Nothing was right in this universe - nothing at all.
After Ruby was absolutely sure that the rest of them were out of earshot, she turned around and hissed at Cinder, “What did you do?!”
“What do you mean?” Cinder tilted her head, confused and appearing slightly hurt, “Are you okay, Ruby? I know it can be a bit confusing when you have amnesia, but trust me when I say that I have your best interests at heart.”
Ruby paused at the concerned expression on Cinder’s face before shaking her head, “No. Sorry. I’m fine.” She turned around to face the forest path leading to Patch - and missed the bright ecstatic grin on Cinder’s face as she manifested a glass knife into her hands.
Cinder lifted up the knife silently. And with a single motion, she mercilessly stabbed down at her young charge’s back. Happiness lit Cinder’s eyes as the blade encountered no resistance - but she quickly paled as she noticed that she did not draw blood but a flurry of petals instead. The girl she just attacked just turned her head with a mildly annoyed look.
And then everything went topsy-turvy to Cinder as she was buffeted away by a gale of red petals.
“Best interests at heart, my cute ass!” Ruby crowed at Cinder triumphantly, “I knew it! I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist stabbing me in the back.”
Letting out a small pout, Cinder could only dematerialize her dagger in defeat. Her best shot after two years of planning and she blew it. “I can’t help it. It’s a nice back.”
Ruby rolled her eyes at Cinder’s reply. “Does stabbing people in the back really make you that happy? Can’t you try...to like not?”
“Yes it does,” she affirmed before shrugging, “As for your other question....why mess with what works?”
“Ugh. There’s no reasoning with you,” Ruby clicked her tongue, “Also, not that I’m complaining, but why’s my mom alive? And why does she trust you so much?”
“Well, that’s because I saved her life,” Cinder responded smugly, theatrically shifting her weight on the balls and heels of her feet and not giving any more information past that.
“...And how’d you do that?” Ruby had no choice but to play along.
“Oh you know. Salem bragged about how your mom was the prototype for those talking Grimm, so I asked how long ago she’d been experimenting. Put two-and-two together and knowing where Salem would be at that time, I managed to save your mom from certain death,” Cinder smugly said, tilting her nose high.
A moment of silence fell between them.
“...Thanks,” Ruby said with a soft smile, “I mean it.”
“And then when she was all grateful and saw me having Emerald and Mercury around, I told her that I always wanted to be a godmother,” Cinder continued proudly, “And she made me your godmother. And now I’m in charge of you brats’ training.”
“Wait. Why did you want to be a godm-” Ruby paused for a moment, eyes widening in disbelief. She stared dully at Cinder. “Did you seriously save my mom just so you could stab me in the back and call it training?”
“Nooooo...” Cinder said before crumpling under Ruby’s dubious gaze, “...yeessss?”
Ruby just facepalmed at the admission and groaned in frustration. The sky reacted to her displeasure, fluffy white clouds turning into a sinister gray. The faint rumble of thunder reminded Cinder that the small twelve-year old girl in front of her was still Remnant’s goddess, even if the events that led her there hadn’t quite happened yet.
“So...” Cinder hummed as she changed the subject, “you gonna go smite Salem right now or you gonna pretend to be a harmless 12 year old kid?”
“Well I was going to run away from home and look for Salem,” Ruby admitted, “Not that I can permanently destroy her with the power I currently have but I’d get some satisfaction beating her up after all the crap she’s put me through.” She rested her hands against the back of her head, “But you know, since you did save my mom, I would like to be a normal 12 year old kid for a while.”
“What?” Cinder said in surprise, “I thought you’d be all gung-ho about saving the world as fast as possible. You know, being the hero.”
“Eh, your perspective changes when the entire world starts hunting you and your team for a promise the Queen of All Grimm would never keep. And in the end, didn’t she destroy the world?” Ruby rolled her eyes, “I’ll save the world eventually, but it’s not them I’m doing it for. Besides with me around, no one’s gonna be able to hurt my friends and family.”
“Do I count as friends and family?”
“...Did you murder anyone you weren’t supposed to?”
“I murdered my abusive stepmother and stepsisters again. Which was just as satisfying as before, might I add. And I definitely remembered that I didn’t have my Maiden Powers while I was at it too,” Cinder lifted three fingers as she recalled, “And I st-”
“That’s suspiciously specific,” Ruby squinted her eyes.
“-abbed Rhodes just to say hi. And afterwards, I pi-”
“Who the heck is Rhodes?”
“-cked up the kids and hung around Solitas and Atlas. Pretended to be a researcher for a while and stole all of Watt’s future ideas and reported them as mine.”
“How’d you do that?”
“He was pretty whiny back then about how Ironwood ignored his genius. And very vocal about his ideas and why they were so genius, so I just “beat him” to his ideas.”
“So you stabbed him in the back for something he’ll do in the future?”
“Mad about it?” Cinder rose an eyebrow.
“After what he did to Penny. Not really,” Ruby laughed, “I’m just surprised you didn’t literally stab him in the back too.”
Cinder harumphed.
“I’m not stupid. Stabbing Watts in the heart of Atlas? Even with Emerald, I won’t be able to get away. Besides... I can’t get enough of that smarmy idiot being frustrated that a woman half his age is besting him in brains.”
“Because you’re stealing his ideas.”
“Well, maybe he should’ve been smart enough to prepare for the eventuality that someone would go back in time and screw him over,” Cinder said smugly.
Ruby shook her head as she was once again reminded that she was not going to beat Cinder in shamelessness.
“Any other changes?”
“Not really. I went to Vale. Saved your mom by making Salem have the mother of all temper tantrums. And then you regained your memory by getting hit in the face by Mercury’s boot. Nothing else really.”
“Glad you didn’t change that much then,” Ruby said as she let a breath of relief, pulling out her Scroll.
“Screwing over Watts took up a lot of my time. And then saving your mother. And then screwing over Watts,” Cinder said, “And still failing to properly stab you in the back.”
Ruby blinked as she looked over her Scroll.
“...Cinder?”
“Yeah?”
Ruby held the Scroll so that Cinder could see it. A video with the headline “The Grimm vs SDC: Theories as to why the Grimm are specifically targeting the company” is seen.
“This counts as nothing else?!” Ruby deadpanned.

Memories
Pairing: Eijirou Kirishima x Reader
Genre: Angst to Fluff
Warning: None
Word Count: 1,570
Summary: Kirishima gets injured in a fight leading to amnesia
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
As you heard a small groan come from the bed beside you, you quickly leaned over with wide, concerned eyes and grabbed your Kirishima’s hand tightly.
“Eiji?” you asked, as your boyfriend slowly regained consciousness. At the site of his scarlet eyes finally opening, you couldn’t hold back the tears that were already beginning to form. “Oh thank god,” you whispered as you leaned in as close to him as you possibly could.
“W…what happened?” he asked, his voice weak as he brought his hand up to his forehead, hissing in pain. He suddenly attempted to sit up and you quickly reached out to put your hands on his shoulders to support him.
“Please don’t push yourself too much,” you begged, as he fell back into the pillow below him. “You had a really bad villain attack and now you’re at the hospital,” you explained, rubbing small circles onto the back of his hand that you were holding.
“Oh…” Kirishima stated, slightly confused but mostly tired as he pulled his hand away from yours to rub his eyes. “I don’t really remember that…” he added, lowering his hand back down and finally turning to face you.
“It’s okay, the doctor said you might forget some things, but it’ll come back, so don’t worry, okay?” you said, with a warm smile, relieved that your boyfriend seemed to be doing well.
You reached out a hand to brush away some hair that was stuck to his forehead but were surprised when he flinched away from you. You froze there with your outstretched hand for a moment before quickly pulling it back.
“Sorry, Eiji, I didn’t mean to scare you,” you apologized, smiling once more.
Kirishima, however, frowned at your words.
“Thanks…but my name is Eijirou, not Eiji,” he stated, correcting you gently. You stared at him blankly as he turned away from you and fumbled around the bed.
“Hey, you’re the nurse, right? Do you know where they put my phone? Gotta text the agency and let them know where I am.
You froze in place once more as you stared down at your boyfriend of 5 years. The man you loved more than anyone else in the world. The man who you had shared countless precious moments with.
“Eiji…it’s me,” you managed to whisper softly, pointing to yourself.
You gazed at him with growing desperation in your eyes, praying that this was a prank or that he was just confused. But when he turned to you with a blank stare, you knew that your worst fear had come true. The doctors had said he might forget things, and the thought had crossed your mind but not like this. Never like this.
“Sorry…who are you?” Kirishima asked with a sheepish look on his face.
You kept your eyes on him as you let out a small noise that was halfway between a gasp and a pained squeal as you sat back in your seat. Hurriedly gripping onto the side of the chair in an attempt to ground yourself you shook your head. You tried to calm your breathing but you couldn’t stop your heart from beating wildly in your chest.
“I…” you began, slowly, feeling your throat constrict around your words. “No, Eiji, come on. It’s me! It’s Y/N!” you plead, trying to explain yourself but failing miserably. Kirishima looked at you with growing concern which only made you feel worse – you were supposed to be helping him heal, not hurting him even more.
“I’m really sorry, but I don’t know who you are,” Kirishima responded, this time a bit more sadly. He could tell that his words were having an effect on you, but he didn’t have the heart to lie to you.
You felt your hands begin to shake and you were about to try to explain yourself one more time when the door of the room burst open.
“Ah, Mr. Kirishima, you’re finally awake,” the doctor said as she walked into the room. You pressed your lips together and sank back even farther into your seat as Kirishima’s attention was turned away from you.
“Hey doc! Thanks for patching me up, sounds like I got into a bad fight,” Kirishima said, laughing a bit and regaining his energetic, friendly demeanor. “At least that’s what they said!” he added, pointing a finger over to you.
The doctor nodded went on for a bit, explaining what had happened to Kirishima, the procedure they had to undergo for him, how long he would need to be in the hospital, and all the medications and side effects that he might be feeling. When she discussed the amnesia, she made sure to emphasize that the memory loss would most likely be temporary but that it was possible some of it could be permanent.
You felt the hole in your chest deepen at her words as you licked your dry lips and pressed your eyes closed, willing the tears away. You had to be strong for Kirishima. He had always been your rock, your boulder, and now it was time for you to help him no matter what. You only hoped that he would remember you again soon.
You tried to keep up with the doctor’s words as she went on about treatments and medications, but when she got to visitation hours, but then she chuckled slightly.
“Although that doesn’t really apply to you. That one over there hasn’t left your side in days. You’re quite the lucky man if I do say so myself,” the doctor mused, jotting down something on a clipboard before asking if the two of you had any other questions.
When she was met with silence, shaking heads and muttered ‘thank yous’ she nodded and took her leave. As soon as she was gone, Kirishima turned to you with wide eyes.
“Wait, you’ve been here the whole time? Why?” he asked, suddenly intrigued. You fumbled with the bracelet on your hand that spelled out E.K. & Y.N. before giving him a small, sad smile. Your eyes were still watering, but you were slowly getting more of a handle on the tears before they threatened to spill more.
“Because I love you,” you stated weakly. “And because we’ve been dating for years and we live together,” you added, dryly chuckling a bit. You watched as realization came over Kirishima, his eyes widening even more if possible as his mouth parted open slightly.
“Wait, we’re dating?” he asked, suddenly. “Like dating dating?”
You nodded slowly as a small flicker of hope ignited in your stomach. Was it possible the memories were already coming back?
“Wow…but you’re so pretty!” he suddenly exclaimed, catching you off guard. “Why would someone like you be with me?”
His question made you laugh genuinely even as you sniffled a bit and shook your head.
“I should be asking myself that question,” you said, chuckling a bit and resisting the urge to throw your arms tightly around your boyfriend. “I don’t think there’s a minute that goes by when I’m not grateful to have you in my life, Eiji,” you said, with a smile on your face.
Kirishima’s eyes lit up at your words as he gave you a grin.
“Oh man, now I’m angry I don’t remember everything about you!” he exclaimed, bringing a hand onto yours and resting it there for a moment. You gazed down at your hands on top of each other before looking back at your boyfriend.
“You don’t have to say yes but…is it okay if I hug you?” you asked, slowly, not wanting to put pressure on Kirishima but wanting more than anything you cling to the man you loved.
You could try to be the bigger person and you could try to be his support, but all you wanted to do right now was hold him tightly and assure yourself that he was still here. That everything was going to be okay. Kirishima’s smile didn’t waver at all as he opened up his arms.
“Yea, of course you can! We’re dating after all, right?” he exclaimed, happily.
The familiar warmth and positivity that flowed from Kirishima made you immediately fall into him. You tried to be careful to avoid any of his bandages as you wrapped your arms around him tightly, allowing a few tears to fall from your eyes.
“Y/N…” you heard Kirishima whisper in a knowing voice and you smiled through your tears as you nodded into his neck. Pulling away from the hug, you wiped your eyes away and nodded towards him with resolve.
“Okay, we’re gonna work hard together and kick amnesia’s ass!” Kirishima exclaimed, lifting up his fist with renewed energy. You nodded and laughed, despite the tears still wet on your face, and Kirishima joined your laughter as he wiped your cheeks with his fingers.
“Maybe let’s just start by looking at some old photos to bring back some memories,” you suggested, reaching for you phone.
Kirishima agreed and as you began to show him all of the pictures you had of the two of you, you watched his eyes brighten. He asked questions and every now and again would remember a specific place or event, making you cheer lightly and give him a small hug.
It would be a long road, but you were determined to either bring back the Kirishima you loved, or fall in love with the new Kirishima while trying.

The Girl Who Loved Fairy Tales
Inspired by this post by @panncakes
I haven’t written anything in years, so apologies if this is terrible. This is set in alternate universe where Jane doesn’t die and none of the characters are involved in sex trafficking.
Part 1
“Wait, you know him?”
Tan’s voice cut through Jane’s thoughts and she glanced up from her phone. “Hm?”
“Did you just say that you know the doctor?” He leaned closer to her, eyes wide and eager.
“Oh, yeah,” she said, tucking her phone back into her purse. Pued was calling her. Again. And she was ignoring him. Again. “He used to live here when we were kids. We were best friends.”
She and Tan had been holed up in the back corner of the only coffee shop in Viangpha Mork for the last twenty minutes, under the guise of “grading papers,” but so far neither of them had gotten much work done. Tan had seemed distracted since the arrived, fiddling with his pen and shuffling papers around and not saying much at all, until suddenly he’d looked up and said, “Did you hear that the hospital hired a new doctor? I saw him at The Mist last night.”
“Of course,” she said, wondering why he was bringing this up. “Bunn and I go way back. He—”
She was cut off by her phone screen lighting up, alerting her to yet another phone call from Pued. What was it? The fifth one today? Why hadn’t she blocked his number yet? She really needed to block his number.
Pushing her ex to the back of her mind and refocusing on the conversation at hand, she watched as Tan’s eyes seemed to grow brighter with excitement as she explained the childhood connection she and Bunn shared.
“No shit? You guys are friends? That’s great!”
She squinted at him suspiciously. “And why is that?”
Tan paused, considering his words. “He…kissed me. Last night at The Mist. He was absolutely wasted and he stumbled into me and…he kissed me.”
“Oh?” said Jane, raising an eyebrow. She’d always had her suspicions about Bunn’s sexuality. He’d never seemed interested in girls back in their middle and high school days, but she’d never asked him about it and then he’d moved away and they’d lost contact. “And how did you feel about that?”
“Um, have you seen him?” Tan asked. “How do you think I felt about it?”
She tilted her head, considering this. “I didn’t know you liked boys.”
Now it was his turn to raise an eyebrow. “You got a problem with that?”
“No!” she exclaimed. “No, of course not.”
Tan was a bit of an enigma. Despite the fact that they had been friends for several years now, sometimes she felt like she knew close to nothing about him. He never talked about his personal life. And then there was way he could shift from an earnest, almost innocent sweetness into someone downright intimidating and dangerous – she didn’t fully know what to make of him most of the time.
“Okay, great,” Tan said, leaning back in his seat. “So it’s settled then.”
“Huh? What’s settled?”
“You’ll introduce me to him! Officially.”
“I don’t remember saying I would do that.”
If it was possible for a person to actually make the pleading face emoji expression in real life, Tan was currently doing so.
“Jaaaaaane,” he whined. “Please. I really think he might be my soulmate.”
She looked at him in disbelief. “Your what?”
“I know that sounds crazy but hear me out. I’ve met him before. Well, not really ‘met,’ per se, but…had a run-in with. It was like eight years ago, back in college. He dropped some papers and I helped him pick them up and then he hurried off before I could introduce myself or get his name or anything and I’ve always been pissed at myself for not chasing him down. We had this connection, Jane, I swear we did. I can’t explain it, but I saw him and something…clicked. That sounds stupid, I know. But I’ve never been able to get him out of my mind. I’ll be having sex with someone and I’ll close my eyes and I’ll see his face. That has to mean something, right? A guy I said three words to years ago having that much of an impact on me? It has to mean something.”
Jane stared at him, completely caught off guard. He’d never opened up to her about something so personal before.
He buried his face in his hands and groaned. “God, why am I even telling you all this? You probably think I’m crazy.”
She reached out, taking one of his hands in her own and pulling it away from his face. “I don’t think you’re crazy,” she said, though that wasn’t exactly true. She quickly racked her brain for something positive to say about the situation. “I think…I think you have good taste. Bunn is the best person I know. I’m not surprised someone would spend eight years pining for him.”
Tan smiled slightly at that. “He’s really handsome,” he murmured.
Jane shook her head in disbelief. She had never seen him like this. “Well, I assume he’ll be at the party tomorrow night. I can introduce you there.”
“The party?”
“The hospital director’s birthday party! Tan, don’t tell me you forgot. You promised you’d be my date.
“Oh…right…”
He had definitely forgotten.
“Don’t even try to back out. You brother is going to be there. And my sister. I cannot face them alone, Tan. I really can’t.”
If there was one memory Jane wished she could erase from her mind forever, it was the sight of Pued and Rungtiva, together in bed. Even now, thinking about it, she felt sick to her stomach. But she couldn’t stop replaying the events in her head. Finishing up work early and deciding to go to Pued’s place to surprise him. Walking in on them. Letting out a shocked scream. Watching them spring apart. The look on Rung’s face, slightly smug, as she dressed and slipped out the door without a word to Jane. Pued’s tears and frantic apologies. “Jane, I’m sorry. I can explain. Please. Just listen to me. I’m so sorry. I love you. Please don’t leave.”
But she had left.
She sent him a text later. “We’re done,” was all it said. He hadn’t stopped calling her and texting her since. She really needed to block his number. Why couldn’t she bring herself to block his number?
Deep down, she knew why. Because he was the boy she’d loved for nearly her entire life. Her childhood friend who had finally turned into something more a year ago. She had truly believed she would spend the rest of her life with him, had truly believed he loved her and only her. But he had betrayed her. Tan thought that Bunn was his soulmate? What the hell did that mean anyway? Soulmate? Pued was her soulmate and he’d fucked her sister. It seemed to her that the whole concept was overrated and meaningless.
Wow. So there it was. She, Janejira Sookyod, the girl who loved fairy tales, the girl who cried watching cheesy rom-coms, the girl whose favorite holiday was Valentine’s Day, had become cynical and jaded.
“I’ll be there,” Tan said, pulling her from her thoughts. He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. “And I’ll kick Pued’s ass if he comes anywhere near you.”
**
Tan had stayed true to his word on that one. And unfortunately, he had to walk away from a conversation with Bunn to do so.
“You shouldn’t have done that, Tan,” she said quietly, as he drove her home. “You should have kept talking to Bunn. I can handle Pued on my own.”
Tan stared straight ahead, jaw clenched, hands gripping the steering wheel a little too tightly. “He hit you, Jane. You think I was just going to stand by and let him treat you like that?”
“I said some hurtful things to him,” she muttered.
Tan turned his head, the disbelief evident in his eyes. “He slept with your sister. Of course you said some hurtful things to him. Anyone would. That doesn’t excuse him putting his hands on you like that. Are you seriously defending him?”
“No, no, I just…” She trailed off, her head spinning. All she wanted was to change out of this dress into her comfiest pajamas, burrow under the covers of her bed, and stay there the rest of the weekend. “I just never thought he’d do something like that.”
“I’m really sorry this happened to you, Jane,” Tan said softly, seeming to recognize that she wasn’t in the mood to say anything else on the matter.
They drove the rest of the way home in silence.
**
Over the next week, Jane did her best to avoid thinking about Pued at all costs. Luckily, his attempts to contact her had stopped, besides one text he’d sent her the morning after the party that simply said “sorry.”
Sorry.
One word.
As if one word could possibly be enough to make up for what he had done.
She shook her head, as if she could shake the thought of him right out of her mind. This wasn’t what she needed to be focusing on right now. She was heading to the hospital to have lunch with Bunn and she was taking Tan with her. Mostly because he’d begged her to when she’d mentioned her lunch plans. But maybe this could prove to be a good distraction for her. Her own love life was in complete shambles, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t help out her friends with theirs.
She watched as Tan’s eyes lit up as soon as Bunn rounded the corner, and she smiled, really smiled, for the first time since the incident at the party.
Perhaps she hadn’t become completely jaded and cynical.
“I thought you were coming alone,” Bunn said, as he reached out to hug her.
“I was going to, but Tan was desperate to see you,” she murmured in his ear as he pulled her close, hopefully quietly enough that Tan couldn’t hear her.
Bunn pulled away, and she a saw a small, pleased smile dance at the corner of his lips before he cleared his throat and rearranged his features into an expression of disinterest, as if anyone was going to buy that. He was the one who’d kissed Tan, after all.
She grinned. The two of them were going to make the cutest couple.
**
An hour later, she and Tan were heading back to her car when she heard someone shout her name.
They both turned, and Jane was surprised to see a doctor running towards them. She recognized her, but she didn’t know her name. How did the doctor know hers?
“Sorry,” the doctor said, coming to a stop in front of them. “I hope I didn’t startle you. Your Ariel keychain fell off your bag.”
Jane let out a little gasp. “Oh my god, thank you so much!” she exclaimed, as the doctor handed the keychain over. “I would have been devastated to lose her.”
“It’s really cute. I love the Little Mermaid,” the doctor said with a smile. “I’m Fai, by the way.”
To be continued...

The Rise of Jimmy Casket Rewrite, Chapter 5
Tw - Past Loss
——————————————————————————
The three of them reached the hotel room, and the first thing all three of them did was throw themselves on the mattresses. The room itself wasn’t too big, two queen sizes and a small loveseat, as well as a bathroom and a counter with a microwave and a coffee maker on it.
Toast sighed, lounging on the mattress. Ghost came out of the bathroom, wiping his hands off on his red t-shirt. He looked at him, wrinkling his nose. “At least shower before getting on the bed you dirty ass dope.” He said, frowning.
Toast laughed a small bit, sinking more into the bed. “Not like you’ve never been this dirty laying in bed sir.”
Spooker and Colon looked up slightly from their makeshift pillow fort, entertained by their conversation. Ghost gave him a snarky look, and sat down on the edge of the bed. He looked tired, but not as tired as Toast felt. His limbs felt so heavy, like weights holding him to the bed.
“Long day.” Ghost said finally, messing with a piece of torn thread. Toast nodded.
Spooker stirred from the other bed, a pillow squishing from under his weight. He cleared his voice quietly. “Hey, Ghost?”
Ghost looked over at him, raising a brow. “Yeah?” He asked, sounding somewhat irritated. Spooker ignored his tone, scooching himself forwards from the side of the bed.
“Why did you leave?” He asked softly, cuddling a pillow close to his chest. Ghost’s face went white, before turning red. His tired expression morphed into one of anxiety, avoiding eye contact with the ginger.
“Don’t feel forced to answer sir, you don’t have to-“. Ghost cut Toast off.
“No! No, I do want to tell you all, it’s just, hard.” He said slowly, processing his words. He gave Toast an apologetic look. “Sorry.”
Toast sat up, nodding. “It’s okay.”
The brunet nodded, and took a deep breath.
“I left to protect you all.” He started. “I was getting worse, something was wrong with me. There was this voice in my mind, like anxiety but so much worse. Violent, horrible thoughts. ‘I could kill him for you.’ And, ‘I can protect you.’. It was like the voice knew me.”
Ghost swallowed, Toast noticed him beginning to clench the blanket. He sat forward, fighting off the urge to touch him, he knew that touching him would only make him worse.
“I didn’t want to hurt any of you, even if you all deserve it sometimes. So, I left. To get help for the voice, I knew it wasn’t just anxiety. It was a thing. So, I read around, and got help. One exorcism type thing later, it’s gone.”
He sighed shakily. “The thing called itself Jimmy, and it was not happy that I got rid of it. Or I guess him, but he wasn’t just pissed. He seemed desperate, like, hurt and frantic.
He pleaded like he knew me, ‘No! You can’t get hurt! I have to protect you!’ His head bled, like it had a hole in it. It was horrible. I told him no, and he just.”
Ghost wiped his eyes, the event was hard for him to talk about and Toast wanted to shut it down, but he kept talking.
“He said, ‘Then I’ll make myself come back.’ And then he left. But I knew what he meant. He was coming after you, and the other two. I couldn’t let that happen to you guys, so I left to find you three.” Ghost finished, and looked at Toast with a tired look in his eye. “So that’s why I left.”
Silence hung in the air, thick with anxiety and confusion. And then, Colon jumped up suddenly from the bed, causing pillows to lurch off the mattress. “The scratches!” He cried, “The scratches, the fire, Gavin. It’s all connected!”
Ghost turned to him, his nose scrunched in confusion. “What? What happened that you three didn’t tell me?”
Colon grabbed Spooker, peeling the bandaid off of his neck. The wound was healing, red and scabbed over, with dried blood sticking to the skin. Spooker flailed, smacking his hands against Colon's arm. “We left because we had started seeing these cuts on each other, as well as other wounds like bruises and scratches. Toast has some, I have a big bruise, and this is Spooker’s wound. Toast decided it had something to do with you so we left. Admittedly, I didn’t believe him at first, but he was right.”
Ghost stared at him, wide eyed. “Okay, and about the fire?”
“Well, we were staying at this gross motel and then, we woke up and it was lit on fire. Like in flames. We escaped but that's how Toast got his wound.” Spooker explained, now removed from Colons grasp.
Toast nodded as Ghost turned to him. “Another bizarre thing; we checked out the wreckage in the morning, and in the wood were these green vein-like things. They were glowing.”
Colon settled on the edge of the bed, making eye contact with Toast. “I wonder if it wasn’t Gavin that started the fire. When he hit you on the bridge, he had those lime green flames. They looked almost identical to the ones at the fire site.”
Ghost sighed. “All this for an exorcism. Who does this Ghost think he is and why does he care so much about who’s head he’s in. If I were a ghost, I’d be happy as hell to leave somebody’s head.”
Toast shrugged, “To be honest with you sir, I would have no idea.”
Spooker looked at Toast, “That reminds me, Toast, that night of the fire you were having a weird dream. We could tell, you were whispering about some ‘Mary’ girl. What was that about?”
Toast stiffened, and Ghost’s face turned angry. He spun to Spooker, glaring, “Hey! Don’t you-“
“It’s all right sir, he doesn’t know. It’s not his fault.”
Toast blinked away tears, closing his hands softly around his ring. It took a few minutes to get the words out, they were stuck in his throat, struggling to leave.
“Mary was my wife.” He said quietly, breathing out. Spooker and Colon stared at him. His heart seemed to beat in slow motion, his stomach filled with grief. It had been years since her death, but every time the wound opened it bled again. He closed his eyes, trying to calm down. A few tears fell down his face and he bit his lip.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know. Toast I am so sorry.”
Spooker said quietly. Toast could hear him shuffle off the bed, and he could feel the bed's weight shift as he sat next to him. Ghost huffed quietly from beside him, but Toast was thankful when he didn’t raise an argument.
“It’s all right.” He said solemnly. Ghost sat closer to him, he could feel his best friend's warmth on his side, showing as much affection as he could muster in the moment.
“I bet she was amazing.” Spooker murmured. Toast smiled.
“She was. Her smile was as bright as the sun, and it made you feel warm from head to toe. She had these beautiful hazel eyes, so filled with love. She was beautiful, but her personality was even more beautiful. She was sweet, and caring. But she had that kick to her, sarcasm that could almost beat Ghost.”
Ghost stifled a small chuckle beside him, and Toast knew he was thinking about the time the two had a sarcasm match. Ghost had barely won.
“She would have liked you Spooker, she would’ve liked Colon too.”
Toast dried his tears, sniffling.
Ghost turned to him, his green eye round. “You okay?” He asked.
Toast nodded, “I’ll be okay sir. So, anyways, back to the mission.”
Colon snorted from the other bed, “We can worry about the mission in the morning. It’s late, you and Ghost just got done crying, and you’ve almost died twice in the last 24 hours. We all need sleep.”
Ghost nodded, “And we need to get you to a doctor tomorrow morning too. That leg looks bad, if we wait any longer you could need an amputation.”
Toast let out a groan, “But-“
Ghost shook his head, “Absolutely no buts. This is coming from me, Johnny. Sleep, then I’ll take you to the doctors.”
Spooker looked at Ghost with a confused face. “Can you even drive Ghost?” Ghost rolled his eye.
“Of course I can!” He snapped. “I just don’t most of the time because Toast offers too.” He slipped under the covers, snorting.
“Now shut off the light I’m going to bed.” Ghost grumbled, turning face down on the pillow.
“I’ll sleep on the love seat.” Toast got up, but Ghost grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him down back onto the mattress.
“No. Now get the fuck in bed and sleep.” Ghost demanded. Toast bit back an argument, and slipped under the cover.
Toast felt the warmth settle over him, immediately melting into the mattress. He felt so warm and at ease, like he’d never get up. Colon reached up and turned the fan off, the light going with it.
The air conditioning hummed quietly from the window, keeping Toast at the perfect temperature. Ghost flipped over in the bed, “Hey Toast.”
“Yes sir?” Toast whispered back to his friend.
Ghost shuffled under the covers, “I hope you sleep well.” He whispered awkwardly. Toast smiled.
“You too sir.” He chuckled.
Spooker leaned up in his bed, “Awwwwww.”
Ghost flipped over aggressively. “I’ll kick the shit out of you.” He threatened, throwing a pillow at him. Spooker dodged it, and Colon let out a yelp as it hit him instead.
“Not! Cool! Ghost!” Colon yelled.
Spooker laughed, “Yeah Ghost, don’t throw pillows at Colon.”
Ghost huffed and fell back into bed. Toast smiled so wide he thought his cheeks would fall off.
‘Together at last.’ He thought to himself. Tiredness overwhelmed him, dragging him into sleep.

Part 14===Part 15===Part 16
The sound of screaming voices awoke me the next morning to the sight of an empty room. The dull aching in my chest and leg only grew the more my mind woke up.
The screaming escalated, followed by a series of crashes and thumps from downstairs. I sighed, shifting to the side and almost having to roll myself into a sitting position. It wasn’t unusual to wake up to the sound of yelling, but from the way things seemed to be, this one might just actually be serious.
Throwing my legs over the edge of the bed I inhaled deeply, steeling myself to stand when the bedroom door swung open and a wild looking Jeanette and Rose bolted inside before slamming the door shut behind them.
Rose slid down the back of the door, arms folded over her knees as she leaned her head against it and closed her eyes. Jeanette inhaled, exhaling the breath slowly through her nose in a quiet whistle and humming to herself as she shook her head at the closed door.
“What’s going on out there?” I asked, wincing slightly when the two women jumped and whipped their heads around to stare at me with terrified gazes.
“Shit! You’re awake!”
“Oh thank god you’re awake!”
Their voices swirled and merged into one single unit of confusing emotions and I couldn’t help but snicker at their faces. “Okay, conflicting moment aside there. I’ll repeat, what in the ever loving fuck are those idiots up to downstairs?”
The two began talking at once, each speaking animatedly and raising their voices in an attempt to talk over the other. I raised a finger, instantly silencing them to sheepish glances between each other.
“I am...one person. With two ears, and half a brain coming down off of some pretty intense pain killers. Please...one at a time.”
Jeanette glanced at Rose who shrugged in defeat before dropping her chin to rest on her folded arms. The younger woman gave her a nod of deference to speak on the subject.
“Well...okay so like this morning when I got up everything was pretty quiet so I thought I’d go to the kitchen to start breakfast. Hobi was there balancing dishes from the dishwasher in one hand while trying to open a cabinet with the other. Your uh..Jungkook was sitting at the table kinda staring off into space when Tae came in and scared Hoseok. He dropped all the dishes and that’s what set Jungkook off. Jimin jumped in and they started screaming at Tae about some mission and well... They’ve been fighting ever since and it’s only getting worse.”
I let out a long suffering sigh, scrubbing the heels of my hands into my eyes before looking up at them. “Help me up.”
“But…” Jeanette paused as I shook my head.
“I’ve got to get down there. Those idiots are going to kill each other and I’m the only one that can stop them.”
Rose groaned, banging her head against the door and fisting her hands through her hair. “This is all my fault…”
“That’s not true.” I grunted, shifting my weight to the edge of the bed.
“But if I hadn’t been there you wouldn’t have gotten hurt and they wouldn’t be fighting over it.” She groaned again, head hanging as teardrops fell to the floor.
“Tae and Jimin have been at odds for a very long time. And Jungkook...well… Kookie can be the absolute sweetest and smartest man you could meet. But when it comes right down to it the man is an actual blonde. I joke with him all the time they dipped his brain in bleach before they handed him off to his mother.”
Rose snorted, glancing up to me as she wiped her tears away. “Isn’t that all men though?”
The three of us giggled, sharing a moment of joined exasperation before sobering up as another crash echoed through the house.
“Alright, for real. Jin’s gonna cry if any more of his kitchen gets destroyed. Come on, help me up. I’ve got to end this.”
***
True to form the dumb asses were still fighting by the time we’d made it down the stairs.
Jimin was off to the side, standing by the fridge as he screamed obscenities at Taehyung. Jungkook and Tae were on the floor, pulling at each other’s hair with their legs wrapped around one another to keep the other from escaping.
A massive bruise had bloomed just beneath Tae’s right eye and Jungkook’s lip was split and seeping blood all over.
“It’s all your fault Tae! Every time she’s gotten hurt it’s always you to blame!” Jimin screamed. He moved as if to launch himself into the scuffle but Hobi, who’d been watching from the stove reached over to stop him, effectively wrapping him in a bear hug and pinning his arms to his sides.
“Oh no you don’t Doc. We don’t need you getting hurt.”
“Let me go! Let me at him! This has been a long time coming Hobi!” The boy was basically foaming at the mouth, tears streaming down his cheeks as he struggled in the dancer’s hold.
I couldn’t help but sigh, knowing the only way to stop this was if I intervened. Glancing between Jeanette and Rose I shrugged them off, taking a step forward on my own and muttering under my breath. This was going to suck.
“Boys! Please! Stop this!” I yelled, internally cringing as my weight landed on my injured leg.
The offending limb buckled under the pressure, causing me to yelp out in pain as I staggered forward a half a step before falling to the ground. It was worth it though.
All activity in the room ceased. For a moment it was quiet as I lay there wheezing and whimpering in pain. And then chaos ensued.
From my vantage point I could see the boys scrambling to my side, Jungkook and Tae disentangling themselves from each other as Jimin and Hobi pushed each other out of the way in an attempt to reach my side. Jin, Namjoon, and Yoongi walked into the room just in time to see Rose and Jeanette reach me first, shooing the boys out of the way as they helped me into a sitting position.
“Fuck sake. What are you all in here tearing the place up for?” Namjoon growled, giving the younger boys the stink eye as Jimin crouched at my side to check my bandages.
“They’ve been arguing for the last hour, how have you all not noticed till now?” Hobi grumped as he stood to his feet and dusted off his jeans.
“Because unlike you idiots we’ve actually been doing something.” Seokjin frowned, leaning his broad shoulders against the doorframe as he crossed his arms over his chest.
“And what’s got the three of you so wrapped up in each other that you couldn’t notice the idiot brigade trying to off one another?” I huffed, pushing away the pain of my leg.
“Securing the satellite links, setting up better firewall protections for the security cameras.” Namjoon replied.
“Reinforcing the front gate, making sure our rear’s covered in terms of fortifications.” Yoongi added in.
“Adding more cameras to the sides of the house just to make sure we have every inch of the lawn and side yards covered.” Seokjin frowned, glancing at the three younger men. “I can’t believe the three of you are grown ass men. And to think one of you is in charge of giving me orders.”
He shook his head, eyes darting back and forth between them before landing on the mess that was his kitchen. It was almost comical the way his gaze went from mildly frustrated to all of a sudden full blown horror and betrayal.
“M...my… MY KITCHEN!!!”
The series of events that followed may have been comical but it certainly managed to squash the feud and rising tensions that’d settled over my boys in the time I’d been unconscious.
Jeanette and Rose managed to help me off the ground, settling me into a chair at the center island as Seokjin screamed and ranted about how ungrateful the younger men were while demanding they cleaned up their mess.
Jungkook and Taehyung actually managed to look ashamed and remorseful as they swept up the broken plates together and wiped down the counters before settling into mopping the entirety of the area. They stayed silent, barely glancing at each other or speaking until Jin tore into Namjoon who’d resigned himself to ‘helping’ cook breakfast before getting scolded about holding the knife upside down as he attempted to chop an onion.
“Ya! How can someone have such a high IQ and STILL not know the meaning for sharp side down?? All those brains and muscles and no common sense!” Jin’s face shone bright red as he screamed, barely stopping for breath as he smacked poor Namjoon over the head with a wooden spoon.
Taehyung snorted, Jungkook giggled, and after a shared look between them they burst out laughing, leaning against each other for support as they lost their minds over the sheer visual of the genius level man getting scolded by his elder.
Jimin all the while did his best to address my leg, crouching beneath the ledge of the island as he checked the skin above and beneath the bandage.
“It hasn’t bled through, so the stitches are holding. But I really wish you would stay off it as much as possible.” He frowned up at me, tiny hands wrapped gently around my ankle as he balanced on his heels.
“I’m sorry Doc. It’s just, you all were so worked up over nothing and I just had to do something to get it to stop.” I shrugged, not sure if it was a valid enough reason for almost dislocating anything that was still left to injure.
“I mean, you could have just fired in the air or something. Thrown something at them, anything but literally throwing yourself to the ground and risking actually breaking something.”
“I could have sure. But that would have meant risking the ceiling and Yoongi’s room. Not about that life if I’m being honest.” I grinned at the doctor, earning myself an exasperated glare and a pat to my uninjured leg.
“Really, and here I thought you were the rational one in this group of misfits.” Jimin stood, brushing his pants off and then walking around the island to wash his hands at the sink.
“I may be irrational at times but at least I have the ability to forgive people.” My blunt words hit home. I could tell. He’d paused all motion, staring down at his hands as the water ran over his fingers.
I reached across, turning the sink off and folding my hands before me on the cool countertop. Patiently I waited, watching the emotions flit across his face faster than his expert fingers stitching up a wound.
“Jimin...we’re going to have to talk about this eventually.” I spoke calmly, knowing that anything could set him off if I misspoke.
“I know it’s just…”
“We were all attached. The first truly good thing to come out of all our awful work.” Pausing I focused for a moment on the tiny scrapes and scratches I’d gotten from being out in the thick of it.
“We got comfortable. All of us did. And sloppy. But Taehyung can’t be blamed for that. We were all at fault. But more importantly those bastards that kidnapped me and tried to hold me hostage were at fault.” I turned slightly, watching as the others went about their business.
“When it came down to it he had to make a choice. Yes we’re always family first but everything was on the line. Literally everything Jimin.” I turned back to him, watching the frown deepen his brow and tug that sweet face of his into a scowl. “If it weren’t for Taehyun,g half our crew would be dead or in jail. Including Namjoon and Jungkook. Do you think I’d have ever let him live it down if he had chosen any other way?”
He shook his head, tossing the towel in his hands on the counter. “No… No you’re right. You wouldn’t have. You’d have torn Daegu up, burned the whole city down.” He chuckled and I joined him, my shoulders shaking with the snickers joined between us.
“You’re not wrong. But considering the circumstances I didn’t need to do a thing. The city’s already burning.” The mood chilled at those words and we sat together in silence, watching the others fuss and fight over cooking and who was on dish duty.
“This could be the end days huh?”
Turning back to him I sighed, though the motion left me wincing at the pain in my chest. “That may be so… and if it is, if everything is ending and the world is burning...shouldn’t you go make up with your best friend?”
“...Yeah….yeah you’re right.” his eyes crinkled as he smiled at me, reaching across and giving my hand a squeeze. “Thank you for talking some sense into me.”
“Jungkook may be the brawn but we all know I’m the brains of the operation here.” I snorted at my own words. My heart warmed as I watched Jimin walk over to Tae and begin whispering softly to him.
Both men, grown as they were, became teary eyed, suddenly lunging forward and hugging each other as close as two men could.
“Damn, look at you.” Rose plopped into the chair beside me, nudging my arm as she grinned at the two now openly sobbing gangsters. “You get paid to be the family shrink?”
“Nah, they couldn’t afford me if I were to actually charge them.”
Jeanette ambled over, hand subconsciously rubbing her belly as she leaned into Rose who wrapped a gentle arm around her waist. “I don’t think even the richest man could afford your services. You really out here keeping these boys from killing each other and still surviving in this world? Absolute boss if you ask me.”
It felt good to laugh with them as we sat there. It’d been a good long while since I’d had female friends. Not that I didn’t love my boys but there was something about being around someone who got my mind without me having to say something that just felt so right.
Things settled down as we all gathered around to our meal, the chatter subdued and amiable as food was passed around in abundance. It would last us a while sure, but the idea that at some point it might run out had us all appreciating it that much more.
As I munched on my toast my mind wandered, but my thoughts were abruptly by Taehyung and Rose cheering as they jumped out of their chairs and began laughing and hugging each other.
“YAH! What the hell!” Jin demanded as he scrambled to wipe the juice he’d spilled on himself at the shock of their cheering.
“We did it!” Tae grinned, the biggest boxiest grin on his face as his ears blushed crimson from the kiss Rose had planted on his cheek.
“We managed to fix all of the security issues! Cams are on lock and all internal systems are now free of amature hour hack jobs!” Rose’s smile was infectious, cheering the whole table and causing the others to whoop and holler their appreciation for the two computer experts.

Take Me Home Now: Chapter Eight
Chapter Eight: They Are Cryin'
Set after the events of ME3.
A rewrite. Ao3.
FemShepxKaidan
"Fuck."
It wasn't a painful awakening; she actually felt damn good. Clearer, like the tiny neurons in her brain fired without a jolt of pain. The sweet moment of clarity after the removal of an infected tooth. Bliss. If only a familiar face could loom over her, a happy embrace of the one she loved. A blissful reunion.
The aging woman who looked over her with a sour expression erasing her gratitude and any field of butterflies illusion. Along with the confusion of waking up in unfamiliar territory.
Right, she was dying just a moment before.
"Where am I?"
This sloppily white-painted interior was not part of the shopping center she recognized. The medical machine that counted out her vitals was also out of place, but that was a minute detail. Jane had woken up from the dead once already, just not inside of a shipping crate. Make that one low she had not yet met.
"Just outside of London," the woman's scowl relaxed, "you're with the Special Operations Biotic Company. Luckily for you, I understand you had a rattled implant."
Her hand was grabbed before she felt her spirits utterly bottom out, the woman's dark brown eyes peering out at her from behind black and white streaked hair. A moment of shared pain passed between them before Jane could not manage to keep up the contact, "how about the LT? My home?"
"The latter is in one piece. I'm not familiar with the person you speak of," the lady spoke gently, "you were rushed here after an injury. But let me introduce you to the person that saved your life, Doctor Balcan."
Jane's gaze shifted to the person arriving on the other side of her bed, the most beautiful creature she had ever beheld. Dark brown hair and eyes loomed over her; the soft smile set upon full brown lips looked perfectly primped without a touch of makeup. The simple doctor's smock hung perfectly on her body, the garment unable to smear an ounce of the poise this woman possessed. As the female nodded in greeting and her long lashes crested her cheeks, Jane was infected with jealousy.
"Thank you, Helen," even her voice was sweet, not in an artificial way, but in the vein of the sweetness of a ripe strawberry, "I think I can handle Jane for the moment if you wouldn't mind grabbing her meal."
The woman waited for Helen to leave before speaking again, "how long have your biotic powers been misfunctioning?"
"Since the Reapers fell," time was a funny thing to Jane anymore.
"Just shy of seven months," the minuscule movement of her eyebrow hardly seemed surprised, "though, I wasn't expecting to be fixing an L5n implant."
"Who else would be stupid enough to bullrush a krogan," any vanguard worth their salt knew how other biotics could view them. Rash. Stupid. Bullheaded.
"I think your stupid luck is what saved your life. You should have had severe seizures attacks, if not died from them, months ago."
Jane continued with a snarl, "but the mall. How... did everyone make it?"
"It was unkind of us not to tell you immediately, but only one civilian casualty," the doctor proffered a soft smile, "the Special Ops group got to your compound in time to repel the brunt of the attack. We had heard there was a pocket trying to rebuild; we just weren't sure if you were friendly, so the entire team did not come along. They had to rush you back here. The equipment is too fragile to move quickly."
She was even nice, gross.
"I was asked to pass on the message that you keep your ass down," at least the swear word brought her down from the utterly ethereal.
Jane's smile cracked, slightly painful against the cybernetic scars that littered her cheek.
"Your body is a curious piece of work; the sheer amount of upgrades and scarring at a microscopic level is fascinating," the woman pulled out her datapad, scrolling down what Jane assumed was a list of medical notes, "synthetic weaving to reinforce bones, microfibres in your muscles, synthetic skin fibres as well. I can't imagine the cost of that modified biotic amp."
Jane looked at her blankly, "you certainly poked around."
"Somebody wanted you alive," strawberry remarked, undeterred, "I'd think you're some sort of mad scientist experiment -that's a foolish notion. But I have my bets on Special Ops... N7."
Jane's eyes snapped into a glare, setting her jaw hard. Teeth grinding into her following biting statement, "don't attempt to bite off more than you can chew."
The woman returned the statement with tempered pity, lips tucked into a frown. The kickback from her calloused words came back twofold as a sharp pain seared across her orbital bone, requiring a hand to staunch the heat before it ended out in a cry. Jane should be thankful, instead, she was pissed. Most of the angst directed inward, some at the patheticness of the situation, little at the well-meaning doctor.
"Can I go?"
"I'll need you here for a couple more weeks minimum."
Fucking perfect.
The doctor continued before Jane's snarl turned into an attack, "you know you need to keep your biotics offline for a while. During that time, we can prepare to merge our groups as one. We'd like your help in escorting us back."
The last line was a platitude, but the LT's message made more sense. The guilt of their previous encounter started to trickle into her psyche before she squelched it away with a flinch, "any more orders, doc?"
"As you are The Commander, I think I should be deferring to you."
"Come again?"
The female laughed behind her hand, "it's obvious who you are. You may fool everyone else with the fancy scars, wilted demeanor, and blonde hair -which by the way, looks fabulous- but your unique physiology and enhancements give it away. I struggled with the thought briefly because how could the savior of the galaxy be here? You charged in with the strike team that went to activate the Crucible. But by God's grace, you're here."
"You can't be-"
Strawberry waved away the protest with her hand, "I'm more than some yokel surgeon. I don't get to be a spec ops field doctor without further training. You won't fool me."
"You bitch."
"Language, miss!"
The sharp crack of the older's woman's words snuffed the faint glow Jane had unconsciously started to accumulate. But it did not dim her glower, blue eyes pinned on the female tapping something into a datapad. Jane was still, frozen in the moment until the second snap of warmth from a small body clambering into her bed shook her from a blind stupor. The little hands and the mound of mousy hair looking at her with barely disguised disdain.
"But I already know those words," Evelyn murmured, only to increase the scrutiny Helen placed on her patient.
"Why are you-" the room immediately thickened with another aura, a solemn shake from the salt and pepper haired woman stopped her question, "are you here because Pater sent you?"
"It is my job," the girl declared bravely, "Pater said that I was to stop you from fighting with anymore krogan. Or just fighting."
"It was my fault, Evelyn...Helen," Strawberry squeaked, "I poked Mar- sorry, I meant Jane without telling her."
Jane's attention returned to the Doctor, pupils narrowing. That was no longer her name.
"I'll excuse it this time, Rahna," Helen's voice returned to a gentle timbre. Handing over the plate of rations, prepared in a manner that was meant to be appeasing. Simple rations that Jane was not thrilled to consume, "eat up. Biotics need energy. I've seen you guys crash before. I don't want you accidentally breaking something expensive."
Rahna.
Rahna...
Rahna.
The woman raised an eyebrow in her direction, plump lips playing into a smirk. Jane was had. Jealousy sunk deeper into her guts, bordering on hatred. How could Kaidan call her beautiful after seeing this divine creature? Beautiful on the Citadel. Beautiful after the first night they had bunked together. Beautiful every time they fucked after. Beautiful in the small moments. Beautiful in the big and the in-between. Had he meant Rahna all along?
"Two weeks."
"What now?" Jane snapped away from the grip of her thoughts.
Rahna crossed her arms, Evelyn giggled, and Helen spoke, "biotics."
"All of this commotion is probably a little too much for her, right now," Rahna cautioned to a sulking child, "let Jane eat in peace while I run a few more tests."
"Yup, super hungry," Jane murmured under her breath.
The patient's gaze did not stray from the Doctor, laser-focused on the slightest movement she made. Waiting for her to do something rash, her temper barely holding behind her tongue. Violent thoughts collided in her head, the desire to do something impetuous a string she had yet to completely cut. It was the easier way, the brutish way- but it was not the way Shepard did it. Shepard would resist, The Commander famously turned the other cheek. Chose kindness. Some of her could still seep through.
Even if it was in the form of stony silence.
"Why hide who you are? You are the one person who could reunite everyone."
A bloody icon. Hero. Butcher. Madwoman. Lover. Terrorist. Murderer. Savior. Pathetic.
"There's nothing to explain," a surly statement only dampened by a flinch, "I don't owe you anything."
"So, it wouldn't matter if I told everyone?"
Jane's silence was the answer.
"This is Major Alenko's squad, I'm sure everyone would be interested," Strawberry continued, placing her first foot away from the bedside, "Let alone you being Shepard, the Major's fling is a very juicy topic. I'm sure meeting the woman would be a top priority."
Rahna took several steps away, gliding out of the retrofitted container. Someone pulled her back, Jane regretted the breeze against her exposed backside. Luckily nobody seemed to pay them much mind in the moment.
"No," her eyes lit with tears, "don't. I can't."
Kaidan knew it was the end; Mary couldn't bring herself into accepting that. Luck. Stupidity. Credits. Spite. They had all stopped her death, had prevented her from reaching a low she could not climb out of. The brutal murder of her parents. Losing her unit on Akuze. Hell, even the deaths of friends during her campaign against the Reapers. They hurt like hell, but it never brought her to her knees. Now... in this moment. In the reality of losing Kaidan, she crashed. Tears, sobbing, railing against the ground. It was pathetic.
Was it the loss of her entire family aboard the Normandy, or just one man?
Dark brown eyes met her on her level, gentle the hint of moisture in her deep eyes, "everyone here mourns him."
"Fuck you."
Rahna laughed, offering out her hand and pulling the woman up to her feet, "I won't tell your secret, but I think you should talk to someone. We have-"
"No, nobody else."
"You know the risks of PTSD; you can't push through it."
"I'm fine."
Jane's stare hardened the emotions out-drying the tears riveting down her scarred cheeks.
"Or how about a deal, my silence for a few talks? Nothing official, just friendship."
She considered for several long moments, biting back each bitter comment that fought to come out. It wasn't the time for resistance. Talking wouldn't hurt, especially if it meant Rahna kept silent. What was she supposed to do for the next two weeks? Stare at the wall? Teach a child to swear? Avoid Kaidan's squad as much as humanly possible?
"Friendship may be pushing it."

This tale starts, as any good fiction does, with a girl crash landing on a foreign planet. And, like any good fiction, it follows a theme of serendipitous happening, and tentacles. Behold, serendipity and tentacles— or dare we call it…. tentacledipity.

“What are you doing?”
If anyone asked, you would tell them that you were the picture of grace as you got the absolute life scared out of you. The reality was, however, that you let out a sharp, squeaky scream wherein your voice broke and you pretty much tumbled like a mannequin with recently oiled joints out of the tree you’d been climbing before you were so rudely startled.
You weren’t far enough from the ground to break anything with your fall, but you were far enough that you were pretty sure you bruised your ass from the impact. A whimper escaped you at the sharp, deep ache in your gluteus maximus that resulted, and when you looked up to see the cause of your startle you almost shat yourself once more. Of course, you’d heard his voice and subconsciously known who it was the second he spoke, but seeing Jimin looming over you with an expression that was a cross between concerned and incredibly amused really made the belated realisation sink in. Another fright doing harm to your poor, weak heart. Your time on this planet was going to come to an end due to someone scaring you to death, one day.
Wait just a second…
By thinking that, did you just subconsciously presume you weren’t ever going to leave, or…? You reeled for a moment, an odd feeling coming to life inside you. That was extremely out of character for you, and you probably needed to see a doctor or something. Or maybe go annoy Yoongi so you could get some sense knocked back into you.
The soft sound that resulted from Jimin shifting his weight from foot to foot on the grass brought you back to the present moment and you let out a pained, sheepish laugh. Right, he asked you a question. What were you doing? You didn’t really remember, to be honest. Possibly a cause for concern, but who could blame you for a little momentary memory loss when faced with a being as fine as Jimin was? The answer was absolutely no one and you’d defend that to your grave.
“Uhh…” you floundered for an answer that wouldn’t make you look like a complete idiot, and came up empty. Well, humiliating truth it was. “To be honest? I just wanted to climb the tree. I wasn’t stealing the fruits, I promise.”
Jimin’s brow rose, marks flushing soft periwinkle. “These trees are in the more open sectors of the royal gardens, taking one of the fruits wouldn’t be stealing. Although…”
He wrinkled his nose, directing his gaze to the incriminating fruit that hung, bulbous and bright pink, from one of the upper-middle branches, looking thoroughly disgusted. “I wouldn’t recommend it, unless you enjoy being violently sick for several days. They are kind of poisonous, for kelkie and humans alike.”
You made a face at that, giving the fruit the stink eye for the audacity it had to almost trick you with its pretty, appealing outside. How dare it—pink means yummy, not poison! The nerve.
“Noted,” you said, gulping. A beat passed before you turned to the male suddenly, eyes narrowed as you recalled something. “Wait, how did you know I was there? And how did you get over here so fast? If you’re going to flash-step over here and scare the shit out of me, you could at least catch me. I mean, I wouldn’t complain.”
Jimin’s head tilted, full lips tugging. “Noted,” he remarked, clowning you unabashedly. “I’ll be sure to save you the fall and yank you from the tree myself next time.”
At that, you couldn’t help the sudden laugh that tore out of you—the sound of it made his lips twitch further. He waited for you to calm a little before he continued.
“And if you must know, I was going for a brief walk. You’re actually in my gardens right now, petal.”
You balked, a flush of embarrassment rushing to heat your cheeks. Oh. So that’s what that short wall you’d jumped over while exploring had meant. Huh. Perhaps you were a little stupid; then again, that knowledge wasn’t really anything new.
Prior to this, you’d been a little preoccupied with your throbbing ass, but now, as you sat and gazed up at the magnetic form that was Jimin, you were suddenly reminded of the conversation from the other day with Joy and other raunchy parties. Your gaze flicked to his sides on instinct before you caught yourself and tore it away, averting it to the foliage to be safe. If you stare at his back he’s going to know you know, dumbass!
“O-oh, am I? Whoops, my bad,” you tried to distract yourself with a too-soon attempt at climbing back to your feet. You wobbled, voice shooting up in alarm, “To be fair though there’s no way to know these are your gardens, like, where’s the sign? You should reall—YAH OH MY!”
When you wobbled again a second time, barely a split second away from toppling off your wobbly legs and back onto your throbbing behind, Jimin’s hand shot to grasp your wrist and in one fell swoop he yanked you from your tentative crouch to standing. In the process he, overestimating your level of resistance, ended up hauling you straight into his chest. He barely stumbled as you knocked into him, your arms shooting out to wrap around him on instinct. An embarrassing instinct in actuality, but certainly not one you were about to complain about.
A beat of silence passed while you caught up to the sudden turn of events before you pulled your head back from where it had been resting over his shoulder. Utilising the fact your arms had ended up looped around his waist, you tightened your hold around him and pressed your hands firmly against his spine. You felt the hitch of his breath against your chest. When you grew brave enough to allow your eyes to stray to his face, they caught his own—deep, dark pools of molten cocoa, pupils almost swallowing his iris’ whole, hypnotised you for a moment. Even meeting his gaze like this made your lungs constrict and your heart jump in unison with your stomach. Giddy, excited—a sudden sense of shyness tickled the back of your neck but it was far overpowered by the deep, instinctive urge to push him a little. You wanted to play.
When he said nothing, you allowed your lips to twitch into a big, dumb grin— a courteous moment’s warning for what you were about to do—and then you moved your hands to his shoulder blades before pressing your fingertips in and dragging them down either side of his spine. He went rigid, yet the muscles of his back still yielded to the teasing pressure of your fingertips. Further down his back, about mid way, you felt your fingertips catch on something even through the shirt and Jimin jerked, a low rumble sounding in the back of his throat as a shudder ran through the entirety of his body.
You didn’t get all the way down his back before you pulled away, heart racing a little too fast from the sudden intensity of his gaze as it burned into you, as a result of your teasing. You hadn’t noticed his grip earlier but now you were painfully aware of the firm hold he had on your waist, fingers gripping with just enough pressure that your stomach flipped like you were a mere schoolgirl back on Earth.
As steamy as the moment was turning out to be, it was broken by a very sudden, very sharp and very loud noise—
One that sounded suspiciously like a dog.
Jerking away from Jimin at the sound of a rough bark, in either fear or surprise you didn’t really know, you spun to face the source. You were instantly rooted to the spot in shock.
Holy shit, that was a massive dog.
Well, calling it a dog might have been a bit of an insult. Whatever it was, with whatever canine resemblance it had, it was absolutely beautiful and nothing short of majestic. Instantly, you were in absolute awe and standing in a state of reverence.
The beast was over five feet tall and gave Jimin a run for his money, his entire coat the deepest space blue you’d ever seen that bled into a plethora of deep rose and cerulean that seemed to change as the strands shifted in the wind. It was incredibly canine in its features, resembling something between a wolf or a fox from earth but much, much bigger—the angled face, the mischievous eyes that hid an underlying danger. Around its eyes and down its muzzle, the same peculiar rose-aquamarine blend painted beautiful, mesmerising markings.
Something shifted out of the corner of your eyes, and when your gaze followed it, it took you a moment to realise you were looking at not one, but two big fluffy tails. Contrary to the dog-like appearance of the beast, the tails swayed playfully and in a much more feline manner. It was as though it was trying to hypnotise you with the movement, and you were only saved from falling into the trap by the sound of another soft yap.
You squeaked, jumping in what you were sure was a mixture of fright and excitement this time—although, to be fair, the line between the two emotions was awfully thin these days.
“Oh my god,” you choked, sounding very much like you were going to cry and honestly? You might have been about to. “Puppy!”
At the sound of the pure joy in your voice, it was as though a switch had been flipped in the creature that, until then, had just been standing there, looking incredibly majestic and incredibly intimidating. As though it could sense that you weren’t afraid, it immediately dropped into a crouch, behind wiggling and tongue hanging out of its mouth, before it pounced forward and you met the ground once more.
This time, with Jimin in tow.
The beast was so massive that instead of only tackling you, it had managed to catch both you and Jimin in one go. The aforementioned male was now pressed to the ground next to you as the two of you received a barrage of sloppy licks from the creature in between excited yapping and melodic trill noises. You couldn’t help the delighted squeal that escaped your lips, your hands coming up to scratch and rub behind the creature’s large, triangular ears. They flicked and vibrated instantly at your motions, and the beast moved its attention solely to you. Meaning, you got a face full of alien dog tongue and spit.
“Meanie!” Jimin gasped, attempting to sit up and somehow managing despite the incredible weight of the beast. “Off, now, Meanie! #$%#$!”
Jimin rattled something else off in kelkoe and to your complete and utter surprise, the canine creature pulled back immediately and sat down on its haunches, tongue still lolling out of its elongated maw as its head flicked between the two of you and its tails lashed excitedly behind it. Somewhat dazed and a little upset at the lack of happy dog-creature within arms reach, you struggled into a sitting position yourself, unable to tear your eyes from the animal before you.
“What is that? He’s so beautiful…” you found yourself asking before you even realised, eyes wide. You heard Jimin make a surprised noise, and turned to see him looking at you strangely.
“You are not afraid?” he queried, head tilting like he couldn’t make sense of your reaction. You watched as his marks swirled through several different colours before settling on light, playful blue.
“No?” you replied, equally as confused at his reaction. “Why would I be? I love dogs!”
“Dogs…” Jimin mumbled to himself for a moment, eyes unfocused, before he let out a soft noise and turned to you. “Are dogs creatures on Earth? Do you have Ina there too?”
“Ina?” you repeated, turning your gaze back to the animal who was, by the way, still waiting patiently in place like the best boy you had ever seen. “Is that what this creature is?”
Jimin nodded, and after surveying you a moment longer he rose to his feet, dusting off his (very shapely) behind as he did so. A smile tugged his lips as he looked over at the animal in question. “This is Meanie, my Ina.”
He then parted from your side to move over to the creature, wrapping an arm over his massive shoulders and reaching up to scratch behind his ear. Meanie’s hind leg began thumping against the ground in glee at the movement, head rolling to press affectionately against the side of Jimin’s own. You watched on in awe, fingers absolutely itching to join Jimin in giving this good boy the pets he deserved.
“Your Ina? He’s your pet?” you asked, watching the interaction and the softness of Jimin’s countenance with increasing fondness. Even so, a part of you felt oddly betrayed. You’d been here how long and hadn’t known there were giant dogs roaming about willy nilly? An absolute travesty!
Meanie’s head whipped from where it was laying against Jimin’s, and to your complete and utter surprise he then proceeded to give you the stink eye. Jimin let out a loud, tinkling laugh.
“No, Meanie is not a pet. He is my companion.” Jimin’s smile didn’t leave as he turned his gaze from the creature, to you, then back again. “The people of my clan have very strong bonds with the Ina. From birth, we are paired with an Ina pup, and form a connection with them as we grow up.”
You rose to your feet as you listened to him, advancing slowly—although, it was more for just in case than anything, since Meanie seemed to have forgotten about your offense and had since resumed laying his head on Jimin. The creature seemed to be an absolute softie, and it tickled you that his name was Meanie when he seemed to be such a gentle soul.
“That’s so cool!” you said, mindful of not being too loud. “You two have a connection? Can you hear each other’s thoughts?”
Jimin shot you a look of surprise, smiling with something akin to pride. “Yes, actually. Although, I think that he is better attuned to my thoughts than I am to his—I mostly hear him when he is hungry, or lonely. Isn’t that right, pupa?”
The dog—you’d already resigned to recognising him as that in your head for convenience’s sake— had the nerve to roll his eyes, turning his oversized head to give you a look that had too much exasperation within it for you to take seriously. You snorted, and Jimin grinned. His eyes caught the way your fingers twitched, and he gestured to Meanie.
“You can pet him, he won’t mind. He is a sucker for it, actually. Don’t tell him that I told you.”
The dog huffed, but you caught his eye on you expectantly. Laughing once more, you sidled closer and allowed your fingers to sink into the long fur at the back of his neck. It was thick, downy, yet silken and smooth as you ran your fingers through it. It took more effort than expected to delve them deep enough to be able to deliver a good scratch, but when you finally made it the reaction Meanie gave was worth it. He wobbled, swaying towards Jimin before wobbling again at another scratch of your nails against his skin and swaying back towards you.
A surprised squeak escaped you as he sagged against you completely, your arms coming up to embrace him around his thick neck, hands still scratching where they could. “Meanie! You cutie! You’re so cute and handsome, wah, what are we gonna do with you?! I’ve never seen a puppy so handsome in my life…”
You pressed your face into his fur, feeling his resulting amused rumble and happy trill against your skin. “I’m—I don’t think I’m ever gonna let go. I can’t. You’ve beaten me, Meanie. I’m defeated. You have my heart.”
You didn’t know if these Ina creatures could laugh, but it sure felt like they could. Jimin, too, let out a soft chuckle. It was silent a moment before his smooth tone sounded in the air once more.
“Are you still hungry, petal?”
The pet name made heat blossom across your face, and you were thankful that the thick fur of the animal you currently had it buried in shielded it from view. Yes, you came onto Jimin on the daily, but that didn’t mean you weren’t allowed to have a little shame every now and then. Gotta keep yourself grounded, after all.
“I’m always hungry,” you said, trying not to voice how unreasonably embarrassed you were. Meanie made what sounded like a noise of agreement, and Jimin snorted in response.
“Then follow me,” he said, “You are already in my gardens, you may as well come further in for some lunch. I have some fruits that are actually edible.”
You pulled your face from Meanie’s fluffy neck, at first preparing to fire something sassy back but instead settling for a bright smile when you realised just how empty your stomach was feeling. Well, it was empty enough earlier that you’d attempted to climb a tree for some fruit, so you weren’t doing that great to begin with, arguably.
“Fine, since you insist,” you shot back playfully, hands still idly scratching the oversized pup before you. He was appreciative, if his happy rumbling was anything to go by. It was like there was a motor that thrummed to life deep in his chest, vibrating against your body where it was pressed to his. God, you loved animals. So easy to read and get along with.
Jimin’s lips pursed before being tugged into an amused smile, the male turning on his heel and beginning to walk away. “Well, if you’d be so kind as to follow—my rooms are right this way. Come, Meanie. If she tries to slip away, drag her back.”
Jimin was joking (you hoped), and Meanie seemed to realise so (you hoped), so you weren’t as alarmed as you might have been if anyone else directed a creature like Meanie to essentially prevent you from running away.
Which you weren’t going to do, by the way. You didn’t know if Jimin really thought you would, but you’d be surprised if it was the case since you were so open and vocal about your interest in him.
Meanie nudged his head into your shoulder, and it was only then that you realised you'd been staring absently at Jimin's retreating form a little too long. Taking the hint, you reached to rub behind one of the creatures tall, pointy ears and he gave an approving huff as he began to prompt you after his companion.
To be honest, you were expecting a longer trip than what you got; it was barely a minute later that you were emerging from the vibrant greens, blues and iridescent hues of the gardens and encroaching upon a path, and then the familiar material of the palace walls came into view. Jimin made a beeline for a gap in the wall, which you realised was actually a large doorway housing two large double-doors, each embedded with two large, glassy windows. It surprised you to see the material, since you'd noticed a lot of the windows in the palace had nothing at all guarding them, but you supposed that being on the ground floor and so close to gardens and forestry, you wouldn't want anything unsavoury crawling in.
Even though you followed the kelkie inside the room without question, it didn't click until you were several paces into it that it was his room. It was large, very spacious and somewhat minimally decorated. His bed was to the left wall adjacent to the doorway you'd just come through, mattress bigger than some of the ones you'd seen in the guest wing and blocked off by thin gossamer-looking material that spilt from the ceiling, partly obscuring the gleam of silken sheets and blankets. Jimin was the type to make his bed every day, it seemed, and it shouldn't have made you, a being that left a trail of mess and chaos behind you by accident everywhere you went, more attracted to him but it did. Somehow, it did. You thought that at this point you were honestly so far gone he could probably confess to sucking his thumb as he slept and you'd take it in stride without even so much as batting a lash.
"Woah," you muttered without realising, eyes sweeping over his room and taking in each and every detail you could. You were in his room, damn it, and it might not have been under the circumstances you really wished-- not to say they wouldn't hopefully come true one day-- but damn it if you were going to squander the opportunity for some more insight into who he really is. "Nice crib."
The alien shot you an odd, curious look at that, head tilting for a moment before he returned to whatever he was doing before you spoke-- which, it seemed, was taking a bowl of curiously coloured fruits and a jug from a table against the wall to the right of the room. He shook his head, evidently deciding he didn't need to know what the word 'crib' meant (you'd seen the question in his eyes), and turned from the table to begin making his way over. You hadn't realised before, but next to the doorway you'd come through was a small table of medium width, the obsidian-like stone polished and gleaming in the light from the doorway. Two plush cushions sat on the floor, and on top of the table was a small cube pot made of the same material as the table in a lighter shade, an endearingly flowering plant sprouting from the soil within.
Jimin moved and placed the bowl there, along with the jug, and gestured for you to take a seat while he went back to the other table to retrieve something else-- you realised after he pulled whatever he was looking for from a cupboard there that it was actually cups. Following his direction without even thinking, you plopped down on the cushion and narrowly avoided banging your knee on the edge of the table, thankful that Jimin's back was currently to you since you hadn't pulled the most attractive of expressions at your near-miss. There was a huff from behind you, reminding you of Meanie's presence, and you turned just in time to see the gigantic creature flopping down on the other side of the room; there was something there on the floor, like a thin mattress, that was covered in soft throws and blankets. The canine creature settled down and nestled into the fabrics, curling up endearingly and letting out a huff as he relaxed. He looked ready to sleep, but his lidded eyes remained open and flicked occasionally from you to the alien now approaching where you were seated.
"These are the fruits you can eat," he said, apparently still very tickled by what he'd caught you doing earlier. Fine, if it made him that happy then you supposed you'd just have to accept the blow to your pride. You were glad your limited brain cell count amused him.
“Excellent,” you said, wriggling in your seat somewhat excitedly. “I’m starving. They’ve banned me from the kitchens, you know. It’s only for a week and it’s only been a day but it’s rough, man.”
Jimin looked like he was trying very hard not to burst into laughter, a somewhat incredulous yet unsurprised expression morphing his features. “You got banned from the kitchens? What on Kilkea did you do? You practically live there.”
“I know,” you sighed, scratching the back of your neck as you averted your gaze. “They got sick of me walking in all the time. Apparently it interrupts their groove.”
Jimin’s head tilted, but he looked like he wasn’t going to question it. Admittedly, you felt a bit insulted. You couldn’t tell him that the real reason you’d been banned was because you kept singing and nearly set the entire kitchen ablaze when you attempted to make earth cookies yesterday, though. So there you sat, accepting it as his opinion of you no doubt grew more comfortable where it sat at rock bottom.
Jimin placed the cups onto the table, taking his seat more gracefully than you anticipated after nearly falling and impaling your knee on the corner yourself. Well, some people were just born graceful, you supposed. You don’t know whether he saw the nervous way you eyed the fruits or whether he was just so used to you by now that he knew you were kind of useless, but he took a fruit—purple-tinged and very juicy looking—and went about peeling it much like you would a mandarin, before plopping it before you on the table and picking up one for himself.
Delighted and perhaps a little too eager to taste the fruit considering its insides were blue, you picked it up and broke it into the sections it naturally grew in. It wasn’t long before the first piece was in your mouth, teeth piercing it and causing tart, but overall sweet flavour to sink into your tongue. A surprised noise left you before you could stop it, quickly followed by a hum of approval in explanation. Jimin hid his smile by shoving a piece of the fruit in his mouth too.
“If that’s the case, I am surprised it took you this long to get banned,” he mused, poking fun at you once more. You sent him a half-hearted glare, popping another slice in your mouth to resist firing back too quickly. The flavour of this fruit was quite addictive, actually. The perfect balance of sweet and sour, with no unsavoury aftertaste.
“Excuse me?” you blurted as soon as you swallowed your mouthful. “They love me in there, they’ve practically adopted me at this point. Jeonghan says I’m like a daughter to him.”
Jimin rolled his eyes but couldn’t help his smile. It seemed both of you were well-aware of the pastry-chef’s—who you’d actually originally thought was younger than you— overdramatic tendencies. “If Jeonghan adopted everyone he said he would, then this whole castle would be under his care.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at that, even hearing Meanie huff in amusement in the corner. “You’re not wrong.”
You were expecting Jimin to stay silent a little longer, having seen him pick up another piece of fruit, but he surprised you and spoke in the next moment, the piece still uneaten in his grasp.
“On that note, there is something I have to discuss with you.” Jimin’s eyes met yours as he slipped the fruit into his mouth. When you sent him a questioning look, he continued. “Jongin and Jongdae are no longer watching you.”
Oh, that was something you knew already. Your first instinct was to believe you were about to get into trouble—which didn’t seem unlikely, since the two guards weren’t shy about blaming you and your many escape attempts for the relief of their duties in watching you.
“Oh. Yep,” you bit your lip, a bit of nervous laughter trickling out. You wondered whether it would be a safer bet to play dumb about it. “I haven’t seen them in a while? Are they alright? I almost miss them.”
Jimin’s lips quirked like he was trying not to smile. “They are no longer watching you because I relieved them of that duty.”
You paused, trying to follow where he was going with this. Ah, so it was his doing? Okay. But were you in trouble or not…? He had better tell you soon, because you were about to break into a nervous sweat.
“Uh, do you want an apology?” you asked, risking a shot in the dark. Jimin blinked at you for a moment before a sudden laugh came tumbling out of him.
“No, there’s no need for an apology,” he managed through his chuckles. “At least, not to me. I am only mentioning it because you are still going to be under someone’s care, it just will not be theirs.”
“Okay, well, in that case I feel I should tell you that I might have needed ‘monitoring’ when I first got here, yeah, maybe, but now I’m perfectly fine wandering on my own! If you want I’ll even promise to bother Namjoon or Yoongi if I need help or something, but I don’t think I need—” you paused mid-defensive-rant, another thought occurring to you that seemed to override the first—a shred of fear wormed its way into your tone as you sought to verify your sudden concerns. “Wait, whose care?”
Jimin plucked another piece of fruit from the rest, plopping it into his mouth and answering you somewhat nonchalantly and without so much as a blink. “Mine.”
“Well I don’t want Seokjin’s—wait, what?” You were thankful you didn’t have anything in your mouth just then because you definitely would have choked on it in your shock. “C-come again?”
“You heard me,” Jimin said, a sly look to his eyes. His marks were flushed an all-too-cheeky plum. “You’re too slippery for me to delegate the task to anyone else, so I will be the one watching you. We only have one kitchen, after all, we can’t afford to have it in flames.”
Your cheeks flushed suddenly with heat, the sensation of more of the humiliating type than the flustered. Oh, so he already knew of yesterday’s escapades. Oops. Still, that aside, you were already struggling to come to terms with what he’d told you. He was going to be watching you from now on? Like, in person? Or in a more ‘eyes in the walls’ kind of way? You didn’t know which was worse, to be honest. Was this the end of your freedom? Wait, but on the flip side…. More time spent with Jimin. Holy crap, you probably shouldn’t have been as excited as you were beginning to feel. Down, you swatted the butterflies in your stomach, down girls!
“O-oh,” you managed, still attempting to regulate the mess that had suddenly exploded in your brain. You didn’t have enough mental RAM for this. “I see. Well…”
In a desperate bid to claim back your cool and swagger, you plopped another piece of fruit in your mouth and raised your brows. Poor timing, but it seemed your dignity defence system had been activated.
“Good luck to you, then! I won’t be tied down! I will remain as slippery as ever and I’ll wish you luck in your efforts to catch me—fruitless, as they will be!”
And then you smacked your fingers on the table, grabbing the cup and taking a hearty sip. For all the bravado you’d just shown, you felt any semblance of normalcy you’d just mustered go flying out the window when you caught Jimin’s gaze and saw the challenge simmering in their depths, his marks tinted jade.
Well, maybe you should have waited until after tea time to challenge the Kelkie who was much, much faster and stronger than you.
“So that’s what he said, right, and yet… here I am! I’m too good, I didn’t even leave a trail for him to follow! He should have known better than to think he could catch me… pfft.”
At the silence that followed your words, you paused in your current activity and turned to the male beside you, who in turn simply stood and blinked at you for a moment. Expectantly, you allowed him a moment to muster a response.
“So… you didn’t want to be stuck under my care and yet here you are, chatting away with me the second you slip free of Jimin’s watch?” Seokjin asked, expression telling you he was attempting to understand your reasoning and coming up blank. For a moment, you yourself were stumped for a response—you hadn’t thought of it that way! Your idiot was showing— you made a quick recovery though.
“That was the only thing you got from all I told you?” you queried, before shaking your head and clicking your tongue. “Why do I even bother? I should have gone to annoy Yoongi instead.”
Seokjin seemed to be ignoring you—or at least, what you were saying. He continued like you hadn’t just said anything at all.
“Also, as someone who, and this is a direct quote, ‘wants to climb Jimin like a tree’ at every possible opportunity, isn’t running from him somewhat counterintuitive? I mean, you currently have the perfect excuse to be near him and you are bragging about running away…?” Seokjin’s head tilted, eyes squinting at you as his fingers played with the decorations currently in his hold. He’d made far more progress with his side of the wall than you had, considering you’d spent more time talking than hanging. It was something your teachers had always commented on in school, so you weren’t that surprised in honesty.
You sputtered, several holes having been poked ruthlessly and mercilessly in your logic and your pride. Seokjin, the poker, seemed somewhat pleased at your current stuttering state. As the pokee in this situation, you were anything but pleased.
“What? No! It’s not counterintuitive!” you warbled, grabbing one of the decorative pieces and slapping it onto some adhesive on the wall. You felt your cheeks heat, shoulders pinching up in embarrassment. “Shut up!”
Even while facing in another direction, you could feel Seokjin as he rolled his eyes.
“Always asking for the flame when she cannot even handle the heat, tsk tsk tsk,” Seokjin uttered, taking the opportunity to click his tongue at you. You bristled but couldn’t form a response, considering he was right. Humiliatingly, despite all your efforts to get closer to Jimin, now that you finally had the perfect excuse to be around him all the time, it was like too much all at once. You were just one woman! And a horny one at that. The people around here should know better than to take the randy things that come out of your mouth at face value.
“I CAN HANDLE IT!” Your outburst was somewhat indignant and left you feeling somewhat like a child, but you didn’t have time to dwell on it. “Just… after an adjustment period. I suddenly went from nothing of something to a lot of something! Give me a break, man, I’ve only got a few cells left up here and they’re on their last legs.”
Seokjin hummed, narrowing his eyes at your head. “I did think that I heard less rattling up there than usual.”
Resisting the urge to hiss at him, you soothed your hackles and decided to change the topic to something that didn’t threaten to give you a heart attack or death-by-shame. “Also, when am I going to be allowed to know about this all-secret event that’s taking place? It’s been so long! And I’m helping you set up, so it must be soon. Surely not all of these people are here helping set up without even knowing…?”
Seokjin didn’t even blink as he responded. “Oh, they know. Actually, you’ve been allowed to know for a while… I think at this point you’re the only one that doesn’t know.”
You blinked, squinting as his words sunk in. “Hey—what? That’s not fair! Why can’t I know? Seokjin! Tell me!”
Mirth played in the kelkie’s eyes as he shot you a look from the side, marks flushed playful lilac. “No way. It’s much more amusing letting you sit and wonder.”
You stared at him, mouth open in shock. This jerk was really just going to let you sit and rot, huh?! Something akin to betrayal began to fill you, a petulant glare slipping onto your face.
“Seokjin!” It was meant to be reprimanding but it came out more like a whine. “Come on, please tell me? I deserve to know! Especially considering it’s just—it’s only—how far away is it, again?”
“It’s in a little less than a week’s time,” Seokjin answered easily, adhering another of the decorations to the wall. They were pretty little things, thin and about the size of your palm but they felt like slices of crystal and glimmered as you would expect such an item to. “You’re actually expected to attend. I believe Joy has even procured a dress for you and has plans for your hair.”
“Oh, I’m invited?” Momentarily touched, you couldn’t help the turn your thoughts took, a smile slipping onto your face before you remembered your stance and wiped it off. “That’s so nice of y—wait! If I’m going then I need to know what the event actually is, Seokjin! Please tell me!”
As you might have predicted, the kelkie was having far too much fun teasing you to be anywhere close to telling you what you want to know. He snorted as he went about sticking another decoration up, pausing afterwards to scan the room and check up on the other decorating jobs being completed by palace workers. When his eyes got to you and looked over how behind you were, he frowned.
“Isn’t the element of the unknown such a thrilling thing, though?” he asked, clearly making fun of you still. “Besides, you don’t need to know to have fun—”
“Seokjinnnnn,” you were outright whining now, the remainder of your dignity having fled you where you stood on top of a stool in one of the great halls in the palace. You wanted to know so badly—for weeks you’d been wondering what was going on! By this point you were growing a little desperate. “Please? Please tell me? Oh please please please—”
Seokjin rolled his eyes and cut you off before your dramatic arm motions could make you fall off the stool. “What do I get out of telling you, though? Currently I’m getting a lot of entertainment out of not telling you, so why should I give that up?”
You gaped at him, bastard!
“You jerk!” you exclaimed, before quickly thinking better of it and backtracking. “Okay, fine. If you tell me I’ll… uh… I’ll stop visiting the kitchens and making a mess all the time.”
Seokjin gave you an amused look. “I know you’ve already been banned from there.”
With a groan of frustration, you threw your hands into the air, just barely catching your balance before you toppled. “Fine! I’ll—I’ll stop wasting your time and calling for you whenever I get bored! I’ll call, I don’t know… I’ll call Yoongi instead.”
Seokjin’s head tilted as he pondered the offer, mulling it over carefully. A moment later he flashed you a smile. “Not the best but it is a start! I will tell you something in exchange for that promise—I want you to promise me, by the way. Out loud. I know that you are slippery.”
You let out a huff, holding down the whines that wanted to escape. Something was better than nothing! If you had something to go off, you could just go and pressure someone else for the answer to the rest of it. With that in mind, you squashed down the minor offence that rose at the fact your reputation as ‘slippery’ had preceded you to such an extent, and forced out the words that would get you what you wanted.
“Do… I have to?” You let out a breath from the effort, wincing. It went against your nature to verbally trap yourself! You had a phobia of contracts!
“Yes.” Seokjin said, deadpan. “Repeat after me, ‘Seokjin, I promise that I will never again call you when—‘”
“Never?!” you interjected, appalled. “Isn’t that a bit hasty—”
“Do you want to know?” the male cut you off, brows raised. He rested a hand on his hip and the sudden movement of his body made the inky locks atop his head shift, flopping across his forehead. “If so, say it.”
Pushing down the remainders of your pride was more difficult than usual, but somehow you managed it. Grumbling, you smacked another decoration onto the wall, watching it fall to the floor in disdain because there wasn’t enough adhesive.
“Fine. Seokjin, I promise that I will never again call you when I am bored. I will… call someone else… instead…”
It might have been like he was trying to bleed water from a rock, but Seokjin couldn’t have looked more smug or pleased with himself—even despite how admittedly lacklustre your promise was.
“Excellent!” he cheered, smearing more adhesive on the wall and pasting a decoration where you had attempted to just moments ago. “Now, do know that if you go back on your word it is a punishable offence. I’m thinking…” He tapped his chin, eyes averted in thought as his marks shimmered blue. “No pudding for at least three months.”
Despite the fact it was only a threat and you weren’t actually being punished with that, you felt panic well up within you. Damn, he’s good. You gulped. “I-I won’t… Don’t you even know me, Seokjin? My honour… my integrity…. Renowned across the galaxy.”
Seokjin rolled his eyes so heavily you worried for a split second they were going to drop from his skull. “Of course. As we all know.”
You huffed, taking it in stride considering he was about to finally tell you what you’d been wanting to know for weeks now. Making a rare wise choice, you decided to clamp your mouth shut and wait for Seokjin to enlighten you. It seemed to work in your favour, as Seokjin too is a man that enjoys talking and the second you provided a conversational gap for him he was inclined to fill it.
“It’s for the King and Queen,” Seokjin said, placing some adhesive on the wall in front of you in an unspoken prompt to get back to work. “They’re back from their leave soon, but that’s not the only reason we are celebrating.”
Seokjin turned, meeting your gaze with a fond look in his eye coupled with a hint of excitement, both of which you presumed were directed at the royal couple. “They’re expecting, you see, and since the Queen is human, it has broken an unfortunate cycle that has plagued the royal line for centuries. After what happened to the King’s late parents… the people are overjoyed they won’t have to see that again.”
Curiousity instantly bubbled and burned within you, but at the same time…. You almost felt like it wasn’t your place to ask about whatever happened. It didn’t affect you, so you reasoned you should probably leave it for now. Besides, you felt like you’d find out eventually. Instead, you focused your thoughts onto the other parts of what he’d told you. Piece by piece, it sunk in.
“I almost forgot the Queen is human,” you muttered, filling space while your brain processed—it finished barely a moment later and you looked to Seokjin with wide eyes as realisation smacked you in the face several times. “Wait, she’s pregnant?! But they’re—so humans and kelkies can—?!”
Amused, and looking like he apparently expected a reaction like this from you, Seokjin snorted. “Well, we weren’t sure. But apparently so.”
“Huh. That’s really lovely, everyone must be super excited for them,” you said, a billion thoughts whirring through your mind at once. One made itself a little more known than the others, and an odd feeling filled your chest.
Seokjin seemed to tell you were attempting to try and word something, and gave you a moment to put it together. You couldn’t look him in the eye as you spoke, for once feeling oddly and uncharacteristically vulnerable.
“She chose to stay, then… Was it an easy choice?” You didn’t even know why you’d asked it, but it made it’s way out of your mouth nonetheless.
The kelkie gave you a curious look, but otherwise didn’t question you. “Well, for her… She wasn’t going to, at first. There were a few other crucial factors that influenced her decision, for a while. But ultimately, once they cleared… she chose what was going to make her happiest. I recall she once told me she felt surprisingly at home, here. Not long after arriving, she found herself wanting to stay.”
At his words, you weren’t sure how you were supposed to feel. Your entire life there has been something in a constant state of unrest within you. You’ve hopped from job to job, world to world, life to life. None have fit, and none have soothed that flighty feeling inside any better than the last. You almost grow tired of it; sometimes you’ve found yourself wondering if this is how you’re going to live the remainder of your years, never settling, never finding somewhere you feel truly at home. Earth was where you were born, but it wasn’t a home to you. None of the groups you’d ever found your way to had ever felt like the perfect fit. You’ve never once felt inclined to stay at the places you have been, or entertained the notion past that of a stray thought.
But his words gave you pause, because for the first time in your life the feeling inside you had changed, and you were beginning to realise its new form.
It was in such stark contrast to who you knew yourself to be, that it actually frightened you, a little. This feeling had a few names and you were afraid to utter any of them.
“You’ve been a lot of places across the galaxy, lived many different ways,” Seokjin’s head tilted, eyes soft, inquisitive. “Was there nowhere that you found yourself wishing to stay?”
Of course, it would be perfectly in character for you to fire back something witty and funny, but you felt oddly vacant, for the barest moment. You met his gaze without thinking, and wondered if he could see the vulnerability as it revealed itself bit by bit within you.
“No, there wasn’t anywhere I wanted to stay.” You paused, swallowing. “But, I mean, being capricious is kind of my thing, you know? I gotta stay on brand.”
Seokjin smiled, before shaking his head.
“It is okay to want to stay, you know. You don’t even have to have a reason.” The male’s eyes were kind as they met your own, and you felt your chest clench. “There is a place for you here, if you decide you want it.”
His words touched you, but in the process stirred up an entire storm of untouched thoughts and emotions within you, the type that blended in together and blurred the lines that bound them. You were nowhere near ready to delve into them right now. Ignoring the surprising prick in your eyes, you shot him a smile. “Thank you for that, Seokjin. I… I think I will just need to think on it.”
He nodded, soft look remaining before it took a different turn and his marks flushed playful blue. His gaze was on you, before it caught something over your shoulder and his eyes widened incrementally. He schooled his expression so quickly after that you weren’t sure if it had actually happened. “Don’t think too hard on it, though. You’ll overwork the few cells that you have left.”
At the return of the bickering air you were so familiar with, you slipped right back into it with ease—anything to distract from the thoughts he’d unearthed with his kind words. “Excuse me? There mightn’t be many of them but they pull their weight! My brain cells might be overworked and underpaid but damn it if they don’t get the job done—”
You were ready to keep going, you really were, you had about thirty seconds more content to burn through, but in the worst plot twist of the century you didn’t get to continue. So quickly you almost didn’t see it, Seokjin shifted in his stance on the floor, bracing one hand on the wall. You didn’t even have time to finish wondering why before you found out—the hard way.
Too quick to counter, Seokjin’s foot flew out, making harsh contact with the stool you were precariously perched on. Immediately, inevitably, you were sent tumbling and the bucket of adhesive and decorations on your arm was sent flying off to god knew where. Truly, your hubris in wanting to stand in a cool pose on the stool was to blame for how unsteady and ready to fall you were.
A few things happened rapidly; first, you fell through the air, narrowly saved from a humiliating death-by-head-bump by Seokjin’s lightning fast reflexes. He ended up catching you in a pose that reminded you of when you were dancing with someone and they dipped you—your hair was probably brushing the floor, and Seokjin’s face was much, much closer than you ever expected to see it. Second, there was the loud sound of your stool clattering onto the ground. Third, there was a round of gasps that you figured sounded because you fell.
Well, it wouldn’t be the first time you were wrong in assuming everything was about you.
You blinked, the realisation that Seokjin knocked you off the stool sinking in and instantly riling you up—you were about to open your mouth and chew him out when a third, and final, sound echoed through the room. A sharp CLANG, and then the distinct sound of hollow metal rolling across the floor. It gave you pause, the sound occurring much later than it should have—it should have dropped straight to the ground, right?
A sense of dread beginning to curl within you, you dared to turn your head and peer to the side, where your back had been facing earlier. At once, you realised you were dead.
The alien love of your life stood in the doorway to the room, a mere few metres away, which should make you either giddy or overjoyed, but it was the sight of gooey adhesive dripping thickly down his face from where it had pooled in his hair that prevented such a reaction. Your bucket rolled around by his feet, some decorations joining it on the ground and others stuck in the glue that was quickly becoming acquainted with Jimin’s entire front.
His eyes had been closed, presumably on reflex, but they opened after a hand rose to wipe the thick goo from them—thankfully, it hadn’t reached his actual eyes. The dark pools flitted about the room before landing on you; his marks stained dark, dark red, and after scanning your form and witnessing the debacle around you, turned deep, murky green.
You might have been stupid, but even you knew when death was about to grab you in its clutches. You scrambled, trying to get out of Seokjin’s grip but failing miserably—oh, so he’s your executioner, huh? Bastard. And right after you bonded, too.
“y/n.” You jolted like you’d been electrocuted, eyes whipping back to Jimin; something burned in his gaze that made your stomach drop and legs wobble, even while he was covered in goo. He took two slow, long steps until he was close enough that just the three of you could hear him speak—his voice when he did, low and raspy as it was, made you shiver. “My room. Midmoon, tonight. If you are not ready then the punishment for making such a mess of preparations for such an important event will worsen. Don’t force my hand on that, petal.”
His gaze bore into you for a long, potent moment after he spoke, before it flicked to where Seokjin had his hold on you, jaw clenching so hard you saw his temple shift. Eyes harder and burning more intensely than before, he delivered you one last look—a very decidedly pissed one—before he turned on his heel and stalked from the room, beginning to wipe away adhesive as he went.
For a few seconds after he disappeared, you simply hung in place, in a state of shock. The sound of Seokjin’s amused snort brought you back, however, and instantly you recalled exactly who was to blame for your newly scheduled death.
“You rat,” you hissed, glaring at him. “How could you?! Now I’m going to die! Oh you know what, if I hadn’t just promised yo—OW! SEOKJIN!”
Mercilessly, the male released his hold, you dropped, and an instant pain shot through your behind. Why was it that you were always falling on your ass in this palace?! God! It hurts so damn much!
“The day is coming to an end, y/n,” Seokjin said, straightening and looking very much unapologetic and entirely too humoured. “You better go get ready.”
Realising just how late into the afternoon it had gotten, you scrambled to your feet, panicked and affronted. Deciding you couldn’t afford to stay and bicker if you were going to flee the solar system in time, you settled for a glare and flipped Seokjin the bird, uncaring whether he understood it.
“I hate you!” you exclaimed as you turned and started to flee. “I’m ending this friendship, Seokjin! After this don’t even look at me, traitor!”
Seokjin’s rare, squeaky laughter breached the air as you left, the sound chasing you down the hall mockingly.
If you didn’t die tonight, you were going to kill him for trying to kill you.

I Found- Chapter 1
A/N: Hey folks! This is little visit to the past in honour of the one year anniversary of Extraction and this fic itself. As of tomorrow, I will post two to three chapters A DAY until all are up. I know they’re a mess on my blog right now and people who don’t want to go to Ao3 can’t find all the chapters. I was going to thoroughly edit, but I thought ‘why not leave it as is?’. It’s a little more than 365 days old now and a lot has changed for both the characters and my writing itself. As my long time readers and supporters can tell you :). So keep in mind, this was my first foray into writing Tyler and it’s rough and it’s a little...not the me I am now...but it’s a fun ride, IMO.
Fandom: Extraction
Pairing: Tyler Rake and Esme Rake (Original Female Character)
Face Claims: Chris Hemsworth (obviously) and Rachel Bilson
Premise: Broken and bleeding. Weathered and in tatters. Two damaged and weary souls find one another when they least expect it. Wrong place, wrong time. Yet both powerless to stop it.
Summary: Eleven months after the events in Dhaka and his near death experience, Tyler Rake is a new man. A different man. Struggling with the demons of his past while balancing being a husband and a father.

It's been just shy of twelve months and his instincts are still keen; nerves rash and fresh, body and mind always on high alert. The proof to the old adage that old habits really do die hard.
A journey to the very brink of death. Weeks of lying in a hospital bed teetering on the threshold of this life and the next. Countless agonizing hours of rehab and physical therapy just to relearn the basics and get back onto his weary and battered feet. Once he was home nothing had been able to slow him down. He threw everything he had into healing. Every ounce of mind, body, and spirit. Pushing himself past the warnings and the limits that the doctors and specialists had set for him. Ignoring the advice on not to push himself too hard, too fast. He felt as if he didn't have a choice. He no longer just had himself to worry about; another human being with one on the way that was relying on him. Depending on him to take care of them. Provide for them. Protect them. So he had pushed himself to the brink of both exhaustion and physical and emotional collapse. Eventually finding himself back at at the gym and packing on the weight and muscle. Anxious for some semblance of the man he used to be.
He hears the soft rustle of blankets though the monitor on the nightstand and his eyes immediately snap open. Sleep was a strange beast for him these days. Nights where he could fall into a peaceful slumber and stay there until sunlight was streaming through the window, others where the pain was all encompassing and nauseating and he couldn't get comfortable, and those where he was haunted by the demons of his past. The latter didn't come nearly as often as they did before; managing to find some hint of internal peace with the things he had done and witnessed. Once in a while he'd find himself back on that bridge; assaulted by the smells of gun powder and lead. The acrid taste of blood on his lips. And he'd hear her voice and feel her hands; the way she cradled his face in them, the way she'd pulled his nearly lifeless body tight against her, felt those tears that fell on his skin. Thankfully he'd awaken and quickly discover that he was in the safety and comfort of his own home. His own bed. And he'd watch her as she slept; the way the moonlight painted her smooth skin in an ethereal glow and the slight smile that tugged at the corners of her mouth. He'd watch her and listen to her breathe and he'd remind himself of just how far he had come. Gratitude spreading through him like a slow burning fire. Thankful for the second chance that he'd been given. For the love that he'd found during one of the darkest and most difficult periods of his life. She'd given him a reason. A purpose. And he wasn't going to take that for granted.
He groans as he rolls over onto his back. The pain isn't as bad tonight. There were times he could barely even move. Where the agony made him dizzy and nauseous and even the simplest of tasks seemed impossible to preform. Tonight it's a dull ache; a nagging pain that has settled deep into his bones and his joints but he has learned to deal with. Placing his hands behind his head, he waits and listens. The lights from the monitor dancing across the ceiling as life stirs in the room across the hall. He's gotten used to it; the little noises, the soft sighs, the slight fussing before she settles herself back to sleep. It wasn't his first rodeo after all; not his first foray into fatherhood. But it is the first time he's been able to be more hands on. Put his be all and end all into the nurturing. And this time he knows he will get it right. He's determined to make amends for the mistakes of his past. Moving on didn't mean forgetting. It didn't mean that the love and regret and the guilt weren't still there, lingering just under the surface. Sometimes the greatest homage to the dead was how the living continued. How they made up for the bad decisions they made and how those decisions had...in the end...helped shape them into a better person.
The sounds through the monitor continue and he sits up, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and giving his body and brain time to adjust to full consciousness. Running his hands through his hair and over his tired face, fingers brushing against the various scars that serve as a lasting memory of his former life. A pair of sweats sit in a discarded pile by the bed and he reaches for them; softly muttering profanities at the various cracks and pops that his body makes at the simple task of pulling on his pants. Scar tissue, arthritis, remnants of shrapnel and bullets that couldn't safely be removed. All working together to be a complete pain in his ass. His wife moves behind him. Sighing loudly and contently as she rolls over onto her side. Not waking as her hand instinctively reaching out for him; finger tips brushing against his back just as he stands up.
He is out the door and in the hall before the first shrill cry erupts. Yawning and stretching noisily as he steps into the nursery. A cheerful room with soft yellow walls, pink, white, and purple stripped curtains and natural wood furniture. Teddy bears and dolls staring down at him from the perches on the shelves on the wall, accompanied by framed photos of baby animals and Disney characters. He'd never pictured himself a 'girl dad'; frilly dresses and the tiny socks with the lace around the ankles, and the little headbands that served no other purpose than being cute. He was rough and tumble. Always had been, even from an early age. So when he'd found out he was having a daughter he'd been terrified. He didn't know the first thing about taking care of little girls and doing their hair and healing their broken hearts. And for the first time in his life was actually scared of something. Or someone. A being that hadn't even been born yet but was already making a huge impact on his life.
“You'll be fine,” his wife had assured him when he'd expressed his concern. Watching from the couch as she stood at the kitchen table folding laundry. Including a newly purchased outfit and those tiny teeny socks that she had purchased just hours ago. She was so beautiful. Standing there with that chestnut hair tumbling down to her waist, her belly swollen with their child. HIS child. A child that had been conceived in the midst of all the chaos and uncertainty. “You've ridden this particular bike before,” she'd reminded him. “This isn't your first time going through this.”
“That was different. That was a boy. This is a girl. This is dresses and pig tails and tea parties and make up and other boys.”
“Tyler, that's years down the road. You can't worry about that stuff. Make up and boys? You can't dwell on what she's going to be like when she's a teenager.”
“I sure bloody well can. Because knowing my luck she'll end up just like her mother. Full of piss and vinegar and all kinds of trouble.”
“You always did know how to get yourself into heaps of it,” she'd smirked, and tossed a pair of balled up socks in his direction, just missing his head. “But you always managed to get yourself out of it too.”
“I knew you were trouble from the very second I met you, you know,” he'd said, as he got off the couch and wandered over to where she was so diligently working. Liking the way that simple white gold wedding band looked on her finger. He still hadn't gotten used to; it had only been a few months and even with that life growing in her belly, they were still very much enjoying being newlyweds. He liked it. Being a husband. He liked the simplicity and the comforts that came with the little things that took up their new life. Household chores and preparing meals and sharing a bed with the same warm body and beautiful face each and every day. Mundane to some. A welcome change and relief to him.
“I wasn't the one with the reputation for being difficult,” she'd reminded him. “I wasn't the one who was like a bear with a sole asshole even on his best days.”
“Yet here you are. Playing house with me. A good little wife. Giving me babies. So I must have done something right, huh?” he'd playfully nudged her with his elbow. “You stuck around. Through thick or thin. I put you through a lot of shit and agony and here you are. Here WE are.”
“You can't get rid of me that easily, Tyler Rake. You think you would have realized that by now.”
“Getting rid of you is the last thing I ever want.”
They'd stood in companionable silence; working quickly and efficiently together. Little boring tasks that they almost never got to experience. He'd never take things like that for granted again. And he'd grabbed a pair of her underwear from the fresh pile and hooking them around his finger, grinned as he swung them around.
“How'd we ever graduate to these, huh? These are not what I remember you wearing. You weren't wearing any the first time we...well...you know...”
“You're such a pig,” she'd grumbled, and tried to snatch them away. Frowning when he held them high above his head. Not an easy reach for a woman that only stood five foot three. “What is wrong with you? Seriously.”
“I thought you were trouble the second I met you. The way you shook my hand. The way you smiled at me. But I knew it for sure when I had you pinned against that wall and I put my hand down your shorts and realized that you weren't any underwear. Remember that? That first time? I knew I was in trouble but I didn't want to stop. I couldn't stop. I was surprised you were such a kinky little thing.”
“You've got issues. What is your major malfunction?”
“Nothing wrong with a little visit to the past. Especially when it involves being naked.”
“Would you stop?” she'd perched herself on her tip toes and frantically tried to grab the offending piece of clothing from his grasp. “What's gotten into you?”
“It's what hasn't gotten into you in a while,” he'd retorted, laughing when she'd directed a slap to his gut, his arms circling her waist when she'd lost her balance and tumbled into him. And they'd stood like that; her head against his chest, his eyes closed and his chin resting on the top of her head. Loving all those things about her that had become so familiar and comforting to him. The lingering scent of coconut shampoo that clung to her hair, the feel of her heart beating against him, those small and soft hands stroking up and down his back. This woman...the one that had seen him at his most fragile...who he owed his life to.
Her hands were on the back of his shoulders when she'd pulled away and looked up at him. Her eyes sparkling as she smiled. A smile he had once thought he'd never see again.
“I love you,” he'd told her. Three words that he had always hesitated on uttering before but now couldn't say enough. If Gaspar was still around he'd call him soft. Tell him he was whipped and a pussy and needed to get his balls back. But he wasn't around anymore.
A lot of people weren't.
“I know,” she'd said. “But not nearly as much as I love you.”
“Hey, this isn't a competition. And if it was, I'd win. I always do.”
“You have a very overinflated sense of yourself,” she'd chided.
He was her rock. He knew that. Even when he was still recovering and he was nothing more than a mere fraction of the man he once was. Even when she had to help nurse him back to health and he'd had to trust her completely with even the mundane things like feeding himself and brushing his teeth. But she'd stuck by him. Even when he felt humiliated that he even needed help with such things. Embarrassed that she was seeing him so vulnerable. Allowing her to see his tears of anger, frustration, and pain. She'd always said that he was the only one that made her feel safe and secure. Protected. Even when he wasn't at his best.
“Shit...” She'd grimaced when the baby had kicked her especially hard. Eyes closing and her forehead falling onto his chest.
“Even I felt that one.” He’d e'd move one hand from her waist to her ever growing stomach. Marvelling at the way he could feel their baby...his baby...moving inside of her. It may not have been his first time. Not his first child. But he was determined to enjoy every second of it and not take a single moment for granted. “See what I mean? Trouble just like her mom. Feisty as all hell. A boy wouldn't cause this many issues.”
“Boys come with a whole shit load of issues. After all, it was a boy that got me into this situation in the first place.”
“Come on now, I wasn't the only one that was having all the fun. You seemed to be enjoying yourself too. I didn't make this baby all on my own, you know.”
“It was fun,” she'd admitted. “It always is.”
“Yeah. It most definitely is.”
One of her hands came down to rest on top of his and they stood there together, feeling their child moving inside of her. Marvelling at all the kicks and wriggles. At the miracle that they had created. All because two people fell in love during the entirely wrong time and in the entirely wrong place.
“You need to take it easy there, sweetheart,” he'd spoken to his daughter, his hand moving in slow, comforting circles. “Go easy on your mum, okay? Daddy's already put her through enough to last a lifetime.”
“She listens to you already. She likes your voice.”
“Already takes after her mother. Isn't that one of the first things you said you liked about me? My voice?”
“It does funny things to my insides. Even now.”
“I like doing funny things to your insides,” he'd dropped a kiss on the top of her head and she'd looked up at him once again.
“I think we should go to bed.”
“It's only eight thirty.”
“I don't mean to sleep. I mean to do other things. Fun things. Things that help you sleep better.”
A slow grin had spread across his face.
He didn't need to be told twice.
*******
“What's going on in here?” he asks as he steps alongside the crib, where his tiny baby girl has managed to to shed herself of her tight swaddling and was preparing to whip herself up into a frenzy. She has his temper already; slow to anger but almost impossible to control once the fuse was fully lit. “What kind of trouble are you getting up to in here? How'd you get yourself into such a mess? Clever little thing, aren't you.”
The crying dies down. Settling down to a mere whimper. She recognizes her daddy's voice. His face. And she knows she's in good hands. The wailing replaced by an impossibly dramatic pout on someone so young.
“You really are your mother's daughter,” he says. “I recognize that look anywhere. How does a little one like you get yourself into trouble? Look at you...” he untangles the receiving blanket from between her legs and scoops her up from the crib. Lifting her to the safe and warm confines of his chest. A forearm supporting her bum, his palm on the back of her head. “It's okay now,” he croons, and presses a kiss to the side of her head. She has his hair; same texture and colour. His eyes. Even his nose and lips. He can hear his wife now. Complaining about doing all the leg work and going through all the pain, only to have the baby coming out looking just like him. “Daddy's here now. Everything is fine. You're okay now.”
After a quick diaper change, he carries her through the apartment and into the kitchen. That tiny little body laying perfectly along his forearm as he warms a bottle from the fridge. She fits so perfect in the crook of his arm; head nestled into the valley on his elbow, feet by his wrist. She's long. Lanky. Just like he'd been as a kid. “You're probably wondering why I'm out here doing this,” he speaks as he waits for the bottle to warm. “You know this is usually your mummy's thing. Getting up in the middle of the night. And I know she doesn't exactly use these silly things to feed you. But I thought we'd be nice and let her sleep. She does a lot for us, you know. She deserves to sleep.”
He sits on the couch as he feeds her; both feet on the coffee table, knees bent with her lying along his thighs. One hand holding the bottle and the fingers of the other exploring every inch of her. She is wondrous; big blue eyes and impossibly long dark lashes and freckles across the bridge of her nose. And has he talks to her in a deep and soothing tone, her gaze is focused intently on him. Eyes never leaving his, one of her tiny hands reaching for the hand that holds the bottle, all fingers curling around just one of his. He had forgotten what this was like. The pure magic of being a father. Knowing that you had helped create something so incredible. That you had played a part in bringing another human being into this world.
As crazy and fucked up as the world could be, that is. It gave him a sense of peace. The knowledge that when the end came, he'd go knowing that he had done something truly good and valuable with his life.
He stands and carries her over to the balcony window. Once again holding her with a forearm under her bum and a firm hand on the back of his head. “You see that out there...” he nods towards the skyline; twinkling lights of skyscrapers and glowing street lights and blazing stars. “...that can be a real scary place. There's a lot of really bad people out there. But there's a lot of really good people too. People that would protect you, no questions asked. People that already love you without even really knowing you. And somewhere out there, is some guy that's going to come into your life and probably break your heart. And you know what? That's okay. It's okay to get your heart broken. Because it makes you a better person. It makes you stronger. Even if you think it's going to kill you at the time.”
She stares up at him with those huge blue eyes. With so much wonder and trust that it it causes a lump of emotion to gather in his throat and blur his vision.
“You know, there was almost a time where this might not have happened. Where I might not have been here. Where it might have just been you and your mom. And if it wasn't for your mom, I probably wouldn't be here. She's something else, you know. She's the bravest and strongest person I've ever met in my entire life. And there were so many times where this could have been too much for her...where I could have been too much for her...and she could have just walked away. But she never did. She never gave up on me. Even when I was ready to give up on myself. She's the one you need to worry about, you know. She jokes around that I'm going to be the one that scares all the boys away but I have a feeling it's going to be her. She doesn't let anyone mess with the people she loves. She's a momma bear. She's ferocious and she's loyal and she will f...” he bites his tongue “...mess someone up if she needs to. I was even kind of scared of her when I first meet her. Not because she's scary looking or I was afraid she'd hurt me. Mind you, she probably could if she got mad enough. Like how she gets when I leave the toilet seat up in the middle of the night. She scared me because I'd never felt that way about anyone. At least not that quickly. You can be the strongest person in the world, but when that one person comes along, you can't stop it. No matter if the timing isn't right. No matter how screwed up things are. Even if it is the wrong place, wrong time. You're powerless. Your heart just takes over. The important thing you have to remember is that you let your heart and your head work at the same time. That's the only way things will be okay. Or at least that's how it worked for your mom and I.”
He adjusts his hold on her, bringing her up to rest against his chest. Fingers combing through her thick, silky hair, his other hand softly stroking her back.
“Your mom came into my life when I'd pretty much given up on everything. When I didn't even feel human any more. Where nothing mattered. She came into my life and rescued me. In every way a person can rescue someone. And I know she'll probably deny that if you ask her. She'd say that I'm the brave one. That I'm the one that rescues people. But she had the toughest job out of them all. I'm not the easiest person to love. And she knew that. Yet here she is. A year later and she's still sticking around. Still putting up with my crap. So I must be doing something right, yeah? She hasn't smothered me with a pillow in my sleep or put poison in my food or put a hit out on me.”
“You just had to ruin the moment,” that soft voice says from behind, and he watches her reflection through the window as she journeys over to them. Chestnut hair messy from sleep and falling loose to the middle of her back. She is heavier now; softer and curvier in all the right places. Having a baby will do that to you. But she's still the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. Even more so decked out in one of his shirts; the fabric hanging to well below her knees, sleeves rolled and bunched just about her elbows. “What are you two doing? It's late. Or really early. Depending on how you look at it.”
“We're just having a little daddy daughter bonding time.”
She squints her eyes and peers at the clock on the nearby wall. “It's ten after three.”
“Time means nothing when you have a baby. She doesn't know what time it is. And I barely sleep, so...”
“So what does this bonding time consist of? Shit talking me?”
“I only said that last part because I knew you were behind me. I said all good things, I swear. And I was telling her all my best stories.”
“Lord I really hope not,” she rubs his shoulders and presses a kiss to his back before sidling up beside him. “All your best stories are gory.”
“I'm saving those ones for when she's old enough to be able to kick someone in the balls if they're bothering her. So she doesn't have to rely on a brother to do it.”
“Not even two months into this and you're already contemplating another? Good luck doing that yourself. Let me know how it works out for you.”
The subject had come up once or twice. About whether or not this was a one off or there were other children in their future. After he'd lost his son and given up on life, he hadn't thought there'd be any other kids. It wasn't as if he lived the kind of life he'd be proud to bring a child into it. She'd been a complete surprise. They thought they'd been careful. Apparently they hadn't been careful enough.. But she wasn't a mistake. Far from it. A happy accident was more like it. Now that he'd gotten his feet wet again in the parenting pool, he was open to having more kids. He craved it, actually. Another two or three. And a modest house on a good parcel of land. Somewhere close to the beach. With a window that looked into the backyard that he could watch his children through. Where he could grow old and gray with the love of his life.
But he still had a lot of shit to deal with before any of that could happen.
She yawns loudly and steps in front of him; both arms wrapping around his waist she lays her head against him. “Are you okay?”
“Best I can be, I guess. Little sore. But what else is new.”
She just nods. She knows it goes beyond being 'a little sore'. She had seen the extent of his injuries. She'd lived out the horror right alongside of him. It had been his blood that soaked her that day on the bridge. But she also knows he isn't the type you fawn over. He doesn't like the attention. Feeling as if he's weak. Or that he may be a burden. He was still trying to get that confidence back. The ego takes a serious beating when you're left unable to do even the smallest of tasks for yourself. “You're having trouble sleeping?”
“When haven't I had trouble sleeping?”
“But it's worse now, isn't it. I know how many times you get up in the middle of the night. It's worse now.”
“Just a stage,” he assures her. “I'll be fine. How many times have we been through this, huh? How many times do I have to tell you not to worry about me?”
“A million. But I still won't listen.”
“That's never going to change,” he teases. “You didn't listen to me a year ago and you don't listen to me now. And you wonder why I say your daughter is going to be trouble.”
She grins up at him. “Why does she become just my daughter when you talk about trouble?”
“Because we both know who the real trouble maker is in this relationship,” he retorts, and presses a kiss to her forehead.
In silence they watch their daughter; the way her eyes shift between the two of them before slowing beginning to close, a yawn escaping her mouth. A surprisingly large one that ends in a tiny squeak. He's in awe of her. Of how tiny and fragile she is. How he'd managed to make something so amazing.
“She's beautiful,” he speaks around a lump of emotion that sits square in his throat. His emotions have been raw since that day in Dhaka. And even more so since becoming a father for a second time. He can hear Gaspar in his head again. Talking about how soft he was becoming. That he didn't even recognize him any more. That growing a heart this late in the game was going to be his biggest downfall and his most relentless enemy. “Like her mother.”
“She looks just like you.”
“I honestly don't see it,” he hopes he sounds a least a tad sincere.
His wife gives a derisive snort. “You have some seriously strong genes, Tyler Rake. Imagine if we had a boy? Probably be your splitting image. By the way...” she rubs his stomach and smiles up at him. “...you do the really big, strong man with a tiny baby thing very well. It's kind of sexy.”
“Just kind of? I was going for totally sexy. Insanely sexy. You might as well said mediocre sexy.”
“Don't expect me to stroke your ego at three in the morning.”
“Why not? Not like you've been stroking anything else lately.”
“Shhhh...” she places a finger over her lips. “...there's innocent ears in this room.”
“She's asleep. And even if she wasn't, she wouldn't understand what I was saying anyway. Besides, she's going to end up learning where she come from sooner or later.”
“Well let's make that later. Much later. And mediocre sexy? Really? As if you could ever be anything other than out of the world sexy.”
“You're lucky. I was going to have to file for divorce if you called me 'average sexy'.”
“You're too much,” she giggles, and dropping one of her arms from around his waist, runs the palm of her hand along the baby's hair. “And you're right. She is beautiful. She is perfect.”
“It's hard to believe sometimes, isn't it? That we made her? During all that craziness and all that madness, we actually made a life together. Surreal, huh? That something so beautiful could come out of all of that?”
“A lot of beautiful things came out of that. We just have a hard time recognizing what they are sometimes.”
He nods in agreement. Sniffling noisily and swallowing heavily when the weight of emotion becomes almost too much to bear. He's never had to hide this side of himself when it came to her. After all, she was the one who'd successfully bulldozed all of his walls to the ground. So it comes as no surprise to either of them when the tears finally do come; blazing hot against his skin, the taste of salt stinging his lips.
“Baby...” she turns to face him, reaching up to take his face in her hands. “...what's wrong? What...?”
“Nothing's wrong. I just...” he struggles to find the words, inhaling deeply and releasing a shaky breath. “...thank you...” he says. “...for her. For you. For us.”
“I think you played a pretty big part in her being here,” she reminds him. “It's not like I did this alone.”
“I don't deserve all of this. I don't deserve her. I don't deserve you. This...this life...” he shakes his head. “...this was meant for someone else. A better man than me.”
She chews pensively on her bottom lip and regards him through her own tears. He knows she won't let them come. She's been the one holding back lately. When they'd met, she'd been the high strung and overly emotional one. Always on edge. Waiting for the other shoe to drop. He'd been that calm, cool, and collected one. The one that held shit together when it threatened to blow apart. Talking her down off the ledge while trying to keep both of them...and eventually Ovi...alive. Since the baby she'd changed. Her motherly instincts and her love for their child could never be matched by anyone else. But she had closed herself off in other ways. She became the strong and silent one. The one who always held her emotions in check. He figured it was all that time she spent helping him get back on his feet. What she'd seen and had to endure would harden anyone.
But he'd be lying if he didn't say he wasn't concerned. If he didn't find himself wishing for that emotional and broken girl she'd once been.
She was out there. And he knew where.
She was still back in Dhaka.
Still standing on that bridge.
