Cinderella in Angelic Pretty

My mom asked me to dress up my nieces (my cousin's daughters) in cute outfits so she could take pictures of them. To hype them up, I took out my most princess-y dress and styled it in a Disney Cinderella way. Sadly, I was very tired that day, so I was only present for the prep/photos and immediately went back to bed.

Obviously, since my nieces are kids, I am not posting their photos here.

But here's a picture of my best princess, Madame Bissonnette.

So tonight something kind of hilarious happened.

My bff (blonde, cishet, married with 2 little kids, pillar of her church) and I (brunette, queer, raised in an evangelical cult but definitely something else now) were supposed to go on a spooky flashlight tour of a local historic cemetery tonight. But thanks to a series of incredibly shitty events, we didn't make our tour time, and bff ended up needing help to take her kids to a trunk or treat event instead.

Thing is, I had dressed for a hike among the headstones and a rare girls' night with the bestie. I was wearing mostly black (skater dress/leggings/boots) with the most spooky-adjacent accessories I had on hand (silver rings, rough amethyst pendant on a black cord, purple shimmer nail polish, purple hooded cape). I had done elaborate-for-me makeup, including pretty dark lipstick and smoky shimmery eyeshadow. My aesthetic for the evening was "witchy and queer, but comfortable to walk a long way in".

Trunk or treat was in the parking lot of bff's church.

So I got to stroll from SUV to SUV, past signs saying things like "Let's Taco Bout Jesus", herding a little girl dressed as Elsa from Frozen and a little boy dressed as a Ghostbuster, while bff pushed the stroller containing her baby (dressed as Charlie Brown) behind us. All while every adult we saw visibly recognized the kids, blinked at the sight of me, refocused on bff and her baby, then came back to me with a distinct air of "What the fudgesicles is going on here?"

I was more or less the walking embodiment of the Satanic Panic's boogeyman, shepherding two adorable children around the church festival while dressed like I sacrificed cats. I fully expected someone to suggest an exorcism. I was constantly teetering on the brink of a flashback to that time in college when someone tried to burn me for heresy.

And every time someone overcame their church manners to ask bff if everything was okay and whether she'd adopted a demon recently, she breezily replied, "Oh, this is my best friend Kat, we've known each other more than half our lives. She's dressed as Agatha Harkness, you know, from that new show on Disney Plus?"

(Aside from color palette and hair color, I didn't look ANYTHING like Agatha.)

And to a ONE, these people started singing "Agatha All Along" at me. The song from WandaVision.

They very obviously hadn't seen Agatha All Along, but were totally willing to accept me if I came with a catchy musical number.

Anyway, uh, thank you, Agatha All Along, for being mainstream enough that the religious-taco-pun crowd have heard of you and therefore decided I'm harmless by association.

Modern Belle

I'll be honest I'm pretty tired and disheartened at the moment. Still no job on the horizon, I appreciate every like and warm comment on my art on social media but wow am I tired of being stressed. So to cheer myself off and take a little bit more pressure off myself I decided to visit the characters who inspired me to keep all this running for over two years. The Heroines who got this whole ball rolling. But this time (so I do less research and can recharge a little) in modern clothing!!

For Belle I decided to lean into her book-obsession and keep her in the realm of a vintage-inspired "dark" academia fashion. Her long skirt, collared shirt, and most importantly her ribbed pullover/knit sweater with puffy sleeves. All in shades of off-gold. Which you tubers do you think she watches?

I don't wanna post pics of myself on here but I need to find someone to be as excited about this as me - I'm gonna be channeling Chris Knight for Halloween.

I'm gonna wear these guys

and unfortunately I'll be stuck at uni the whole day so I can't really go all out (and it's a bit last minute so I can't exactly replicate one of his movie outfits) but it's gonna be Chris in spirit and that's what matters.
