I love Pokemon RBY but they really did not give a shit about balance in gen 1
#musings#pokemon#everyone knows how strong gen 1 psychic types are but normal types are on the same level#because fighting types are miserable in rby#all of them but hitmonlee are stuck with low kick or submission for stab#and all of them instantly die to a psychic type move#then there's things like the only decent bug types learning no bug type attacks#balance and fairness were total afterthoughts#even pvp battles were a last minute addition because the collecting and catching element was the central focus#as a result we have a competitive format where every serious team uses three normal types#but fighting types are still terrible#the dark and steel types were added arguably to nerf psychic types and buff fighting types#and it worked!#didn't stop them from making snorlax in gsc the strongest thing ever though
