Note
You do realize he’s just not campaigning, Bernie is still in the race
yeah to my current understanding, he has NOT dropped out– the suspension of his campaign means that his funds/energy/attention will be directed towards issues like corona relief instead of the election (basically meaning no rallies). according to his official statement, he’s still on the ballot in order to collect delegates for a stronger influence in the party. (1, 2) (i know that twitter is not a reliable news source but both of these threads are in response to what people for bernie released, so like.) idk if that means he’s still up for presidential candidate / democratic nominee or whatever, but regardless it’s still possible to vote for him. right now the media is really acting like he’s out of the race for good which is massively fucked up, but also pretty on-brand for the way they’ve consistently been treating him. so there’s that
my point was that the electoral process is extremely convoluted and flawed. it relies on the exploitation of the people in order to keep the wealthy in positions of power. the US’s two party system is a direct catalyst for shit like the situation we’re in right now, where both candidates are equally fucking terrible. there’s a push by liberals to “vote blue no matter who” and “vote for the lesser evil” but the issue with that is that both biden and trump are fucking awful people who have extensive histories of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, & more, plus they are both sex offenders and war criminals. literally the only difference between them is “democrat” vs “republican”, but at the end of the day those two titles are arbitrary and the one thing is that democrats pat themselves on the back for being more polite when they’re committing war crimes. i know liberals on here love to act like democrats are better than republicans and that theres a real “it could be worse” attitude here, but the reality is that both parties fuckin suck and both profit off of the suffering of minorities. additionally the argument for biden over trump even though they’re both terrible people is inherently flawed because it encourages the normalization of more and more violence (x).
i think boots riley had a really good take about voting on twitter, but his account is gone rn (there’s a copy of it up here tho). right now the situation at hand really highlights that there is a need for people (meaning you and me and others around us) to 1. organize our communities, 2. share our resources, 3. unionize our workplaces, 4. support marginalized groups, and 5. recognize that we can’t focus all of our energy on one person- there’s power with the people and while voting is one way to encourage change, it’s not the only way. we can’t rely on being nice forever- action needs to be taken and the first step is recognizing the problems & reaching out
