watching hide rn and i like the tidbit where emma calls herself the professor's assistant rather than his companion because it's the 70s, and then the episode goes on to spend a great deal of time on developing an equal partnership between the two reminiscent of the evolution of the doctor/companion relationship in the 21st century. love that series 7b, as the series airing in the anniversary year, is so preoccupied with interrogating itself - the show's past, its well worn tropes, and its future

#blahs #dw rewatch #dw #didn't mention this about cold war but that ep seems to be anticipating the 50th #with the comparison it draws between the doctor and the cold war soldiers wanting to unleash nuclear warfare #in fact it arguably anticipates the entire Doctor As Soldier fixation of series 8 #which is itself very much in conversation with the doctor's history as a soldier on the show both in the time war and with unit #anyway. 7b has more going on than people give it credit for! i like it!
