You re such a cool girl beatles fandom really need a cool girl lol.
Also I was just wondering something about gay and straight fans here on tumblr. The way straights see J/P is either fetishization, cute comfort ship or blatant homophobia.
Most academic research and song analysis has been brought by gay women (and we usually have the best humor lol) but I cant help but wonder if we do something that us gays do when we see a complex relationship that doesn't comfirm to the heteronomative standards, we project our feelings. A lot. So... I just think people shouldn't think about all this too seriously because at the end we all are having fun. (Expect annoying paul girs but oh well)
look, stop overthinking fandom. just stop. it's useless and unnecessary, and it ruins your fun and everyone else's. the only reason i posted that person's comments was because they were straight up being homophobic towards a man they consider gay vs. the guy they see as their heterosexual hero. other than that, i really don't give a fuck about how they enjoy their fandom space. i'm sure they're saying worse shit on their blog right now, but i won't see it so, why bother?
about the research and the analysis, there's definitely a majority of gay women on tumblr, but there's also quite a few of gay men, especially trans gay men, around! this "projection" thing (no one is ever gonna learn what this word means huh) is definitely true, but in no way limited to the "shipper" side of the fandom; just look at the ""drama"" that was going on this week (it wasn't drama, it was me complaining about homophobia, but whatever makes this conflict-avoidant fandom feel better): her fave is obviously Paul, which is fine, and she can't stand John or the adoration he gets, which is fine, so the most logical step is to "project" her love of Paul onto John, so he looks like the only one in love, but since she dislikes him, he's also incredibly pathetic and obsessed, which drops him to the psycho-homo level of adoration.
overall, i think it's valid to see parts of ourselves in the people we love. we may blow up these traits out of proportion, but they're still there; we focus on how much Paul loves John (and vice versa) because we love John, and try to disregard the huge amount of jealousy and resentment from BOTH parties because it's not exactly how we feel about them. if someone doesn't like John, they will not focus on Paul's obsession with him, and the same applies to John. i think any way to enjoy fandom is valid, so unless you're being a homophobic cunt, just do you <3
#ask#the fetishization part is kind of... huh to me#like people here complain about straight ppl like caroline and others talking about JP in sexual/romantic terms#and call it fetishization without having ANY idea of what it really means#didn't blink an eye at what that woman said simply because she has the Bisexual Card. fuck off#sure she wants to see them fuck and so does rob sheffield so lmao#except he's getting paid to act it down and she's not#also the amy dunneficiation of user stewy thank you
