Important Facts You Don't Know About Vitiligo
Many people have heard of the skin disorder vitiligo, yet many individuals may not know much about it. Vitiligo develops when a person's immune system destroys the body's melanocytes, responsible for the generation of color in our skin, hair, and eyes.
What's awful is that many people who suffer from this illness become self-conscious about their appearance. Do you want to learn more about Vitiligo?
This post will provide some relevant information and some fascinating facts on Vitiligo.
Moreover, if you're in Kuwait or nearby areas and seeking professional help, it is essential to consider visiting a reputed dermatology clinic in Kuwait.
All About Vitiligo
Vitiligo, an autoimmune condition, is characterized by the gradual loss of pigment or color in certain areas of the skin, persisting as a chronic condition. This occurs when melanocytes — skin cells that produce pigment – are attacked, causing the skin to appear milky-white.
Vitiligo often results in the presence of white patches on various parts of your body, including both hands and knees. There might be a sudden loss of color or pigment that can cover a broad region.
The segmental subtype of Vitiligo is notably less common, characterized by the emergence of white patches on a specific segment or side of the body, like a leg, one side of the face, or an arm. Vitiligo typically starts at a young age, advances for 6 to 12 months, and then ends.
Although there is no cure for Vitiligo, therapies can be quite effective in stopping the development and reversing its symptoms, making skin tone seem more even.
Who is Affected by Vitiligo?
Vitiligo may affect anyone at any age. However, for many persons with Vitiligo, the white patches develop before the age of 20 and can present as early as childhood.
Vitiligo appears to be more frequent in those with a family history of the ailment or who have specific autoimmune disorders, such as:
Rheumatoid arthritis
Systemic lupus erythematosus
Thyroid disease.
Type 1 diabetes.
Addison's disease
Pernicious anemia
Psoriasis
Vitiligo: Signs & Symptoms
The primary sign of Vitiligo is the loss of natural color or pigment, which is depigmentation.
Depigmented patches can manifest in various areas of your body and produce the following outcomes:
Certain spots on the skin may turn milky-white, predominantly on the hands, feet, arms, and face. However, these patches may arise anywhere else on the body.
In regions where the skin's pigmentation is diminishing, hair can undergo a transformation and become white. This can happen on the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, beard, or body hair.
Mucous membranes, including the interior of your mouth and nose.
Vitiligo Patients May Also Develop:
Low self-esteem or a negative self-image caused by worries about one's looks can have a negative impact on one's quality of life.
Uveitis; encompasses a wide range of conditions characterized by inflammation or swelling within the eye.
Inflammation of the eardrum.
Some Fascinating Facts About Vitiligo
1. Vitiligo is not painful
Vitiligo is a disorder that causes no physical pain in the person suffering from it. It changes the color of the skin, hair, and even the pupils, which can result in emotional and psychological trauma.
2. It is not infectious
It is a condition in which white spots and patches replace the normal skin tone. It is not infectious, meaning it cannot be passed from one person to another by direct or indirect contact. It cannot be transferred by touch, exchanging personal objects, or other means.
3. It is not triggered by food consumption
Some people believe that eating white or citrus foods can trigger Vitiligo. However, there is no scientific evidence to support the misconceptions. Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disorder that is not caused by any diet. Patients suffering from it can eat and drink anything they want by consulting a doctor.
4. Vitiligo is not related to Leprosy
Vitiligo is frequently confused with leprosy because of its similar look on the skin. The two skin disorders, however, are vastly different. Vitiligo is an autoimmune illness that causes skin pigment loss, whereas leprosy is a chronic infectious disease that affects the eyes and skin.
5. Vitiligo is not Albinism
Albinism differs from Vitiligo in that individuals with albinism are born with no melanin owing to a genetic condition. Vitiligo patients are born with normal skin but develop aberrant immunological responses to melanocytes, resulting in pigment loss later in life.
Conclusion
Our society must endeavor to be more accepting of persons with Vitiligo so that we may eventually stop treating them differently or isolating them. It is essential for us as humans to be more attentive to those affected by this condition so that they do not feel ashamed of their appearance.

Additionally, to diet, our lifestyle also influences our skin health. In this article, we will provide some critical information on the impact of lifestyle and diet on skin care.
Skin Disorder Influenced by Unhealthy Diet and Lifestyle
Acne
Keeping healthy skin is not an easy task. It requires constant maintenance and a skincare routine. However, one of the most significant aspects of our life has a higher impact on our skin: diet. Additionally, to diet, our lifestyle also influences our skin health. In this article, we will provide some critical information on the impact of lifestyle and diet on skin care.
Skin Disorder Influenced by Unhealthy Diet and Lifestyle
Acne
Acne is a common skin disorder caused by blocked hair follicles. There is no data that suggests diet or lifestyle can cause acne, but it can influence or trigger it. A poor diet can affect the hormones which trigger acne. Your diet contains higher levels of milk, soda, sugar, and other carbohydrates, which causes insulin levels to rise. That can affect the skin, which can cause acne.
Wrinkles
Poor lifestyle and improper diet can cause wrinkles and fine lines. Unhealthy lifestyles can cause issues with the skin, which create premature wrinkles. Eating processed food and sugar can hurt the skin's collagen, which affects the skin.
Dry Skin
Vitamin deficiency is the leading cause of dry skin. A poor diet without any nutrients can cause skin damage, resulting in dry skin or dehydration. Without vitamin D, vitamin A, iron, zinc, or niacin can cause dry skin.
Aging
One of the leading causes of aging skin is a poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle, such as excessive drinking and smoking. That's why it's important to eat healthily and limit alcohol consumption.
Essential Dietary Factors and Lifestyle Choices for Healthy Skin
Nutrient Food
Consuming a balanced diet is not only good for the skin, but it also helps our body. We need to take a certain number of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other important nutrients to keep healthy skin. This contains vitamin C, E, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, and more.
Exposure to Sun
We need the sun to create vitamin D. However, we also need to make sure to safeguard our skin from sunburn. It can affect our bodies and influence aging and the risk of skin cancer. Always use protective clothing and sunscreen while outside.
Sugar intake
As mentioned above, sugar is one of the leading causes of many skin disorders. Make sure to avoid sugary drinks and food in high intake to preserve your skin.
Exercises and sleep
Exercise helps boost the circulation of blood, which can improve skin health. Exercise also reduces anxiety which in turn reduces the chance of acne or other skin disorders. Similarly, a proper sleep schedule is also important. Not sleeping on time or for enough hours can cause premature aging, puffiness under the eyes, and other skin issues.
Hydration
Drinking enough water is one of the easiest ways to keep your skin healthy. Water can help the digestive system flush out toxins which can help skin glow and fight psoriasis and eczema. It also helps our body stay hydrated, preventing dryness, flakiness, and wrinkles.
Conclusion
A healthy lifestyle and diet can help us prevent many skin disorders and diseases. Apart from genetic disorders, poor diet is one of the leading causes of many skins related issues. A Comprehensive Guide: Benefits, Pre- and Post-Care Best Practices for Facial Laser Treatments
Facial laser treatment, or laser resurfacing or laser skin rejuvenation, is a popular non-surgical option for treating various skin concerns. It is a cosmetic procedure that uses focused laser beams to improve the appearance of the skin on the face. It can help anyone who wishes to achieve a more youthful and refreshed look. This article will explore various best guidelines and actions to avoid during and after facial laser treatment.
The Essential Dos, Don'ts of Facial Laser Treatments
Best Practices
Find an Expert Dermatologist
One of the most essential parts is to find a qualified dermatologist or skincare specialist to evaluate your skin condition. Before moving forward with the treatment, it's advisable to discuss the process and your expectations. This will help them determine if you are suitable for facial laser treatment. We suggest Quttainah medical center in Kuwait, as they have dermatology specialists and top-of-the-line laser equipment.
Follow Pre-Treatment Guideline
It's essential to follow every pre-treatment instruction to gain optimal results. Your dermatologist may suggest specific guidelines in accordance with your consultation. This will include advice such as avoiding sun exposure, discontinuing certain medications, and following a pre-treatment skincare routine.
Protect Your Skin from the Sun
Once the laser treatment is complete, patients need to follow specific post-care Instructions. They need to avoid sun exposure as their skin will be more sensitive to sunlight. Ask your dermatologist to suggest sunscreen with high SPF. Wear protective clothing and avoid excessive sun exposure for several weeks post-treatment.
Keep the Treated Area Clean
After the facial laser treatment, your dermatologist will advise you to keep the treated area clean. The chances of getting infections are higher in the first few days, so follow proper hygiene practices and ensure a clean environment. Avoid contacting the treated area with unclean hands to reduce the possibility of transferring germs or dirt onto the skin. To clean the treated area, use a gentle, non-irritating cleaner directed by your dermatologist. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and support healing.
Actions to Avoid
Don't Tan Before the Treatment
For facial laser treatment, patients need to protect their skin before the procedure. This includes avoiding tanning beds, self-tanning products, and excessive sun exposure. It can raise the risk of challenges and reduce the effectiveness of the laser.
Don't Use Certain Medications and Products
During the consultation, inform your dermatologist about the medication you take. For example, certain medicines, topical creams, or skin care products. The dermatologist will review the medications and ask you to avoid certain skin care products or medicines as they can interfere with the treatment. Sometimes it can increase the risk of complications too.
Don't Pick at or Scratch Treated Skin
Your skin needs time to heal naturally, so you must avoid picking or scratching the treated area. Picking at or scratching the treated skin can introduce bacteria, dirt, or other harmful microorganisms into the area. It can harm freshly developed tissue, reduce collagen formation, and disrupt the regrowth stage of wound healing. Also, it can disrupt the targeted effects of the procedure and compromise the desired outcomes.
Benefits of Facial Laser Treatment
Wrinkle Reduction
Laser treatments can help reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines, such as crow's feet, forehead lines, and laugh lines. The laser increases collagen formation, improving the skin's softness and lowering wrinkle depth. By finding an experienced dermatologist, laser treatment can exceed the expectations of patients and offer better results.
Skin Rejuvenation
Laser treatments promote the production of collagen, a protein that gives the skin structure and smoothness. Collagen production normally declines as we age, resulting in wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. As the damaged skin peels away, new, healthy skin replaces it. This leads to improved skin texture, smoother skin, and a more youthful appearance.
Sun Damage Correction
Prolonged sun exposure can result in a number of skin issues, including sunspots, age spots, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. Facial laser treatments can successfully address these difficulties by properly targeting and treating UV damage. Laser treatments use targeted wavelengths that are absorbed by melanin, the pigment that causes dark spots and discoloration. The laser energy is selectively absorbed by the excess melanin in the afflicted regions, causing it to degrade without damaging the surrounding healthy skin.
Acne Scar Reduction
Acne scars, such as rolling, boxcars, and icepick scars, can be dramatically improved with facial laser treatments. The laser aids in collagen remodeling and skin resurfacing, resulting in a smoother complexion.
Skin Tightening
Laser treatments can tighten loose or sagging skin by increasing collagen formation and boosting skin firmness. This is especially effective for people who have mild to severe skin laxity.
Minimally Invasive
Non-surgical facial laser treatments are a less intrusive alternative to surgical cosmetic procedures such as facelifts. This implies less recuperation time, a lower chance of problems, and less discomfort during treatment.
Conclusion
Facial laser treatments are a non-invasive or minimally invasive method of enhancing skin appearance and health. By following proper pre- and post-treatment by an expert dermatologist, we can gain better results from facial laser treatment in Dubai. In this article, we explain the best practices and things to avoid so that you can get the best possible result. We have also mentioned the benefits of facial laser treatments and how they can help with various skin conditions and issues. Follow these tips and find an expert dermatologist from a specialized hospital, such as quttainah medical center in Kuwait and transform your facial skin.

Topical Use Acne Treatment Market Overview, Sales, Opportunities, Share, Technology, Supply, Growth Analysis, Trends, Forecast to 2027
Acne, also referred to as acne vulgaris, is a skin disease caused by the clogging of hair follicles with oily or dead skin cells. The condition of the skin can be persistent even after treatment. Acne is estimated to affect areas of the skin with a relatively high number of oil glands, i.e., the face, upper chest, and back. Pustules, nodules, papules, cystic lesions, among others, are common symptoms of the disease. Acne is common among adolescents.
According to Market Research Future (MRFR), the global acne treatment market is expected to grow at an approximate CAGR of 5.3% from 2017 to 2023 (forecast period).
Market Dynamics
Rising prevalence of acne and the rising adolescent population are the key drivers of the growth of the acne treatment market size during the forecast period. As reported by the Acne and Rosacea Society of Canada, 90% of adolescents in Canada were affected by acne in 2016. Moreover, it has been estimated that 5 million people have acne in the region. In addition, cosmetic expenditure and increasing awareness of the disease are driving the growth of the acne treatment market. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, in 2016, the Americans spent more than USD 13.5 billion on aesthetic procedures (surgical and non-surgical). The estimated increase from 2014 was around USD 1.5 billion.
However, factors such as the reported cases of acute reactions induced by non-prescription acne treatment products and the high cost of therapeutic procedures such as microdermabrasion, dermabrasion, and others hinder the market growth during the forecast period. As stated in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the total cost of dermabrasion in 2016 was calculated at around USD 1,162, excluding anesthetic and other associated costs.

In addition, the emergence of developed economies such as the U.S. and Canada within the region is driving the growth of the acne treatment market.
Europe is second in the market for acne treatment, followed by the Asia Pacific. Factors such as the availability of research funding, a growing patient population, and a rising adolescent population in the area are key drivers of market growth in the region. According to Eurostat, there were nearly 507 million inhabitants in the region in 2014. Approximately 79 million children aged up to 14 years were among this population.
The Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing region due to the rising prevalence of acne and rapidly developing economies such as India and China. According to the Indian Journal of Pediatric Dermatology, around 200 million to 300 million people in India were projected to suffer from acne in 2017. In addition, the advancement of the healthcare sector in the area is driving the growth of the acne treatment market.
The Middle East & Africa has the lowest share in the global market for acne treatment. This can be ascribed to the prevalence of weak economies, strong government policies, and lack of healthcare facilities, particularly in the African region. The bulk of the market for acne treatment in the Middle East and Africa is in the Middle East. This can be ascribed to a well-developed healthcare sector and massive spending on healthcare by developed economies such as Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Kuwait within the region.

The Quttainah Medical Center has earned a reputation as one of the key players in the Cosmetic Medicine and Surgery market sector in Kuwait and the region. QMC provides the highest standards of medical services, the center is fully fledged with the latest technologies, advanced techniques, specialized and skilled team to assure the best cosmetic and reconstructive results. It was established and is run by a remarkable man – Dr. Adel Quttainah.
Facilities such as the QMC don’t create themselves, and behind them lays a story of passion and commitment. We learned more from Dr. Adel himself…
What is the extent of services offered at the QMC?
We started initially to be the Middle East’s largest center for aesthetic medicine. Today, however, we’re covering a much broader range. QMC consists of four state of the art operating theaters, exclusive inpatients suites, services include Cosmetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dermatology, ENT (Facial Plastic Surgery), Skin Care and Laser Department, Bariatric and General Surgery, Cosmetic Dental Surgery, Non- Surgical weight loss Department, Gynecology and Infertility-IVF Clinic, LVR (Cosmetic Gynecology Clinic), Complete Breast Care Clinic, Hair Transplantation, Oasis IV Hydration Clinic as well as many other services and disciplines.
Why did you choose cosmetic surgery as a career?
Simply, because I didn’t want to do anything else. I didn’t want to specialise in a specific area of surgery, and this is the only speciality that covers all ages and both genders. There’s always something new, a fresh challenge and a solution to be found.
What is the most challenging aspect of your role in Kuwait and the region?
Like any other business, you have to be consistent. that’s the challenge. In our sector, the highest quality is always the supreme goal. Happy patients bring happy patients.
What’s the secret behind your success? What are your values and ambitions?
There’s no secret – it’s all just pure hard work. I’m still working 100 hours a week – it’s what’s required if we’re going to maintain ourselves as the best. My ambitions are to open similar centers in Gulf states – but I’ll only do this when I can guarantee carrying forward our strong work ethics and rigid discipline to new locations.
How big a role does technology play in the development of surgical and cosmetic techniques? Where are the biggest strides being taken in this regard?
In plastic and cosmetic surgery – other than perhaps in dermatology with its laser machines – technology doesn’t play as significant a role as people might think. You can’t tell a robot to ‘fix this nose.’ The surgeon’s skill is always the prime technology in this sector. A good plastic surgeon is the key.
Work / Life Balance
You’re a busy man. How do you juggle the work / life balance? How do you manage to find time for family and other passions?
To be honest, I don’t manage it all that well, other than at weekends or when we travel.
When you’re away from QMC, do you find it easy to disconnect from work altogether?
Not totally. Although my specialty is more comfortable to move away from because I’m unlikely to be called on an emergency, I never disconnect altogether.
Freetime
We know you’re a passionate car enthusiast, and a McLaren aficionado in particular. What is it about Woking’s finest that attracted you in the first place?
A friend tried to get me interested in McLarens, but to me, it was a racing car marque, that was all. Everything changed though when I got into one. The experience changed my view of English automotives.
Here was a stable, responsive and practical supercar – and one that can be driven every day. McLaren’s attention to detail – and luxury touches – make it perfect for me.
What is it about fast cars that fascinates you?
You might be surprised to learn it’s not just the speed… it’s the whole package. All cars are fast these days. A car’s aerodynamics and aesthetics interest me more than pure speed.
I like to know what’s under the hood and appreciate the technology. For me, McLaren are the best in this regard – getting so much out of a tightly packaged engine.
What would be your ideal car?
The 720S.
What else fills your time away from surgery?
I have a museum – the first and only medical museum in Kuwait. I’ve collected around 400 pieces over the past 25 years. It’s a passion of mine. Whenever I travel, you’ll find me searching antique markets around the world for additional pieces. I also use the internet to search for unique pieces. I have an old wooden stethoscope that took a year to find.

QUICK-FIRE Q&A
• When were you happiest? When I got results of my medical fellowship exams. I’d worked hard.
• What is your greatest fear? God. I try to do the right thing. I’ll have to wait to see what he thinks.

• What is your most treasured possession?
My family.

• What is the trait you most admire in others? Loyalty.
• What would your super power be? I wish I could create ten more hours a day. Perhaps I could be SleeplessMan.

• What is your guiltiest pleasure? Food. I love food. But my metabolism is slowing more quickly than my appetite!
• What do you owe your parents? Everything.
• How do you relax? Travelling.
• What single thing would improve the quality of your life? Less work or more hours.
• What keeps you awake at night? Nothing. I hit the pillow and sleep.
• How would you like to be remembered? By my patients – as the guy that improved their lives. By my family and friends – as the guy that was always there for them. By others – just as a nice guy.
