#decide the police department isn't safe anymore

"Sir," said Yui for what was probably not the hundredth time but definitely felt like at least the sixty-eighth, "this is a coffeeshop. I don't know what you think you're looking for, but the closest we get to law enforcement is serving the officers that come through here. Which your presence is preventing me from doing."

It wasn't even a lie – she could see the portly inspector from Division One answering a phone call a couple steps from the door, accompanied by one of his detectives who gave her a sheepish wave when he caught her glance through the wide window.

Takeaway? Yui asked with a lift of her hand, and proceeded to ring up the orders at his nod. (If it just so happened that brought her away down the counter from where she'd been stuck for the past fifteen minutes, that was merely and obviously a complete coincidence.)

She stayed there long enough to watch the PSB agent to see himself out, but Azusa waved her off when she turned to the coffee machine. "It's your turn for a break, Yui-san, I'll handle their drinks!"

Azusa really was a godsend; Yui didn't know how they'd have ever managed running this place without her.

"Thank you," she said, fervently, and hung up her apron on its hook before slipping into the back office.

Kansuke raised an eyebrow as she came in. "That guy finally slink off back to where he came from?"

Yui grimaced, and fell gratefully into the chair Koumei had pulled up for her. "For now, and hopefully he won't be back for a while. No thanks to either of you," she added with an irritation she didn't really feel – they'd already agreed she would be the best person among them to handle this, given the ties Koumei had and the fact that Kan-chan was… well, Kan-chan. "Have you found anything?"

"The tip from our reporter friend appears to check out." Koumei slid a map over to her, labelled neatly in his handwriting. "It's worth further investigation in person. Discreet investigation."

"I'll grab the brat from the Mouris," Kan-chan said, completely unperturbed.

"Discreet," Koumei repeated, "and you really should stop trying to bring Edogawa-kun along at the slightest pretext, it's going to attract suspicion at some point."

"And Ran-chan will be quite put out with us if he does get hurt during his involvement," Yui chimed in.

Kan-chan made an impatient noise. "Worth it. Otherwise he's gonna turn out all boring like Koumei, do I look like I want two of those in my life?!"

(Koumei gave a cough that sounded improbably like as if the feeling isn't mutual, and Yui rolled her eyes. "Fine, now one of you go up front and help Azusa-san out, shoo.")
