Wayne Lineage Revealed: Vital Records Found in England

In the Golden Age of Gotham, the brothers Silas and Patrick Wayne had all the world at their reach. But when they left behind a single heir with dubious parentage, they couldn't realize the world of confusion their modern descendants would face.

Damian Farhad Wayne, son of the late Bruce Wayne, announced a new witness in the ongoing legal proceedings following his father's death in November 2013. A woman named Elizabeth St. Martin has come forward to share her biological link to Martha Wayne, solving a riddle many have been puzzling over for over half a century.

We now know the identity of Martha Wayne's mother -- the late Dr. Margaret Carter, one of the founders of the Allied paramilitary group STAR during World War II. The original birth certificate of Martha Wayne was discovered in Carter's affects by St. Martin, citing Carter as the mother, with an unknown father. The witness, St. Martin, is a descendant of one of Carter's other children.

Experts have already proven the paternity of Martha Wayne long before the woman's untimely death in 1983. The fact that Patrick Wayne was the woman's father was not in question with the courts. However, the fact she was not the product of a marriage, and her mother remained an unknown, caused some concern for possible other claimants to the Wayne fortune. Though some have tried to say otherwise, Patrick Wayne was not known for philandering, and the link to fellow STAR organizer Carter is now obvious.

According to the documents revealed by St. Martin, Margaret Carter herself was an illegitimate child of England native Ethel Sugarcombe and an unknown man in 1918, raised by Ethel's sister Amanda and brother-in-law Colonel Harrison Carter. It was not the only child the Carters raised alongside their own, as Colonel Carter also took in World War II hero James "Bucky" Barnes as a child as well.

Earlier this week, the witness Gertrude Cobblepot was deposed about her childhood with Martha Wayne, though her age was cited as an issue with her testimony. This new information, however, gives credence to the woman's claims that she spent time with Martha and her tutors at Wayne Manor, under the eye of Patrick and Silas themselves.

When reached for questioning, Damian Wayne had the following to say: "I understand the desire to keep such things out of the public spotlight. An illegitimate child would have ruined Carter's early career, and she was clearly friendly with the Waynes thereafter. It is not a conventional family unit that my grandmother came from, but I am also a product of the unknown for my own sake."

Damian Wayne is set to inherit the Wayne fortune, estimated at approximately $◼️◼️◼️ billion, with ward of the estate Richard Grayson acting as his trustee until he comes of age. Timothy Drake, another adopted child of Wayne, said that the reason they're fighting hard in the courts is not for money: "It's for what we know Bruce would have wanted to do with the company, the foundation, and the funds. That's why we're digging our heels in."
