There are many things she loves about being Julian Brandts girlfriend. He’s thoughtful, kind, shows her he loves her multiple times a day and of course he’s incredibly handsome. She loves tracing the tattoos on his arm, adores spending time with his family and pulling pranks with his brothers. His friends love having her around and her friends love meeting up with Julian. But there is one friend of Jule’s that she doesn’t see eye to eye with at all. And unfortunately that happens to be Kai Havertz.

She met Kai for the first time during the World Cup. She and Julian hadn’t been dating long and because Kai lives in England, it was harder for him to meet up with them to meet her. She met Sophia in the stands and they hit it off immediately. She met Kai after the first match, the one they lost against Japan. Julian walked up to her first and she immediately wrapped her arms around his shoulders. He hadn’t played but was still quite upset. Kai had come up behind Jule and he passed them to get to Sophia. He had given her a look she didn’t appreciate a lot, but she brushed it off as him being upset with the game.

But when Jule introduced her, Kai barely even acknowledged her. He gave her one look and then went back to talking to other people. She had looked to Julian, who was just as surprised as she was. Julian went to talk to Kai about it whilst she went to stand with Sophia who didn’t understand her boyfriend’s behaviour either. It didn’t get much better after that. Anytime they were in the same room, she tried to talk to Kai. To get to know him or to see if there was anything she could do to get him to like her. She mostly did it for Julian, she hated the way he looked so defeated when she and Kai ended up in another argument. It just seems that Kai didn’t see the look on his best friend’s face or he didn’t care enough.

She doesn’t like Kai much, she thinks he is arrogant and egotistical for the way he is acting and that seeing them not getting along, is hurting Julian more than he wants to admit. She would honestly do anything for Julian and to see his best friend not even acknowledging the fact that this is hurting Julian, pisses her off. But when Jule tells her Kai is coming over that weekend, she holds back a groan. She makes the promise to herself that she’ll try one more time to get Kai to like her and then she’ll give up. She goes as far as to ask Sophia what Kai’s favourite meal is and which recipe Sophia uses to make it for him.

So when Kai and Sophia arrive, she’s working away in the kitchen. She goes to greet them, giving Sophia a hug and as she moves to Kai all he does is hold out his hand, not even looking at her. She shakes it softly, before moving back to the kitchen. Sophia follows her to help out, but she just makes Sophia sit down with a glass of wine and they talk. She asks Sophia if there is anything she did to make Kai not like her (like she does every time), but even Sophia doesn’t know what’s bothering Kai about her so much. She decides to give up on asking and finishes the food. They set the table and Sophia calls in the boys. Kai is the first one downstairs.

“Wow, this looks great Soof. How did you make it so fast?” “I didn’t Kai. I gave her the recipe a few days ago, she made it.” “Yeah right.”

Kai gives her a glance before sitting down. Julian walks in a little later and presses a kiss to his girlfriend's cheek. “Thank you for making dinner, liebe.”

When everyone sits down, they all plate some food before eating. What no one is expecting is for Kai to spit his food back onto his plate. “Well it’s clear you didn’t make it Soof. It doesn’t taste good at all.”

That was the last drop. She can’t help the little sob that leaves her lips before she quickly stands up and practically runs up the stairs. She runs all the way to the bathroom before locking herself in. She doesn’t hear the argument that’s going on downstairs over her own sobs.

“Was stimmt nicht mit dir?! Why would you say that? It tastes good. Why can’t you just accept her as my girlfriend? She’s tried everything to get you to like her and you just ignore her the whole time. Ich liebe sie so sehr. Why can’t you see that?!” Julian goes after her as Kai looks down.

Whilst Julian runs up the stairs, Kai turns to Sophia, only to find her looking at him in utter disappointment. “Was?” “She is doing everything to get you to like her. Why are you being like this? This isn’t you.”

“I just don’t want her to hurt Julian. She is clearly after his money. Why else would she choose to go public with him during the World Cup. If it’s not money, it’s fame she’s after.” Sophia heaves a big sigh.

“How do you have such a big board in front of your face? She didn’t want them to go public at the World Cup. Julian wanted to introduce her to you, but there wasn’t another time other than the world cup. Can’t you see the way they look at each other?! Bist du so blind?”

Sophia went to get another glass of wine as Kai thought over her words. He never thought of it that way. He always assumed she was the one that wanted to go public at the World Cup. He didn’t think she came with Julian just to meet him. He has to make this right. He moves to the stairs and he can hear Julian knocking on a door. He hears as Julian tries to get his girlfriend to open the door for him. He hears the sobs and the strangled ‘no’s’ that come from the other side of the door. When Julian spots Kai he gives an irritated sigh.

“Was machst du hier? Haven’t you done enough?”

“I have to make it right, Jule. Let me try, please?” It was more of a rhetorical question than an actual one, but Julian agrees with a little hesitance. Julian moves to get past Kai, but stops when he’s next to him. “If you screw this up even more, you better stay in London. I really love her Kai. Stop hurting the girl I love or our friendship is over.”

Kai gulps, but nods his head at Julian. Julian walks down the stairs whilst shaking his head. Once Julian is downstairs Kai turns to the door. He heaves a sigh and knocks on the bathroom door.

“Geh weg, Julian."

“I’m not Julian.”

He hears as she gasps a little when she hears his voice. He hears the door click and he opens it slowly. He sees her sitting against the bathtub, eyes red and tears streaming down her face. He moves to sit across from her. She doesn’t look at him as he sits, she rubs the sleeves of her shirt along her cheeks. He analyzes the way she’s sitting, but doesn’t make a move to say anything yet. Then he sees her fiddle with a J necklace. If she’s wearing that, there is no way she’s with him for fame or money.

“Es tut mir leid.” She looks up when he apologizes. “I thought you were in it for fame or money. I thought I was looking out for my best friend. I thought you were just gonna hurt him and I was wrong. I see now that you really love him. I’m sorry for all the times I hurt you by brushing you off. And the dinner you made is actually amazing, probably even better than Soofs. But please don’t tell her I said that.” They both laugh. “Friends?”

She looks at the hand he’s offering. “I forgive you, so yes. Friends.” He stands up and helps her off the floor as well. He opens his arms, giving her the option for a hug if she wants to. She smiles and hugs him. “I wouldn’t have let Julian end your friendship Kai. You two are platonic soulmates, I’d never want to be the cause of Bravertz breaking up.” That makes both of them laugh. He gives her another hug. They joke together as they walk downstairs, finally able to find the things they have in common. They see Julian on the couch with his head in his hands, with Sophia rubbing his back, when they finally notice the footsteps on the stairs and the laughter.

Julian looks up surprised as he sees them laughing together. He gets up as they walk into the living room. She sees the nervous look on his face and immediately moves to wrap her arms around his waist. His arms go around her shoulders and he looks up at Kai, who gives him a smile and a nod. Julian tightens his arms around her, pressing a few kisses to the top of her head. When she pulls away, she presses a kiss to Julian’s lips.

“Let me reheat the food and we can all eat.” “I’ll help.”

Julian’s and Sophia’s eyes almost pop out when Kai offers his help. As they move to the kitchen with the food, Julian and Sophia look at each other bewildered. How did their dynamic change that fast? Not that they’re complaining. It’s just a bit odd. It’s safe to say the rest of the evening went great. And after that night as well. They went on couple dates and Julian finally got to be more affectionate with his girlfriend without Kai acting all disgusted and glaring daggers. And her friendship with Kai? It only blossomed.

walking through the open, silver gate, a loud gasp escaped your mouth at the sight. pavements tangled through large and small rows of flowers, the entirety of the place filled with different colors. when julian asked you, if you had a favorite kind of flower, and you couldn't just name one, you did not expect to end up in a botanic garden. one of the most exquisite, and expensive in the area.

but there you were. standing at the beginning of a paradise of lilies and roses, forget me not's and tulips. beauties, the world hasn't seen enough of. "i guess, the silence is a good sign." julian half stated, and half questioned with a single eyebrow raised.

you stopped walking, throwing the head back to stare at the sky. the clear arctic blue vanished behind cotton-like, slate colored clouds. a dusty gray spread through the sky and mixed with a deep, soulless black. raindrops started to fall in strong showers, covering the cobblestone pavements in puddles of water.

but julian reacted quickly to the change of weather, taking his jacket off, he held it above your head to shield you from the raindrops. “that escalated quickly.” the blonde man admitted, leading you towards one of the small shops further down the path. drenched by the falling rain, julian’s long hair stuck against his forehead and parts of his neck while placing the jacket carefully over your shoulders.

Julian Brandt is playing his best Bundesliga season to date. For a long time, the Bremen-born player lacked consistency in his performances. But the Borussia Dortmund attacker, who has just celebrated a special anniversary, delivered just in time for his home European Championships.

Suddenly everything happened very quickly. Emre Can passed the ball between the stunned Bremen defenders and into the penalty area. Right into the path of Julian Brandt, who had cleverly stolen away. The high-class striker took the ball with one touch and struck Werder with the second. Brandt scored with a fine lob over the onrushing keeper Michael Zetterer to make it 1:0 for BVB.

It was to be the only goal of the evening. Brandt of all people - the Bremen-born player who had never played for Werder - was the man of the match. Not only BVB coach Edin Terzic finds this "extraordinary" and calls Brandt "a child of the Bundesliga", who once made his debut for Leverkusen in 2014 at the age of 17.

Germany is currently seeing a Brandt in the form of his life - as a glance at the GSN data clearly shows. With a performance score of 64.91, the man who, with his light blonde hair and cheeky grin on his face, still looks like a rascal ten years after his debut, is having by far the best season of his career on Dortmund's left wing (previous best score 61.47).

What is the "performance score"?

Three goals and four assists have already been recorded. His scoring record dates back to his last season at Leverkusen in 2019/2020, when he ended up with seven goals and 15 assists (his goal record is nine). Unlike usual for Brandt, however, he is in outstanding early form this season.

As a rule, he always needs a few more weeks to get up to speed. In his record-breaking season, for example, he only had two assists to his name after eight matchdays. In 2021/2022 it was two goals, in 2022/2023 two goals and two assists each.

Are his days as a sloppy genius numbered?

The strengths of the player from VfL Wolfsburg's youth team, who had to let him go before his first professional appearance, are well known: from offensive one-on-one, technique and passing to creativity and overview. In the 1-0 win against Bremen, he also showed how well he can anticipate and how quick his pace is.

At the same time, Brandt will certainly not become a header monster or a defensive workhorse. More seriously, however, he has lacked consistency in recent years because he hasn't always seemed to be on the ball - a sloppy genius, if you like.

His current explosion in performance may also have something to do with the fact that coach Terzic has deployed him much less frequently in his favorite position as a playmaker this season. In Leverkusen, he once played with the number 10 on his back, but Dortmund's number 19 now mainly plays on the left wing, but also on the right. Mind you, with permission to repeatedly move towards the goal in the center. In data jargon, this is referred to as an "inverse winger", while Brandt himself recently spoke of a "hybrid position".

Brandt is the fourth-best German in the league

In this position, he has no need to shy away from comparison in the league. Brandt is right at the top in almost all relevant statistics. With 3.32 assists per game, he is even the best in the league - as is his involvement in 1.55 Dortmund attacks per game that lead to goals and his 0.59 expected assists, i.e. assists that should (actually) lead to goals.

In Leroy Sané, Mats Hummels, Chris Führich and Leon Goretzka, only four Germans in the Bundesliga currently have a better performance score than Brandt. That should also make namesake Julian Nagelsmann prick up his ears. But is the new national coach also counting on him?

Only 19 minutes on the pitch on the USA trip

Another reason for Brandt standing out could be the upcoming European Championships in his own country. It kicks off on June 14, 2024 with the opening game in Munich. And Brandt will not be allowed to slack off if he is to play a significant role at the home European Championships. Nagelsmann did nominate Brandt, who has 45 international appearances to date with three goals, for the most recent international trip to the USA. However, he only played 19 minutes against the hosts and sat on the bench for the entirety of the subsequent match against Mexico.

Great competition in the German attack

This is not because he has strong competition in his position in the form of Führich (performance score 65.08/2 goals/5 assists). The Stuttgart native, who is a completely different type of player anyway with his long sprints down the left wing, only played nine minutes in the USA. In Nagelsmann's favored 4-4-2, four central midfielders played behind the two attackers and, in Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, two 20-year-olds who have a bright future with the DFB.

And then there is another problem: the "child of the Bundesliga" Brandt, who was awarded the Fritz Walter Gold Medal in 2014, has not been able to build on his strong previous performances in either the Champions League or the national team. Especially with the eagle on his chest, the BVB professional was hardly recognizable. His performance score in international matches over the past five years was just 55.86 points.

Does Brandt bring consistency to his performances?

However, with his current GSN index of 82.98 and a possible score of 84.59, Brandt is scratching the surface of world class. He is also so interesting for the national team because he can actually play all positions in the offense (apart from center forward). If he manages to even begin to show his potential in the national team, Nagelsmann will not be able to ignore him.

This might be it - Julian Brandt

Pairing: Julian Brandt x female Schlotterbeck reader, Nico Schlotterbeck x sister reader, Karim Adeyemi x ex-girlfriend reader

Warnings: fluff, bit of nerves, small cliffhanger at the end, small mention of cheating, bit of teasing from Nico Word count: 1010

To say Julian is nervous is an understatement. Today is the game against Leipzig, but that isn’t why he’s nervous. Whilst they’ve still been in contact, she hasn’t let anything on about the box he sent her. Not a single word about it. He was too afraid to ask about it, but the nerves are eating him alive. It doesn’t help that Nico is watching his every move. He didn’t know why, but after he sent the box Nico kept a close eye on him. Or that’s just what his brain made him think because of the nerves. 

But whilst they’re changing for the game, he can feel Nico’s eyes on him. Which makes him even more nervous. He tries to focus on getting ready and getting in the right headspace. When suddenly someone taps his arm. Nico is standing next to him, but his face doesn’t give away anything. Julian stands up and faces Nico.

“There is someone waiting for you outside the changing room. I’d go quickly before the warm-up if I were you.”

That is all that Nico told him, before turning around and going back to his seat to continue getting ready. Julian checked to make sure he was appropriate before heading to the changing room door. He saw the looks of his teammates, all of them curious as to what was going on. Even Karim, who was talking to a few others to motivate them, was watching him. As he stepped out, he didn’t see anyone at first. So he looks down the corridor and there she is. She’s standing there, facing him with a nervous look on her face. 

Julian slowly approaches her, noticing she is wearing a Dortmund shirt. But from the front, you can’t see which name she has on her back. Once he’s in front of her, she wraps her arms around his neck for a hug. He reciprocates of course, wrapping his arms around her waist and putting his face in the crook of her neck. He takes in her scent, one that’s always comforting to him and it settles his nerves a little. 

“I really hope I understood what you were asking me by sending me the ticket and the jersey.”

She pulls away from Julian and both of them are a bit hesitant to let go. And then she turns around to show him the name on her back. The suspense is killing him, but once she’s turned around, a laugh escapes him. She’s wearing it, she’s wearing his jersey. She accepts what he’s asking of her. She’s agreed to officially date him. 

“Just to be sure, this means I get to call you my girlfriend right?”

It comes out softer than both of them expect. But she turns back around to look him in the eyes and she just gives him a nod. To which he immediately wraps his arms back around her waist, lifting her up and spinning her around. She laughs this time, clinging to his shoulders almost begging him to stop. When he puts her back down, he puts his forehead against hers, closing his eyes. And they just stand there for a minute, taking each other in. They only pull away when they hear the changing room door opening. 

“You have to let him go now, he needs to get ready for the game.”

Nico is standing in the doorway, looking at them with a smile. For a minute, both of them had forgotten where they were. The people around them getting everything ready for the game, were all forgotten in each other’s presence. He pulls away from her and she presses a kiss to his cheek and wishes him good luck. In return he presses a kiss to her forehead and he watches her walk away, heading to her seat. Julian walks towards the changing room, now a little nervous because Nico is still standing there. And even if he’s smiling, Julian is still cautious. But Nico just slaps him on the back, softly congratulating him. But Nico wouldn’t be Nico if he didn’t also threaten him to not hurt his sister.  

When Julian walked into the changing room again, a lot of eyes were on him. Curious to know why he left the room, Marius walked up to him. He sits next to Julian, but Julian doesn’t pay him a lot of attention, instead he’s making sure that everything is ready for the game. He ignores the questioning looks from his teammates and does his usual routine to get into the right mindset. Only this time it’s with a huge smile on his face. So when they can’t get anything from Julian, their gazes turn to Nico. Nico looks at everyone looking at him, but he, just like Julian, doesn’t give anything away. 

Soon enough they move out of the changing room to warm up for the game. It doesn’t take too long for someone to approach Julian, he glances to the side to find Karim walking next to him. Karim gives Julian a look, one asking him to tell him what’s going on. But Julian just shakes his head and doesn’t say a word to Karim, which seems to frustrate him a lot. It amuses Julian that he can get under Karim’s skin like that and he doesn’t even know that Julian is dating his ex now. Julian looks up at the stands, trying to find her in her seat. 

He finds her after a few minutes and sends a bright smile her way. He notices that she begins to smile too. What they both do not notice is Karim following Julians gaze. Only to find his ex-girlfriend in the stands. The one he cheated on, the one he still loves even if they never spoke again after breaking up. Karim looks from Julian to her, not really knowing how to feel about this development. Then again, it could mean nothing, they were already friends when she and Karim were dating. For now he’ll watch what’ll happen from the sidelines.
