about a year? just over a year now? my friend (who kind of got me into kpop) is a huge ahgase. like they’ve been one her top 2 groups (probably her ult until they left jyp) for a long time so it’s been… something I was tentative to approach bc I don’t know how to be a casual stan usually. Voicecasting the Debut or Die boys

Part 2- Seon Ahyeon

Next up in the series , we have Seon Ahyeon! He's mostly seen with dance roles, but looking at his status screen, his singing is at a B- with potential to reach A rank.

Personally I think he'd have a light and airy voice, think of the infamous JYP style of half air-half sound, where he'd sound sweet with a breathy tone? He's a soft spoken guy which I feel would flow into his singing style too. Since he trained with an angency presumably, he might've learned some stylistic techniques there as well, but I can't say for sure since he's more dance focused. He'd probably take sub vocalist roles, so mostly verse parts or providing harmonies with the main or lead vocals, though I won't be looking closely at positions for the voice casts. I'll be looking less at vocal technique and more at vocal texture since the airy sound is what I think about most when matching a voice to Ahyeon.

Starting off, my first pick for him is Wonpil of DAY6! His timbre is exactly how I'd imagine Ahyeon's singing voice, it has a tone of sweetness that I think Ahyeon would have. His voice is breathy without it being distracting, and its very melodic, giving a sort of weightless feeling to it. I think you can hear it in his parts in Congratulations. Also Wonpil in this clip specifically is exactly how I think Ahyeon's speaking voice sounds like.

Number two is DEAN, holy fuck when I say this is a close match, I am not lying. I was trying to find examples that weren't just JYP or ex-JYP artists and I really almost forgot this man. His R&B style of singing actually translates really well to the vocal texture I think Ahyeon would have, the sort of crooning that gives the airy feel. He's only number 2 because I think his style of singing is too loose for a kpop singer lol.

Pick number three is Yugyeom from GOT7! lmao we're back with another ex-JYP artist. I think he's got a light voice that sounds airy at points when singing. I think you can hear it best in You Calling My Name or Run Away. Also I know that I'm supposed to be voicecasting but it doesn't hurt that Yugyeom is a fantastic dancer too

hi!!! i am not too busy! i'm aghase for life so i am very happy to help you out here, got7 is seriously one of the best groups ever, and one of the top 2 groups to come out of jyp. it's crazy that they got it so right twice in a row. 2pm are, like, the godfathers of got7, and it is actually pretty endearing to see that some of them are very close! junho considers jinyoung of got7 his dongsaeng and they are very good friends (as seen on junho's most recent i live alone appearance). more under the cut!

anyways. so, got7 are, in age order: mark (rapper, visual, american member), jayb (leader, main vocal), jackson (main rapper, face of the group, chinese member), jinyoung (lead vocal, dancer, visual, center, face of the group), youngjae (main vocal), bambam (rapper, thai member), yugyeom (main dancer, vocal, maknae).

the entire rap line of got7 is the international line or called the atk (amerithaikong) line, which is insane if you think about it. entire rap line (rap!!!!) made of some dudes who aren't even performing in their first language. that takes guts and talents. every member in the group has either produced or written songs for got7, jaebeom is their primary producer, but so are jinyoung and youngjae. yugyeom, too. jinyoung has been known to choreograph for the group, and vigilantly monitors their performances. bambam is the most fashion forward member and it is all over his body of work, which is so exciting.

on top of it all, the members all have solo careers. jaebeom has  released under his stage name jay b (including the breakdancing he was known for in got7) and his producer tag Def. yugyeom is at AOMG, which houses LeeHi and GRAY, and has released quite a bit solo stuff. his collab with gray, all your fault, is absolutely brilliant and required listening. bambam is at abyss now, the same label sunmi is at, and has shown the world that he is a true allrounder. he is now a fixed cast member of variety show master in the house.

youngjae is at sublime, the very same company handling all of jackson's korean releases, and i just want them to finally make jjap jjap project a real thing. here they both are on youngjae's radio show, best friend! youngjae starred in midnight sun (musical) last year, and he starred in so not worth it, netflix's first korean sitcom, and it is as delightful as it sounds. his solo music is very poppy and cool; here is sugar, his latest comeback. youngjae is such a special case because he only trained for a few months after he got into jyp, and then debuted straight off the bat as the main vocal. he won awards in high school for his singing and he made it a point to often perform fully live (occasionally blowing out his voice in the process, but hey, that's dedication.)

jinyoung is the most established actor in all of got7. he most recently starred in the second season of yumi's cells, and the tvn drama The Devil Judge (HUGE recommendation). he had a cameo in the first episode of reborn rich, and starred in he is psychometric and when my love blooms. he has just released his first solo album, but his first ever solo release dive is outstanding. perfect pop rock.

mark has released an entire solo album, including the singles last breath, my life, and lonely. those songs are so mind-bogglingly good, it is hard to comprehend that got7's most introverted member just came out of the gate swinging right away.

their best albums imo are: spinning top, call my name, 7 for 7, breath of love, and the entire flight log trilogy that has to be seen as a full body of work.

flight log is got7's own, lore heavy narrative (like bts' most beautiful moment), that starts with flight log: departure and corresponding title track fly, is continued by flight log: turbulence and iconic got7 banger hard carry, and ends with flight log: arrival and the incomparable never ever. jinyoung is the protagonist of the story, and it is all very, y'know. life and death. very tragic and beautiful.

it’s safe to say that your bachelorette party has been officially ruined by none other than your soon to be husband. jorja is shocked by jungkook’s sudden appearance and outburst at the male dancers, your friends, and especially you.

when you hear your friends begging for jungkook to stop, your drunken self comes to and attempts to get jungkook off of the dancers but he just pushes you aside and keeps punching him until his knuckles split. “what the hell is going on?!” shouts the security guard who finally breaks up the fight and kicks jungkook out of the club but not without dragging you along with him.

“what the hell is wrong with you?! jungkook stop!” you say trying to get out of his grip and from afar you hear yerin shouting at jungkook for once again ruining your night.

she rushes up to you and grabs your other arm trying to snatch you back from jungkook who is still seething.

“you are such an insecure asshole!!” she yells at him. “you can never let y/n be great and live her life. doesn’t this feel like deja vu, y/n? because it does to me! this is exactly what happened when he called you a whore and wouldn’t let you just have fun. SHE’S NOT SOME FUCKING MAID WHO TAKES CARE OF YOUR SON WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE IT!!”

jorja and alina catch up with you all when they hear yerin shouting and although they don’t agree with what she’s saying, jorja does notice the toxicity of jungkook’s possessive aura. what was once cute has become dangerous in her eyes as she understands just why yerin hates his guts so much.

it was fun, everything was fun. girls have fun and so do men, hell, they took jungkook to a strip club so why is he so against you getting a dance too?

SO WHY SHOULD YOU? AND WHY SHOULD HE BE EXPECTED TO NOT REACT? “Yn she’s guilt tripping you! NO ONE IS PERFECT THIS WORLD, AND I KNOW I’M NOT- BUT I AM TIRED OF HER TREATING ME LIKE I’M SOME CRAZY BASTARD!” That is really frustrating, “yn no you’re going to want to leave me because of her! HOW DID YOU EXPECT ME TO REACT WHEN I SAW THAT VIDEO ON HER INSTAGRAM?” He says, blinking. How does he make you understand?

And why is she bringing up your past?

And why is she talking about his son? That is your personal business and he won’t allow anyone to interfere in his business. “Shut the fuck up. How dare you talk about my son like that? Do you honestly think that I think of the love of my life as a maid for him?! Wow yn.”

the woman shook her head once again and offered to bring appetizers. “n- on second thought,” the dancer tapped his fingertips on the table when he thought it over again. “bring whatever is good” now they wouldn’t have to wait for food to arrive even once his company decided to meet him. selfishly, yugyeom wanted to eat already. “many thanks,” he told the woman after she headed towards the kitchen, and he reached into his pocket to text or call his so called company when he spotted a familiar face. “yes!” he smiled and begun to clap. “right on time. i thought i would have to eat the appetizers alone.”

I was extremally hype when I saw the teasers. I listened to the song on Spotify before I watched the music video. The song was okay...just meh. Which was odd for me because I really do be vibing with all of Yugyeom's stuff. I listened to it twice and it didn't click with me. I usually bob my head to the beat or tap my foot. None of that was taking place as I sat and listened. So, I thought maybe if I saw Yugyeom dancing and singing to it, that would help...

Nope! I couldn't get through the whole music video. The women weren't doing anything for me. I'm so used to seeing a variety of people in music videos, so to see just a bunch of women that were all the same body type just put me off. Plus with Yugyeom being a dancer I really thought he would be just a bit more inclusive? Can we get some big booty ladies? Even if they had thicc thighs, anything! (not gonna lie it hurt a little bit) The mv was empty? I'm all for simplistic, but it didn't fit for the song.

I will say Yugyeom looked great though! That hairstyle was everything 👀

I read over the translated lyrics and liked them, surprisingly. Sadly, the music video just didn't match and I don't think the song was a good fit. (he could be experimenting for all I know, so 🤷🏽‍♀️) Something about it just didn't feel right. I don't know, but it's a flop for me.
