I am pleased to report that G.I. Robot is helping modern day Nazi's accidentally out themselves on Twitter. As in "it's so sad he killed his new best fwend so twagic."
To which everyone is responding, trying to get through to this guy. Every time he tries to say "oh I'm not a Nazi, but- (the most obvious fascist rhetoric you've ever seen)"
Which is retorted to with:
Tumblr media
Moral of the story, if you can't understand that being a Nazi in this day and age is a deeply shameful thing that could and should get your shit rocked, then maybe you are a Nazi. Anyone who would show up to a meeting to try re-start their political beliefs final solution deserves what they get.

Let this be a living example that knowing the beliefs of any individual who wrote any piece of text- be it literature, articles, or posts- can and should drastically alter your perception on what the text is actually communicating, even if that knowledge has, on its face, changed none of the actual printed words. This is how application of real-world context works, and this is how it applies to any recorded medium.
It reminds me heavily of a quote from video essayist Jacob Geller, regarding the 1938 film Olympia- "It's different when Nazis do it". Olympia is a film that, on its face, simply depicts an artistic documentation of the 1936 Berlin Olympics. But within the context of its production taking place during the Nazi regime, with its director being a well known Nazi propagandist... The way the movie fixates on the power and elegance of the human form and Ancient Greek statues quickly shifts from being completely innocuous appreciation to the worship of what is perceived as the ideal forms of the "Aryan race". Suddenly, you understand the movie not to be a pretty inoffensive documentation of a historical event, but a propaganda piece.
Understanding the time period in which something was made, as well as the setting it was produced in/for, and whatever ideologies an artist may hold and experiences they've had is absolutely critical to getting a full understanding of anyone's work. There are some things that are near completely anodyne on their face, but the revelation of what the author thinks and feels about other people and the world around them totally redefines every word on the page.
This image is such a prime example of why context matters. This opinion, laid bare, stripped of context, is both inoffensive and nonsensical. No one's ever thought it to be lame to create your own nickname... But on its own, that's a harmless kind of wrong. ... But with the addition of them being marked as Anti-Trans (red) on Shinigami Eyes, a browser extension dedicated to crowdsourcing keeping track of Trans Friendly and Transphobic creators... Suddenly, "Nicknames" doesn't mean "Nicknames" anymore. Suddenly, you realize that "Nicknames" is code for "Chosen Names of Trans People". Suddenly this isn't about thinking choosing your own nickname is lame, this is about thinking that trans people shouldn't have the right to name themselves. Suddenly it's about invalidating identities, thinking they're worth mocking. Thinking that people who identify as trans are "just trying to be cool", and that they're not actually what they say they are, because you don't get to choose your gender nickname, that's something already decided for you.
Suddenly, you realize, it's not about "being lame".
It's about Transphobic Violence.
This is why you cannot ignore when an artist, author, essayist, developer, musician- so on and so forth- is bigoted. This is why you can't ignore the context behind their upbringing. This is why you can't ignore the context behind their lived experience, their ideals, their goals, their message. Yes, it may appear innocent on its face. Yes, it may look fine stripped from the context of it being written by an inevitably flawed human being. But what's really being said here? What do those words mean... To the one who wrote them?
Context redefines Text.
Even if the words didn't change.

ive been out of the DIY loop for ages and google isnt helping, sorry for the ask. whats the deal with studs and spikes? they fash or something? that would suck ass.
No worries, ask box is open for a reason lol (my turn around time on answering is just extremely unpredictable and can be anywhere from a few hours to a few months)
Studs and spikes started selling iron crosses under their ‘badges and pins’ section. Iron crosses were a German military award under the Nazi regime. (Though they have roots in the Prussian military and a modified version is the symbol of the modern German military, though they are no longer an award).
Iron crosses were at some point adopted by bikers in the US for ‘shock value’ but in punk spaces, they are still heavily associated with white supremacy.
What studs and spikes sells (in a few more colors too):

So I see it every now and again and p sure that I might have a shirt with an iron cross (before We knew what it was) somewhere but just reminding y'all that this cross
Tumblr media
Is Nazi insignia. It's called the iron cross. See someone using it? Probs a Nazi. They didn't know? Just inform them. No point getting mad at the oblivious. We all start somewhere. Okay bye.

It is obviously important to be talking about the Nazi Salute Musk Rat did, but as a Jew does anyone reposting photos of it over and over and over and over again stop to think about how this feels? I can't go anywhere on social media right now without being flooded by pictures of an idiot doing a nazi salute. It's bad enough that he did it, as a direct target of the gesture I don't want to have to fucking see it. You're doing his work for him. It doesn't help getting equally bombarded with the gif of that nazi getting KO'd after saluting. This is very much a "You hate Nazis more than you love the people they hate" moment.

Your fave is anti-roma
youtube
The specific part of this video by @strange-aeons that discusses the black triangle.
While I am not accusing her herself of being anti-roma, this video mentions the Black triangle as a queer woman's symbol when it is NOT. I wanted to post this on Holocaust Remembrance Day but accidentally put it in drafts instead of queue.
First, lesbians were not persecuted by the Nazis. This is for the extremely sad fact that queer people with uteruses could still produce more Nazis (they did literally have a breeding program). As the US Holocaust Memorial Museum Online Encyclopedia states in their article on lesbians in the Third Reich:
The Nazis did not systematically prosecute or persecute lesbians solely because of their sexuality. Under the Nazi regime, there was no official law or policy prohibiting sexual relations between women. This is unlike the case of gay men.
When a lesbian was arrested, she was (except in the cases of two specific women who were not actually lesbians) part of one of the groups already targeted and separated under that group.
There were also only two groups sanctioned for extermination in the Final Solution: Jewish people and Roma. Roma were mostly designated with the black triangle, though in some camps they were also designated with brown.
At no point in the video does she mention this nor is there a comment explaining the correction (numerous other people have commented this).

I hate that the latest trad wife discourse fails to acknowledge that the idea originated with like...neo-nazis and white supremacists. Like it's not a new concept, it just was kept in the weirdo alt-right circles and not the mainstream. It's not, and has never been, a feminist move to identify with the label 'tradwife' because its alt-right shit.

The Nazi allegory with steam v.s. diesel again urrghh is very annoying but hey, it was the first draft of this WWII movie, so let’s hope that parallel is removed or at the least tweaked to be less iffy in later drafts, whenever those will be revealed.
Anyway, what about the rest of Shane Acker’s Thomas world? Apparently Sodor is its own separate fantasy world from ours, and Edward leads the main character Richard into the world. God bless him, and while I’m not sure if coaches would be a thing in this engine world, if people would visit this place, I do love this concept of this Narnia like paradise.
Something about Sodor being a real place to the mainstream general audience film demographic, delivered more maturely than the most overt references to the war in the franchise (which by the way was just mentioning Sir Norramby fought in the war while Duke was left in his shed) feels somewhat right. Like fanfics have done Thomas + war well, but those are mainly aimed at hardcore adult Thomas fans, and some try being too much. And anyway, how would you feel if in Narnia, we saw the animals of that world fighting in trenches, doing the jobs animals did IRL, just speaking as well? Like what? Would fucking Aslan be fighting a tank or some shit?
Now onto the character concepts, I adore the new characters. These war ships being characters are fun enough but two being a husband and wife is adorable, and this snowplough trucker girl engine sounds like a fun concept. Loading gauge restrictions doesn’t seem to be a big problem in this world so why not?
Oh and Gordon being a hero that disappeared from the public eye because of a conflict and returning near the end of the film just sounds just out there to work for a grand design as Gordon. If this Gordon’s anything like Gordon in RWS/T&F canon, he might just have done it due to being put out of action due to failure at saving the community or something.
And about Richard being mistaken for Thomas’ father, is this implying in this world that these engines were taken to this fantasy world? After being brought up by drivers and firemen, who drive them onto the tracks to adulthood, so to speak? Sounds like a cool concept, but I don’t know if I’m reading this right either.
Whatever, this early draft is just that. With most of what we have it’s fun.
Link below so you know what the fuck I’m talking about:
