... is an upcoming Choicescript interactive fiction game! You can follow development updates on the dev blog here, view the forum page here, and play the demo here.
Villain Intern is currently on Chapter One: Onboarding as of 9/8/24, sitting at just over 30,000 words.
[FAQ Here and character introductions here, for the newer villains!]
Play as an aspiring supervillain interning at UnderHand, a legacy criminal corporation. Start from the bottom and navigate a world where everyone has it out for you, leveraging your strange superhuman abilities and your knack for manipulation. Make a name for yourself as an executive villain (with your own swanky corner office!), or turn against your higher-ups and usurp the company,…or throw away your promising career for the greater good, I guess...
Powers and Customization:
Choose from two different ability trees. Play as either a homemade cyborg with (painful looking) mechanical augmentations of your own design, or a genetically mutated freak with mysterious, bizarre abilities derived from animal genes. Choose 3 of the 9 unique abilities available for each power type, which update (or mutate) to scale as you get stronger. Climb walls, perfectly mimic any voice, rotate your head 360 degrees, talk to the AI assistant in your brain, etc etc! As a rule, you start out villainous, but whether you’re charming or sinister, sniveling or demanding, and backstabbing or frontstabbing is up to you.
______________________________________________________________
Key Characters and Relationships
Relationship progression tracks two major stats- your connection with a character, and your rivalry, which are not mutually exclusive. So you can romance your greatest nemesis, backstab your closest friend, that kind of thing. Or both at once, with the same person, even..
Fellow Interns:
👾 Peter Hyde is your cubicle neighbor, a geeky slackoff who’s fond of novelty ties. Unlike you, Peter doesn’t really want to be here, but he seems for some reason unable to quit. Laid-back, conflict avoidant, and generally easy to manipulate, he’s easy minion material for the MC- but his attitude belies a volatile, monstrous secret. Which can be a great asset or a major risk, depending on if you can maintain your control over him.
🤖 T9-670 is a seven-foot tall ex-war machine. Once a military member conscripted to UnderHand’s private security decal, its contract didn’t end when it died- the soldier’s brain was transplanted into a humanoid steel frame with a dark glass plate for a face. T9 is doing some soul searching- it’s not totally sure if it even has one left, but it would like to have a purpose beyond fixing printers and mowing down UnderHand’s enemies with its plasma gun.
🔬 Dr. Dr. Elaine Foster is an up-and-coming mad scientist, assistant to the esteemed Dr. Shrink. Don’t bring up the fact that she has two doctorates and is still an intern. She’s a genius prodigy, but otherwise has no superhuman abilities, which causes her to be overlooked by your superiors. Passionate and inscrutable, she’s obsessed with making it to the top her own way, and will remain one step ahead of you if you aren’t careful.
🧪 Reid/Reney Sullivan (gender selectable, nb included) is your nemesis, or at least they think so. They’re employed by OverSight, the subsidized hero-corporation that works in tandem with the government. An interning hero with impressive telekinetic powers, they are nonetheless as much of an amateur as you, and so you find yourself on even footing with one of the most promising superheroes in the business. Earnest and witty, they genuinely just want to help people. Eventually, they become fixated on “figuring you out”, which can lead to them getting sucked into your schemes. That, or their meddling could be your downfall. Worst of all, they might even succeed in reforming you.
There’s also 👁️ Blink, a rogue superhuman- some say vigilante, others say independent villain. Completely anonymous, they wear a unique suit of tactical gear that allows them to turn completely invisible, the first of its kind. Quippy, chipper, and sauntering, they tend to use their powers for ridiculous, showy things like popping up behind newscasters on TV. An invisible superhuman that loves the spotlight, Blink is full of contradictions. And secrets, big ones, that pertain to you.
… plus a cast of older, more established villains and heroes- including The Man, UnderHand’s enigmatic CEO. A faceless, hollow man in an empty suit. Actually, nobody’s ever seen anything but the suit, so he might just be the suit.

brain freeze | sung hanbin
pairing: frozen yogurt worker! hanbin x regular customer! reader
genre: fluff, strangers to friends to lovers ?? kinda ??
word count: 5067
warnings: none i don't think! lowercase intended, not proofread, or even read or written in one sitting truthfully
notes: thank u to tiff for convincing me to write this after our zb1 as part time workers conversation, it's honestly rlly rough but i like the concept so :]] i hope u guys like it,, especially since ive been mia </3
"welcome to cosmic swirls! our frozen yogurt is over on that wall there and the toppings are just to the right! you can come up here when you're all ready and i can ring you up!"
the cheerful boy at the front counter beamed at you as you walked through the front door of the new frozen yogurt shop in town, gesturing to the other side of the store. you gave him a smile and a small thank you as you followed the bright-coloured walls towards the frozen yogurt. after a long day at work, you couldn't help but give in to the temptation of trying the new sweet treats just across the street from your work.
the shop was lined with bright purple and blue paint and star decals, a wall filled with every topping you can imagine, and the plethora of flavours of frozen yogurt that lined where you stood. there was a faint hum of whatever tune was playing on the radio, and you could faintly hear the cute worker shuffling around at the counter. you honestly weren't expecting it to be so empty, but how many people were getting frozen yogurt on a thursday night, right?
"hmm," you wondered aloud, browsing the options in front of you, unable to decide on just one.
"i recommend the cotton candy!" the cute boy chimed up, watching as you admired the machines in front of you. "ooh, i like the sound of that," you smiled, grabbing a cup and filling it with the frozen dessert. you added a few simple toppings before walking over to the counter where the boy stood.
after ringing you up and paying for your treat, the boy, who you've noticed is named hanbin, judging by his name tag, speaks up. "hope you like my recommendation!" a wide smile crosses his face, gesturing to the pink and blue swirled frozen yogurt in your cup.
"and if i don't?" you teased, giving hanbin a mischievous grin. "well," he pondered for a moment, "then i owe you a new one! but i bet you'll love it, scouts honour!"
you let out a laugh at the boy with his hand up in the air, "well i'll keep you updated." you laughed again as you went to go sit down, scrolling through your phone as you tried the frozen yogurt, pleasantly surprised at how good it was. i guess that's why everyone's been talking about this place lately, you thought to yourself.
finishing up your treat, you threw out the cup and walked back to the counter, getting hanbin's attention. "so?" he started, a smile on his face as he waited to hear your review.
"hated it!" you said, joking around with the boy as a laugh passed your lips. he feigned offence, a hand coming to his chest dramatically as if you had personally struck his heart. "no way!! how could you!" the two of you burst into a fit of giggles, drawing the attention of the lone couple in the corner before covering your mouth with your palm.
calming down a bit, you continued, "guess i'll just have to come back and try a different flavour next time!" you insisted.
"i guess you will!"
and you did. in the coming weeks, you found yourself returning to the shop more times than you could consider normal. every time, trying a new flavour than before. had to give it all a shot right? even if some nights left you with a cup of half-eaten frozen yogurt or more toppings than dessert in an attempt to drown out a flavour you weren't particularly fond of.
what you had grown quite fond of though was the boy behind the counter. hanbin. over the weeks you had gotten to know hanbin a bit; often you were there late, one of the last people there at that time, which gave you two time to talk and get to know each other a bit.
what you had learned was that hanbin was a dancer outside of his daily employment. most of the time his paychecks went to different classes with teachers he admired. something about "wanting to learn from the best." you also learned that he had a small hamster plushie that he kept behind the counter with him, even got him a miniature apron that you could only imagine he stole from a small doll. but sometimes kids would come in and he'd show off his little friend, loving to watch the way they got excited over the worker hamster. it was cute. he was cute.
and with that thought clouding your brain like an all too familiar brain freeze, you walked through the familiar front doors yet again, the jingle of the bell signaling your entrance had become something you were sure you'd hear in your dreams.
"on time as usual," hanbin smiled at your familiar face, "what flavour are you going to try today?" he questioned as he watched you saunter over to the machines, grabbing a cup before staring them down. "is the coconut any good?"
"never tried it honestly," he said simply, leaving you shocked. it was the first flavour so far that he hasn't had, "heard it's good though! you'll have to let me know!" his usual smile plastered on his face, you once again end up mirroring his expression, "guess i'll have to get it then!"
you found yourself at what you considered your usual table now, the one closest to the front counter. you like to tell yourself it was because it was convenient but you know it was just so it was easier to talk to hanbin. but that wasn't a crime!
a few minutes had passed and hanbin found himself sitting with you at the table, a now regular occurrence when there were no other customers around. "how is it?"
you plunged the spoon into the dessert, holding it up to the boy, "give it a try," you hadn't really thought about the intimacy of your offer, but hanbin didn't give it a second thought as he took a bite off of your spoon, letting out a hum of approval. "not too bad." he said, covering his mouth.
like many other nights, the two of you let your conversations run freely, only stopping to glance at the time on your phone; 11:05.
"shit hanbin," you quickly stood up, grabbing your phone and cup, "i didn't mean to keep you past close. i'm sure you wanna go home after a long day." you can't help but shake your head at your innate ability to get lost in time.
he let out a chuckle at your sudden urgency, "hey no rush, i honestly like the company, it gets pretty lonely here at night." his reassurance helped calm your guilt for a moment, "plus there's not much left to do to close up." he stacked the final chairs, the ones you had been sat at, as he continued. "but it's getting late, you should be heading home, no?" he sounded almost worried at you being out so late, and your heart swelled a bit at the thought.
"yeah i probably should head back," you let out a small sigh at the idea of ending the night with hanbin, "sorry again hanbin, and please get home safe." you gave him a sheepish smile as you turned on your heel to leave.
"make sure you get home safe too! what would i do without my favourite customer?" he joked, not knowing the way your heart skipped a beat at being called his favourite.
you were running out of excuses, or rather flavours; reasons to be at the frozen yogurt shop as much as you were.
"what are you gonna do when there's nothing new to try?" hanbin laughed, watching as you had narrowed it down to your last few choices of untouched flavours.
"die, maybe." you say nonchalantly, earning a laugh from the boy at the counter, finding your dramatics endearing. "you could just try every combination of flavours with every topping." hanbin suggested, a smug smile on his face.
you laughed, shaking your head, "hanbin that would take forever."
"and?" he questioned, "just means more time with me!"
he did have a good point, as silly as the idea sounded. you'd honestly do anything to give you an excuse to hang out with the boy more. except actually asking him out, of course.
what you didn't know was that despite the jokes, hanbin was honestly hoping you would take the idea somewhat seriously. one or two more guaranteed visits did not sound like enough time for him to finally gain the courage to ask you out, or even to get your number, so he felt like he needed all the time he could get.
you weren't the only one who had grown fond of your frequent visits. you had quickly become the thing hanbin looked forward to every week. it had only been a few months of small chats across counters and plastic tables, but hanbin could've sworn he was falling for you, at least in some capacity.
so instead of either of you asking the other out, you just sat together again like every visit, giggling and talking about anything and everything, sometimes even sharing bites of your dessert as you rambled on about an interaction at work that day. it was the least you could give him for listening to your rants.
instead of leaving when you were finished, you took it upon yourself to help with stacking the chairs, hopefully as an apology for always keeping the boy so late.
he couldn't help but smile at the gesture, "you don't have to do that y/n, i'm the one who works here not you." you simply smiled and shook your head, "but it gives me an excuse to stay here with you longer," you finished stacking the last table on your side of the room, "plus it's the least i could do."
"well i appreciate it," a shy smile spread across his face, trying to mentally stop a blush from rising to his cheeks at the thought of you wanted to stay with him longer. god i need to hurry up and ask them out. the thought echoed in his brain as he grabbed the key to lock up, walking with you to the door in a comfortable silence.
you both said your goodbyes, waving as you split off in opposite directions. you spent your walk home that night thinking more about the boy than usual, and as if connected telepathically, hanbin happened to have you at the forefront of his mind the whole drive home. not that he was complaining.
this was the time, hanbin reassured himself. this was when he'd finally ask you out, give you his number, get your number. something. anything. but as he watched the hands on the clock move at an agonizing pace, seemingly taunting him, he couldn't help but second guess himself.
in the midst of his self doubt, the familiar chime rang through the quiet store, right on schedule. and in you walked, dressed up nicer than usual. not that you didn't look great all the time to hanbin, but you looked particularly nice this evening.
"bad news hanbin," you said, walking up to the counter, "i have to take it to go tonight," your lips pressed into a frown. he looked quizzically at you, urging you to continue. "heading to my brother's graduation." you continued simply.
"and yet you still came in for frozen yogurt?" he questioned, a small chuckle escaping his lips. "well i didn't wanna miss my flavour this week," you exclaimed, as if making a very obvious point, "plus i don't think i could go a whole extra week without seeing you, c'mon now."
you kept talking as you filled up your first cup, one of the last flavours that you hadn't tried. setting it on the counter, you started grabbing the second, taking the opportunity to surprise your brother with some of the frozen yogurt you had been raving about.
tapping your card on the machine, and saying your farewell, you turned to leave the small shop and head on your way. but not before hanbin could stop you.
"wait!" he called out, quickly jogging up to you with a napkin in hand, "you might need this, for the road," a hand came to the back of his neck, rubbing sheepishly. "and uh, one minute." he quickly rushed to the back of the shop, where you assumed he kept his things, reemerging from the back door with a jacket in hand. "it's cold out there, staying warm is important, especially if you're eating frozen yogurt."
he lightly placed the jacket around your shoulders, letting the fabric drape along your frame. he took a second to catch his breath, partially from the running back and forth, and partially from the sight of you in his jacket. he quickly tried to peel his eyes off of you before his thoughts got the best of him, and luckily, that led hanbin to miss the way your cheeks heated up at the gesture.
after a moment of silence and thumping hearts, you said your goodbyes once more, accompanied by a thank you from yourself as you headed out the door.
as opposed to the usual, this time you found yourself sitting with your brother indulging in the sweet treat. "since when did you wear jackets like that?" your brother inquired, glancing over the clearly oversized mens jacket. you tried to shrug the question off, attempting to act nonchalant, "since today i guess." you brought the spoon up to your mouth to take another bite, avoiding any further answers.
"y/n, how dumb do you think i am." your brother chuckled, shaking his head at your poor attempt at an excuse, "who gave it to you?"
you quickly gave up on the facade, knowing you couldn't lie to your brother. "just the guy from the frozen yogurt place," your voice trailed off as you watched a shit-eating grin spread across his face. "i've never heard of a frozen yogurt place lending jackets to customers, or any business really." he said sarcastically, laughing at the way your face quickly heated in embarrassment, only stopping to continue teasing you.
"so do you like this boy?" he asked, as if your reaction hadn't given it away. you gave a shy nod as you hummed a confirmation, not only admitting it to your brother but also to yourself. "well as long as he treats you right, i approve, otherwise he better watch out, i bet i could take him anyways."
you couldn't help but laugh at your brothers weak attempt at intimidation, even getting a bit of frozen yogurt on your face in the process, causing your brother to erupt into laughter himself. "hold on," you reached into the pocket of the jacket, pulling out the napkin hanbin had given you as you were leaving, only now you had noticed something you didn't earlier.
there was something scribbled on the napkin. a number. hanbin's number, next to a small scrawled note reading, "in case you ever want to get some real food." a small heart outlined beside the message, even a small tear where the pen had ripped through the thin napkin.
you couldn't wait to get home that night. as soon as you had gotten into the comfort of your room, you grabbed the napkin again, quickly unlocking your phone and typing in the series of numbers messily written across.
"hey, it's y/n ^^" you typed simply, hoping the emoticon didn't feel too awkward as you couldn't stop your heart from beating out of your chest. the feeling of unstoppable palpitations only amplified as you watched the typing bubble quickly appear on the other side of the screen.
the seconds seemed to slow as you watched the typing bubble disappear, only to reappear once more before a message rang through.
"y/n! how'd your brother's graduation go??"
you quickly typed back a reply, giving a positive recollection of the night, selectively withholding the small confessional about the boy you were texting.
you spent your night getting ready for bed at a slower pace than usual, every minute or so your phone would ding with a message from hanbin, and you couldn't stop yourself from reaching for your phone to respond.
before you knew it, hours had gone by and through blurry eyes you faintly read out the time; 3:47am.
"hanbin,," you typed, pressing send on the short message for suspense, "did you realize it's nearly 4am"
his reply came faster than you thought, "shit don't you have to work in the morning?" you thought it was endearing that despite you both being awake, he was still worried about your wellbeing and rest.
after saying goodnight and tucking yourself into bed for the last time that night, you let yourself drift off, thoughts of the boy still swirling around your brain as you fell into a deep sleep.
after the longest friday of your life, you finally got to return to the comfort of your home, and you couldn't have been more thankful. checking the time and noticing that hanbin would still be at work, you decided to do a bit of self-care. as silly as it sounded, you just wanted the time to pass so you could talk to him more.
a nice hot shower and face mask later, and your phone dinged with a message.
"guess who's off for the weekend!" hanbin's name and photo popped up accompanying the message.
"hmm, me?" you typed, laughing as you pressed send, getting an excited "no way!! you too??" in response.
you spent the rest of your evening texting the boy while you listened to the white noise of whatever tv show was quietly playing in the background. that was until, hanbin asked if you wanted to call.
with an overly eager yes, you watched his name pop up again, this time your finger hovering over the answer button as you heard your ringtone blare through your speakers.
"hanbin~" you dragged out, nearly hearing the boy smile on the other end. "y/n~" he mirrored, a small chuckle escaping his lips after.
the conversations carried on into the deep hours of the night, yawns interrupting your thoughts as the time went on, leading hanbin's voice to become laced with concern.
"are you getting sleepy?" he questioned softly, his tone almost putting you to sleep in itself. you responded with a faint hum and nod, even if he couldn't see you. "go to sleep, love. don't let me keep you up." he muttered, keeping quiet as to not wake you.
in your tired state you couldn't quite process the pet name, but you were sure it would plague your mind once you were more awake.
you attempted to mutter back an argument, but before you knew it, your eyes had fallen shut to the sound of hanbin mumbling about something you couldn't quite make out.
hanbin thought it was cute; your faint snores and soft rustling in your sleeping state. he stayed on the call for a while before hanging up, leaving you to sleep peacefully. deciding it was time to head to bed himself, he got comfy in bed and opened your messages for one last time that night.
"sleep tight <3 didn't wanna accidentally wake you so i hung up." he pressed send, hovering over the keyboard for one last message, one that left his heart pounding through his chest. "and uh," he typed out, "if you're free today, maybe we can go to that diner downtown, or anywhere really, if you'd like... okay goodnight!"
he breathed out a sigh as he sent the last message, worry and self doubt taking over his mind as he considered the possibility of you rejecting his offer. but it was too late now, the message had been sent and now all he had to do was wait.
what would usually be a peaceful morning was anything but; as soon as the morning fog in your mind cleared, the night before had flooded back to you in a flash, embarrassment taking over as you failed to remember hanging up or saying goodnight before falling asleep. the only thing your brain could remember was a faint "go to sleep love" echoing over and over in hanbin's soft voice, driving you to near insanity as you opened your phone to a few notifications from the boy himself.
it only took a moment of skimming past the words on your screen before you were eagerly typing a response, accepting the offer to go out followed by a brief apology for falling asleep.
instead of a typing bubble appearing on your screen, it was a call answer screen, which you answered without much thought.
"morning~" you singsonged, hearing hanbin shuffle before responding with a raspy, sleep ridden "good morning y/n."
you swore your head was spinning at the new tone from hanbin, an unexpected change from his usual cheery voice. you took a moment to collect your thoughts before speaking up again, "d'you just wake up?"
he hummed in response, hearing his run this hand through is hair. "then why'd you call me silly?" you questioned, wondering if he had considered just typing a response when he was more awake.
"wanted to hear your voice," he sleepily mumbled, not quite aware of his own confession until it had already left his lips. you muttered a small "oh," taking another moment to process what the boy had said before attempting to come up with a response. you stuttered out a small chuckle and a teasing "well here i am" before switching the subject.
once hanbin was a bit more awake, the two of you confirmed your plans for the day; deciding that hanbin would come pick you up around 5pm and you'd go head out to a diner for some food. "it's a date," you exclaimed, your smile audible through the phone, causing hanbin to smile in return, unknown to you.
"sounds perfect," he hummed, "see you then y/n."
anxiously checking the clock for the nth time, you read the seemingly unchanging time; 4:55pm. you couldn't help but fiddle with the hem of your jacket, or rather hanbin's jacket, in an attempt to calm your nerves. the faint lingering smell of his cologne on the jacket helped ease your mind as you awaited the boy's arrival.
a few minutes had passed while you were lost in your thoughts, only pulled out from your endless what if's by a knock at the door.
you opened the door you had been pacing in front of, leaving the boy to come into view. what you hadn't considered until this moment in time was that this was your first time seeing him out of the bright-coloured uniform and apron he usually adorned at the frozen yogurt shop. instead he sported a loose fitting white t-shirt, a light wash jean jacket atop his shoulders. he looked good.
"oh hi," you managed to stutter out, trying to pick up your jaw that was hanging open. "you look nice," you muttered, eyes trailing over his frame, stopping for a moment on a tattoo that hadn't been visible in his usual attire. a delicate celestial scene placed between his collarbones, lying between the chains of a dainty rose necklace that lay on his chest.
he let out a shy chuckle at the compliment, taking notice of your wandering eyes, "hey that's my line!" he said, almost flustered as he looked over your figure hiding in his jacket yet again. "but really, you look great y/n," he smiled, "you might look better in that jacket than i do."
you simply scoffed in denial and shook your head before the boy spoke up once more, "oh, these are for you," he gestured to the flowers you only just now realized were in his hands. a small bouquet decorated with carnations and roses, small blooms of baby's breath scattered between.
a small gasp escaped your chest as you admired the bright flowers, "they're beautiful hanbin, thank you, you really didn't have to." he simply smiled, muttering a "but i wanted to," which caused you to blush as you welcomed him inside for a moment.
"let me just put these in a vase and we can go!"
hanbin took a moment to admire your cozy home. the walls adorned with simplistic art and photography, small succulents littering every surface you could find room. it felt so unapologetically you, and he loved it.
"your place is gorgeous," he smiled, his eyes, and subsequently his legs, following behind you into the kitchen. you muttered a small thank you, chatting briefly about a recent piece you had thrifted for the quaint apartment, and hanbin couldn't help but smile at the joy radiating off of you as you talked about something you loved.
once your new flowers were safe in a vase on your counter, you followed hanbin out to his car; the boy even opening your door for you. "what a gentleman," you chuckled, smiling and speaking a soft "thank you" as you looked around the car. it was nice; the air freshener smelled like citrus and sitting snug in the cupholder was none other than the small hamster plush you had seen at the frozen yogurt shop, no longer adorning the small apron.
"so you really do take him everywhere," you let out a small giggle at the boy's surprisingly adorable antics as he got into the drivers seat. he only smiled sheepishly in return, "well of course, i can't leave him at work that wouldn't be fair, now would it?"
the two of you burst into a fit of giggles as the car started up, the radio beginning to quietly play some r&b tune; you even found yourself bopping your head to the unfamiliar song as you and hanbin made easy conversation, as usual. the only difference this time was your eyes were trained on hanbin's hand on the wheel, the other resting on the console between the two of you.
you couldn't lie; watching hanbin drive so relaxed, his gaze shifting from the road ahead to you periodically. it was nearly enough to take your breath away. it was hard to believe that months ago, he was just the guy who worked at the frozen yogurt shop you decided to stop in to check out, and now you were here, in his car, on your way to what you hoped was considered a real date.
it wasn't long before the two of you had arrived to the diner; hanbin being the gentleman he was, nearly raced out of the car just to come open your door for you. it was endearing.
"finally some sustenance," you laughed, eyeing up the plate of food in front of you, "can't live off of frozen yogurt forever."
"i always wondered why you're in there so often," hanbin let his thoughts slip his mind and past his mouth, "not that i'm judging though," he quickly continued, " just seems like you'd get sick of frozen yogurt by now"
he was partially right; there was only so much frozen yogurt one person could handle. only so many brain freezes one could endure. "honestly," you popped a fry in your mouth, "i kind of am, that's why i always get a different flavour," you said matter-of-factly, "but it helps that you're there," your voice trailed off at the end, almost embarrassed by the words leaving your mouth.
hanbin seemed rather happy with your answer, a smug smile pulling at the corners of his mouth, "are you saying you've been coming to the shop to see me?" the confident tone in his voice made your brain spin, watching as he proudly took a sip of his milkshake as he awaited whatever response you could come up with.
you nervously bit your lip as you tried your hardest to form a coherent thought, "well i mean," you paused, "look at you, i'm sure you're a huge draw in for customers," you pushed out a small laugh to prevent yourself from humiliating yourself in front of the boy.
"y/n," hanbin smiled again, somehow more smug than before despite his cheeks now flushing a light shade of pink, "are you calling me attractive?"
the accusation nearly made you choke on your drink as you realized the implication of your earlier statement; and sure, it's what you were thinking, but it's not exactly what you meant to say.
deciding there was no going back now, you simply muttered a quiet agreement, hoping that would be enough for the boy. it wasn't.
"sorry what's that? i couldn't hear you," he teased, enjoying the way your ears turned bright red under the dim overhead lights. this time you lightly cleared your throat, repeating the confirmation at an audible volume. "god you're cute," hanbin muttered, lightly shaking his head at your endearing antics.
you let out a laugh for the nth time that night, "is that what you tell all your customers hanbin? that's quite the way to get sales." it was your turn to tease the boy, wanting to see just how serious he was about it all.
"only the customers i have a crush on," he said plainly, smiling as he watched your jaw drop at the blatant confession. it was as if your brain had effectively shut down, or maybe short circuited. some other form of brain freeze, perhaps? you couldn't decide as it took what felt like forever for your brain to come up with a quip.
trying to keep the light atmosphere, you continued joking around, "that's not going to get you employee of the month, you know."
hanbin only reached across the table, placing a hand on top of yours; and you could've sworn your skin was on fire at the contact. looking up at you with a sincere look in his eyes, you struggled to keep eye contact with the pretty boy sitting in front of you. it felt like you were melting under his gaze.
"well i have other priorities now," he breathed out, his voice quieter than before, "and number one on the list is making you mine."

thinking about this idea again. got some more concepts for y'all.
the story would be from an outsiders pov, im ranchers forever so I'm thinking jimmy, but scar and tango have the strongest most codependent independent relationship alive. jimmy is in a party a la DND, he's a magic user of some sort, also in his party is Joel, Lizzie, and grian.
also this gets long so rest is below the cut
Jimmy and the party hear about these shopkeepers who hold the most unique wares you'll ever find. Ideas created by both, engineered by one, usually sold by the other. The shopkeepers are a little off though, so keep your wits about you.
They need some unique weapons/tools for fighting some big bad, so they hit up the shop.
It's dim, hazy, drapes of crimson fabric strewn across the walls. It's unclear what covers a doorway and what covers a wall. Wayward light ignites gold decals, polished to the nines. the party creeps in, grian in the lead because jimmy pushed for checking out the shop but got nervous at the door.
"welcome!" a drawling voice echoes from seemingly everywhere. a man (?) swooshes through fabric. He's dressed like he's a part of the shop, or maybe that the shop is a part of him. He introduces himself as scar, and his teeth and ears are too sharp to be human. His eyes have grey-blue sclera like a vex, but his skin is pink like a red-blooded creature. True to his name, his visible skin is coated in scars - any other identifiable features are hidden beneath his beautiful, expensive-looking garb.
Grian loves a challenge, so he immediately banters it up with scar. The adventurers explore the shop, seeing all sorts of bits and bobs they never imagined, and leave with these weird grenades that grian is just buzzing to try out. Scar does his best to sell them on some dyed glass he insists are crystals, but none of them bite.
It becomes a habit to visit the shop whenever they're in town. They ask the locals about them, because who wouldn't, and only gain more questions from it. The second owner rarely makes appearances, but not for fear of strangers; he just spends all of his time making things, including countless farms that supply the locals with stuff like cobwebs or paper. The local seamstress is trying to make spider-silk clothing.
However, on the off chance that the second owner DOES appear (a fiery man-shaped creature named tango), you should buy something. He's AWFUL at bartering, which usually will leave the customer with the better deal, but he'll also talk your ear off about the knickknacks. The townsfolk joke that it's a trade of hours of their time for a random free gadget. He also swears by the "crystals", and wears an orange one strung around his neck.
It takes months, but one visit they enter the shop and there's a not-man sitting on the counter. Fire wafts from his head, the backs of his hands, and the tops of his feet. The rest of his body looks fuzzy at the edges. He wears open sandals, loose, draping clothing, and has bare arms. Despite the fire, nothing around him ignites. Scar frequently nudges into his space and remains burn-free. His clothing doesn't have a scorch mark on them.
"Friends!" Scar greets, which makes grian pout, because grian enjoys the attempt to startle scar every time they visit.
The man is introduced as tango, which the party recall is the name the townsfolk mentioned. Jimmy is immediately entranced. Tango is a veritable firework, beaming and giggling, snarking at scar without faltering on the gears between his hands.
Joel asks the tactless, "what are you?" which just makes tango and scar laugh and laugh and laugh. They don't answer, but the others don't realize this until several hours later.
The two arent always open. But the party grows close enough with them that they've seen the two outside of the shop, but it's rare. They're like wisps, or ghosts tethered to a location. It can be easy to forget their abnormal bits when scar stumbles and knocks over an entire rack of potions, or when tango loses a dice game against Joel and makes a sputtering human groan. But then scar will twitch just so, and tango will still and cock his head, and the party remembers.
At one point the big bad that the party is helping take out sets it's sights on the shop's city. Many evacuate, tango and scar with them. The adventurers meet with them as they're packing, worried about their friends. Will they have a safe place to go? Are they okay, leaving their life's work behind like this? Can the party help in any way?
Scar reassures them that they'll be fine. It's not the first time they've moved about. "It's not like we sprouted from the bedrock here!" He's joking, but the others hadn't been sure if tango and scar weren't, like, some nature spirits of the area.
Tango, lugging a chest far too heavy for his frame, huffs and puffs into view. Jimmy rushes over to help - tango thanks him, patting him on the arm, and jimmy glows. Tango adds, "we'll be fine, we're going to the deep dark."
The big bad was clunky and loud, so it would get the attention of every warden for miles. Even it couldn't handle a swarm of wardens.
This information made the party even more nervous, to which scar and tango laughed. This is when they learned that tango manned a game that reached the depths, a gauntlet that caused death, or great riches if you made it out alive.
The adventurers had heard of decked out from their mutual friend pearl, but it was a horrific dungeon, to them. What crazy person would dive into a den of ravagers and wardens, armor and item-less, just for the glory of it all?
Scar added that he just loved playing, even though he died to good ol' dunga dunga dunga every other run. The two bid them all farewell, while the party reeled and tried to process that scar died. regularly. and he was still here.
So, no, the two weren't normal. They could communicate with merely a glance. Their smiles stretched too wide sometimes, and the party swore their eyes glowed in the dark.
Their shop was filled with copper gears, oxidized and not; occasionally they coated it in blood-red drapes, to "shake things up". Tango makes it too dim, scar makes it too bright. They have differing personalities but can look like twins in the way they react to things.
Just. Scar and tango cryptids. Owning a shop together. Weirding out adventurers.
#idk their ship name bleh#ik this has ranchers but its like . scar and tango are bonded deeper than anything#scar and tango have twin souls. jimmy and tango get into a romantic relationship. they r not the same#but they r both still present !#something somthing relationships r complex webs#i LOVE this au. ruminating on this vibe#brought to you by scar saying 'is that tang tang?' when tango goes to frogger in one of his hc episodes#scar and tango are so so special to me. if u guys have any scartango video recs send them my way please please please

*clears throat and leans into the mic* oc update. *disappears*
Hey!
So. I figured out a bit more about my shadow company oc, and I need to share it so here’s what it is:
I decided I didn’t want him to be a soldier, we already have plenty of those, and I know we already have a medic. I was originally thinking about making him a cook, because someone has to cook for all this hungry babies, right??? WRONG. They can make their own food for themselves and for others. What these lil fellas really need, is some gosh dang THERAPY. So he’s gonna be a therapist and help his precious buddies😌
As another thing relating to therapy, he’s pretty adamant about them not bottling up their feelings, and finding some way to unleash their feelings. If they don’t want to talk about it, he’s turned an empty office room into a rage room where they can safely destroy things (The walls do not count PIXEL. You will break your fist, PIXEL.) My oc has made sure to provide safety gear, and has had soldiers bring back items from the war zone so that the soldiers can take care of pent up energy.
However, if they DO want to talk about it, he would love to sit down and talk with them! Nothing will be shared outside of his office, and he makes sure that they can feel as comfortable as they can.
He’s also REALLY good with his hands. In a crafty way, of course. He’ll often spend most of his free time making plushies, pillows, bean bags, and other things for soldiers. He’s very skilled, and very sneaky about finding out what soldiers would like, in ways ranging from having others ask about it, to sneaking the question into the end of a session. He’ll often make something for someone while they’re on a mission, and then when they come back, he’ll either give it to them personally, or they’ll find it on their bunk with a little note :) Unfortunately due to the danger that’s normally present on missions, there has been a few times where he’ll be waiting outside of the transport vehicle with the thing he made for them, watching for the soldier to exit, only to find out that they died on the mission. He knows how to handle his own grief of course, but that doesn’t make it hurt any less.
I had started thinking about what I wanted his first name to be, (because he’s not a soldier so he doesn’t have a callsign or a number) and the first name that came to mind was Adam, and I couldn’t think of anything else so… he finally has a name now! 🥳 I also decided that his last name will be Takker, which is pronounced ‘Tah-care’
Also, here’s a plushie I decided that he would make based off this dog toy that I found!
Plushie Grandpa Russell the Opossum!! Of course, the head wouldn’t be made of rubber, but I’m sure you get the idea 😅 This is just one of the things that Adam would make, including bean bags and other things. He’s also good at painting and stuff and has even drawn on his knife that he has for self defense so it’s a neat little custom decal knife ^^
I feel like he would definitely enjoy having a family, he in fact has a sweet wife who works part time on weekends and bakes him things to take to work and to his friends, and one adorable little girl who he brings to work on ‘bring your kid to work’ day. Her name is Asher, and she carries around this little unicorn plushie that Adam made for her 🥰
I will eventually draw him. (Eventually could be anywhere from today to 5 years later)
@pampanope @mrsphillipgraves @whitewolfmystery @theseareregularthoughts
#Adam Takker (Shadow Company OC)#shadow company#cod shadow company#shadow company oc#phillip graves#cod modern warfare#cod mw2#cod mw3#cod#call of duty#pixel (cod oc)#The reason why I saved his name for last was because I started working on this#went onto something else#And came back after I had decided on his name and was too lazy to rearrange the order of things

Roronoa Venus- Hungry Days 1
New Friends, and Past Humiliation
One day after school, Roronoa Zoro was pondering a thought over kendo practice. His fraternal twin sister, named Venus, was always lonely; not to mentioned bullied frequently. Other than him, and their parents, she had no one to fall back on. No one to hang out with her during lunch, or after school hours. It didn't help that she was almost cripplingly shy; she had been for as long as he can remember, so he always protected her. Bullies mockingly called him her bodyguard in times like this, but he couldn't care less.
He himself had friends; Franky, Robin, Brook, Nami, boy genius Chopper, Usopp, and the group leader Luffy. Plus Sanji, to an extent... he shook his head in irritation at the blond Casanova wannabe. He didn't know them for that long, but they were all good people... even if Sanji was overeager with every pretty girl in school. What if Venus could join their little circle? Surely they would accept her; and she would finally have friends.
Huffing in fatigue, he set the bamboo shinai on its hooks hung on his bedroom door, and walked down the upstairs hallway to the room next to his. After a minute of waiting, the music from her electric violin had slowed a stop, before he heard her set it down. "Venus?" He knocked on the black-painted door. "Can I talk to you about something?
"Sure, come on in." He opened up, and lingered at the doorway. "What's up?"
One thing to know about his sister: She was a Goth girl. A "Mall Goth", to be precise. They both had queen-size beds with storage drawers, and black exteriors, but hers had a black dress-like canopy hung above the cushioned headboard, over an arch-shaped decal featuring the night sky with a full moon, so it wasn't hidden by the black wall. The window seat, and the small black tent, which was printed with white bats, were littered with small pillows, and stuffies, as was her bed around where her head laid. There were large moon and star shaped lights dangling front of the window, and alongside various cosmetics, her vanity had 4 different jewelry holders, one for more than just earrings. There was also a black and purple jewelry box with multiple sections for rings, bracelets, chokers, and... tragus earrings.
Now, she didn't have either of them pierced, but she planned on having the left done on their 18th birthday. What possessed her to have such a crazy idea, he still couldn't comprehend, but he didn't want to stop her. After all, it was her decision, and their parents approved of the idea when it was first pitched. And he supposed it was better than her actual face; their parents would each have an aneurysm if she came home with a ring in her septum.
"Well, tomorrow after homework, my friends and I are going to the mall for... stuff."
She nodded, while sitting on her bed. "Okay, hope you have fun-"
"Wait," He cut her off, "Do you want to come, Venus?"
Her eyebrows raised in genuine surprise under her green, asymmetrical bangs. "Really? Me?"
"Is there anyone else here named Venus?" He smirked coyly, earning a playful eye roll from her. "There's two girls in my group; you can shop around with them, and you could find some friends in all of them. You did just get paid, didn't you? And you're off tomorrow?"
"Y-yeah," She replied, "I did, and I am." In the same mall, she worked at a shop specializing in the Goth lifestyle, mostly stuff that was wearable, but with the occasional home decor, and some items revolving around witchcraft such as crystals. Basically, it was her dream job, despite it being only part-time, and even with occasional rude customers, she loved it there. "You really want me to come?"
"Yeah, if you want."
"But... what if they won't like me?"
"They will. Trust me; you'll fit right in."
After a moment of silence, she nodded, as a smile grew. "I'd love to."
"Okay. You can meet them during lunch before we go."
"Deal. Do they already know I'm coming?"
"Yeah, I texted them earlier, in our group chat. They're all good with it, as long as you're wanting to come. And they're eager to meet you."
"Awesome; feeling's mutual."
-
The next day, as the hours ticked by, Venus felt excited, yet nervous at the same time. She was going to not only meet Zoro's friends, but also hang out with them! But... what if they actually didn't like her, despite his assurance? What if they thought she was too strange? Or quiet? She never fit in anywhere, especially here at school; despite the love she received, she felt like the black sheep even in her family.
Before long, lunchtime came. Time to meet the friends. As she walked to the cafeteria with Zoro, her heart beat faster in her chest. He noticed her troubled expression, and her hands being more fidgety than usual. "You okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm... just nervous."
"You'll be fine. They'll like you; I know it." They joined the line in the room, him watching for any bullies on the prowl. His heart boiled with fury at a certain, lilac-haired boy waving tauntingly at her; Zoro wished he could whack that smug grin off his insufferable face, but him getting detention wouldn't help her. When his turn was up, he looked over the pre-watered Nissin Cup Noodles available, while grabbing a Smokey & Spicy Sio for himself. "Looks like there's no chicken ones here, V."
"Yeah, sorry hon," Carmen, the flamboyant cafeteria lady, frowned apologetically. She was also the school's dance instructor, and had some boys, and girls, drooling with her fiery reddish-pink hair, purple eyes, and overall gorgeous looks.
"It's okay," Venus assured, and looked over the selections, "Hmm... I'll try this one. Thanks." She grabbed one of the mild curry cups, along with a pair of chopsticks, before paying for her meal, and following Zoro to the tables.
"There they are," He gestured to a particular one occupied by a certain group, and she looked nervous again, "They'll like you." Keeping an arm around her shoulders, he led her around the other tables, saving her from being tripped when passing one of the bullies. He also saved her noodles from being spilled, and her chopsticks from being dropped. "Damn bastard," He grumbled in irritation, before approaching, and turning to the group he sought out. "Guys, this is my twin sister I told you about, Venus."
"H-hi," She stammered, mentally observing them all, as Zoro introduced them. They all had cup noodles like them, but for the most part, different flavors each. One of the girls, aptly named Robin, had black, shoulder-length hair with even bangs, and an olive skin tone, while the other, paler Nami, had an orange bob, and a pink sweater vest. Luffy had shaggy black hair, and along with his school uniform, wore a straw hat with a red band on his head, while Franky, who looked pretty buff, had light blue hair in a cowlick almost like Ace Ventura, a red Hawaiian shirt with green palm trees under his blazer, and a bandage across the bridge of his nose. Tall Brook had a puffy, black afro, round black shades, and seemed to be merely skin and bones. He seemed to be holding a violin case in his lap.
Sanji was... reaching towards her? "Well hello there, Venus." He took her free hand with a chivalrous look on his face, as she looked on awkwardly. "Who would've thought a twin of Marimo would be so lovely?"
"Uh-" She was about to respond, but Zoro pulled her hand back for her, before the blond could kiss it.
"Back off, curlybrow."
Sanji sneered at him, missing her smirk of awkward gratitude towards her brother. "We were having a moment there, kendo brain."
"Will you two stop already?" Nami scolded, before turning to Venus with a smile. "It's nice to finally meet you."
"Y-you guys too," She responded timidly.
"Anyway," Zoro gave Sanji one last sneer, before returning to the original topic for the final introduction, "And this here is Usopp."
"Hi, I-" Venus turned to him, just as he looked up to her from the table, and they made eye contact... and she couldn't turn away. "I, uh..." His mop of wavy, black curls; his tan complexion; his dark grey eyes; his cute, long nose. Blood rushed to her ivory cheeks, turning them pink; he was so handsome. Wait, what? "Um, I-I'm Venus. R-Roronoa Venus."
Usopp in turn, felt like he was looking at an angel, as he lowered his orange headphones to around his neck in a daze. What with her flowing, yet messy green hair, her ivory skin, and her dark green eye; she was beautiful. Her uniform stood out with her white shirt having a black bat collar, and her sweater vest being black with a small, white moon at the neckline. "N-nice to meet you. Um, please sit," He stammered, "Room for one more."
"Thanks." She sat down on the bench, directly across from him, with her brother next to her. She noticed his noodles cup, and giggled at its familiarity. "You got the curry too?"
"Oh yeah, it's my favorite. Yours?"
"Well um, I love the tasty chicken best, but they're out of it right now, so uh, I decided to try this one today." Through her reply, she stuck her chopsticks in, and began twirling some noodles.
"Well, you're going to love it."
Zoro glanced back and forth, as his sister exchanged smiles with one of his friends. What was going on here? Were they... in love with each other? That quickly? From what he remembered, last year, Venus vowed to never date again after a... humiliating incident. But it seemed she was now retracting that statement. "Mm!" Venus' hum of delight snapped him out of his thoughts. "It's great! I do love it!"
"It is, isn't it?" Usopp agreed. "The little kick really adds to it."
"Little kick?" She blinked in genuine confusion, surprising him.
He was also flustered on how her long lashes fluttered from the movements. "Y-yeah, there's a-"
"She has a high tolerance for spicy foods," Zoro explained after a bite of his lunch, "Sour foods too. If her meal came with a lemon slice, like to squeeze the juice out, after getting some on her fish or whatever, she'd eat it like it was an orange."
Nami couldn't help but stifle a laugh. She could imagine the shocked expressions from any witnesses around them during such a thing. Not to mention any waiters realizing the wedge was completely missing from their platter when cleaning up. "Really?"
"Y-yeah," Venus nodded after swallowing some noodles, " I've been able to for as long as I can remember."
"That's pretty impressive," Usopp complimented, "You do take the seeds out first, right?"
"Thanks," She smiled shyly, before hiding it with gulping from her soda bottle. "Oh yeah, I do. Y-you should've seen our parents' faces the first time," She snickered, and they all laughed after she demonstrated.
The rest of the period went smoothly; Venus fit in very well with Zoro's peer group, as she felt less and less nervous by the minute. Needless to say, she was definitely going out with them after school. And she couldn't wait! Once they were seated on the bus later, Venus started on her homework, with Zoro staying alert next to her. He helped her on occasion, and she was done just as their home was approaching.
"See you guys later!" Luffy waved, as the bus stopped at the Roronoa household first.
"See ya!" Venus waved back, blushing again when Usopp shot a smile at her. After smiling back, she went to follow Zoro out, only for another attempted tripping to be successful. She toppled face-down to the floor, with her violin case thumping on her back. "Oww!" Obnoxious rich brat Charlos laughed mockingly, bringing his leg back in front of his seat, as her knee lightly throbbed in pain.
"Hey, you bastard!" Usopp glared, as Zoro helped his sister to her feet. "You can't do that to her!"
"What'cha gonna do about it, Pinocchio?" Charlos taunted him in retortion without looking back, as his sister Shalria, equally horrible, laughed next to him.
"If I had a nickel every time I heard that one," An unfazed Usopp rolled his eyes, "I'd retire at 18. Now leave her alone!" He recoiled nervously with a squeak when the porky bully turned to him with an intimidating, challenging look, but kept his defiant glare, before relaxing when he looked ahead again.
Venus smiled at him again in silent gratitude, with him returning it, as she and Zoro exited the bus. Tera, the twins' mother, turned to them as they entered the house. "Hey, how was school?" She gasped lightly in concern, and rushed to her daughter, as they stepped out of their shoes. She had a scrape on her right knee above her black uniform sock, that was an angry red, and starting to bleed a little. "Oh, Venus. Shalria tripped you again?"
She shook her head. "Charlos, on the bus."
Tera sighed deeply. "When will the principal ever do anything? You better patch that up, dear, before you bleed out."
"I will," Venus nodded, "I'll do that right now. M-my homework's already done." She rushed to the upstairs bathroom.
Zoro watched her go, before huffing in exasperation, running his hand on his short, green hair. "That damn Rosward won't keep them in line, no matter how many complaints I send his way. They get no more than a slap on the wrist; not even detention."
"Unbelievable," Tera frowned, "Something needs to be done."
"Agreed." He glanced up at the stairwell, as he heard Venus go into her room, gingerly closing the door. It was soon followed by her violin music. "So, after homework, my friends and I are going to the mall. Venus hit it off with them at lunch, so she's coming with us."
"That's wonderful!" She smiled joyfully. "I bet you'll have a great time."
"Yeah, and uh, lunch went pretty... interestingly."
"What do you mean?"
"You remember Usopp? Long nose, black curls?"
"Yeah, I remember him. He's a nice boy; what about him?"
"Well... it seems like Venus now has a crush on him." Tera's eyebrows raised in surprise. "And he her; like, when they were first introduced."
"Really? Aww, love at first sight!" She gushed. "Is she going to date him?"
"It's hard to say. I mean last year, she said she'd never date again, but I guess we'll see how today goes. I trust Usopp with her; I just dread something happening, that breaks her heart."
"That's understandable, honey. You're a good brother, looking out for her."
"Thanks, Mom. I do my best." Zoro glanced at the stairwell again. "I'd better get my homework done, and some kendo practice in before we go."
"Alright. But don't push yourself too hard in kendo; just because you can't defeat that Mihawk fellow, doesn't mean you're not amazing at it."
"Thanks, will do." He walked upstairs without another word.
Tera sighed to herself, as she watched him go. She wished he wouldn't push himself so hard; he was hospitalized for exhaustion recently, and had to have his shinai hidden, in order to make him take it easy. Venus was frantic, even having the idea of hiding it, and did everything she could to help.
She didn't want anything like that happening again.
-
After some practicing, she set her violin down in its coffin-shaped case, and began searching through her vast amount of clothes for something to wear later. This was the first time in years, if not ever, that she had friends to hang out with; she wanted to make a good impression. Especially on... Usopp? Yeah, that was it. She smiled, as her mind wandered; through the short time she'd known him so far, he was so sweet. Not to mention fun to talk with.
After snapping out of it, she stripped out of her school uniform, and for a start, pulled on her black fishnet tights with moons and stars accented all over. She scoured through her dominantly dark-colored wardrobe, before deciding on a black sleeveless dress with a pleather batwing collar, ditching the plain black belt in favor of one with a silver dual-rose buckle. In her hair, she shifted a black thin headband lined with five bows, before adding in ghost flower earrings that dangled with a light, delightful clinking. Noticing the oncoming, beautiful gloominess outside, she grabbed, and pulled on a black hoodie printed with clouds, some having fangs and lightning bolts. Under her tights was a bandage shaped like a Goth Milk carton to cover her small wound.
"Oi, Venus! Are you ready yet?! It's been almost 10 minutes!"
"Yeah, I'm coming!" She grabbed her spiderweb heart purse, lavender shopper tote, and black and purple batwing umbrella, threw her door open, and ran downstairs, oblivious to him tensing up at the latter. "I'm ready!" Zoro waited by the door, as she slipped her feet in a pair of black flats with shiny leather pumpkin faces in a darker black. He himself was in his usual black pants and shoes, with a yellow zip-up t-shirt.
"Mom, we're leaving!" He called out.
"Okay! Have fun, you two! Text me when you're getting home, so I can start on dinner!"
"We will!" Venus promised, before following him out to the public bus. "I'm excited."
"That's good. I told you they would like you."
"Yeah," She snickered, "You did. They're all really nice; though Sanji's kinda strange."
Zoro snorted with an eyeroll. "Do not look behind that curtain, I'm warning you. I'm just glad you like Usopp instead of that dumbass."
"Huh? W-what're you-"
"Venus, we're siblings." He cut her off, not buying her oblivious façade. "Twins at that; I can practically read your mind. And I saw it in your face."
She giggled, and pushed his hand away when he prodded at the side of her head. "Yeah, but... yeah," She caved, and shyly fiddled with one of her earrings, "He's just so sweet, and handsome."
"Well, I trust him, but I'm saying this because you're my sister... just be careful. Remember what happened last year; I don't want you going through that again."
"I know," She nodded, "But I have a good feeling."
Before he could respond, the bus stopped outside the mall, prompting them to disembark. Zoro held his much-shorter-than-him twin's hand to help her off the step without falling on her face, before checking the most recent text from the group leader. "Luffy said they'll be just inside this entrance."
"'Kay." With that, they began walking. In her peripherals, she caught him mindlessly wandering away, and yanked him back on the right path with a stifled snicker. "Going somewhere?"
"Shut up."
She giggled, as they walked through the automatic doors. She may have less emotional maturity between the two of them, but she had always been better with directions.
Less than a minute after entering, they found the familiar group standing close by, waiting on them by a large, digital directory. "Hey, guys!" Luffy called out with an enthusiastic wave of his hand. "Over here!" Venus brightened up upon noticing them, and made a beeline.
Now that they were out of their school uniforms, their real styles showed, and they their personalities quite nicely. Luffy was in blue denim Bermuda shorts, a red tank top, and a pair of brown flip-flops, along with what seemed to be his signature hat. Sanji was in a dark blue t-shirt with the word "Gentlecook" in lighter blue font, black jeans, and black Vans shoes. Franky was in his red Hawaiian shirt from school, dark blue knee-length shorts, and grey sandals. Brook stood out in particular, with his light pink skinny jeans with studs along the front pockets, brown loafers, blue and white striped t-shirt with "Summer Body" along the front in darker blue, and a large, cotton candy tie dye sunhat over his afro.
Robin was in a white button-up shirt-dress accented with purple specks, black shiny knee-high boots, and a black pleather jacket. Nami wore dark blue Bermuda shorts, brown strappy sandals, and a green tank top with darker green flower silhouettes.
She blushed at Usopp, specifically; he was in a white t-shirt, blue jeans with a lighter-hued belt, and patches on the knees, brown combat boots, and a thin, light purple button-up over it all, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. "H-hi, Usopp," She stammered after walking up to him, avoiding eye contact. Crap, she was nervous again. Why did he have to be so cute?
"Hey, Venus," He greeted her in return, struggling to keep his composure himself, "Y-you look great." More than great; she looked adorable. But he was scared of being too straightforward, remembering how Zoro told all of them about her shyness.
"Thanks," Her cheeks flushed even deeper, "So do you."
Nami smiled widely to herself while watching them; something was definitely happening. "Okay, so where to first?" Robin asked around.
As they wandered, and shopped, Venus bonded even more with the group. At certain places, she stuck by Nami and Robin, while the boys did their own thing across from the shop. "So, Venus," Nami turned to the shorter girl, prompting her to look down at her hands browsing necklaces, "You and Usopp are getting pret-ty cozy there."
"W-what?"
"You have a crush on Usopp."
"N-no," She fibbed.
Nami tilted her head with a look of skepticism. "Venus, I may have only met you today, but I can already tell; you're a terrible liar."
Venus was silent, as she moved on to hair accessories. "It's nothing to be embarrassed about," Robin assured, "You've had crushes before, right?"
She was briefly hesitant, thinking about the previous year. "Yeah, but this time feels... different. Although..." She trailed off.
"Although?" Robin repeated with motherly patience.
"I'm... scared to date again. Since last year; I don't want to talk about it."
"And you don't have to," The raven-haired girl said, "But Usopp is very sweet. He would never hurt anyone. And besides... he seems to be quite fond of you."
Venus looked up at her with surprise, though her gaze stayed downward after a split second of eye contact. "Really?"
-
"So, Usopp," Zoro approached his long-nosed friend, who was trying to pick out a game to try out next, "You seem to be getting quite close with Venus, huh?"
He was startled out of his internal debate by the sudden query. "Oh, uh... y-yeah?"
Zoro snorted at his wariness. "Chill out, I'm not gonna kill you."
"Oh good," He chuckled nervously, "Sorry, Zoro. It's just when I first saw her, standing in front of me... I couldn't look away." He sighed with a headshake. "She's so cute, and pretty. And very sweet."
"I'm glad you think so."
"Has she dated before?"
Zoro sighed in hesitation. "She has, and I won't go into details for her sake, but they were... never good."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," Usopp's heart swelled with sympathy. Who would have the nerve to hurt someone as kind and meek as Venus? She seemed like she wouldn't hurt a fly. "I won't pry, but she doesn't deserve that treatment. And I promise I would never do that to her. I'd treat her the way she deserves; like a princess."
Zoro smiled just a little. "Thanks, man. I trust you."
"No prob," Usopp nodded with a returning smile, before turning back to the two games in his hands, and holding them up for him to see the covers. "Which of these should I get?"
"Found it!" Chopper cheered, holding up the newest Super Mario game in victory.
-
A few minutes later, the teens regrouped after finishing up. Venus walked straight to Usopp, while he also did for her; it didn't go unnoticed by the others, as they smiled to themselves, and each other. "Can we go down that way?" She pointed to the left-side walkway.
"Sure," Nami agreed, and they headed in said direction. Zoro smirked to himself; he knew the reason behind her request, but kept quiet, so she could explain it herself. "What's down here?"
Venus pointed to a sign straight ahead. It featured the shop's name in a stylized font in black, with a dark blue witch hat bearing constellations on the first M, while the last O was a crescent moon. "You uh, you guys see that shop there, Modern Majo?"
"Yeah," Robin nodded.
"That's where I work."
Nami's eyebrows raised in surprise. "Really?"
"Yep, part-time at least. It's independently owned too. At times, there's um, some rude people coming in like you'd expect, but my boss is amazing, as is the shop itself. Can we, uh-"
"Yeah, we can go in," Franky replied, "Seems like a bit of Robin's speed."
-
The shop was... quite interesting. Not only did it have apparel, jewelry (those for body piercings included), hair accessories, and home trinkets, all in a Gothic style, it also had items commonly associated with witchcraft. The table near the entrance had crystals, tarot cards, and cauldrons. Her boss, Toribia Hekate, was delighted that her kind-hearted, yet lonely and introverted worker had friends; and like them, saw how Usopp looked at the girl.
They witnessed her barking at a particularly ill-mannered customer, effectively scaring him off, and heard sad stories from both her and Venus, about the latter receiving verbal abuse. More often than not, they had happy endings, but their hearts ached for her; especially Usopp's, and Zoro's, although the latter had already heard them all.
They soon left with Robin carrying a small bag, while Venus had one much bigger. Not only was she a hard-working employee there, she may be its best customer as well. "So um, what'd you guys think?"
"Cool place," Robin replied with a smile.
"Yeah, it is," Nami agreed, "I mean, it's not my style, but it's definitely yours; and it's great that you work at a place you love like that."
"Thanks."
Usopp was blushing, as he glanced around mindlessly; before they left, Hekate had pulled him aside by the fitting room, which had a huge, heavy curtain in place of two walls around two large mirrors, for a little, private chat. The short, yet intimidating old woman extracted a promise from him to be good to Venus, which he vowed to inact one day. She deserved all the love; and he wanted to give it to her.
When they passed by a quaint little bakery selling an extensive array of small desserts, he had an idea; he turned to Venus, hoping he won't make her nervous with his offer. "Um, can I buy you a little treat?"
She glanced over behind him, and nodded with a smile. "Sure, thanks!"
"Since you're buying-"
"No," Usopp cut Luffy off, "I only have enough for Venus, and me." With that little fib, he escorted her inside to the back of the short line. While it was just two of them, he couldn't help but notice; she was short. The top of her head had just barely touched the bottom of his chin. That just made her all the more adorable to him.
As a disappointed Luffy pouted, Zoro looked on in bafflement. "What's happening?"
"Oh, I'll tell you what's happening," Nami grinned widely, "They like each other!" She almost squealed.
"Like each other how?" Chopper asked innocently.
Robin patted his shoulder with a motherly smile. "You'll understand when you're older."
"Well yeah, but... th-that fast?" He stammered. "They only met just today."
"Dude, he's smoother with her than Sanji is with every girl in school," Franky laughed.
"Shut up!"
Zoro couldn't help but snicker at the embarrassed blond's expense. "Ah, keep sucking your candy." He turned his attention back to the others. "I don't know, I do trust him; I just don't want her to get hurt... again."
Robin frowned with sympathy. "We get it. You want to protect her; you're a good brother for that."
He smiled a little, as he remembered his mother telling him that same thing earlier that day. "Thanks. She hasn't had any good dating experience, so I worry every time." He didn't want to bring up the particular incident from last year; she could tell them when she was ready.
In the bakery, Usopp and Venus' turn in line came up. "What can I get you, young man?" The guy greeted.
"Hmm..." He looked over the individual cake slices, that almost made him drool, "I'll have the cookie dough kind."
"Mm." He smiled at Venus' hum of delight.
"And for the lady?"
"Um," She followed his lead, before perking up at spotting one of her favorite kinds. One she and Zoro commonly chose together. "T-the Oreo one, please."
"Coming right up." Venus licked her lips, as he promptly paid. "Name?"
"Usopp."
"Alright, once they're ready, I'll call you lovebirds over."
They both blushed deeply at that, before they nodded. "We-we're uh, just friends," Usopp reluctantly stammered, and she nodded with a sheepish grin, "Thanks." After each grabbing a spoon, they had a seat at a vacant table to wait. 'I wish we were more, though,' He thought to himself. Little did he know, she was thinking the same, almost word by word.
"Um," He turned to Venus when she spoke up, "Zoro and I would come here with our parents whenever we had an accomplishment of some kind."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yep. Like if we aced a test, Zoro won a kendo tournament, or whatever. I've won a talent show or two, which also brings us here."
"Ah." He had actually never attended any of the shows himself. None of the group did; except Zoro, that is. "What's your talent?"
"I play an electric violin."
"Oh yeah, Zoro brought that up once or twice," He recalled, "That's really cool."
"Thanks."
"Maybe someday, I can come over, and you can practice for me."
She smiled at the idea; that sounded great to her. "I'd like that." She hoped he wouldn't be put off by how her bedroom was decorated, and/or think of her as a weirdo.
He noticed her change of face, and frowned with concern. "You sure?" He must've been too forward there.
"Oh yeah, I'm sure," She replied, "I'm just worried you'll, um..." He waited patiently for her to find the proper wording. "You'll think I'm weird. 'Cause I'm a..."
"Goth?" He smiled warmly, making her blush deeper. "Yeah, Zoro mentioned that too. Plus I saw it in how you dress." His heart fluttered at her looking down at the table, fiddling with her hoodie drawstring. She was so cute; he wanted to hug her, but that would definitely be going too fast at the moment. "It's okay; I really like it on you."
"Oh, t-thanks." She gave a cheerful, teeth-baring grin. "You'll love my room, then," She giggled, and laughed with him.
"I bet I will."
"Usopp?"
"That's us." He stood back up, and as she followed his lead, he took her hand without thinking. She noticed just after she was on her feet; they blushed red, before they both drew back slowly with awkward grins. Little too soon. After getting their respective slices, they left the shop, and rejoined their friends. "We're back."
"We see that," Brook teased, "You treating your new girlfriend?" He laughed with a kind that sounded like a classic pirate, only more joyful.
Usopp rolled his eyes, as Venus giggled awkwardly, taking the clear top off her plastic platter. "I just met her earlier today, y'know. We all did, except Zoro."
Zoro looked over, and stifled a grin at Sanji's dark scowl. "Envy's not a good look on you."
"Shut up, Marimo."
"Mmm, so good!" Venus beamed, interrupting the tense moment. "Like always." She smiled up at Usopp, who began eating his own. "Um, thanks for buying."
"You're welcome."
Nami smirked at them, as they enjoyed their slices. "Trying to mock us there, huh?" She joked. "Treating her, and not the rest of us, Mr. Favorites-Player."
Usopp snickered. "Well forgive me for wanting to do something nice for a special girl," He retorted with a smirk.
Special girl? Venus felt like her cheeks were on fire, as she kept her gaze on her platter. He was so sweet; she wanted to tackle him in a big hug, but was much too timid for such a bold move. Not to mention his cake would wind up on the floor, and she certainly didn't want that.
Zoro raised a brow in her direction, before smirking at her flustered state. She's got it bad for his friend; wait until their parents hear about this.
Before long, the great day came to an inevitable end. "Um, t-thanks for letting me join you guys," Venus stammered, "This was really fun."
"You're welcome!" Luffy beamed. "You can hang out with us all the time! I like you!"
She giggled, as everyone agreed. "Thanks. I'd love that."
"Want me to drive you guys home?" Franky offered.
"You sure I'll fit?" Venus asked nervously.
"Oh yeah," He assured, "Room for one more, half-pint."
"Franky drives a vintage VW bus," Robin explained, "He fixed it up himself."
"Ah, cool!" Venus grinned. "Thanks, that sounds great!" She stepped inside to the back seats with Zoro, and admired the interior, as he shot a text to Tera. When Robin said Franky fixed it up, she wasn't kidding around; the seat was so comfortable, and it had the features of a modern vehicle, while appearing vintage on the outside. It was amazing.
"Go on, Usopp," Nami teased when he hesitated to follow his new crush's lead.
"Yeah, yeah," He snickered, "Don't nag me." After his jest, he climbed inside, and sat next to Venus, before he had to squeeze into her, so Chopper could fit by the window. She smiled up at him, as she held her shopping bags just above her feet.
Once everyone was inside, Franky started driving around the town, to drop them off at their respective homes. Nami was first; outside of her house was a tan-skinned young woman with short, light blue hair, standing by the front door to greet her. Chopper was next, with his adoptive mother, school nurse Kureha, waiting on him. When Sanji was about to leave, his attempt at a chivalrous farewell to Venus was interrupted by Zoro and Usopp, to her relief. "Thanks guys," She giggled.
Her heart sunk a little when Usopp unbuckled himself; she wasn't quite ready to depart just yet. "I-I'll see you in school," She stammered, so he stopped outside the bus.
"And I'll see you," He gave her a kind smile, before walking to his house, and entering.
Venus smiled dreamily, as she watched him leave. "Alright twins, should be you next," Franky announced, after he started driving again.
"'Kay," She nodded.
"You have fun today, kid?" He asked her.
"Absolutely," She replied, "I can't wait to hang out with you guys again. I like you all."
"Especially Usopp, right?"
She rolled her eyes with a smirk through his chuckles. "Yeah, I walked into that one." Before long, Franky stopped outside the familiar house. "Thanks for driving us," She almost stumbled out on the sidewalk, though stayed on her feet, with Zoro following more smoothly.
"No prob! See you guys tomorrow!"
"You too, Frank," Zoro called out, before heading to the door with her up ahead.
-
Later that evening, the day's events were brought up over an onigiri dinner. "Venus, did you have fun with Zoro's friends today?" Tera asked.
"I definitely did," She nodded after a bite, "They want me to hang out with them again."
"She fit right in," Zoro added.
"I'm glad to hear that," Arashi remarked.
"And Venus has more than a little crush now, on one of them," Zoro smirked, snickering at her blushing cheeks.
"Oh really?" Arashi said in surprise. "Which one?"
"U-Usopp," She shyly mumbled behind her water glass, before shaking it off, "And I heard that he likes me back. Or he could."
"That's great, dear, but please be careful," Tera gently warned, "We don't want you getting hurt again."
"I understand," Venus nodded, before sighing sadly, "I don't want to go through that again."
~
-Last Year-
"I got asked to the prom!" Venus announced the second she entered the house after school.
Zoro lowered his shintai, and exited his room in curiosity. "By who?"
"His name's Spandam! He said that he likes me, and wants to be my prom date! Of course, I said yes!"
"That's great, honey!" Tera beamed. "I'm sure you'll have a great time!"
Zoro squinted his eyes over the excitement, staying quiet. He couldn't help but feel suspicious; Spandam didn't exactly have the best reputation in the school. He decided to keep it to himself, in fear of ruining his sister's joy. Maybe it could work out...
If only he knew how wrong that preposition was.
After changing to look their best, the two headed for the school, with their parents driving. "Have fun, you two!" Tera called out when they exited the car.
"We will," Zoro called back, and they entered the building. He followed Venus along the decorated halls, until they reached the gymnasium, where the event was currently kicking off. "Want to wait for him here?"
"Yeah," She nodded, "I'll be alright on my own."
That didn't help his suspicions at all. "If you say so. I'll be with my friends."
"'Kay, have fun."
"You too." With that, he wandered off, and miraculously located his newfound friends by the punch bowl, where she happened to be out of their sights.
"Surprised you found us that fast, Moss-head," Sanji smirked.
"Shut up, moron," Zoro dismissed the annoying blond; he was more focused on keeping his ears open, for any sounds of distress from Venus.
Meanwhile, she lingered at the entrance, blissfully unaware of the devious plot she would soon be apart of, front and center. Behind her back hid her so-called "date", looking down at her with evil intentions, while gripping a large pot. Time to put the plan into action...
Venus stood with a small smile, looking for a familiar head of lavender hair, when... it happened. She gasped sharply with a shriek at a disgusting-smelling, off-white, curdled substance raining down on her from the ceiling, leaving her drenched. She panted heavily, tears welling up, and not just from the odor, as certain students broke out into laughter. The substance slid down her hair, arms, and legs, and stained her black dress nearly beyond recognition.
Zoro turned sharply at the commotion. "What happened?" Usopp went to look, but his vision was blocked by some large athletes around all of them. Even Brook and Franky couldn't see.
"I don't know," Zoro sneered behind his back. Though he had a feeling that he did know.
Spandam leaped over in front of her with great clumsiness, but quickly regained his composure, towering over her, as he laughed mockingly. "This is what you get, little freak! You really thought anyone would want to be your date anywhere, much less the prom?! Ha! Have fun stinking up the place!" With that, he joined the other bullies in enjoying her misery.
"That's an improvement!" A portly boy named Hordy Jones guffawed.
Zoro pushed past the burly athletes, and just barely saw Venus running out of the room with her face hidden by her hands. "Guys, I gotta go, now."
"But you just got here-"
"I gotta go!" He snapped, interrupting Luffy, before making a mad dash after her. "Venus!" 'What did that bastard do to her?!' He thought furiously. 'I'll kill him!' He saw her disappear into the girls' room, and quickly followed. "Venus?" He held his nose at the terrible smell, as she hid in the handicap stall, leaving it unlocked. The hell was that? She never had it before; unless... Spandam. "V?" He peeked in, and she was sitting on the toilet, sobbing into her hands. "You okay?" He knew it was a stupid question, but he didn't know what else to say. Her only response was a head shake, which sent some gross lumps sliding from her hair, and splattering on the floor. "What did that bastard do?"
He waited patiently for her to calm herself enough to answer. "He... d-dumped some... sour milk on me."
That certainly explained the smell. Her fancy dress had to have been permanently ruined; nothing would get the stains, or odor out of it. "Go rinse yourself off in the girls' locker room. And throw out your dress; here's my jacket." He stripped it off, so he was in his matching black pants, and navy blue button-up printed with whirlpools.
"O-okay, thanks." She took it when he handed it over, and ran off.
In the boys' locker room, Zoro scrubbed off his sister's heeled shoes for her, boiling with rage. Rosward was going to hear from him; Spandam wasn't his offspring, so he would hopefully be punished for this. While cleaning, he called Arashi; he and Tera had to have been home by now, but they needed to come back. No way were they staying at the prom; not after what had just happened. "Dad, you and Mom need to get back here, now."
"Why, what happened?" Arashi sounded worried.
"I'll explain later. Just get here as soon as you can; we're not staying."
"Okay son, we're on our way." With that, he hung up.
In the girls' shower, tears fell down Venus' face. She should've known it was a set-up; who would want to associate with her? No one, that's who. She was just going to die alone. After finishing up, and putting on her undergarments, she pulled on, and buttoned up her brother's jacket, which almost reached her knees, and shoved her pungent dress in the garbage bin. She never wanted to see it again.
Zoro came back less than a minute later, with her now clean shoes on hand. "You better now?"
"I guess," She almost whispered, "T-thanks."
"I called Dad. He and Mom are on our way here." He set her blocky kitten heels on the floor.
"'Kay, good. I just want to go home." After stepping into her shoes, she took his hand, and walked the halls with him. His heart broke at her sniffles, and shuddering breath; she didn't want to cry at risk of other students hearing, and making her feel worse.
After a minute of waiting outside, a familiar car pulled up, and parked close by. Arashi and Tera jumped out immediately, concerned at their daughter wearing their son's jacket instead of her dress, with her hair out of its former braid crown. "Venus?" The second Arashi knelt in front of her, she collapsed into him, and sobbed in his shoulder. "Oh, baby." He held her close, and stroked her damp hair, as Tera rubbed her back. "What's that smell?"
"Sour milk," Zoro replied, his hands clenched his fists, "That bastard dumped it on her."
Tera gasped in shock. "He what?!"
"She had to rinse off in the locker room, and throw her dress away."
"Come on, let's go home, so you can have a proper shower." After Arashi kissed Venus' forehead, they all piled into the car, and took off. Venus sobbed in Zoro's neck and shoulder during the whole drive.
Once they were inside the house, she made a beeline for the bathroom. "I'm never dating anyone again!" She cried while running up the stairs, and grabbing her bat-print bathrobe.
The moment she disappeared into the bathroom, and the shower turned on, Zoro let his rage out. "I knew it, I freakin' knew it!" He dropped to his knees, and his fists pounded the coffee table. "I knew Spandam was bad news! I didn't want to say anything, because she was so excited, but now I know I should have!" His forehead dropped down between his hands. "Now she's humiliated, all because I-!"
"Zoro, it wasn't your fault!" Arashi cut him off. "It was that brat who caused this, not you."
"Yeah, please don't blame yourself, honey," Tera added, "Venus doesn't, I know it."
"Tell Rosward on Monday," Arashi suggested, "Something has to be done about this."
"Gladly." After several minutes, Venus emerged from the bathroom, now smelling like her lemon shampoo/conditioner; she went straight to her room, and shut the door without a word. "I'm gonna-"
"I think she should be alone for a while," Tera stopped him.
"Okay," He nodded after some hesitation, and walked into his own room. He shut the door, grabbed his shintai, and turned to the dummy he always practiced on. Out of nowhere, he imagined Spandam's smug face on the head, laughing tauntingly; seething with rage, he tore into the dummy with loud grunts and shouting battle cries, almost totaling it in seconds. How could he just humiliate his sister?! And with no shame?! She never did anything to deserve it! She was one of the sweetest, most harmless girls in the whole school! "YOU FILTHY BASTARD!" He screamed with fury over her sobs close by. Along with sword slashes, punches and kicks were added in. "HOW DARE YOU HURT MY SISTER!" Venus sat curled up in the small tent, her face buried in her knees, as her shoulders shook.
Minutes later, the dummy was destroyed, now in shambles scattered about. Zoro panted heavily, tears streaming down his cheeks; he put his shintai away before any other damage was done, and sat on his bed to calm down, with his head in his hands. He wanted to check on her, but he couldn't if he was shaking like this.
Once he was chilled out enough, he walked to her room, surprised to notice the door slightly open, and peeked inside. Venus was still sitting in the tent, but was now silent. "Sis?" He cautiously entered the room, and knelt in front of her. "You doing okay?"
She sniffled, and raised her head up. Her cheeks were blotchy, and stained from the tears, and her eye was red. "I guess."
He pulled her into a hug, which she accepted immediately, her head resting on his chest. "I had a feeling there was something... not right regarding Spandam." He sighed deeply. "I didn't say anything, because you were so excited about having a prom date."
"It's not your fault."
"I know, but I still-"
"You couldn't have seen it coming," She raised her head to look at him, "Neither of us did. It's all on him, not you."
Zoro didn't know how to respond, as he simply kept her close. He felt responsible, no matter what, although it couldn't be fixed. It happened, and it was over. But Spandam was going down for this; he would make sure of it.
After a few minutes, she had fallen asleep from emotional exhaustion, still clutching his shirt. He picked her up from the floor, and laid her down in her bed with one of her many blankets; after loosening her grip, and adding a stuffie under her one arm draped over her chest, he left her be.
~
Venus sighed heavily at the memories, before shaking it off. "I'll be careful, I promise."
"Good," Tera nodded.
Later that night, now in her pajamas, Venus laid on her bed, lost in her thoughts. She surely didn't want a repeat of last year, but... Usopp was so different from Spandam. He was nothing like that jerk; he was so sweet, and a lot of fun to be around. Heck, he treated her to a slice of cake after they knew each other for only a few hours! And he was a lot cuter too. No way would he ever mistreat her... right?
No, right. He wouldn't. He'd never.
She soon drifted off to sleep, with her new crush on her mind.
-
Elsewhere, while laying in his own bed, Usopp was thinking hard as well. About Venus, in particular; she was the sweetest, cutest, and most lovely girl he had ever known.
Over dinner, he recalled the day's events to his mother, Banchina, while swooning over the short Goth. She was over the moon at her son having such strong feelings for someone, and her heart broke at hearing how she was bullied in school.
He smiled, as he recollected the day's events; he knew buying Venus a little treat was a good idea. She was so happy, and seemed to enjoy it. He wanted to give her heart a break; show her she deserved all the love in the world, by giving it to her.
He remembered their private chat in the bakery; he really wanted to hear her practice her violin for him one day, hanging out one-on-one. He was eager to learn more about her. And meanwhile, she felt the same about him.
Neither could wait to see each other again at school tomorrow.

Rugby Wall Decals
The Rugby World Cup starts in France in 2 days, 20 hours, and 36 minutes. The New Zealand All Blacks will play against the French Les Bleus in the opener and I am super excited, in case you could not tell. :)
One of the things I miss most from Sims 3 is the ability for sims to play rugby while at university. I am attempting to fill that void in Sims 4 by making a Rabbithole Professional Rugby Career Mod. This is taking time, but as the World Cup begins, I thought I would release some of the rugby-themed cc that I have been working on.
There are 2 files of decals. One includes a smaller size for the decals and the other includes a larger or tall decal option (see captions for which decals go with each file.

Splendid Wall Stickers for Living Room, Bedroom & Office Decor
Wall stickers, also known as wall decals, have become a popular trend in interior design, and Australia is no exception to this creative and versatile decor choice. These adhesive artworks offer a convenient and affordable way to transform any room, bringing personality and style to your living spaces.
Whether you're looking to add a touch of whimsy to a child's bedroom or revamp your living room with a fresh look, wall stickers Australia have you covered.
Endless Variety:
One of the biggest advantages of wall stickers is the vast array of designs available in the Australian market. From geometric patterns and motivational quotes to scenic landscapes and abstract art, there's something to suit every taste. This diversity allows homeowners to express their individuality and creativity when decorating their homes.
Easy Application and Removal:
Wall stickers are incredibly user-friendly. They are easy to apply and remove, making them ideal for renters and homeowners alike. They leave no sticky residue or damage to the wall surface, which is a common concern with traditional wallpaper or paint. This feature ensures that you can change your decor as often as you'd like without worrying about any lasting consequences.
Affordability:
Wall stickers are a budget-friendly alternative to traditional decorating options. With prices ranging from a few dollars to slightly more for intricate and custom designs, they offer an affordable way to refresh your living space without breaking the bank. Moreover, you don't need to hire a professional decorator or spend hours on a DIY project – just peel and stick, and your room can instantly be transformed.
Personalized Touch:
Many Australian companies offer personalized wall stickers, allowing you to add a unique and meaningful touch to your decor. Personalized wall decals Australia can feature your favorite quotes, family names, or even custom designs, creating a space that truly reflects your personality and interests.
Environmental Friendliness:
For eco-conscious consumers, many wall stickers are made from eco-friendly materials, ensuring that your decorating choices are kind to the environment.

T.Kettle Part 5: Rebranding & The Lock
As time progressed and more and more people started to find our store, we got mixed reactions. Some customers were former Teavana fans who were still searching for Teavana replacement teas from years prior. I even remembered some of these customers and they remembered me which was pretty cool. The rest of the customers could be evenly split into two group.
Group one were customers who were big DavidsTea fans and were glad to see a new tea shop open up in their place. Many had heard about DavidsTea’s mass closures during the pandemic, and were searching for DavidsTea replacement teas. These clients were very easy going and we were able to help them bridge the gap between us and DavidsTea and set them up with familiar teas and products.
Group two was the worst. This group of customers were people who were convinced, beyond a doubt, that we were not a new tea shop, but instead we were DavidsTea rebranded. And no matter what I told these people, they would not believe otherwise. Some pointed out idiotic observations to prove their case. For example, DavidsTea had tea canisters behind the counter, and so do we, so we must be DavidsTea rebranded. My favourite was “well DavidsTea sold loose tea, just like you, so you must be DavidsTea.”
Really people? Every tea shop in existence has had tea canisters behind the counter. This is not an exclusive to DavidsTea idea. And on the subject of tea shops, DavidsTea was not the first to sell loose leaf teas. Teavana, Teaopia, Citizen Tea, all sold loose leaf teas, not to mentioned countless independent shops throughout the country. Some even tried to prove we were the same shop rebranded by using the article that had been published about T.Kettle.
They argued that the article said that T.Kettle would be opening up in former DavidsTea locations, but that DavidsTea had also left four locations open as flagship stores. “See it says right here! It’s just DavidsTea rebranded.”, they would argue.
I loved to point out the other parts of the article they missed while cherry picking their evidence. Like the article stating clearly that T.Kettle was owned by a totally different person, and this person had bought out the leases for closed DavidsTea locations. You think they would understand right? No. These customer still argued that that was just DavidsTea tea rebranding itself. And with these clients I had a simple policy of keep your ignorance to yourself and either buy or leave. While I never said to a client most did leave... and drive to DavidsTea!
Why on earth would you leave a drive to a DavidsTea while under the impression that the store your currently standing in is the same store, and same company with a different name???
Now on the other hand I can’t blame these customers too much, or at least not the ones who pointed out the most obvious similarities that could cause confusion. And believe me, all the T.Kettle managers reported these issues to the company as we were all facing this dilemma. You see besides T.Kettle switching the colour scheme from baby blue and white to navy blue and white, that is pretty much where they left any changes. The stores kept the same DavidsTea layout with the same counter tops, same display bays, same floor display stands, they even left the DavidsTea stickers of the hot water dispenser and told us to “scribble over the name with a sharpie”. They even took down the tea type decals above the tea wall, and replaced them with cheaper, but almost identical versions.
(A shot of a T.Kettle store. Notice how it looks almost exactly like a DavidsTea store, besides the name change and canister color change.)
On conference calls when almost every manager complained that these clear cut similarities were causing an issue, they company gave us a whole speech on how they understood and were working on it. While I’m sure to some extent they did understand, they were for sure not working on it, because to make changes would cost money and they whole reason no other changes were made to begin with was because that would cost money.
The one other change T.Kettle did make was the creation of their mascot “Teddy”.
We actually really loved Teddy. He appeared on many stickers and labels we used and was on our tote bags. And because he was only depicted from the waist up, we spent much time entertaining ourselves with what he wore underneath. It being Covid times and many people worked virtually on a webcam, it was a known fact that many people who appeared to be in work or business attire were in their pajamas or boxers from the waist down since the camera couldn’t see this. So we decided to debate on what we thought he was wearing from the waist down.
The popular opinion was that he was in silk, polka dot boxer shorts, with long twig like legs, covered with stubble, argyle socks running up his ankles, but still wore really expensive, long pointed toe dress shoes. I decided to that he was never without a tea cup in his hand and if you were to knock it out of his hand, another would instantly appear. We had a lot of fun talking about Teddy.
The other issue we spent the summer dealing with was that we had a staff of three people, and only one key for the gates. Remember I said at the end of orientation I was only given one key? This was because the others had gone missing. Why is this an issue you ask? Because unless the same person is opening every day, other staff members also needed a key to open the gate in the morning. I reported this issue to the company and it took two months for them to send a locksmith.
In the meantime I had to make sure every end of day shift was scheduled so that the person who was to open the next day would be in store so they could take the key with them for the next morning, or if possible one staff member would drive to the opener after their shift. This was a major pain in the ass to say the least. What if the opener called in sick and no one else had a key? We’d be screwed.
I called the lock company who installed the locks and I learned that DavidsTea had purchased the rights to this particular lock and key set and that normally they could give new keys, however DavidsTea had stopped paying their fee to the lock company and therefore they were not going to do anything for us. I reported this to the company as well thinking maybe it would give them a push to get someone to us sooner, but no.
Finally the day came when the locksmith did arrive. Two months of waiting for a job that took him 20 minutes. But we finally had one key for each staff member plus and extra key for new hired. Crisis averted. Now the next task was preparing for the first store visit from... HEAD OFFICE!
To be continued....

Smitten
Ohktai's favorite cafe was a bit unorthodox.
It was, as the "hip" kids would call, very kawaii. The decor was predominantly pink, decals on the wall boasting a wide variety of adorable mascot characters, and every item had a cutesy sweet name. It didn't matter to the half-orc; his priorities came with the quality of the product. Sure, on some level, he could appreciate the aesthetic. He liked cute things as much as the next guy actually secretly does. The secret, however, was that people who love things so cute and authentic tended to also make damn good drinks.
"Yeah, can I get the Labu Labu Latte," Ohktai scanned the menu, tall enough to nearly come eye-to-eye with the wall-mounted chalkboard. "But a little less sweet and less milk?"
"Of course," The cashier chirped happily. "And that's O-H-K-T-A-I, correct?"
"Got it."
"And did you want some food this time?"
Ohktai leaned down, crouching to assess the refrigerated display case. There were some really tasty looking options, namely the sandwiches and cake slices, but he really was just here to caffeinate.
"Nah, not this time, just the drink," Ohktai made sure to stuff a fat wad of bills into the tip jar. "And you guys don't gotta do the coffee art or whatever, it gets messed up in the to-go cup anyways."
"Okay," The cashier seemed to hold back a giggle. "We'll have your order at the counter momentarily. Thank you and have a Labu Labu day!"
"Yeah, you too."
Ohktai swaggered around the counter and stood in the corner. He still got side-eyed despite being a regular now but he couldn't really blame anyone. Your average orc was already a bit intimidating by default. His large stature and permanent scowl didn't help ease any tensions.
"Purple Princess Taro Tea for Myōga! I've got a Purple Princess Taro Tea for Myōga!"
The customer in question toddled up to the counter and Ohktai had to focus to keep his mouth from falling open. Holy shit, they were beautiful. Big blue eyes, cute squishy cheeks, satiny looking cat ears and a tail and a lovely figure; what a catch!
"Thanks!" Myōga squeaked. They popped off the lid of their drink and beamed at the art drawn into the foam. "Aww, what a cute lil' cat! See ya next time, Mimi!"
"You too, Myōga, take it easy!"
Their voice made it harder to decipher their gender. While they were wearing very cutesy effeminate clothing, something about their timbre made Ohktai think they weren't just a girl. Myōga snapped the lid back onto their drink and turned, catching Ohktai right in the middle of his slack-jawed staring.
There was a silent tenseness. Myōga didn't back down, their gaze unwavering, fearless. Ohktai's heart quivered.
"Sorry," He tried to keep the roughness out of his voice. "For staring. You're... The most gorgeous thing I've ever seen, I couldn't help myself."
Myōga's eyes went wide, eyebrows rising. After a beat of silence, they laughed brightly, stepping out of the way as a customer approached, stepping nearer to Ohktai.
"Thank you?" Myōga giggled. "I don't know if you're pulling my leg or not."
"Definitely not. You're beautiful."
"Wow," Their cheeks went pink and Ohktai swooned even harder. "No one's ever given me a compliment like that before."
"Blasphemy." The half-orc scoffed.
"You're pretty handsome yourself, big boy," Myōga grinned. "What's your name?"
"Ohktai Sato," He grinned, feeling more confident about admiring the little cat. "And you? You're so pretty, I can't tell if you're a boy or a girl, not that it matters to me."
"I'm a boy," Myōga's giggle tinkled like bells. "And my name's Myōga, Myōga Genmai. It's nice to meet you, Mr. Sato."
"Just Ohktai's fine. You come here often?"
Myōga peered back over his shoulder. At first, Ohktai thought he was looking for emotional support from the baristas until the catboy turned back around with an apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry, I'd love to chat but I gotta get back to work," He pulled out his wallet and passed over a little card. "Here. This the number to the store. If you can call me within, let's see, 30min, no earlier and not much later, maybe I'll give you my personal cell in exchange."
"A challenge?" Ohktai grinned as he accepted the card. "Easy as cake. You'll be hearing from me in half an hour."
"Don't make promises you can't keep," Myōga winked then waved as he toddled off. "See you around!"
"See ya."
Ohktai tried to play it cool, watching Myōga disappear through the door with a swish of his long fluffy tail. He looked down at the business card as he pulled out his phone, immediately setting a 30 minute timer. There was no way he'd mess up such a golden opportunity.
+++
The line rang only twice before that familiar high and husky voice answered.
"Koimidaru Accessories, how may I help you?"
"Hey, is this Myōga?" Ohktai tried to play it cool, laying totally supine on his bed. "This is Ohktai from the coffee shop?"
"Wow, look at that! 30 minutes almost on the dot, I'm impressed!"
"I aim to please," The half-orc rumbled. "What kinda shop is this anyways?"
"Ohh, trinkets, knick-knacks, accessories, sorta catch-all."
"Cool, you like working there?"
There was a beat of silence that made his neck sweat.
"Sorry, hahaha, I dropped the key to the register. Yeah, I do! My uncle got me the gig and housing is included so it's a pretty sweet deal. We make just enough to get by and it's pretty quiet around here."
Ohktai looked at the business card again. The address wasn't too far from his apartment. It seemed like a recipe for disaster to have such a lovely looking catboy living and working so close to the orcish district but maybe he was left alone.
"What about you?"
"Me? Ohhh," Ohktai didn't want to lie but he also didn't want to scare Myōga off. Then again, most people who looked at him assumed he was Yakuza anyways so it wasn't like he was hiding himself. "I just recently changed career paths, kinda taking it easy for now until I can get steady work again."
"Aw, well good luck with that! I hope you find something nice!"
"Thanks, that's real sweet of you."
There was some ambient noise on the other line, maybe the ring of the front door and the swishing of fabric.
"Here, since you kept your promise, I'll give you my phone number. Are you talking to me on your cell right now?"
"Yeah, I am."
Within a few seconds, Ohktai's phone vibrated. He pulled it off his ear and smiled at the message he'd just received.
Unknown: Hiii (´・ω・`)
The half-orc chuckled at the cutesy emoticon. He didn't think people even used them anymore but coming from Myōga, it was rather charming.
"I gotta get going, sorry, some people just came in. Text me whenever, okay? I'd uhm... Love to get to know you. Maybe we can meet up at Labu Labu again?"
In the haze of adoration, Ohktai forgot the name of his favorite cafe. It took him a moment to respond.
"Uhh yeah, sounds like a date," He bit down on his fist, worried about sounding too eager, but did his best to still sound suave. "Lemme know when you're free, yeah?"
"Totally! Take it easy, Ohktai!"
"You too."
The line clicked off and Ohktai laid his head back, tracing nonsensical lines with his eyes around the ceiling. His heart pounded in his chest. For a moment, Tarkhan crossed his mind. Part of him wasn't really over the other orc. Their break-up had been rather messy. All apprehension melted away, however, when he remembered just how blue Myōga's eyes were and how he'd almost lost his breath when the catboy smiled. He texted him back immediately.
Me: Hey :)

The Ultimate Guide to Custom Indoor Signs in Calgary: Enhancing Your Business’s Branding and Functionality
In today’s competitive business environment, every detail matters when it comes to creating a memorable brand experience. One crucial element often overlooked by business owners is the use of custom indoor signs. These signs, whether for offices, retail spaces, or corporate lobbies, serve as more than just functional elements; they contribute significantly to branding, wayfinding, and creating an inviting atmosphere for clients, customers, and employees. This article will explore the importance of custom indoor signs in Calgary, the types available, their benefits, and tips on how to effectively integrate them into your business.
Why Custom Indoor Signs Matter in Calgary
Custom indoor signs are an essential part of any business environment. Whether you own a retail store in downtown Calgary, manage a corporate office in the suburbs, or operate a local healthcare facility, indoor signs are vital for several reasons:
Brand Identity: Custom signs are a powerful tool for reinforcing your brand. Using your company’s colors, fonts, logos, and messaging on your signs ensures consistency in how your business is perceived by both clients and staff.
Wayfinding: For larger offices, healthcare facilities, or event spaces, wayfinding signs help guide visitors efficiently, reducing confusion and improving the overall customer experience.
Enhancing the Environment: Custom indoor signage can also enhance the ambiance of a space. By choosing materials and designs that reflect the style and tone of your business, you can create an atmosphere that supports your brand values and promotes a positive experience.
Compliance and Safety: In certain industries, signage is necessary for compliance with local regulations and safety standards. From exit signs to fire safety instructions, these signs can help avoid legal issues and ensure the well-being of employees and clients.
Types of Custom Indoor Signs for Calgary Businesses
Custom indoor signs come in a wide variety of styles, materials, and uses. Understanding the options available will help you choose the right signs for your space. Here are some popular types of custom indoor signs for businesses in Calgary:
1. Lobby and Reception Signs
Your reception area is the first place visitors will see when they enter your business. A custom lobby sign can make a lasting impression. Typically made from materials like acrylic, metal, or wood, these signs often feature your company logo and may include the name of your business or specific departments. In Calgary, where businesses are often looking to stand out in a competitive market, a high-quality, visually appealing lobby sign can set the tone for the rest of the customer experience.
2. Wayfinding Signs
Whether you're managing a large office building, a healthcare facility, or a university campus, wayfinding signs are crucial for helping people navigate the space. Custom directional signs can be placed at key locations, pointing people to restrooms, elevators, meeting rooms, or exits. In Calgary’s bustling business districts, where buildings can be vast, wayfinding signage can reduce stress and ensure visitors easily find their destinations.
3. Dimensional Letters and Logos
Custom dimensional letters are a popular choice for businesses that want a more sophisticated look. These 3D signs are often used in office spaces, lobbies, or conference rooms to display company names, logos, or slogans. Whether in brushed metal, acrylic, or wood, dimensional letters offer depth and dimension, making them a striking addition to any Calgary business.
4. Wall Graphics and Murals
Wall graphics are an excellent way to turn plain walls into powerful branding tools. Custom wall decals and murals can showcase your brand’s colors, message, or even inspirational quotes that reflect your company’s ethos. In Calgary’s competitive business environment, custom wall murals can transform any office or retail space into a dynamic and memorable environment.
5. Informational and Instructional Signs
In addition to aesthetic signage, many businesses in Calgary need custom informational signs. These could be signs indicating company policies, instructions for employees, or regulatory information. Whether in retail stores, schools, or corporate offices, these signs are vital for clarity and communication.
The Benefits of Custom Indoor Signs for Calgary Businesses
Investing in custom indoor signage offers a range of benefits that can significantly enhance your business in Calgary. Here are some of the key advantages:
1. Improved Brand Recognition
Custom indoor signs are a direct reflection of your business’s identity. By incorporating your logo, brand colors, and messaging, these signs create a cohesive and professional look throughout your space. When done right, your signage will help establish brand recognition and trust among customers and visitors.
2. Enhanced Customer Experience
In Calgary, where businesses are vying for customer attention, the user experience matters. Custom indoor signs help improve the flow of foot traffic, making spaces more navigable and reducing confusion. Whether it's a wayfinding sign in a medical office or a lobby sign at a law firm, a seamless customer experience contributes to positive impressions and return business.
3. Effective Communication
Indoor signs can be used to communicate a wide range of messages, from instructions and rules to promotions and upcoming events. This can be especially valuable in retail stores or event venues in Calgary, where keeping customers informed can boost engagement and sales.
4. Professional Appearance
Well-designed and strategically placed indoor signage creates a polished, professional atmosphere. This can be especially important in Calgary’s business landscape, where first impressions can significantly influence client relationships and business success. Custom signs show that you’ve put thought into your business environment and care about the details.
5. Cost-Effective Marketing Tool
Custom indoor signs are a one-time investment with long-term benefits. Once created, they continue to work for your brand day in and day out, promoting your message without recurring costs. This makes them an excellent cost-effective tool for businesses in Calgary, where advertising budgets may be tight.
Factors to Consider When Designing Custom Indoor Signs
To ensure your custom indoor signs stand out and perform their intended purpose, it’s essential to pay attention to the design and placement of your signs. Here are some factors to keep in mind:
1. Legibility
Your signs should be easy to read from a distance. Opt for clear fonts, high-contrast colors, and a size that is visible from various angles. Whether it's a reception sign or wayfinding signage, ensuring that your message is legible is key to its effectiveness.
2. Material Choice
The material you choose for your signs plays a significant role in the overall look and durability. Popular materials include acrylic, wood, aluminum, and foam. The material you choose should align with your business's aesthetic and budget, as well as the intended location (indoor vs. outdoor).
3. Brand Consistency
Your signage should reflect your brand’s identity, including colors, fonts, and logos. Consistency across all signs, both indoor and outdoor, strengthens brand recognition and helps establish a professional, unified image.
4. Location and Placement
The placement of your custom indoor signs can make all the difference. Be sure to position them in high-traffic areas where they’ll be noticed, such as entranceways, hallways, or near elevators. Signs should be placed strategically to guide visitors and enhance the flow of the space.
5. Compliance with Regulations
Depending on your industry, certain regulations may dictate the types of signage you need, especially for safety or accessibility. Ensure your custom indoor signs meet local codes in Calgary and adhere to guidelines related to accessibility, fire safety, and more.
Where to Get Custom Indoor Signs in Calgary
For businesses in Calgary looking to create high-quality, custom indoor signs, it's important to work with experienced professionals. Local sign companies offer a range of services, including design, fabrication, and installation. Partnering with an expert ensures that your custom indoor signs are not only visually appealing but also built to last.
When choosing a sign company in Calgary, consider their portfolio, customer reviews, and ability to deliver within your budget and timeline. Whether you need a simple logo sign or an elaborate wayfinding system, a reputable local company will help bring your vision to life.
Conclusion
Custom indoor signs are an essential component of your business in Calgary. From improving brand visibility and customer experience to enhancing the overall ambiance of your space, these signs play a pivotal role in your business’s success. By carefully selecting the right type of sign, material, and design, you can create a lasting impression on clients, employees, and visitors alike. Whether you are looking to elevate your corporate office, retail store, or healthcare facility, custom indoor signs are a powerful tool for enhancing your business’s environment and reinforcing your brand identity.

Brand Recognition
Consistent, visually striking signage makes your brand memorable and helps customers recognize your business across locations.
Increased Visibility

Types of Building Signage for Small and Large Businesses
At Signage Mates, we offer various building signage options tailored to different industries and scales:
Illuminated Signs
Perfect for businesses that operate during the evening, illuminated signs enhance visibility and create a striking impression. Options include LED, neon, and backlit signs.
3D Lettering and Logos
Adding depth and dimension to your signage, 3D elements convey sophistication and ensure your business stands out.
Window Graphics
A cost-effective option, window graphics utilize your storefront windows to display branding, promotions, or essential information.
Pylon and Monument Signs
Ideal for large businesses or multi-tenant locations, these signs provide high visibility from a distance.
Wall-Mounted and Facade Signs
Designed to integrate seamlessly with your building’s architecture, these signs maximize aesthetic appeal and functionality.
