Hide and seek

Tanjirou has realized that he has a strange reaction to Himejima's scent; whenever the alpha is close, Tanjirou's inner omega has a very strong need to purr and run towards him to hug him. He's not sure why, maybe he just wants to feel protected by an alpha?

His mother didn't actually have the time to explain all those things to him; he was constantly busy trying to sell charcoal and then... She was gone with all his siblings but one.

"Are you alright?" One of the butterfly girls asks and the three of them gather around Tanjirou's bed.

"Yes, I'm fine!" He assures them. Although whenever he remembers his family, the need to have Himejima with him grows stronger.

"You smell sad!" Says another, almost pouting.

Trying to calm them down, the omega smiles before giving all of them a couple of headpats.

Then, the scent hits him. Himejima's scent is getting stronger and Tanjirou hears his heavy footsteps approaching the recovery room. He had no idea he was in the butterfly estate too.

He walks in the room and his presence almost makes the omega forget there are other people inside. It surprises him for a moment how easy the alpha moves around; he must know the place by heart.

"How did you know I was here?" He asks, genuinely curious before the stone hashira leans closer to him and scoops him up.

"You smell sad," he says suddenly. "I was worried and I followed your scent."

Himejima must've an incredible sense of smell too, because even though alphas are very aware of omegas' scents it doesn't mean they can find them that easily just by following their smell.

Feeling his inner omega purring, Tanjirou nuzzles against Himejima's chest, immediately relaxing into the embrace.

Himejima has become a really good friend of his, one that Tanjirou wants to have really close forever.

The next time he finds out Himejima is in the butterfly estate, Tanjirou decides to hide, he doesn't know why, he just has the need to do it. It's not like he doesn't want to see the alpha, on the contrary, he really wants the stone hashira to look for him and find him.

"I'll be in Nezuko's room," he tells Aoi, she nods until he adds: "Don't tell Himejima where I am though!"

At first Aoi frowns in confusion, but after noticing Tanjirou's smile and the omega's excitement in his scent, her eyes open wide.

"Are you sure about this, Tanjirou?"

"Of course!" Tanjirou nods, feeling confused for a moment, but pushing the sensation down because his omega is getting desperate to hide.

"Well... If this is what you want. I won't wish you good luck because I know he feels the same."

Yes, Tanjirou is sure Himejima also sees him as a friend too... Although Aoi certainly phrases it in a very weird way.

He stays with Nezuko and talks a little bit about his friends with her; the demon girl seems to be really happy to see Tanjirou smiling so much lately and she points that out with a couple of hand gestures.

It doesn't take too long for Himejima to find him.

"Tanjirou? May I come in?"

"Of course, Himejima-san!" The omega almost purrs, barely controlling the warm feeling spreading down towards his chest.

Even though the alpha doesn't know exactly where Nezuko is, he still says "Hello" to the demon girl who hums approvingly in return. Although the stone hashira doesn't seem to have any problems finding Tanjirou because suddenly a huge hand grabs the omega by the shoulder.

Tanjirou can't help it, he feels too pleased about it for some reason, he doesn't quite understand it.

"Nobody knew where you were..." Himejima comments before taking the redhead in his arms pressing him closer to his chest.

"I wanted you to find me!" Tanjirou chuckles. "I told Aoi not to say anything!"

"Really?" Himejima mumbles, face turning slightly pink, but his scent smells quite pleased. "You wanted me to..."

For a moment Tanjirou thinks he's done something wrong because nothing leaves Himejima speechless... But then, the alpha starts nuzzling Tanjirou's cheek almost lovingly.

"I'm really happy you have chosen me, Tanjirou. I'll do my best to make you happy."

Tanjirou's so distracted by the sudden warm and fuzzy sensation he feels in his chest and the way his omega reacts to Himejima's alpha scent, he doesn't pay too much attention to those last words. Instead, following his instincts, he rubs his nose against Himejima's.

"Can I take him outside to get him something to eat, Nezuko?"

Tanjirou is not sure why Himejima is asking for Nezuko's permission, but the demon girl nods at him nonetheless.

He eats sitting on Himejima's lap, feeling the alpha's chin against the top of his head every now and then; Tanjirou doesn't even question it, he just feels really happy to be with him.

Tanjirou keeps hiding, Himejima always looks for him and hugs him when he finds him. Sometimes he asks for something in return, like a kiss on the cheek or the forehead... Things that Tanjirou is more than happy to give him.

"Can I scent you?" He mumbles one day, after getting Tanjirou down from a tree.

The omega is more than happy to let him do it, although Tanjirou is not entirely sure why Himejima wants to do that.

"Yes," it comes out in a whisper as the omega's cheeks turn slightly pink with excitement before he gasps when he feels Himejima's nose and lips in the curve of his neck.

When the omega's scent combines with the alpha's, Himejima hums satisfied before pressing his lips against Tanjirou's cheek.

Something has changed between them, Tanjirou can feel it even before Himejima comes back to the butterfly estate and gives Tanjirou a bouquet of flowers the next time he finds the omega.

He needs to speak to someone about it...

"Aoi... Can I talk to you?"

"Of course... Although make it quick because I have to go to the recovery room and get Inosuke to drink his medicine as soon as possible..."

The beta girl turns around, sees the flowers and notices Tanjirou's scent even before the omega mentions anything.

"I'm glad Himejima-san has started to court you."

"What?" Tanjirou's face turns completely red just in seconds and it gets even worse when Aoi stares back at him in confusion.

"Well... What did you expect? You were flirting with him this whole time... And the poor thing was already in love so–"

"I-I haven't been flirting with him!" Tanjirou stammers, although his inner omega protests at that... Perhaps he unconsciously did that? Is Himejima angry with him?

"What do you mean?" Aoi is getting desperate and irritated at the same time. "Hide and seek, Tanjirou! You've been hiding from him and telling him to find you!"

"But it's just a game, I used to play it with my siblings..."

"It means nothing more than a game when you're still a pup, but you're an adult omega asking an alpha to look for you! It's a very common way to flirt with an alpha... You seriously didn't know?"

"My mother never got the chance to explain it to me..."

"Oh! I'm sorry, Tanjirou! I assumed–"

"It's alright, Aoi," he tries to reassure her, because he doesn't like to see her sad. Although his worry doesn't make the blush on his cheeks vanish. So that's probably why Tanjirou felt the need to hide from Himejima all this time... His omega wanted to draw the alpha's attention. "Do you think I should... apologize?"

"No, unless you don't actually feel the same and you're already thinking about rejecting him... Which is fine, Tanjirou. I'm sure he'll understand."

His inner omega protests at the thought of telling Himejima to stop courting him.

"No! I... I really like him. I'd be happy to be his omega," Tanjirou mumbles, blush spreading down his neck quickly. "I just... I don't want him to get mad at me for flirting with him like that..."

Aoi rolls her eyes at him.

"He always found you, didn't he? Which means he liked it. In fact, he loves you so much he just started courting you... So please don't apologize for that, he might get the wrong idea."

Tanjirou nods, although he still worries that's not exactly what Himejima wants. He's seriously considering talking to him about it when he comes back to the butterfly estate, takes Tanjirou in his arms and hands him a golden sun hair clip.

"The woman whom I bought it from said it was beautiful," Himejima mumbles before kissing Tanjirou's temple. "I really hope you like it."

"I do," the omega whispers shyly. He feels a little bit different now that he knows what the hair clip means. For a moment, he thinks about asking Himejima about the courtship...

"I'm glad," he says, before pressing another kiss against Tanjirou's cheek. "I just want to make you happy. I truly love you, Tanjirou."

The omega purrs, absolutely pleased, he knows Himejima is telling the truth because of his scent and with that all of Tanjirou's fears disappear.

"I love you too," he mumbles before giving the alpha a quick kiss on the lips.

He can wait to tell Nezuko everything, although he has the feeling that she already knows.

"They haven’t interacted much since G/lee ended and until sometime last year. Suddenly it was all about being such close friends" I'm new to this and I've been following your blogs for a few months now. In all the proof there is out there for CC, one of the biggest is the no interaction for the past six years or so. How does that prove CC, but the case of L it doesn't hold up? Maybe they interact privately, we're not privy to every detail. I'm genuinely curious as to why that's different.

This isn’t exactly a 2-part ask, but I just want to add to my previous one about the interaction with L. I’m new, I haven’t been deep into fandom for a while, but I’ve been following. I mean no disrespect and I am genuinely curious because it seems like a false equivalency. Anyway, hope you’re having a good day!

Don’t worry, I’m not seeing your asks as being disrespectful in any way and I’ll gladly try to explain this. 🙂 Sometimes fandom can be confusing to all of us and it’s always okay to ask others for some information or clarification on things we would like to know more about. I just hope I can answer your question well enough though.

At first glance, it might look like the situations are similar, but when you look closer, you will notice the differences. With L, D and C both somehow interacted with her in some way at events or on social media, including liking her posts. It was not like they completely ignored her existence since 2015. But it’s also clear that it likely didn’t enter close friendship territory, as L has said herself that she never visited “D’s house” until that livestream last year. Of course we don’t know how much they speak privately, but the same goes for C and D. I’m very, very confident they talk daily, but we don’t get to see any of that either.

So, when it comes to D and C not interacting, it’s a bit different. Apart from two tweets in late 2015 and now the E/JAF dinner, they had no public interaction whatsoever, and both even acted like they suddenly had no clue about the other’s projects before and during G/l/ee, when they constantly mentioned those in interviews or in front of fans before. Plus, they both like posts/tweets by others or reply to or mention others from the former cast quite often - as long as the other isn’t mentioned or in a picture. This very obvious ignoring of anything related to the other is a huge sign in itself. They could simply interact like they do with everybody else, so why don’t they? This is certainly done on purpose.

Only if someone is hiding something they act in such a way. I mean, it already started during the show and only got worse after it. Like they were told not to interact in public because it might lead to even more rumors about their relationship… If they had been interacting regularly during those years, we might talk differently nowadays about this topic, but as it is, they only made it more obvious by ignoring everything about the other. Sometimes I compare it to a crush back in school. You acted normal towards everybody else, but when it came to your crush, you looked away on purpose and hoped that nobody would see it. Of course this was your decision, so it can’t be entirely compared, but I hope you understand what I’m trying to say. There are several more examples like this… In general, let’s say that it’s always obvious when you suddenly ignore somebody you “only” worked with and said was your friend. That makes everybody suspicious.

So, in the case of C and D and all their interaction in any way while the show was still airing, the lack of it now shows clearly that there’s much more going on. Especially because they publicly talk to everybody else, including L…
