People who have only read Inuyasha, fail to comprehend just how horny and delightfully weird Rumiko Takahashi's older works are. Because Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, and her short stories are loaded with fanservice, dirty jokes, and to be frank some of the weirdest plots ever.
Ranma 1/2 literally has an entire arc that is literally just boob puns. There's a character who changes age by absorbing people's battle aura. And there's literally a set of martial arts techniques based off different ways to steal from a house. And it's just jam packed with dirty jokes and nudity, because most of the cast is horny for another member of the love dodecahedron.
Urusei Yatsura has a storyline where Lum makes a cryptid using fossils and alien technology. There's another where alien entrepreneurs are selling personality switching ear muffs. In another arc the characters travel to a sort of pocket dimension where all the possible futures are made. While it's not a fanservicey a Ranma 1/2, there's a lot of dirty jokes, because Lum is pretty open about how much she wants Ataru and the cast is hornier than the cast of Ranma 1/2.
#you know both Ataru and Ranma could of gotten laid if they're were such jerks#or they were less awkward about physical intimacy

This one page completely broke me. There's so much emotion in just a few panels, I love it. There's just as much said with his face as there is with his words.
The pain in his eyes... for all he tries to deny it, he deeply cares for Akane. Despite all his constant jabs, all the constant bickering, he never wanted to hurt her, not really. Not like this.
Yet here she is, the one person he cares for more than anything, saying the easiest way to get someone to hate him so much they just leave, is to treat them the same way he treats her.
And he just... stops. Processing. So many moments replaying in his head. He doesn't have any comebacks, no defensive comments, no attempts at denying his feelings. Just immediately trying to assess how much damage he's actually done, how badly he's hurt her, without even trying.
She just kind of brushes it off, but she does so with a smile. She sees the uncertainty in his eyes, the concern in his voice. So she reassures him, she's still right there
Of course, he IS still a dumbass when it comes to these things, so...

I'm pretty sure if you showed this page to chapter 1 Ranma he'd have a stroke
He's losing a 'cuteness competition' because pretty much everyone knows about his curse by now. So how does he respond? By putting on a wig to keep them from recognizing him... and a playboy bunny suit.
He went from "I'd rather be buck naked than wear girls clothes" to "willingly wearing a playboy bunny suit to make guys think he's cute" and I think thats progress. He's getting more comfortable with both forms at least.
#ranma 1/2#its nice seeing him get more comfortable with both forms but when he started at 'you're not putting me in tights' this is quite a way#ranma ½#saotome ranma#ranma saotome#cryptid says stuff#ranma 1/2 manga#ranma ½ manga#cryptid's ranma 1/2 arc

Look at that face. She wants him so bad
#I've only got like 50 or so chapters left and I don't know if I wanna keep going because I'm not ready for the story to be over#so I'm just gonna procrastinate a lil with some of the dozens of panels I have saved that never became their own posts#ranma 1/2#ranma ½#ranma 1/2 manga#ranma ½ manga#akane tendo#tendo akane#ranma saotome#saotome ranma#rankane#ranma x akane#cryptid says stuff#cryptid's ranma 1/2 arc

"This is stupid" she says, doing it anyway
The fact she even bothered with the idea says something. She doesn't really believe it'll work, but what if it does?
Despite all their fighting, they both love each other, whether they'll admit it or not. Wouldn't it be nice to know if they're truly meant to be?
What if they really are?
But Ranma being too scared to eat it says even more. He doesn't really believe it'll work, but what if it does?

What if they really aren't?
He can't do it. So he does what he always does when he has to confront how he feels about her. He complains about not wanting to have his future decided for him, throws out an insult aimed in her direction, and tries to brush it off. Just like he's been doing since day one.

Ranma saying how much he wants to break the curse to go back to normal, doesn't want a fiance, claims he's better looking as a girl anyways, and immediately getting flattened by said fiance with a table, all in the span of 30 seconds, will never not be iconic to me.
They're getting along so well :)
#ranma 1/2#there's a lot more context in the scene that makes it so much better but I just find it funny he managed all that in such a short time#ranma 1/2 2024#ranma saotome#saotome ranma#cryptid says stuff#ranma ½#ranma ½ 2024#cryptid's ranma 1/2 arc

Just discovered Ranma 1/2 for the first time through the 2024 reboot, and now I'm wondering what the best way to experience the story would be.
I know there's another season confirmed for the reboot, so I'll definitely be watching that when it comes out, but I know there's also the original manga and the first anime out there. The 1989 anime apparently has some issues with staying faithful to the original story, and from what little of it I've seen so far, I can say the characters do feel a bit different.
Anyway, I'm just curious where people who know the series far better than me would suggest starting. I'm probably going to end up reading the manga first, but I'm still curious
These two martial artists have infested the crevices of my brain and don't feel like they're going anywhere anytime soon.

So I just got to the part where they introduce Principal Kuno and I swear every single panel he's in feels absolutely wild. He makes everyone else seem perfectly sane
Look at that face. Doesn't it just scream "I'm mentally stable enough to be trusted with your children! :D"
He just has these vibes that clash wonderfully against the rest of the cast, I love it. Absolute menace to society. The whole Kuno family is nuts

Discovered Ranma 1/2 for the first time. For those who haven't heard of it, basic premise is that Ranma Satome and Akane Tendo are in an arranged marage by their fathers, intended to unite both their family's martial arts schools. Neither of them are thrilled about it.
Oh and because of his dumbass father bringing him to a legendary training ground in China and not stopping long enough to heed the warnings, Ranma has a curse that causes him to turn into a girl whenever he's splashed by cold water. Hot water reverses the effects. Also an important detail.
Enjoying it so far. Went back to watch some of the original 1989 run, and while they did have to condense some parts of the story in the new version, it seems to be an improvement in every way. Looking forward to seeing more whenever the next season comes out, hopefully. Not sure if that's been confirmed yet.
#there's probably something to unpack with how quickly I latched onto the characters and concept of the show but thats for another day#I love these two stupid martial artists they care about each other but their pride keeps getting in the way#he says he hates the curse and then says how hot he is as a girl in the same breath...#genderfluid ranma for the win#ranma 1/2#cryptid says stuff#ranma 1/2 2024#undecided if I'm gonna read/watch past the point of the reboot so far or not but probably gonna wait#cryptid's ranma 1/2 arc

I've started reading the manga, btw. Already past where the reboot stopped for the season.
I've seen up until Ryoga's into in all 3 versions at this point, and its safe to say the reboot is SIGNIFICANTLY closer to the manga. Its not that the anime is bad, but it just feels different from both the others in a few ways I can't quite put a pin on. Its not bad, but it'll probably be the last version I fully check out.
I think from what I've seen of all of them so far, the manga is probably my favorite. I LOVE the reboot, don't get me wrong. The animation is great, everything feels much higher quality, and its what introduced me to the series. But the manga has the most to it. Its the full, original story.
Almost definitely going to go back to the 1989 anime at some point, if for no other reason than to compare the three. But yeah, I went with the manga for now.
I am still curious to hear what people think! Adaptation differences are always interesting, and I wanna know what people think of the different versions of the story!
