Water and Fire
"The most vivid thing I remember as a child?
I remember water
I remember my fully clothed body being dipped deep, and how the chill stroke my skin and froze my bones
I remember those bubbles, those bubbles floating in front of my teary eyes
I remember trying to gulp some air, but then I felt like something sharp stabbed into my head through my nose, I tried to open my mouth but the bubbly water kept coming, it went straight into my nose, my throat, and all I could see is bubbles
It hurts
I couldn't breath
Somebody drown me
And just when I got out of the water and opened my eyes,
I knew
It was my mom."

"The most vivid thing I remember as a child?
I remember fire
It was huge, majestic, too captivating I was stunned for a while, seeing the tip of its flames rising to the sky from afar
Then one sudden crowd slapped me. Everyone is pointing towards the same direction. There's fire, they said. Call the firemen, they said. One of them actually came towards me. "Are you okay, child?" he asked.
No, I'm not.
I grab my saddle, I rode my bycicle closer, my heart beats ten times faster. All I could see is the flame and how the fog overwhelming that otherwise red evening sky.
I couldn't breath. My house was on fire Just when those firemen pull a black plastic bag on the crane from our front doorI threw my bycicle and ran
I knew
It was my mom."
