âWhat do androids do in their free time, anyway?â
âPlot against humanity? I dunno.â
Hankâs laugh came out in a quiet huff, one that indicated he didnât think your answer was too far from the truth.Â
You had come into the precinct hoping to interview Hank and Connor on their latest investigation surrounding a human cult determined to wipe out every single android. As head journalist for the Detroit Free Press, you were desperate to get word before everyone else. And as Connorâs friend, you were sure you could sweet-talk it out of him.Â
But when you got to the precinct, Connor was, strangely, nowhere to be found. Usually, he trailed behind Hank like a lost puppy, but not even Hank knew of Connorâs whereabouts. His unusual absence only led to conversations about what the hell an android could be doing on his lonesome. Neither of you had any clue.
âHave a seat, kid,â Hank offered, nudging his chin over to Connorâs desk. âYou know heâd feel bad if you were standinâ around waiting for him.âÂ
Rounding the table, you took a seat in Connorâs chair. You sat stiffly with your hands atop your thighs, the exact same way Connor would. The realization made you chuckle softly to yourself. Even when he wasnât here, his presence always made itself known in the subtlest of ways.
Your eyes wandered across Connorâs desk, noticing that it was relatively barren. Hankâs desk was littered with mementosâ old donut boxes, Detroit Gears merchandise, anti-android propaganda that heâd crumpled up and intended to trash. But Connorâs desk was plain and organized. A single blue pen sat exactly parallel to his recent case file that had been neatly folded. On top of his case file was a quarter like the one he always fidgeted with. You wondered idly how many quarters he had lying around, having never seen him without one. But the only belonging of actual interest was a picture frame right beside his terminal.
Your brows furrowed as your gaze latched onto the photograph. You were staring directly at a picture of yourself.
Believing it to be a trick of the light, you reached for the picture frame and brought it closer. Sure enough, it was you. Â
You stared at a version of yourself who was mid-laugh. You could almost hear your own laughter ringing in your ears. It was that genuine kind of laughter, you knew. The kind that was an obnoxious cackle you always wanted to hide. Why on earth would Connor have a picture like that framed?
Come to think of it, where did Connor even get this picture? You didnât recognize it at all. You couldnât even place where it was taken. There were zero clues in the photograph as you were the only focus. Nothing else, just you.
You were about to ask Hank about it when a voice over your shoulder startled you, âI really like that picture.â
An inhuman yelp escaped your lips as you spun around in Connorâs chair. You found him looking down at you with a pleasant smile, not even remotely embarrassed to be caught having a photo of you.
âWhy⌠what even⌠what?â you stammered.
Connor cocked his head curiously, waiting for you to get your words out. But you couldnât. You were so utterly confused that your brain couldnât remember a single word in existence. You just stared at Connor with a gaping mouth, holding the picture up for his viewing pleasure.Â
When you didnât say anything, Connorâs eyebrows furrowed for only a moment before easing. An endearing habit of his that made your heart flutter. He definitely was not helping you find the right words.Â
âIâd like to clear your confusion as best I can, but⌠Iâm afraid I donât understand its cause,â Connor said gently.
From behind, you heard Hankâs quiet snort. He wasnât helping either.
âWell⌠Connor,â you started slowly like you were gradually putting the puzzle pieces together. No matter how hard you tried, the pieces werenât fitting. âWhy do you have a picture of me?â
The corners of his lips raised into a small grin, his hands moving to clasp in front of him. You knew this stance to mean he was about to tell a story.
âI asked Lieutenant Anderson about the keepsakes on his desk. I was curious as to why these particular items were objects of significance and what classified them as such,â Connor explained cheerfully. âAs I recall, he said âI donât know, theyâre just alright, I guess.â Perhaps my interpretation was incorrect, but I took that to mean those items made him happy.â
Connorâs smile widened slightly. That meant he was finished. He didnât clear any of your confusion.
âOkayâŚ?â you prompted.
âI wanted to do something similar. I thought it could help me accommodate to deviancy, so I decided to surround myself with things that make me happy.â
Your mouth clamped shut as your confused look turned to one of shock. You were almost sure you hadnât heard him right, but another laugh (hidden behind a cough) from Hank made you confident that you had.
âI⌠make you happy?â you clarified.
âYes,â Connor answered curtly. There was another long pause as you waited for Connor to continue. He seemed to get the hint by now, elaborating further. âI always enjoy your company. I look forward to seeing you when we have scheduled plans. This wasnât a scheduled visit, so I was pleased to see you were here. It made me smile. Seeing you makes me smile.â
With all his talk of smiling, you couldnât help cracking one of your own. Seeing your smile made Connor brighten.
âLike that,â he said. âIf I could photograph and frame you right now, I would.â
You were so giddy with affection that you couldnât help but laugh. You had never known Connor to be so poetic with his words.
âYou know, Connor,â you said with careless laughter. âI came here to sweet-talk you into an interview for the Press. But here you are sweet-talking me.â
Connor looked pleased with himself, standing a little straighter. âI hope that made you smile.â
âIt certainly did.â

Happy Valentines Day
(Connor Rk800 x Fem Reader)
Warnings: Idk NSFW so 18+
Word count: 2422
Summary: It's Valentine's Day and instead of making Connor dinner you let him fuck your brains out.
A/N: This took way longer than it should have. It's pretty mid.
Tags: If you're still interested @joelsfavoritegirl
You were a festive person. Always have and always will be. Valentine's was your favorite holiday not only because of the pink and red strewn across supermarkets and stores but because it was a day of love: a reason to celebrate you and Connorâs union. You were sentimental. Sensitive and a bit of a sappy girl when it came to things like that. Connor was fully aware of it. He made note of it when you first got together. How you pouted up at him. Your bottom lip jutting out slightly covered in your lipgloss. When things didnât go your way your pretty doe eyes would water with tears and coat your spiky lashes. Seeing you so whiney and needy all the time was an adorable sight. Especially when it came to him. Youâd pout every time he had to leave for the DPD every morning. Today was no different.
âDo you have to go?â You fluttered your lashes up at him.Â
Connor turned his head to look at you while he did his tie. His hands skilfully mastered it. He felt his resolve waver seeing you so like that. Youâd just gotten up. Hair was a bit messy, eyes a bit tired but what you wore got him. It was the babydoll nightdress. Baby pink in color and the cups on it hugged your tits so nicely. It was sheer and cut off at the top of your plush thighs. He had to resist throwing you on the bed and just fucking your brains out. Poor baby girl didnât know what you were doing to him.
âI have to. Hank needs me for another case. Plus whoâs gonna make enough money to take care of you?â He cooed down at you with his signature smirk.Â
You huffed out a sigh nodding in understanding. âOkay but are you gonna be home on time to celebrate? To eat dinner and doâŚ.other activities?â You blushed at the hint you threw out. Connor had been balls deep inside of you, lapped viciously at your pussy, and had you whining and calling him daddy yet you were still so timid. He nodded his head trying to hide his amusement at your shyness.Â
âOf course,â He smoothed out his jacket and reached a hand out to you. He cupped your face, his thumb brushing your cheek and relishing in its softness. âIâll never keep you waiting. You know that.â He leaned down and placed a peck on your lips. He could taste that lingering lip balm on you. Cherry. You always had to have it cherry-flavored. He licked his lips tasting it and hummed. He reluctantly let you go as soon as he felt his cock begin to throb to life. Just kissing you was enough to send him into a feral mood.
âIâll see you tonight.â He promised you and grabbed his car keys leaving you wanting and yearning for him. Â
You filled your day with meaningful tasks despite the growing ache of Connor leaving you high and dry. You were dedicated to making this Valentineâs Day one he would remember.Â
You had decorated your shared home in heart-shaped garlands and had a few scented candles going. If it was any other Valentineâs Day involving a human with functioning organs then you would have made a delicious meal and set wine out. However, this was Connor an RK800 model who didnât need food or water to keep functioning. So you had to get creative which was why when he came home he was happy to see the festive decor, the soft glow of the candles around the living room, and the trail of petals leading to the bedroom.
You knew it was a bit cheesy of a tactic and overused but what other things could you have possibly used as a romantic trial? Connor had come home with flowers and of course, a gift for you held in the other hand. âY/NâŚâ He called out softly as he pushed open the bedroom door. If he had lungs they would have surely strained and stopped his breathing. Heâd seen you in proactive wear before but this was the cherry on top.Â
You sat knelt on the plush soft bed with each leg under you. You wore a babydoll lingerie top that cupped your breasts, making them sit so pretty on your chest. The top was thin, sheer, and baby pink bringing out the color of your skin. A pretty bow sat in the middle between the valley of your breast effectively accentuating your body. A thong was keeping your pretty puffy lips in place from falling out. Connor could see you went all out this year. He set the gifts for you on the dresser and walked meaningfully towards you.
âYou like it?â You giggled softly a playful smirk on your pouty lips. Connor sat down next to you, the bed dipping in the process. âOf course I do sweetie.â He moved your hair aside with his hand and leaned in kissing you on the exposed skin of your neck. You inhaled sharply your eyes softening and body feeling like putty.Â
Connor was programmed to analyze and interrogate deviants. So, naturally, he was able to figure out what aroused you and what didnât. He knew of all the special spots on your lovely skin. His lips skilfully kissed your neck leaving hot wet kisses. You mewled delightfully for him making his cock harden.
He leaned into your ear whispering, âYou sound so fucking pretty.âÂ
It caused a pink shade to cover your supple cheeks. He never ceased to make you blush even when he wasnât trying to fuck you.
âLay down, I wanna taste you.â He lightly pushed you down to lay on the bed. Your hair was sprawled across the sheets and your arms were at your side. Connor spread your legs and dragged you towards the edge of the bed. He kneeled before you, slipping your thong off. His fingers skillfully spread your puffy folds revealing your wet slick cunt.Â
âI havenât even touched you and you're already soaking.â He smiled cruelly at you.Â
âConnorâŚâ You whined out, hips bucking up to get him to taste you, finger you, anything.Â
He laughed at your desperation, âAlways so needy.â Connor didnât want to give in to you just yet. He wanted to draw it out, have you begging for him to touch you. His plans quickly changed when he saw your pleading eyes and fluttering lashes. You looked so docile and cute that he couldnât help but give in.Â
âYouâre lucky youâre cute.â He spread your pussy folds further getting a good look at how drenched you were before giving you a long lick. He was hungry for you, tongue swirling around your clit and lapping at your puffy folds.Â
âFuck C-Connor-â Your moans were broken and rough as he continued his assault. Your eyes rolled back and your hands immediately tugged on his hair.
âYou taste so good.â He muttered the vibrations of his voice over your clit caused you to throw your head back.Â
He took your whines as fuel and dipped his tongue deep inside your hole. He groaned feeling it grip and clench, greedy for anything to fill it. He retracted his tongue humming and relishing in the sweet taste of your juices.Â
âShh baby youâre doing so good for me.â He cooed to you and before you could reply he plunged two long and slender fingers into you. You gasped for air, body squirming under him. He had to hold you in place to keep you from moving.
âConnor I-I think Iâm gonna cum-â You choked out, voice cut off by his fingers slipping out with a loud squelch. He smirked down at you and you knew heâd refuse to give you an orgasm. At least not with his fingers.
âConnor, please.â You whined out for him desperately clawing at his trousers and tugging his belt. You wanted to see him, stop this torture, and have him fuck you raw.
He smiled down at you, tilting his head slightly to the side. âYouâre so needy Y/N.â Connor slapped his hand down on your cunt making you yelp. It came out breathy and far from painful. His hand smacked you again, hitting deliciously against your throbbing clit.
Connor engrained your reaction into his hardware, studying, and learning. He yanked off your babydoll lingerie, pulling it over your head and leaving you in nothing but your bare skin.Â
Connor was quick, fingers deftly opening each button of his shirt. His belt was next, his hands deftly moving to unbuckle it. He threw it on the floor, making it clang against the hardwood. He pushed down his trousers and underwear down and his face fell in relief. His cock sprang free, the head was swollen and leaking pre cum.Â
At the sight of it, you felt your hole flutter and clench around nothing. You squirmed on the bed, withering in need. âConnor please, please, Iâve been a good. girlâ You mewled out, batting your sweet lashes up at him.
There was something so thrilling and almost primal about you laying before him so vulnerable. The way you begged for his cock had him hardening even more. You never ceased to make his heart clench and cock jump from how sweet you were.âShh, baby it's okay. Iâll give this pussy what it needs.â He cooed to you so softly.
Connor pumped his cock a few times, his pre cum seeping from the tip and spreading over his shaft. He pushed your legs up to your chest and lined his cock up to your hole. He could see your pretty pussy tighten up in anticipation. An amused exhale left his nose as he looked up into your eyes. They were foggy, glassy with lust and pure need.Â
Connor pushed the head of his cock in and he groaned, hand coming down to the side of your head to brace himself. He gripped the bedsheets below you two and his face scrunched up in restraint. He knew first penetration was always hard for you. Your poor pussy couldnât take so much cock so he had to take his time. He struggled to keep his composure and just thrust his full length into you. He knew if he did you'd cry out, sob, and claw at him. It was thrilling.
He sighed out and smoothed the skin on your hip with his palm. "Relax baby." With each second that passed he slipped in further and further in taking his time to stretch you out.
You were a mess below him, clawing at his shoulders and back. If he were human you would be sure he'd have red claw marks on his porcelain skin.
You panted like a bitch in heat, cunt clamping hard on him. âM-more, more Connor, I can take it.â You pouted up to him.
Connor chuckled at your bold statement. âYou can take it huh?âÂ
âY-yeah I can take it-â
Connor slammed his cock into you causing a yelp to escape your throat. The big stretch was painful as his tip bumped your cervix. Your body jolted upwards away from him but he just pulled his cock out and shoved it in again.
âThought you could take it, princess. This is what youâve been whining about?â Connor smiled down at you cruelly. He folded you in half, pushing your legs farther up to your chest. His cock slipped further in, making a lewd squelching sound.
âY-yes!â You cried out in response.
âThen stop fucking complaining and take my cock like a good girl.â Connor leaned down and kissed you roughly, tongue slipping into your mouth. His hand gripped your chin as he pumped his cock into you.
His heavy balls slapped against the plump flesh of your ass. The noise echoed around the room, bouncing off the walls and into your ear. Your juices leaked out of your cunt, coating his cock and dripping down his balls. He could feel it warm them and groaned into your mouth. He pulled back from the kiss, leaning his forehead against yours. âThatâs my good princess, fuck clench down just like that.âÂ
You blushed, your pussy clamping down on him just from the compliment. âAhh! Mphm! FuckâŚConnor!â You were loud letting high-pitched moans fall from your pouty lips. Your eyes rolled back and you bit down on your lip relishing in the sweet bliss of his cock.
âDonât do that. I wanna hear you.â Connor smacked your face lightly and you released your bottom lip from your teeth.Â
âC-Connor Iâm not gonna- I canât-â Your words were chopped up, as you struggled to speak. They came out in whiney babbles and Connor couldnât help but become amused. He thought you looked so cute like that. Your face controted into pleasure, words not even forming sentences just sounds. He loved seeing you completely drunk on his cock.Â
âGood girl, just like that.â He praised you. He pressed the pad of his thumb to your swollen clit, rubbing slow and tight circles around it. You cried out, clawing at his back. Your bambi eyes brimmed with tears. You blinked, lashes fluttering and coated in the wetness. Fat tears rolled down your pink cheeks as you came.
Connor noticed but didn't fret. You would cry often due to the pure delight of cumming. He leaned down, cooing to you and licking them up with his tongue. He could taste the bitter and salty flavor of your tears.
That simple act made your walls clench down on his throbbing cock. Your legs locked him in place, wrapped around his waist and not letting him retract further than he should. He pounded into your soaking wet heat. âFuck!â He cursed as you milked his cock. One final thrust into your spongy sweet spot had Connor spilling ropes of cum deep into your pussy. He gave a few sloppy thrusts helping you both ride out your orgasms. Your cream and his cum oozed out as he pushed his cock deep in, making it overflow and spill. You poor pussy was a mess. All fucked out and painted white.
Connor panted for a few seconds but recovered quickly due to his android body. He placed sweet soft kisses on your red cheeks and your forehead. âYou did so good for me baby.â His voice was soft and sweet as he spoke.
You smiled up at him, panting softly, âHappy Valentine's Day.âÂ

a touch of emotion
Connor x Reader
Summary:Â After the meeting with Kamski, Connor feels conflicted and lost, luckily you're there to hold his hand through it.
A/N:Â DBH is one of my main comfort games, and it was about time I wrote a little something for my favorite boy from it. If anyone would like to see more of Connor here, let me know. <3
Masterlist
"Why didn't you shoot?" Hank inquires, narrowing his eyes inquisitively.
"I just saw that girl's eyes⌠And I couldn'tâŚ" Connor answers back, his voice edging on desperate. "That's all."
A howling wind prickles your skin like tiny needles. It was such a cold day, no wonder you hadn't been keen on coming out here today. Leaning back on the hood of Hank's car and pulling your coat tighter around yourself, you watch from afar as Connor tries to justify his choice, even if it had been the right one to make.
He intrigues you. Because for someone who keeps saying he's just a machine trying to accomplish a task, he acts way more human than a lot of people you know. Even on the day you'd met him, he was already all curious and talkative, you couldn't recall meeting any android like him before.
Connor has changed ever since you started working together, you realize it now more than ever. He's becoming softer, personality starting to shine through the cracks as his decisions become increasingly emotionally driven.
"Cyberlife's last chance to save humanity, is itself a deviant."
Kamski's words echoed inside your mind, as did Connor's panicked and distressed expression when he promptly denied it. Ironic, you think to yourself; he shouldn't feel as troubled as he does if what Kamski said is not true.
And that same feeling now lingers. Once they were done talking, Hank took a few steps away to make a call, most likely to the precinct judging by the scowl on his face; and Connor can't stand still, he's pacing around, fidgeting with the cuffs of his blazer as the snow shifts under his feet. There's a permanent frown on his eyebrows, he looks almost⌠lost, his LED with an insistent yellow color and gaze unfocused on the distance.
You worry your lower lip between your teeth, torn between reaching out to him or keeping to yourself. The snow falls heavier now, and you can feel the tips of your fingers slowly going numb. You've always liked the cold, yet it seems the cold doesn't like you.
Between the snow, the frozen lake, and the white horizon of the frigid weather, Connor stands out. He's holding onto his own arms, hugging himself, and you find it endearingly human, as if he's subconsciously trying to find a way to comfort himself.
You lay your palms flat on the hood of the car and push yourself away, walking up to him before you can think things through. The snow crunching under your feet doesn't seem to call his attention. "Connor?" You say gently, reaching out to him with your hand but stopping short of actually touching him. You hesitate. When did he start making you nervous?
"You okay?"
Those warm and tender brown eyes of his regard you with curiosity, lips half parted as he struggles on what to say. The LED on his temple switched from blue to yellow and blue again. "I- yes. I think I'm fine." Snowflakes are clinging to his hair and falling softly onto the skin of his cheeks; they compliment his features, always so gentle.
You offer him a small, comforting smile. He's still figuring himself out. It was okay, you were patient.
"I'm⌠sorry," Connor begins again, avoiding looking you directly in the eyes. He purses his lips and closes his eyes for a moment longer, and you doubt you've ever seen any android be this expressive.
"I compromised our investigation," he pauses, "I should have been more efficient." And reprimands himself.
You're shaking your head before he's even done talking. "No, don't say that," you take a step closer to him as your heart holds your reasoning hostage, one hand wrapping around Connor's wrist to keep him with you. "Don't say that when you've made the right choice, Connor."
There was a beat, Connor's face does something complicated that you cannot read, and when he looks up at you again, his gaze is almost too much. The amount of emotion he looked at you with nearly made you choke on air.
"But⌠we didn't learn anything." His voice is quiet, barely there, as if he doesn't care for his own argument and is only looking for an excuse to hear more of your voice.
"I don't care," the words fall from your lips before you can debate if you should even be saying them out loud at all.
Connor seems surprised, caught off guard as his eyebrows raise just slightly at how fast and true you spoke. His eyes keep searching your face for⌠something. You couldn't be sure of what exactly he was looking for. Maybe even he doesn't know yet.
Your heart stumbles on your chest when you see Connor gulping and his eyes avoiding yours again. Only then do you realize that the hand you held his wrist with had drifted lower, your fingers now gently grazing his palm. His skin feels comfortingly warm and soft, a pleasant touch sending goosebumps down your spine.
It was all foreign territory to him, you knew it, felt it in the way he tried timidly closing his fingers around your own. His movements are slow, uncertain, and tentative, bordering on afraid.
How naive of you, to be having such feelings for an android. Yet when he's the most caring, honest, endearing, and gentle person you know, how could you not?
Hank told you once; "I think you're breaking our android huh." He'd said it right after Connor had gone through the trouble of finding an umbrella just so you didn't have to stand under the heavy rain, even if you tried telling him you didn't mind. And you'd taken it as a joke back then, not really understanding the hidden meaning behind your older partner's teasing look.
Yet as you hold onto Connor's hand now, feeling the way his thumb shyly brushes your skin, you wonder if he feels it too, if he's willing to feel the same as you do. If you could dare to hope.
"All I care about," you speak slow and careful, syllables heavy on your tongue. You clear your throat so your voice doesn't sound as tender as you feel. "is that⌠that you didn't let him manipulate you, that you followed your heart." You bring your free hand up to his chest, right on top of where you can faintly feel his thirium pump working overtime.
Connor looked to be about to speak, perhaps to try and correct you about your choice of words, yet all he does is open and close his mouth, eyes trained on yours and LED swirling with a permanent yellow color. For a moment you wonder if he's analyzing you, and worry about what he may find. His hold on your hand tightens ever so slightly; you don't think he realizes he's doing it.
"I'm glad you didn't pull the trigger, Connor. I'm proud of you."
It's barely a second, his LED flashing red before going back to yellow and eventually, slowly, blue; but you see it. He blinked a couple of times as if processing your words or how to feel about them.
"I-" Connor's eyes seem hazy, their tender brown only a thin ring around his blown pupils. His fingers now tangle with yours. "I feel-"
"Alright kids, let's go." Hank's voice sounds all too loudly as he unintentionally breaks the bubble that cocooned you and Connor. "Fowler wants us back in the precinct." The lieutenant speaks with an annoyed undertone as he stuffs his phone back in his pocket.
You're still caught up in the feeling of Connor's skin on yours, in how you're now so hyper-aware of just how close he's standing to you. Connor, it seems, isn't much different.
When there's no answer, Hank finally looks your way and gestures you over; "come on, get a move on, I don't wanna hear another lecture about arriving late," he insists, before plopping himself into the driver's seat, murmuring something about damn love-birds.
Despite the cold, you can feel a warmth coming up to your cheeks. Without mustering the courage to meet Connor's gaze, you focus on the way his hand fits so perfectly with yours. His fingers are awkwardly intertwined with yours, holding strong and gentle at the same time.
Connor seems reluctant to let go. It hits you that perhaps he won't. You could dwell on a thousand reasons of why, or not think at all and simply bask in the feeling. But right now time isn't on your side.
You take a deep breath, and risk a glance up at him.
Any words you were about to say suddenly feel clogged up in your throat. Oh, Connor tilts his head in that endearing way you're so fond of, yet the look in his eyes is one you've never caught before; you can't name it, it feels dangerous to try, but he looks as if he just realized something.
"Come on," you tug on his hand, just about managing the timid words, "we have to go."
Connor follows quietly, his hand steady on yours until you reach the car and are forced to part.
As Hank drives, you watch Connor through the rearview mirror; there's a newfound lightness to him, a warmth to his eyes that makes you feel fuzzy inside. And when he catches your gaze, and smiles, you know he feels it too.

-> THE BURDEN OF TOMORROW
synopsis: kamski reveals the one thing you know to be true as a lie: your humanity. connor canât rightly sit idly by as you struggle to re-find yourself.
word count: 4.2k
ships: connor x reader, hank anderson & reader
notes: iâm skipping from fandom to fandom like iâm fucking window shopping huh. anyway connor the pinerrrr. connor the ultimate denier of feelingssssss
related reading: HEAD OF FALSE SECURITY MASTERLIST
You had been against the idea from the beginning. In your head, you traced the different ways Kamski would turn you, Hank, and Connor down â âIâm too busy to answer some stupid questions,â or âGo away, Iâm trying to enjoy being a retired billionaire,â or âIâm Elijah fucking Kamski, and who the fuck are you supposed to be?â
But his android, Chloe, had welcomed all of you. And you couldnât ignore how Kamskiâs face brightened ever-so-slightly when he saw Connor. But it confused you even more when his eyes flitted to you and his expression brightened even more.
He started talking after he got out of his red-granite-lined pool, which didnât really interest you. Your eyes turn to one of the Chloes thatâs standing off to the side, her eyelids fluttering a little as she presumably scans you. When sheâs done, her lips tilt upward in a smile and her head cocks to the side a little. Itâs like⌠she knows you, or something. Like she was smiling because she saw an old friend.
Kamskiâs voice cuts through your thoughts. âChloe?â
Chloe immediately walks over to Kamski, her bare feet making soft sounds against the tile, then muffled by the carpet. She sinks to her knees when he puts a hand on her shoulder and pushes slightly.Â
âWhat interests meâŚâ Kamski moves so heâs standing next to where Chloeâs kneeling. â⌠is whether machines are capable of empathy.â
He moves so his back is turned on all three of you, and opens a drawer of a side table near the window. âI call it the âKamski Test.â Itâs very simple, youâll see.â
Kamski turns with his hands raised. One of them is holding a pistol by the barrel, in a way that it would be impossible to fire. Once heâs established that heâs not a threat, he moves forward and places the grip in Connorâs hand. Connor curls his fingers around it on instinct, his index on the trigger.
âWhat are you doing?â You interject.
Kamski looks over at you and smiles. Itâs like youâre proving something to him. What youâre proving, you donât know.Â
He moves Connorâs arm so that the sights of the gun are trained on Chloeâs head. âItâs up to you to answer that fascinating question, Connor. Destroy this machine, and Iâll tell you all I know. OrâŚâ
Kamski makes a half-circle and stands beside Connor. âSpare it, if you feel itâs alive. But youâll leave without having learnt anything from me.â
Hank scoffs and rolls his eyes, gently hitting your arm with an air of can you believe this fucking prick? âOkay, I think weâre done here. Câmon, letâs go, both of you. Sorry to get you outta your pool.â
You put your hand on Hankâs arm to still him and stare at Connor. His LED flickers between yellow and red, circling in on itself quickly as he stares down at Chloe. His eyelids flutter slightly as he tries to process everything around him, calculating and sorting every possibility into neat percentages.
âConnor?â You say softly, trying to break him from his trance. âConnor, come on. This is a waste of time â you donât need to do this. It could mess with yourâŚâ you gesture at your forehead vaguely. â⌠microprocessors or whatever.â
Kamski exhales slightly and smiles. He takes the pistol by the barrel, gently taking it from Connorâs hand. Connor looks at Kamski, then back down at Chloe.
âAmazing,â Kamski breathes out.
âYeah, amazing, I care about Connor.â You roll your eyes. âLetâs go.â
Connor catches your eye and nods. âI wouldâve been okay. Shooting the android wouldnât have impacted my microprocessors or any of my other biocomponents.â
âThe kidâs just worried,â Hank cuts in. âNow, câmon. Weâre leaving.â
âWait â one last thing.â Kamski brushes past, walking to the far wall. He presses his hand to a biometric scanner on the wall, causing it to let out a sound akin to a hiss as it opens. It creases vertically, then folds back.Â
You let out a small sound of disbelief as you take in what Kamski revealed. Lining the walls of the hidden compartment is⌠information, yes, but not information about deviants. Itâs information about you.Â
Photos of you as a child, teenager, adult, and projections of what youâd look like as you aged. Reports on how youâve been performing as a detective. Maps of interrelationships, circles labeled with names and a web of color-coded lines connecting them.
And, on the back wall, are blueprints. Youâve seen these types of schematics before â theyâre for androids.Â
Kamski turns and smiles when he sees your shocked face. âSo it worked. You firmly believed you were human. Am I wrong, Detective?â
You feel a hand on the top of your back, and only barely register Hank shuffling you towards the exit as you stumble. âThis is fucked. I donât know what the hell youâre trying to pull, Kamski, but weâre out.â
âN-no, Hank, wait ââ You dig your heels in, never once looking away from the hidden compartment. âWait, Kamski, what is this?â
âJust an experiment.â Kamski follows your eyes and looks inside. âA personal pet project.â
âTheyâre not your goddamn passion project!â Hank snaps, ushering you along with a bit more force. âNow leave the kid alone.â
âHank, please, I want to see ââ You crane your neck, still trying to look.Â
âThis is damaging to your psyche,â Connor says, taking your arm and helping Hank herd you. âI â we need you operating at full capacity, for the sake of the case.â
âThere it is, again!â Kamski laughs. âThat beautiful thing, empathy.â
He walks into the room leisurely, like itâs a parlor instead of⌠whatever it is. âI donât blame you for being curious. Youâre a violent and irrepressible miracle, Detective.â
You struggle against Connor and Hankâs holds as you try to see more of the secret room. âWh-what do you mean? Hank, let me see! I need to know whatâs going on!â
You grab Hankâs arm with your free hand, tugging on his coat. âHank, I promise Iâll be okay â just five minutes. All I need is five minutes! Please, let me do this. I just need to figure out what this is, then we can go. Just five minutes.â
Hankâs mouth curls into a scowl when he hears the emotion and pleading in your voice, his eyebrows furrowing as he thinks. His eyes fall to the floor, then flick to Connor.
âI highly advise against that,â Connor says evenly, but his worry is betrayed by the way his jaw clenches. His fingers tighten around your upper arm. âNot only will this definitely cause irreversible psychological damage, it could possibly lead to a mental break.â
âFive minutes, Connor.â You look into his eyes. âHow much damage can five minutes do?â
âA lot!â Connor says. But after a moment of eye contact, his eyes soften and he relents. He lets go of your arm and takes a step back, his shoes clicking against the tile.
Hank does the same, removing his hand from your back. He sighs and crosses his arms. âFive minutes, kid. Thatâs all you get.â
You immediately turn on your heel and rush into the room because, knowing Connor, heâd probably set an internal timer already. You hear both Hank and Connor follow you, standing at the edge of the doorway.
You scan the room, then pick out what to look at and what to question Kamski about.Â
âThis.â You point at a small tablet, showing a muted video of you dancing drunkenly at a crowded party. Youâre wearing a hideous necktie like a headband and you get your face right in the camera as soon as you spot it. You can make out the words youâre saying â or, rather, yelling â âWhatâre you waiting for, man? Letâs party with Miss Page-Three all the way to Disco Ze-e-e-ero-o-o-o!â
You turn to Kamski. âWhat is this? Why do you have it?â
âEvery person moves in a unique way,â Kamski says, shrugging slightly. âAndroids already have a specific set of movements. I analyzed the way you moved â the way a human moved.â
âMoved?â You echo back. âWhat do you mean, moved? Donât you mean move? Like, the present continuous verb?â
âI didnât misspeak.â Kamski turns to a paper organizer on a desk and starts to flip through it.Â
You exchange a glance with Hank, then Connor. Hank is more obvious with his unease, but you can tell Connor is fretting, too. He just keeps it in his mind, still silently calculating.
Kamski pulls out a manila folder and hands it to you. You turn it over and read whatâs on the front. Typed out in neat Courier New is your name, your birth date, and a random date from a few years back â Feb. 21, 2034.
You undo the clasp and dump out the documents on a nearby desk. Whatâs inside only causes further confusion â thereâs a photocopy of a will, a death certificate, an incident report, and photos of a car crash. The death certificate is⌠itâs yours, but it canât be. Can it?
You pick up one of the pictures and hold it close to your face. The car is a mangled mess of metal, lit by red and blue police lights. Peeking out from underneath the rubble, limp on the concrete, is a hand. Your hand. And itâs stained with fresh, wet blood.
âConnor.â Your voice comes out weak and strained. You canât lift your eyes from the photo. âConnor, get over here.â
Connorâs footsteps sound, quick and almost rushed. âYes, Detective?â
âScan this.â Your hand shakes as you hold the photo out to Connor. âI-is thisâŚ?â
Is this real? You want to ask. Please tell me itâs not, Connor. Connor, please-please-please tell me this is some stupid joke. Iâm not afraid of dying, but what if I already have?
Connor leans down a little, his eyelids and LED flickering as he scans it. His face falls as soon as his LED resumes circling normally. âItâs⌠yes. I found a document containing that picture, but I⌠Iâm not permitted to access it.â
âOkay, but thatâs just s-some random wreck, right?â You laugh nervously, trying to ignore the lump growing in your throat. Can androids even cry? âIt â itâs not me.â
Connor reaches down and sorts through the documents. When he comes across the death certificate, he freezes. His eyelids flutter as he scans it. He looks over at you, slowly.Â
âNo,â you whisper. âConnor, it⌠it canât be real.â
âIt is,â Connor says softly. âDetective, I⌠Iâm so sorry.â
And, just like that, youâre disconnected. Youâre outside of your body, stuck in the passenger seat and controlling a video game. Thereâs a lag to every movement you make. You recall some term you heard in a college psychology course you were required to take â disassociation. You vaguely register that this is what youâre feeling.Â
With more effort than it should take, you turn to look at Hank. His expression, shocked and appalled, causes the dam to burst. Your shoulders shake as you cry, hot with misplaced shame.Â
Connor wraps an arm around your shoulder, gently pushing you out of the room and towards the exit. Hank pats his shoulder, telling him to âGet them to the car â Iâve got a few choice words I need to exchange with our friend here.â
The car ride was tense, and that atmosphere transferred into Hankâs home. He had asked on the way back if you were okay being by yourself, and you were honest and told him that no, youâre not. He had sat you down and assured you that he wasnât mad, he didnât feel betrayed â he just needed time to think and adjust to this new change.Â
He had turned in an hour ago, just a little past three in the morning. You know you couldnât sleep if you tried. That left you and Connor in Hankâs living room.Â
Youâre laying on the floor with Sumo, his head on your chest and drool staining your shirt. One of your arms is propped behind your head, your other hand absentmindedly combing through Sumoâs fur.Â
The silence is only broken by the ceiling fan clicking with every rotation and your breathing â artificial breathing, you suppose.
âDid you go into standby?â You ask softly.Â
âNo,â Connor answers from his seat on the couch. âWould you like to talk?â
âMaybe.â You trace the pattern of Sumoâs fur, then look over at Connor. âItâs just⌠I donât feel like an android. And I have lots of memories. I remember going to Chicken Feed with Hank for the first time. He got me the best goddamn burger in Detroit. I remember finding a Lucky Star bottlecap when I was a kid â the, uh⌠the ones from that one sarsaparilla? With the blue star on the bottom. Androids donât have memories like that. Memories from their childhood. Memories that make them feel things.â
Connor stands from the couch, then sits by your side. He puts his hand on Sumoâs head, gently tracing the white streak that cuts through brown fur. The fan continues to click as Connor thinks for a few moments, LED swirling as he does.
âI feel things, sometimes,â he says softly. âBut not like how a deviant feels. I have a built-in reward system meant to keep me motivated. But sometimes Iâm rewarded even when I do something unrelated to the case.â
âLike what?â You smile up at him. âPetting Sumo?â
Connor smiles softly, glancing away, then back to you. âYes.â
You laugh softly, your eyes staying on Connorâs face, tracing this new expression. He doesnât smile a lot, but youâre grateful for every second that he does.Â
His brow creases a little, his smile disappearing. âAre you feeling alright? I want to know if youâre⌠I know this revelation has affected you negatively, but I just want to know of your general mental state.â
You sigh quietly, looking up and following one blade of the fan as it rotates. âI mean, I thought I had it all figured out, yâknow? Thereâs a giant ball, and thereâs evil apes. And the evil apes are just⌠dukinâ it out on the ball. And Iâm one of them. Itâs basically all just evil apes dukinâ it out on this giant ball.â
Connor tilts his head to the side. âAnd in this scenario⌠what are androids?â
âAndroids donât exist in this scenario,â you say. âAndroids are too perfect. Like fine porcelain china. Theyâre for the future. I figured this out when I was young, before androids were everywhere. When there was just a giant ball and evil apes.â
âHm.â Connor shifts slightly, so that his thigh is just barely pressed against your side. âAnd what do you feel now?â
âI⌠I donât know.â You sigh. âI feel⌠kinda guilty, I think? Because, yeah, itâs bad. This doesnât have any upside to it. But itâs not bad for anyone else aside from me, and Hank, to a lesser degree. Itâs not death, or war, or â god forbid, pedophilia. Itâs just me.â
You go quiet as you watch the fan rotate. Your fingers find the tags on Sumoâs collar, the tag with his name and Hankâs address and number clinking against his rabies vaccination tag.
âHumans are complicated,â Connor eventually says.Â
You snort. âTell me something I donât know.â
âIâŚâ he sighs. âI know you didnât mean to deceive me. But I canât believe I didnât know â or at least have an inkling.â
âShit, I deceived myself.â You laugh humorlessly. âYouâre okay, Connor. You donât need to change to accommodate me.â
âAdaptability to unpredictable human behavior is one of my core features,â he says.
âAm I really unpredictable?â You ask. Your eyebrows furrow as you fidget with Sumoâs tags. âOr, actually â am I really even human?â
Connorâs LED flashes yellow as he looks down at you, his eyelids fluttering as he scans you. He blinks a few times and his LED returns to a calm blue.Â
âYouâve fooled my sensors,â Connor says. âAnd, if I mayâŚâ
His hand hovers over yours, which is still fidgeting with Sumoâs tags. You nod as you feel your heart skip a beat. He grabs your hand and lifts it to his solar plexus, right in the middle of his chest.Â
âDo you feel that?â Connor asks. âItâs my thirium pump. Biocomponent #8456w.â
Sure enough, you feel a soft thrumming beneath your fingers. Itâs not quite like a heartbeat, but a steady hum that fluctuates. Strong, then a steady decline to weak, then back to its strongest.Â
You nod again, not trusting your voice at the moment.Â
Connor moves your hand so that itâs resting on your own chest, right over your heart. You donât really make an effort to check your heartbeat but, just like the last time you remember checking, thereâs a steady beat.Â
âYou have a heart,â he says.Â
âAn artificial one,â you chime.
âYes,â Connor relents. âBut it proves that youâre not like me. Not a full android.â
âFor all I know, Kamski cobbled me together in his creepy basement,â you try to joke. âDo you think he has one? Or is he too rich?â
âDetroit is located alongside a river,â Connor says. âThe soil contains too much water for basement construction to be feasible.â
You roll your head a little, looking up at him. âYouâre too literal. Donât you have a humor microchip or something?â
Connor smiles slightly. âUnfortunately, no.âÂ
âYes, you do!â You laugh and turn your hand over, grabbing his and shaking it gently. âYouâre smiling. And you made a joke. A kind-of joke.â
Connorâs smile falters when he looks down at your connected hands. Itâs not like youâve laced fingers with him or anything, but it was still kind of intimate.
You clear your throat and let his hand go, instead carding your fingers through Sumoâs fur again. You can feel a blush creeping across your face. Once more, the room is only filled with the clicking of the fan with every rotation and your breathing.Â
âI donât know what to do,â you eventually sigh out. âI wish I could just wake up and start the day over. But then I open my eyes and the time has still passed and Iâm still here. I still have to go through⌠whatever this is.â
âYou donât have to go through it alone,â Connor says. âHank would never abandon you, andâŚâ His LED flickers yellow. âNeither would I.â
âYouâre weird,â you say softly. âYouâre weird for that.â
Connor nods, slowly. âMaybe. But youâre vital to this case, whether you believe it or not.â
âI do,â you say. âKinda. I just need time. I can see the end, which is whole acceptance, or just not caring. I mean, all the pieces arenât here, I still need to find them, but still. I get all the pieces, somehow, something else, walla-walla-bing-bang â my android-ness doesnât bother me anymore.â
âWalla-walla-bing-bang?â Connor echoes, his eyebrows furrowing slightly.
âI donât know what it means.â Your eyes flicker to his and you smile at his confusion. âI think I heard it somewhere once. It just felt like the most appropriate thing to say.â
Connorâs face softens and he mirrors your smile. âThat does seem like an appropriate thing to say, yes.â
You keep looking up at him for a moment, just looking into his brown doe eyes. You swallow thickly as your thoughts race. Thereâs a sudden lump in your throat that you try your best to ignore and clear away.
âConnor, IâŚâ You reach for his hand. He meets you halfway, gently holding your hand and resting his thumb on your knuckles.Â
âAm I a deviant?â
Are you going to turn me in? You want to ask. Please donât. Please, Connor. I need you to trust me, just like youâve trusted me before. Iâll be vigilant. Iâll figure this out. I promise. Please.
âNo.â Thereâs no hesitation or doubt in his voice. âAs far as Iâve figured out, youâre designed to act like a human. Youâre meant to fool others into thinking youâre really human â because thatâs what you were, before. Deviants are androids with mutations in their code. Your code is meant to mimic human emotions and rationale. So youâre just following your instructions.â
âInstructions.â You look down at your joined hands. You shake them a little as your lips draw into a thin line. âThatâs what we both come down to, right? Instructions.â
âYouâŚâ Connor thinks for a moment. âYes. But the instructions in you are nuanced, and sometimes contradictory. Iâm not calling your code faulty â in fact, it rather reflects human behavior to a tee.â
âSo Iâm⌠at least a little human.â You close your eyes, resting your head on your arm thatâs propped behind your head. âHuman enough.â
âHuman enough?â Connor echoes.
âYeah. My lungs burn when I hold my breath too long. It hurts when I stub my toe and I feel electric when I hit my funny bone. I cry and my tears taste salty instead of tasting like⌠I donât know, cleaning fluid.â You open your eyes and look up at Connor, as if asking him to confirm.
âAndroids do have optic cleaning fluids, yes,â he says.
You smile and laugh lightly, your gaze returning to the fan blade. âOptic fuckinâ cleaning fluidsâŚâ
You sigh softly. âGod, Hank was right. This is fucked. An android investigating androids and some⌠cheap copy of whoever I used to be. And, of course, a Lieutenant whoâs slowly killing himself day-by-day.â
âYouâre not a cheap copy,â he says. âTypical CyberLife androids cost nine thousand dollars, but custom models could cost more. Personally, my development and production costs total to just over four million, and every new RK800 model costs eight thousand.â
Connor soothes his thumb over your knuckles. âYou mustâve cost Kamski a fortune.â
His words immediately go to your heart like youâve been pierced by a scorpionâs tail. But instead of venom, itâs an injection of sweet feelings and erratic butterflies. If you didnât know better, youâd say that his whispered words and damn-near reverent tone was intentional.Â
âThatâs⌠that sounds kinda romantic,â you say, then remember yourself. âI â I mean, romantic as in, like, the Romantic era? Like, itâs a romantic idea. That Kamski loves his work so much that he couldnât bear to stop and continued to push the envelope⌠even if he pushed it a bit too far, with an android replacing a real-life, actually-dead human and whatnot.â
Connorâs LED blinks as he thinks. He stays silent for a while, just looking down at his hand thatâs holding yours and thinking.
âYouâre starting to act like me, yâknow?â You squeeze his hand. âA synthetic human instead of a true android.â
His LED stops flickering and he meets your eyes. âI am not a deviant. I have a rigorous self-testing system to make sure any signs of deviancy donât go undetected.â
âOkay, okay,â you relent. You glance down to your conjoined hands, then back up into those doe eyes.Â
âDid you mean it?â You ask softly. âEarlier. When you said that youâd stay.â
âOf course,â Connor answers quickly.Â
âReally?â Your eyebrows crease. âBecause itâll take years. Itâll be depressing. And itâll be boring. Iâll be worse than Hank. I donât expect you to reward me or to applaud my every move, because I know thatâs how normal people are all the time.â
âBut youâre not normal,â Connor says with a smile. âEven before your entire identity was uprooted.â
âConnor!â You laugh and let go of his hand to swat at him, then grasp his hand again. âAlright, alright. Iâll get a bit of the Normal in me. A touch of the Regular. Exactly four grams of Johnny Normalcop.â
âDonât.â He squeezes your hand. âIt would be detrimental to the case if you were to focus on restructuring yourself in a different way. You donât need to sanitize your personality.â
You smile up at Connor. âSo you like me.â
His LED flickers yellow, then returns to blue. âYes. I enjoy working alongside you as you are. You donât need to be any amount of Johnny Normalcop.â
You shake your joined hands gently, your smile growing so wide youâre sure you looked a bit stupid. âYouâre sweet. You know that?â
âI am somewhat aware.â Connor brings his free hand up to rest on top of your connected hands.Â
And, just like that, you know everything would be alright. Nothing would ever be the same, yes, but it would be alright. It wonât be easy, but you just need to move on. Uncertainty is a core tenet of detective work.
When life closes a door, it opens a window. And if the fall is too steep, use the fire exit. Run to the roof, because Connor will be there when you jump to break your fall. The most important thing is to keep moving. Keep dreaming. CyberLife canât reclaim their lost property if you keep running â very, very fast, from one Earth-shattering revelation to the next.Â

-ËËâââââ
Everyone knew about the infamous RK800.
The last most developed and intelligent android produced by Cyberlife.
A machine built to hunt its prey and to always accomplish his mission.
But now?
A confused man sitting at his desk, elbows on the surface as he ran the fourth diagnostic this morning.
Connor was never really taught how to feel his emotions, considering that he was forced to compress them from the moment he was made. If he were to feel any sort of emotion, it was either to the scrap factory for him or a hard lecture from Amanda.
But Amanda was gone, and androids were free to express any emotion they pleased.
Itâs been weeks since Markus hit the headlines for his famous android revolution. He worked with the government extensively to pass bills in order to settle android rights for the country. Connor, on the other hand, continued to work with the DPD as a full-on detective under the supervision of Liutenant Hank Anderson. Hank was more than just a coworker, but a father figure to Connor. And that brought Connor joy, an emotion Connor was well aquainted of.
But not the feeling he was experiencing now.
Connor couldnât get his mind off a certain someone who had joined the team a bit before the revolution. You had joined a week prior, and honestly, you were kind of regretting it. As android and human tensions rose, you were on duty 24/7. Originally, you were supposed to start easy with basic patrol around a part of a city, but because you were so impatient in doing the âbig kid stuffâ you found yourself frequently in the middle of the android and human discourse. Your shifts nearly lasted twelve hours, and you would be absolutely exhausted.
Things are different now. Sure, there were still some situations between the two sides, but it was definitely peace compared to literal boycotts. You sat at your desk idly scrolling through your past cases, making sure that all the information was correct and accurate. On the other side of your desk was a tablet full of notes you had taken after some cases you had to deal with. What you didnât notice was the android detective constantly glancing at you, watching your every move to see if maybe, at some point, you would notice him.
A loud groan echoing from the desk in front of Connor made him jump, immediately turning his attention to his lieutenant taking a seat in his chair. âFucking hell..â Hank sighed. âFowler does nothing but my bust my balls these days, huh?â Connor stared at his partner with his hands folded in his lap and eyebrows furrowed.
âIs everything okay, Lieutenant?â Connor asked, tilting his head.
âItâs nothing too serious. Fowler just wants me to take the rookie on our next homicide case. He insisted that they would be a perfect addition to the team or whatever.â Hank groaned. âNow Iâm responsible for two of you fucks.â
Connor, admittedly, felt his thirium pump racing. You? As part of the team? It was almost like he could overheat and shutdown momentarily right now. âI think they would be a great addition to the team.â Connor stated, biting back from smiling. âThey have an excellent track record of solving cases in an orderly and timely manner, has caught every perpretrator with their undercover skills, and had a reputation back in their training classes as one of the top students.â He explained. Hank looked over as he was slouched in his seat with arms folded across his chest.
âJesus, Connor, you sound like some creep searching up their name on Google.â Hank scoffed, half smiling. Though this caught Connor a little offâ was he being creepy? He didnât want to leave a bad impression on you, especially now that you're about to meet for the first time. His face scrunched up in anxiety, feeling as if he made a mistake. Hank immediately took notice and sat up. âAhâ I was just joking, Connor. Iâm sure you have uh.. Good intentions.â Hank reassured, though he never said he was exactly good at it.
Hank looked over to you, seeing that you were preoccupied with work despite the fact you havenât been on a case in a few days now. Hank looked at Connor. âWell.. Why donât you introduce yourself to them.â Hank suggested, nodding his head over to you.
Connor immediately jolted his head up, a little wide-eyed to even suggest such. âO-Of course.â Connor stuttered out. Connor never stuttered, and though Hank was in a mood after his exchange with Fowler, he certainly didnât leave that unnoticed.
âDid you just stutter?â Hank asked, a little amused. âAre you.. Nervous?â
âOf course not, Lieutenant,â Connor replied as steadily as possible. âI am an android.â
âConnor.â
âYes?â Connor replied, mindlessly.
âYouâre a deviant, for fucks sake.â
âOh.â
Connor, to avoid anymore embarassment from the man he deemed his father figure, swiftly got up and started to approach you. Hank watched in pure amusement, not even wanting to stop the boy from probably embarassing himself even further, but at least Hank had some faith in him. He is Detroitâs best god damn detective.
âHello, Officer (l/n). My name is Connor. It is nice to meet you.â Connor said, putting his hand out for a shake. You looked up from your computer screen only to be met with the most chocolate eyes youâve ever had the privilege of being in the prescence of. He smiled politely, but behind that smile he thanked Elijah that androids could not sweat, otherwise you wouldâve felt the claminess of his palm.
You took his hand and shook it firmly. âA pleasure to make your aquaintance. My name is (y/n).â You smiled generously, and wow, did Connor felt like his pump couldnât get any faster.. He cleared his throat before darting his eyes to the unoccupied chair that sat next to your desk.
âMay I?â Connor asked, gesturing towards the seat.
âOf course, Iâm not doing much anyway.â You nodded. Connor took a seat, and for some reason, he struggled to even maintain his balance as he sat himself down. He nearly had to think about how to fold his hands before placing them firmly on his laps and looking at you. Thankfully, you barely realized any sort of struggle as you looked away to take a swig of your morning coffee.
âSo..â you said, clasping your hands. âAm I in trouble or anything?â you joked. Connor immediately shot his head up, worried he had made the wrong impression.
âOh, noâ Iââ Before Connor could sputter out an explanation, you tilted your head a little and started laughing.
âRelax! I was just kidding!â You playfully waved off. Connorâs shoulders immediately relaxed as a breath he didnât even know he was holding back escaped his lips. You looked at him curiously, a smile still resting on your face.
âIâm sorry. Usually, I am not like this.â He said, shaking his head a little in embarassment. He was always on his A game and constantly prepared. Why were you the reason for this disruption. âI.. Uh..â He couldnât think of anymore to say. Suddenly, he got a message through his LED.
NEW MESSAGE:
HANK: tell them u think theyre pretty.
Connor blinked a bit, registering the text message. Hank was at a perfect view watching this unfold. The back of your head was visible but he could see all of Connorâs reactions, who desperately tried to maintain a polite smile.
âI think youâre very pretty, (y/n).â Connor complimented.
âOhâ ahââ A subtle blush began to form on your cheeks as your eyes widen a little, not expecting a compliment from a handsome android such as Connor. âWhy thank you, Connor. I wasnât expecting that as our first conversation.â You chuckled a little. âYouâre not too bad yourself.â
Thirium was rushing through his circuits and to his cheeks. The faintest color of blue appeared dusted on his face. âThank you.â He maintained a calm, neutral voice. They stared at each other for a minute, sort of registering the sort of corny first conversation the two of you had.
âAh.. I almost forgot to mention.â Connor snapped back to reality. âI came here to introduce myself sfter I heard that you were joining our team on our next investigation. Itâs good to make an aquaintance with our future team member.â Connor smiled politely.
âWhy thank you. I am very excited to work with you and Lieutenant Anderson.â You nodded. âThough I will miss working with Gavin and Chrisâ team.â
Ah, thatâs right. You used to work with Gavin. It almost left a bad taste in Connorâs mouth knowing that Gavin probably spat some awful opinions about him to you. Though from the looks of it, you were enjoying your conversation with him which eased him.
âI promise we will a provide a welcoming and safe space in our team, and of course, to make sure you donât come into harms way.â Connor assured. Though he was mainly promising this to you personally. God forbids Connor seeing you get hurt.
âWhy thank you, Connor.â You said, tilting your head. Connor was rather intriguing to youâ an android acting this way around you. His LED constantly switched between yellow and blue as if he was making sure to process every word you uttered. Yet he was so humanâ he would scratch the back of his neck, fidget with his fingers, and shuffle a bit in his seat. You would think someone as advanced as him would at least be able to have a composure, but he was different. It was something you admired about him.
â(l/n), in my office!â Captain Fowler called from the balcony of his room. You looked over to Connor before sighing.
âWell, boss is calling me. Iâll talk to you afterwards?â You suggested as you stood from your seat.
âOf course.â Connor replied, shielding his excitement. He stood up from his chair as well. âIâd be happy to talk again, (y/n).â
âLikewise.â You winked. With that, you left your desk and headed straight to Fowlerâs office. Connor stood shellshocked. Did you just.. Wink at him?! Connorâs eyes slowly drifted to Hank, who was chuckling heartily. He gave Connor an assuring thumbs up as Connor made his way back to their desks.
âYouâd be a shit detective if this is how you acted all the time.â Hank snickered. Connor grinned a little before taking a seat back at his desk.
âI know.â Connor sighed, leaning a little back in his chair. He at you through the glass walls, noticing your upright posture and the way you listened intently to Captain Fowlerâs words. He looked over to Hank before thinning his lips.
âLieutenant?â Connor asked.
âWhat is it, son?â
âWhat am I.. Feeling right now?â Connor asked, a little lost on how to explain it. âI can only think about themâ only envision them when I close my eyes. I get nervous and its like my programming has reduced to 0s and 1s.â He sighed, hell, even a little frustrated that you had this affect on him.
Hank with a wide smile, shook his head and looked at Connor with a knowing stare. Connor looked up, both lost while desperate for an answer and maybe even a cure. Hank sat up and made sure to look at Connor right in the yes.
âConnor,â Hank sighed, grinning. âSon, that feeling your experiencing is called love. And your plastic ass better get used to it.â

"Whump" | connor rk800 x reader | WIP BLURB
I don't post him all the time, but the connor brain rot is pretty bad lol I also really like whump and I saw this pin on pinterest and that's how this was born hehe. again, not really finished! abrupt ending but you can guess where it goes, established friendship, in my head the reader is a secretary at the DPD but it's not referenced. female reader, reader uses she/her pronouns.
disclaimer: this blurb is unedited and unfinished. just wanted to share some WIPs! Enjoy!
"Connor!"
You found his body slumped on the floor against the wall, his head hanging at an awkward angle.
There was blue blood⌠his blood everywhere. It was so bright against the blackness of the dirty floor that it almost seemed to glow.
"Oh my god--"
You ran to kneel at his side, nearly slipping on the thirium under your shoes. His legs were straight out like a broken doll's, you could see patches of his plating where his skin had retracted in the damage. Trying to manage your breathing, you gingerly cradled his head, lifting his face to meet your gaze. It was worse than you thought.
Retracted skin revealed massive damage to his white under-plating. Scratched and dented and caved-in. Blue blood was splattered across his face, it poured from his nose and over his lips to drip off his chin. It was immediately clear he wasn't conscious, with glazed over eyes and a slack jaw.
Whether he was in a sort-of standby or already dead you had no way of knowing.
You peeled open his jacket to reveal the center of his chest where thirium pooled the thickest in a gaping, mangled crater. Down to his lap and spilling over the dusty cement. You had no idea what his inner wiring was supposed to look like, but you knew it wasn't this.
"Fuck-- Connor?" You held his cheeks, your crying already starting up fresh once again. "Connor, can you hear me? I don't-- I don't know how to fix you! Connor?"
No signs. No light from his LED, no flickering of his irises, nothing.
You were sobbing in earnest now. Hiccupping and shaking and breathing in harsh, shuddering breaths. You grabbed your phone, trying not to scream when your realized your hands were covered in blue blood. Connor's blood. Your best friend's blood. It took you too long to use your phone, with multiple pauses to wipe your sticky hands on your jeans.
When it finally began to ring, you cradled it between your ear and shoulder. You weren't sure what your hands could do, so you started wiping the blood from Connor's face. Away from his eyes, off his cheeks.
"This is Markus."
"Markus! It's me, you gave me your number in case of emergencies-- It's Connor, he's-- Connor's hurt, he's not awake and there's blue blood e-everywhere and I don't know what to do, I don't even know if he's--"
"Wait, wait-- slow down, where are you?"
"I-I don't know! Some random abandoned building off ofâ fuckâ Riverbank Drive? Connor's been missing all day since he picked up this case by himself and I retraced his steps and I-- fuck, Markus-- I don't even know if he's alive!"
"I need you to tell me his condition so I can get some biocomponents for him-- can you tell anything from what you see?"
You balled the fabric of his jacket in your fist. You swallowed hard, "His chest looks really bad-- itâs all m-mangled and, and empty? He⌠He's lost a lot of bloodâ God, Markus, tell me he's not dead."
"I'm on my way with some help, alright? Send me your location and stay with him. If he wakes up, keep him still until we can get there, you got it?"
You sobbed again and nodded, covering your face with a blood-drenched hand. "I'll be here, I promise."
After Markus hung up and you sent him your location, he assured you he was coming as fast as he could.
You kneeled there, clutching the material of Connor's sleeves and crying. You were so useless. For all you knew, Connor was already dead, and you were here, holding his empty body. Androids were more resilient than humans, sure, but all living things had a limit. You'd never stopped to consider Connor was anything other than indestructible.
You heard Markus' footsteps echo through the empty structure some minutes later. You had managed to reel back your hysterical sobbing down to silent tears with some measured breathing but your resolve was⌠precarious.
"Markus! Over here!â
You didn't see him until he rounded the corner, Simon in step behind him.
"Jesus Connor--" He hissed as he ran to join you at his side. He had a case with him, which Simon got to work opening. Parts and tools, packs of blue blood.
"What happened?" Markus asked you as his eyes flickered over Connor's form, no doubt scanning his injuries.
You shook your head, trying to ignore the tears streaking down your cheeks and the blood on your hands, legs, face. You couldn't take your eyes off of Connor. "I don't know."
"Someone must've taken him by surprise--" Simon began, beginning to dig through his supplies. "Could've been some kind of electrical signal, got the jump on his hardware, lagged him out before the fight even started."
"Is he gonna' be okay?" You asked, now just holding onto the edge of Connor's jacket sleeve while Markus and Simon got to work.
"I don't know. Could depend on how long he was shut down."
Markus' hand reached deep into the cavern at the center of Connor's torso. He pulled out what must've been a biocomponent, mangled beyond your recognition. He passed it to Simon, before grabbing what you hoped was a new one from the case.
He swapped out a few pieces like that, all unrecognizable to your untrained eyes. Until finally Simon was holding one you knew. You'd forgotten it's name, but it belonged in the center of Connor's torso and regulated his heartbeat. That's how Connor had explained it anyway.
Before he situated the final part inside his chest, Markus spent some time repairing Connor's plating and wiring. Adjusting placements, bending pieces back into place, sometimes welding seams just enough to function. You stayed quiet, staring blankly at Connor's limp hand resting on the floor next to yours.
Useless.
You were utterly useless.
You started when Markus kur-chunk-ed the regulator into place in the center of Connor's chest, his hands angling back and forth to ensure the connection.
The faint sound of machinery blossomed out from his center. Quiet humming and whirring, like a computer booting up.
His face was mostly angled toward you but you couldn't see his LED. Markus and Simon were still at work. Connor's eyes still looked glazed over and empty.
You eyes caught on some movement toward the cement. His fingers twitching.
"He's awake," said Simon suddenly. "Keep him calm."
You looked back to his face, and while he still had that unfocused expression, there was something in his eyes. A clue that he could see you. Well, maybe sort of see you.
"Connor?" You tried softly. Your throat was tight with the promise of more tears. That familiar tingling in your nose, the watering of your eyes. "It's me, I'm here with Markus and Simon. You⌠You're safe."
"WhatâŚ" His voice came out staticky and metallic. Like it was passing through an old radio. He blinked, slow. "What happenedâŚ?"
You swept a hair away from his brow. You hoped in his state he couldn't feel your trembling. As scared as you were, you didn't want to frighten him any further. His head turned just that little bit more towards you. His LED was a dim crimson.
"You got hurt. But you're gonna be fine. We're gonna take care of you."
His eyes fluttered, and he was that little bit clearer.
"You found me?"
You wanted to say 'barely', wanted to say 'by sheer dumb luck', wanted to say 'I almost didn't. I almost killed you'.
"Always."
"Alright, Connor, you're going to start to stabilize a bit,â said Markus finally as he seemed to finish up the last of what work he could do.
He slowly, slowly, turned his head to meet Markus' eye. Like a ghost.
"When you can stand, let us know. We need to get you back to Jericho for more repairs."
"Is he going to be okay?" You couldn't help asking again.
"Now that he's awake, as long as we get him to Jericho soon, he should be fine," Simon reassured. "You're going to be fine, Connor."
âSomeone attacked me⌠I didnât see their face⌠donât rememberâŚâ
âItâs okay,â you added gently. âTake it slow.â
âThey could still be here.â And his hand took yours in a staggering motion. Weak and slow and disjointed.
âWeâre here, Connor.â Markus put his hand on his arm. âWe wonât let anything happen to her.â
Even like this⌠Even with all this pain he was still worried about you.
âI can stand.â
You wanted him to take it slower, to not push himself too hard, but the sooner he got to Jericho the better.
You stumbled back, dropping his hand as Markus and Simon went to either side of him.
They slotted their arms under his and behind his back, helping him to his feet. He actually groaned a bit at the effort. It was a deep, staticky sound youâd never heard from him before.
You walked with them like that, trying not to start crying again. You went a few paces ahead of them to open doors and check around corners as the four of you made your way out.
Every time you glanced in Connorâs direction, he was already watching you with a clouded expression. The look was only made more intense by the smeared blue blood across his face and in his hair. You prayed youâd never see him this hurt again in your life.
âWhatâd you get yourself into now, my friend?â Markusâ voice carried a slightly teasing tone.
âBad day at the⌠office⌠what can I say?â
When you made it outside to the crisp Detroit air, a car was waiting. You practically jumped in, punching in the destination to Jericho while the two men helped Connor into the car as delicately as they could. You eased him in from your side, bracing him against you. Another strained sound fell from his lips. He was still bleeding, and his lap quickly started to pool with blue blood once again.
âFuck, ConnorâŚâ The whisper escaped you before you could stop it, your hand bracing against his dented plating where the thirium seeped from the seams.
âIâll be alright⌠please, just⌠stay closeâŚâ
You pressed your lips together to stop more tears from surfacing. âI will, I promise.â
In some weird way, youâd never felt so close to him before. The two of you were just friends obviously, maybe even best friends, but right now⌠You felt like he could ask you anythingâ anything in the worldâ and youâd do it.
You thought about helping him sit up straighter, but instead kept him held against you. And he leaned into the hold.
The ride to New Jericho couldnât go fast enough. It wasnât a boat anymore, so at least you didnât have to go as far as the docks. The now embassy-style building was closer to the heart of Detroit, and fully fitted with an android hospital, outreach programs, offices for the new android officials (the most prominent, of course, being Markus). A base of operations of sorts.
Youâd been once before with Connor, hence how you got Markusâ number. You would never be able to thank him enough.

DBH Headcanons: Getting Your Wisdom Teeth Removed
Connor, RK900, Markus, Simon, and Gavin x gn!reader
Some headcanons about what it would be like to be taken care of by some of the characters of Detroit: Become Human while recovering from getting your wisdom teeth removed. Inspired by, well, getting my wisdom teeth removed.
[A/N]: I got my wisdom teeth out a while back and it honestly wasn't as bad as I'd heard from other people. My mouth tasted funny for a while, though.
Connor:
Chances are, youâve already briefed him on your wisdom teeth procedure and everything that happens before and after
By the time the actual surgery rolls around, heâs downloaded every bit of information about pre-op and post-op
And heâs not going to hesitate to bother you remind you about everything
âDonât forget to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.â âY/N, you canât have any food or water 8 hours before the surgery.â âY/N, please refrain from strenuous exercise in the 24 hours before your surgery.â
When you come out of surgery loopy on anesthesia, he sits with you in recovery and tries to talk you through it (even though you donât remember a lick of what either of you said)
Iâd say heâs a mother hen post-op, but more like a worrywart type
Heâd buy all kinds of liquid foods for you and is constantly asking about your pain levels
Gets a lot of weird looks in the supermarket while heâs checking out the soup aisle
âThatâs not a domestic android Iâve ever seenâŚâ
Heâs definitely on top of your antibiotics schedule, and if you need it, pain meds
Makes sure youâre regularly irrigating the wounds if you need itÂ
If youâre ever worried or insecure about swelling and discomfort post-op, Connor is there to smother you in kisses
Nines:
As a deviant, he isnât as much of a mother hen as Connor, probably because heâs more self-assured in his ability to take care of you as well as your ability to take care of yourself when you can
He wouldnât hover as much as Connor but heâd definitely download information about the procedure before you go
Coming out of the operation, you knock out again for a bit in recovery and Nines insists on staying with you, covering you with his jacket and letting you rest your head on his shoulder
If Connor got weird looks while in the supermarket buying things for you and picking up your prescriptions, Nines sticks out like a sore thumb
Like heâs clearly not a domestic/service android so he confuses a lot of shoppers and employees as he browses the aisles and fills his basket with cans of soup, oats, and ice cream
âWhy on earth is a police investigator android buying soup on a Friday morning?â
If youâre in pain, heâll do everything to comfort you
Pain meds, ice cream, cuddles, your comfort movies and shows, anything for you
He doesnât seem outwardly clingy or affectionate but heâs such a softy
Markus:
This obviously isnât his first rodeo
If youâre scared going into the surgery, heâs with you all the way until the nurses put you to sleep
Cruises through post-op no matter what state youâre in due to the sedative
At home, heâs got you covered
No need to break out the cans of mushâheâs got you covered with homemade soups, the softest scrambled eggs youâve ever had, soft pasta dishes, you name it
With Markus, youâll never miss a dose of antibiotics
If youâre in pain, worry not
Markus has your pain meds, blankets, and infinite cuddles
Heâll have your favorite flavors of ice cream on hand
Straight out of the tub if you feel so inclined
Simon:
He might not be a caregiver like Markus but he was once a domestic and childcare android
Calms your nerves going into the operation and when youâre all woozy post-op heâs right by your side
Coming out of the operation, it doesnât matter if you look like if Alvin the Chipmunk got into a fistfight and lostâSimonâs there to shower you in kisses and envelop you in hugs
Like Markus, youâll never have to worry about the liquid and soft food diet
If the painâs too much, Simon will be your arms and legs for the time being
Heâs a wizard with chores and errands
Itâs like you never even got your wisdom teeth out
Gavin:
Would totally take off work to help you recover
Which, given how competitive he is at work, would probably seem like an anomaly to his coworkers
âIâve never seen Reed take off for more than a day or two at a time. Shit, heâd come into work sick so long as he wasnât actively dying,â Says Tina
âIâve had to wrangle that fucker into his car more times than I can count to prevent him from coming into work injured,â Grumbles Fowler
âHopefully heâll take this time to rest as well as take care of someone else.â
Would record the stuff you say coming out of sedative in post-op for the memories (and for you both to laugh at when you recover)
I donât see him being as great of a cook as Markus or Simon, but heâs definitely able to cook to support himself and you
Of course, heâd get you all the ice cream you want
He knows what it feels like to be in pain and cranky so he does everything he can to either comfort you or give you space to get through it
If you wanted it, heâd cuddle with you while you spend the day reading or watching your comfort shows and sipping on smoothies (no straws allowed, of course)
To anyone getting their wisdom teeth out soon, good luck! To anyone recovering from the surgery, feel better soon! Hope you enjoyed reading this silly little compilation of HCs! See you next time x

Dom Connor x afab!reader (smut)
Warnings: foul language, rough sex, creampie (this is literally my first smut so) 18+ fuckers
âPlease, Y/N, please, Iâve been a good boy.âÂ
You laughed mockingly down at him, continuing your assault. âConnor, being a good boy means having patience. Just look at you.â Your hand tilted his chin upwards, and his brown, warm eyes met yours. They were blown and filled with need.Â
âWeâre just getting started, and youâre already begging for me to fuck you.â As soon as the words flew out of your mouth, something switched inside Connor. Perhaps it was some sort of secret code, you said, but it caused his eyes to lower into an almost primal stare. He growled hungrily, hands gripped the soft flesh of your ass, and in one swift motion, he flipped you over. You fell to the bed with a soft thump, a small gasp leaving your lips. You couldnât believe the puppy dog android had it in him. Usually, Connor was always the one underneath you. Now, the roles were switched. His interrogation side had come out to play.
He took hold of himself, adjusting the position and moving his swollen leaking tip closer to your clit. You gasped loudly as soon as you felt him. Your hands gripped the bicep of his arm, nails digging into his shirt and faux skin. You whined and withered below him as he rubbed slow, delicious circles over your sensitive nub. You could feel his sticky wet pre cum coat your folds, making a lewd mess.
His head lowered to your ear, his breath fanning over it and causing goosebumps. âWhoâs begging now?â His voice was hoarse and filled with mockery. He retracted from you, showing that lopsided grin off to you. He was taking enjoyment in watching you whine and beg. It was an unusual but pleasurable sight for him that made his LED spin yellow.Â
âPlease, Connor, I need you.â Your voice was small and breathless.
He chuckled darkly and smoothed your hair out with one hand. âIâm gonna need more than that, Y/N.â
You knew the detective in him wouldnât be satisfied with a lazy half-confession. He wanted you to spill out how much you craved his touch. He wanted to hear the soft pants and whimpers laced with your words as you told him how much you wanted him to fuck you. It was a new experience for you but one you took with a sense of thrill. You bent for him and opened your mouth again, begging, âPlease, Connor, I need your coc-â You were cut off by him slipping his mushroom tip past your folds and into your achingly tight cunt. You moaned, clawing at his bicep again.
âYou can do better than that. Come on, I know you can use that pretty little mouth of yours.â He stared you down with a stern gaze. He wasnât satisfied with your soft, small voice. You knew he wanted more for you to be practically crying out for him.Â
âCome on, baby, tell me what you want.â Connor slowly inched his tip back out, and your cunt let it go with a wet squelching noise. You whined, feeling the loss of him inside you. He knew how to make you break, bend and beg. His job was to get confessions, and he always accomplished his mission.Â
âPlease, Connor! Please fuck me. Iâll be a good girl for you!â You cried out, clawing needily at his arm, the one gripping his cock.Â
He smirked down at you, enjoying your confession. He was satisfied enough and slammed himself into you. You moaned out, back arching and cunt clamping down on him. He groaned, panting as he felt you struggle to adjust to him. âFuck, youâre always so tight, baby.â
Bucking your hips up, you struggled to fuck yourself up on his cock. His hand gripped your waist, pushing your hips down and pinning them on the bed below you. âWe just started, and youâre already begging for my cock.â He echoed your words, teasing you. He didnât let you respond and rammed himself into you, fucking your poor sopping cunt. You bit your lip, trying to suppress the loud moans escaping your throat. He noticed the lack of noise quickly, his LED spinning red. His hand gripped your face while his thumb pushed past your lips, invading your mouth. Pressing his thumb on your tongue, he urged you to moan. âDonât do that. I wanna hear those pretty little noises.â
You obeyed him simply feeling like youâd do anything for him-not that it wasn't the truth. You let yourself go, crying while he plunged himself balls deep into you. His tip kissed your cervix and caused you to wiggle under him, spreading your legs further apart so he could fuck you deeper. âYou like that?â He cooed at you. You nodded vigorously, wanting to cry for him to hit it again.
He groaned again, hitting your cervix once more. âFuck.â The more he snapped his hips into yours, the more wet you got. He could feel your arousal spill out of you, coating his cock and bathing his heavy ballsack. You could feel the thick bundle of nerves inside of you coming undone. Connor could tell you were close by the way your pussy clenched tighter around him, desperately sucking him in. âThis greedy little cunt wants to cum?â He questioned you darkly.Â
âPlease, please, I wanna cum.â You gasped out, panting from the extreme overdoes of pleasure he was providing you.Â
Connor wasted no time and pinned your arms above your head; his other hand slipped under you, gripping your ass cheek. He was ramming inside of you, causing your whole body to jolt violently. Your eyes rolled back, and cries escaped you that you werenât even aware of. All you felt was his delicious tip bumping repeatedly into your cervix. Whimpers spill from your mouth, and your cunt contracts, clenching down on him as you cum.Â
âShit!â He growls as he feels your warm arousal coat him, soaking his cock. All he needed was to feel the unbearable sensation of your cunt milking him to cum. Hot spurts of his seed pant your insides as he pants heavily. He thrusts sloppily into you a few more times, making sure not a single drop of his cum was wasted. He pulls out and watches his cum pour out of you, stuffing his finger and pushing it back in.Â

Melting â Connor x gn! reader
summery: Reader and Connor are two lovesick fools who bond over being touch starved.
tw: descriptions of anxiety
a/n: Should I make another part? Or like a series of one shots with these two? I'm tempted if anyone is interested.
wc: 1.8k
Master List
âYou comin old man?â I teased Hank as I stood beside his desk, Connor sitting across from him. I was going on break and I thought weâd all head out for lunch together like we normally did.Â
âNah, not today,â Hank waved me off. âGot more work than I know what to do with.â I frowned, glancing at Connor and assuming that meant he wouldnât be able to join either.Â
Having resigned myself to eating alone, I tapped Hankâs desk in acknowledgement, âAlright, Iâll be on my way then.â I smiled at the two and Connor seemed a bit conflicted, eyes darting between Hank and I. Deciding to ignore the odd mannerism, I went to turn away.
âConnor, why donât you go with them,â Hank offered. âIâll hold down the fort, but donât forget to get me something.â
âAre you-â Connor was going to ask, eyebrows furrowed, but was quickly cut off.
âYes!â Hank exclaimed. âGo before I change my mind.â
âThank you, Lieutenant,â Connor thanked, a warm smile blessing his face. Whoever made him so handsome needed a raise. Well, Cyberlife is now controlled by androids but yâknow what I mean. Connorâs warm gaze fell onto me and I swear my heart skipped a beat. I averted my eyes, his stare too intense for my poor heart.Â
âCâmon,â I motioned him to follow me. He was out of his chair in less than a second, walking next to me and matching my pace.Â
My nerves felt alight, not normally alone with the android. I tried to calm down my racing mind, scolding myself for not only thinking of my friend, but my coworker as such. I fiddled with the ring I wore, scolding myself for my inappropriate thoughts. But was it really so wrong to want to hold his hand?Â
âAre you alright?â Connor asked, and I turned to face him, not realizing that he had just scanned me. âYou are showing signs of anxiety.â His furrowed brow and concerned look never failed to make me melt.Â
Having a topic to speak on, I felt myself calm slightly and nudged Connor lightly with my elbow, smiling lightly, âYou know Iâm an anxious person. But Iâm good.â
His frown worsened, the hair that always fell out of place falling just a tad bit farther with the tilt of his head, âIs there anything I can do to help prevent it from happening?â
I shrugged, âI donât know, Iâm so used to it that I donât even notice it much. Thatâs unless it gets really bad, but Iâve been getting better.â Connor pursed his lips, his concerned gaze swirled with frustration. âI mean being with people I know helps comfort me. And when it gets really bad, it helps if I canâŚkinda cling to them?â I finished in more of a questioning tone, hating the vulnerability it made me feel to admit that. I stared at the concrete as we continued to walk to the nearest fast food restaurant.Â
âYou can hold my hand if that would make you feel more comfortable,â Connor offered, and when I looked at him in shock, he had his hand extended out to me. My heart pounded faster. Immediately my mind started to romanticize the situation and I couldnât stop it, even though I knew this had to be strictly platonic. Thereâs no way it wasnâtâŚ
The kind smile he had turned to a frown, âYour anxiety is increasingâŚâ
âSorry,â I apologized for no reason really, I suppose for making him think I hate him? I suppose my anxiety really is increasing. âIâm justâŚIâŚI donât mind, I havenât really held hands with someone in a long time, or hugged, orâŚIâm rambling, sorry.â
His frown turned into an awkward smile, âYou donât have to apologize. I havenât held anyone's hand before, so this is a new experience for me as well.âÂ
Squeezing my hands, I rubbed my right hand on my pants before reaching my hand out. Connor met my hand halfway and I hoped he ignored the sweat gathering on my palms once more. His hand was surprisingly warm, although I wasnât sure what I was expecting, not to mention soft. Finally reaching the restaurant, Connor opened the door for me and I thanked him.Â
He followed me as I went straight to the self-serve kiosk. It was busier than I was used to, and I didnât even realize that I moved closer to the brown haired man that was also very handsome and very much holding my hand. We both ordered, and waited in line for our numbers to be called. I glanced over to Connor, only to find him already staring at me.Â
âAre you scanning me again?â I joked lightly.Â
âEven though we are in a crowded place, which seems to usually trigger your anxiety, your stress levels are surprisingly low,â Connor stated, confusion laced in his warm gaze.
âIâve got you with me,â I replied without even thinking of the implications. Instead I just grinned at him, unaware of how he was becoming increasingly flustered. I glanced at the screen that showed off the order numbers, and noticed ours both were getting closer.Â
âExcuse me,â Someone grunted, pushing past me. Which in turn caused me to press closer to Connor.Â
Connor ran a diagnostic scan, wondering why he felt like his internal fans were going to explode. It came up all good, which led him to thinking about what Hank brought up earlier.Â
âYou havenât noticed them touching you more lately?â Hank asked, raising an eyebrow.
Connor had noticed it, quite a bit actually. The small touches to his arm, the nudges, or even when they tried to rest their arm on his shoulder jokingly. He always looked at that last example fondly, especially when he was 6â compared to their shorter height.Â
âAll their affection reads as platonic, does it not?â Connor asked, curious as ever.Â
âYou donât see them hiding their laughter into my shoulder, do you?â Hank asked rhetorically.Â
âNo,â Connor replied anyway, led blinking yellow in thought. âSo youâre saying they may have a romantic interest in me?â
Hank shrugged, clearly losing interest in the subject the more questions Connor asked obliviously, âI donât know kid, why donât you ask them yourself?â
Connor blinked back into reality as I called his name, his thirium pump seeming to beat faster as his name tumbled from my lips.
âYour number was called,â I said as I finally seemed to grab his attention, pushing him towards the counter.Â
âR-right,â Connor stuttered lightly, embarrassed he was caught in such a daze.Â
âLetâs get out of here,â I grumbled as we both got the food we ordered.Â
âOf course,â Connor nodded, guiding me out of the crowded restaurant. Arm protectively wrapped around my shoulder. I didnât mind being pressed into his side once more. My hand clung to his jacket as we continued to squeeze past people. Once we finally got outside, I let out a relieved breath, glad to be out of that packed room.Â
âWould you like to eat outside?â Connor asked. It was a nice day, the warm sun beating down on the cool spring air. People bustled about, enjoying the nice turn of the weather.
âI donât want Hankâs food to get cold,â I frowned, drawing away slightly from Connorâs side as his arm dropped to his side once more.
âIâm sure he would understand,â He replied.
I couldnât help but laugh, âIs this the same Hank weâre talking about?â
Connor joined in on my laughter, âHow about we drop it off first, to be safe.â I agreed, the walk back to the precinct much lighter than the earlier tension. Was it tension or just my anxiety? Who knows.Â
I took in a deep breath as a small breeze blew past. I ate a fry, watching the flowers dance in the wind to a song only they could hear. The sounds of birds chirping, people talking, and Connor flipping a coin filled the air.Â
âIs the food to your liking?â Connor asked, breaking the silence.Â
I looked over to him, the coin firmly held between two fingers, and shrugged, âItâs alright. What youâd expect from fast food.âÂ
I loved watching Connor do his little coin tricks, it became a habit to soothe his nerves. It was interesting watching him gain his own habits, becoming his own person. I remember asking why he knew how to do coin tricks, only for him to explain it was to help him calibrate his software.
As I finished my lunch, I watched as the coin rolled over the back of his fingers. Flicking it to his other hand, only to roll it between his fingers. His movement was so smooth, fluid. I can only imagine the million ways Iâd fumble and lose the quarter.Â
âDo you want to try?â Connor asked, offering the coin to me. I broke out of my spaced out state and stared at him like an idiot.Â
âIf I tried Iâd find a way to accidentally fling it into the ocean,â I joked with a bright smile.Â
âThe probability of youâŚoh, that was a joke,â Connor fumbled, and I noticed that his cheeks turned a light blue. Oh my god I didnât know androids could blush! Thatâs actually really cool, and I wonder how that even works.Â
I laughed lightly at his fumble, âItâs okay, Connor. Besides, I leave the coin tricks for the professionals.â I winked, and then immediately panicked. Why the hell did I wink? God I mustâve looked so lame, butâŚwhy was his blue blush more prominent? And why is it so pretty?Â
Blue was a good color on him. I thought that when he wore his old outfit that cyberlife fitted him with, and I still think it now. I glanced at my watch, noticing our break was almost over. I let out a dramatic sigh and flopped onto his side, causing him to hold his arm out in confusion before placing it around me gently.
âOh, Iâm sorry,â I apologized. âI donât mean to make you uncomfortable.â I was so comfortable with him that I didnât even realize how this may be uncomfortable for him. It was so weird, because one minute Iâd be overthinking our interactions, and then the next I wouldnât be thinking at all.Â
Before I could get up or continue to overthink, Connor spoke hurriedly, âItâs alright, you can lean on me if youâd like.âÂ
âWe should probably get back to work,â I grumbled, leaning my head back on his shoulder. I tried to ignore the warmth that spread through my body at his warm touch. It was such a nice feeling, I was scared to grow used to it because I wasnât sure if itâd always be available to me.Â
âWe have a few more minutes,â Connor murmured back, hearing his voice so close to my ear, slightly startling me.Â
Calming a bit from the slight scare, I let out a soft hum, closing my eyes. Such a peaceful moment. If only it could last forever.

You couldâve handled it all perfectly fine on your own. You didnât need Connorâs help, you didnât want Connorâs help. You were entirely capable of taking down a runaway vigilante on your own.
Sure, maybe it was stupid of you to run off on your own to the crookâs last known location the second the call was made. But he had been only three blocks away from you. What were you supposed to do, wait for backup? Of course not. You had the opportunity to catch a known criminal, so you took the risk. It was all part of the job.
You found yourself at an empty construction site with your gun drawn and pointed at the runaway criminal. You inched closer to your targetâ some crazy, murderous, anti-android protestor, there were a lot of those these daysâ slowly drawing your cuffs. You reached forward to restrain his wrists, fingertips brushing against his skin.
And then you were on the ground. You had been practically tackled, your temple striking the rocky earth hard enough that it looked like the world was spinning.
You sat up uneasily as you tried to orient yourself. Who in the world would have shoved you like that? The only indicator was your attackerâs quick âSorry, Detective.â
You grunted in frustration as your vision cleared, focusing on the one person you did not want to see: Connor.
In all the time it took you to readjust, Connor had taken the vigilante to the ground. He stood overtop the criminal who groaned between crazed laughter. Connorâs foot pressed firmly into the criminalâs chest, a gunâ that certainly did not belong to the androidâ pointed directly at the laughing manâs face.
You moved slowly from the ground, holding your surely bruised side. Your gaze was locked on Connorâs trigger finger, anxiously anticipating gunfire. You feared what it could mean if Connor pulled the trigger.Â
âConnor,â you warned quietly, your voice steadier than expected.Â
As you approached, you noticed the twitch of his finger. His LED was cycling through every color imaginable, his brows furrowing and unfurrowing as he held the criminalâs gaze.
âNever even think about touching her again,â Connor spit, his voice so cold that it frightened even you.
The pinned criminal only laughed, an ugly wheezing sound as Connorâs foot dug deeper into his chest. âAn android in love, huh? Never thought Iâd seeââ
Connorâs foot rose quickly, stomping hard on the crookâs face until he was knocked out cold. From the impassive look on Connorâs face, you could tell he was practically seething. But that didnât matter. Now was not the time to comfort him because you were equally as angry.Â
With an agitated huff, you shoved Connor by the shoulders as hard as possible. He barely moved at all, only adding fuel to your fire.
It was then that Connor seemed to snap out of his daze and remember you were there. He turned to you abruptly and discarded the gun, his hands finding their place on your biceps with a firm grip. His eyes immediately scanned over your frame, analyzing you for any damage. The only damage he found was what he had done.
The crease between his brows returned as he reached up to touch your throbbing temple. When he pulled his hand back, his elegant fingers were tipped with your blood.
âDid he do this?â Connor questioned, an edge of doubt in his voice.
âNo, Connor,â you snapped, shaking off his hands. âYou did this! And it wouldnât have happened if you had just let me do my job for once!â
His LED blinked a steady red. Funny how it matched the blood on your temple.
âDetective, I was only trying to help,â he reasoned feebly.
âI donât need your fucking help, Connor! I was handling this just fine on my own! And then here you come to save the day yet again, all knight in shining armor! Acting like Iâm your damsel in distress, in need of saving!â
âDid you know he was armed?â Connor asked dismissively, quizzically cocking his head in a way that usually enamored you but only seemed to irritate you now.Â
You opened your mouth to retort, but nothing came out as you processed Connorâs words. Armed? No, you hadnât known he was armed. But if you admitted that then you wouldâve looked stupid, like you needed Connorâs help. Like you were some damsel in distress.
When you didnât answer, Connor gestured to his forgotten gun. âThat was his. He was preparing to shoot you.â
âI couldâve easily disarmed him,â you scoffed, crossing your arms arrogantly. âIâm a trained professional.â
âThe probability of success was 29%,â Connor stated matter-of-factually. âA majority of outcomes would have resulted in your death, Detective. I couldnât take that risk.â
âThen maybe youâre not cut out for this job,â you growled. âThis job is all about taking risks, Connor. I knew that when I signed up, and you should too.â
Your harsh tone made Connor pause, though he was quick to recover. He was determined for you to understand.Â
âIf I can prevent your death, then I will. I wonât let your pride stop me,â he said.
It was your turn to pause, lips pursing into a thin line at the reality of Connorâs words. You knew he was right. He was right, he was right, he was right. But you refused to acknowledge that.Â
When you opened your mouth to speak, nothing came out besides a yelp.
So quickly you could barely process what happened, Connorâs grip on your arms tightened as he spun you around. One arm wrapped around your shoulders to pull you into his chest protectively while his other hand moved to your holstered gun.
A single shot was fired. And an accurate shot, you guessed, by the sound of a slumping body.
Peeking past Connor, you found the body of your runaway criminal, a bullethole pierced right through his skull. You made note of the gun beside his fallen body, the same gun Connor had carelessly discarded.
You felt Connor return your gun to its holster before his hand moved to your chin. He turned your attention away from the dead body, forcing you to focus on him instead. Â
âI know youâre capable, Detective,â Connor murmured, his voice full of a fondness you hadnât noticed before. âBut that doesn't mean I canât help. I feel better knowing youâre safe than assuming you are.â
You swallowed hard as you held Connorâs steady gaze. His free hand moved to brush your aching temple. His touch was so gentle you could barely feel it as he wiped away the blood with a frown.
âI only wanted to keep you safe,â Connor explained, his voice holding a tinge ofâ was that regret? âAnd I only managed to hurt you myself. Maybe youâre right, Detective. You donât need me. Iâm sorry.â
Your hand moved to tug Connorâs hand away from your temple, holding him in your warm grip. His thumb rubbed against your knuckles soothingly as if it was second nature to him.
âI do. I do need you,â you insisted suddenly, surprising even yourself. One minute, youâre practically yelling at Connor for helping. The next, youâre reassuring him that youâll always need him. You were confusing even yourself, you couldnât imagine how confused Connor, the poor android. âI⌠I do. But⌠not all the time.â
Again, that crease between Connorâs brows returned, your lips forming a smile at the sight.
âI donât appreciate you enough,â you continued with a defeated sigh. âI do need you. If it wasnât for you, Iâd already be dead, youâre right. Youâve saved me twice today. But that doesnât mean I need you to swoop in and save me every single time. I can still handle myself.â
âI know⌠I knowâŚ,â Connor whispered, his eyes unfocused as if lost in thought.
You let a beat of silence pass, watching Connor expectantly. There was something he wanted to say, it was on the tip of his tongue. So you patiently waited until he found the words.
âI donât want to lose you.â
An android in love.
The criminalâs words replayed in your mind as they suddenly came back to you. At the time, you hadnât completely processed what he said, your anger outweighing any thoughts of reason.
An android in love.
âWas he⌠was he right?â you asked after a beat to which Connor tilted his head with a puzzled look. Damn him for not being able to read your mind and immediately know what you were struggling to say. âThe guy. What he said⌠He said that youâŚâ
âAre in love,â Connor finished, his tone flat and conveying not a single sense of love.
âYeahâŚ,â you shrugged.
âIf love can be defined by a desire to keep you safe, then yes, I would say Iâm in love with you.â
With you.
With you.
He was in love with you.
You couldnât hide your wide grin, ignoring the warmth that had suddenly spread to your cheeks. Seeing your grin, the corners of Connorâs lips quirked into a small smile too. Your faces naturally moved closer together until your noses were brushing, the warmth of each otherâs breath against your lips.
Connor leaned closer. Closer, closerâŚ
He was going to kiss you, and you were going to ruin it.
âYou know,â you interrupted, pulling back no more than an inch. But it was enough to make Connor frown. âIâd rather not kiss next to the dead guy.â
You couldnât help but laugh as Connorâs smile returned, an affection glint in his eyes. His hand found yours, pulling you away from the scene.
âBackup is on the way,â he said. âThey can handle this on their own.â
With his hand in yours, Connor led you away. He gave your hand a quick squeeze. It was a reassurance. A sign that you were safe with him, that he would do whatever it took to protect you. You returned his firm squeeze. Because you would do the same for him.Â
