That's what was running through Levi’s head as he carried his two duffle bags through the sea of parents and children coming into Camp Paradis. 

Fucking summer camp, last time I let Erwin convince me to do this

“This is your fault,” Mikasa says next to him, her suitcase hitting her ankles almost every step. “If you hadn’t lost your job, then that shitty apartment we wouldn’t-.”

“Hey, brat.” He stopped and glared at her. “Do you ever shut the fuck up?”

“I hate you.” She stomped off to the check-in and Levi let out a ‘tch’. 

He walked over to where counselors were supposed to meet up when large hands clapped on his shoulders.

“Levi!” He knew the voice instantly and sighed deeply.

“Erwin.” The blonde moved in front of him, he had that stupid smile on his face. It was his first year as head counselor and Levi already knew he was overly excited. Just like he was when he was Valedictorian for his high school and college class, the best football player in both, and one of the smartest. While still being the kindest guy there was. Someone Levi could call his (best)friend. 

“I'm glad you’re here, let me tell you what cabin you’re being assigned.” Erwin looked at his clipboard and flipped through it. “Ackerman. Ackerman. Acker- ah okay you’re going to be In charge of Cabin G with 10 boys from ages 8 to 16.” Erwin points to the cabin far away. “Oh, and that cabin is next to a girl's cabin so you will have to keep an eye out a bit more often.”

“Great, as if just having to keep them alive for the next two months won't be hard enough.” 

“Hey come on, lighten up.” Levi rolled his eyes and turned his body to walk away but Erwin spoke again. “Made sure Mikasa is in the girl's cabin next to yours.”

“Tch. Why would you do that?” 

“Because she’s your family and you care about her. Regardless of whatever hatred there is between you two.” Levi said nothing and did nothing. Just stared at his friend and walked away.

Two steps into the cabin Levi knew what the first job the kids were going to be doing was. It was disgustingly filthy. He didn’t even want to throw his bags down.

The rest of it was some rules and ways of communication. 

Levi rubbed his face and pinched the bridge of his nose. Oh, he knew this wasn’t going to be good. Between the mix of a whole bunch of adolescent brats and 2 little kids. He’s not getting a moment's peace, but at least he’s getting paid. 

He dropped his bags at the farthest bunk bed and grimaced at the dirt.

Did they not clean these beforehand?

“Hey!” A voice came from the entrance and Levi turned around. A guy with blonde hair and light gray eyes stood at the entrance waving at him. “Furlan Church and you are?” 

“Ackerman.” The blonde cocked his head to the side.

“Oh Levi. Really? I thought you were a-.” The eyebrow raised from Levi told Furlan it was best to keep that thought to himself. “Anyways, campers should be coming in soon, so what bed are you taking?“ 

Levi looked at the bed he was standing by. 

“Alright, guess I'll take this one.” Furlan tossed his bag on the bed by the main door.

Levi remembered during orientation for counselors that there was a storage closet with cleaning supplies. He grabbed the handle and pushed it down but just as he opened it, someone was coming out. Before he could step back, his forehead rammed into their chin and his chest bumped a whole bunch of supplies in their arms. 

“Oh no I'm sorry, I should've watched where I was going.” Levi knew that voice. That irritating, grating voice. Looking up at her face confirmed his fears.

Y/n L/n. A total daddy’s girl with daddy's money. He went to school with you and the last time he saw you was high school graduation. He hated you. He always hated your stupid smile. He always hated how smart you were. He always hated how stupidly kind you were. He always hated how caring you were. He hated how you didn’t look any different you’re still so beautiful. Your stupid perfect hair hasn’t changed. He hated the stupid tank top you wore that matched your perfect skin beautifully. He hated those pretty shorts that he knew your ass looked great in.

“Levi? Levi Ackerman holy shit you’re here!” You say with a big smile and open your arms out wide. Dropping everything else in your arms. You stepped forward to hug him but he stepped back and out of reach making you stop. “Oh sorry.” You drop your arms but still keep a smile. “How have you been? 

He stared at you and let out a huff.

“Fine. What the hell are you doing here? Didn’t see you at the orientation and this isn’t your usual setting.”

“I’ve been a counselor here for 3 years now so it’s not mandatory, it’s nice though.” You squatted down and started grabbing the things off the ground. Cleaning supplies Levi could see. 

“Tch. Thought you’d be in Italy or some other country with your boyfriend.” That made you laugh, he squatted down and grabbed a bottle of cleaner.

“What boyfriend?”

“That rich guy-”

“Oh Sam!? Seriously? He was so obnoxious and not my type at all.” You stood back up and Levi followed. “I actually liked the whole camping thing and taking care of kids, it's nice. What Cabin are you in?’

“G.”

“Hey we’re neighbors, I'm in F as the Head. Guess that’s why I have Mikasa, she’s your cousin right?” He nodded and you pressed your lips together in a straight line. “Okay! I guess I’ll see you later. Bye, Levi.” You brushed past him and he was hit with the scent of your fruity perfume that made him turn his face to follow it. As he did his gray eyes trailed down to your ass.

The kids and parents were slowly starting to trickle in. Parents crying about letting their kids go, kids clinging to their parents, or the parent or kid who just wants to leave or stay to get away from each other. 

In Levi’s cabin, the first boy to arrive was Armin Arlet and his grandfather. He was quiet and settled in quickly. Next was Jean Kirstein, he came in by himself and just by saying a few words. Levi could see this kid had an ego. Eren Yeager came in and Levi and even Furlan were curious about the kid. Armin and he seemed to be good friends since the blonde boy jumped up and ran to Eren screaming his name. Eren’s father came up to Levi and held out his hand.

“I'm Grisha Yeager and this is my wife, Carla, I'm assuming you're Levi.” Their hands met and it ended quickly. “I'm sure they have mentioned our son but trust me on this, my son is a menace, I'm saying he would start a revolution if he could.” Levi sucked in a breath and let it out.

“Sir, I can and will handle your son.” Grisha’s shoulders dropped.

This guy seems disciplined, maybe he is who Eren needs 

“Thank you.” The man says and goes to Eren. 

A long day. A long day indeed.

The last boy to come in was Keiko Xu. He was clutching his mother's hand tightly and his other arm held his stuffed puppy toy. 

“Hey there!” Furlan approached them. “I'm Furlan and you are?” He looked down at the small boy.

“Keiko.” He says and he looks around the cabin and settles on Levi. 

“Cool name, how about you choose a bed kid, we still have three available.” Keiko nodded and dropped his mother's hand. He looked around all the beds, the boys smiling and waving at him. He got closer to Levi and Keiko looked at him in slight fear and that glare wasn’t helping. Levi noticed how nervous the kid was and relaxed his face. 

“Mmm, can I sleep here?” The small boy pointed to the bottom bed of the bunk next to Levi’s.

“Sure kid.” Keiko smiled and sat on the bed. His mother came over dropped his bags down and said her goodbyes. After she left, Furlan closed the door and Levi stood up. 

“Alright brats.” He said loudly and the boys all looked up at him. “Get settled in, we’re leaving in 20 for the grand welcoming in the mess hall. Understood?”

“Yes sir?” Connie salutes and Levi rolls his eyes.

Furlan stood in front leading the group while Levi was in the back making sure none of them strayed. The boys were already becoming fast friends but Keiko was still shy and almost cried when Levi told him to leave his toy so it didn't get lost. But that also seemed to be the reason why Keiko stayed close to Levi, as some sort of protection and comfort Keiko found in such little time. 

He kept looking around at all the people and some bumped into him making him stumble into Levi. In fear of falling, he grabbed Levi's hand and squeezed it tight. Levi’s eyes widened and tried to draw his hand back but Keiko wouldn’t let go. He just had to accept it.

He sat his group down and told them he would be in the back with the other councilors. There were refreshments and snacks that the adults were taking advantage of before the kids ate them all later. To Levi’s surprise, there was tea, it was in the bags but tea nonetheless. He grabbed a mug and the boiling kettle and started his tea. 

He listened to bits and parts of it. Erwin’s overly happy voice was about to give him a headache. 

Someone bumped his shoulder and pressed theirs against his due to the tight fit.

“Y/n.” 

“Levi.” You smiled at him. “Can I ask you a question?” 

“Mmm?” He took a sip. 

“Do you hate me? Like have I done something to you in the past? I just feel like you don’t like me.” He side-eyes you and takes another sip.

“Sorry if I wasn’t so fucking bubbly and happy.” He spit and you scrunch your nose.

“Guess I have my answer.” You start to walk away and Levi rolls his head back and shoots his arm out to grab your elbow 

“Wait brat.” He pulled you back next to him. “I don’t hate you.” 

“Then you strongly dislike me when I haven’t done anything to you. Tell me why you hate me.” He rolled his eyes and stayed quiet. “Fine if you don’t want to tell me, why don’t we just start over, and then when you have fallen hopelessly in love with me, you will forget why you hated me at all.” 

“Tch.” He shook his head and looked into his tea with a small smile.“In your dreams, but fine.” Keith Shadis, the director of the camp, was talking now about to close out. 

“So after lunch, me and my girls were going to do arts and crafts, do you and your boys want to join us?” Levi thought for a moment and stared at his group. He’d known them for less than two hours and he could tell they would prefer to throw a football or play volleyball rather than arts and crafts. Well, Armin and Keiko seem like they would. 

Fuck it

“Sure, I’ll bring them over.” 

“Fun!” You say and elbow him.

There were no directors, no counselors, no campers in the courtyard due to all of them being in the mess hall. 

Nobody knew of the man standing in the trees by the nurse's office. 

Staring right through the window. 

Staring right at Levi and Y/n.

En contra de Educación, y a insistencia de “Tatito”, armerías podrán estar junto a planteles

Legislatura aprueba enmiendas a la Ley de Armas que no pidieron el gobierno ni los comerciantes de armas en la isla, excepto un armero al que las enmiendas le salvan un negocio.

El armero Ariel Torres Meléndez tuvo más capacidad de persuasión que el exsecretario de Educación, Eliezer Ramos Parés, y ahora está listo para la firma del Gobernador un proyecto que permite la ubicación de armerías justo al lado de planteles escolares, como lo quiere hacer el armero en el pueblo de Trujillo Alto.

Si el Proyecto Sustitutivo (PS) al 575 y 382 de la Cámara de Representantes se convierte en ley, la milla de distancia que hay que guardar ahora entre un plantel y una armería se elimina completamente. Durante el proceso de discusión legislativa, la distancia se había reducido a 300 metros, pero en la versión final que aprobaron los cuerpos legislativo, la distancia desapareció.

La reducción a 300 metros de un plantel se mantuvo para armerías que tengan clubes de tiro cerrados, pero “las armerías que no tengan campo de tiro no tendrán que cumplir con las disposiciones de distancias, pero sí con la disposición de doble puerta”, dice la versión final aprobada.

En una ponencia en febrero pasado, cuando lo que estaba sobre la mesa eran restricciones de distancia con relación a armerías con campos de tiro, Ramos Parés planteó al Senado que “entendemos que las restricciones de la ley actual (una milla de distancia) deben mantenerse”. “Esta no es una posición irrazonable… Nuestra sociedad ha priorizado, históricamente, el bienestar de los menores sobre otros derechos constitucionales por la condición vulnerable de nuestra niñez”, añadió. “Nuestra cultura no es una que idealice armar a la ciudadanía, esta siempre ha favorecido la educación, prevención y rehabilitación para combatir la violencia y la criminalidad”, dijo también.

Tras esto es que surge el lenguaje aprobado que hace dos cosas: aplica la restricción de distancia solo a los campos de tiro, o las armerías con campos de tiro, y elimina toda restricción de distancia de planteles para las armerías que no tengan campos de tiro. Durante una vista en el Senado en la que compareció como presidente de la Corporación para la Defensa del Poseedor de Licencia de Armas de Puerto Rico, Inc. (CODEPOLA), Torres Meléndez ni mencionó esta parte del proyecto. Se concentró en criticar la forma en que la Policía aplica la Ley de Armas y comentó que “aquí no estamos hablando de enmiendas complicadas, son meramente pequeños ajustes para el beneficio de los ciudadanos”.

Con el lenguaje de 300 metros para armería con club de tiro cerrado, no estaba claro que Torres Meléndez pudiera justificar la licencia para Shooters Sports Armory, su negocio en Trujillo Alto que colinda con áreas residenciales y tiene al menos cinco planteles públicos y privados en el radio de una milla. Pero, con el nuevo lenguaje, puede operar allí si se limita a armería y no club de tiro. El armero también busca desarrollar un club de tiro abierto en el área de Salinas, pero la propuesta está impugnada en tribunales por el grupo comunitario Acción Social y Protección Ambiental Inc. (ASPA) en un proceso que preside el juez Josian Rivera Torres, quien fue asesor del representante Luis “Narmito” Ortiz Lugo.

Ortiz Lugo ha sido la punta de lanza de Torres Meléndez para este proyecto de enmiendas a la nueva Ley de Armas, que apenas fue aprobada en 2020. Ortiz Lugo es también lugarteniente en la delegación popular del presidente de la Cámara, Rafael “Tatito” Hernández Montañez, quien, supo NotiCel, personalmente se interpuso para evitar una enmienda del vicepresidente del cuerpo, José “Conny” Varela Fernández, que se discutió en caucus y que hubiera restablecido el parámetro de una milla de distancia de la ley actual. El presidente del cuerpo también presionó a legisladores para la aprobación de la medida.

A preguntas de NotiCel, Hernández Montañez dijo que la legislación sobre armas es una de las que implican “razones religiosas” que “levantan las defensas de los más conservadores o los más liberales” y por eso permite a los miembros de la delegación “votar libremente sin regla de caucus”. Añadió que las votaciones para aprobar el PS, y para concurrir con las enmiendas que le hizo el Senado, fueron “similar”. Las votaciones en la Cámara fueron con un bloque mayoritario de legisladores de los partidos Popular Democrático y Nuevo Progresista.

En el Senado, las enmiendas las tramitó el expresidente del cuerpo, Thomas Rivera Schatz. La Cámara concurrió con las enmiendas del Senado el martes pasado.

“[E]stas enmiendas parecen dirigidas a tirarle un toallazo a dos o tres personas en problemas con la ley vigente. No hay otra explicación para la eliminación de la distancia entre escuelas y armerías, ni para pasarle la manita a una persona que no renueva su licencia o porta un arma de forma ostentosa. No estamos hablando de una industria cualquiera, sino de armas de fuego cuya falta de regulación puede tener consecuencias de vida o muerte”, dijo el representante del Movimiento Victoria Ciudadana, José Bernardo Márquez, en reacción a la aprobación del PS y al pedirle al gobernador Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia que vete la medida.

“No hay explicación ni fundamento de política pública para estas enmiendas, que no sea que algunos cabilderos las impulsaron y las lograron”, añadió Márquez en palabras que encontraron eco en la opinión de Víctor González García, representante de la Asociación de Armeros y dueño de la armería A.A.A.

Márquez y González García, sin embargo, ven de manera diferente los efectos de las enmiendas que introdujo el PS, además del tema de la distancia de las escuelas.

Para el representante, quien tiene otro proyecto pendiente para limitar la cantidad de municiones que puede comprar un poseedor de licencia de armas, con las enmiendas “[s]e están debilitando los mecanismos de fiscalización y cumplimiento con la ley, en momentos en que deberíamos robustecerlos”. Además de la distancia, Márquez particularizó sobre la despenalización de la portación de armas con licencias vencidas; la reducción de sanciones para casos de portación ostentosa, y la reducción de las inspecciones de las armerías.

Mientras, González García subrayó que “la industria no pidió esto y el estado no pidió esto tampoco, es un proyecto de petición”, en referencia al mecanismo legislativo que permite que un ciudadano presente un proyecto a través de un legislador. Señaló que el PS mantiene, o añade, restricciones al uso de armas de fuego que entiende son inconstitucionales a la luz de decisiones que el Tribunal Supremo federal tomó después de la aprobación de la Ley de Armas en 2020 y que fortalecen el derecho a portar armas y limitan la capacidad de restricción del estado.

Para el armero, la única enmienda que todavía es necesaria es que se reconozca que una persona que tiene licencia de armas puede portar cualquier arma siempre y cuando la haya obtenido legalmente, en vez de solo las armas que tiene registradas con la Policía como que son de su propiedad. Lo comparó con los vehículos de motor, que el estado le da una licencia de conducir al ciudadano y con esa licencia puede guiar cualquier vehículo, siempre y cuando su posesión del mismo sea por medios legales.

Sobre eso, el proyecto solo lo liberalizó en cuanto a los matrimonios, o a aquellas parejas en una relación análoga al matrimonio. La medida dispone que, si los dos tienen licencia, pueden portar el arma de cualquiera de los dos.

González García criticó que se sigan haciendo excepciones de personas que no tienen que pagar $200 para obtener una licencia, cuando lo que debe ocurrir es que se acabe de eliminar ese cargo para todo el mundo; que la evaluación de la solicitud esté sujeta al proceso litigioso de reconsideración administrativa y revisión en los tribunales cuando actualmente la licencia se otorga permanentemente si la Policía no encuentra justificación para rechazar la solicitud en un término específico; que se le den más facultades a la Policía para ocupar armas legales sin orden judicial y que se convierta al armero en informante de la Policía porque se le obliga a someter una querella cuando la persona compra más de 20,000 balas en un año y con esa querella la Policía investigaría al comprador.

“¿Que el estado venga a casa a investigarme porque yo compro algo que es legal y no hago mal uso de él?”, cuestionó González García al señalar también que la Policía no necesita que los armeros le den esa información porque tienen acceso al registro electrónico que dice cuántas armas y cuántas municiones ha adquirido la persona que tiene licencia.

Kittens, you’ve been super busy these past two weeks, haven’t you? And all those moving vans lately... I can’t wait to see our new residents unpack more than just those boxes, but until then...

Kennedy Knight was seen dodging someone’s phone calls. Is it her family? Her baby’s daddy? Her doctor to schedule her to pop that thing out already? Or maybe it’s Jaylan Trevino she’s avoiding. After all, he sure has been spending time drooling after some long-legged babes these days. Are they over before they began? Speaking of over before they began... Harrison Abernathy and Maribelle Wagner have been spending more time apart than together these days. Have those flames finally fizzled out?

And okay, who the hell is going to snatch up Amelia Reyes? Girl is a total babe, and she’s always alone. Someone is missing out on a prime banging opportunity right there. And while I’m on my prime banging opportunity train of thought, Cassian Clarke, were you or were you not already dating Eloise Delacroix? What are you, playing hard to get? Boy, you already got her.  Illyana Olsen was seen doing the walk of shame last week -- from the apartment of someone who is very much in a committed relationship. Threesome or mistress? I am dying to know. Same with you, Harlow Jensen, who were you with last week? And does he like it when you call him daddy?

Speaking of daddies, Gabriel James-Michaels was seen getting into a verbal altercation with Constance James. Could this have to do with the pregnancy test he was seen buying a few weeks ago? I tried to ask Jonathan James-Michaels what was going on with Gabe and Connie, but he isn’t taking my calls.

Charley Daniels has finally come out of hibernation. Welcome back to the land of the living! Could it have to do with Jaclynn Madison being back in town? Or maybe she’s back to keep an eye on the Gallaviches -- because those fellas have been one hot mess lately. Or should I say two hot messes?

While I’m on the topic of Jaclynn Madison, is there anyone she’s not actively trying to hook-up with. Babe, thirsty is never a good look. And you know who’s looking really thirsty? Emilio Ramos, It looks like he’s back on his usual shit. I wonder how Lilly Romano feels about that.

College AU Week 1 Day 2 - Javier Pena

A/N: Day 2 of the January AU challenge and 300 follower celebration! I had so much fun writing this one and if you want a second smutty part I could be persuaded to do it. Thank you for every reblog, comment, and like. :)

My friend dragged me to this party, and I just saw my ex quick make out with me. 

Javier readjusted the tie in the mirror again for the twelfth time before ripping it off and opening up the top three buttons of the shirt. Tugging on his trusty leather jacket over the shirt and holstering his gun. Javier spent his life working as an on-campus security guard at the local University. Breaking up parties with underage drinking, busting students for narcotics use, and making sure they felt safe on campus. He took great pride in his job, and the pay wasn't awful. Although as he's gotten older over the last few years, he felt something was missing from his life. 

He joined some of the dating sites and apps that his buddy Steve, a history professor, suggested. Steve had met his wife, Connie, on one of the sites, and they seemed happy with their new baby girl Olivia so why not. It was a disaster. The dates were dull and expensive, each of them expecting him to dish out for them. He still slept with all of them, but nothing lasted for more than an evening of fun. It was cheaper and easier to pick someone up in a bar than find a relationship with someone. 

The newest guard at the station Daniel Van Ness had begged him to get out of the faculty party he had been assigned. Javier hated them just as much as the recruit, but by now, he had a few friends on the faculty, and it wouldn't be a total bore. He just needed to make sure no students crashed the party and that anyone who drank too much got home safe and not behind the wheel. It wasn't the most ideal event, but every dollar he made went back into the house fund. Javier had the goal of buying a house this year, and he was so close to making his goal.

Across town, you readjusted the straps on your purple dress for the twelfth time. Faculty events were the bane of your existence. As a literature professor and the classics, you'd much rather spend the evening with a glass of whiskey, comfy couch, and a book. Instead, your friend Tata decided it would be fun if you tagged along this year. 

You hated events like these, but the President of the University insisted on these events to raise funds for the school. Although with the outrageous amount of money they collect from students and the way they badger former students for donations, the school should be rolling in the dough. 

Tata's husband was in commerce and owned a large shipping company across town. Tata ran the daycare the University used to teach students about business and childcare. She was one of the sweetest women you'd ever met, even if her husband did kind of give you the creeps. 

Your phone chimes and you smile at the party emojis from Tata and reply back that your on the way. Grabbing your black lace shawl and tossing it over your shoulders and your purse, plopping in your phone and heading for the party. Who knows, maybe it would all turn out for the better? 

Who the hell ever told you to be so optimistic? It's basically asking for trouble. The party was in full swing when you arrived. Well, as full swing as a party full of academics can be. The DJ was trying to play music people could dance to, but only a few were actually dancing, and it was mostly couples. Tata sees you instantly, and you almost groan at how effortless she looks. She's smaller than most people in the room, with cute shoulder-length brown hair that curls at the ends and a strapless purple dress with a thin see-through shawl around her shoulders. 

"You made it," she squeals and pulls you into a hug. 

You can't help but smile at her enthusiasm and return the hug, "Did you ever doubt me?" 

"Of absolutely! If I hadn't threatened to come and drag you out of that apartment, you wouldn't be here. But I am very glad you here, now Pablo owes me money, he bet against you." She grins and pinches her fingers together. 

"You and your husband had a bet to see if I would come to the faculty party?" You laugh, and she takes a sip, nodding. 

"Yes, the business has been a little slow lately, and you know my husband is always planning what's next. I needed something to keep his mind on me." 

You loved Tata, but her husband was really an asshole; you could smell the fake from a mile away. You see the bar and tell Tata you're going to get a drink, but she's already off like a butterfly floating around the room. You make your way over to the bar, order a whiskey on the rocks and take a small sip turning around the room and scoping out the scene. 

Your eyes lock in on the movement in the corner. From the shadows emerges, someone new from the usual faculty crowd. He's tall and broad as hell in a black leather jacket thrown over a light blue button-up the top three buttons undone exposing his chest, tucked into dark wash jeans. You observe the holster around his waist tucked under the coat and the badge. He must be campus security, and it's almost like he can feel your eyes on him. He looks up from the shadows, and your eyes meet. 

Holy fuck. 

His eyes captivate you and suck you in like the swirling vortex of a tornado. Sucking you in deeper and deeper into his soul. It's electric. You see his lips curve up in a small smile, and his mustache rises, and all you can imagine is how it would feel against your lips if you kissed him. He takes a step in your direction, and you move a step closer before someone is shouting your name. You freeze and turn, looking at the door, mouth agape. 

Your ex-boyfriend Roberto Ramos is striding over to you wearing tan dress pants and a blue and white striped polo. You grimace, looking back over towards the handsome stranger and then back at Poison. Tata's little nickname she came up with after you broke up and realized how honestly much of a scumbag he was. You make the split decision, and place down your drink and walk quickly over to the guard. He raises one eyebrow as you race over to him. 

You throw your arms around his neck, and he places his on your waist. "Save me, please," you whisper, looking at him with wide eyes, "that's my ex over there, and I really want him to leave me alone. If it looks like we're here together, he won't approach." 

"That one?" he nods, and you try to look over the corner of your eye and see Poison freeze watching you. You shake a yes and smile at the guard. "Seems like a fascinating guy," he deadpans, and you laugh, making him smile down at you. "What do you need me to do? Get rid of him? He's just staring at us." He whispers conspiratorially, grinning at you. 

"Kiss me," the words are out of your mouth before you can think, "make out with me, and he will leave me alone." His smile drops, and he looks between your eyes and lips before nodding. His head drops, and he tentatively connects his lips with your own. He presses once then twice, taking a step closer to you and running his fingers up your neck and dipping your head back, deepening the kiss. 

You gasp and grasp the lapels of his leather jacket, his arms winding around your shoulders and pulling you even closer, no space between you. His tongue swipes across your bottom lip, and you open, feeling him lick inside your mouth. His tongue tangling up with your own. You moan lowly, and he takes a step further into the shadows and into the hallway away from the party. Your back connects with the wall, and you let out a small grunt before you run your fingers through his hair and tug gently. He groans and pushes a knee between your legs spreading them—your panties rubbing against the fabric of his jeans. The feeling between your legs is enough to snap you back to reality. 

"Wait," you pull away panting, he drops his head to your shoulder, letting out hurried breaths before he slowly raises his eyes, resting his forehead against yours. 

"Too much?" he asks, nervously chuckling. 

"Not enough, to be honest," you look into his eyes and smile. "That was...fucking amazing, but we shouldn't really have sex across the hall from a faculty party." 

His cute little eyebrow raises again, "Oh, is that where this was headed? I thought you just needed me to escape your ex?" 

You laugh, "Well, if he doesn't get the hint now, I think I may need to file a restraining order." 

"I can help you with that if you need it," you smile and kiss him again, loving the feel of his mustache brushing against your lip. 

"I don't think he will be a problem anymore, but...maybe I am a little nervous about going home right now, ya know, in case he shows up…" 

"Well, we can't have that. Would you like to maybe spend the night over at my place?" You match his smile and nod, "for safety, right?" 

"Oh yeah, for safety," you take his hand, and he intertwines your fingers. 

"I need to stay till the end of the party for work," he looks down at his watch, "we got about two hours. Do you think you can make it that long?" 

"Can I stay near you?" he nods, and raises your intertwined hands to his lips, and kisses your knuckles. 

"On one condition," he teases, "you have to tell me your name." You laugh, letting him know your name, and he smiles, telling you his. Javier Pena. The name rolls off your tongue, and he groans before kissing you again. "This is going to be the longest two hours of my life." 

"Well, if you make it through this party, I can tell you the after-party will be much for enjoyable." He moans, and his eyes darken. 

"I can't wait."

The Art of Steven Universe The Movie was released March 3, 2020. It's a wonderful journey through the concept art, character development, and experience of fashioning these ideas into the movie we all love.

An introduction explains the same origin story that Rebecca Sugar told us in the movie DVD's commentary: that she accidentally restored her phone to factory settings and lost years of important stuff, and she ended up applying that devastating premise to her movie. That combined with the concept of "breaking" the main premise of a TV show to make a movie was how she got started developing the story. The opening of the movie styled like a storybook is blocked out with some great drawings and breakdowns of which narration would go to what storybook pages. This is combined with some partial sheet music for "The Tale of Steven." Rebecca writes about how she felt having to wrap pre-production on Season 5 only to take on this even bigger movie challenge. The biggest challenge was writing all these songs in such a short time--six weeks--and having to deal with the stress, being crushed under all that pressure while still wanting to do this story so badly, and it was humbling to still have to work so hard to sell the idea. The feeling of relief to finally be done that Steven expresses in "Happily Ever After" is very similar to what Rebecca went through feeling like she wanted to be finally done but still knowing what she had to do to climb an even bigger mountain. Some very cute Steven-at-age-16 and Connie in Space Camp clothes follow. Notes indicate that Steven and Connie are the same height now, but his poofy hair is just slightly higher than her head.

Notes from 2017 also give us the "Neckstravaganza": design notes on Steven's new form, with a neck and a jacket. It's very cool.

Some beautiful Joe Johnston boards follow, with sequences from the "Happily Ever After" song. We also get Angie Wang's final design (with Ashley Fisher's color) of the injector, including some sketchy concept art for it from Rebecca Sugar and Hilary Florido. In the rough concept notes, they call this the "Mega Injector," with notes for Takafumi Hori to use for scale. It looks beyond huge in a Leonard Hung drawing.

Spinel concepts are next. Some notes explain that aivi & surasshu (the usual composers) were involved very early since it was a musical, and Rebecca included them when pitching the story to the Crew so they could organically develop the sound. The heart shape was central to Spinel from the beginning, and early versions of her had an entire heart shape to her head.

(There's a doodle of what looks like a cartoon dog in the pile of drawings shown in this section. It's not clear what that was.)

Spinel was given the heart imagery partly because Rebecca had learned early on about the importance of symbols, and when it came time to assign one to Steven, the star was chosen because it's so positive and is read as gender-neutral. Rebecca still hadn't used hearts for anything, so it was time. They also incorporated really old, dated character design ideas to make Spinel feel like an outdated cartoon from the rubber hose era.

The aspect of her design with the running mascara versus cute eyelashes predated the rotation of her Gem. Rebecca likes to start with more realistic sketches when she's figuring out a character, and then she'll move to making it more cartoony. A quote from Miki Brewster is shared: "Spinel can do anything, as long as it's entertaining!" Her "best friend" form is described as "a doll for friendship fun & games! Of a different era--hokey, charming, weird...super gullible and trusting. Incredibly loyal, constant entertainment machine!"

When it comes to developing her "worst enemy" form, Rebecca explains a bit that she has a really complicated relationship with old cartoons because nostalgia is not compelling to her--the animation from the 1930s is so neat, but considering the social limits and the way the industry was at the time, Rebecca doesn't think she could have participated. Especially considering nowadays she even had to struggle to be allowed to tell the stories she needed to tell and it would have been impossible five years ago. The norms of the time aren't entirely extricable from the art itself.

Takafumi Hori weighs in with commentary on how fun it was to animate a scary but fun character on top of Miki Brewster's boards for the "Other Friends" fight sequence.

Next, moving on from the central new character, they also spend some time discussing Steg. Rebecca first explains "Steg Multiverse" as a character so uplifting he can make you fly, combining Greg's unending support and Steven's positive power. She makes reference to the early "stegosaurus" concepts they had for his look, but they didn't want to lose the opportunity to have his hair flow. Rebecca confirms that the pompadour idea was established in "Steven and the Stevens" so they wanted to give it to Steg, and she credits Paul Villeco for really finalizing his design and bringing him to life.

And of course the poofy hair from Steven and the double-necked guitar was essential for Steg.

Next, the book gives us a whole page of handwritten notes about "Drift Away." Kat Morris explains the intentional duality of the scene--how Spinel should be shown seeing her own past with new perspective, being embarrassed, blending together who she was with who she is. The partial lyrics to the song and some sketchy boards are offered.

Rebecca shares her personal connection with the subject matter--how she once left a stuffed animal in her garden and the side facing the sun faded. It really made a mark on her as a child that things changed without her, because of her actions, and that she'd left this treasured toy alone without thinking about it all that time, letting it be affected by the elements without her interference. She wrote "Everything Stays" for Adventure Time based on that plushie, and realized that she was writing about it again for the Steven Universe movie.

Partial sheet music for "Drift Away" is also offered here. It's credited to Rebecca Sugar and Aimee Mann. The music sheet is followed by some lovely images of the garden by Julian De Perio, Patrick Bryson, and Leonard Hung.

Takafumi Hori returns for a discussion of the final fight sequence during "Change," which he animated from Jeff Liu's boards. He discusses trying to keep the fight feeling dramatic and serious even though Spinel's fighting style is funny. He wanted to keep her tension. Hori-san throws in a word of thanks for being allowed to work on his favorite show again, praises Jeff and Miki, and compliments Rebecca Sugar's demos. He hoped we'd get a soundtrack album. (Of course, we did.)

Some final boards by Rebecca Sugar and Becky Dreistadt of the characters in their show gear descending the steps close out the book. There are also some cute little doodles at the end on the credits page, like a head of lettuce with caption "lettuce adore you" and Spinel in a drifting go-kart laughing, captioned "drift away."

Overall, the book is wonderful--the accompanying information is generally not new to anyone who watched the DVD's documentary and commentary, and many of the sketches have been released one way or another directly by the artists through Instagram, Twitter, or Tumblr blogs. There was still plenty of wonderful new concept art that wasn't already out there, and looking at some of the iterations Spinel and Steg went through was particularly captivating. There was no new insight into the development of the plot beyond the premise and the Spinel-related conflict, though; nothing about how they decided to focus the Garnet storyline, the Pearl storyline, and the Amethyst storyline for how they would each get their memories back, and there was no spotlight on their movie versions--modern Cotton Candy Garnet, copycat baby Amethyst, and factory settings uncustomized Pearl. I was hoping especially for some Amethyst stuff because the movie was the first place we got to see her with the simple default outfit and segmented limbs. It was primarily an art book with commentary on some of the most definitive movie aspects--it didn't reach the depth that Art and Origins gave us. It has a start-to-finish feeling in a sense, but it's mostly just splashes of information that are fun to know. It's a great companion and definitely should not be missed by any fan of the movie. I recommend it heartily!
