Steve Kerr Legacy and the Future of USA Basketball: What’s Next?
Steve Kerr’s Legacy and the Future of USA Basketball: What’s Next? When we think about USA Basketball, one name that has been synonymous with success is Kerr. Having secured multiple NBA championships as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, Kerr stepped into the international spotlight when he became the head coach of the USA Basketball men’s team. But, as the winds of change blow, it…

Becky is super loyal to players she’s invested in and I love how she fights for them on and off the court
Becky has just always been a good coach, and when she invest in her players, it’s just 🤌🏻. The fact that she told Kate to shadow AC at the START of training camp? She sees Kate as a AC 2.0, so she’s definitely molding Kate for something and got plans for her. Becky just do stuff without intent, so there’s definitely intent in her tasking Kate to learn from AC. Becky also values the little things (got it from Popovich) and Kate does a lot of the little things on the court.
SPEAK IT 🗣️
(im so thankful that kate went into a team with a coach that really values her and is willing to take a chance on her— kate is truly one of the lucky ones)

Pick a new collab for arknights and outline the plotblurb for the event.
I considered Bloodborne but we kinda already have that with the Abyssal Hunters
I considered RWBY but I sorta already did that in a prior post
Let's go with a crossover with professional basketball in a Space Jam-esque goofy event where the Rhodes Island Defenders have to save the world from whatever the fuck necessitated the construction of the false sky that Kirsten broke by defeating them in an exhibition match. The players train with NBA Hall-of-Famers at their respective positions, while Coach Doctor learns strategy and tactics from the legendary Gregg Popovich. The roster is as follows:
Point Guard: Nearl (trainer: Steph Curry)
Shooting Guard: Horn (trainer: Dwyane Wade)
Small Forward: Saria (trainer: Kevin Durant )
Power Forward: Eunectes (trainer: Dirk Nowitzki)
Center: Hoshiguma (trainer: Shaquille O'Neal)
The players on the roster all get basketball skins, as does Amiya, who gets a lore-relevant Defender Alter as one of the team's substitutes and the one who scores the game-winning buzzer-beater. She later uses her newfound skills to dunk on Theresis and take her place as the King of Fiends, ruler of the Royal Court.
Blemishine, Bagpipe, new 6-star event operator Kirsten Wright, Gavial, and Ch'en all get cheerleader skins. Amiya's associated cheerleader is Kal'tsit, but she threatened Closure to keep the skin from showing up in the shop, thus forever depriving us of the ability to deploy Mon3tr with a skirt and pom-poms.
The event starts with the Galleria Stellaria crashing down through the hole in the sky it initially ascended through and landing near the border between Columbia and Sami. Saria, recieving Kirsten's distress call and fearing what the Columbian government will do to her after her actions in Lone Trail (because her first thought is still to protect her), asks Rhodes Island to recover her from the wreckage before either the DOD or Maylander can arrive. Upon receiving medical treatment, Kirsten reveals the existence of invaders from beyond the stars and warns that Terra has limited time to prepare. As Rhodes Island's operators clash with DOD/Maylander strike teams, Kirsten informs the Doctor that the combined military might of Terra's sovereign nations is insufficient to repel the impending attack, but mentions that the files she stole and decrypted from one of the enemy ships implies that they can be convinced to retreat by defeating their mightiest warriors in a form of ritualistic combat known only as... "basketball".
Saria arrives at Rhodes Island to check on Kirsten and they have many Yuri Moments together while everyone else in the room stands there coughing uncomfortably. Kal'tsit contacts the Maylander Foundation and the Tin Man arrives shortly after, bearing a missive from President Mark Max on behalf of the Columbian government. The Tin Man provides all the data Columbia's archives have on this mysterious "basket ball", warning the assembled members of Rhine Lab/Rhodes Island that everything he has shared is highly classified and that the President expects their discretion. Most of the data is useless, but a report from a Columbian research station in Sami indicates that more information about "basketball" can be found by traversing one of the many dimensional rifts in the northern icefields. Rhodes Island calls in every ally it can find, assembles a team of its hardiest operators, and sets out for the frozen north.
After fighting its way through hordes of icefield demons, Rhodes Island and its allies manage to locate a likely portal and send forth communications and scouting drones in hopes of locating information about "basketball". What they find is a nation similar in many respects to the Columbian Union, though its advanced technology is in many respects very different from what they're used to seeing on Terra. Fending off attacks from the icefield demons, our heroes are about to lose hope when one of the communications drones picks up a reference to a place known as... Madison Square Garden. Video and audio footage of that night's Knicks vs. Spurs game is sufficient to convince Kal'tsit and the Tin Man that they have found the "basketball" they seek. The rules of the sport are not overly complicated, but developing the skills and strategies in the time they have available is not considered feasible, so Rhodes Island sends Operator Hellagur, at great risk, to make contact with the winning coach in hopes of securing his assistance. A bargain is struck - Pop will tutor the players in basketball basics and teach the Doctor how to coach the team, while a group of the best players to ever touch the game will help Rhodes Island's roster refine its techniques. In exchange, Rhine Labs will help the "National Basketball Association" adapt its broadcasts for a Terran audience.
The Doctor recruits other Rhodes Island operators to serve as the Rhodes Island Defenders' practice partners while the Columbian military sets up defenses around the portal and its communications array. The team improves steadily, but it feels like something essential is missing. No one has any clue what that might be, until one day when Kirsten shows up at practice claiming to have found the missing component. She mentions that after poring over every scrap of footage she could find, she determined that what the team needs is a group of fans and well-wishers, and follows this pronouncement by unveiling official Marthe cheerleader outfits, commissioned jointly by Rhodes Island and Rhine Labs. Several operators volunteer to form the Rhodes Island cheerleading squad (Ch'en gets bullied into it), and Bibeak alters the uniforms to fit them. They practice alongside the basketball team, and the players demonstrate notable improvement with something to simulate the adoration of their fans.
The fated day arrives, and after a brief clash with the alien forces, wherein Rhodes Island and its allies just barely manage to hold the line, an avenue of communication is opened with Kirsten's help and the challenge is issued: if the Rhodes Island defenders can defeat the alien invaders in a game of basketball, they will win their world a brief reprieve. Using alien technology, the match will be broadcast all across Terra, and people from every nation on the planet send Rhodes Island and its team tokens of their support. The world comes together, sort of, in perhaps the first time in Kal'tsit's living memory, to her equal parts amazement and chagrin.
The match is epic, brutal, and violent, with things like "fouls" reserved for injuries at least as severe as broken bones. The team fights hard and gives as good as it gets, but eventually star point guard Margaret Nearl is forced to leave the court with serious injuries after she leads an epic comeback and puts her body on the line to protect her teammates. Amiya subs in for her as Saria runs the offense, and the Doctor's coaching is crucial to allowing Rhodes Island to keep the game close. At a pivotal moment, Amiya manifests Nearl's shield and swordspear, much like she did with Chi Xiao against Talulah, and strikes down the enemy's deadliest player before sinking a fadeaway jumper as the clock runs out.
All of Terra erupts into cheers. The alien invaders retreat. Rhodes Island and its operators are hailed as heroes worldwide. Many people get drunk and party. Lots of babies are born nine months later. Someone posts pictures of Kal'tsit's ass on social media. Only a few in the know worry about the eventual return of the invaders.
Kirsten Wright is the 6-star banner operator for this event. She's the first operator with the ability to switch classes outright during an operation - her base class is an offensive ranged unit whose kit focuses around manipulating the planetarium spheres from her boss fight, while her alternative class is a Bard Supporter and features her donning her cheerleader outfit to encourage her allies. The banner 5-star is Jordan, a Forte Sniper with a sick jump shot and a habit of sticking her tongue out in battle. The event welfare is S&C Coach Sideroca, a 5-star Instructor Guard who provides stat buffs and heals to Guards, Defenders, Snipers, Vanguards, and Specialists.
Skins include the aforementioned basketball outfits and cheerleader getups, as well as Coach Dobermann and Athletic Trainer Silence. General Manager Hellagur, Towel Boy Bison, and Concession Stand Worker Schwarz (she hates customer service) also make a limited-time appearance in the shop.
The final boss is actually five different units at once. As each unit is defeated, the remaining units gain buffs depending on which unit was defeated previously. When all five are defeated, they revive with greatly reduced HP and increased movement speed, becoming briefly unblockable as they mount a last-ditch drive to the basket. Take them down quickly, or all of Terra will pay the price...

Today's translation #330
Yuri!!! on ICE DVD #3, Characters' profiles
Georgi Popovich
A veteran skater, who's specialty are very high jumps, characteristic for Yakov's students, but he is often hidden by the shadow of Nikiforov, another student of the same coach. For the season without Nikiforov, he chose two programs with a theme of "heartbreak", to fight for the title of Russia's best skater. He shows his unique artistry by becoming a terrifying witch, who puts a curse on a princess in his short program, and prince who saves the princess in his free program. His enthusiasm for practicing and listening to what the coach says has Yakov's seal of approval. He always entertains the audience with his feminine costumes and in Japan, he has the nickname "Pigeon".
Leo de la Iglesia
A skater who knows very well his own advantages, and always skates very original programs that he himself choreographs. He doesn't have any quadruple jumps, but thanks to the artistic expression he shows in his programs, that always go very well with his music, he gets extremely high PCS. This season, he challenges himself with a short program skated to hip hop music. In his home country's Grand Prix event, Skate America, he won gold and now he's riding the wave of success. He's private face is that of a very social Mexican American with a positive attitude. He has a lot of friends among skaters and a lot of fans who always look forward to see new photos of his private life that he posts on social media. He respects Victor Nikiforov, who just like himself, always choreographs his own programs.

Anatomy of Failure
I felt like I was on trial watching Anatomy of a Fall -- for my failures as a writer and the ensuing resentments misdirected at my partner. Seeing my private torments litigated in a riveting courtroom drama, spoken in clinical French, was titillating. The writing was so sharp I could’ve just listened like the blind son Daniel and been engaged. But I loved watching Daniel practice piano, the baby blue glaze over his eyes and his surprise testimony in a redrum turtleneck.
The story wastes no time. Within five minutes, the husband is found dead, bleeding out in the snow. An autopsy cannot rule out foul play and his wife, a writer, becomes the sole suspect. What unravels in court is not only the events that precipitated the death of her husband, but an ultimate tea concoction of their strained relationship, competing literary ambitions and the blame and guilt surrounding the accident that blinded their son.
Entering a foreign court is a bit jarring. The rules, procedures and dress are notably different from America and seem silly when defamiliarized. The prosecutor, a bald little gremlin robed in red, was probably my favorite character. Arched, dry and eloquent, he bludgeoned the accused writer with an avalanche of incriminating evidence and was quick to undercut any counter/argument from the defense. Court rules in France appear to allow more cross-talk, making the arguments more conversational than U.S. court dramas, which glorify long-winded monologues.
Tumblr media
Impressively, the writer/director thread the needle so well that one is never quite convinced one way or the other. I am easily persuaded and in this lawyerly tug of war, I felt myself suspended over a chasm with demons of jealousy, envy and pride snapping at my feet.
For all the talk of literary failure, this was a written masterpiece. I am drawn to such stories, like a moth to flame, for so many deep and cutting reasons. Like the husband, I deflect and blame others for my shortcomings: If only X, Y and Z were different, then I could write! The wife’s gaslighting voice lives within me too: Make the time and do it, coward! And I disdain my father for giving up sports journalism, and for withholding those ambitions from me (Had I known earlier, maybe then I’d be a staff writer!) and on himself in general.
Funny enough, when I was biking home after seeing Fallen Leaves last week, I had the high thought that my senior thesis anticipated my current condition with regards to writing. My argument was garbled -- something about the author subverting masculine forms/expectations of writing (adventure, heroism) using feminine forms (diary, domesticity) through an act of ventriloquy -- but the book I chose to write about was a book about a wannabe writer’s failure.
Called El Libro Vacio and written by Josefina Vicens, it was a novel about the shortcomings of a middle class man working in middle management and his literary shortcomings. He wanted to be a great writer, but he was tormented and uninspired by the banality of his day-to-day life as a family man. If only he didn’t have a kid and wife, he could hit the road and sail the high seas and finally have something to say! He studiously documents his failures and torments in a diary that amounts to the novel by Vicens.
In my early 20s, I was interested in what makes a good leader. I studied the polar explorer Ernest Shackleton, the most winningest basketball coach Gregg Popovich and read more than a dozen presidential biographies. But now I find myself fixated on failure, my own and my fathers, and I want to learn the art of letting go.

i came across this ask which ill give my first shot at answering in my own way cause im a spurs fan! and girl all i can say is i wish there was more tea to report on 😭😭 not to say that theres zero drama going down in san antonio.. ive always asked myself: theres so much nba tea floating around but so little on my guys?? but now i understand that drama doesnt happen as regularly bc gregg popovich has more control over these niggas off the court than you would expect. in other teams its not really a common thing for coaches to hold players accountable for non basketball related things but id compare pop/the organization to a teacher/school because in a way they operate as figures of authority (similar to college-style basketball). its tougher to find spurs drama since he keeps the younger guys on a tighter leash after learning the hard way from tim duncans messy ass divorce/tony parkers cheating scandal but i assure you tea is there even tho its harder to find. i do agree with anon that sochan and vassell look like hoes but idk if we'll ever get to know that (unproven rn) side of them aside from speculation by who they follow on insta. including jeremy whos the most active on socials, all of them trained to move in silence + being a small market + tight pr means less reports but yes there is some tea and hottakes id like to spill although its not much

speaking of primo hes an ex spur but josh primo signed a new contract after joining the clippers and proposed to his (white) gf (story in attachment above). congrats her ig he has the face of a child whos balls havent dropped yet AND is a sex offender 🤷🏾‍♀️
context for everyone who doesnt know: primo was waived (even after he signed a contract extension apparently) because he flashed his ugly d*ck to a team staff member and then claimed he did it bc he had mental health issues. after primos babyface was sued by his psychologist (the woman he flashed) he was waived without so goodbye to his creepy ass. (on a personal note i really hate how "mental health" is used as some excuse for these sorts of things. like this nigga seriously thinks theres any valid excuse for flashing his tiny pp at women?? especially the woman whos job was helping out his "mental health" shit in the first place?? foh). it had way less info than an event like the kpj case but i think the lack of it is a testament to the spurs pr so there could be other stuff in the bg we as the public simply dont know abt
-
on a more positive note ik julian champangie has a gf. shes makes frequent cameos on his insta and vice versa and have been together since high school. also i dont have the link but i clearly remember another anon in an old post here claimed that sochan is bi and follows trans women but ill put that to sleep since its false. being bi isnt 100% out of the question obviously (literally anybody can be bi without us knowing. looking at you dwight.) but theres no real evidence besides: omg look he dyes his hair and has an aesthetic he must be bi!!! i think people see a nigga who has an eccentric sense of style and instantly wanna jump to label him but nawww ive seen his following on insta 😂😂 anon was confusing "trans women" for TONS of polish/british/american (all white) insta thots. hes a cutie but it wouldnt be farfetched to assume hes not into black women. yall he aint bisexual hes biracial 😂😂

unrelated: sochan rookie hazing wembanyama during the offseason was kinda funny tho

dejounte and jaina are always on and off afaik lmfao girl secured some big bags. anyways dj talking about his experience with the spurs was insightful for me. i wasnt aware before there was alot of clash between ghetto behavior and how the organization wanted him to behave but frankly im not surprised by it
-
not really gossip related but stories of irl players ive encountered:
(retired spur) i met david robinson at church when i was really young. i remember being scared of him at first cause he was so tall lol but i remember him sitting down to shake my hand and my parents taking a picture of us. its kinda embarrassing since it has the vibes of a baby crying on santas lap but funny nonetheless 😂😂
got an autograph from demar a few years back. it was quick and we didnt talk much since he had to leave after but he was cool when i asked
the only current spur ive met is devin vassell in a random encounter at the gas station (this was last yr). i recognized him but wasnt sure how he was gonna react to being approached for an autograph/photo but he was really sweet w it. i asked him where he was headed to & he said the gym but joked after that, a nap at home with his dogs lol. the names of his two dogs, iirc he told me: donovan and ace. very warm, he has a pleasant voice and smile too, if hes a longtime spur he should join our broadcast team once he retires lmao
-
thank you for coming to my sas analysis despite my team lowkey tanking right now. have a great day owner, ill go back to lurking now, god bless you.
lmao anon thank you for this, i appreciate when you guys send long asks about things you care about!! but the josh primo case was definitely something that never made much sense to me. like why would he do that? i just can’t comprehend the thought process. it was a thing here in canada and a bunch of people were talking about it cause i know people who used to play with him. it’s getting weird. idk where to start with dejounte and jania but they’re both very annoying and belong with each other tbh. & gay/bi allegations are everywhere it’s crazy. lmao this was interesting overall though

The NBA can eff itself. They've been in bed with China for years and have produced lunatic leftist coaches from great players (Steve Kerr, for a dollar).
Used to be a rabid Spurs fan. My hometown team. Drank a lot of beer at the Alamodome.
Popovich is a fruitcake and political crybaby. Don't even know who the players are anymore. Don't care .
To their credit, folks like David Robinson and Avery Johnson stayed the course. Admire them tremendously.

Today's translation #149
Kikan Esu, 2017/07
Sayo Yamamoto interview
Part 7.
I: I see. And, in the Grand Prix Final, the climax of the show, every skater skates while thinking about something special for them. I felt that: "Performing is the life of these people" and that in their skating the way of life and love of each of the skaters were visible.
Yamamoto: In case of the Grand Prix Final, I thought that I need to create a conclusion for every character. Phichit, for example, in the future wants to have an ice show, "Phichit on ICE", in his home country - the Grand Prix Final is the last episode of the TV series, but I wanted to end it with this hope that the competitive skating life of each of the competitors goes on. In other competitions, it was the same - even if Popovich lost once, he thinks about winning Russian Nationals and then competing at European Championships to show off his true abilities to get chosen as a representative for Worlds. The same can be said for other skaters - this is not the end. After the performance of each skater ends, I wanted them to be closer to achieving their goal, even if just by a little bit - it's still just a way station, but I wanted them to have a conclusion. If we talk about Yuuri, for him it was a wrap-up of the 8 months he's spent with Victor and his aim was to give a performance that would be a culmination of his figure skating life that would prove that: "It wasn't a waste [of time/effort] that Victor became my coach". At the same time, through this skating, he has found in himself this hope as a figure skater - the hope that "I am able do it even better", and that made him awaken as a figure skater. Also, his skating made Victor realize that "I want to once again skate as a competitor with Yuuri".
I: JJ's failure left a big impression on me. He really becomes one with the audience and together they create "JJ", so I think that he's very loved in a sense, but after he passes by Otabek and sees his eyes full of incredible confidence, he falters. Why did he make such a mess of himself? - I wondered.
Yamamoto: If we talk about JJ, he is sure that in the season without Victor "he's in this position where he is able to win". I think that in a state like that somebody's weakness is the most likely to be brought in to light. In addition, in the GP series, JJ has won in both SP and FS in both of his two competitions - an absolute victory. So, all conditions for his victory are met. I think that competitions when you are in that position are the toughest. This "I can't lose" is really a form of "defense", isn't it? I think that it's easier for the attackers, because they don't have any other choice, but to just do what they have to do. That's why JJ lost spectacularly in his SP, but in his FS he reset his mind and was able to perform as an attacker. Otabek very early on experienced the fact that he won't be able to win if he will just do what everyone else does, so he feels that he has to find something that only he can do, get even better at it and use it in competitions or he just can't win. He's the person that just had to do that. That's way during competitions, performances of other skaters have little influence on him.
