Anyway I was thinking of your fics and some of the quotes that rattle around in my head and then i started thinking of you and honestly just wondering what kind of books you read? Are there any (books or ffs) that have spoken to you or have meant enough to you that they’ve influenced the way you write?

ahh wow thank u!! this is so, so kind <3 <3 <3 i for sure have lots of books that have influenced my writing style. admittedly i am a very distractable reader -- i read quickly but i'll read for like 2 hours and then not pick the book up for the next year so i get through books pretty slow. i also mostly read political theory rather than fiction these days so i don't have a lot of fiction recs and i read lots of older books. but here are some of my faves:

Grapes of Wrath & Of Mice and Men (john steinbeck)

Ceremony (leslie marmon silko)

Cat's Cradle (kurt vonnegut -- but tbh i'm a big vonnegut stan generally, i'm on a mission to read all his novels which is going very slowly)

i like natalie diaz's poems

His Dark Materials trilogy (philip pullman, i read these as a kid and haven't read them since but i think they hold up)

this is not really fiction but I read a lot of Mao (especially On Practice & On Contradiction & Methods of Work), i find his writing extremely sharp and concise which i admire

Before the Law (kafka, this is the parable that appears in the ninth chapter of The Trial)
