ഇന്ത്യൻ സിനിമയുടെ ശ്രീ.. GOPALAKRISHNAN അഭിനേതാക്കളിൽ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടവർ നിരവധിയുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, craze എന്നൊക്കെ പറയാവുന്ന തരത്തിലേക്ക് ഞാൻ ഇഷ്‌ടം വളർത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളത്, വളരെ കുറച്ച് പേരോട് മാത്രമാണ്.. ആ ലിസ്റ്റിലെ അഭിനേത്രികളിൽ ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ പേരാണ് ആദ്യം ഞാൻ പറയുക.. ഇന്ന് ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ അഞ്ചാം ചരമവാർഷിക ദിനമാണ്.. ഇന്ത്യൻ സിനിമയുടെ First Lady Superstar എന്ന് ശ്രീദേവിയെ സിനിമാലോകം വാഴ്ത്തുന്നു. ശ്രീദേവിയ്ക്ക് തുല്യമായതോ അതിലേറെയോ താരമൂല്യം മറ്റു പല നടിമാർക്കും മുമ്പുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും, അവർ അതാത് ഭാഷകളിലായിരുന്നു കൂടുതൽ തിളങ്ങിയത്.. എന്നാൽ ശ്രീദേവി ഒരേസമയം വിവിധ ഭാഷകളിലെ സിനിമാ ഇൻഡസ്ട്രികളിൽ "താരറാണി" പട്ടം അലങ്കരിച്ചിരുന്നു.. First Pan Indian Superstar എന്ന് Filmfare മാഗസിൻ ശ്രീദേവിയെ വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചപ്പോൾ, "Lady" എന്ന പദം ഒഴിവാക്കിയതിനെ കുറിച്ച് അവരെഴുതിയത് ഇങ്ങനെ.. "ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ ഡേറ്റ് ആദ്യം സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച ശേഷം, (ചിലപ്പോൾ അവരുടെ അഭിപ്രായം കൂടി പരിഗണിച്ച്) നായകൻ്റെ റോളിൽ ആര് വേണമെന്ന് തീരുമാനിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു സാഹചര്യത്തിന് ഇന്ത്യൻ സിനിമ സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിച്ചത് ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ പ്രതാപകാലത്ത് മാത്രമായിരുന്നു..!" ഹിന്ദിയിൽ, ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ നായകനായി കൂടുതൽ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള ജിതേന്ദ്ര അന്ന് വാങ്ങിച്ചിരുന്ന പ്രതിഫലം ശ്രീദേവിയ്ക്കും നൽകിയിരുന്ന വസ്തുത തുറന്നു സമ്മതിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത് നിർമ്മാതാക്കൾ തന്നെയാണ്.. സൂപ്പർസ്റ്റാർ രാജേഷ് ഖന്ന, ശ്രീദേവിയോടൊപ്പം അഭിനയിച്ച ചിത്രങ്ങൾ വലിയ വിജയങ്ങൾ ആയിരുന്നില്ല. താരപദവി നേടിയ ശേഷം, രാജേഷ് ഖന്നയോടൊത്ത് ചിത്രങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യാൻ ശ്രീദേവി അത്ര താൽപര്യപ്പെട്ടുമില്ല. 1986ൽ രാജേഷ് ഖന്ന നായകനായ "Nazrana"ലെ രണ്ടു നായികമാരിൽ ഒരാളാകാൻ തയ്യാറായത് തന്നെ, സ്മിതാ പാട്ടിലിനൊപ്പം അഭിനയിയ്ക്കണമെന്ന ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ ആഗ്രഹത്താലായിരുന്നു. ഇതേ നയം അമിതാബ് ബച്ചനൊപ്പം അഭിനയിയ്ക്കാൻ ഓഫർ വന്നപ്പോഴും ശ്രീദേവി നടപ്പാക്കി. ബച്ചൻ്റെ നായികയായി, 1984ലെ ഫ്ലോപ്പ് ചിത്രം Inquilab, 1986ലെ "Aakhri Raasta" എന്നിവയിൽ അഭിനയിച്ചെങ്കിലും, തുടർന്നങ്ങോട്ട് ബച്ചൻ്റെ "one-man show" സിനിമകളിലെ വെറും നായികയാകാൻ ലഭിച്ച അവസരങ്ങൾ ശ്രീദേവി നിരസിച്ചു. "അമിതാബ് ബച്ചനോട് NO പറയാൻ ശ്രീദേവി മാത്രമേ ധൈര്യപ്പെടുകയുള്ളൂ.." എന്ന തലക്കെട്ടിൽ Stardust ഒരു ലേഖനം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിരുന്നു..! ബച്ചന���ം ��്രീദേവിയ്ക്കും തുല്യപ്രാധാന്യം നൽകി, ഇരുവരും Double Roleൽ അഭിനയിയ്ക്കുന്ന ചിത്രം എന്ന പരസ്യത്തോടെ, "Ram ki Seeta, Shyam Ki Radha" എന്ന ഒരു big budget ചിത്രം 1988ൽ പ്ലാൻ ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ഈ ഒരു ചിത്രത്തിന് വേണ്ടിയായിരുന്നു, പ്രശസ്തമായ "Jhumma chumma de de.." എന്ന ഗാനം ആദ്യം ചിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തിയത്. ആ ഗാനരംഗം അന്ന് ഷൂട്ട് ചെയ്തെങ്കിലും, ഈ ചിത്രം പൂർത്തിയായില്ല.. (പിൽകാലത്ത് ബച്ചനും ശ്രീദേവിയും ഒന്നിച്ച് ഈ ഗാനരംഗം ഒരു വിദേശ വേദിയിൽ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഹർഷാരവത്തോടെ സദസ്സ് സ്വീകരിച്ചു..) ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ ഉയർന്ന താരമൂല്യം അവർക്ക് ഇരട്ട വേഷങ്ങൾ നൽകാനും സംവിധായകർ മത്സരിച്ചിരുന്നു. Chalbaaz ഒക്കെ വമ്പൻ വിജയം നേടിയതിൽ, നായകന്മാരായ രജനികാന്ത്, സണ്ണി ഡിയോൾ എന്നിവരേക്കാൾ ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ ഇരട്ടറോൾ പ്രകടനമായിരുന്നു നിർണ്ണായകമായത്. ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ double role അവതരിപ്പിച്ച നായിക ശ്രീദേവി ആയിരിയ്ക്കണം. എട്ട് ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ ശ്രീദേവി ഇരട്ട വേഷങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. 1992ലെ Khuda Gawahൽ ബച്ചൻ്റെ നായികയാകാൻ ശ്രീദേവി സമ്മതിച്ചത്, അമ്മയുടെയും മകളുടെയും ഇരട്ട വേഷങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടെന്നും, തൻ്റെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം എത്രത്തോളം നിർണ്ണായകമാണ് എന്ന് ബോധ്യം വന്ന ശേഷം മാത്രമായിരുന്നു. "ശ്രീദേവി അഹങ്കാരിയാണ്, അനാവശ്യ തലക്കനമുണ്ട്.." എന്നൊക്കെ ചില വാരികകൾ എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.. ശ്രീദേവി നായികയായ ഒന്നുരണ്ടു ചിത്രങ്ങൾ അടുപ്പിച്ച് പരാജയപ്പെട്ടാൽ, "ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ യുഗം ഇവിടെ അസ്തമിയ്ക്കുന്നോ !" എന്നൊക്കെ അവർ എഴുതി വിട്ടപ്പോഴും, ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ ഡേറ്റിന് വേണ്ടി വലിയ നിർമ്മാതാക്കൾ പോലും കാത്തിരുന്നിരുന്നു.. നിരൂപകർ B grade പടം എന്ന ലേബൽ നൽകിയ 1986ലെ "Nagina"യുടെ ഐതിഹാസിക വിജയം ശ്രീദേവിയ്ക്ക് നൽകിയ മൈലേജിൻ്റെ തുടർച്ച, 1987ലെ Mr. Indiaയിലും പ്രതിഫലിച്ചു. ഇന്ത്യൻ സിനിമയിൽ ശ്രീദേവിയോളം comic timing ഉള്ള നായിക വേറെ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല എന്ന് അടിവരയിടുന്ന പ്രകടനമായിരുന്നു ഈ ചിത്രത്തിലേത്.. പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും ഹോട്ടലിനകത്ത് ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ "ചാർളി ചാപ്ലിൻ" പ്രകടനം. 1989ൽ യഷ് ചോപ്രയുടെ "ചാന്ദ്നി" റിലീസായതോടെ ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ താരമൂല്യം ഇരട്ടിയായി. ചാൽബാസിൽ ഒരേസമയം വില്ലന്മാർക്ക് നേരെ ചാട്ടവാർ ചുഴറ്റുന്ന മാസ് പ്രകടനവും അസാമാന്യ കോമഡി മികവും ശ്രീദേവി പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു.. 1991ൽ യഷ് ചോപ്രയുടെ "Lamhe" ശ്രീദേവിയിലെ അഭിനേത്രിയുടെ Range, എന്തുമാത്രം വ്യത്യസ്തകൾ നിറഞ്ഞതാണെന്നും ബോധ്യപ്പെടുത്തി. വളരെ പ്രൊഫഷണലായ നടിയായിരുന്നു ശ്രീദേവി എന്ന് യഷ് ചോപ്ര കുറിച്ചിരുന്നു..

"Lamhe"യുടെ ചിത്രീകരണം പൂർത്തിയാകാറായ സമയത്തായിരുന്നു ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ അച്ഛൻ്റെ മരണം.. ഷൂട്ടിങ്ങ് നടന്ന���രുന്ന ലണ്ടനിൽ നിന്ന് നാട്ടിലേക്ക് അച്ഛൻ്റെ അന്ത്യകർമ്മങ്ങളിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കാനായി ശ്രീദേവി മടങ്ങി. [caption id="attachment_385040" align="aligncenter" width="775"] Boney Kapoor[/caption] അച്ഛൻ മരിച്ചതോടെ തളർന്നു പോയ അമ്മയെ ശ്രീദേവിയ്ക്ക് പലപ്പോഴും സ്വയം ഒരമ്മയുടെ സ്ഥാനത്ത് നിന്ന് പരിചരിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു. അതിനിടയിലും യഷ് ചോപ്രയ്ക്ക് താൻ കാരണം നഷ്ടമുണ്ടാകരുതെന്ന് കരുതി ശ്രീദേവി വീണ്ടും ലണ്ടനിൽ ഷൂട്ടിങ്ങിനെത്തി. 10 മിനിറ്റോളം നീണ്ടു നിൽക്കുന്ന Medley ഗാനരംഗമായിരുന്നു ശ്രീദേവി അഭിനയിക്കാൻ ബാക്കിവച്ചിരുന്നത്. ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ അപ്പോഴത്തെ മാനസികനിലയിൽ അത്തരം ഒരു രംഗത്തിൽ പെട്ടെന്ന് അഭിനയിക്കാനുള്ള ബുദ്ധിമുട്ട് മനസ്സിലാക്കി യഷ് ചോപ്ര ഗാനരംഗ ചിത്രീകരണം പിന്നീട് ചെയ്യാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചെങ്കിലും, ശ്രീദേവി അനുവദിച്ചില്ല.. മുഖത്ത് ഛായമിട്ട് ക്യാമറയ്ക്ക് മുന്നിൽ അനുസരണയുള്ള കുട്ടിയായി ശ്രീദേവി നിന്നപ്പോൾ യഷ് ചോപ്ര അതിശയിച്ചു പോയി.. ശ്രീദേവിയ്ക്കല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊരു നടിയ്ക്കും ആ ഗാനരംഗം അത്രയും മികവിൽ അഭിനയിച്ച് ഫലിപ്പിയ്ക്കാനാവില്ല.. പഴയ ഹിറ്റ് ഗാനങ്ങൾ കോർത്തിണക്കി, ഒറിജിനൽ ഗാനങ്ങൾ സ്ക്രീനിൽ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച നർഗീസ്, മധുബാല, ഗീതാബാലി, മുംതാസ്, ഡിംപിൾ കപാഡിയ എന്നിവരുടെ ശൈലികൾ അനുകരിച്ച് അഭിനയിയ്ക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു ശ്രീദേവി ഈ medley ഗാനരംഗത്തിൽ നേരിട്ട പ്രധാന വെല്ലുവിളി. ശ്രീദേവി ആ ഗാനരംഗം അതിമനോഹരമാക്കി എന്ന് മാത്രമല്ല, പാട്ടിനൊടുവിൽ ഷമ്മി കപൂറിൻ്റെ ശൈലിയിൽ, "yaaahoo.." അന്വകരിച്ച് കസറിയ ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ പ്രകടനത്തിന് യൂണിറ്റ് മൊത്തം കരഘോഷം മുഴക്കിയതായും ചോപ്ര അനുസ്‌മരിച്ചു.. സമാനമായ മറ്റൊരു സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ ശ്രീദേവി കാണിച്ച അർപ്പണബോധത്തെ, നമ്മുടെ KPAC ലളിതയും പ്രകീർത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ദേവരാഗത്തിൻ്റെ ഷൂട്ടിങ് സമയത്തായിരുന്നു, ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ എല്ലാമായിരുന്ന അമ്മയുടെ മരണം.. (അഭിനയരംഗം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കാൻ ശ്രീദേവി തീരുമാനമെടുത്തതും അമ്മയുടെ മരണം ഏൽപ്പിച്ച ആഘാതത്തിലായിരുന്നു.) അമ്മയ്ക്ക് അസുഖം കൂടുമ്പോഴൊക്കെ ശ്രീദേവി ദേവരാഗത്തിൻ്റെ സെറ്റിൽ നിന്നും അമ്മയുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് പോകുമായിരുന്നു. ഷൂട്ടിങ്ങിനെ ഇത് ബാധിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും, സംവിധായകൻ ഭരതൻ സംയമനം പാലിച്ചതിൻ്റെ കാരണം ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ പ്രൊഫഷണലിസം ആയിരുന്നു. ദിവസങ്ങളോളം അമ്മയെ ശുശ്രൂഷിച്ചിട്ട് വീണ്ടും ഷൂട്ടിങ്ങിനെത്തുമ്പോൾ, മുമ്പ് ചിത്രീകരിച്ചതിൻ്റെ continuity, വേഷത്തിൽ മാത്രമല്ല ഭാവത്തിലും ശ്രീദേവി നിലനിർത്തി.. ആരുടേയും സഹായമില്ലാതെ.. അതേപറ്റി ഭരതൻ അന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കുകൾ, ലളിത പിൽകാലത്ത് കുറിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.. "ഞാൻ ഒരുപാട് നടീനടന്മാരെ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. പലരും എന്നെ ഭ്രമിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.. പക്ഷേ ശ്രീദേവിയെ പോലെ ആത്മാർത്ഥതയുള്ള ഒരു നടിയെ പോലും എൻ്റെ കരിയറിൽ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല..!" ശ്രീദേവിയെ കഥാനായികയായി ആദ്യം അംഗീകരിച്ചത് മലയാള സിനിമയായിരുന്നു. പ്രേം നസീറിന്റെ സഹോദരിയായി ശ്രീദേവി വേഷമിട്ട 1976ലെ "തുലാവർഷം" (സംവിധാനം എൻ ശങ്കരൻ നായർ) അവരുടെ ആദ്യകാല മികച്ച പ്രകടനങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. ഐ വി ശശിയുടെ സിനിമകളിൽ ശ്രീദേവിയ്ക്ക് പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള വേഷങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.. പ്രായമുള്ള ഒരാളാൽ (മധു) ബലാത്സംഗം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്ന കൗമാരക്കാരിയായി ശ്രീദേവി വേഷമിട്ട "ആ നിമിഷം" എന്ന ചിത്രം ശ്രീയുടെ ശ്രദ്ധേയ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. കമൽഹാസൻ - ശ്രീദേവി ജോഡികൾ മലയാള സിനിമകളിലൂടെയും തരംഗമായി മാറി.. ശിവാജി ഗണേശന്റെയും എൻ ടി രാമറാവുവിന്റേയും നാഗേശ്വര റാവുവിന്റെയും വിൻസന്റിന്റെയും ജയശങ്കറിന്റെയും ജിതേന്ദ്രയുടെയും നായികയായി കരിയറിൽ മുന്നേറ്റം ആരംഭിച്ച ശ്രീദേവി തുടർന്ന് കമലിന്റെയും രജനികാന്തിന്റെയും ചിരഞ്ജീവിയുടെയും വിനോദ് ഖന്നയുടേയും ഋഷി കപൂറിന്റെയും അനിൽ കപൂറിന്റെയും മിഥുൻ ചക്രവർത്തിയുടെയും ജോഡിയായപ്പോഴും വിജയ ചരിത്രം ആവർത്തിച്ചു. ധർമ്മേന്ദ്രയുടെയും മകൻ സണ്ണി ഡിയോളിന്റെയും നായികയായും ശ്രീദേവി അഭിനയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇവർക്കൊക്കെ ശേഷം സിനിമയിലെത്തിയ സൽമാൻ ഖാൻ, ഷാരൂഖ് ഖാൻ, അക്ഷയ് കുമാർ എന്നിവരുടെ ജോഡിയായും ശ്രീദേവി അഭിനയിച്ചു എന്നത് വിവിധ തലമുറകളുടെ കൂടെ ചേരാനുള്ള അവരുടെ മികവിന് ഉദാഹരണമാക്കാം.. (ആമിർ ഖാനോടൊപ്പം ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ ഫോട്ടോഷൂട്ട് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച മാഗസിൻ ചൂടപ്പം പോലെ വിറ്റഴിഞ്ഞതും ചരിത്രമാണ്..) മാധുരി ദീക്ഷിത്തിൻ്റെ ഉയർച്ച ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ സിംഹാസനത്തിന് ഇളക്കം വരുത്തി എന്നത് സത്യമാണ്. 1994ലോടു കൂടി താരമൂല്യത്തിൽ ശ്രീദേവിയെ മാധുരി മറികടന്നു. പക്ഷേ, ശ്രീദേവിയേക്കാൾ കൂടുതൽ മാധുരിയ്ക്ക് അവസരങ്ങൾ നൽകിയ, സംവിധായകൻ സുഭാഷ് ഘായ് Stardust അഭിമുഖത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞ ഈ വാക്കുകൾ ശ്രീദേവിയുടെ മികവിനെ സ്പഷ്ടമാക്കുന്നു.. "For me, Sridevi will remain India's greatest lady superstar & actress ever. Yes, I agree Madhuri Magic is working overtime, but she never carried a film on her shoulders.

But Sri has done it every now & then...That is the main difference between the stardom of both.." ജീവിതത്തിൽ പരിപൂർണ്ണത അവകാശപ്പെടാൻ ആർക്കും കഴിയില്ലല്ലോ.. ���്രീദേവിയ്ക്കും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു കുറവുകൾ.. പക്ഷേ അതിനെ തൻ്റെ ബലമായി മാറ്റിക്കൊണ്ട് മുന്നോട്ടു നീങ്ങിയ പ്രതിഭയായിരുന്നു ശ്രീദേവി.. ക��ുത്ത ശ്രീദേവി ആരാധകനായ ഒരു ലേഖകന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ കടമെടുത്ത് കൊണ്ട്, ഈ കുറിപ്പ് ഞാൻ അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.. "Sometimes I wish, Mani Ratnam had directed Sridevi... Taking to Instagram, the 'Stree' actor shared a couple of posts, which she captioned, "New hair!!! Like or Love???" https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch2K9HWJkbl/ In the post, Shraddha could be seen flaunting her new hair and her cute smile as she donned a grey shirt along with blue jeans and white sneakers. Soon after the 'Street Dancer 3D' actor shared her new look, fans flooded the comment section with red heart emoticons and sweet messages for the actor. Youtuber Bhuvan Bam commented, " Love!!" "you are the most beautiful person" a fan wrote. Another fan commented, "there is something sweet but not a sugar and it is shraddha smile." Remembering legendary music composer Madan Mohan on his 94th birth anniversary.

Madan Mohan Kohli (25 June 1924 – 14 July 1975), better known as Madan Mohan, was a music director of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

He scored his first big break with the film Aankhen (1950 film) in 1950. His next film was "Adaa" which saw the beginning of a long lasting collaboration with Lata Mangeshkar; who would go on to sing for many of his films. Two of his composed songs from "Sharabi" "Sawan ke maheeney mein" and the classic song "Kabhi na Kabhi koi na koi toh aayega", both filmed for Dev Anand are among the most well known renditions of the renowned singer Mohammad Rafi. In addition, his other compositions like Wo Chup Rahen To from the film Jahan Ara (1964) and Maine Rang Li Aaj Chunariya from Dulhan Ek Raat Ki (1966) are two similar examples. Madan was also able to write songs for male singers such as Talat Mahmood (Phir wahi Sham, wahi dil, wahi tanhayee hai, Main Teri Nazar Ka Suroor Hoon and Teri Aankh Ke Aansoo from Jahan Ara, and Meri Yaad Mein Tum Na from Madhosh) and Mohammad Rafi (Ek Haseen Shaam Ko from Dulhan Ek Raat Ki, Kisi Ki Yaad Mein from Jahan Ara, Main Nigahen Tere Chehere Se from Aap Ki Parchaiyian, Aap Ke Pehlun Mein Aakar Ro Diye from Mera Saaya, the all-time haunting Meri Awaaz Suno and Tumhare Zulf Ke Sayen from Naunihal, Teri Aankhon Ke Siva Duniya Mein from Chiraag as well. Madan did not usually employ Kishore Kumar. Nonetheless their partnership created songs as well; in this category fall songs such as Simti Si, Sharmai Si from Parwana, Zaroorat Hai, Zaroorat Hai from Manmauji, the title song from Ek Muthi Aasman, Mera Naam Abdul Rehman from Bhai Bhai, and Aai Hasino, Naazanino from Chacha Zindabad. Madan often collaborated with lyricists Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, Kaifi Azmi, and Rajinder Krishan, Sahir Ludhianvi and Majrooh Sultanpuri for his movies.

In 1957 he came out with a film named Dekh Kabira Roya in which the legendary singer Manna Dey gave his voice to the melodious Kaun Aaya Mere Man Ke Dwaare and unforgettable numbers like Tum Bin Jeevan Kaisa Jeevan in the film Bawarchi. In addition to that, he had Lata sing Tu Pyaar Kare Ya Thukraaye and Meri Veena Tum Bin Roye numbers, and he used Talat Mahmood for the song Hum Se Aaya Na Gaya in the same movie. Once in an interview Manna Dey recalled that Madan Mohan asked him to take special care when singing Kaun Aaya Mere Man Ke Dwaare.

A film scored by Madan was Chetan Anand's Haqeeqat (1964), starring Balraj Sahni and Dharmendra and based on the Sino-Indian War of 1962. In it, he used Rafi, who sang numbers like Kar Chale Hum Fida, Main Yeh Soch Kar. Lata was used for the song Zara Si Aahat Hoti Hai and the unscreened " Khelo na mere dilse". And the same film saw Rafi, Talat, Manna Dey, and Bhupendra singing Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bhulaya Hoga. Bhupendra appeared on the screen as well for the first time, much before he established himself as a playback singer. This song is also the only song in which four top-rated male playback singers have put voices together in a song. In 1966, he again paired with Lata Mangeshkar for Mera Saaya.

Madan Mohan's venture was Raj Khosla's version of "Woman in White", titled "Woh Kaun Thi?". This film has three Lata solos ('Naina barse rim jhim rim jhim', 'Lag ja gale' and 'Jo humne daastaan apni sunayee') and a Lata duet.

The late fifties, sixties and the early seventies were the most productive period in Madan Mohan's career. His songs from those decades include compositions for films like Adalat, Anpadh, Dulhan ek raat ki, Mera Saya, Dastak, Hanste Zakhm, Heer Raanjha, Maharaja, and Mausam, among many others. His second last bow was for a film released five years after his death, Chalbaaz. In 1970, during the changing times of western music he gave music based on ragas for Rajinder Singh Bedi's Dastak and won his only 1971 National Film Award for Best Music Direction. Its songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar are still considered her finest.

His legacy wouldn't be complete without mentioning the ghazal he composed for the movie "Dil Ki Rahein" - "Rasm-e-ulfat ko nibhaein to nibhaein kaise". The shayar(lyricist) for the ghazal was Naqsh Lallayalpuri and it was sung by Lata Mangeshkar. It is considered as one of the best songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar, ever.

Madan Mohan's son Sanjeev Kohli recreated 11 of his late father's unused compositions for the soundtrack of the 2004 Yash Chopra film Veer-Zaara. Later on, Kohli brought out an album "Tere Baghair" which contains some of Madan Mohan's songs.
