I saw your prompt/headcanon request for Cecily's/your birthday, so I decided to start again my campaign of annoying other authors to the point if writing Cecily-Grace mother-daughter moments or one shots just to make me shut up ahah

the way this request was worded just made me cackle so of course i must oblige it for my dearest fellow author

Cecily Lightwood was a most intimidating woman, Grace thought the very first time she was presented with meeting her.

She is Aunt Cecily, Grace reminded herself. It was still an odd thing to think, let alone say, that this woman was family. That most of the adults in the next room were family. Gabriel Lightwood was not Gabriel Lightwood but Uncle Gabriel. Gideon Lightwood was not Gideon Lightwood but Uncle Gideon. And Cecily and Sophie Lightwood were her aunts.

Jesse had been able to grow used to referring to them that way much quicker than she had. It was fitting, she managed to convince herself, since Jesse was related to these people by blood. Grace was related in name alone. She had to tell herself that rather frequently.

Cecily Lightwood intrigued Grace from the start. She was a small woman, only slightly taller than Lucie was, and strikingly beautiful. On more than one occasion Grace had spotted Gabriel--Uncle Gabriel--staring after Cecily with an affectionate gaze that bordered pure adoration. It was painful to watch.

"Grace?"

Grace blinked herself out of her thoughts and looked up from the stairs. She hadn't realized how long she'd been sitting there, but it had to have been a while, for she now realized she could not feel her bottom.

Cecily Lightwood stood before her at the foot of the stairs, looking at her with an expression Grace could not quite figure out. It was not a look Mama had ever given Grace. It was not even a look she could recall Mama ever giving Jesse, either. It was almost-- comforting.

"Are you all right, Grace?" Cecily asked. Her hands were together just above her waist, where her skirts began to bellow out. Grace was drawn to the glint of a metal band around one of her fingers. What an odd custom that was... "Grace?"

Grace's hands fluttered in her lap. No matter her thoughts, no matter the harsh realities she'd faced in the past year, her mother's teachings were hard to break free from. "I am very well, thank you."

She had thought herself rather convincing, but when Cecily's expression did not change, Grace felt bothered. This woman did not believe her at all.

Instead of accusing her of being a liar, or threatening to bring her brother or uncles out there to coax the truth out of her, Cecily stepped forward and sat herself down on a step that was several below the one Grace was seated. Her movements were elegant, and Grace remained in awe.

Cecily gave Grace a gentle smile. It was a smile she'd seen her give to little Alexander and the others before offering them council or some other kind word. "Is there something you wish to talk about? You look as if you've done quite a bit of thinking."

How did she know that? Grace tried with all her strength not to betray the surprise she felt. "I--"

"You needn't discuss anything with me that you do not want to," Cecily added, though her tone was not scolding. It almost made Grace spill every thought she'd ever had. "But I do wish for you to know that I am here should you need anything. You're still a child to us--your uncle and I--even if you are growing into a lady. If there is something we can do for you, no matter how small, I do hope you'll share it."

Grace did have a desire. Unimportant, small, ridiculous desire that was likely not at all what Cecily was referring to, but when the words came out from the women sitting on the lower steps, it was the first request she thought of and she'd nearly burst into tears at the idea.

She balled her hands into fists, unflinching at the sharp feel of her nails digging into her palms. "Is it unfair of me to ask for a hug?" she whispered, unsure if she'd even actually spoken aloud. Grace could not bear to look her aunt in the eyes. "Like the ones you give your children."

Aunt Cecily said nothing. For a painful moment, Grace wondered if the woman had left. But just as that fear crept in, warm, gentle arms pulled her into a careful embrace. It was immediately comforting and felt safer than any other place Grace had ever been.

"It will never be an unfair request," Cecily said to her, and began to brush Grace's hair with long strokes. Sobs bubbled in her throat, painfully seeking release like the tears that had spilled over from her eyes onto the cotton of Aunt Cecily's dress. "I am happy to honor this request at any time, Grace."

It was then, Grace realized, that this is what a mother's love was meant to feel like.

ELIAVA HEADCANNONS

May 2024 is too far, and the delusion preservation is imperative.

Eli listens to classical music just for Ava.

Ava sometimes sneaks into the library at the King's mansion just to swipe a book or two that she may have seen Eli reading. Other times, she bribes Creighton.

Eli is practically adopted by Silver the moment Elsa reveals his little crush (privately, of course) on her daughter. It does not stop Cole from throwing jabs at him whenever he comes over to hang out with Aunt Silver and to spy on his girl.

During their childhood, they've been locked together by their friends/siblings/cousins in the same room/closet plenty of times.

As a sign of rebellion against her parents, Ava once dyes her entire hair pink. The mortification hits her soon after and she refuses to talk to anyone until one text, one silent drive to the salon later she's sharing her snickers bar with Eli as a form of thanks.

Eli always leaves an anonymous bouquet of pink roses (her favorite) for Ava before her recitals in her dressing room. It's the only sign that he attends her recitals at all (Eli has attended every single one of them).

Whenever Eli goes AWOL, only Ava knows he's hiding in the library in a dark nook that has space behind the shelf just enough for two people. Sometimes, she joins him. Other times, she lays her head against his shoulder as he reads in the quiet.

All the teasing garnered from her friends due to Eli's attention suddenly stops one day. Becomes more...cautious.

Eli swears he had nothing to do with it and that he would never threaten them (he's lying, he nearly makes Remi cry).

Ava, like her mom, also writes journals where a lot of pages have Eli's name written, circled, crossed and scribbled out.

For prom, RES hosts a masquerade theme but every single boy in the school is terrified to ask Ava to prom. Glyndon decides to go without a date as well and Cecily flies in to join them. Both friends pretend not to notice Ava dancing with a masked stranger on the dancefloor at midnight.

Eli never stays longer than five minutes at any of Ava's birthdays/sometimes she never finds him at all, but she always finds his gifts in her room.

Ava has a jersey with Eli's number on it that Cole secretly swipes out of her closet to burn but gets caught by Silver.

Ariella is Eli's partner-in-crime.

After Eli leaves for University, Ava shows up at the King's mansion under the pretense of hanging out with Elsa but it's just to sneak into Eli's room and look at all his awards and trophies longingly she does not miss him.

When they finally start dating, they are met with long-suffering sighs, "finally"'s and "took you guys forever."

Ava drops little hints of herself wherever she can find a place for it. Scrunchie on his gearshift. Perfume bottle on his desk. "Accidental" kiss mark on his collar. Her ring on a chain around his neck.

Ava makes Eli watch all the chick-flicks she can because she's appalled when she finds out he hasn't watched Mean Girls.

"BOo, yoU wHoRE" - Remi says, sitting next to Cecy, Glyn, Annika and Ava wearing a facemask matching theirs.

The moment Cole opens the door to see his daughter and King's spawn standing together, hand-in-hand, the first thing he says is "No"

And it's final, too. No amount of convincing from both Silver and Ava seems to work.

When he finally comes around and they all sit down for dinner, they have a "Daddy, can you pass the salt?" moment after which Eli is chased out of the house by Cole and his gün.

Eli sneaks in thru the balcony into Ava's room anyway. Both Ariella and Silver know and choose not to tell Cole.

Eli's only saving grace with Cole is that Eli would kilI for his daughter or die trying and Cole wouldn't want any man willing to give anything lesser for his Ava.

he was the son of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig and Princess Eleonore of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich. Georg married Princess Cecilie of Greece and Denmark, in 1931. They had three children: Ludwig, Alexander, and Johanna.

Georg Donatus and his family tragically died in an airplane crash in Belgium on November 16, 1937, while en route to London for the wedding of his brother, Prince Ludwig. The crash claimed the lives of Georg Donatus, Cecilie, their two young sons, and Cecilie’s unborn child.

Cecily Brown's work you just have to see in person i feel... like i saw Can Can (1998) in person at a museum on my birthday a year or two ago and it's SO fucking big and vivid as you look around it more and more new faces, new bodies, disjointed body parts appear... you never get bored i just wanted to stare at it all day it's unreal. pictures just do NOT do justice to her pieces and their details you have to go see it and fall into it

what hc you have of Wills birthday post cp2?

oooh this is such an interesting question, thank you for this! i think the first few birthdays post cp2 are really hard for him with jem being gone, but i like to think that tessa and cecily (with the help of the rest of the tid gang ofc) make sure that there's always something planned for that day, whether it be some outing or a small party at the institute. with that being said, i do think jem shows up and they spend an hour or two together just them, even though he's not technically allowed to do that. then when james and lucie come along, i think they really brighten up his birthdays because they're always excited to celebrate and they make him personalised gifts like drawings of their family and birthday hats.

1325 – Day 4 – Townsend Farm

As 1325 draws to a close, both sets of Townsend twins celebrate their birthdays. Hurt feelings and the last remnants of distance between them can’t keep Malika and Benjamin from reminiscing how quickly time has gone by. Their hasty marriage seems like yesterday, and yet, the children borne from their youthful foolishness are already thirteen years old and nearing adulthood. It defies belief.

And yet, so much has happened. They have created a family, an entire household full of children. They have lost children, too – little Duncan, and Joan. And their other relatives – Edith and Helen, and William and so many of their acquaintances. But they have managed to rebuild their lives, and they have managed to survive Malika’s ill-fated dalliance with Clement Dudley.

It is difficult not to become closer again when remembering all they have suffered through together. All they have overcome.

The children are glad to see their parents gradually become more affectionate again, although they are wise enough – even the younger ones – not to comment on it. Only Malcolm is a bit hesitant. He is glad that he doesn’t have to fear his parents’ ill-humour anymore, but he fears the prospect of more younger siblings. His sister doesn’t seem to mind helping with little Edwin and Cecily, but for his part, he can’t be elsewhere fast enough when he hears either of them begin to wail.

Benedict, too, is slowly getting older. His hair has started to grey, and his fingers get a little slower while working on his carpentry. He is fifty now, a respectable age for a peasant. Especially one that has been through a famine.

But he still enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and prays he will get more years to see them grow and to support his son’s family. As glad as he is that Malika and Benjamin have overcome their difficulties, he is sure that new challenges are just beyond the horizon.

But for the moment, despite the struggles of a long winter, the Townsends are well – and ready for spring!

But the question or questions I have are.

1. What's his element or power?

2. Will we find out why he left?

3. Was he born in it or taken? (Can't remember if this was talked about) 🤔

sorry to bring up character ages in tid again, but i wanted to run a theory by you about something i discovered.

in chapter 1 of clockwork princess, tessa is being fitted for her wedding dress and she says this: “he would look so young. they were both so young. tessa new it was unusual to marry at seventeen and eighteen, but they were racing a clock.”

clockwork princess takes place in september/october (i think??) of 1878, and their wedding was supposed to be in december. what i’m thinking that tessa must be older than what cc has told us (in both the family tree and the “new” canon she established with the 10th anni of ca). based on the quote, we can probably assume that tessa is either already seventeen when clockwork princess starts, or will be turning seventeen sometime between then and december. which assumes jem’s birthday is somewhere in there as well. so will and jem being born in 1860 is probably correct, but tessa was probably born in 1861.

Bottom line: cc can’t even keep her own canon straight XD. im gonna try to write my own time line to try to make sense of it sigjdnd.

Waait a minute. Wow.

So, yes. Tessa's birthday is said to be January 28, 1862. Clockwork Princess takes place from October to December, which means Tessa is sixteen and turns seventeen in January 1879, which is still a couple months away from the supposed wedding.

I guess they didn't have any confirmed dates of birth before the 10th anniversary edition of Clockwork Angel, just the birth years, but I found this part with Charlotte and Jem in Clockwork Princess, chapter 13 "The Mind Has Mountains":

You are still a child, Charlotte wanted to say, but she did not. He was only a few weeks short of his eighteenth birthday, after all, when Shadowhunters became adults, and if when she looked at him she still saw the dark-haired little boy who had arrived from Shanghai clutching his violin, his eyes huge in his pale face, that did not mean he had not grown up.

Which, of course, goes along with the whole

“Yes, though Charlotte’s rather fallen off in tutoring us lately, as you might imagine,” said Will. “One either has a tutor or one is schooled in Idris—that is, until you attain your majority at eighteen. Which will be soon, thankfully, for the both of us.” “Which one of you is older?” “Jem,” said Will, and “I am,” said Jem, at the same time. They laughed in unison as well, and Will added, “Only by three months, though.”

part in Clockwork Prince which takes place from July to August, but the rest of what was previously discussed gives the idea that they both have already turned seventeen in 1878, especially when juxtaposed with Gabriel's and Nate's ages and the rest.

Otherwise it does work that Will is born in late December and Jem's birthday is in November, other than that whole mess with being "three months" apart in age. But the language is weird, Tessa won't be marrying at seventeen no matter what, though Jem' would've recently turned eighteen.

Will telling Cecily that:

“You can’t be married, Cecily! You’re only fifteen! When I get married, I’ll be eighteen! An adult!”

Will turning eighteen a week or so after that Christmas when he proposed to Tessa works in that context as well. Though they apparently married two years later in March 3, 1880, according to the bonus content.

Though not exactly on topic, I want to point out that in said bonus content, Will thinks that "It wasn’t strictly a Shadowhunter wedding, because Tessa wasn’t strictly a Shadowhunter. But Will had decided to wear wedding gear anyway, because he was going to be the head of the London Institute, and his children would be Shadowhunters" though, at least according to the comic, James' conception was such a surprise because they didn't know if Tessa as a warlock could have children. And James was born in 1886, six years after the wedding.

Anyway, it's still a bit of a mess because, though some parts do fit, other parts of the text seem to have been written in another frame of reference in any case.

The timeline idea sounds fantastic!
