uwaaaugghhh I had a dnd session and it's not going great for my character. They're a divine soul sorcerer aasimar who were brought up at a monastery, but ran away from it to be able to aid people all over the world (the monks wanted them to stay put while they saw the need for their assistance far and wide). Right now their mission is to stop a necromancer from destroying the world. We're on a time limit and the battles have been deadly, we've even had a player character death :'(
During our previous session we had to receive a key from a highly ranked demon, and although one party member was ready to offer their soul for it, we were careless with our bargaining and the final offer was my soul or no deal, and a fight which would've been insanely tough. I chose to take it for the greater good, but it meant that my character was no longer free (which is one of their core values and needs), and their connection to the divine was now tainted by the demon's ownership of their soul.
In today's session they found out about a way to get out of the deal, but it meant selling their soul to a demon of a higher rank, who gave their people(?) more independence. At the same time they’d turn into a fiend and get a stats boost. I refused at first, but it was brought up again and both the NPC's and the other players encouraged me to take it, since they wanted to see what would happen and they thought the better stats would be worth it. I was curious too and it started to seem like a good idea, so I went ahead with it. As soon as my aasimar turned into a fiend, a planetar and two devas of peace appeared to kill me, as I had betrayed them.
INSTANT REGRET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We fought them and won. My character didn't hit them once, at first I ran and then I buffed the party who would've died without the extra help, because I could not hurt them directly, and now another one party member is forever marked for killing angels :I
I'm having some conflicting feelings about it. One on hand it's cool to get to play through these big moments, and they'll be memorable for sure! On the other I'm sad I went though with it, because it hurt my character so much.
#my nonsense#dnd#the dm and other party members have a pretty carefree and chill attitude towards playing#and tbf i knew i'd turn into a fiend#and i had the option not to take the deal#so i can't blame anyone or anything for these decisions#maybe i should've spent more time going over it#but also it's a game and not that serious and yadda yadda#it's more interesting when you throw your character into these situations#but it still hurts#and i think i'm taking it harder than they would which sucks too#cause i'm grieving a lil while they're like 'that was badass' or 'why'd you go through with it if you don't like the changes?'#kinda cracking jokes about it
