I just got an insanely similar ask right before this one, and I will say the same thing. this is insanely true.
Corlys only backed Rhaenyra and her bastard children because he was desperate to get even a figment of his name near the throne. he only backed Luke and Jace's parenthood through Laenor as it was the only way to "get his blood" on the throne (even if the boys were not truly his, 'history only remembers names').
if Laena had been queen and had children to Viserys, he would have abandoned Rhaenyra the second Jace popped out with brown hair, he wouldn't have even waited for Luke or Joffery to be born.
Rhaenys backs her husband just as much as she wishes to further their shared bloodline, so it would be easy to say she would similarly back Laena's children. we saw her push for Baela and Rhaena to take the claim to Driftmark despite hating Daemon, imagine if Laena's children were born to the thrown through Viserys? she would similarly back Laena and drop Rhaenyra in a heartbeat.
I would even argue they would support Laena prior to Rhaenyra having children and would potentially avoid wedding Laenor to Rhaenyra to begin with (as it would serve them better to marry him to another house to create an ally instead of marrying him to Rhaenyra where it would have little benefit)
the war would be insanely quick and easy if Rhaenyra had attempted to petition her and her childrens claim, she would have no allies and the realm would more than likely drop their oaths.
those TB fans are so delusional sometimes, that their terrible takes only serve to damn their girl more than she already was.

Hi!
Just saw you reblog that post about Thorin and physical touch from me with your thoughts, and I wanted to say I’m not trying to tone police anyone, or virtue signal, or anything like that at all, really! I just thought it was an interesting take, is all. I really enjoy reading other folks headcanons, and I think however anyone wants to interpret the source material, films *or* book, is completely fair enough. Truly, I just really love seeing all the variations that people come up with - it’s one of my favourite parts of fandom!
Anyway, I’m sorry if it upset you, or if my reblogging it made you or anyone else feel attacked - that was certainly not my intention! (Parasocial relationships are weird, but I've been following for a couple years before my last blogged was nuked and I know what a force for positivity you are in this fandom.)
I am coming from a humble place, but unfortunately my writing style is "condescending, stuck up" so bear with me. I don't mean to sound like a butthole when I write.
These anti-dark-Thorin takes get reblogged by all the popular bloggers in the fandom. I'm never personally offended by them, just exasperated because I think it's almost an auto-reflex people aren't really inspecting very closely. We ARE all anti-censorship, right? We're not, like... passively encouraging totalitarianism, yeah? Not even accidentally by reblogging posts that discourage a negative depiction of a character in favor of a positive one, right? RIGHT!!!??? (insert padme and anakin meme)
All of this could have been said without invalidating those people who write dark-Thorin. That's ONE of the main points I want to make here. Love romantic, heart-melting, chivalrous, not-bigoted Thorin. Promote him. Write about him. But don't make him the standard. That's not reality.
Maybe because of the shades-of-grey character that Thorin is, it's caused people to come out the gates in defense of him. And I love all the ways in which writers have enriched his character by leaning into or creating positive qualities so it's easier and more satisfying to enjoy him and Bagginshield. (So that's its easier for Bilbo to put up with his ass lololol.)
I think it's wrong and a terrible disservice to, as I said, imply that people who explore the dark side of Thorin misunderstood the source material. Or to discourage creativity. "You're not playing in the sandbox right!" No, it's just I'm writing a Game of Thrones AU, and you're doing The Princess Bride AU. Neither is wrong just very different.
I know, @conkers-thecosy, your intention was not to do what I have described above. I don't think its the intention of MOST authors to repeat censorship-y rhetoric. I just don't think a lot of Hobbit fandom writers are inspecting this at all because they feel very strongly about a negative depiction of Thorin.
I have a great deal of admiration and respect for you @conkers-thecosy and nearly ALL the writers I've seen do this. I'm not mad at anyone. When I'm writing in my own voice, though, I can be what others have called "spicy". Blunt, direct, er... rude? That's not my intention towards you or anyone else in this fandom in regards to this issue. I'm sorry if my reblog was overly-aggressive.

Hi! I found your blog through the female rage substack article that you posted and I’m curious about a couple things (so I hope the tone of this ask will read as genuine/non-confrontational etc).
I really liked the article and the anti-gender essentialist content, so I looked through the others and eventually found your jegulus article (which I read and also liked) but I was sort of surprised to see that you are a part of the hp/marauders fandom. For me personally, everything related to that franchise has just been tainted since the whole jkr terf debacle really took off. I was big on hp when I was younger and wolfstar is a ship/dynamic that I enjoyed back then, so I’d probably like your stuff if I were to read it. But I decided some time ago to give any and all hp content the chop, because to me it didn’t feel right to engage with it anymore. So I was just wondering how you feel in that regard, if you don’t mind sharing. I don’t have anyone in my internet content circle that still actively posts about hp and if irl friends still enjoy it then it’s not something we talk about, so I’d just like to know how you juggle the ‘two sides’ in that sense of your trans-positive/anti-essentialist beliefs and fandom content that’s still so intrinsically connected to jkr and her politics. (Also, sorry if you’ve answered a question like this before. I scrolled through your blog a bit, but if yes then not far enough.)

so, quite honestly, i'm in agreement with you that the entire franchise is tainted by jkr. the truth is that it was never really my intention to join the fandom--i read a single fic because it went viral on tiktok, then decided to rewrite the fic from another character's pov just for fun. at that point, i hadn't read any other hp fic and had never been involved in any kind of online fandom space, and although i'd read the hp books + watched the movies growing up i hadn't touched them in years + was so far removed from the franchise that i vaguely remembered hearing jkr had said some terfy stuff, but wasn't aware of the extent to which her politics were like. actively and significantly causing real-life harm.
anyway, i'd done a rewrite for fun of another story i liked and had posted it on ao3, and that had received a handful of people commenting + talking about the story with me as i wrote but had remained pretty self-contained + small. i was expecting the same sort of thing with the hp fic i rewrote, but instead someone posted about it on tiktok and it went viral, and then suddenly there were thousands of people reading every ch update and hundreds of comments. like i said, i had never been involved in an online fandom space before, so i sort of awkwardly stumbled into it and tried to figure out what i was doing as i finished up writing the fic. this was at a point in my life where i'd recently moved to a different country and had to go back in the closet after being publicly out for years, and this online fandom space became my only queer community and a bit of a lifeline in that way. i started making actual friends and talking to people + getting more deeply involved in the community aspect of things.
at the same time, i started actually educating myself on jkr + her politics + her impact, and the more i learned the more uncomfortable i became with being part of anything hp-related. now, i've been writing hp fic for almost two years and 'active' in the fandom for ~one and a half, and despite being grateful for the friends i've made and treasuring the space i've been able to cultivate, i've become increasingly disenchanted with 'the fandom' as a whole and have increasingly found it to be a hostile space, so i've sort of taken a step back from broader engagement and more + more have limited my interaction to just my mutuals here on tumblr. unfortunately, i think many of the 'bad parts' of this fandom are somewhat built-in because of the source material; there are a lot of people who agree with jkr's politics to varying extents and that can make it kind of a miserable place to be sometimes. i know many people insist that hp can be completely removed from jkr, but i don't think that's the case, and i've talked on my blog before about the fact that her politics are built into the very foundations of the text, so i think it's necessary to acknowledge her influence if we want to actually engage with hp at all in a way that isn't just perpetuating her politics.
all that being said, the point i'm at currently is that i'm not really sure that this fandom is a space i want to be a part of forever. again--i understand how it can be lifeline for some people and a queer community they might not have elsewhere, because that's been the case for me. but for me personally, as much as i value my own carved-out space, it doesn't completely outweigh the negatives that i have found myself coming into contact with more and more in this fandom. writing hp fic is also something that i keep strictly separate from 'real life,' contained solely in this online space, because i know that any engagement with hp is a red flag for many, many trans people and i don't want to bring it outside of this space. within this online space, i don't keep it a secret that i write hp fic; it's right at the top of my blog so that anyone who wants to can easily block and unfollow me. i only post my fics on ao3, where they are clearly tagged as harry potter fanfiction, and i only post about hp fic + fandom stuff on this blog, which was specifically created for that purpose. i've requested that people no longer post about my hp fics on platforms like tiktok where the algorithm could send it out onto anyone's fyp, and that request is also in my pinned faq. keeping my hp fic as contained as possible to only people who are already engaging with hp fic is one way that i try to mitigate any harm that might be caused by my fics contributing to hp's ongoing popularity.
the other ways i try to mitigate potential harm are by actively discouraging people from giving any financial support to hp + jkr and by being very vocal about my politics on this page, so that anyone who is following me will be getting pro-trans and anti-gender essentialism politics along with any hp engagement. i also don't engage with hp uncritically; i am specifically critical of the shitty politics in the books both in my posts on this blog and my fics themselves. i don't make it a secret that i think the books are politically rotten all the way down through to the foundations.
none of this is to say that there's, like...a Right Way to engage with this content or a set of rules that, if followed, Absolve All Shittiness. this is just an explanation of the personal evaluations i've had to weigh when it comes to deciding how i'm going to interact with content that is fundamentally opposed to my own politics. and again, i don't blame people who think that any amount of engagement is morally untenable and completely block it out. this is a growing source of cognitive dissonance in my own life, and i'm increasingly considering whether/for how much longer i want to continue to write fic + be involved in hp fandom. but for the time being, i'm still here + still writing fic, and i guess my feeling is that any harm that fic causes is a drop in the bucket, and even if i were to stop writing it wouldn't necessarily have a huge impact either way. i'm just some random guy online like everyone else; even though i talk about politics, that doesn't mean that i'm asking to be held up as some sort of moral standard, nor do i think anyone should be expected to be 100% politically perfect in every action they take--like, for me, writing hp fic kind of falls into the same category as like...eating mcdonalds even though i think factory farming is fucked, or buying + wearing makeup sometimes even though i think the beauty industry is fundamentally corrupt, or paying to see the new guardians of the galaxy movie in theaters even though i think marvel movies are us military propaganda. i don't think "no ethical consumption under capitalism" is an excuse to completely abandon any attempt to mitigate the harm our actions might cause, but it does matter to me the way in which someone is engaging with a fundamentally broken/corrupt piece of media beyond simply whether or not they're engaging at all. at the end of the day, it's up to everyone on their own to evaluate where they draw the line on hp, and i am not looking to make that judgment for anybody else considering that my own thoughts + feeling about it are still changing.

I've written about this before, but I do think one of the reason some people want to believe that art and fiction do have this 1:1 impact on reality is that they want to believe that art and fiction can make effective educative propaganda. Note that when I talk about propaganda, I'm using it in a value neutral way. Propaganda can be good or bad, depending on what it's propagandizing, how, and by whom. Propaganda is an argument being made with a goal. Agitprop is an important part of educating people about important things. But fiction and art based in fiction have limited persuasive and educative power because it's fiction and narrative based, and people know that. Also it's difficult to make a good piece of art persuasive where people know exactly the point you're making without knocking them over the head with it and therefore making a shitty piece of art. Good art leaves room for interpretation and allows people to bring their experiences to it and take what they will from it. So I could try to write a story about how capitalism is destroying the environment, but I can anticipate a lot of peoples' takeaway being "humans are destroying the environment" or "It's because the bad guys are greedy, if better people were running the companies, this wouldn't happen"--very much not the points I would want people to take away from the story, but it's inevitable because it's a piece of fiction that allows for multiple interpretations. None of which are wrong just because they're not the point I wanted to make. Once you put art out into the world, it becomes everyone's. Everyone's to interpret and process and enjoy however they will, and none of them are wrong. That's why I feel that fiction is not effective propaganda or education, and fiction can't have the impact on society that antis claim it can. Even when you have fiction that's trying to be pro-state and pro-capitalist propaganda, I feel like antis have the cause and effect backwards. Maybe they imagine that the cause is the fiction and the effect is living in a capitalist military state, but I'd argue, the cause is living in a capitalist military state, and the effect is that the state is funding fiction that attempts to manufacture consent for said state. What ends up happening in fandom though is that people of all ideologies take those characters and plotlines and play with them like dolls and inject whatever feelings and experiences they want to for fun and catharsis. Which is as it should be.

SAMMY/EDDIE "SKATE" HUNTER (Streets of Rage)
okay, so, on one hand i think he could handle it and would maybe even arguably find the rudie lifestyle fun - i mean he beats the shit out of mr x's evil criminal organization by breakdancing, he's definitely got the style and goofing off points for it.
BUT ON THE OTHER HAND….. his brother is a cop (later a government agent according to the wiki), and he and his ex-cop friends are all ultimately pretty anti-crime overall (beating the shit out of mr x's flunkies with your fists does not count as a crime). so maybe if he went through a really heavily rebellious phase he'd think about it but otherwise i think this is Not happening.
also i thought he was like 10 which might've also be a problem, but now that i'm looking it seems he never got a confirmed age so where the hell did my brain get THAT number.
SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG (Sonic the Hedgehog)
OHH this is a very very tricky one and i think also depends somewhat on what point in time we're talking here. the first thing that feels notable here is that shadow comes off as a pretty grim self-serious guy a lot of the time and tends to keep to himself - however, he also DOES have friends he cares deeply about (i dont care what sega says) and tends to enjoy being the coolest guy in the room. it'd also probably do him some good to have an artistic outlet for his inner darkness.
that being said, i feel like he'd find the GGs and the other rudies to be petty and juvenile (dude, you're like mentally 15! you're basically younger than the youngest GG!); and on top of that he's working pretty closely with G.U.N. which kinda makes him part of the establishment, right?
however. there is a window of time that i think shadow's odds of joining the GGs is actually very likely, which is during the era around his self-titled game. shadow is at his most lost and confused at that point (i mean you saw how many story routes there were.) and i think if he met the GGs then they would be all totally like "hey dont let people push you around into who THEY tell you you're supposed to be, make your own path" and it would emotionally resonate with him and there'd be a cool end cutscene where he's like "I… am Shadow the Hedgehog. Once born to be the ultimate lifeform, now one of the GGs. I paint my own destiny. This… is WHO I AM." and awesome credits music plays. hope you liked my shadow fanfic
PAINT ROLLER (Kirby)
are you fucking kidding me of course he would, no hesitation. he was pretty much BORN for this. maybe he'd have trouble getting the GGs to take him seriously on account of the fact he is a funny little circle, but hey the GGs let anyone join if they are cool enough at skate tricks and i think paint roller could pull it off. also i think being a funny little circle would make paint roller better at avoiding consequences.
HOWEVER. i do think that paint roller tagging up the city would eventually have dire consequences due to his art's tendency to come to life. like im talking like the streets crowded with all sorts of random creatures and objects and stuff, kirby has to show up to save the day, it's a whole Thing.
YUICHI "ICHI" TAIRA (Paranoia Agent)
fuck no, never in a million years. ichi is a Perfect Little Straight A's Golden Student Who Everybody Loves and frankly he's furious that you'd even imply he'd consider turning to delinquency. he'd probably regard the GGs as selfish attention whores who only cause trouble because they're too pathetic to get anyone to like them. it's NOT FAIR that you're confusing ICHI with that brat beat just because they both wear golden skates!!!
i think though that in a direct confrontation he'd actually be pretty scared of rudies, cuz like, ichi is only about 13 while even the youngest GG is 16. he'd totally want to tell them to their faces how worthless they are and how they're ruining everything for everyone with common sense, but instead he'll just call the cops on them.
SHOUNEN BAT/LIL' SLUGGER (Paranoia Agent)
Uh. Well . if you know his deal already then you probably already know the answer is "I don't think that would even be fucking possible". like can you IMAGINE. but even certain details about his nature aside, i think he's just plain too malevolent for the GGs, though.
(now, a certain spoiler character, on the other hand. i honestly don't think he'd try to join the GGs. but i think he theoretically COULD'VE and if he did i think it would have been MUCH better for him than what he actually did.)

Okay for real? I don't think it's a conscious thing, but it's cultural Christianity at play. They want to redeem him.
Also, I think he's an easy character to project your own trauma into, since he's so incredibly defined by being a traumatized character. Hell, one of the (albeit many) reasons I like Jason is that I relate to him having a complicated sometimes antagonistic sometimes I can't imagine leaving him behind sometimes I need him but don't want him in my life relationship with his father!
Important to both of these is that while every member of the batfam has a buttload of trauma, Jason is the one who wears it most blatantly on his sleeve. He practically refuses to get better. Personally, I think that makes him a really interesting foil to Bruce, who also refuses to get better.
Dick eventually worked through the issues he had with Bruce; Tim didn't really want to be part of the family in the first place, but has accepted that he's a part of it by now; Cass overcame both her father and her mother (I believe, since unless any of you are going to send her Batgirl run to me I'm working off random panels online); Duke is dealing with his parents pretty healthily as far as I can tell? (again, new to DC comics y'all); and even the actual angry Robin, Damian, has chilled (a little) and learned to become a better person, developing genuine friendships with his peers and the like (he's still an insufferable little brat, but most 13 year olds are).
Bruce and Jason, however, are tidally locked. Neither of them can change or the narrative ends. Bruce can't get better because if he did he would stop being Batman; Jason can't get better because if he did he would stop being Red Hood.
Where was I going with this?
Oh yeah, deeply traumatized Jason.
Because Jason being traumatized is such an essential part of his character, it's easy for writers to project their own trauma onto him - especially if that trauma is related to abusive families, but I've seen a lot of stuff that simply isn't in the source text being explored through Jason, especially SA.
And even if you don't project onto him - uh, well, yeah, he's attractive. Both literally, and in the sense of being an attraction that people want to read and write about. He's interesting! He's an anti hero! Ask anyone, anti heroes are the shit. Just look at the popularity of the fratt tag under daredevil (tv). Or Deadpool and anything related to him.
Which is where the cultural Christianity sets in. Because you've projected onto this character, but you wouldn't do that! Or you like the idea of an anti hero, but actually letting one remain an anti hero... Well, I like him, therefore he must be good!!! Time for a redemption arc 💜
I've seen this for years as a veteran Deadpool and spideypool fan. This is by no means universal. Plenty of people are capable of liking an anti hero for whatever reason (projection, he's narratively interesting, he's so fucking hot) and not forcing them to go through a redemption arc where they realize killing is wrong/stop killing for some other reason. I've certainly reblogged a lot of meta for Jason in recent months showing I'm not alone in enjoying him as a character who does kill.
But yeah. Sometimes the things we like and the things we believe don't match up, and for some people that's not a problem, but for others it is, so they fix it. Too bad they usually miss the whole point of Jason's character in the process.

(to clarify: I am not that previous anon) The cannibal!will fandom is a really interesting phenomenon to me since it's being introduced to a fandom that's so very against anything 'out there' or 'nsfw' in any capacity, and since it's something that a lot of people are uncomfortable with (but I also see a lot of defense for it) it's getting a lot of push back. Stranger things is relatively gory and is still technically a horror/thriller (even if it's real silly sometimes) so to me it makes sense to lean into that as a fandom, but they also definitely have sexually charged scenes/hints of sex without making it too explicate for their audience and it's just like, basic, expected, normal sexually active human stuffs. Nothing crazy, nothing kinky. Just. Sex basically (pretty common in these types of shows esp teen thrillers, and even though it's there I appreciate they don't go overboard the way a lot of teen dramas try to play it up and that's always been weird to me, I digress) but even though it's there (just like the horror/gore/thriller aspect is canon and very real themes in the show) for some reason nsfw is still very frowned upon (I'm specifically talking about consensual relationships/aged up characters/adults content here that's still getting a ton of hate) to the point nsfw artists/writers are pushed out of the fandom as a whole, and it kinda feels like people are trying to do that in the instance of cannibal/will as well. It's really disheartening and I guess I'm a little jealous of the nice little pocket of 'freaks' /pos you've helped curate. Purity culture has destroyed curiosity and experimenting in a safe space such as fandom and it's weird af. Fandoms have been pivotal to a lot of people finding themselves and trying new things in safe spaces and I just don't understand how the Stranger Things community is this really weird staunchly anti-sex community, esp when the show itself is just. Not that? Never has been that? ISN'T that. (which I guess with how people be out here viewing Mike the way they do, what can I expect) This isn't a 'kids show' and I GET that there's a lot of kids in the fandom (but it's also definitely not just kids pushing people out of the fandom) but there's no age limit to this show and there are tons of people in different age brackets consuming this show and it's just weird how violently against curating your own content and consuming what YOU want to consume is so frowned upon. Sort of like... Just cause I'm in the Stranger Things fandom doesn't mean I want to see all the ships so I can just. Block them! People tag for a reason. There's no reason people should be dictating what can and can't be put on someone else's blogs, and people are so rude, and make uncalled for comments as if they have any right to tell you how to participate in fandom how YOU want to on YOUR OWN BLOG. It drives me crazy. This fandom is so very uppity and act like if you don't like exactly what they do then you're wrong and should feel bad and aren't allowed to be a part of the fandom at all, and I'm just tired of it. Sorry for the long rant. This isn't like... sorry if this comes off wrong. I'm not trying to attack you at all lmao I know how you feel about nsfw so sorry to come to you about it. It's just you always are so respectful and understanding that it's like, not your thing! And that it's ok to not want to view certain things! And I appreciate that a lot. Everyone is in their right to not want to consume certain content and that's totally understandable (esp when it doesn't line up with your personal beliefs or sexuality or anything like that) but you're not out here going to peoples blogs calling people shitty things for enjoying their fandom the way they want to. it is,,, a very nuanced topic. and while i do understand why there's a lot of debate surrounding the topic and i do respect a lot of the arguments for and against the concept, i think the main takeaway from all you said —from all the conversations i've ever seen about it— is that newer fandom members need to learn to curate their online experience.
the tools are there. they're not that hard to use. if seeing something sexual is upsetting to someone, it is relatively easy to avoid it both in ao3 and in here. if someone wishes such content didn't exist, it is quite easy to mute some words and blogs and voilà, it's like it actually doesn't exist !! there's no need to make big posts condemning the morality of content tropes one doesn't enjoy in fandom spaces, and there is absolutely no reason to go attack people who do engage with such content and are just doing their thing (which is a thousand percent worse than anyone creating anything "weird" >:\ ).

and the same goes for the dark stuff i enjoy (like cannibalism and all that). if someone doesn't like it they're free to block me,,, or if they don't want to do that but still don't want to see it, they can just block out certain words or my handy "dark byler agenda" tag. it's easy, it's there, and people need to remember to utilise such tools to cater the stuff they see to their taste ~
(and if they really wish it didn't exist, they could also drown it out by supporting stuff that doesn't have such tropes via reblogging and actually engaging with things, which the fandom as a whole often forgets to do -_- )

Personal Review (02/13/23)
The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic
Summary
Neil Josten loves nothing more than Exy, a relatively new sport that's taking the world by storm. So much so that when the infamous Palmetto State Foxes offer him a spot on their team he accepts, even though the spotlight is the last place he should be. With a vengeful mafia boss father on his trail and teammates that seem more suited to psych wards than the court, it's not his best decision, but it may turn out to be worth it in the end.

God, the plot of this book. It's so hard to explain. Neil ran away from his mafia boss father, The Butcher, with his mom years ago. She died in their initial escape, and he's been friendless, homeless, and miserable since. Despite knowing his father in hunting him down, Neil makes the excellent decision of playing for the most infamous Exy college team out there. Sakavic really sells how obsessed he is with this sport because literally any sane person would be out of there, especially considering the way his teammates treat him.
Anyway, most of the book is Neil trying to figure out his teammates while training his ass off while also realizing he's in much deeper than he thought. This book reads less like book one and more like part one as pretty much...nothing happens? And yet everything happens because these people are crazy and somehow Exy is well-known for being primarily enjoyed by members of the mafia. The mafia part of the story seems to serve one purpose: making it feasible that the most batshit insane things happen in the lives of fancy lacrosse players. For example, major character Kevin Day used to play for the Ravens with his adoptive brother Riko, who happens to be a part of the yakuza. Riko breaks Kevin's hand and Kevin escapes to the Foxes where most of the conflict is caused by his history with Riko and the Ravens. When I tell you people are getting drugged, murdered, and threatened on live television, I am not exaggerating. It has virtually no coherency, but at least it's fairly compelling. Bonus points for a crazy development at the end.

Neil, the main character, is an absolute idiot. It is somewhat forgivable by the virtue that the story makes no efforts to make him seem like anything else. He's an Exy-obsessed fanatic who is willing to risk exposure and all the implied torture to follow to play on a college team that isn't even that good—in fact, they're infamously bad. While I liked the (crazy, twisted, toxic) relationships he was building with the other characters, I wish he had more autonomy instead of just doing what the other characters demanded of him.
Speaking of, not all the batshit in this book comes from the mafia; Andrew Minyard is sometimes more antagonistic than they are. Constantly on anti-psychotics (going off them will get him thrown in jail), in a codependent relationship with Exy superstar Kevin Day, and has a habit of drugging people to get them to spill their secrets, Andrew is one of the craziest written characters I have ever encountered. He does so much morally reprehensible stuff that he'll do something only morally questionable and it's like he's saved an orphan. Same thing as the plot; not very well written but interesting nonetheless.
Completing the trifecta is Kevin Day, Andrew's constant companion. He's the catalyst for most of the conflict in this book, and he was apparently childhood friends with Neil, who is now obsessed with him, almost as much as he is with Exy. The three of them are a recipe for disaster, but it's the kind you can't tear your eyes away from. Do with that what you will, because even I'm not sure how I feel about it. I will say that each character seems to have a distinct, clear personality; it was rare I got characters mixed up. Even Andrew and Aaron, identical twins, are very easy to distinguish.

This book is self-published and, unfortunately, it shows. As crazy and attention-grabbing as the plot and characters are, it can't hide the mediocre, sometimes outright bad, writing. In fact, sometimes it exacerbates it. With how this book jumps from shocking moment to shocking moment and the fluctuation between incredibly slow and almost-too-fast, it's jarring and not entirely enjoyable for the reader. It feels like Sakavic wanted to write a bunch of different tropes and set-ups, and instead of writing a few different books she decided to shove them all into one. The character backstories in particular feel like trauma upon trauma just piled on top of each other, leading to a list of trigger warnings a mile long. As such, the whole book feels very cobbled-together and poorly written.

Would I say I liked this book? Probably not. Am I intrigued? Absolutely. Despite the writing being not very good at all and a plot that is held together by the most frayed, worn strings of logic in existence, this is an attention-grabbing book. In all honesty, I will never recommend this series to anyone ever because it is truly bad, but I will probably read the rest of the trilogy. Why? I really couldn't tell you. I am undeniably interested in this book, mainly the character relationships. However, I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone. So concludes the most chaotic review I've ever written.

I've finally seen it: The Girl with All the Gifts
This week, for my sixth and final blog of my I've finally seen it series as part of my Sunken Place: Racism, Survival, and Black Horror Aesthetic course, I decided to tackle my favorite film of the quarter: Comm McCarthy's The Girl with All the Gifts (2016), a post-apocalyptic zombie film where an organization of soldiers and researchers try to find an antidote using variant children, including Melanie, a little black girl who is the main character.
I'm not usually a fan of zombie films, but I loved this one. For me, it's a highly effective horror film as it scared me right from the start when we first see the children react to the smell of blood, which finally makes us understand why they are tied to chairs and brings us to the central element of the film, namely the zombies, known in this film as the Hungries. The first zombie attack scene was also terrifying for me, with the zombies coming from behind the lab glass and little Melanie's escape through the camp, which looks like a real war battlefield. I can't forget the scene where a Hungrie pushes a pram, and Dr Caldwell discovers a rat eating the baby's corpse. I am indeed sensitive to the sight of cadavers, so I was shocked to see the corpse of Soldier Kieran completely devoured after we had grown attached to his character for his kindness to Melanie.
Kieran was trapped by the hungries children, which I found very interesting. Indeed, they were communicating and organizing their activities. I was also fascinated by all the lore surrounding the zombies: their speed, rapid transformation, the fact that they can't smell humans thanks to the ingenious Blockergel, or that babies eat their mothers from the inside out.
I think these details make the film so good, like the constant imagery and symbolism of the cat. In fact, Melanie is initially comforted in her cell by an image of the animal, which she places on Professor Justineau's window at the end of the film to give her courage as their roles are reversed. Dr Caldwell also asks her to respond to the paradox of Schrödinger's cat, which is supposed to be both dead and alive, but which Melanie describes as intelligent and, therefore, as having saved itself, reflecting her situation of confinement and eventual escape. Finally, the black cat (symbol of misfortune) is the first animal we see Melanie hunt, and I found it very funny that she replies, "I've already had one," when Professor Justineau asks her if he wants a cat, referring to it as a pet.
Added to this is the notion of suspense, which I also found very good in the film, as in the scene where they have to go through all the Hungries without making a sound, or the one where Melanie is particularly hungry and goes hunting, leaving you wondering if she's going to go after Kieran. I also wondered right up to the end what the ending would be, what Melanie would do.
Finally, as part of my course Sunken Place: Racism, Survival, and Black Horror Aesthetic, I established several links with the black cause. First, Hungries children are discriminated against like black Americans: marginalized for being different and objectified, "They behave like real people," which implies that they are not real people. They are also referred to by numbers, while Melanie, ever polite, calls them all by their first names. Moreover, like some black people, to be accepted, she behaves irreproachably, putting herself at their service, bending to their rules herself, as when she decides to tie herself up or keep the anti-bite mask on, even though she can take it off easily. I also analyzed Professor Justineau, who plays the familiar role of the fragile white woman who is not allowed to touch black people at first, here, Melanie, and later of the white savior when she takes Melanie's side. Ultimately, I enjoyed seeing the diversity of this film, with black characters in positions of strength like the soldier Kieran and especially Melanie, a brilliant little black girl who chooses to save herself and her community, the Hungries children. It's satisfying to see her refuse to play the role of the Sacrificial Negro, saying, "Why should we die for you?". She will also put an end to the superiority of humans, of her oppressors, with a phrase that I loved to Sergeant Parks and that could work in a conversation in the context of the fights for human rights of a black man to a white man: "It's not over, it's not yours anymore." This is when you feel a real sense of retribution.

Ooh this seems so good I love it! And I'm really excited for OOTS to see all their character development of what they think about power and the world around them paying off as they really shake the world. And with Dovewing thrown in as StarClan's chosen to course correct them (is this an idea you got from my AU post a while back, where I mentioned a similar thing and you liked it?), but if she's anything like canon not particularly wanting this role, things could get even more interesting...
I'm really interested to hear about the one-on-one dynamics portrayed in the first three books, I really admire how much focus you put into the nuances of individual relationship dynamics between characters. Also I agree the prophecy is most interesting when it is about agency, but I also really hope you preserve the element of "unholy agency", the way the Clans see the stars as their most powerful guiding light and some mortal cat with the power of them is unnatural and terrifying to your average Clan cat. The framing of the prophecy that we got at the beginning of the series with Firestar being terrified in the prologue but never really got followed up on.
Also I would love to hear about Jayfeather's shift towards being more peaceful. You made it sound like this isn't something he starts out as, which makes sense, in canon his younger self wants to take advantage of his powers to let WindClan suffer form the dogs for ThunderClan's benefit, I always thought that would be interesting to see how it played out without Firestar boringly making everyone act moral and not letting our protagonists be the anti-heroes they deserve... so with Firestar gone in your version I would think it was interesting if Jaypaw actually got his way, and the results catalyze his shift in demeanor to being more peaceful than his siblings. Maybe something about how he initially wants to direct his power and ambition towards helping ThunderClan at all costs like a "good Clan cat should", but begins to be disgusted by the hurt that causes and simultaneously realizing his ambition extends far beyond that, he wants to understand a power and knowledge and spirituality far more universal than any one Clan's goals. Not to mention unlike his siblings who are just spoiled and held up as future heroes by their Clan, Jaypaw has a more complicated and bitter relationship with them, he's still part of a Special Family but also treated with condescending ableism. So a medicine cat role with its universality, neutrality, peacefulness, and ability to explore spirituality (including a cover to explore subversive spirituality with the power that no one questions he really is holy) would start to really appeal to him. The author's statements like "why is Jaypaw blind" make it clear they were trying to go in canon for Jaypaw genuinely enjoying the job but avoiding it due to pride and "if I do the stereotypical disabled cat job this would be letting the ableists win so I have to tell myself I like the normal cat job", which the books did a bad job at because they never let him come to that realization himself... but this could definitely be a tack you could go for here. He directs his ambitions to winning ruthless victory for his Clan because that's the expected thing and the way to prove them all wrong + he doesn't want to be anywhere near Leafpool's den with her condescension and complicated feelings, but in the end he is both too kind for that and he realizes patriotism is not the ultimate expression of dignity and power, in fact it is far too small-minded for the likes of him...
Hey because it's been an obsession of mine since I was a kid and I know you are the fandom's premiere Power of Three Understander who gets the nuances of the three's brattiness and lust for power (writing compliment not criticism) and how the prophecy originally (pre-OOTS) is not about them being chosen good guys fated to be good and save the day but is much more mysterious and ambiguous than that; how are you planning to handle the whole power of three prophecy plot in Haneossia? I really trust you to handle it well and better than canon and most fans, and while I thought Bonefall's "prophecy just doesn't get revealed in PO3 keep is slice of life" is a very sound tactic to handle it I'd also love to see a take on the three knowing it all along and it influencing their psychology. How will you integrate its "external from StarClan" source to all your expanded afterlife/spirituality lore, what is the in-universe reason why the prophecy exists, etc.?
As a side note I have mentioned it once before, but once in a PO3 and OOTS rewrite/AU I made when I was a lot younger and scrapped because I wasn't as good of a writer back then, I had this plot beat that I still think is one of the only good parts of it now. Basically after spending half the arc wondering "why are we so special, isn't it awesome we are so special, and having a lot of mystery with the Ancients and the tunnels and Sol wanting to accomplish some ritual that will give him great power from that, the big reveal is that the powers weren't bequeathed to them, but came from the Three themselves - in an alternate timeline, Jayfeather with his insatiable curiosity and ambition had gotten his equally motivated siblings to investigate the secrets of the Ancients and they completed the ritual themselves, but due to tunnel time loop shenanigans the result was that they altered the timeline so they were always born with those powers. And there was also a bit of a twist on the "blind seer" trope here, where Jayfeather's powers are specifically what they are because he chose them, motivated by what his internalized ableism would think is necessary to "make up" for what society has told him is inadequate. Also Fallen Leaves here was someone who died trying to accomplish the ritual for great power, it never made sense in canon that any society would have a mandatory coming-of-age ritual that according to the stick like half of the participants died in. So just throwing it out there as an idea/brainstorming...
This one ask got me vibrating in my seat. Gosh, I just have SOOOO many ideas on how I wanna do Po3. It's not at all fully figured out as a lot of the Haneossia stories I want to write out in full first are elsewhere in the timeline. But it is such a central arc to pretty much everything I have in my head because the Po3 characters are always so central to the things I wanna write.

Starting from the top! The exact nature of the powers is always something that eludes me. I will have to mull over your proposal and see whether or not I have other ideas. But narratively I do know what their role is. It is a fantastical highlight of an already existing character trait of self-importance.
The three are the children of two prophecy cats, one of which is the deputy/leader and comes from the ThunderClan old aristocracy, and the other of which is the daughter of their most famous leader in recent times and sister of their current medicine cat. I go back and forth on whether I want Brambleclaw/star to be deputy or already leader in order to really inflate their self importance, but one thing I'm absolutely committed to is that Firestar is dead, Brambleclaw is taking the secret of his involvement in that to the grave, and the mythologizing and distortion of the Firestar story has already begun.
The Clans as I write them are to their core nepotistic. Looking out for one's family is priority number one, and that only extends to the rest of the Clan under an understanding that all the different families and nest units are linked in a web of relations. Thus, the kids are (correctly) expecting to be bigshots from the day they are born.
The prophecy says there will be three with the power of the stars in their paws. It really doesn't say anything about what they do. "Power of the stars" I interpret as a statement about agency. They will be in a position to be able to make a big decision that will define the destiny of the Clans. And the role of this arc is to build up suspense for when that eventually comes to the foreground in Omen of the Stars.
I don't necessarily would call this a slice-of-life story, but it is certainly a very personal-scale story. And I don't think that is at odds with the idea of building suspense at all. With the knowledge of the prophecy, every step of getting to know these kids and how they grow up is progress alongside the plot.
Oh, and even though this is more of an OotS thing, on the point that being one of the three is about agency, I feel very strongly about Dovewing NOT being one. Her powers would ultimately be from StarClan, but she would be their course-correction mechanism. I will talk more about this towards the end of this post, keep that in mind.
NOW! Onto my thoughts book by book!
Since I last did my reread of the arc I have been thinking about increasing the book count from 6 to 7. This is because I want the structure of the story to be 3 books establishing the trio dynamic of the triplets and their three 1-on-1 relationships, have a middle book based on Outcast where we can have them all extensively interacting with Breezepaw, and the final 3 books as story arcs that center each of the triplets individually and in contrast to Sol as a foil to all of them.
Book 1 would of course be the Hollypaw and Jaypaw book, focusing on the career swap plot. A crucial point in this one I'd want to do is to lengthen the time span it takes over. In canon, this book cannot take more than a month and the two of them only were in their careers for a week tops. This gives the impression they gave up way too early and I'd be on the lookout to expand the timeframe with their original mentors to about one to two months.
I am unsure about how I want to approach their career swap so that Jaypaw can have more agency. There's many approaches to it, from presenting it as a competition between the siblings to having a slower buildup of Jaypaw sticking his nose in things that don't concern him. In theory I like the idea that he'd chose this career path as an adult, but for all the chess pieces to be in place in time for Sol's appearance that is not an option.
Meanwhile Lionpaw has a sideplot of some sort developing in his third of this book that has him getting acquainted with the cats across the border. Set up for the next book and start acquainting the audience with the extended cast of characters that will gain relevance but which neither of his siblings would have much reaosn to interact with such as Onestar, Crowfeather, Heatherpaw, Breezepaw, Tawnypelt, Rowanclaw, and Blackstar.
Like in canon, Jaypaw learns about the prophecy of the three by the end of the book and is holding on on telling his siblings. Depending on how I decide how his plot with Hollypaw goes, he may or may not be on good terms with her, so that's his reason for not telling her. With Lionpaw I don't have a solid reason. Perhaps it has to do with the ableist attitudes he has picked up growing up in ThunderClan?
Book 2 is a Lionpaw and Hollypaw book. Much like in canon, their parallel conflicts would center on the fact that they are both meeting with a cross-clan friend when they aren't supposed to. I want this plot to serve to reinforce in them this very war-monger tendencies that they show throughout early Po3 which will contrast with Jaypaw who is softening (will touch on that in a bit). And I also want the ending to end in some way in which Lionpaw is convinced that Heatherpaw betrayed her such that he has a vendetta against her developing, as opposed to how Hollypaw's break with Willowpaw is more melancholic.
On Jaypaw's end, I want to move the entirety of the time travel plot to here instead of splitting it into book 2 and 4. He would not stumble on it on accident but rather seek it out as he investigates this prophecy of the three deal. That way we can really dive into the full extent of the past life memories thing and really explore the society of the ancients at the lake.
Two very important changes I'd make here are: 1) Jay's Wing is blind too. I really want to emphasize this society as one in which a disabled cat like Jaypaw would have more autonomy and respect. This will set him on the path to wanting to remake his own society in this mold and will be a motivation going forward. 2) These are memories. I don't want him creating time paradoxes or making things weird. He's there squarely witnessing these things from Jay's Wing's PoV, which would be a full character on his own which would contrast to Jaypaw.
If Hollypaw and Jaypaw weren't on good terms by the last book, this would be the book where they reconcile.
The third book I'm the most hazy on as it would be a completely new addition. But given it's meant to be the Jaypaw and Lionpaw book, perhaps this could be the book in which we have Cinderpaw's broken leg plot? It would be cute to have Lionpaw more involved here and give them some romantic buildup. But also, since this plot also brings up Clan attitudes towards disability and Leafpool and Jaypaw's attitude clash over it, we can maybe address how Lionpaw too would be dealing with Clan cat ableism.
Hollypaw I'm more unsure where she fits into all this. Given that Haneossia operates under my pfurr dynamic/default polyamory worldbuilding, she can tie in to the Cinderpaw plot too maybe? These kids would be dating age for sure by this time, and I like the idea that by the end of the arc Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Cinderheart would have had plans to form their own pfurr as a throuple, which was dashed once Honeyfern died (making it very rude of Cinderheart to leave her birth nest since that would leave Poppyfrost and Berrynose as a couple, which is socially frowned upon) and then Hollyleaf escaped into the tunnels.
I also want Hollypaw's plot here to have some independence though so I'm not sure if that would be too tied together. Decisions, decisions...
Regardless, by the end of this book their dynamic as a trio would be set. I would want Jaypaw to reveal the prophecy and his findings so far here. Each of their individual ambitions, ideas of what power means to them, and such would be explored from here on out.
The book based on Outcast gives me trouble, given I'm not a huge fan of The Tribe of Rushing Waters and I frankly don't want to write about them if I can help it. This is perhaps the biggest plot of theirs I want to preserve and the one reason I am reluctant to just exercise author fiat to erase the Tribe entirely. But the narrative frame of having the triplets go out on a journey and interacting with Breezepelt is juicy. I really want the contrast of golden children and black sheep between them to shine in this and for this journey to somewhat quench their self-centered attitudes.
By the end of this I want them all to connect deeply as friends, despite the antagonism and struggles to get there. I want Jaypaw to see in this proof that his plans to turn back the clock would be worth it. I want Hollypaw and Lionpaw to revisit and rexamine the lessons learned in book two. I want Breezepaw to latch onto them as if they were the littermates he never had. (And perhaps by extension to Brambleclaw as who he wishes his father was? Hmmm... I have a new idea to contemplate.)
Breezepelt, Hollyleaf, and Lionblaze would be named by the end of this book. They'd all be around a year old by then, leaving Jaypaw as the only apprentice as his apprenticeship is supposed to be double length. I want the fact that legally his siblings would be adults now but not him to bring out in him a sense that he ought to hurry and figure out how to use his power for his objectives lest his siblings get too ahead of him.
This brings us to book five, the equivalent to Eclipse and our first look into Sol. The focus character of this book would be Lionblaze, and here is why I want book two to establish a stronger vendetta against Heathertail for him to have. These last books would all be about the central character facing a temptation from and ultimately overcoming Sol as he tries to rope the three into being his minions.
Sol's temptation to Lionblaze would be revenge. While they were gone he's been wandering around Clan territory, trying to poke and prod as he tries to sow chaos for his own amusement. I am unsure about his exact nature here or his motivation. I could take a page out of Bonefall's book and present him as a trickster god type. But the specifics of his worldbuilding around the afterlife don't mesh well with mine, I feel.
But regardless, he's been egging on conflicts between the Clans and there's a palpable sense in the air that war's coming. In the midst of this Sol is encouraging Lionblaze to use the opportunity to exact his revenge. He's offering advanced intel and a way to be as destructive as possible to her. Does he coax the information of his vendetta out of him? Did he pick it up during his time with the other Clans? Does he have supernatural knowledge of it? Open question, still need to decide.
Anyway. His "defeat" of Sol, loosely as we can apply that term, would be in him showing clemency to WindClan in the midst of the chaos. As the battle settles and he reflects on his power-given strength and ferocity, and just how close he was to inflicting an atrocity, he understands just a little bit more what Jaypaw is always on about with his peace-seeking attitude.
Sol's take-over of ShadowClan by the end of the book by leveraging the eclipse segues us into the next book, which is going to be Jaypaw focused. Through his eyes we see Sol's fake prophet act in full force, with Jaypaw aiding as a collaborator. His position as a Clanborn meddie gives his endorsement weight, even as a mere apprentice.
I want his arc in this book to be about learning to wield his authority as a priest responsibly and for Sol to come across as his evil grown up version. Sol's idea of reshaping a Clan to his desires is very self-serving and self-indulgent. And it would definitely come into conflict with a Jaypaw that seeks to pursue his own agenda but is shut down repeatedly.
We would still have the plot with Tawnypelt being a refugee in ThunderClan and her kids aiding the three in toppling Sol, with Jaypaw as their inside informer. (Remember how I said Tawnypelt and Rowanclaw were going to be relevant characters for the story many paragraphs ago? Here it is.) And by the end of the book, Jaypaw would finally have his name.
Last book! There's a lot of field to cover in here. Fire scene, parentage reveal, Ashfur's death, Hollyleaf's search for answers. I feel like it can be cramped but with a Hollyleaf-only perspective it can work well, I believe. Hollyleaf's challenge in overcoming Sol would be to resist the temptation of easy answers at the cost of starting yet another war.
Much like canon, I want a wracked with guilt and overwhelmed Hollyleaf to end up self-exiling after she escalates it so much. A win that feels more like a loss and that permeates the rest of the next series.
As a coda to the arc, by the end Lionblaze and Jayfeather would disown their connection to Firestar and try to push the prophecy out of mind. I want them to connect with Brambleclaw/star and his side of the family as they shun Leafpool and Squirrelflight. Have Hawkfrost and Tigerstar begin appearing from this moment, leveraging their familial connection the siblings are increasingly seeking refuge in to put their plan into motion. This is the point by which StarClan decides to intervene by means of Dovewing. And so the stage is set for the next chapter.
What is the nature of the OotS plot? I cannot say anything with certainty. I still have a lot to figure out, especially in how my afterlife plot affects and molds it. But as far as Po3 is concerned I think I have enough figured out that this shape of a plot is very set.

i'm only 2 islands in to frontiers (like literally just cleared ares island today) and i'm having soooo much fun. i'm not great at games so the cyberspace segments are sort of my least favourite part cause i find the majority of them really hard to control and navigate but they ARE still fun. tbh the 2D/sidescroller ones are my least favourite. anything with a locked camera is just complete hell for me. i have this problem with every sonic game i've played (WHICH admittedly isn't many bc i was afraid of games as a kid but i'm working on it LOL)
the overworld is INSANELY fun though. i already posted about it but i did start getting frustrated with ares island because it's so easy to fall into a gorge and get stuck in there or think you're going to right way and end up face-first with a ledge or cliff but i finally made it out with a 100% map so i'm satisfied. i'm really at a point where i want to advance the story i want to see the whole game but i also don't want to have to progress and have to leave the overworld behind because i love just bebopping around as sonic so much AND I FEEL THAT WAY KNOWING THE ENTIRE REST OF THE GAME IS JUST THIS
also enjoying the story! i think it's handling itself well so far. i am however not much of a deepthoughts thinker and am easy to please and also have not finished the game yet but i like what i'm seeing. amy's focus on singular kokos in need and the focus on her core themes of love and passion are good. i diiiid feel a tiny bit like she was being held back though, but that's probably due to the nature of frontiers' setup and how sega are overall trying to push her character in a same-but-different direction. she can't really fight or anything... i really like how knuckles' side and main story beats read HE HAS INTELLIGENCE AGAIN!!! HE AND SONIC HAVE FUNNY BANTER MIXED WITH BEING BROS AGAIN!!!! AAAAHHHHHHHHH
i Was perplexed by the HEAVY koko war angle for knuckles though, even with it being contextualized in text. knuckles just isn't really a war guy to me. but then again... he led the resistance in forces, so...? is that why? man. i really expected waaayyy more focus on the "hey there was an entire group of people here and now they're just Gone" angle and i feel like it got cut too much with The War. but like... the war plays in to the "they're gone" thing, it was present in amy's too, so...
ok well i'm just an anti-war guy at base so i guess i'm not being fair to it the same way as me being anti-cop makes the sonic movies a little not fun for me LOL. i'll see what they do with tails soon enough...
OH ALSO. THE EGGMAN IN THIS GAME. HE IS SOOOO EGGMAN HE'S A STRATEGIC ANALYTICAL NERD GUY IN A SONIC GAME YAAAYYYYY i know that that's due to him being taken off the playing field and contained to cutscenes and the little egg memo things but i;m OOOOOOOOOUGHHH and the humanization given to him via his dynamic with sage... and Sage...... mwah mwah i just KNOW they're going to explode me with that later on in the game's story MWAH

you're right, it's absurd. i think the fact that it's non-canon might be part of why it's so controversial, though. bear with me because i'm just gonna type through my thought process here.
the hate is all coming from one place, the popular ship. i'm hesitant to name it because i don't want to cause more problems or hurt anyone, and i genuinely feel no ill will towards the ship or the shippers, but we all know who i'm talking about. i just want everyone to know i'm not vaguing, i'm just trying to responsible.
that ship is extremely unlikely to become canon. even if it weren't mlm, it's subtle and coming in too late in the game. if it were to become canon in the final season, it would be confusing and alienating to a large part of stranger things' non-fandom viewers (the vast majority of the viewership). i just can't see it happening.
(to be clear, i would be delighted to be wrong about this. it's not my ship, but it would be a pretty wild move of the duffers to pull in the last quarter. i love spectacle. AND even if it never becomes canon, i don't think that makes it any less valid. one of the great joys of shipping is that it moves past the extremely limited canon and into the endless expanse of what could be.)
however. it is possible. possible in the sense that both characters are still alive. there's even a compelling case for one of them being intentionally queer-coded. i know that to the shippers, the set-up and tension between them is very real. if i put myself in their shoes, if i imagine being intensely invested in something so precarious, it's easier for me to see how we got here.
edssy is just such a clear threat. or, it would be if she weren't dead. it's so cliche and obvious and exactly the kind of ship tv execs and casual audiences understand and could get behind. it could become canon in a heartbeat. there are 0 societal/social forces working against it, but it still gives the feeling of being transgressive or novel. it's perfect. hell, the duffers have said in no uncertain terms that they missed out on something with edssy. if (BIG IF) chrissy were to come back somehow, edssy would be practically inevitable.
i think that's the crux of it, whether the antis are conscious of it or not. there's a real 'shutupshutupshutupshutup' kind of energy coming from them and i think this is why. strangers things has brought back dead characters. the duffers and joe and grace all see the potential and enjoyed playing in that space. the more attention edssy gets, the more free they are to re-open that door if they want to.
just like the other ship, edssy is extremely unlikely. however, if chrissy comes back, it suddenly jumps to being all but guaranteed. the antis who are deeply invested in their ship becoming canon need her to stay dead. and every drop in the edssy bucket makes it a teeny tiny bit more possible that she won't.

You know, as someone who absolutely adore Levihan's deep bond I'm so tired of logging in to diffrrent platsforms and seeing antis spreading lies about our ship. Like I'm so so sick of them claiming "Oh you levihands never consider Levi's cold answer to Hanji after they literally saved him" or "didn't you see how he rejected them in the forest? How do you call his 'unrequited love toward titans' line as a confession of love?" So much invalidating, so much hate. Almost feels like they don't have a life other than slandering what other ppl like. Sometimes this fandom makes me even more exhausted than I am by my daily life. Sorry if I sound like a pessimisst. Was just here to vent as I consider u as a logical person. Tc!

Yeah, I feel you, ya know. So you can come vent when you need! I know how painful it's to see something you've loved for a long time is not simply badmouthed, but actively being used to "ship shaming" us.
Unfortunately, 99% of the time that LH is slandered it's not a matter of honest or sincere people (either shippers and neutrals) picking canon material and presenting another view that could not match what we have seen in the same canon material, or with the Japanese translation helpers (that we love). If it was with honesty reading, it wouldn't be slander at all, just a fair viewpoint shared to make people think, as everyone can do metas explaining viewpoint here and there.
But what seems to happen in the ship wars (that involve multiple Levi x whoever character ships, but NOT all shippers in them) is that 99% of the slandering over LH is done by the darker and loudest set of people within the multitude of Levi-X ships, and they are fueled by pure disgust, hate, and the simple evil intention to mock us to protect their ship. To do this, they purposefully pick the things that are special or fun to us, and twisted them in horrible ways that make us seem lunatic to the whole AOT fandom! And also, there are always some non-shippers that just hate AOT in general now, and they just like to increase the chaos between shippers because it seems fun as hell to them. (*sigh*)
Like, something pretty SIMPLE that caused an uproar of Levihan slandering: the mercha rings fun we had joking that Levi and Hange had married and all, playfully saying that they were canon, turned out a weapon in their hands to say we are "so obsessed and desperate to force they canon". And it escalated until they settled down after getting their own mercha promo where it shows Levi's and Erwin’s rings in the same hand of a person. And then they stated they were canon!
I laughed so hard because this part of the AOT fandom is crazy haha
We all know that merchandise is pure SHIP BAIT to attract money for their sales, so our plays and jokes and fun with them is supposed to be just this: WE ARE HAVING FUN! So why when it's the LHs enjoying these silly things, we are the crazy, the dummies, the stupids ones, but when other ships do it it's okay, and cute, and CANON proof? LOL
God, there are so many clowns in this fandom!! And as you said, they just like to heat things up because there is nothing else to do in their lives!
Now about canon stuff:
After seen so many attacks on social media these past months (I had no idea things were this bad), there was a time when I've even questioned myself if I was reading too much into Levi and Hans' bond. But I concluded that fuck it - if 10 years having each other's back through thick and thin and going through life and death situations doesn't make an amazing solid bond between people, nothing.else.does.
And about what you pointed out that this group of dishonest shippers claim: fuck it too LOL! Levi wasn't drawn saying a mere "thank you", but he said "I know you" and gave her all his support in her decision to go try to stop a planetary annihilation; and in the plane scene, Levi could barely walk properly and stand up but he still tried to stop Hans from marching to her certain death, and we saw the light dying out of his eyes when he had to let her go, and then he put his fist over her heart and for the first time in their life said, "Dedicate your heart".
Just remembering this is making my eyes watering already, but as if this isn't enough, Isym also showed Levi couldn't even look at Hans fighting the Colossals, nor her death, and in another display of a first time in Levi's life, he says a "Later" farewell and asks her to "keep watching." Then, while Levi is shown broken in chapters 133, 136, 139, Hans is suddenly shown beautifully drawn in precious panels in the 2 laters, especially in 136 where her face has a close-up, and she is alive and happy, lively inspiring Levi and the campfire group with dreams of a world free of horrors while being the focus of everyone's eyes! And from these memories with her and the others, Levi renewed his will to keep fighting amidst his horrible condition from these moments because if the world went to full hell, it wouldn't have been worth the heart she also devoted!!
So yeah - what is a simple "thank you" (and these whatever biased treatments that these share of troublemakers imagine) compared to all of this????

Now being more rational in this chaotic situation of ships in AOT:
Sorry if this will sound a bit of a down point, but for ALL shippers in this freaking fandom (me included), it's also important to remember that the core of AOT story is not to be a freaking shoujo manga.
In fact, nearly all canon romantic relationships had horrible nuances: Carla being eaten by Grisha's 1st wife, the girlfriend doing CPR in the body of her half-eaten boyfriend during Trost attack, Ymir being eaten by Galliard while Historia was forced to get pregnant, Ymir the Founder in love obsessed with King Fritz for 2000 years, Dina tortured and being turned into a titan in front of Grisha, Ksaver’s wife slitting her own son's throat and then killing herself, and Mikasa kissed the decapitated head of the love of her life after being forced to kill him bc he not only wanted to exterminate the Titans (freeing Ymir) but because he also wanted to flatten 100% of the Earth and let it full of carrion-fattened insects.
So if anything, Isym made sure to depict friendship and fellowship love as the best thing in life! Which, no matter what people say, the canon has enough material to at least prove this existed between ALL SC veteran members!
And lastly, a particular lesson I've learned being active in fandom these months is that moments of utmost frustration can make us feel things too deeply, and regret a lot of things later...
So, as we still have the freedom to see romance where we want, So let's just enjoy what we have healthfully, and keep dedicating our hearts to appreciate these characters that give us so much love in life!! Even though it cannot be screamed as canon (w/o slandering), Levihans can pick up its fair share of hints of beautiful, fun, and non-traumatizing tropes of romantic love from the main manga, anime, and side materials with heart at ease!

okay guys. we're doing it. we're talking about sebastian stan, his bad behavior, and how we should behave as we talk about and deal with it.
i've been thinking about this for a while, but i was hesitant. it's a big topic to cover, and sebastian stan fans are, in my experience, very defensive. i am not a believer in cancelling anyone, and i'm not interested in drama. i wasn't sure i wanted to start discourse and deal with the potentially dramatic fallout. however, i saw a fairly comprehensive tiktok, and decided to go ahead and talk about it.
i want to be clear: i'm not talking about cancelling stan. cancel culture is largely unproductive and creates a false sense of productivity. participants often feel that they're helping to change things for the better, or doing the right then, when generally all they're doing is causing a minor stir that ultimately changes nothing, and making it more difficult for people to grow, change, and improve themselves. also, the cancel culture mindset can lead to abusive and sometimes downright terrifying behavior directed towards the subject, which is of course totally unacceptable.
i'm also not criticizing anyone who consumes and enjoys media sebastian stan is in. we don't have to entirely divorce ourselves from media that contains things we disapprove of; if we did that, we'd have to become amish and never read a book, watch a movie, listen to a song, or play a game ever again. however, it is important that we are aware of issues, talk about issues, denounce bigotry and bad behavior, and work towards improving ourselves and society as a whole.
further, i'm not criticizing anyone who supports, or "stans," stan or any other celebrity, for that matter. it isn't my place to tell people who they should like or support. however, celebrities are human and therefore flawed, and we have to be careful that we are not excusing poor behavior simply because we like them.
first, i want to talk about claims made about stan's behavior, how much of it is provable and accurate, and why it's wrong.
give this a watch, and then we'll break it down and talk about it.
the first point talks about stan's girlfriend, actress alejandra onieva, and how she's used cultures as party themes, going so far as to paint her skin darker for some, including a "mexican party" and an indigenous american themed event, and lighten her skin for an "asian night." though these events happened years ago, let's be clear: there is no excuse for onieva. while respectful cultural appreciation is totally fine, even good, this is not it. this is disgusting, bigoted behavior on her part. she has not apologized or demonstrated any change in behavior. dismissing this because she is european, or "probably doesn't know any better" both contributes to casual racism and is in poor taste.
did stan participate in these parties? not to my knowledge. is stan responsible for his girlfriend's behavior? absolutely not. however, that does not exonerate or excuse him. his silence, in this case, is implicit support.
there have been reports of him blocking twitter users who called his girlfriend out on her racism and him out on his silence on the matter. i cannot find evidence of this outside of rumor, and therefore do not take it particularly seriously.
the fact is that anti-racist individuals do not date, or usually even want to interact with, racists. it is true that matters of the heart are complex, and that we as humans seem unfortunately prone to falling for the wrong person; but we aren't talking about a minor character defect here. we're talking about racism, plain and simple. the fact that stan is in a relationship with an openly racist person is incredibly damning.
"but he has black friends!" you're correct. however, so do several of my extremely racist relatives. having black friends doesn't magically make someone anti-racist.
the second point references an incident in which sebastian stan liked a video on instagram that contained a white man using the n-word, and arguing that white people should be allowed to use it. the tiktok shows screenshotted evidence of the incident, and a quick search online confirms it. this more or less speaks for itself. racism, plain and simple. as easy as it would be to dismiss this as insignificant, or the result of being uniformed, we must take this seriously. casual racism is still racism.
the third point mentions three issues.
the first, stan exploiting the black lives matter movement to promote a movie he acted in. he made a post that referenced "taking a knee," something many american athletes do to represent support of the black lives matter movement and solidarity with the black community, to promote his film "i, tonya." the film had nothing to do with the blm movement. later, stan apologized, calling it a "stupid joke."
while the apology may be a little lackluster and centrist, it is an apology, which i wish were evidence of growth and improved self-awareness, but unfortunately it seems to be an isolated event.
the second issue reference was stan making a joke about the mcu's 16-year-old wakandan princess, shuri, being involved sexually with 100-and-something-year-old bucky barnes. i could not find the joke in question, and therefore do not know if this is true or a rumor. if it is true, it was in poor taste, but as i cannot confirm or deny it i do not count it against him. take it as you will.
i also could not confirm the third issue, which alleges that stan liked blue lives matter posts on instagram. for those unfamiliar, blue lives matter is a countermovement advocating that those who are convicted of killing law enforcement officers, cops, should be sentenced under hate crime statutes. it is a racist, hateful, disgusting movement, supported primarily by individuals who hold white supremacist ideals and deny the systematic racism that has been demonstrated time and time again in america. as i said, i cannot confirm this claim, and therefore, do not count it against him at this time. we cannot accuse without evidence.
the tiktok's fourth point alleges that stan liked pedophilic jokes and memes on instagram, with a screenshot showing one of the aforementioned memes. i could not find further evidence of this claim. the joke itself, while uncomfortable and not in particularly good taste, is not, in my opinion, strictly a pedophilic joke. it appears to have more to do with making fun of stan's vaguely creepy mustache and overall appearance in the photo than anything else. it is a dark joke, and not to my taste, but i don't feel that this should be held against him. it seems to be a matter of an odd sense of humor, not bad behavior.
the fifth point references an incident in which stan used the term "tr*nsvestite," a word which refers to an individual who cross-dresses, such as drag queens and kings, but is sometimes used as a slur against transgender and other lgbtq+ people. i feel that it is likely that stan was simply unaware of its negative connotation, however, that does not excuse him, nor does it make this incident any more acceptable. transphobia, like racism, is frustratingly common and often casual. stan's alleged apology, which i could not find footage of, was weak and unconvincing.
"but he regularly interacts with trans fans at cons! and he's nice to them!" interaction with transgender people does not guarantee a lack of transphobia. further, stan profits from cons, and treating fans poorly, no matter how he really feels, would not benefit him. the behavior of celebrities in interviews, panels, and meet-n-greets is not necessarily a reflection of who they really are.
finally, the tiktok mentions stan's role in a series centering on tommy lee, an american musician who amongst other things abused his wife, pamela, even serving six months in jail for beating her. lee has also been involved in incidents of an antisemitic nature, as well as a variety of fights. stan portrays lee in an upcoming series, criticized widely for its romanticization of an abusive relationship.
what all this means.
hopefully, i've clearly and logically demonstrated stan's consistent bad behavior. he has repeatedly acted poorly without apology or indication of improvement, growth, or self-awareness. he is not the wholesome, unproblematic darling that so many fans make him out to be.
is he evil? is he an unforgivable monster? should we grab torches and pitchforks and go after him? far from it. he is human, as we all are, and he has and will continue to make mistakes, as we all do. further, he is a veritable saint when compared to countless other celebrities who have behaved atrociously, demonstrating bigotry and unkindness of every flavor.
i don't hate stan. i don't even dislike him. i am fairly neutral in my stance on him. i am simply of the opinion that we must be honest. we must look at things objectively. we must put aside our personal biases, especially with regards to other human beings. honestly, objectively, he has not demonstrated the sort of kindness and self-awareness that we often attribute to him. he has not conducted himself well.
how do we respond? what now?
what you do with this information is entirely up to you. if you prefer to carry on supporting stan, that is your decision and it is valid. if you choose to withdraw support, that's valid too. however, simply dismissing his poor behavior is not the correct nor the mature response.
i think the most important thing we can do is hold stan accountable. when he behaves poorly, say something. even if you support him, like him, or enjoy his work, say something. he is capable of better. he is capable of self-improvement. don't allow stan or any other celebrity to believe their poor behavior and bigotry, active or passive, is acceptable.
it's critical to remember that even public figures we adore are capable of bad behavior, and that we cannot excuse it simply because we like them. don't condone stan's bad behavior. talk about it. further, listen to those who are most affected by it. when poc talk about sebastian stan and racism, listen! when transgender people talk about sebastian stan and transphobia, listen!
it is also important to note that it is never, ever acceptable to send anyone hate, threats, or other abusive messages. it isn't okay to doxx people. stan's bad behavior does not justify retaliatory bad behavior. take the high road and treat him and everyone else with respect, no matter what.

And quite active at that. The 'reylo' tag regularly gets well over 20 new posts A Day and that's a slow day. There is new artwork and fanfiction posted Every Day.
Shit, there has been an absolute Flurry of activity today what with the news.

Fuck me, this fandom has been incredibly active in just the time between The Rise of Skywalker and now and that's only been 3 years. Do you really think EP9 destroyed our hearts so much we all collectively put the fandom down and walked away?

Books that were once reylo fanfiction are getting published. Over 30 in fact. I just recently drew furry porn of the ship. It is in fact The Only Thing I Fucking Draw I'm currently reading through The Trail Bride again because the smut in it is fucking hot and Ben is such a good horny boy in that fic I swear to God

Also, I couldn't help but notice you're having an issue with seeing reylo content showing up unappreciated and unapproved on your dash because there's a new Rey centric movie that's going to be released and inevitably... weirdly, the fans are excited to see new content about the character who is literally the other half of the ship they enjoy considering it's been over 3 years with only so much as a plastic lego brick's worth of content about a character so I just wanted to make you aware of one very important thing about content and this website.
Tumblr, like most websites these days, is ran on
Algorithms.
The same algorithm that flagged this post by Tumblr Staff because it thought something about it was obscene and I guess it wasn't wrong in a cosmic sort of way:
An algorithm is a line of code on a computer. Just a dumb dumb computer who can't tell the difference of positive interactions from negative ones.
The algorithm doesn't understand 'Anti' or 'Pro', all it sees the reylo part so it's going to do it's best to keep showing you content about the thing you keep tagging.
If YOU are struggling with seeing reylo content on you dashboard then maybe stop posting in those fucking tags.
I don't know how else to explain this concept to you morons that even though you slapped that Anti in front of there, you are STILL TAGGING IN THOSE FANDOMS.
I and everyone else in my fandom Who Should Have No Inclination To Block The Anti Tag Just To Enjoy Their Own Fandom Mind You has to see your shit when you post like this, which I know you don't give a flying fuck about, but Tumblr ALSO sees that shit and you should be much more concerned about what it thinks. Reminding you once again:

No one in any of these fandoms is forcing you to look at our hot takes. If you're seeing them it's because:
A: You're inadvertently posting in the very tags you hate and tumblr, dumb dumb computer algorithm that it is will now show you more of that content.
or B: You're actively looking for them, and why the fuck would you do that to yourself if you hate this fandom so much? No one in the reylo fandom demanded you read our fun little dumb metas. No one in the Kylo Ren fandom demanded you read their redemption fanfics.
I'm not even demanding you leave though I would very much like it if you fucking did.
No on in any fandom is demanding you partake in the content if you dislike it.
For Example:
I do not like Harry Potter. More of it; I'm not personally able to separate the content from the author and I think JKR is a sewer fatburg personified, so instead I simply choose to dislike the series as a whole even though I did once enjoy them.
But you know what I don't fuckin' do? Interact with fandom, even negatively.
I rarely see Harry Potter content show up on my dash and when I do I just ignore it. If it bothers me that badly I can go and unfollow the people who do like it and are posting content. I have done that before with other users who were posting content I started to not enjoy.
Just don't be a dick about it. Don't like reylo? That's fine brah but it's kinda shit take of you to get mad that fans of the character are excited to see a character they like a lot who are not doing anything wrong.
Fix your fucking shit and get off our dicks about it.
