The Verdict: PRK!
It will be more painful and have a longer recovery, but it'll be safer for me because I've had trouble scarring and healing in the past. No LASIK eye flap for me!
I have been distracted this week, because I was worried I'd hear, "No eye surgery for you. Two pairs of glasses for the rest of your life, or maybe until you get cataracts." Nope! I'm good to go!
But now I'm going to be distracted because the last time I had a "minor" surgery, I ended up with a wound that reopened and wouldn't heal for months, and no support from the surgeon. Negative support, actually. They bandaged my wound in a way that kept it from healing and blamed me. I had to get a referral to a wound clinic from my primary care doctor, weeks later.
I do not know these people. I only know the eye doctor I've been seeing trusts them. And I'm going back in two weeks to let them laser my eyeballs, both at once. I'm looking at a month or more of recovery - provided it goes well. Distance vision will be the first thing to come back, and close things will be blurry for longer. I'm going to try to store up illustrations and formatted posts for the duration, but the duration will be uncertain.
They're kinda iffy on whether I'll need reading glasses right away, or if the correction will stave that off for a few years. I'll be healing for a long time, so I'll need a few months before I can get a new prescription, if any.
There is a very slight chance my vision will get worse or I'll go blind. Probably about the same chance I'll get hit by a car on the way to the store. Still, anxiety, yaaay.
So, probably less Tumblring and less coherency from me in the near future. Followed by NO Tumblring for a couple weeks. I dunno what I'm gonna do other than use my eyes for fun. Probably a lot of podcasts. Any recommendations are appreciated!

30 Days of Them, Day 14
What is something that without Their help, you feel you wouldn't have been able to do?
Cope with everything with my health and trauma and... everything. Honestly. Would I have been able to do it without Her? Probably. But I think I'd be much worse off for it.
I had a long post written out about all the medical procedures I had, but that'll be better suited for its own post.
CW: medical trauma, eye surgery mentions, toxic family mentions.
Long story short: I went through a period of about three years where I had to have a bunch of eye surgeries for glaucoma/retinal detachments/cataracts (from the other surgeries). And then I had to have vocal cord implants after a congenital heart issue appeared in adulthood, which presses against the nerve to my left vocal cord, paralyzing it. My doctors for all of these things are/were incredible, I was really lucky. Unfortunately, a lot of eye surgeries are done while you're mostly awake, and the recovery... isn't fun, so it was still traumatizing.
Also around this time I also really started to understand how toxic my family is, especially my mom and her sister. I now realize that this is also likely why I stayed at my incredibly toxic job for so long. I now believe that all of that stress, combined with over-exercising/over-committing myself, contributed to my body basically trying to self-destruct.
She has held space for me throughout all of this, and while she may not feel like a warm, cozy home like Brigid does, she feels like a safe, protective fort where I can put aside everything else and rest. Or cry and scream and feel without judgment. She is incredibly supportive of me in a way I haven't experienced (outside of my wife, but it's still different), and helps me question the old 'programming' of my childhood. I trust her now to know that when she tells me that something is bad for me, she is right. She has helped me trust myself by loving and believing in me. I know that not everything has to be some kind of grandiose gesture for it to matter- I don't have to be perfect, just show up. With her and just in general. All of this is why, after some 'normalcy' finally settled in a few years ago, I dedicated to her after years of one-year devotions.

A Comprehensive Guide to Cataract Eye Surgery
Cataracts are a common eye condition that affects millions of people worldwide, especially as they age. They occur when the lens of the eye becomes clouded, leading to blurred vision and, if untreated, potentially causing blindness. Cataract eye surgery is one of the most effective ways to restore clear vision, and ASG Eye Hospital is a leader in providing advanced eye cataract treatment.
What is Cataract Eye Surgery?
Cataract eye surgery is a medical procedure designed to remove the clouded lens from the eye and replace it with an artificial lens, known as an intraocular lens (IOL). This surgery is highly successful and one of the most performed procedures worldwide. Cataract eye surgery is typically recommended when cataracts begin to interfere with daily activities, such as reading, driving, or watching television.
Why is Cataract Surgery Necessary?
Cataracts can develop gradually and may not be noticeable at first. However, as they worsen, they can lead to significant vision impairment. If left untreated, cataracts can eventually result in complete vision loss. Cataract eye surgery offers a safe, reliable solution to restore clear vision and improve quality of life. In fact, the procedure is often life-changing, allowing patients to regain their independence and enjoy activities that were once difficult due to poor vision.
The Cataract Surgery Procedure at ASG Eye Hospital
At ASG Eye Hospital, cataract eye surgery is performed using the latest technology and techniques to ensure the best possible outcomes. The procedure is typically done under local anesthesia, meaning patients are awake but do not feel any pain during the surgery. The surgeon makes a small incision in the eye to remove the clouded lens and replace it with a customized intraocular lens.
One of the most common and advanced methods used at ASG Eye Hospital is phacoemulsification. This technique uses ultrasound waves to break up the cataract, making it easier to remove with minimal incision. This allows for faster recovery times and reduces the risk of complications.
What to Expect During Recovery
The recovery from cataract eye surgery is typically quick and relatively painless. Most patients can resume normal activities within a few days, although it’s important to avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks to ensure proper healing. Follow-up appointments with the eye specialist will be scheduled to monitor progress and ensure that the new lens is properly positioned.
At ASG Eye Hospital, our dedicated team of eye cataract treatment specialists will guide you through the entire process, from pre-surgery consultations to post-surgery care. We are committed to providing exceptional care and ensuring a smooth recovery.
Why Choose ASG Eye Hospital for Your Cataract Treatment?
ASG Eye Hospital stands out as one of the best places for cataract eye surgery in India. With state-of-the-art facilities, experienced surgeons, and a commitment to patient care, we offer the highest standards of treatment. Our team of experts provides personalized care, ensuring that each patient receives the best possible outcome from their cataract surgery.

Can LASIK Surgery Be Performed If One Has a History of Eye Trauma?
When it comes to improving vision, LASIK treatment in Bangalore has become a popular choice for many individuals looking to reduce their dependence on glasses or contact lenses. However, patients who have a history of eye trauma often wonder if they can still undergo LASIK surgery. If you’ve experienced any eye injuries in the past, it’s natural to have concerns about your eligibility for this procedure. In this article, I'll address whether LASIK is suitable for individuals with a history of eye trauma, the factors we consider, and what you can expect if you’re exploring LASIK as an option.
Understanding LASIK Surgery
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a widely used laser eye surgery designed to correct vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The procedure reshapes the cornea to improve how the eye focuses light onto the retina, thereby enhancing vision. It is a quick, generally painless procedure with minimal recovery time, making it an attractive option for many.
However, like any surgery, LASIK has specific eligibility criteria to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment. One critical factor that we, as specialists, assess is whether a patient has any history of eye trauma. Let's delve deeper into how past eye injuries may impact your suitability for LASIK.
How Eye Trauma Affects LASIK Candidacy
Eye trauma can refer to any injury to the eye, such as cuts, blunt force injuries, chemical burns, or foreign objects causing damage. These injuries may affect various parts of the eye, including the cornea, lens, or retina. When considering LASIK for patients with a history of trauma, we evaluate the following factors:
Extent of Corneal Damage: The cornea plays a crucial role in LASIK surgery. If the trauma has resulted in scarring or thinning of the cornea, it may not be safe to proceed with the procedure.
Stability of Vision: We check if your vision has been stable for at least a year. Trauma can sometimes lead to fluctuating vision, which could affect LASIK outcomes.
Healing of Previous Injuries: Any prior injuries need to be fully healed before we can consider you for LASIK. Inflammation or incomplete healing can increase the risk of complications during and after surgery.
Overall Eye Health: A comprehensive eye examination is conducted to check for other conditions that may have developed due to trauma, such as glaucoma or cataracts, which could affect your LASIK candidacy.
Key Factors to Discuss with Your Eye Specialist
If you have a history of eye trauma and are considering LASIK, it’s essential to have an open and detailed discussion with your eye specialist. Here’s what we usually cover in such consultations:
Detailed Medical History: Be prepared to share information about your past eye injuries, including the type of trauma, how it was treated, and your recovery status.
Comprehensive Eye Exam: We will conduct thorough diagnostic tests, such as corneal topography, pachymetry, and retinal scans, to evaluate the current health of your eyes.
Risks and Benefits Assessment: I will walk you through the potential risks and benefits of undergoing LASIK after eye trauma, helping you make an informed decision.
When LASIK May Be Suitable After Eye Trauma: Point-by-Point Guide
In certain cases, patients with a history of eye trauma can still undergo LASIK surgery. Here’s a point-by-point breakdown of when it may be possible:
Minor Corneal Scratches:
If the trauma only caused superficial scratches that have healed completely, you might still be a candidate for LASIK.
No Corneal Scarring:
If there’s no significant corneal scarring or thinning, the structural integrity of your cornea may still be suitable for the procedure.
No Active Eye Infections:
If your eyes are free from any active infections or inflammation, this lowers the risk of post-surgery complications.
Stable Eye Condition:
If your vision has remained stable for at least a year and no other eye conditions are present, you may be eligible for LASIK.
Healthy Tear Production:
Good tear production is crucial for the healing process after LASIK. If you have a healthy tear film, it supports a smoother recovery.
Alternatives to LASIK for Patients with a History of Eye Trauma
If LASIK is not suitable for you due to past eye injuries, there are alternative vision correction procedures that may be considered. Some options include:
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy): This procedure is similar to LASIK but does not involve creating a corneal flap, which may be safer for patients with corneal trauma.
ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens): If you’re not eligible for laser eye surgery, ICL involves placing a lens inside your eye, which can be a safer alternative for those with corneal damage.
Contact Lenses or Glasses: Sometimes, simply updating your prescription for contact lenses or glasses may be the best solution to improve your vision safely.
Preparing for Your LASIK Consultation
If you’re interested in exploring LASIK treatment in Bangalore but have concerns about previous eye injuries, it’s crucial to schedule a thorough evaluation. Here’s how you can prepare:
Gather Your Medical Records: Bring any past records related to your eye trauma to your consultation.
List of Questions: Prepare a list of questions about the procedure, recovery, and potential risks to make the most of your appointment.
Discuss Your Lifestyle Needs: Inform your eye specialist about your lifestyle and vision goals to help determine the best treatment option for you.
At The Eye Foundation, we are committed to providing personalized and comprehensive eye care. If you’ve been considering LASIK surgery but are worried about your history of eye trauma, don’t hesitate to reach out. I, Dr. Neha Kamal Rathi, will ensure a thorough evaluation to determine the safest and most effective treatment for your vision needs.

Green Laser Eye Surgery: Is It Right for You?
Are you tired of getting up every morning to put on your glasses or the hassle of putting on your contacts every day? If so, chances are you’ve considered laser eye surgery a permanent solution to improve your vision. There are many different types of laser eye surgery available, but one that’s becoming increasingly popular is green eye surgery. But first, it’s important to know if green laser eye surgery really is the right choice for you.
Understanding Green Laser Eye Surgery
What is green laser eye surgery? (https://alatkarhospital.com/green-laser-eye-surgery-in-pune/) A green laser eye surgery (also referred to as green laser keratectomy (PRK)) is a surgical procedure that reshapes the cornea with the help of a precise laser to correct your vision. This procedure is used to correct a variety of vision problems, including near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism, and more.
Is Green Laser Eye Surgery Right for You?
1. Vision Prescription Stability
One of the most important things to consider when deciding if you’re a candidate for green laser eyes surgery is your vision prescription stability. Your vision prescription should have been stable for at least 12 months prior to surgery. Major changes in your prescription can have a significant impact on the success of your procedure.
2. Eye Health
Another important factor is your eye health. You need to have healthy eyes. You must not have glaucoma or cataracts or severe dry eye. Your eye doctor will do a thorough eye exam to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure.
3. Age
Although green laser eye surgery can be performed at any age, most surgeons prefer to perform green laser eye surgery on patients over 18 years of age. The reason for this is that younger patients are more likely to develop changes in their vision over time, which can impact the long-term outcomes of the surgery.
4. Lifestyle and Expectations
It also depends on your lifestyle and expectations. Green laser eye surgery may be right for you if you live an active life or play contact sports. Laser eye surgery can give you the freedom to wear glasses and contacts as much as you want. But it’s important to be realistic about the results.
Benefits of Green Laser Eye Surgery
Quick Recovery: While the length of time it takes to recover varies from patient to patient, many people see improvements in their vision within a couple of days to a few weeks after surgery.
Long-Term Results: Green laser eye surgery offers long-term vision correction, reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.
Enhanced Quality of Life: Eliminating the need for glasses and contacts can improve your quality of life by allowing you to enjoy life without glasses or contact lenses.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a way to free yourself from glasses and contact lenses, green laser eyes can be a great option for you. However, you’ll need to consult with an experienced eye surgeon to decide if you’re a good candidate for this procedure. By taking into account factors such as: Your vision stability Eye health your age your life styles your expectations keep in mind that the only way to have a successful vision correction procedure is to go through a thorough evaluation and receive personalized care.

Choosing the Right Surgeon for Squint and Cataract: A Guide
When it comes to eye health, especially for issues as delicate as squints or cataracts, the choice of surgeon is crucial. Selecting an experienced and skilled professional not only improves the chances of a successful outcome but also offers peace of mind to patients and their families. At Maxi Vision, we believe that every eye deserves personalized, compassionate care, and this article is dedicated to helping you understand the importance of choosing the right surgeon for these critical procedures.
Understanding Squint Surgery and Its Importance
Squint, or strabismus, is a condition where the eyes do not align properly, often causing one eye to turn in, out, up, or down. It can affect children and adults, leading to vision issues, difficulties with depth perception, and even emotional stress due to cosmetic concerns. In some cases, glasses or exercises may help, but surgery is often the best solution for a lasting improvement.
Correcting Eye Alignment: Squint surgery aims to correct the misalignment of the eyes by adjusting the muscles controlling eye movement. This can restore alignment, improve vision quality, and enhance depth perception.
Improving Self-Confidence: Beyond physical alignment, squint surgery can have profound psychological benefits, especially in children and young adults. By aligning the eyes, patients often experience a boost in confidence and comfort in social settings.
Preventing Vision Loss: If left untreated, a squint can lead to further complications like amblyopia (lazy eye), where the brain starts ignoring input from the misaligned eye. Timely intervention through surgery helps prevent this.
Choosing a skilled surgeon for squint surgery is essential because the success of the operation relies on precise adjustments to delicate eye muscles. An experienced surgeon will not only assess the most effective approach but also consider patient comfort, safety, and long-term outcomes.
What You Need to Know About Cataract Surgery
Cataracts develop when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurred vision, difficulty seeing at night, and a gradual loss of visual clarity. It is a common condition, especially in older adults, but it can also be caused by other factors like diabetes, long-term steroid use, or eye injuries. Cataract surgery is a highly effective treatment that involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with a clear artificial lens.
Restoring Vision Quality: Cataract surgery can restore clarity, color vibrancy, and brightness, often resulting in significantly improved vision and quality of life. Patients commonly report an enhanced ability to read, drive, and perform everyday tasks after surgery.
Enhancing Safety and Independence: By restoring vision, cataract surgery reduces risks associated with poor eyesight, such as falls and accidents. It empowers individuals to live independently and with confidence.
Modern and Advanced Techniques: Today’s cataract surgery is minimally invasive, often completed within 15 to 30 minutes. The recovery is swift, with most patients experiencing improved vision within a few days.
Selecting the best cataract surgeon is key to achieving optimal results, as this ensures precision, safety, and comfort during the procedure. A skilled surgeon will customize the choice of artificial lens based on each patient’s lifestyle and vision needs, ensuring the best possible outcome.
Why Choosing the Right Surgeon Matters
The choice of surgeon significantly impacts the success and safety of both squint and cataract surgeries. Here are a few reasons why selecting the right surgeon is essential for both procedures:
Experience with Complex Cases: Not all squints or cataracts are straightforward. Experienced surgeons are adept at handling complex cases, such as reoperations, unusual eye anatomy, or cataracts complicated by other eye conditions.
Use of Advanced Technology: Reputable eye surgeons use cutting-edge technology to plan and execute surgeries with high accuracy. For instance, computer-assisted imaging during cataract surgery ensures precise placement of the new lens, while advanced tools in squint surgery help achieve perfect muscle adjustments.
Personalized Approach: Skilled surgeons take the time to understand each patient’s unique needs, whether it’s the right type of lens for a cataract patient or a tailored surgical approach for a squint patient. This personalized care can make a significant difference in patient satisfaction and long-term outcomes.
Commitment to Safety and Comfort: The right surgeon prioritizes patient safety, follows strict hygiene protocols, and ensures a comfortable experience. From pre-operative assessments to post-surgical follow-ups, a caring and thorough approach is crucial.
How to Find the Right Surgeon for Squint and Cataract Surgery
Finding the right surgeon can feel daunting, but these steps can guide you through making a confident choice:
Check Qualifications and Experience: Look for a surgeon who specializes in squint or cataract surgery and has a significant amount of experience. Check their credentials, certifications, and any relevant training in advanced surgical techniques.

The Growing Popularity of Cataract Eye Surgery in India
Cataracts are one of the most common eye conditions globally, especially among the aging population. In India, where access to medical expertise and facilities has advanced significantly over the past few decades, cataract eye surgery has become more accessible, affordable, and effective. This article explores the benefits, methods, and advancements in cataract eye surgery in India, providing patients and families with essential information to make informed decisions regarding eye health.
Cataract surgery is primarily performed to remove the natural lens of the eye that has become cloudy and impaired, often resulting in blurred vision and, eventually, vision loss. During cataract eye surgery, the surgeon replaces the cloudy lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL), which restores vision. This procedure has proven to be highly effective, with a success rate of over 95%, giving patients renewed vision and improving quality of life.
Why Cataract Eye Surgery in India is a Preferred Choice
India has become a preferred destination for cataract eye surgery for patients not only within the country but also from around the world. The reasons for this are manifold:
Expert Medical Professionals: India is home to some of the most skilled ophthalmologists in the world, with vast experience in handling complex cataract cases. Surgeons in India are well-trained, having undergone rigorous training and frequently updating their skills with the latest techniques.
2. Advanced Technology: Hospitals and clinics across India, including those associated with Prime Care India, offer advanced surgical techniques such as phacoemulsification and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery. These technologies ensure minimal invasion, quick recovery times, and precise results.
3. Affordable Treatment: The cost of cataract eye surgery in India is significantly lower than in many Western countries, even when using advanced techniques. For those who may be concerned about affordability, this makes India an attractive destination for high-quality care without the high cost.
4. Convenience and Accessibility: India’s healthcare infrastructure has rapidly expanded, with many eye care centers and hospitals available in major cities. This makes it easier for both domestic and international patients to access top-notch eye care services.

With advanced technologies like laser-assisted surgeries, patients experience minimal pain, fewer complications, and faster recovery. After surgery, patients are usually able to return home the same day and resume their daily activities within a week. However, it’s essential to follow the aftercare instructions provided by the surgeon, including medication and eye protection, to ensure the best results.
India offers the same high-quality care for cataract eye surgery that one would find in the world’s best hospitals, but at a fraction of the cost. Additionally, clinics like Prime Care India are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed by experts who are dedicated to patient care and satisfaction.

What You Need To Know About Cataract Treatment Options?
Cataracts are a common eye condition that affects millions worldwide, leading to cloudy vision and often impairing the ability to perform daily activities. With advancements in medical science, cataract treatment has evolved significantly, offering various effective options. Whether you’re exploring preventive measures or planning surgery, it’s essential to understand the types of treatment available. Here’s a comprehensive look at cataract treatment options and how Nishma Health Assist can guide you in choosing the best hospital for your specific needs.
Understanding Cataracts and the Need for Treatment
Cataracts typically develop gradually, clouding the eye’s natural lens and affecting vision. They are most commonly age-related, though factors like genetics, certain medications, and lifestyle choices can increase the risk. While glasses or stronger lighting may temporarily improve sight, cataract surgery is often the only effective way to restore clear vision as the condition progresses.
Cataract treatment focuses on removing the clouded lens and replacing it with a clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This surgery is one of the safest and most frequently performed procedures worldwide, with high success rates and minimal recovery time.
Exploring Cataract Treatment Options
There are various treatment options available for cataracts, each offering unique benefits:
Phacoemulsification (Phaco Surgery)
This is the most common cataract surgery, involving a small incision through which ultrasound waves break up the cataract. The fragments are then gently removed, and an IOL is inserted. Phacoemulsification is minimally invasive, allowing for quick recovery and minimal discomfort.
Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE)
ECCE involves a larger incision to remove the clouded lens. While less common than phacoemulsification, ECCE is sometimes necessary for advanced or dense cataracts that are difficult to break up with ultrasound. Patients may experience a slightly longer recovery time with this option.
Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS)
Femtosecond lasers have added precision to cataract surgery by automating steps like corneal incisions and lens fragmentation. FLACS offers increased accuracy, reduced risk of complications, and faster healing. However, it is generally more costly and may not be available at all hospitals.
Choice of Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)
IOLs are the artificial lenses placed in the eye after cataract removal. There are different types of IOLs available:
Monofocal IOLs provide clear vision at a single distance, typically for far vision.
Multifocal and Trifocal IOLs offer clear vision at multiple distances, potentially reducing dependence on glasses.
Toric IOLs correct astigmatism along with cataract treatment, improving clarity.
Each of these treatments requires personalized guidance based on individual eye health, lifestyle, and specific needs.

Frequently Asked Questions About SMILE Pro Eye Surgery
In the ever-evolving field of vision correction, SMILE Pro eye surgery has quickly gained popularity as a minimally invasive, safe, and highly effective procedure. This innovative treatment option has transformed how nearsightedness and astigmatism are treated, offering a fast recovery time and excellent results with minimal discomfort. As a procedure widely adopted by top eye hospitals like Amanat Eye Hospital, SMILE Pro is shaping the future of laser vision correction.
What is SMILE Pro Eye Surgery?
SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) Pro eye surgery is an advanced laser procedure designed to correct refractive errors, primarily nearsightedness (myopia) and, in some cases, astigmatism. Unlike LASIK, which requires a flap in the cornea, SMILE Pro involves creating a small incision through which the laser reshapes the corneal tissue.
The result? Enhanced vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses. As a minimally invasive procedure, SMILE Pro is particularly suitable for those with active lifestyles who need rapid recovery.
How Does SMILE Pro Differ from LASIK?
The main distinction between SMILE Pro and LASIK lies in the method of access to the corneal tissue. In LASIK, a flap is created on the corneal surface, which is then lifted so the laser can reshape the cornea. In SMILE Pro, a small incision is made, reducing the impact on the cornea’s surface.
Benefits of SMILE Pro over LASIK:
Minimally Invasive: SMILE Pro only requires a small incision, while LASIK requires a larger flap.
Reduced Dry Eye Symptoms: With less disruption to the corneal nerves, patients may experience fewer dry eye symptoms post-surgery.
Faster Recovery: Since SMILE Pro is less invasive, patients often experience a quicker return to their daily routines.
Am I a Good Candidate for SMILE Pro Eye Surgery?
SMILE Pro is an excellent option for many patients, but specific criteria need to be met:
Age: Candidates should be at least 18 years old with a stable prescription for at least one year.
Prescription Stability: SMILE Pro is ideal for those with mild to moderate myopia and astigmatism.
Overall Eye Health: Candidates should have healthy corneas and no history of eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, or severe dry eye syndrome.
Lifestyle Considerations: Those who play contact sports or have jobs where eye safety is crucial may prefer SMILE Pro due to its smaller incision and quicker healing time.
For a comprehensive evaluation, Amanat Eye Hospital, known as the top eye hospital in Rawalpindi, offers state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to assess if SMILE Pro eye surgery is the right choice.
How Should I Prepare for SMILE Pro Eye Surgery?
Preparation for SMILE Pro is straightforward but essential for successful results. Here are some preparatory steps:
Avoid Contact Lenses: Contact lenses can alter the shape of your cornea. It’s advisable to stop wearing them at least one to two weeks before your consultation and surgery.
Arrange Transportation: While the surgery is quick, you’ll need someone to drive you home afterward.
Avoid Eye Makeup and Lotions: On the day of surgery, avoid using eye makeup, creams, or lotions that may interfere with the surgery.
Follow Pre-Operative Instructions: Your doctor will provide specific pre-surgery instructions tailored to your needs.
Following these steps ensures that your surgery goes smoothly, maximizing the effectiveness of the SMILE Pro procedure.
What Happens During SMILE Pro Eye Surgery?
The SMILE Pro procedure is known for being fast and relatively comfortable. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown:
Numbing Drops: The surgeon will apply numbing drops to your eye to ensure a painless procedure.
Laser Application: Using a femtosecond laser, the surgeon creates a small lens-shaped tissue (lenticule) within the cornea. This laser also creates a small incision through which the lenticule can be extracted.
Tissue Removal: The surgeon then removes the lenticule through the small incision. This changes the shape of the cornea, correcting the refractive error.
Quick Recovery: The incision heals quickly, and because it’s so small, recovery time is short.
The entire procedure takes about 15-20 minutes for both eyes, and patients can typically return home soon after.
What Can I Expect During Recovery?
Recovery is one of the standout features of SMILE Pro eye surgery, thanks to the minimal invasiveness of the procedure.
Key Aspects of SMILE Pro Recovery:
Immediate Vision Improvement: Many patients notice an improvement in vision within a day, though full clarity may take up to a week.
Minimal Discomfort: Some mild discomfort, tearing, or light sensitivity may occur on the day of surgery, but these typically subside within a day or two.
Follow-Up Care: You’ll need to attend a follow-up appointment to monitor the healing process.
Adhering to post-surgery instructions from your eye care provider is crucial to avoid complications and ensure optimal healing.
How Long Do the Results of SMILE Pro Last?
One of the most appealing aspects of SMILE Pro eye surgery is its long-term effectiveness. In most cases, the results are permanent, as the procedure corrects the underlying cause of nearsightedness or astigmatism.
However, vision can change with age, so some patients may require additional correction as they get older. Fortunately, enhancements can often be performed if necessary.
Are There Any Risks Associated with SMILE Pro?
SMILE Pro is highly safe and effective, with success rates comparable to LASIK. However, like any surgical procedure, it has potential risks:
Dry Eye: Though less common than with LASIK, some patients may experience dry eye symptoms after SMILE Pro.
Visual Aberrations: Halos, glare, or double vision may occur, especially during nighttime. These effects usually diminish over time.
Undercorrection or Overcorrection: In rare cases, the intended vision correction may not be fully achieved, requiring additional procedures.
Discussing these potential risks with your surgeon can provide peace of mind and help set realistic expectations.

The cost of SMILE Pro eye surgery can vary based on factors such as clinic reputation, surgeon experience, and geographic location.
To gain insight into the exact cost, Amanat Eye Hospital provides a transparent cost breakdown during consultations, allowing patients to make well-informed decisions about their investment in vision correction.
