Tera's back is turned to Cassidy, unfortunate if she's squeamish in any way... since that's where the wound is.

A giant claw mark slashes across her back, openly bleeding out onto the sheets, the rest of her back and the floor- she's panting, gritting her teeth in pain fueled growls as she tries and fails to dress and clean the wound herself...

Her tail is limp, coiled up in a pile on the floor.

The solver that should be healing the wound is either taking it's sweet fucking time, or opted out of healing this one due to location... Or perhaps she's just low on oil, by the way the wound is steaming.

She doesn't notice Cassidy, too much focused on not passing out...

A small pod lands in the vicinity of Sanctuary. Out of the door steps a worker drone with a half bandaged head and a single red eylight, framed with long and somewhat messy and matted black hair, wearing a tattered brown trench coat stained with blood and oil. Despite being a worker drone, her arms and legs are that of a male disassembly drone, and have been painted completely black.

She looks around at her surroundings. "This is it, alright."

The drone walks up the front gate of Sanctuary and looks at the guards. "Let me in."

The guards look at each other, giving the other a confused look before stepping aside- the door opens to the town... oil pump in the middle- houses stacked on houses, hundreds of drones mill about.

:D thanks for asking!! it's still a major WIP that's all over the place in terms of ideas, as you'll notice, but the overall gist is that the FNAF1 and 2 animatronics have escaped into the woods and are like. camping out and killing people, and there's these paranormal investigators including Mike, a young Vanessa, and a mother of one of the missing kids, who have to track them down. If I do a comic or fic it would switch between the animatronics/spirits' perspective, and the investigators' perspective (hence the name of the AU)! There's lots more I will share about characters once I finish writing my toyhouse pages, but here's a few more tidbits and distinctions from canon that I find interesting...

The Fredbear Plush is CC/David's guardian angel instead of just William with a walkie talkie bc that's laaaame and boring!! My "Friendbear" just wanted to comfort a little boy who was being bullied but ends up getting roped into the whole mess that is FNAF, and helps Mike and the other protags free the spirits. I imagine him being like jiminy cricket or the bug from puss in boots personality-wise. Just constantly disturbed by everything from the bloodthirsty animatronics to the unethical business practices of faz ent. all while still trying to believe there is some good inside springtrap. lol

Cassidy doesn't exist---sort of? I wanted to do my own spin on Golden Duo, so In my AU Cassidy is an alter personality of David created from the agony of the Bite. She suppresses David to protect him and becomes the one in control of Golden Freddy, to Mike's dismay. I wanted her to reflect the way real alters are made from trauma. I've done a lot of research on DID in the past as I don't have it but I do want to make sure I do them justice!

In terms of how possession works, I wanted to set some clearly defined rules and terms. The investigators come up with 3 different terms to describe different types of possession---'Dependent' types, like Circus Baby, have high enough AI levels that the AI and spirit fuse and alter the spirit's identity and memories. 'Degenerative' types like Freddy are older models with lower AI; they slowly lose their memories and identity over time until they become like animals. Finally, 'Independent' types like the Puppet also have low AI levels but are able to maintain their awareness; usually through some sort of strong motive or complex unfinished business that requires more thought

Some more random changes: most of SL doesn't happen, FNAF3 and 6 are combined, the MCI happens during fall fest '83, there are no 'un-withereds,' FNAF2 is a sequel, Scrap Baby is basically Ennard, Funtime Freddy is a LEFTE stand-in

Rae: There would be this whole running bit about Rae jumping into a fight, Wade thinking she's going to get herself killed and trying to save her (not in a sexist way, just because she's super reckless when it comes to fights and doesn't seem to think things through - and while Wade does the same, Rae doesn't have the same kind of healing factor), only to show up and get his own ass beat while Rae's shields actually keep her in reasonably good shape. It would be like a "false mentor" sort of dynamic, really played up, where Wade keeps calling himself "Mr. Miyagi" or referring to her as his "Padawan" and stuff like that while Rae's just like "Dude. I'm an X-Man. I've done this before. I don't need your help.".

And bonus: while I'd want there to be a Warren cameo (since there's always a "guy with the pigeon wings" reference in the movies lmao), I think it would be funnier if he just never shows up. Like, if the movie keeps intentionally finding excuses for him not to be there. He's caught in traffic ("he has wings, can't he just fly?"). He's babysitting Rae's nephew. He's in line at the DMV. Right at the end, Rae and Wade are in a hotel room or something, watching Golden Girls reruns after all the wild antics the movie's put them through, and we hear the shower running with the assumption that it's Warren... and instead it's Wolverine or Colossus or Dopinder or some other random character.

On the one hand it would piss me off to have such an opportunity for my favorite character to have more screentime and just never show him, but objectively I think it would be fucking hilarious because he's been referenced so many times in the other movies but has never shown up.

Robin: This would be an interesting one. Lots of references to Black Tom Cassidy (her cousin, was the butt of a lot of jokes in DP2) and that would probably annoy her after a while. But on a nicer note, it's already canon that he knows ASL and would flip up his mask so she can read his lips (he does the same for Hawkeye in the comics), so... accessibility! Yay!

Madison: Lots of mermaid jokes that Madison finds absolutely infuriating. She throws more than one knife at him. They wouldn't get along - not like they're enemies, just... mutual annoyances for the sake of comedy. Every scene they share involves some form of reluctant team-up, lots of taunting, etc.. Post-credits scene shows Madison knocking on Wade's door seemingly out of the blue, only to reveal that she's actually there for a girl's night with Vanessa - their friendship being the only reason she kept teaming up with Wade.

Ophelia: Copious amounts of fourth-wall-breaking Spiderverse references for her being a female Doc Ock, but aside from that she's pretty good at going toe-to-toe with him with that witty banter and I think that knocks him off-guard a little. She can't quite break the fourth wall, but all that jumping through the multiverse has allowed her to gently tap it (*turns to camera* The Proposal...) at times. There are still some things that go over her head, but they've got a bit of a rapport going

Gia: Even if they somehow managed to cross paths, she'd be almost a nothing character to him. Not in a mean way, he's not intentionally disregarding her or anything, but with her being so meek and anxious and barely willing to leave her shop, they probably wouldn't share many scenes. All I'm imagining is like... the rest of his team in the throes of some grand bloody battle, and here's Wade popping into this random flower shop and casually asking to buy a bouquet for Vanessa. He's being a chatterbox while Gia prepares the bouquet, throws her a lot of opportunities for jokes she doesn't understand, mumbles something "tough crowd" adjacent, pays, and leaves. She'd basically be the "straight man" cameo in an otherwise-chaotic scene.

... i started this ask then forgot to save it before turning off my phone so uhhh new post I guess.

1. Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)

Dark Comedy about Family and Poison. Cary Grant funny as hell, it shocks me he is seen as pretty leading man when really he is perfect being over the top. Also got a toxic queer coded relationship in this (in my opinion) so it has that going for it.

2. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)

Possibly one of the best westerns of all time. I really love it. It's a movie clearly made in the late 1960s they do use modern music, but it blends it so well that in really enhances the piece rather than distracts from it. Also it's wonderfully shot, every time i see a landscape shot i found myself gushing. The land really is it's own character, I adore it.

Also the leads played by Paul Newman and Robert Redford, they are like it man, best duo and really make the movie wonderful.

Marvel movies wish they had what they had.

3. Escape from New York (1981)

An action movie set in a dark world setting, in 1997.... but made in 1981, so it has that bleak gritty feel, but also is just very 80s.

John Carpenter directs and Kurt Russell stars. (His character very much inspired metal gear solid, as his character's name is Snake)

4. Dirty Dancing (1987)

Coming of age romance story. But you could only watch one of the genre have it be dirty dancing. Two people who come from different social classes find themselves having to work together and slowly fall in love.

The movie is from the female leads pov we get to see her truely experience sexuality and what it means to be brave and stand up for what's right.

Every relationship was far more complex and different than what i was expecting and i find myself thinking about the movie all the time.

The dancing is also just incredible. I get so happy thinking about it. If you are in for a movie with romance and surprisingly interesting take on what romance can lead to, please watch it. It is just as good, if not better than people say it is!

5. The Way (2010)

Directed by Emilio Estevez and Starring Martin Sheen, this movie is a beautiful take on love, loss, and what taking a journey truely means.

The story is a father gets a call that his son has passed away while abroad. The two have always been distant and they never got to really reconnect before he died.

His son was just starting the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and the Dad decides rather spur of the moment to complete the walk himself (this is a very long walk through France and Spain)

It's very emotional charged but also very comfortable of that makes sense. I really should by it on DVD sometime.

I dunno maybe i am biased about a father son story, made by a son and father.

Hihi so I made a FNaF au and now ima share what I have so far for the first chapter because I’m making it into a fanfic

“GARRET!!” Cassidy screamed as he relentlessly chased the car that speeded away from him, watching Garret in the back of the car frown as he stared at Cassidy with a blank stare.

The car was eventually out of reach and Cassidy had to stop to gasp for air, he stared down at his feet as he inhaled air in and out quickly before he heard a twig snap behind him and he wearily turned around.

“…Wh-who’s there…?” Cassidy said in a shaky tone, his lip quivers and turns around to see two figures standing in the woods.

The taller one looked like a scruffy middle aged man who was maybe somewhere around his thirties, maybe younger. The smaller one was a little girl who looked the same age as Cassidy.

Cassidy reluctantly takes a step closer and grits his teeth in anxiety. “Wh-who are you two…? D-do you two know wh-who t-took Garrett…?” His voice shakes and stutters as a feeling of doom looms over the young blonde boy.

The figures stayed quiet, this aggravated Cassidy a bit. “…S-say something! Pl-please!… Wh-who took Garrett?!” His voice started to devolve to a mumble from anxiety.

The girl then raises her finger, she points it over to where the car used to be parked. “…The car…” She mumbled which just confused Cassidy more.

He starts running towards the two but trips almost immediately, but when he lifts his head he finds himself in the same diner he fell asleep in. His friends all still chatting, he scans the table till he sees Jeramy reading an excerpt from the book Cassidy read to Fritz and Gabriel.

Jeremy takes a gasp of air before reading out the next paragraph. “And though the dreamer remains asleep, he walks through memory as if experiencing it for the first time anew, no longer a passenger but an active participant.”

Gabriel and Fritz tilt their heads like they just didn’t understand a word that was just spoken to them, probably because they didn’t. Jeramy scoffs slightly before setting the book down on the table. “People actually believe in this stuff…?” Fritz laughs a bit at the remark.

Cassidy sighs and reaches over the table to grab the book back while mumbling underneath his breath. “Well it depends what you believe in…” He says slightly agitated, not just from them taking his book but also from the dream.

Gabriel sighs and playfully nudges Cassidy’s side. “Cmon Cassie… your book just looked interesting!” The brown haired boy says with a grin and Fritz nods in agreement. “And it wasn’t.” Jeramy sassily says jokingly.

Cassidy rolls his eyes and stuffs the book into his bag next to some dog treats they kept in there for Susie’s puppy that they somehow let into the restaurant…

Just as he was about to motion for them that they need to get going soon because they're technically loitering currently and it was getting dark, a familiar face appears. It was their favorite waitress, Vanessa!

Susie gets excited and almost hops out of her seat when seeing the chipper young woman, Cassidy was stunned about how that lady was able to keep her energy up all the time. Maybe that ponytail of hers is a little too tight…

“Heya kids! What’ll it be for you five today?” She says taking out a notepad that was used to jot down orders, she also had a tray under her arm that was used to carry drinks and food.

Susie was about to speak up but Cassidy quickly shut her down. “No, we aren’t getting anything…”

Last time I was into knitting, the big names were Kaffe Fassett and Alice Starmore. They might have made your eyes bleed with 80s intarsia, but at least you were getting a product you’d never get without making it yourself. I mean, some might argue that they wouldn’t want to wear a Kaffe Fassett sweater out in public, but those people are cowards. ;D

PK is a heinous snoozefest of fast fashion-looking oatmeal-colored everything. Now I do love me a good greige minimalism personalityless sweater. They make me feel like a rich person instantly. That white one I knit up from my mystery yarn does this for me. I’m sure my copy of the Handsome Chris will too once I finish it.

But why on earth would I pay money for a pattern that’s like “Make the most boring basic sweater possible, but hold 57 strands of mohair together while you do it”? If I want to use hairy yarn to hide my mistakes, I can do that without paying someone else for the privilege.

I don’t have special beef with PK. Hers are merely the most popular of a wave of worthless patterns one should be able to devise for oneself just by looking at an example pic.

If they were fitted to a curvy figure or something, I’d understand: those calculations are a nuisance, and it makes sense to pay for someone else’s time spent figuring out the increases and decreases. But these things are uniformly rectangular sacks designed to hang attractively off of a pencil thin figure wearing leggings. It’s the rich lady doing errands before yoga look.

This kind of sweater doesn’t even look hand-made in the high fashion way. All of them look like they came from the mall. Just shop at a thrift store if you want fast fashion but don’t want to support the industry actively! Or freehand them!

I also think the entire trend of holding yarns together is stupid as fuck. I’d rather pick the correct weight of yarn for a project. I’m unimpressed with how much of it is about getting a halo on literally everything. This particular snoozefest (here for those who inevitably want to waste money on the pattern) is fingering + lace. Just get a fucking DK yarn, a hairy one if you must!

I don’t need 3XL (though, yes, I hear PK was a bitch about adding more sizes), but I do have actual T&A, so I don’t care about the taste of the no butt-having boxy sweater lovers. You see the same thing, only less beige, from Tayler of Wool Needles Hands. I find her entertaining, and I think her taste in sweaters looks great on her, but it’s less suitable for me.

Skeindeer actually has boobs and a tummy, so I have more confidence that the basic shape she’s thinking of first is closer to what I want. And her aesthetic is not shapeless bag hanging from shoulders. I don’t think she does a ton of shaping, but her patterns are designed to look good stretched over a body with some curves.

What I’m actually knitting right now is the Cassidy, which looks bland as fuck but was recommended to me by a college knitting club friend for its subtle but effective shaping.

If I want to wear a giant-ass rectangle, I can just open any of my knitting books from the 90s and knit the lovely cabled sweaters therein. Or I’ll freehand it because knitting an oversize sack in a drapey yarn is easy.

Let's be honest, he'd probably be shocked and confused at first but wouldn't mind.

He may not say it but he's really good with art.

He paints most of your masks when they need a new paint job.

Now Mercy, even if there is no cure, she'd help with whatever she can.

She'd probably try to see if there's a cure, not out of spite or being mean, just out of the fact that she's a doctor, she's curious and truth be told her approach about it all is super sweet.

She likes to kiss your hand as a sign of respect and love.

She will hug you a lot.

She loves watching over you in battle, your own guardian angel.

SHE WILL FLY OFF WITH YOU IF NEED BE.

If you're out in public and your mask falls for some reason or broke, she will cover for you.

Overall she's a deeply caring lady and she would literally die for you.

She also shows that she loves you by writing little letters for you before she leaves for work, or she leaves little craft things she made which are always cute and always say something super sweet.

Your room is filled with her craft pieces.

For dates, if you're comfortable you can go out in public, or stay at home watching movies or shows. Either way she's down for whatever.

She spoils you when she can, either with food, little gifts, or something you mentioned you wanted. she will remember that and she will give you whatever you wanted at that time. <3

SO me and my friend went down this rabbit hole and how the different Overwatch and Valorant characters would interact with each other and I've come here to share bc i love it so much;

Moria and Viper would just get along bc they're women in science and they both experiment on men (i.e. Sigma and Omen respectively).

Omen and Reaper would meet and do the spider man meme.

Torbjorn would bother Cypher and Killjoy about their tech and try to convince them to let him tinker with it.

Killjoy would be super interested in Torbs turret since it differs from hers. She'd have them fight which would lead to the establishing of an underground turret fighting club where people could be on turrets and even submit their own.

Sombra would bet on turrets and then hack the one she wants to lose. Or take bribs to hack ones for others.

Reinhardt and Breach would convince everyone that Orisa is their turret and she'd go along with cause of how happy it makes them.

Sigma would find out but not stop her as it makes her happy. But he would tend to any injuries she sustained durning the fight.

Astra and Zenyatta would be off in a corner discussing philosophical stuff and other wonders of the human mind and world.

Tracer, Jett, and Neon would all establish a track and feild club just to race each other all the time. Neon and Tracer would also be facisnated with each others suits.

Soilder and Brimstone would just be overseeing everything like proud dads as all their kids mingled.

Raze, Lucio, and Junkrat would all hang out as friends. Raze would be hesitant of Junk at first but Lucio would convince her he's a good pereon and they'd make gernades together. Lucio and Raze would bond over music and they'd exclusive speak in Portuguese together (they'd light heartedly gossip about the others, talking about silly things).

Sage would get along with all the healers but she'd be more inclined to hang out with Mercy, Baptise, and Ana.

Skye would be super interested in Winston and Hammond as they are smarter animals that can communicate.

Kay/o and Bastion would get along and communicate in beeps.

Cassidy, Ashe, and Phoniex would all be a little group of friends. They'd spend a lot of time betting on the underground turret fights and laughing at each others wins and losses. Phoniex would light cigarettes for Cassidy, but still get mad at him for smoking. And lastly, Cassidy and Ashe would somehow convince Phoniex to join a life of crime and he'd do it for fun.

Cypher, Fade, and Sombra would all get along since they're all about secrets and knowing everything. They'd attempt to blackmail each other even though they aren't know everything about each other, they just won't admit it.

That's all the ones we could think of, they're a bunch of Overwatch characters missed and a handful of Val agents we missed. If you guys can think of any others feel free to share them or maybe you have your own idea of how they'd interact share those too! I had a ton of fun coming up with these with my friend :D

What are your headcannons and predictions for the final season?

I know the final season's already started (I'm sorry!!) but I don't really have that many apart from what I believe has been established and is just waiting for a pay-off. But here's my list of thoughts at random for yewww:

As much as I'm not really a huge fan of this storyline, Uncle Nicky and Sally will most likely get married and she'll probably show up as the driver in the white van at the Rebecca flash-forward. She is also probably with Kate, Philip and the kids. The logistics of why that's the case though, I have no idea lol

Miguel will d-word (and I will cry about it 5evs). No, but it's just a natural progression anyway leading up to the Rebecca flash-forward. Miguel would've been quite old by then anyway so if he doesn't die through natural causes, then it may be something to do with his health too as an old man.

I'm 50/50 about this but I can see Deja and Malik actually making it. They're level-headed, mature kids who I can see can make the distance. It can fulfil that trope of high school sweethearts eventually ending up together forever unlike you know who (Voldemort)

Randall will become a congressman or some higher-level politician based on his The New Yorker article. Whether he makes it or not in the Senate and/or higher can go either way.

Kevin and Madison get married and they start Big Three Homes together, fulfilling Jack's dream of him and Rebecca doing it together. Depending on whether Kevin still juggles his career in entertainment or not, they may still split their time between L.A. and Pittsburgh.

In saying that, given Kevin and Kate's bond and eventually their children's too, I'm more inclined to think that Kevin and Madison will definitely split their time between L.A. and P.A. and Uncle Nicky and Sally may opt to move to P.A. to accompany/take care of Rebecca and Miguel. It's kind of a full circle for them ending back in P.A. after the Cali, Woodstock trip they were supposed to go to together when they were young.

I'd like to think that Toby lives in the East Coast given how quickly he arrived at Kevin's house in the Rebecca FF so his job may have relocated him there or he just took a job that's a bit further away from Kate and her new life with Philip. In saying that though, that sucks if he's that far away from his kids, but it can be an opportunity for TIU to show families who are like this in real life and who manage to make it work somehow.

Beth continues to be a BAMF with her ballet studio. I'm interested to see whether Annie pursues this as well though since she was interested in it. A mother-daughter passing of the torch sounds perf since Tess kind of takes that on with her dad by doing social work and all.

It's a toss up between Cassidy reconciling with her husband or not, but they manage to make it work and she finds fulfilment and happiness in whatever she's doing. I'd like to hope that they do reconcile though and Cassidy gets her "happy ending". I do not want them to spend much time with this at all though. I hope it's just a passing comment or something later in the season when she meets with Kevin again somehow and this time she helps him find his "way home" (Madison) like he did for her and that "happy ending" they both wished on each other.

Agnes Sands, Courier Six of the Mojave Express

A) Why are you excited about this character?

Agnes was an opportunity to create what felt like a very unorthodox OC, and it’s an opportunity that has certainly paid off. She’s not young, and she’s not a particularly pleasant or easygoing person to be around, but she’s also not the endearingly tragic loner type or a badass army-of-one. She’s not “spunky” or “fun” and isn’t the kind of Fallout character who’s necessarily motivated to do every quest, meet every companion, accomplish every thing. She’s not an important person; being an important person is anathema to her, and the looming, overarching themes of It Keeps Right On a-Hurtin’ are these ideas of the hard limits on unlikely heroism, and how you really can’t fly that far on circumstance and luck. I’m very excited for everyone to see how it goes when the going gets tough.

Furthermore, the design and writing process for Agnes was very informed by finding justifications, reasons, and origins for all of her personality traits, skills, and various hang-ups. The result is a character that feels, to me, so deeply real and well-rounded and alive, that Agnes is a person who has lived every one of her 34 years of age, and that in each of those years were key developments that molded her into the person she is. When I write her, I feel like I know her because of how intimately I’ve researched and come to understand the life she’s led. I don’t want to say it comes effortlessly, but there’s a very genuine, sculpted depth to her character that I’m proud of, and it forms the bedrock of It Keeps Right On a-Hurtin’.

It is also very important to me that Agnes is a trans woman, and is a trans woman who looks the way she does with a strong jaw and a big nose and long face and a wide body and hairy arms and so many other “masculine” features, because I wanted to create a character with a very real, visceral, visible transness to them, and for this transness to be a meaningful part of her character that informs her relationship to other people and the scarce world of the Mojave Wasteland instead of just an auxiliary character trait. She is no less of a woman for existing the way she does, but I simply wasn’t interested in creating a character or interpreting the Mojave Wasteland in a way that wouldn’t meaningfully grapple with what it really feels like, to me, to be a trans woman.

B) What inspired you to create them?

Many of Agnes’ character traits actually come from mechanical and specialization decisions that I play in game. I often joke that Agnes “just plain sucks,” but it’s true that in my Fallout: New Vegas game, I have encumbrance set to a measly 25 lbs without backpacks (necessitating her shoulder-slung duffel bag), use a directional flashlight instead of the Pip-Boy light (necessitating the shoulder-mounted flashlight), play with dramatically decreased total S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and skill points per level (which is why she’s so bad-to-average at most things except key specialties), and so on. This was the most obvious level of inspiration, and much of Agnes’ personality and backstory is reverse-engineered to justify the aspects of her character suggested and represented by her mechanical stats.

C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story?

Epiphanies have come over time, but ultimately I more or less hammered out Agnes’ whole “story” upfront. I have a detailed character bible saved away that covers not only her entire life pre-courier, but the story beats of her experience as the courier thrown into the center of the events of Fallout: New Vegas and the seismic geopolitical power plays leading up to the second battle of Hoover Dam. So, uh, stay tuned for each new issue of IKROAH!

D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

I wouldn’t say that I’ve meant to meaningfully change her appearance over time, but as I’ve been working on the comic, I’ve simply gotten better at drawing and the result has been an Agnes that more consistently looks like how I want her to look. One deliberate change to her appearance has been that her hair is a lot fluffier and voluminous than it used to be, just because a few other peoples’ fanart of her would be like that and I really liked how it looked.

E) Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you?

Hard to say. Agnes has such a defensive, prickly, and particular personality and is so shy and anxious that she’s someone very hard to get along with in general, regardless of who you are. Cass could only ply her through a combination of drunken genuineness and total embarrassment that razor-cut right to her trauma. I don’t think I’d have the...audacious wherewithal to be that blunt with her if we’d just met. The best case scenario is that she imprints on me as a younger trans woman and feels compelled to look out for me because if there’s one soft spot she has, it’s that.

F) What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)?

Pride at the amount of work I’ve put into developing her and crafting her story so far, pride at how it’s been such a rewarding and enjoyable vehicle for getting so much better at art and writing since this summer, and occasionally sadness just because, man, I really let her fucking have it sometimes, huh.

G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most?

Her solitary lifestyle made it necessary to find a way to write Cass into the story, just so that there would be some more dialogue while she traveled. She has a lot of interpersonal flaws, her habit of going from totally reclusive and private to hollering mad with no steps in between would certainly be off-putting to me especially. She gets a bad, sad, crying kind of angry, and she doesn’t get there quick but she goes get there suddenly.

H) What trait do you admire most?

She has a dedication to her and a commitment to what she’s good at. She understands the value of stability, good work and a good job. Sometimes this value is so much to her that it keeps her stagnant, and she’s very much a person who’s stuck in their ways in so many regards, but there’s a resilience to her that may not be obvious at first, but that she simply wouldn’t have gotten this far or survived without.

I) Do you prefer to keep them in their canon universe?

Agnes’ story is so tailored to the source material of Fallout: New Vegas that I thought that transplanting her into other AUs would be difficult, but it’s actually been pretty seamless inserting her into the a modern AU with a few friends called Courier House, where instead of being a courier, she kept up her medical training and works as an EMT. That also spun off into a modern zombie AU, which is just fun and tragic in a lot of juicy ways.

I also have a lot of thoughts on an AU in which she makes it to the Commonwealth, in which she’d become Nick’s partner at the eventually-renamed Valentine and Sands Detective Agency, helping to solve cases of burglary and theft, B&E, and advises on various security concerns. She’d also get extremely invested in tracking down missing children. There are a lot of parallels and dramatic development potential between Agnes Sands and Nick Valentine that I’d kill for more time to explore one day.

J) Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character?

I didn’t have to, no, but I chose to and at least filled in some holes. My theory on transitional health care in the wasteland is all my own (the Followers are the primary manufacturer and distributor of hormones, which can be inefficiently synthesized from Auto-Docs so they’re not impossible to find but are considerably rare) and I’ve taken some liberties in the IKROAH canon so far for convenience, such as Primm never getting taken over by convicts and the Cassidy Caravans buyout offer being a letter at the Mojave Express instead of something she’d have had to get personally from Alice McLafferty later on. Expect a lot more little twists like this in the future.

Going to a market in a small town while being on the run from the police probably wasn’t the smartest idea but Daniel and Chris wanted to have fun, and Sean didn’t want to go alone. So here Daniel, Sean and (y/n) were, at the Beavercreek market looking at Christmas trees.

“Hey, sorry for the wait. I wanted to talk to Daniel about… His powers,” Sean explained his brief absence. 

(y/n) nodded in understanding before leaning forward to press a quick kiss to the side of his head. They knew how stressed and worried he could get over the entire situation. So it was important to keep his spirits up along with Daniel’s.

“You’re doing your best, I can tell. Just relax, do whatever you do. Draw, be awkwardly cute, mumble song lyrics, just chill. Okay, honey?” (y/n) said.

Sean averted his eyes, a light blush scattering across his facial features. Even after a full year, he still wasn’t used to the assortment of nicknames (y/n) had given him. But to answer their question, he gave a shy nod, tucking his hands into his pockets to keep them warm.

“What are you gonna do?” Sean asked.

(y/n) breathed in a breath of fresh air, it was nice. They liked being outside in the open world for a change. The smell of the pine trees in the near distance gave the market a very comfy feel about it. Daniel and Chris were loving it, that was for certain.

“Talk to the locals, maybe meet a few friends, I don’t know yet. Try to keep an eye on the kids, okay?” (y/n) replied.

Sean nodded his head absentmindedly and watched as (y/n) walked away from him to go look at the little shops in a different area. He felt terrible about dragging them into this but was grateful that they stuck around so long to help out with Daniel and trying to get to Mexico.

(y/n) on the other hand, was trying to push the fear of the police finding the three of them and taking them to prison, they were doing that by aimlessly walking around and trying to enjoy a moment of peace from the small town.

(y/n)’s ears perked up lightly as soft music and a beautiful voice broke the silence of the market. (y/n) followed the music until their eyes found Cassidy, she was playing her guitar smoothly and singing softly. She didn’t gather much of a crowd but (y/n) listened to the entire song. Cassidy was quick to turn her attention to the one admirer that listened to her song.

“Thanks for listening. Not many people do that these days. Life’s too busy I guess,” She spoke. 

(y/n)’s eyes widened brightly as a smooth southern accent reached their ears, they almost reached up to touch their heart from how pretty it sounded. But that action would be a bit embarrassing. (y/n) fiddled with their fingers lightly.

“I uh, I don’t have any money to give you but that was a really pretty song… It was nice,” (y/n) stutterd over their words.  

Cassidy wasn’t shameful at the look over she did on (y/n), checking them out. Cassidy smiled, seeing how soft the stranger before her was.

“I’m Cassidy. What brings a pretty person such as yourself to a place like this?” 

(y/n) took a moment to let the sentence sink into their brain, they didn’t exactly get flirted with too much so they didn’t really know how to respond.

“I– wow– um, I’m (y/n) and… I’m just visiting some relatives for the holidays. What about you? You look like an interesting person,” They replied. 

(y/n) rocked back on forth on their heels, trying to stay a little warm in the cold weather. Cassidy slowly placed her guitar back into the case, knowing that she wouldn’t be playing so long as (y/n) continued to talk to her. The company was nice until her friend came back.

“I don’t really belong anywhere. A friend and I hop on trains as a means of transportation,” Cassidy said. 

(y/n) was most definitely interested in the conversation at this point. A bland town full of boring people, but Cassidy? She was something very different. It was no surprise that she was just passing through. 

“It’s fun and completely free,” Cassidy chuckled. 

(y/n) could only stare in wonderment. Sure, they had a loving and doting boyfriend but this was the first time that a very pretty girl had ever flirted with them directly. It was a nice change of pace, as long as nothing went too far all will be well.

“That sounds amazing. Do you ever get tired of it?” (y/n) asked.

Cassidy opened her mouth, ready to flirt or respond seriously, (y/n) didn’t know. But that was when a tall boy with a dog approached Cassidy.

“Alright, everything’s all ready to go… Who’s your friend?” He asked.

(y/n) could feel their ears turning red as he quickly checked them out. The second person in the past 10 minutes to do so.

“I’m (y/n). Hi,” They introduced themself.  

They awkwardly waved toward the taller male, feeling only slightly intimidated by his appearance. (Y/n)’s eyes jumped from Finn to the dog sitting near his feet. It couldn’t do any harm to touch him, right? 

“Is he friendly?” 

Cassidy stood up to be eye to eye with her longtime friend, wrapping an arm around his shoulders teasingly before she said, “Finn’s got a bit of a bark, but he won’t hurt you.” 

(y/n) laughed lightly before gesturing to the tame dog in front of them, “I was talking about the dog.” 

Finn gave Cassidy an annoyed look but smiled seeing how friendly his dog was with the newcomer. He knew that Cassidy was more into the suburban people but what if he was as well? It had been a while for either of them to have a nice comfort of someone nearby.

Finn let his eyes wander over (y/n)’s form as they took the initiative to pet the dog at his feet. He didn’t normally act like this but the innocent look of them and how flustered and tangled their words became as they fell from their mouth was so enticing. Not to mention that (y/n) seemed really sweet for someone who lived out in a small town like this.

Sean was sat at one of the many picnic tables, glancing up every now and then to get a good look at his partner to draw. They seemed a bit flustered from two pretty people talking to them but he wanted them to handle it. He didn’t want to go charging in because he was over jealous again. He needed to calm down. Drawing helped.

(y/n) slowly stood to their feet and met Finn’s gaze, he tilted his head to the side for a moment before asking an obvious question, “You wouldn’t maybe want to put another hole in my scoreboard, would you?” 

(y/n) gave the tall male standing in front of them a confused look. Scoreboard? Cassidy talked to Finn about how she had more on her scoreboard. Like it was a competition. Wait… (y/n)’s face flushed wildly. Oh! They meant hooking up!

“Oh… Oh! That’s – oh, wow… Um, I’m actually going to have to decline,” (y/n) embarrassingly admitted. 

Cassidy continued to hang off of Finn, her arm loosely draped over his shoulders as she leaned all of her weight into him but it didn’t seem to bother him one bit. He just asked (y/n) something quite personal, of course, they had to decline. They hadn’t even done that with Sean yet.

“It wouldn’t be surprising that you have someone. Girlfriend? Boyfriend?” 

Sean slowly closed his sketchbook, quickly walking over to where (y/n) and two homeless teens stood. They looked a little too flushed for comfort, and Sean was done looking around for a present for Daniel. He had something completely different for (y/n) of course.

(y/n) shifted from one foot to the other in nervousness. Of course, they were going to say that they had a significant other. One that they wouldn’t trade for anything.

“Um, I actually have a boyfriend who I love very much. Sorry,” (y/n) apologized. 

Sean smoothly placed a hand on (y/n)’s back, forcing himself into the conversation as he heard the last sentence left (y/n). He had no clue what they were all talking about but seeing how flustered and red (y/n) looked, it made him mad because he wasn’t the one to make them look like that.

“Everything okay over here?” His voice was strained and awkward, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to say to them right now and not after seeing the two other teenagers flirt with them. With his significant other.

“Sean! Hi, um… this is Cassidy and Finn. They’re pretty chill,” (y/n) introduced Sean to the two in front of them. 

Sean was still skeptical of course, his grip became a notch tighter on (y/n) but they didn’t seem to notice. Sean becoming clingy had become normal for them, it was nice having him cling to them at night to keep warm, but he was a tad insecure that they’d leave him for someone better.

And the two teenagers standing in front of him seemed like good candidates. Sean noticed how the two were looking at (y/n), flirty and inviting. But not on Sean’s watch.

“So, if you’re up for it, you’re more than welcomed to join us to Cali. your boyfriend can come too,” Cassidy offered, 

(y/n) brightened up instantly, train-hopping with Finn and Cassidy to California? That sounded amazing. They didn’t want to say no but the expression on Sean’s face screamed rivalry or envy. Sean maneuvered his hand to grab (y/n)’s instead of resting it on their back.

“Hey… we have a home here now. Remember? And–” Sean started to say before a look of shock and realization dawned over (Y/n), they almost forgot about him. Of course, they couldn’t leave him. That wouldn’t be right in any sense of the word.

“Daniel, right… “ (y/n) turned to Finn and Cassidy, an apology on their lips. “I’m actually going to have to say no. I’m sorry. Sean’s right, we actually have a home here.” 

Finn and Cassidy sighed a disappointment, they both wanted someone new on their trip and someone as soft and sweet as (Y/n) was the perfect person to choose from but that was life… (y/n) glanced to Sean, noticing the jealous look in his eyes and body language. It was very persistent from the second that he walked up. They’d have to deal with him after they said goodbye to Cassidy and Finn. (y/n) stepped away from Sean to approach the two closer. 

“I hope that we’ll meet again. It’s been really fun.” 

Finn slowly grabbed one of (y/n)’s arms and rolled the sleeves up to write down a number. Sean clenched his jaw but stood still. He could trust (Y/n).

“This is our burner cell number. Give us a call when you can. Well, see ya. Try to find us on the trains if you can,” Finn mentioned. 

(y/n) blushed lightly at the brief contact but waved lightly as they disappeared around the corner with the dog light on their heels.

They were gone.

“Okay, Sean, Honey… What’s wrong? You’re acting… jealous,” (y/n) asked. 

Sean’s face slowly blossomed into a light blush, the nickname combined with the scene that was just caused. He got jealous quite easily when it came to people flirting with (y/n). He wasn’t that confident to do that; flirt. 

“We were just talking, What’s the big deal.” 

Sean crossed his arms over his chest, showing (y/n) how upset he actually was with (y/n)’s new friends.

“Flirting. They were flirting with you,” Sean huffed. 

(y/n) sighed lightly but grabbed Sean’s hands lightly to tug him closer to them so they could lightly press a chaste kiss to his lips, they were chapped and rough but the perfect texture against (y/n)’s own lips.

“I promise that nothing was going to happen. I did like getting flirted by two pretty people. But there’s nobody else like you, I promise. Come on, let’s go find Daniel and head back before your grandparents find out.”

Evelyn Brent (born Mary Elizabeth Riggs, October 20, 1895 – June 4, 1975) was an American film and stage actress.

Brent was born in Tampa, Florida, and known as Betty. When she was ten years old, her mother Eleanor (née. Warner) died, leaving her father Arthur to raise her alone.

She moved to New York City as a teenager, and her good looks brought modeling jobs that led to an opportunity to become involved in the still relatively new business of making motion pictures.

She originally studied to be a teacher. While attending a normal school in New York, she visited the World Film Studio in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Two days later, she was working there as an extra, earning $3 a day.

She began her film career working under her own name at a New Jersey film studio then made her major debut in the 1915 silent film production of the Robert W. Service poem, The Shooting of Dan McGrew.

As Evelyn Brent, she continued to work in film, developing into a young woman whose sultry looks were much sought after. After World War I, she went to London for a vacation.

She met American playwright Oliver Cromwell, who urged her to accept an important role in The Ruined Lady. The production was presented on the London stage. She remained in England for four years, performing on stage and in films produced by British companies before relocating to Hollywood in 1922.

Her career received a major boost the following year when she was chosen as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars. Douglas Fairbanks Sr. signed her but failed to find a story for her; she left his company to join Associated Authors.

Brent made more than two dozen silent films, including three for the noted Austrian director Josef von Sternberg. One of these was The Last Command (1928), an epic war drama for which Emil Jannings won the first Academy Award for Best Actor and featured a pivotal supporting performance for William Powell.

Later that same year, she starred opposite William Powell in Paramount Pictures' (and her own) first talkie. Although one film, Interference (1928), did not live up to expectations at the box office, Brent played major roles in several more features, most notably The Silver Horde and the Paramount Pictures all-star revue Paramount on Parade (both 1930).

By the early part of the 1930s, she was busy working in secondary roles in a variety of films as well as touring with vaudeville shows. In 1936 she played William Boyd’s love interest/femme fatale in Hopalong Cassidy Returns. However, by 1941, her screen career was at its least prestigious point. Having become too mature for ingenue roles, and no longer in demand by major studios, she found plenty of work at the smaller, low-budget studios in B movies.

She photographed attractively opposite leading men who were also at advanced ages and later stages in their careers: Neil Hamilton in Producers Releasing Corporation's production Dangerous Lady, Lee Tracy in the same studio's The Payoff, and Jack Holt in the serial Holt of the Secret Service, produced by Larry Darmour for Columbia Pictures. Her performances were still persuasive, and her name was still recognizable to moviegoers that when marketing films theater owners often put her name on their marquees. In the early 1940s she worked in Pine-Thomas B action features for Paramount Pictures releases. Veteran director William Beaudine cast her in many such productions as well, including Emergency Landing (1941), Bowery Champs (1944), The Golden Eye (1948), and Again Pioneers (1950). After performing in more than 120 films, she retired from acting in 1950 and worked for a number of years as an actor's agent.

She returned to acting in television's Wagon Train for one episode in 1960, "The Lita Foladaire Story", starring Ward Bond and Diane Brewster. Brent played a housekeeper.

Evelyn Brent was married three times: to movie executive Bernard P. Fineman, to producer Harry D. Edwards, and finally to the vaudeville actor Harry Fox for whom the foxtrot dance was named. They were still married when he died in 1959.

Brent died of a heart attack in 1975 at her Los Angeles home. She was cremated and interred in the San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, California.

In 1960, Brent was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a motion pictures star for her contributions to the film industry. Her star is located at 6548 Hollywood Boulevard.

the character i least understand

Fred. I just do not vibe with him. He’s okay in the original series but Mystery Inc Fred was just a mess and BCSD Fred is annoying as hell with his control freakishness. And in the original he didn’t have much personality (not that any of them did but still). He has always been a mystery of a character to me.

interactions i enjoyed the most

Velma and Daphne interacting is just really cool a lot of the time. The original series are a little... bland from character development PoV so there isn’t that much there but I really liked their relationship in Mystery Inc. I do not recall a lot from the other reboots but they’ve had really cute moments in some of the movies as well. Ooh, and live-action Daphne and Velma interactions are the best!

the character who scares me the most

I guess the werecats from Zombie Island. I have watched it only once and I do not want to repeat because they really freaked me out.

the character who is mostly like me

Velma. I don’t have her IQ but her personality (when she has it) is a lot like me tbh. Especially Mystery Inc Velma but live-action Velma is also very close to me.

hottest looks character

I have always loved Daphne’s design, especially in Mystery Inc (can you tell that’s my fave reboot by the number of times I have already mentioned it?). She’s really beautiful.

one thing i dislike about my fave character

I actually don’t like the fact that they make Velma more... bitchy in the newest reboots. Like, original Velma had her sass but she was actually pretty chill and cared about her friends. Mystery Inc Velma was an emotional wreck (like the rest of them) but at least she had some moments that really showed her love for the gang. BCSD Velma seems a lot more distanced from the rest and that bugs me a little.

one thing i like about my hated character

I... don’t really have a hated character in Scooby-Doo. Not one I can remember anyway. Any of the clown monsters but I don’t have a favorite thing about them so...

a quote or scene that haunts me

Well, Scooby Doo isn’t all that deep. Well, Mystery Inc kinda was actually but I cannot really think of something that is ha... Oh, wait, Cassidy Williams’ death in Mystery Inc was actually pretty haunting. Like, that scene where they find her broken swimming gear and you don’t actually see her die but you know she did and it hits really hard after she promised that she’ll be right behind them because she swims very fast. It brings out tears even now although I have watched that so many times at this point.

a death that left me indifferent

There isn’t that much death on Scooby Doo and the ones that I can remember were actually pretty impacting so... Idk what to put here.

I... don’t really have one? Like, no one in Scooby Doo is that annoying (I just want to put a disclaimer that I have watched the series with Scrappy but I do not remember them so this might be subject to change if I rewatch them).

I guess Daphne and Velma (since Shaggy and Velma and Daphne and Fred kind of did in Mystery Inc). I kinda ship them but I also don’t mind that they’re just friends.

Tamara. Like, what the fuck was her goddamn problem? They never really gave her good motivation for being the absolute bitch that she was and I still want to punch her in the face every time I see her on screen to this very day.

Regina and Facilier XD But if we’re talking non shippy, then probably Ruby and Granny. Ooh! And Mal and Lily. Even though we didn’t see much of either. I just loved those relationships so much. And I love the hell out of the Frozen Swan dynamic. And of course, Regina and Zelena. Ugh, it’s impossible to pick just one! There are so many good relationships. And some that are just interesting (Henry and Rumple and Emma and Rumple for example).

the character who scares me the most

I guess Pan was the scariest villain even though I can’t say that he particularly made me feel scared. None of them really made me feel scared but he felt like the biggest threat... Possible contender for this would be Gothel. But again, I wouldn’t say I was truly scared by any character.

Regina used to be when I was watching it. Now I am not too sure. There have been some major changes and I don’t know if that still holds true.

Well... Regina. And Maleficent as well. So I was basically dying when they were on screen together.

The way that she just fell so hard into hypocrisy in the later seasons (I’m talking about Regina). Season 6 Regina was a fucking mess also with splitting herself in two and blaming Zelena for something that wasn’t her fault. But season 6 was a mess in general and I have elected to ignore it.

one thing i like about my hated character

Well, my most hated character would probably be the Blue Fairy but there isn’t anything I like about her. Also, Tamara, but again - I cannot think of anything I like about her.

Too many to choose from. But I guess something that will always haunt me in the worst way possible would be Facilier’s death because it was just so goddamn unnecessary and stupid. I have not gotten over it and I don’t know if I ever will.

Well... Greg’s death. It just didn’t really have anything to it for me. Tamara’s death was actually more emotionally impacting because of her interaction with Rumple. I am not saying that I liked it. It actually made me like her even less because she was all high and mighty while she thought she had the upper hand but then started crawling and begging once things weren’t in her favor anymore and that is always something that puts me off. But it definitely evoked more emotion.

You know what? I’m just gonna say it. They should have just let the Blue Fairy die.

Boy, too many to count. But I guess that Red Queen is the one that I will always hold closest to my heart. (Dragon Queen was implied so I count it as one that sailed.) Also, honorable mention to Drizella x Gretel 2.0 because they deserved better!

Happiest Day AU

Who are we?

We are two adult nerd artists and close friends who are passionate about fnaf, its lore and bastard rats with issues and have a knack for angsty redemption arc stories :D

What is this AU about?

This AU will be about a slightly canon-divergent alternate timeline to fnaf, where William will - after some confrontations - end up seeking a means of redeeming himself for his crimes. Henry, Michael and Charlie aka the Marionette/Puppet alongside Cassidy will play key roles in his development and each get development themselves too. It's going to be a long and rocky road with no guarantee of success. - we may love us a good redemption arc, but we won't pull punches, this is a child serial killer we're talking about after all.

Small note: while we've done plenty of research to keep this story as compliant to canon as we can despite the intentional creative liberties that make this an AU, we will not factor in information from the Fazbear Frights books on account of neither of us having read them. Any similarities between their stories and ours are coincidental and any contradictions entirely unintentional.

Contributions of Attachment Trauma to Dissociation, Suicidality, and BPD

This past weekend at the ISSTD conference Dr. Lyons-Ruth presented on the topic of attachment trauma and its contributions to Borderline Personality Disorder features and suicidality in adolescence and adulthood. 

I feel it may be well known by now that disorganized attachment is significantly related to adult dissociation even when controlling for child abuse. Dr. Lyons-Ruth presented information regarding maternal communication and its impact on infant attachment styles and regulation later in life, so I wanted to try to summarize some of the really interesting/important points. I’ll do my best to make it organized and easy to follow, but it isn’t my strong suit :’) (Also, i’m just using the citations that she listed. If you can’t find an article, feel free to reach out and I can try to find it and link it). 

First, rodent studies have shown us that the caregiving environment during infancy plays a crucial role in dysregulation of the stress response system in adulthood. (Francis et al., Science, 1999; Champagne et al., Physiol & Beh, 2006; Weaver and Meany, 2000). 

So, Are there developmental predictors in infancy of adult BPD traits and suicidality?

Yes! 

1. Caregiver as the regulator of infant fear and distress

2. Teaching, basic care, & play- not necessarily attachment related

Both of these aspects play into the attachment style that the infant will develop with their caregiver. The attachment style can be assessed using the strange situation procedure, which if you’re not familiar with already just google it. In normative studies using this assessment, 85% of infants displayed an organized attachment style (secure, avoidant, ambivalent). 

The other 15% displayed disorganized attachment which can be seen by the infant expressing dysphoric affect (depressed, fearful), conflict behaviors (freezing and stilling, slowed movements), disoriented behaviors (wandering, confused expressions), and odd, unexpected combinations of distress, avoidance and approach toward the caregiver. (Main & Solomon, 1990). 

So the next question to ask is, is maternal caregiving behavior associated with infant disorganization?

Yes it is!

A measure known as “Maternal Disrupted Affective Communication” has been shown to have good validity in relation to infant disorganization. The five dimensions it assesses include: 

1. Negative-intrusive behavior (mocks/teases infant)

2. Role confusion (draws attention to self when infant is in need)

3. Contradictory affective communication (talks in inviting voice but physically blocks infant’s access, e.g. holding a newspaper) 

4. Disorientation (confused, frightened, odd affect with infant)

5. Withdrawal (interacts from distance, silent, walks around infant)

A study looked at which of these aspects best predicted BPD features and suicidality and found that Withdrawal was the only significant predictor, accounting for 18% of variance in the criterion. (Lyons-Ruth, Bronfman, & Parsons, 1999). 

The “Withdrawing Profile” was described as:

A. Lack of parental initiative around attachment (doesn’t initiate greeting or comfort)

B. Delayed responding 

C. Cursory responding (hot potato- pick up, put down right away)

D. Directs infant away from self to toys

E. Distanced interaction (from across the room)

F. Little or no hostility or intrusion 

Early maternal withdrawal also significantly predicts:

-extent of borderline features (.48**)

-recurrent suicidality (.30*)

-substance abuse (.49**)

-conduct symptoms (.40*)

-eating disorders (.34*)

-antisocial personality disorder (.30*)

(Pechtel et al., Int. J. Cog. Ther., 2012;

Shi et al., Inf. Mental Health J., 2011;

Lyons-Ruth et al. Psychiat. Res., 2013;

Dutra et al., J. Nerv. Ment. Dis., 2009;

Lyons-Ruth et al., Att. & HD, 2014). 

With all of this in mind, we know that childhood abuse is also related to BPD and suicidality. Does late childhood abuse account for the effect of early maternal withdrawal on borderline features?

No!

These two factors have independent effects on the criterion, meaning even after we add child abuse to the model- maternal withdrawal is still a significant predictor of borderline features as well as suicidality (Lyons-Ruth, Bureau, Holmes, Easterbrooks, & Brooks, 2013). 

So how do these effects show later in childhood?

Infant disorganization shows in school age children in three ways:

1. Controlling- caregiving (organizing, guiding, praising, entertaining parent)

2. Controlling- punitive (commanding, punishing, humiliating parent)

3. Behaviorally-disorganized (Odd, out-of-context behavior around parent)

Looking closer at the controlling behaviors- 

Early maternal withdrawal was a significant predictor (.43**) of caregiving behavior towards parent at age 8.

Early overall disrupted communication was a significant predictor (.39*) of punitive and disoriented behavior towards parent at age 8. 

(Cassidy & Marvin, 1991; Wartner et al., 1994; Main & Cassidy, 1988;

NICHD SECCYD, 2004; Bureau et al., 2009; O’Connor et al, 2012). 

Now what does this caregiving behavior from a child look like?

1. Child carries burden of creating interaction

2. Child structures the interaction

3. Child diffuses parent’s hostility

4. Child follows into parent’s focus of attention rather than vice versa

5. Child may entertain with overbright affect

6. Child may encourage and praise parent

Overall, the parent abdicates their parental role. 

The problem with this interaction style is that it impacts the child negatively, but is often seen by surrounding adults as a very mature child with no needed support or intervention. 

Moving from adolescence to adulthood and looking at how disorganized attachment styles relate to borderline features in young adults...

In a study consisting of disturbed young adult-parent interactions, disorganized and caregiving behavior characterized the interactions of the young adults who had BPD traits and recurrent suicidality. 

In addition, caregiving behavior was positively correlated with BPD traits and suicidality. (Lyons-Ruth et al., J. Pers. Dis., 2015)

 But why does a caregiving response of disorganized attachment lead to these outcomes? Because...

"The child is prematurely drawn into attempts to regulate the parent’s emotions and behavior and suppress his own directions.”

-Suppression of Self-Expression: Child less able to develop initiative, autonomy, mastery behavior, peer relations. 

-Unintegrated Experience: Child’s own experience remains unintegrated, with a resulting propensity to conflict and disorganization at times of stress.

-Guilt, Helplessness, and Rage: The premature burden of responsibility for monitoring and engaging the parent is very often associated with guilt, helplessness, and anger. 

-No Effective Parental Regulation: The parent is abdicating a regulatory role and failing to provide the comfort, responsiveness, and scaffolding that helps the child to develop more mature forms of emotional regulation. 

Now to get to adult dissociation...

Significant predictors of adult dissociation included:

-quality of early maternal care (.50**)

-verbal abuse (.26**)

(Dutra et al., 2009)

Aspects of Early Caregiving Contributing to Dissociation:

-Responsive interaction (-.34**) [For every increase in responsive interaction, risk for dissociation decreases]

-Emotional/Physical Withdrawal (.39**)

-Disrupted Maternal Communication (.49**)

A study by Byun, Brumariu, & Lyons-Ruth (J Traum Diss, 2016) showed that adult dissociation was positively correlated with both disoriented and caregiving interaction styles. 

At 7 years old, maternal passive-withdrawal was a significant predictor of caregiving interaction at age 19.

At 7 years old, maternal lack of sensitivity, maternal passive-withdrawal, and maternal hostility were all significant predictors of disoriented interaction style at age 19. (Bureau, Easterbrooks, & Lyons-Ruth, Unpublished.)

To wrap things up..

-Disorganized attachment in infancy leads to caregiving, punitive, or disoriented interactions later on

-Disorganized attachment can be caused by disrupted maternal communication

-The strongest predictor of BPD traits and suicidality of the disrupted maternal communication assessment was maternal withdrawal

-Those who develop a disoriented or caregiving interaction style are more likely to experience dissociation, BPD traits, and recurrent suicidality 

-Disrupted maternal communication is significantly related to dissociation, BPD, and suicidality even after controlling for child abuse

Hopefully this illustrates the pathways to adult dissociation, BPD, and suicidality through attachment trauma in a more detailed manner.
