y'know it almost certainly has been said before and trans AUs are played out but I genuinely thinking making Zuko trans would add so much to his character and play off the family dynamics in ways that would both take his whole arc in fascinating directions and also slot in so perfectly

#this is probably more bc of the quality of tla than anything else tho a less robust world with the same character might not support it #still can you imagine how Azula would feel #about the favored firstborn son righteous but undeserving heir who had everything handed to him on a silver platter bc of his birth #and Still fucked it up because (in her eyes) he was too soft and pathetic and reliant on their mother... declares herself to be a girl?#while she--unloved and with all the odds against her--fought tooth and nail to get the station she deserved by merit and effort #but was denied by that same mistake of birth? and when she finally achieves it it is not bc she succeeded but bc Zuko failed utterly...#can you imagine how she'd feel when Zuko becomes firelord anyways?#can you imagine what it'd do to her to see Zuko start to resemble her mother?#obv she's a horrible person & all but frankly was I in a situation like that I think I'd eat my own organs
