Random callum crown question lmao
Is callum more of a villian or anti hero?
I was watching a few videos (iceberg videos and such) and he seems to be depicted more as a anti hero but you never know lol
This is an interesting question to answer as there's only 4 NPCs who provide opinions on Crown's character/impact on the world in DT, and 2 of those perspectives (Norm + Mingus, whose opinions are the more impassioned of the 4) are positive, 1 is vague (Gabby's, who gives a murkier, more distant/distrustful take on the guy) and 1 is a reaction of fear (God's, funnily enough.)
There's also a lil bit of information outside of what these 4 NPCs say (the quiz(es), a few lore posts I've made), but the contents of what I mentioned is basically all the audience really knows about Crown. All 4 of the perspectives above have some merit, though only Mingus and Norm's are bundled with context. It's therefore hard to know exactly where Gabby/God are coming from. It's useful to keep in mind that they were both alive at the time and clam up when he's brought up.
It's also important to note that Crown's visionary plan was never completed and thanks to his memory being erased, is now a total mystery. Whatever plans Crown had for humanity can only be found in one known place: inside Crown's head, which nobody knows how to unlock.
I feel like for a figure like Crown, someone who so fervently pursued his vision for a better tomorrow, an accurate judgement of the guy namely boils down to three things: if you believe his intentions were good, if you believe his mission (vision) was just, and if you think the inevitable collateral damage/mistakes that follow ANY human who isn't born into power, but seizes it through merit or ruthlessness, are excusable. You really have to dissect Crown's past actions during his ascension to power to answer these three questions fully, much of which was left mostly unrecorded to history.
I'm not gonna tell you what exact kind of character I think Crown is (though I know what I'd personally label him as.) What most can probably agree on is that he had very noble goals and he pursued them relentlessly and when needed, ruthlessly. Some saw him as tyrant, others as a saviour. People are rarely just one thing though.
