(ah, months ago when it was new i made this playlist with a song for each zee-dream you gain from Northern Wind and then promptly forgot to post it. better late than never-- i really loved these dreams.)
=======
A Dream of a Hearth. It's hard to see inside through the heavy glass panes and the fog of your own freezing breath.
> romance // apocalyptica
A Dream of a Door. Your feet carry you into the building – inside is an enormous ballroom, all chequered marble and candlelight. You are quickly surrounded by well-heeled guests, each one more opulently dressed than the last.
> that unwanted animal // the amazing devil but the wind has picked us up now, we're hanging in the air and as you grip me like an animal that you're about to spear "be good to me" i whisper, and you say "what?" and i say "nothing, dear."
A Dream of Rags. Before you, a crowd of guests has gathered, each one masked and dressed in finery. Your hair is matted and rimed with frost; you are gaunt and wretched. Nobody speaks.
> devil's resting place // laura marling i woke up one morning to know that i had gone finally taken the step and jumped right off the wall when you come to call on me, that's why my eyes are glazed i've been with the devil in the devil's resting place
A Dream of a Chandelier. All you see is a bright blur, white-on-white, in the middle of your field of vision. You try to will your eyes to close; when you do, that same brightness is still there, lurking behind your eyelids.
> burned out // dodie i am burnt out, i smell of smoke it seeps through her cracks and so i start to choke sentences sit in her mouth that are templated you waited, smiling, for this?
A Dream of a Quadrille. One guest bumps into you as they dance; you can sense their irritation at your presence, but they don't outwardly react.
> into the spin // dessa so here we go, back again slow climb but quick to descend arms out, arms out, turn into the spin it's lovely and brief with just gravity and me
A Dream of a Mask. The more you try to look away, the more you sink into those eyes lurking behind a spherical mask. What your words add up to is a mortifying declaration of love; a desperate overture.
> dieu que le monde est injuste // notre dame de paris mai laideur est une insulte à ta beauté insolente une erreur de la nature qui ne me fut pas aimante moi si laid et toi si belle... comment pourrais-tu m'aimer?
A Dream of a Cellar. You weave through the guests and emerge on the other side of the crowd. If there is more to this building than this one vast hall, you can see only a single door in the very far distance. On the inside, the door is all locks and deadbolts; you slam it shut and start locking each one behind you. The only light to see by is whatever leaks through the edges of the door.
> march // david wirsig i heard you screaming through the walls last night it seems you took a season trying to set things right, but still you close the curtains and draw the blinds then lie awake cursing every thought in your mind because you can't go back there again and you can't go on without him
#'you've always known you can't go back to the start / and so you live inside the moment when it all fell apart'#is a fair summary of the Bazaar; poor thing#fallen london#caladblog's awful playlist#(now THERES a vintage tag)

in honor of The Last Wolf 359, i made this minimalist playlist that i don’t know how to embed properly bc i am Old(TM)
RULES: one song for each of the eight main characters, no repeated artists, no songs from any of the official playlists.
TRACK LIST: eiffel / plain sailing weather / frank turner, minkowski / brother, sister / beta radio, hera / make me a robot / tessa violet, hilbert / arsonist’s lullabye / hozier, lovelace / marked man / mieka pauley, jacobi / i’ll be good / jaymes young, maxwell / evelyn / kim tillman & silent films, kepler / god’s gonna cut you down / johnny cash
details & runners-up under the cut
hope u enjoy
TRACK LIST
eiffel: plain sailing weather / frank turner
just give me one fine day of plain sailing weather and i can fuck up anything, anything it was a wonderful life when we were together and now i've fucked up every little god damn thing i've been skirting round the rim of doing something brave and not just standing but jumping in of making circles into squares, of laying down the bare facts like a burden i can't bear and i can almost find the words but i can see the way you'd fold your hands speak my name like a curse upon your pretty lips the pressured white behind your fingertips and when you see me for all that i am i couldn't make mistakes to make a difference anymore i'd throw myself down on my knees, in your hands and beg you for forgiveness for my fuckups and my faults and maybe you'd relent, release some hope for our forever lift up your precious hands and then bring yours and mine together so give me one fine day of plain sailing weather
minkowski: brother, sister / beta radio
in the chair by the window there i write my will on the windowsill and all i leave is for my family with whom i share my blood i share my name and love remember me when you're in the promised land no recompense forsaking all i've earned forsaking self-defense when time and space are finally parting ways the full eclipse of earth and my near ten-thousand days the new trombone, all rise, the kingdom come the stars outshine the moon and the moon points to the sun and when i fall, i fall in you all stars in skies, they shine on you
hera: make me a robot / tessa violet
i don't wanna be a person any more, i'm done i don't wanna make mistakes any more, he's won i'm too old to change take my heart, no new start, please just let me fall apart you may say it's strange but i quit, guess that's it, for a human i'm unfit i don't want to have to fight any more, i'm tired i don't want to have to feel any more, uninspired i am too worn out broken down, on the ground, i'm too shy to make a sound all i have is doubt i don't care, you can stare, cause a human can't compare
hilbert: arsonist’s lullabye / hozier
when i was a child i heard voices some would sing and some would scream you soon find you have few choices i learned the voices died with me when i was a man i thought it ended when i knew love's perfect ache but my peace has always depended on all the ashes in my wake all you have is your fire and the place you need to reach don't you ever tame your demons but always keep 'em on a leash
lovelace: marked man / mieka pauley
i will close my eyes, then three two one: the guilty hide, the guilty run i'll make you fly til the day i'm done know that i watch every thing you do and hope that i never stop watching you the day i stop is the day i'm through if you search your soul and it sets you free you're all contrite like you oughta be it might get you off, get you right with god but you'll never be right with me. you're a marked man, brother, a marked man, hey get right down on your knees and pray thank your lord i don't have my way you're a marked man, brother, you're a marked man
jacobi: i’ll be good / jaymes young
i thought i saw the devil this morning looking in the mirror, drop of rum on my tongue with the warning to help me see myself clearer i never meant to start a fire i never meant to make you bleed i'll be a better man today my past has tasted bitter for years now so i wield an iron fist grace is just weakness, or so i've been told i've been cold, i've been merciless but the blood on my hands scares me to death maybe i'm waking up today i'll be good, i'll be good and i'll love the world like i should yeah, i'll be good, i'll be good for all of the times that i never could
maxwell: evelyn / kim tillman & silent films
these lofty thoughts are killing me preoccupied by what i could be i get so high on my ideals don't cut me down but you can meet me where i land i've left the day in pursuit of lucid dreams now i drive for days to make my way back to those old familiar places the human voices wake us and we drown, and we drown seductive and impeccable abuse you do it to yourself, i bet you know you do i love you 'cause i do it to you too
kepler: god’s gonna cut you down / johnny cash
well my goodness gracious, let me tell you the news my head's been wet with the midnight dew i've been down on bended knee talkin' to the man from galilee he spoke to me with a voice so sweet i thought i heard the shuffle of angels' feet he called my name and my heart stood still when he said john, go do my will go tell that long-tongued liar go and tell that midnight rider tell the rambler, the gambler, the backbiter tell 'em that god's gonna cut 'em down

further proof that any playlist about lovelace, selberg, or the hephaestus mission 1.0 that lacks mieka pauley is FATALLY INCOMPLETE: we’re all gonna die
choice lyrics:
the scientists proved it we're all gonna die charts and equations how, when, why you did not invite them and neither did i but they're here, drink up, we're all gonna die i go do my laundry those docs are right behind me get lost in some party those creeps will always find me who are they, what is this? i mind my own damn business always there to remind me all about their findings i don't wanna go the way they say if i gotta go, let it be my way
#text posts#caladblog's awful playlist#wolf 359#seriously tho i am so offended by every lovelace playlist that doesn't have Marked Man on it#or at the very least I Haven't Even Started With You (but imo marked man seems a bit more her)

The Celestials: Nostalgia for the Surface and the green lands above. And most particularly for the sky and the heavens. Strong support among conservative sorts and the religious.
[sun / sleeping at last] [garden / elder island] [here and heaven / the goat rodeo sessions] [canvas of life / epica] [i love you / woodkid] [blue lips / regina spektor] [impossible year / panic! at the disco]
The Bazaarines: Money and secrets. The poetry of the Bazaar and its Masters, but also the hidden things that drive men to madness. A strong brew of the venal and the visionary.
[remember us / gabriel royal] [i was an eagle / laura marling] [battles / the spill canvas] [the spine / ashley barrett & darren korb] [king of the clouds / panic! at the disco] [divine intervention / taking back sunday] [money power glory / lana del rey]
The Nocturnals: Radicals who relish the freedom from traditional forms - and moralities - that the darkness of the Neath permits.
[a handsome stranger called death / foe] [werewolf heart / dead man’s bones] [dangerous game / lucy & jekyll] [sinners / barns courtney] [bedroom hymns / florence + the machine] [horns / bryce fox] [emperor’s new clothes / panic! at the disco]
[NOTES UNDER TH CUT]
q: wow you sure do have some fucking excellent taste in music!! was there anything that didn't make the cut?
how sweet of you to say that! and yes, because i was going for the neath's artistic movements, and not Fallen London itself. In All My Dreams I Drown by Jessica Lowndes & Terrance Zdunich is top of the list for zailing, and The Horror of Our Love by Ludo has a nice Seeker-y vibe, and The Dog & Her Reflection / Beautiful Stranger by The Devil's Carnival is my personal soundtrack for Spite, just to name a few.
q: how are these playlists ordered?
i tried to make each mix sort of the progression of an artist as they get deeper into the movement-- so the Nocturnals start out kind of hesitant and end up hedonist, and the Bazaarines start out cautious and end up grandiose, and the Celestials start out optimistic and end up melancholy.
q: Ś̴̟̜̻̈́̊͊È̴̢̨̹̝͕̥͝͝V̵̯͕̱͒͊̕ͅÊ̷͈̭͔̖̰͒ͅŅ̶̪͔͔̍ ̵̢̛͚̱̳̳͉̠͊̀̓̄̆̒I̷̡̼͉̠̍̈́̽̆ͅS̷̝̱̣̦̫̟̈́̏̒̾̎͗͜ ̴̙̀̾̎̾͝T̶̟͋̊̀͗̇̓H̶̢̻̱̠̠͋E̶̹̯̱͙̳̰̊̌͋̀͌ ̴̛̻̐̓͐̾̄̍N̸̰͕̦̂̓͑̕ͅU̶͍̬̮͙̱̟̿͊̂̒͜͠Ḿ̵̫̟͘ͅḆ̶̨͇̲͙̩̬̌̑̉̓̉͑E̵̫͗R̷̡̭͈̪̼͓̓͌͛͆
i swear to fuck i didn't plan this. yikes

one of my favorite parts of hamilton is that bit in Aaron Burr, Sir that’s all like
a.burr: don’t let them know what you’re against or what you’re for. you wanna get ahead? fools who run their mouths off wind up dead– laurens & lafayette & mulligan: *burst tf in* HEY YO WE’RE HERE TO RUN OUR MOUTHS OFF AND BE RELIABLE WITH THE LADIES laurens & lafayette & mulligan: AND WE’RE ALL OUTTA LADIES a.ham: I’VE FOUND MY PEOPLE a.burr: *looks into camera like he’s on the office*
tbh that scene is when i Knew that this fuckin musical would own my soul for the next several months

despite the many delicious lines (i know my sister like i know my own mind) (what i wish i had known/when i was young and dreamed of glory/you have no control/who lives/who dies/who writes your story) (when my prayers were met with indifference/i picked up the pen; i wrote my own deliverance) in the hamilton musical i think one of my favorite songs overall is Farmer Refuted
for people who can’t watch that video rn (altho you really should if you can, it’s a great effect) it starts off with this fancy-ass regency-esque music, you know the type, and this guy sings in this snotty high class voice:
Heed not the rabble who scream revolution They have not your interests at heart Chaos and bloodshed are not a solution Don’t let them lead you astray. This ‘congress’ does not speak for me, They’re playing a dangerous game I pray the king shows you his mercy For shame, for shame!
and like. is that not almost word-for-word what we heard during the protests in ferguson
as the guy repeats the previous verse, hamilton (played by a puerto rican guy) raps over him
He’d have you all unravel at the sound of screams But the revolution’s coming The have-nots are gonna win this It’s hard to listen to you with a straight face Chaos and bloodshed already haunt us Honestly, you shouldn’t even talk and what about Boston? Look at the cost and all that we’ve lost And you talk about congress?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
idk also i just really have a thing for songs in musicals that are conversations with multiple people singing over each other (see also: the confrontation between nathan & mag & shilo in repo! the genetic opera (yes i’m aware that i’m trash) and the confrontation between javert & valjean and One Day More in les mis)
#b: alexander; /please/#h: burr i'd rather be divisive than indecisive drop the niceties#text posts#hamilton musical#caladblog's awful playlist
