so i finished veilguard and ended up liking the ending more than i thought, gave it an 8/10 because it was fun to play even though it didnt feel like dragon age
now ive gone back to origins and honestly im demoting veilguard to 7/10. not only are the vibes of veilguard so far removes from origins that it feels like an entirely different world but like the sheer amount of stuff im allowed to do in just the opening sequence of the game is unmatched. i can walk up to random people and have an entire conversation with them, and if not they'll at least say something to me, versus veilguard NO ONE wants to talk to you. origins will literally give you an option to see more questions you can ask because they give you so many questions TO ask and veilguard struggled to fill the entire dialogue wheel. origins feels full of life and veilguard is so dead and quiet in comparison. i remember walking through the venatori celebration and it was so quiet, even though they're supposed to be celebrating, meanwhile origins always has some indistinct chatter or swordplay or SOMETHING in the background.
i also always got the feeling that veilguard wanted to rush me along. if i lingered somewhere, the characters would even tell me hey it's this way let's go. origins though i'll spend a half hour going in circles and alistair won't say shit. and he's right. i wanted to look at all the pretty stuff and see everything that's going on anyways. let me explore isn't that what you wanted.
#and like there IS just so much going on in origins#quests that can easily be glossed over if you don't hit the right dialogue option#caches and stuff that u need to follow written instructions to find#but. and this is key. none of this makes origins difficult or frustrating.#there's a lot more reading needed to understand the gameplay of origins too but i don't think it's a bad thing.#and its clear that origins gives you the option to skip past exposition if that's not your thing#AND THEY KEEP IT IN CHARACTER WHEN U DO IT.#idk man. i liked veilguard. fun and beautiful but it didn't feel like home to me.
