since temu has been gaining immense popularity and i’ve seen a bunch of people post temu tarot deck hauls on tiktok, this is your reminder to not purchase any tarot or oracle decks off of that site. they are 100% counterfeit decks. meaning the original creators are getting no money from that sale. these decks also most likely do not come with a physical guidebook and the card quality is trash! if you want a tarot or oracle deck that’s legit, buy from publishers! or directly from the artist if possible!

I hate finding things I would 100% spend money on but can’t out of principle because they’re reboot garbage. 😞

Take this backpack purse I found on eBay for example. It’s cool because 1) it’s Mojo, and 2) it has cute stylings like his name on the back and the blaster gun charm. It 3) also has that original weird Mojo Jojo logo thing that they used to use on old merch back in the day. If this was based off of the original design I might actually buy it!

However, it is BAD because 1) it’s based off of the reboot designs, 2) he looks like he’s wearing a crown from the side???, 3) the blaster gun is that horrible weak little Family Guy-styled one, 4) there’s some weird inexplicable illustration of reboot Mojo on the back for some reason. Like, it was a worthy attempt at a cool bag, but it’s a swing and a miss for a fan like me. Someone whose mind isn’t cursed with dumb knowledge about the various PPG designs would just be like, “Oh, cute, a Mojo bag,” and buy it, but it’s like, if you know you know. And I know.

I never understood how people could tell counterfeit products from the real ones, but I feel like this is the closest I’ll ever get to that feeling because, if I saw someone buy this, I’d just imagine them to be a very casual fan of the show and feel sorry for them. Not that that’s bad, I would just know they got it for the aesthetic of it rather than because of authenticity, if you get what I mean.

Marshall Merchandise Update!

I sometimes wonder if I should number these merchandise update posts, but I'm honestly not sure how many I've made since I first started doing this. Let's just pick a number at random and say it's #23.

In any case, I managed to add a few new items to my Marshall collection today. Nothing too big, but they're still pretty cool, imo.

Okay, so... I made a post last night about how I was lamenting the lack of holiday-themed PAW Patrol merchandise this year. Well, as it turns out... I'm a dummy, because I completely forgot about buying this thing a few weeks ago. I didn't show it off at the time because I wanted to have a few other items to show off with it.

Actually, when I first seen this thing on Ebay, I thought it was an older ornament. I'd never seen one like it before, and when I Google-searched it, the results came up empty. I thought I found another rare ornament, so I quickly snatched it up! You can imagine my surprise when I got it and, upon inspecting the tag... it said "2023". Oops. lol

In any case, this ornament's from "Primark". The tag even says it's hand-painted (you can kind of tell, honestly). Strangely, it's not listed on their site, unless I'm just looking in the wrong place. Only one has appeared on Ebay so far, and I haven't seen it anywhere else at all yet. Well, there's some store out there selling them, but I know not which one... all I know is I'm happy to have one. :)

Next, a "Slow-Rise Squishies". They also come in Chase and Skye, too.

Unless I'm mistaken, you can't find these in the USA right now. Yup, this is another imported item! From Canada, in fact (thankfully, the shipping was low). Admittedly, the likeness is pretty spot on, not to mention it's bigger than I expected it to be. I think it's pretty cool!

Last.... er... this thing. It's just something I randomly found on Ebay one day, so I decided to bid on it. Admittedly, it's also bigger than I expected (around 4 inches tall - the Squishies is slightly taller, at 4.75). Sadly, it's not in the best condition, but I can't say I'm too surprised. I'm honestly lucky to find any previously-owned item in good condition, especially given the age group these toys are meant for.

I'm not sure, but I suspect this thing may not be official. Typically, each item, even if it's a small piece in a set, has some sort of number or information on it. I've posted a few examples above, just to show you what I mean. This item, however, doesn't seem to have any such thing. Maybe there are exceptions, but chances are, it's an imitation you can find cheap somewhere. Despite that, I think it matches the character close enough, so I've no problem including it in my collection. It wouldn't be the first counterfeit in there (and likely won't be the last, since I still have my eye on a few I'd like to buy someday).

That's all for now! I can't say if I'll find too much more by the end of the year, so this'll probably be it for 2023. Chances are, the next items I show off will be the Jungle Pups toys, unless something unexpected pops up between then. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some of those Canadian-exclusive items... but I wouldn't bet money on that. lol

Tough life of a Kakashi goodies collector under sanctions. Part 1

My sad (but I’m still hoping for a happy end) Kakashi goodies parcel story 🥲

You don’t need to bother reading it, I am writing more for my own memory, because even as I wrote this I realised that I got the beginning of the story wrong because I’d managed to forget some of the details (which I did remember after I laid everything down here).

So, some of you might be aware, I come from an evil country that Must Not Be Named is currently at odds with a large chunk of the world… I am not going to debate who is right and who is wrong, though I definitely don’t support the war and in a way I humbly accept the corresponding punishment, though it’s still a bit sad since I never personally held any hate for anyone: I’m just trying to live my simple life, enjoy this world, be a decent person and mind my own business... but we have what we have, I guess...  

So anyways, last year, at the end of February, when it all collapsed, I remember I just made my final purchase on eBay – the next day the bank cards were cut off from the rest of the world and eBay cut us off as well (“this item does not ship to your country”). And that final item was Ninja Storm Kakashi action figure, insanely expensive and insanely gorgeous and desired by me...

I nearly had a fit while reading the news updates. Not to mention the general devastation at the absurdity of the situation… it all seemed surreal… 

I was almost certain I would not be getting my parcel and would end up losing my money: payment systems shut (no way to refund), deliveries halted, eBay no longer available. 

But, to my surprise, the parcel did arrive (probably because the seller was in China). And that was basically the beginning and the end of my Kakashi collection back then. I held on long enough convincing myself that I did not care enough for Kakashi to buy merch (bought perhaps 3 small items or so and was totally content with that), but I gave up around January-February 2022, so it was supposed to be the start of my crazy ‘serious’ collector career, haha.

To be honest, I was even relieved when we were banned everywhere – if I still had the same level of access to international purchases, I think I would have gone broke pretty fast, because if I get into something... I become almost uncontrollable. And since I’d basically just got into collecting Kakashi items... So yeah, those sanctions and limitations came in handy, I admit.

I did order minor things from AliExpress, still works with us, but they either sell mostly counterfeit trash, or really overpriced original stuff – so it was nothing really serious (*she said glancing back at her Kakashi collection which is still 60% from AliExpress*).

Anyways, I was sitting happily with my hands tied, my money almost safe, but then I was stupid enough to finally accept a commission request from a foreign customer for the first time since the war began.

I need to mention that alongside with our bank cards being cut off from the rest of the world, our PayPal accounts were also suspended. Well, mine is technically still alive, but I’m pretty sure that I cannot link any new card to it, or, if I can (I have a Kazakhstani card now), the account will be suspended immediately, so I’m not even going to test that. 

Plus, I heard that it is also illegal in my country to have transactions via PayPal now (similar way as it is illegal to even mention Instagram...). 

So this made it a bit tricky accepting payments from foreign clients. And in the last year I had to refuse quite a number of times because of that, I got overwhelmed every time I thought of having to deal with it... I don’t do art for a living, so I didn’t really bother too much about that and considered my mental health more important (it’s a bit challenging constantly struggling because you are basically an outcast). 

But this time for some reason (perhaps I finally got over it – it has almost been a year) I didn’t refuse and decided to test a couple of options. First one was getting paid via a platform similar to Patreon which worked in my country. It did work, but the % the platform charged for the transaction was insane. 

And then I had the second option… A gift card on eBay. 

And this was where I made the mistake…

I was thinking that I had it all covered because I met a girl who was about to move back from the USA. I had selected 3 items on eBay that were so tiny that this girl had no problems at all bringing them back with her.

What I did not expect was that in order to use a USA gift card, I had to be localized in the USA. When I tried creating a US eBay account, I was instantly banned and after trying to object the decision I was specifically told that the decision was final and any attempts to create more accounts would result in them getting suspended as well. I tried checking out as a guest using VPN with a US IP, but eBay still figured it out somehow, and I was not allowed to finalize the payment and check out...

So yeah, I ended up having a $75 eBay gift card (and I still have it, haha) and a strong desire to get the items I laid my eyes upon. I was fixated on getting them... And actually as time went by (while I tried to find ways to hack the system), my appetite grew and soon what was initially 3 small items became 9 items.

And so, at that point I felt already too shy to ask my friend for help with buying them for me, because not only I needed her help with the purchase, but also she’d have to receive 9 parcels, unpack them, etc... and… uh... um... see how crazy I am with my Kakashi fever 🙈 Not to mention that she was moving back after 3 years abroad and probably every cm / gram mattered…

So I started looking into other delivery possibilities...

How to spot fake Vivienne Westwood 🪐

As a person who sells and buys from online platforms and apps such as Vinted, Wallapop, Ebay and Etsy, I’ve encountered my fair shade of counterfeit luxury items. Although this phenomenon is very common for renown brands (such as Gucci, Prada, Dior etc) I’ve never seen such high rate of fake products as I did for Vivievve Westwood. Often, this merch can look very, very similar to the original design to an inattentive eye, which can lead many people to buy a copy for an exorbitant amount of money. Since scammers make my rage flare, I want to make a guide for online buyers on how to spot a fake VW jewel.

1. the price seems too good to be true? it is.

first thing first: keep an eye on the price. if there is an item that the original site is selling for 140€, it is unlikely that one specific seller online is giving away one for 40€. especially if it’s marked as “new”, there is no way they could’ve paid it less than the price they’re selling it at. it’s better to look for products with a price that is more trustworthy: for example, for a necklace sold at 140€ on the official website, it would be legit to find a new item for 115-135€ and a used item for about 100-115€. of course there are exceptions to this rule, many people may be eager to sell away unwanted gifts or stuff they don’t use anymore, but they would never drop the price to 1/3. here below, an example:

2. no logo on the necklace clasp? red flag.

the high majority of Vivienne Westwood’s necklaces (if not all) share this common trait: the clasp presents the iconic orb logo. all the clasps are usually refined, and likely present themselves in a almost-rectangular shape, rather than the most common drop. so, if these characteristics lack, something’s probably off. zoom in on the pictures below to notice the difference from a fake and the real thing.

3. two bigger hoops? good sign.

this rule may have exceptions of course, but usually Vivienne Westwood colliers that include a chain present on it two bigger hoops that makes it easier for the clasp to close, making it possible to choose from two different lengths. this is especially valid when talking about necklaces found in the women’s category rather than men’s and unisex jewelry. notice in the two pics below how the first one checks for the clasp but not for the hoops.

4. tag? yes please.

when buying a Vivienne Westwood necklace or bracelet, keep an eye on the tag of the chain: first of all, it has to be present. no matter if the seller tells you they cut it off themselves to better balance the pendant, it’s a red flag. second, there must be no outline, just the clear and legible VW signatures, on both sides (usually one with the orb). third, it has to hand from the last hoop, not in the middle of the chain.

5. you may not buy a products for its packaging, but oh doesn’t it help?

what? they’re selling you an item but not the dustbag and the box because they already sold them? it’s likely a scam. of course there are people who will buy just the package to add to their collection or to scam other buyers with their fake cheap items, but what good would it be for an honest seller to ship the jewelry without its case? so, be careful and give your trust to who assured you you’ll get a dustbag, a box, and a certificate. and also, regarding the packaging, you have to remember:

a. there is only one original dustbag, all the others are likely fake: it is beige with the black orb logo and black ribbon.

b. it doesn’t matter if they show you an online receipt, they can be easily falsified.

c. it doesn’t matter if in the picture of the article they show you they own the dustbag and box, because they likely belong to another jewel in their possession.

unfortunately, there are online platforms that sell fake vivienne westwood items with boxes and bags included that look very alike to the original ones. be careful with those and try apply the other rules to discern scam from legit.

6. the online platform you’re buying it from is a business card for the product you’ll get.

don’t get me wrong, I love Etsy, you can find a whole lot of incredibly talented artists on there what will sell you exquisite items, but is it a good choice when you’re looking for authentic luxury jewelry? usually sites as Etsy and Aliexpress or even Amazon will sell you fake design jewelry, but often making you very aware of the fact it’s a fraud. at times it’s flagged as “style” Vivienne Westwood and it has a very low price (for example 10-20€). so, be aware, what you pay for is what you’ll be receiving. then, what platforms can I trust? of course the original Vivienne Westwood’s website, but also here’s a list of the sites and apps I personally find trustworthy and from which I’ve bought VW’s jewelry:

- Farfetch (new)

- Zalando (new)

- Vestiaire Collective (new and vintage)

also, a lot of apps that sell second hand goods are developing a new service that offers an evaluation from experts before the item gets shipped to you. for example, Vinted has this service available for 10€ for articles worth 100€+ of certain brands (VW included), and they will refund you the whole price of the merch, shipping and evaluation if it turns out to be a fraud.
