ciara I trust your perspection so much so what are your thoughts on this eddie-less /less-eddie episode?I feel like they have ended the previous episode on such strong feelings that i think people are understandably upset about Eddie's absence in the dream. Thoughts?
ahhhh okay so. from a 'blorbos from my show' perspective, you better believe at least 25% of my brain capacity every time eddie wasn't on screen was thinking where is he asdkjfh like, i definitely checked how much time was left in the ep More Than Once because he hadn't been in it much lmao
but, if i take off my blorbo hat and put on my 'person with an english degree who knows how to engage in critical thinking' hat, i can try and offer you a logical explanation asjdh
so when i was first watching the ep i thought the dream world was sort of paralleling the real world?? as in the person buck interacted with in his dream was whoever was in the room with him irl at the time (like the way it cuts between chimney in his dream vs chimney sitting with him at the hospital)
that idea was sort of proven false bc chris didn't show up when he was talking to him however i do think there's still some merit in it. just because, it seems very clear from that chris/eddie scene that eddie hasn't been in the room much???? and so then that's maybe why buck doesn't really see him in his dream???? bc when eddie brings chris into the room he's Visibly upset. like, he walks chris over to the bed and then walks away as if he can't even watch. hen is mainly the one answering chris' question and eddie is standing at a distance, crying, as chris talks to buck.
so i think that's enough to sort of suggest eddie's maybe not ready to confront the reality of buck potentially dying and therefore didn't feel emotionally strong enough to be there like the others were????
now, i understand it was a very full episode. there's a lot to fit in, all of the characters have a strong connection to buck in one way or the other and they obviously spent a lot of time on the buckley parents that, under other circumstances, would've gone to members of the 118. so i'm not criticizing because i genuinely loved the episode.
however, i think it wouldn't have gone amiss for them to have given us one scene maybe between eddie and hen or something where we were explicitly told or shown in some way that eddie wasn't coping well with it. even just a shot of him sitting in the waiting room looking worn down would've done it, i feel.
i think him not being in the dream - as much as i would've loved an alternate meeting - makes sense in context and helps to emphasise that this world buck's found himself in is wrong. maddie's with doug, bobby's dead and his ghost is taunting buck, and eddie's gone. and idk i think there's something meaningful in the idea that coma!buck lost eddie before he could ever even have him because his impact on eddie right from the very beginning was so significant
also chris saying "can you help me find my dad" is making my brain whir in ways that i can't fully articulate yet askjdfhs
so TL;DR: it would've been nice to have at least one other scene to linger on eddie a bit more the way we got to see them do with bobby and maddie (and even chimney) but also i loved the scene we did get and i need to believe we'll get something more next week for the sake of my sanity lol ❤️

I want to talk about the parallels between bathena and buddie (as individuals and as ships) because 4x14 directly paralleled them, down the words Buck and Athena said to Eddie and Bobby (“I’ve got you”), and I want to explore that more. Under a cut bc this is on the long side.
I’m going to talk about the characters first, and then the dynamics.
So, Bobby and Eddie first. Bobby and Eddie are both widowers who carry massive amounts of guilt over what they perceive as failures in their past marriages, though Bobby’s were more severe. They both packed up their lives and moved to Los Angeles to escape the weight of their traumas and those perceived failures and start fresh. They’re both family driven and motivated, whether that family is their actual kids or their team. They both have a natural paternal energy about them, as well, they’re devoted and loving fathers, and they both have an overwhelming desire to protect the people they love, a belief that it’s their responsibility to keep everyone safe.
Buck and Athena! Buck and Athena both have baggage from judgemental and harsh parents with impossible standards, and they’ve both channeled those insecurities into being the best damn first responders they can be. They’re headstrong and stubborn and will do whatever it takes to save or protect as many people as possible, even if it’s reckless or dangerous, the show even parallelled them this way in 3x18 (“I’m not Athena”). They’ve both felt abandoned and hurt by people they loved, and internalized those moments as failures on their part, even when it really didn’t have a lot to do with them (Maddie not being able to leave Doug and Abby’s mom dying vs Emmett getting shot and dying and Michael coming out as gay), which becomes an issue in their relationships later.
Alright, and now I want to get into the dynamics. (I say dynamics bc “couples” isn’t technically accurate just yet)
In both dynamics, one of them already has a kid(s), and their dynamic therefore is not just about the two of them, but about their kids as well. Both stories aren’t just about falling in love, they’re about building a family together. Both dynamics also deal with the possibility of losing someone you love, which granted is a factor of their jobs. But I would argue that it’s a much more prominent feature for bathena and buddie than it is for henren or madney. And because of that, both dynamics emphasize the ways they want to protect each other, to have each other’s backs. Whether it’s Bobby being the only one to know that Athena isn’t going to take the promotion offered to her, or Eddie knowing when Buck is doubting himself and reassuring him, there’s this through line of understanding and trust.
And that brings me to the bathena conflict in season 4. The trust between them was fractured on both sides, first when Athena starts making decisions without talking to Bobby, and then when he starts hiding things from her, and eventually it all comes to a head. But just because they fight, doesn’t mean they stop loving each other, doesn’t mean they don’t stop choosing each other. They work things out. Because you don’t find love like that, “you make it” and that means sometimes it’s hard, sometimes you have to work for it. It’s not easy.
And just because something is easy, doesn’t make it right.
I think it’s worth noting as well, that they used the word “partner” throughout the bathena arc this season. First “there’s a reason she doesn’t have a partner” and then again with the family game night scene and finally when Athena says she needs her partner back, symbolically affirming their relationship. It’s about marriage as a partnership.
Interesting, because Eddie’s marriage failed because he wanted to be a provider, not a partner. And interesting because really, what better word is there for Buck and Eddie than “partner”?

9-1-1 Season 4 Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Episodes, and Story Details
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
It’s never a bad time to dramatize the very busy and dangerous world of 911 first responders. This year, however, Fox’s long-running drama 9-1-1 will prove particularly resonant. Fox announced that it had renewed 9-1-1 for season 4 back in April of 2020, which was right near the beginning of the United States’ struggle with COVID-19.
The show’s production experienced some delays before launching in October of 2020. Now, 9-1-1 season 4 is set to arrive soon, and will have plenty of dramatic ground to cover. This is all to say that yes: coronavirus will play a factor in season 4’s scripts, according to showrunner Tim Minear.
“The characters on the screen will have gone through what the audience has gone through,” Minear told TVLine. “There may be flashbacks that will show what our people went through at the height of the (pandemic), but by the time we resume physical production, that means the world will have figured out how to start opening for business again.”
Here is everything we know about 9-1-1 season 4, including a release date, cast, and details on the announced crossover with 9-1-1: Lone Star.
9-1-1 Season 4 Release Date
Despite some inevitable coronavirus delays, 9-1-1 season 4 was able to achieve a pretty ambitious release date. The first episode of this season, “The New Abnormal”, premieres on Monday, Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. The description for the first episode reads:
“When the Hollywood Reservoir dam breaks, Bobby and the 118 race into action to save passengers on a city bus that has crashed into a building several stories in the air. Maddie must first locate, and then rescue, a trapped cyclist, and Athena helps an agoraphobic woman evacuate her home.”
The show’s sister series, 9-1-1: Lone Star, will premiere its second season the same night at 9 p.m. ET.
9-1-1 Season 4 Cast
9-1-1 had one notable cast defection following its first season when Connie Britton left the show. For season 4, however, 9-1-1 brings back the entirety of its season 3 cast. This includes: Angela Bassett as Athena Grant, Peter Krause as Robert Nash, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley, Oliver Stark as Evan Buckley, Aisha Hinds as Henrietta Wilson, Kenneth Choi as Howard Han, Ryan Guzman as Edmundo Diaz, Rockmond Dunbar as Michael Grant, Corinne Massiah as May Grant, Marcanthonee Jon Reis as Harry Grant, and Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz. Additionally John Harlan Kim’s Albert has been promoted to a series regular.
9-1-1 has also been known for many notable guest stars with Ronda Roussey turning up last season. This year, the first confirmed guest star is Nikki DeLoach (Awkward). Per TVLine, DeLoach will be portraying a cyclist who gets caught in a dam break.
9-1-1 Season 4 Trailer
The latest trailer for 9-1-1 season 4 offers up some more action from episode 1’s dam break.
The first trailer for 9-1-1 season 4 features a dam breaking and taking out the Hollywood sign…because that’s just how this show rolls.
9-1-1 Season 4 Story Details
In the same interview with TVLine in which he revealed that 9-1-1 season 4 would address the coronavirus, showrunner Tim Minear mentioned that it wouldn’t be a main feature of the show this year, “Maybe our role is to demonstrate through our little fantasy show that life will go on. So, yes, it will exist in our universe — and life will continue.”
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
In an interview with The Wrap, Minear said that season 4 would focus more on the inner lives of its characters. This includes the reveal of a secret that Maddie has been keeping about her and Buck’s childhood to be revealed in the episode titled “Buck Begins.”
Of course, the big event this time around will be the crossover between the main flagship series and its spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star. According to The Wrap, episode 3 of each show will feature the crossover and it will involve 9-1-1’s characters traveling to Austin, Texas to assist in stopping a massive wildfire. The crossover will air on Feb. 1.
