Weighing in with my thoughts on this guy's video about the Tamagotchi Smart Special Book as an avid Tama book collector and having translated every last word of the Smart manual into English for funsies:
Most of the info on the operation of the Smart is also on the official web site or in the instruction manual. Based on this reviewer's comments on which sections he found informative, he probably didn't read the manual cover to cover.
Character illustrations and profiles of the new Smart adult/Friend characters are taken from the official website. There is no information on how to raise each character, nor does it list their favorite items. So, not a strategy guide.
The Character Encyclopedia is more or less recycled from previous publications, though these are some of the nicest, largest photos of the characters available in print. Appearance variations from P's, 4U, and Meets are also included, which is really fun! (No Disney or Sanrio collabs though.)
The Tamagotchi History uses photos we've all seen before, but the added commentary on what each new version brought to the table is helpful if you haven't mastered your Tama history yet. Please note that licensed collabs (Mothra, Genjintchi, TamaOtchi, Doraemon, Hanerutchi, Exile, Hexagontchi, Sanrio Mix/Meets, Nanos, etc.) are not included.
The 4 pages of stickers at the very end are GREAT! Vivid color, large size, thick material. The last page has classic characters in the modern illustration style, some classic pixel art, and what I wanted most: the 25th Anniversary logo and the old-school UFO logo!
I would have liked more info on the different TamaSma Cards as they introduce many more new characters, but based on the timing of publication I think it can't be helped. (They're not all out yet!)
The section he mentions as the most informative (Teach Me SmaSpitchi!) has the one piece of information I'd not encountered previously, specifically that Link Play can actually net you rare items like food or toys. The instruction manual made it look like all they did was gossip about their owners.
Overall: Really clean and modern visual layout that compiles previously available information in an easily accessible format. If you missed the 4U era fanbook, this is a good opportunity to pick up the character encyclopedia and 25-year product timeline. Bonus stickers are 100% worth the price of admission.
