should i probably have set a hard scope on the finduilas fic? yes. did i? absolutely not.
#'i'll do a fic with my own thoughts on finduilas-as-gil-galad' i said#'surely i can cover everything up through the whole turin incident fairly quickly'#reader if we really wanted to get into it there'd be potential material for multiple non-gil-galad fic premises#she's in nargothrond for *all* of the beren and luthien drama#including her father getting left in charge#and basically everything celegorm and curufin are doing whilst they're in nargothrond#as everyone shows up there post-dagor bragollach#but yes no this has very quickly gone from a bit where i work through the canon material to get an idea for how i'd write her#and like. how that *functions* with finduilas-as-gil-galad. what that does. how it feels.#and now we're just hanging out i think. i keep finding canon events that happen and going 'ooh what does finduilas think about this?'#'how might this become something that influences her actions as gil-galad?'#but we haven't actually. you know. gotten to the gil-galad bits yet#hell we haven't even really gotten to turin#to be clear (1) this isn't actually as long as it sounds; i'm just picking away a couple hundred words at a time#and (2) i don't regret this at all. i'm having fun.#being between projects means that fanfic is really good for scratching the itch to write for something with a developed framework#without having to build the framework myself i.e. working on something new and having to figure out the world and prior events
