Bestie please say you have a positive take on the Vincenzo ending for Chayenzo, I'm so sad.
under the cut because ~spoilers~
Please bear with me, I don’t even know if any of this is going to make sense because my thoughts are all over the place right now from that mind-blowing finale.
I’ve perused through the tag a little bit and can see why people were generally unhappy with how their relationship was handled in the end (because we were all desperately hoping for the fluff and soft moments that we were waiting on for so long) but believe me when I say that I actually find the ending for these two hopeful and still, very romantic in the dark world that the two are living in:
Now, through the time-jump we know that Vincenzo hasn’t been back in Korea for a year, and because of the art gallery scene, we know that he’s still not cleared to come back yet because of the accusations against him. Naturally one would wonder why that’s the case when he literally has 3 intelligence agents, an expert hacker, and numerous helpers to wipe out his criminal record, but given the delicacy of the situation in his Family before he left, I honestly believe that the reason Vincenzo hasn’t come back yet is simply because it’s taken a year for him to clean up the messes Paulo left behind and shift the Family over to Malta and away from the Interpol’s investigation into Paulo/The Family. As the new Boss of the Cassano Family, Vincenzo would have to work tirelessly in order to bring stability to his organization after the former boss fled and caused two Family members to be murdered by their rival family.
We also know from the time-jump that Mr. Ahn has been looking for Vincenzo for a year but hasn’t had any luck yet. His boss then says, “I’m sure he’ll come back when the time is right”. To me, that screams foreshadowing because it simply isn’t like Vincenzo to stay away forever- especially not when he’s promised Cha Young several times now that he’ll come back to her (r.e. Cha Young’s flashback and how insistent Vincenzo was about keeping his promise despite the joke about the pigeon bridge). When the time is right, Vincenzo will reach out to Mr. Ahn and Co. and his path to return will finally be cleared. I also think it would have been suspicious had he taken the steps to clear his record so soon after leaving, so some time away would probably make the process that much easier to sneak under the radar. (Mr. Ahn and Mr. Cho were only able to clear his passport for 30 mins. when Vincenzo was leaving because of the short notice. Imagine what they could do given the proper time!)
We also see that back at Jipuragi, Vincenzo has sent Cha Young 12 post cards, one for every month that he’s been gone. Though the thought of the two being apart for now really is heartbreaking, it just goes to show just how much they love and respect one another. Per his own words, she is always on his mind and I have no doubt that he is constantly planning on ways to come back to her. Cha Young knew that she’d need to give him time and selflessly gave it to him because to her he’s worth it. Vincenzo in the meantime bought an island and named it ‘Jipuragi’ in Italian not only to honor the woman who possesses his heart and the other half as his soul, but as a symbol of home. Vincenzo is an expert planner, and with his duties as the Cassano Family Boss he knows that his life will forever be tied to that responsibility. That however does not mean that he can’t be with the woman that he loves in a permanent fashion, and he knows that. The fact that there are now two Jipuragi’s (one in Malta and one in Korea) just foreshadows that their lives will eventually belong to both together. Vincenzo even says that he built the Family house on the island for it to be a place of refuge, a hideout, and a place of healing. Cha Young has been integral to Vincenzo’s healing since the moment they first met, and because of that, he wants to be able to provide her with everything she could ever hope for. He was already worried about the mess she would have to deal with when he left, so there is no doubt that he wants to take care of everything going forward to ensure that they can spend the rest of their lives together in peace.
Also, those kisses? Those helplessly-in-love gazes? Yeah. He may be leaving the next day but there’s no way Vincenzo’s not already planning how quickly he can see her again. They’re in a long distance relationship for now, but I truly don’t see that lasting for long. He has waited to feel whole long enough.
