i haven’t thought about xenogenders and whatnot for so long but reading performative acts and gender constitution gave me like. an entirely new angle to think about them
#obviously xenogenders and nonbinary genders break the rules of cishet society by refusing to perform either man or woman#but they also break cishet society because we just. don’t have a script set for them yet#so we really have no frame of reference that we can use to neatly slot them into particular roles or functions#so we really do live in interesting times right now because we get to see how society reacts to nonbinary identities on a massive scale#like. do we default to sex-based assumptions of gender and sort nonbinary people in accordance with that?#do we create friction by attempting to create new categories within the cishet franework?#or do we have to do something else entirely?#it’s so cool!#also with regards to xenogenders we can question what can even constitutes a gender#can we create new genders by simply performing new acts or giving old acts new meaning?#will that even work if the wider world doesn’t give those acts the same meaning as the person performing them?#good stuff
