It's not even that I think kids & early-teens shouldn't read pjsk because it handles heavy stuff I just think pjsk often handles the heavy stuff in frankly Not Good ways. And sometimes it handles it weirdly. And sometimes they just drop the ball completely. And I trust you guys know exactly what I'm referring to with vague terms here.
You should not discourage young people from reading media that deals with heavy stuff it's just that pjsk requires a stupid level of being able to doylist explain its story and topics because it constantly self-censors and undermines it's own message. Nothing is so explicit in a way that is absolutely earnest and raw and for the rare instance it is, they back-pedal almost immediately. It's subtlety is as much a blessing as it's a curse, because if you go into it without media literacy you'll just end up with completely wrong interpretation and outtakes which we see happen all the time.
Now I like pjsk's story (obviously) enough to stay & my bullshit tolerance is pretty low and pjsk still haven't ticked it off enough for me to leave. But to say that pjsk is a good introduction to topics of mental health & abuse & etc for young readers is laughable.
So it's not an argument of "so you think 8 years old don't deserve stories about [x topics]", that is not something I'm saying. I'm saying that pjsk tends to write their stories in Such A Way that reading them at that age is going to be harmful at worst and confusing and misleading at best. So even with the most generous of interpretations, 8+ rating is... Not right.
And also it's a gacha game, so.
