pairing; jungkook x reader
genre; best friend!au
word count; 6.1k
a/n; a huge thank you to @taesthetes for helping me with this story and being a great friend overall. cat, this one is 4 u and your love for the hemsworth bros ;)
summary; in this story, you have known your best friend for so long and undeniably, you were utterly and wholly in love with him
The day you finally came back, your heart was thumping out of your chest and your stomach had felt queasy. It felt like you swallowed frogs and they were hopping inside of you. Maybe it’s because you were scared to see the person you didn’t want to see just yet or it was just nostalgic, since after all, this place felt more like home.
Your eyes searched amongst the sea of people eagerly trying to get out of the airport as soon as possible or rushing to find their partner or family with relief that they arrived safely, whereas, your eyes easily laid upon the boy who looked different but familiar enough for you to recognize him in the big shades and newly colored hair. He seems to have spotted you first as he was facing your direction with arms crossed and a small welcoming smile growing on his face while you walk towards him with the grandest grin on yours.
“Hey, you,” Jimin greets as you finally stand before him. “Miss me?”
Rolling your eyes at his greeting, you pull him into a hug and he’s chuckling ebulliently as he had hugged you to the point where you couldn’t breathe and you both had just swung side to side a little.
“So?” He immediately asks, eyebrows wiggling. “How was it? Was it a great experience? I see you’ve cut your hair—”
“First of all,” you began, giggling at Jimin’s persistent excitement as he took your luggage and you both began your journey towards his car. “I am doing swell, thanks for asking,” Jimin laughs at your sarcasm. “And I’ll tell you all about it later, but for now; pink hair? Really?”
“You like it? I was going for—”
“Strawberry Shortcake?” You tease, poking at his sides and he tilts his head downwards, sending you a scowl .
“Jeez, five minutes back and you’re already bullying me?”
Cheekily smiling at your pink-haired friend, you both take the escalator down to the parking garage. “Oh, don’t pretend you don’t miss it.”

When you arrived to Australia, you had to admit, wanting to run around the streets and letting yourself loose was the only thing floating within your mind, but you had to tell yourself there was going to be enough time for that. But, as your eyes scanned the airport and the scenery that awaited you outside those airport windows, your heart did a little leap of excitement when you were finally understanding that you were finally there and you could only remember the vague memories that was spent there with your mother.
You looked for your chauffeur in which your itinerary stated that he’ll be holding your name and your roommate’s name once you step out of your plane through the midst of the many people who were also waiting for someone to pick their company up. That was until you spotted a man in a dapper suit and hat, holding two signs together of what seems to be your name and your roommate’s.
Walking over to him, you tell him that you’re Y/N and the chauffeur introduces himself as Mr. Mitchell and says that it’s a pleasure to meet you while you both wait for the name that he was holding up.
And a few minutes later, a girl came up to you both, greeting you both with a grin that oddly sent good vibes.
Her name was Aera and she had blue hair.

“So how’re you and Minji?”
Jimin peers over at you at the corner of his eye as he makes the exit into the freeway only to arrive in traffic. “Doing just fine. We’re actually thinking about moving in together soon,” he says, and you raise your eyebrows in excitement, smiling widely at your friend and his relationship with the one girl that may or may not stand beside him at his wedding. “But the real question is, how’re you and Jungkook?”
You open your mouth to say something, but you shut it closed soon after, shrugging.
“Figured as much,” Jimin chuckles as you purse your lips. “Hasn’t he called you at least once while you were gone?”
“Not a single word,” you tell him as your eyes graze upon the view outside your window that made you finally realize why you missed home so much. “But that’s okay. If he doesn’t want to talk, then we don’t have to talk.”
“Don’t do that.”
You snap your head towards him, knitting your eyebrows together. “Do what?”
“Being stubborn and defensive,” he retorts as if you own the trait and you scoff in disbelief.
“I am not—!”
Jimin rolls his eyes and gives a small encouraging smile. “Are too. And you’re going to talk to him.”
“Says who?”
“Says your conscience. Says the middle man in this ‘relationship’. Says the person who knows you and Jungkook. ”
Groaning loudly, you crossed your arms across your chest, eyes staring at the greenery that laid on the outskirts of the city. “I’m not talking to him. He didn’t try to talk to me— hell, he probably didn’t want to talk to me. But, it’s fine because I don’t care anymore.”
Jimin abruptly burst into loud laughter at your stubborn and adamant tone, as if you had humored him in some type of way, and you’re eyeing him with a single eyebrow up. “What? What’s so funny?”
“Nothing it’s just… of course you care, Y/N,” he says in between his laughs as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “We all know you care. You can’t just instantly stop caring for someone you love—”
“Who said I love him?”
“Who said you didn’t?”
“I did! I moved on!” You exclaim and Jimin looks at you for a second with a look of doubt and it makes you groan in frustration that he didn’t believe you— even if it were somewhat a lie. “I met someone, okay? I met a guy and he’s sweet, caring…”
“Y/N,” he starts but you ignore him and continue.
“We worked as colleagues together when we were in Melbourne and—”
“Y/N,” he says your name louder and you stop talking to listen to him. “I never said you love him romantically.” As he said that with a look, you pursed your lips together in realization. “You may say you don’t love Jungkook as something more, but anyone and everyone who has seen you two together know that you both love and care about each other more than anyone you’ve loved or cared about in your lives.”
Opening your mouth, you were about to interject, but you knew he was right, as always. Jimin, your friend who you have met through Jungkook and calls himself your conscience, was always right.
“Don’t be so stubborn and talk to him. You’ve talked to him before in these type of situations and you two always end up making up anyways. Not everyone in a relationship can do that, ya know,” he says with a winning smile knowing that you know he has a point. “Sure he hasn’t talked to you in a long time, but that’s because he’s scared.”
“That’s what you said last time,” you utter under your breath.

It’s only been a few weeks, and you and Jimin have barely talked on the phone—usually right before you’re going to bed. But, the most you have talked was three times and two thirds of them were cut short since Aera was the type to get her usual eight hours of sleep— which you never understood how she could sleep for eight hours. But, you respected that and did not disrupt her sleep at all.
However, that night, Aera allowed you to call Jimin on Skype for an hour or two even if she was in bed about to go to sleep, but knowing her, you took that offer swiftly before it was gone and called Jimin who was coincidentally online as you opened your laptop right after you took your shower.
A few rings later, Jimin appeared onto your screen, laughing at the fact that a towel was messily wrapped around your head and you were wearing kitten pajamas. After a couple jokes about your appearance and I miss you’s, you two had inevitably caught up. Jimin sat in the comfort of his own living room, freshly changed into his outfit of a turtleneck and jeans as his roommate, Namjoon, was in the background making a mess of what was supposed to be a sandwich.
He told you about his stupid professor and how harsh he grades tests and how the coffee doesn’t taste the same without you there with him, which made you burst out laughing. Then he asked you about the internship and how Australia was going and all you could say was, “I’m having the time of my life here” as you realize you had to wake up at five AM the next morning.
Then after some laughs, you heard a loud noise of what could have been Namjoon dropping multiple pans, which made Jimin groan in frustration as he stood up from his laptop and check out what on earth Namjoon was doing in the kitchen.
When he came back, you were laughing at him as you unraveled your towel head, letting your freshly washed hair fall down.
“So, why haven’t you called him?” Jimin abruptly asks as you shook your hair with a towel.
Realizing that him referred to the one person you’ve known for all your life, you hesitated to answer, until you let out a sigh and answer his question with another question. “More like, why hasn’t he called me?”
“He’s Jungkook. He’s afraid it’s going to be a bad time,” he explains which makes you scoff, while you shake your hair once more and flip it, grabbing a comb from your desk to comb it back.
“Bad time for what?” Jimin can hear you saying those words as your grit your teeth and you notice that he flinches at your somewhat harsh tone. “I’m not angry at him or anything.”
“You didn’t exactly forgive him the day at the airport.”
You don’t say anything. But, instead, your ears are open to his next words that you expect to give you some sort of revelation.
“Look, you know Jungkook. He doesn’t want to say anything that would make you hate him anymore than you already do.”
“I don’t hate him! I just….”
“Why don’t you call him?”
“What do I have to say to him? 'Hi, it’s me, I completely forgive you for almost choosing Seoyeon over me!’?”
“Just call him!” You jump a little in your seat as you were startled by the loud voice coming from Aera in her bed, making Jimin stifle a laugh. “You’re always checking your phone if he called or not—”
“Aera!” You gasp and you could Jimin laughing hysterically from your laptop.
“See,” he chimes in between his laughter and you’re rolling your eyes at both of them. You continue to comb your hair as you wait for Jimin to catch his breath and continue what he has to say before you hang-up and don’t speak to him for another couple of days or weeks. “And you’re bound to talk about it sooner or later. Do yourself a favor and call him.”
In which you do the next day, but you were sent straight to voicemail. And that’s when you knew that it was time to stop trying.
present
Traffic had finally dispersed, and Jimin was gliding in the fast lane as he was humming to a tune with the radio. As he did so, you were on your phone scrolling through your many pictures you took on your trip to turn and look over at Jimin with lips pursing together.
“So, care to fill me in on what happened here during the eight months I was gone?” You peer over at Jimin who begins to smile deviously at your curious and innocent question.
“Well, we sort of made a celebration party after you left—”
He was cut off abruptly as you hit his arm which resulted into him dissipating into hysterical chuckles at your reaction to his response. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding,” he saves himself as you shoot him a scowl which eventually has him to stop laughing. “Uhm, nothing much. Seoyeon and Jungkook are no more—”
“Oh?”
“Jungkook would rather be with you than her.”
“What? No, no, no. He chose her first, he can’t just—”
“He didn’t choose her first, Y/N.”
You don’t say anything but Jimin continues.
“Jungkook can be stupid, but he would never choose someone over you. You’re the person he’s known for far too long. He debated whether he should call or not and he barely stepped foot out of his home after you left. He’s better now, except when you’re brought up, he doesn’t want to think about you, so he leaves the room or changes the topic–”
“Why?”
“That is for you to find out,” he says and you scoff. “I can’t always be the middle man here.”
5 months and 2 days ago
That night, you were working overtime with your boss and your colleague whom you two seemed to click platonically when you first greeted each other on the first day of work. His name was Adam and he was tall— a bit taller than Jungkook— and he was also interested in the same field as you are.
Your boss assigned Adam to print out papers and to organize them into files.
“I can’t believe we have to print over 300 pages of these paperworks and have to organize them into these files,” Adam whispers over to you as he gives you a stack of papers that looked about 20 pages of paper and you laugh at him.
“Well, he told you to print 50 pages a day last week, but guess who procrastinated,” you snark back and he laughs loudly at your shade towards him. “And if you stop talking and getting distracted, we could finish this before 1 and I can have have my daily dose of sleep.”
“Maybe, you should stop distracting me.”
You look up from the file cabinet with raised eyebrows. “How am I distracting you?”
Adam stares at you, a smirk growing on his lips before his smooth comment rolls off his tongue causing you to bite your tongue. “You’re too pretty to not distract me.”
Hearing that through your ears, you do admit you were caught surprised by his evident flirting that your cheeks turned a little shade of pink, but you tried to laugh it off, thinking it was just him being the flirtatious guy he was being.
“Flirty, aren’t we?”
“Plenty more of where that came from,” he winks and you shake your head, continuing to finish your filing as he places another stack in front of you. “Which reminds me.”
As you were taking the stack that was freshly printed, you began from the beginning again with focused eyes as you hummed to his statement.
“Do you want to go out for dinner tomorrow night? Dr. Scott isn’t giving us work to do tomorrow so we’re free to leave early,” he suggests and you look up at him once more, eyes unsure.
It was obvious in your eyes that you were having an internal conflict since Adam’s hopeful expression slowly deteriorated as each second passed while you were thinking about the pros and cons in your head. The first con was due to the fact that you saw this trip as something to focus on yourself and only yourself. The second con was because you didn’t know if going out with a guy was okay while you and the person whom you still achingly love both stand in an awkward and confused state as of right now. The third con was because you didn’t know if you could trust the guy asking you.
Adam knew how to read the signs and your expression as you didn’t respond and hesitated which only made you feel bad at how he lowered his head and continued stacking piles of paper together. “You know what, forget what I said. It’s okay—”
“Wait,” you interject which results into him raising his head with a spark of hope in his eyes as you were going to tell him your answer. Even though you knew that there were more cons than pros of going out with him, what’s odd was that there was only one pro that had outweighed all those cons. “I’d love to go out tomorrow. I’ve actually been craving Italian lately.”
And that pro was; live a little.

The comfort of the coffee shop with the ease of company was fairly nostalgic as you missed the aroma of coffee beans and the subtle chats that filled the small atmosphere in its outmost way that could make anyone feel warm.
“So tell me more about this Adam guy,” Jimin insists with eyebrows raised in interest as you both drank your coffee sat in the same usual spot where you two would sit. “Are you guys still together?”
“No,” you admit, laughing at him. “We weren’t together in the first place.”
“What?” Jimin’s facial expression switches from teasing interest to surprised confusion which results to you nodding slowly at him. “I thought you—”
“Yes, we did go on a few dates,” you finish for him and his never ending questions that circulated his mind. In his defense, you did freak out about the topic about Adam; stating “But that’s about it. I can’t bring myself to be in a serious relationship with other guys.”
Jimin gives a sudden smirk. “Oh? And why is that?”
Shrugging, you take another sip of your coffee. “What do you think?”
Jimin’s eyes faltered from his hands that clenched onto the mug of his coffee to your eyes with a strange certainty mixed with felicity glimmering in his eyes “You’re still in love with Jungkook, huh?”
“I never stopped.”

That day felt somewhat equivalent to drowning. Obstacles left and right were aimed right at you and in an instant, it felt like the universe had just immediately found a way to plot against you— at least that’s what it felt like anyways. You don’t know why and you don’t how, but immediately, everything felt like it was too much even when the voice in your head was encouraging yourself.
The first thing you encountered that stressful day was that your entire research that your boss assigned you to a couple weeks ago had been totally erased because having to accidentally fall asleep while writing it and not remembering to save it, your laptop had died and you woke up to a blank untitled paper.
Luckily, Aera had given you tips on what to say to your boss in order to charm your way out of losing the internship that you were utterly grateful for and the tips had ultimately worked when your boss decided to punish you to working overtime instead and extending the due date the next day.
The next thing was that you barely slept the night before, and obviously, that had its consequences. Three cans of iced coffee certainly had its perk for a few hours before you were found trying to keep yourself awake once the caffeine disappeared from your body.
And soon after, you were given news out of the blue that was more like a bomb exploding in your face and through your exhaustion and stress, you didn’t know how to really react to the piece of information that added to your plate.
The 'bomb’ dealt with your mother. In fact, you had found out something about your mother, and it is more information than anything your father and your vague childhood memories could ever provide you.
Admittedly, reacting to that piece of fretting info was not a given, and you were only left to think of the one person that had ultimately appeared in your mind; and absently, you find that calling that person who knew you and knew your position would help the numbness wither away.
Even though you knew that even after a few calls and texts he would not answer, some part of you hoped that maybe he would answer back and realize that you needed him the most at that moment. But to your misfortune, you were left to swallowing your feelings in solitude once again when your calls were ignored and missed.
present
The first thing that Jungkook notices is not the slightly shocked expression painted on your face when you look at him, but rather, he notices your hair. You cut it.
As you stand before him with eyes that stared back at him in confusion, it was inevitable for Jungkook to admire you. You had darker eye bags, but that could have easily been due to the jet lag and he really wanted to say that your haircut suited you.
But, you didn’t exactly grasp the realization that you were letting the one guy who you haven’t spoken to for so long, stand in the middle of your household with no words flowing out of his mouth besides, “I want to talk.”
As if that statement was water being thrown at you, you were now highly aware of your previous subconscious actions and all you did was raise your eyebrows and repeat him, not bothering to look at him and not wanting to bring your shield down even if he was right in front of you. “You want to talk?”
In the corner of your eye, you see him nod without hesitation, only for you to scoff. Eyes that rose to look at him, you cross your arms across your chest. “You want to talk? Even after the fact that you haven’t bothered to talk— not even try to talk— to me the eight months I was gone?”
You let out a sigh of disbelief seeing the look on his face— as if he hadn’t thought about this 'plan’ through. “Fine, let’s talk. You didn’t call. Not even a single text, or an e-mail. You ignored all my calls and you never even read my messages, and suddenly, you want to talk?
"Jungkook, I was gone for eight months and all I wanted was at least a call from you. What happened to 'not letting you go without knowing you were able to call or talk to me’ or 'I will wait for you, I will always wait for you’?”
“I know—”
“No, you don’t know,” you cut him off with blood boiling in your veins as you clenched your fists. “I needed you, Jungkook. I needed my best friend because when I was gone, I needed someone to be my anchor. Did you know that I learned something about my mother? And you—of all people who knows my mom and knows that I miss her— weren’t there when I needed you.”
And as you take that weight off your chest, you notice that Jungkook’s face has immediately softened with eyes that transitioned to sympathy and regret and you had to look down towards the floor, no longer caring to look at him in the eyes.
“A half assed apology isn’t going to work anymore,” you mutter a bit harshly and Jungkook is slightly taken aback, but he understands what you’re trying to tell him as you had your arms crossed and head down.
You take it that he understands what you are indirectly telling him to do as you hear the footsteps against your wooden floors begin to fade towards the front door, followed by the sound of the door opening, but the sound of the door closing was not accompanied afterwards.
“I did call,” he says loudly enough for you to hear as his hand was on the door knob. “I called, Y/N. And, I’m sorry that I wasn’t there for you when you needed me.”
And before you could close your eyes and let out a deep breath, you finally heard the steady shuffling of his feet exiting your home along with the door shutting behind him.
3 months and 4 days ago
“Hey, Y/N,” Adam greets you as he plops a paper bag in front of you.
“What is this?” You inquire out of curiosity before looking inside the bag to see that it was a bagel from the nearby coffee shop from where you both worked at.
“You always come to work on an empty stomach. Call it a treat, or a favor— but, it’s on me.”
Smiling up at him, you thank him as you get up from your chair, stretching your arms as you push your chair in with your hip. “Thank you, I needed this. I’ll get us both drinks from the vending machine— on me. Mind watching my stuff?”
You grin as Adam nods, you disappearing into the back to find the two vending machine that served cans of iced coffee and regular snacks that you could find anywhere. Choosing to get both of you the can of mocha, you put it in your money as you watch the machine eat it and in return, give you the two cans you asked for.
As you stroll through back to where you were before, you hear Adam’s voice a few feet away— as if he was angry.
“Don’t ever call again,” he spat and you were baffled at his demand that when you walk into the room with the two cans in hand, you’re confused when you see him holding your phone.
“What are you doing with my phone?” You ask and Adam looks up at you, jumping slightly at the fact that you scared him for a second. Innocently, he flashes a cheeky smile at you and lays your phone right back where it was while you raise an eyebrow suspiciously.
“Hey, someone called and I answered for you.”
“Oh,” you state a bit confused as why he would even think to answer your phone, but you didn’t think much about it. “Who called?”
“A random number, I guess,” he answers you with an innocent smile and you nod, handing him his drink as you grab your phone and check your call log to see who was calling, but the last call was from Jimin from last night.
present
Jungkook and you had highs and lows and this low was particularly lower than most lows.
He remembers that asphyxiating moment when he realized that he first kissed you or 'stole your first kiss’ so indescribably vivid during your sophomore year due to the fact that in a blink of an eye, the feeling of satisfaction of kissing the one person he’s ever wanted to kiss before had emerged into fits of regret and fear.
That’s because Jungkook thought that he was going to lose you and your friendship at that moment. And that was the lowest he would ever want to encounter with you.
But when you announced that it was okay, that you two were okay, he began to believe that that was the universe giving him a second chance to keep you in his life. And believing that and only that, he refused and dismissed any romantic feelings for you even when there were times when even a little bit of a 'what if’ feeling kindles through his body, those times including; that day when barbecue sauce was on your lips, and that day at the lake when he saw you as if you were a painted reverie in his own mind.
And seeing that you both had reached the point of an epoch that was lower than Jungkook had hoped for, Jungkook realized that maybe he blew his second chance that the universe had given him. That you two were nothing more than just two people with highs and lows. That he was the moon that lived in the night and you were the sun living in the day.

It was early morning, and it was time for you and your roommate to go your separate ways. Aera was going to be sent to Chad, while you were going to be sent to Madagascar, and her flight was just later than yours, so she had the benefit of sleeping in a little bit while you woke up early just before the break of dawn.
But before your bus to the airport came to pick you up, you sat outside your balcony, watching the skies turn colors when the sun began to rise. It was serene and you knew that you were going to miss the view so very much.
Just then, the sound of the balcony door opening had you jumping and turning around to see Aera smiling at you with her blue hair pulled back, hugging her baby pink blanket around her body as she took the seat right next to yours, enjoying the same scenery you both attentively watched. It was bittersweet, to say the least.
“Hey,” Aera greets you as you smile at her. “So, this Jungkook guy.”
You stifle a laugh, looking up at her as she curls her lips. “What about him?”
“You never really gave him a chance, you know?” She states and you raise your eyebrows in confusion. “Sure, from what you told me, he seems like this asshole, but what I think is… you’re afraid of facing the reality of it all.
"I mean, you’ve been in love with the guy for a long while and when he actually tells you he loves you, you go back and hide in your own little shell because all this time you’ve prepared yourself for a flat out rejection that you didn’t prepare yourself of when he tells you that he loves you.”
Staring at Aera baffled, she snickered at the expression that she saw; the wide eyes that were struck with an epiphany and the small 'o’ shape your lips formed.
“When you get back home, talk to him. I know that’s something everyone would say, but you two really need to talk to each other,” she smiles and you nod slightly.
“And come on, the guy snuck through security so that he could tell you he loves you. That takes some balls,” Aera laughs and you both fall into fits of chuckles and it was enough to take your mind away of the realization that soon enough, you’re both going to split ways and you won’t be able to admire her wisdom and her blue hair anymore.
present
Every time you’re with Adam, all you endeavored to ever do was forget Jungkook and the moment that it all started during that day in sophomore year. You tried to forget about how you harbored every single romantic feeling and emotion towards him for not only your sake, but also for his. And how you would try and force a smile when he tells you about the next girl in his life because truthfully, it hurt realizing that you weren’t the girl he would rhapsodize about— unlike the others.
And it was simple as that.
Adam may be the guy that seemed to genuinely like you and may be the person for getting you out of your ‘shell’, but Jungkook was the one that has been there for you for all this time. And even if you can’t blame him for being oblivious for the past years about your feelings for him, he was still a part of you.
So, maybe that’s why you were standing in front of his door— that and you referred back to Aera’s advice—, everything ranging from worry to anxiousness to sick sunk into your bubble as you try to figure out what to say with your brain overworking in your head.
One side of you was telling you to say it all and let it out. That you should tell him you love him and that you always have and always will. But the other side, however, was telling you to harbor yourself. That it was best to not say anything remotely near your infatuation for him and remain as friends. Because that was the only thing you could do; be a good friend— just like those drunken nights when you were there to take him home and just like those times when you were there to keep him sane.
As your mind and heart have been debating, all your worries and all the voices taunting you in your head was shut away when the door swung open and you were face to face with a surprised Jungkook, staring at you.
“Hi,” you breathe out and he responds with a lifted eyebrow.
Jungkook’s hand is still attached to the door knob and you feel your lips tremble when he asks you, “What are you doing here?”
Opening your mouth to say something, you close it when you realized no words came out. Jungkook notices this and he loosens his grip on the knob as you were trying to calm your nerves and try again. “I’ve done some thinking,” you stated with voice quaking. “And- uh, after all the years I’ve been in love with you, uhm—”
He doesn’t say anything— in fact, Jungkook was just grateful he got to see you again from the unpleasant last encounter— and he watches with hidden admiration at your struggle to let out what you desperately needed to say. He was almost amused and entirely hopeful that this wouldn’t be the last and final time you both see each other.
Then, you swallowed the lump in your throat and did your best to ignore the knot in your stomach beginning to tighten as each second passed by.
“At the day at the airport, you told me you love me,” you point out the moment that happened a long time ago as you had to fight the urge to bring your arms around his torso and never let go when you both locked gazes.
“I meant it,” he says quietly, but it was loud enough for you to hear and you felt your heart leap.
Nodding, you continued. “And I realized that…”
The anticipation was killing him as your voice trailed off slowly, but he tried to fight the urge to react so quickly and mindlessly. But then again, he was never in the right mind around you— not when all he wanted to do was pull you in and never let go of you again.
“I guess I never said it back.”
As you finally let those words sit in the open air, it was your turn to sit in the anticipation as you try to read his expression, always trying to find a bit of something in his eyes. But, a few seconds pass and nothing happens, but all you guys are doing is staring at each other with tension so thick in the air.
And finally, he breaks the tension as he straightens up and you could see the ghost of a smirk appear on his lips.
“Yeah,” he finally says and your heart is pounding out of your chest as you wait for his next statement. “I guess you never did.”
Then, you don’t fully register what happens after until you realize your arms were wrapping around his neck, pulling him closer that you understand he’s kissing you— and it felt so much more distinct from when he stole your first kiss in sophomore year. His lips were softer and the kiss felt more relieved and urgent than small and chaste like the previous one and in that instant, you swallow every single second and moment as you delve into the physical contact.
Understanding that your feelings for him was beyond genuine and even if that one piece of you was scared to be in love with the one person who has fallen in love so many times before, you absolutely did not worry about that when his lips were on yours.
Soon enough, all good things must come to an end as he’s pulling apart and you both stand there, foreheads nervously touching as you both hold each other close as if your life depended on it. Your eyes peer over at his and you almost pout as the scene that you originally had in your mind did not go out as it should have been.
“You didn’t let me say it.”
“It’s okay. I already know,” he states, and ridiculously, you found it hard to believe that over the course of days that seemed endless when you two were apart, you both had somehow found each other in the midst of the denial and the pandemonium that almost burned down your bridge to him. And it only took some thinking and understanding to realize that you can’t be with anyone else but him because in your perspective, you need him in your life just as much as he needs you in his.
But, to Jungkook, he needs you more.
a/n; phew omg
