Ough... ok ok ok. I think I will talk about my fav quint ghoul headcanon, Dewdrop, Delta, Phil, aaaaaaand one bonus surprise headcanon. Under the cut. Bc it'll be long.

So I know I talk about this so so so much but idk how many people actually *see* me talking about it. Anyways:

Quintessence ghouls: they're fallen angels!! Quintessence is often considered the heavenly element, so I would think there's not an abundance of it in the pit. Not enough to make a whole ghoul. So, fallen angels turn into quint ghouls after being summoned.

How I reflected that in their design: their horns used to be halos, but were broken into two horns when they fell. Omega's still mostly wraps around his head, but Aether & Phantom have more broken horns. They're made of glass, so they can never really grow back. They also have two sets of eyes, but the second set is permanently shut. These eyes provided them divine sight: the ability to see in heaven, to guide them on their work, and see the future. These are almost always traded & away for a second chance of life in hell. (I'm toying with the idea that Phantom might be different... idk yet.)

Delta: he was always a weird water ghoul. His body is broad and angular, his horns tried to twist around his head. His fins were small, his hair pale, and he never liked the way long hair looked on him. This is all because he was one of the very rare pit ghouls that was born with a sort of... extra dose of quintessence. This is different than being a multi ghoul, though. Multi ghouls express all of their elemental traits. Ghouls like Delta (Dewdrop) have... a hidden, inactive element. Sometimes no one knows its their. Sometimes it's kinda obvious. Delta didn't know this until after he was summoned.

When the clergy offered to open up his quintessence element, he was more ecstatic. It kinda felt like he was finally going to be where he belonged, in a sense. Delta's quintessence started to express itself in a dew ways. His horns started growing again (water ghoul horns do not grown past a certain point in their life, so they stay short) and twist behind his head. His skin color desaturated, his hair went grey. And the markings under his face that he always fussed about turned into a small, barely open, set of eyes.

Unfortunately, this comes at a small price. His original eyes became completely white, like his new eyes. He suffers from some vision issues now, but occassionally he can see things beyond (like brief glances of the future). He also gets more migraines than he did before, among other things. But he never regrets his choice. He's happy.

Dewdrop: similar to Delta, Dewdrop had a hidden fire element. It was a bit obvious, given his nose. But the thing is, Dewdrop was ok with being a water ghoul. He fit in just fine, he had fun, he was happy! But when he was summoned topside, I think he saw ghouls like Alpha & Ifrit (Ifrit especially), be realized that maybe... he could *happier.*

So had his element open up. His hair bleached, his horns grew a bit (and he broke it, he wasn't used to the being so long!). Parts of his eye lightened while his skin darkened. He grew hair in new places, and he even started growing a little tail! (I headcanon that water ghouls don't have tails on land; they have a "water form" that is better for swimming, and those have tails).

Dewdrop still likes being a water ghoul. But being a fire ghoul too made him really feel like himself :)

Phil: he's not a ghoul. I don't want to say toooooo much because I'm writing about him now & hopefully posting more soon but... he's not a ghoul.

So water ghouls have fins and webbed fingers and earth ghould have hooves, what's fire ghouls physiqe? Or air ghouls? Do they have wings? Wouldn't that make them like angels, what they certainly don't want to be affiliated with?

Dear Stranger, I hope you're taking care too.

Not all earth ghouls have hooves. Mountain just happens to, because I like mountain goats, and it makes sense to me that someone who doesn't like wearing shoes would have hooves. My quintessence ghoul oc Bismuth also has hooves, actually. No reason other than I like the design, and variety.

Air ghouls do have feathers, or a lot of them do, not all of them. There's always exceptions. But I wouldn't equate feathers to angels. There are plenty of examples throughout history of monsters and demons being depicted with feathered bodies and wings.

Angels don't make sense to look at. They mess with the mind in ways that a demon could, but not with their mere presence. A ghoul would be terrified if an Angel came down to earth without a vessel to hide their true form. There's a reason angels always start a conversation with "be not afraid."

I don't have a set of traits that fire ghouls specifically share yet. Not even for Alpha or Ifrit (who doesn't have a design yet.) Perhaps their elements are just a little easier to hide. Or they have lighter color of horns, compared to other ghouls.
