me reading fics in the epistolary style: he would not fucking put that in writing
#this is a very specific gripe#i overall like epistolary format just fine!#but sometimes authors... either forget or just don't care about the framing device they picked#people do not stutter when writing letters okay? they don't say 'um' on paper#and that's not even getting into 'is the person writing this letter aware that people other than the intended recipient may read it?#do they not care? how much are they willing to commit to a format that may be compromised?'#a lot of the fun of epistolary style is the limitations imposed by the format!#if you aren't respecting those limitations why bother
