Quality of life changes P5R did right:
During my first run through vanilla P5, I remember out of all the bosses, it was one of the phases of Madarame’s fight that by far gave me the most trouble, and it still remains my most hated boss encounter in vanilla. P5R completely revamped the second phase of that fight and I am so grateful
IT’S SO MUCH EASIER TO RECHARGE SP BECAUSE OF HOW THEY CHANGED THE DROPS AND JOSE’S SHOP
Speaking my son Jose I was kind of skeptical of how useful he’d be when he was first revealed but GOD has he really made grinding through Mementos way more enjoyable (though this may entirely change given how big later Mementos sections get and how his stamp system sort of falls apart in the face of that). I have no idea if he’ll even be plot-relevant later but I don’t even care if he isn’t; the kid could be a completely mechanical addition and I would be totally fine with it
THEY SUCCESSFULLY MADE TECHNICAL DAMAGE RELEVANT - okay so tbh I still don’t really go out of my way to inflict status ailments because I’m way too used to how Atlus would absolutely stack the odds so against the player’s favor when it comes to the odds of those working but it’s made certain generic encounters so much more bearable (LOOKING AT YOU, ANUBIS)
Unpopular opinion time but I’m going to honest and admit I found Futaba’s palace god awful, since they designed the dungeon with that cheap horror game gimmick of spawning enemies right after you pick up something important or if you just walked into one of those smaller side rooms and if you saw sarcophogi in there you knew you were in for some bullshit. Really awful level design since it takes so much control out of the player’s hands and the constant in-your-face nature of it got really annoying. LUCKILY they did really well and they completely removed that trap from the small rooms, and when enemies do spawn out of nowhere it’s usually a decent enough distance away from the player where you have time to react however you want to
Honorary mentions go to how they opened up so many more time slots at night but that one’s really obvious so I don’t really feel the need to yell about it
#what does the owl say#the owl plays p5r#vanilla p5 was still tolerable and given what i know of what happened during production i can't be mad at some of the smaller stuff#but so far p5r is addressing all of my gripes with the original in terms of gameplay and it's making my run so much smoother in comparison
