Four Paws are Better than Two

Summary
Vio, being the gay Link that he is, wants to get his boyfriend back. Unfortunately, things don't quiet go his way
Words: 4,405
Warnings: None
"Vio, this is a bad idea. You should wait until we have more concrete proof that this'll work."
"Don't worry Green. I'm eighty-seven percent sure this will work. I have all the ingredients and the time to do it is quickly approaching."
"I think you should listen to Green, Vio. I don't have a good feeling about this…"
"Red I promise this won't go badly." Four paused, waiting for his blue counterpart to pitch in. "Anyone else want to air their grievances before I start? Please do make it quick, there’s not a lot of time left." With that he looked up at the sky. It was very quickly approaching midnight. If he didn't start the experiment now he could be too late and miss this very small window of opportunity.
"When this goes wrong, I won't hear anything about asking us for help. When this goes wrong you're dealing with the aftermath yourself Vio!" Blue all but screamed in his head.
Four groaned, shooting a glare at someone that couldn't see it.
"I can't believe you agreed to take second watch just for this! I thought you were a good teammate and wanted to look out for the group but nooo- you want to do witchcraft in the middle of the night!"
"Blue there is no reason to yell, I can hear you perfectly fine!" Four hissed, starting to get the ingredients together. "Besides, we're in our Hyrule. We know all the monsters that could try to attack us. This ritual would never work if I tried doing it in someone else's Hyrule."
The blood of a fairy, a mirror shard, the true name of the dark, crushed monster guts, a hard metal and finally, the skull of a black cat.
It was no secret that his colorful parts didn't approve of what his Violet part was doing but Blue was by far the one who objected the most. Red and Green, while they also didn't like what he was doing, appreciated that he at least told them his plan this time.
"Goddess, is this what we've come to? Doing dark magic to bring back Vio's boyfriend?" Blue bemoaned.
"Blue, leave him alone. He said he was sure this wouldn't fail so I trust him. Don't listen to him Vio, we'll help you if anything does go wrong." Green chastised, giving Blue his most disappointed voice. Four wouldn’t remind him that he wasn’t one hundred percent sure nothing would go wrong, only eighty seven. But he wouldn’t correct his green part if it meant getting Blue to shut up.
"Thank you Green. Now shush all of you, I'm going to start."
He worked quickly in mixing everything together. He set the skull in the middle of the bowl he'd bought just for this. He didn’t want to be unhygienic by using a food bowl for this ritual. As he stirred the contents together, he chanted the ancient words to go along with the spell. Despite being a good distance away from their camp, Four kept his voice quiet. Some of their companions were light sleepers and it would be bad if one of them interrupted him.
He poured the liquid contents over the cat skull and just as he uttered the last word of the chant, a dark shadow seemed to cover the area they were in. Four winced and squeezed his eyes shut, the sudden darkness stinging his eyes. The pressure of the shadow seemed to crush them, a force pushing against him from all sides.
“Vio!”
“It hurts!”
“Guys, hang on!”
“It feels like we’re splitting but painful!”
“Violet, I'm going to kill you!!!”
The voices of his colors shouted in his head. A headache was quickly forming, his ears popping with the pressure change around them. It wasn’t soon enough when the pressure stopped, finally allowing Vio to breathe properly. He opened his eyes and looked around, hope slowly dwindling in his chest when he saw no immediate change in their surroundings. Though as he looked around, he did have to wonder if the trees were always this big.
"Ugh, my head is killing me…" he heard a voice complaining from behind him.
He whipped his head around, uncaring of the whiplash as he honed in on the darkly dressed figure sprawled on the floor. He was starting to make his way up, sitting on his knees as he gathered himself. "Shadow!" He cried, darting over to his best friend.
"Aaahh!" Shadow yelped, flinching back and falling on his ass. His panicked expression quickly morphed into one of confusion, squinting down at Vio. “A… talking cat?”
“Talking…? Wha- No, Shadow it’s me! Vio!” He desperately tried. “Remember? We teamed up together to take down Vaati, I betrayed my brothers to help you? You remember me, right?”
Shadow looked at him in confusion, shifting so he sat with his legs forming a circle. “What? No, of course I remember you Vio. I’m just confused,” he started, making a ‘look at yourself’ motion with his hands. “Was this supposed to happen or..?”
“What are you talking… about…” Vio started, slowing to a stop as he finally looked behind him. Behind him, he saw the glossy, deep violet body of a cat. The fur had an almost iridescent look to it, shining in the sparse moonlight.
“That. That is what I’m talking about. Plus, the others are over there and they’re cats too.” Shadow said and pointed to Vio's left, making Vio look over to see three similar cat bodies. There was a dark green one with light green patterns, a red one with almost orange waves covering it, and a blue one with a faint light blue crisscross pattern.
Vio felt his ears flatten, against his will, as he saw the blue one start to stir. “Oh Blue is going to kill me,” he whispered. “Shadow, it was nice having you back. Promise you’ll live a good life after I’m gone?”
“What’re you yapping so loudly about?” He heard Blue grumble from his spot on the floor. “Hylia, the body hurts Vio, what the hell happened.” He groaned and started making his way into a sitting position.
The red cat, Red, was starting to shift now too. And with it, the green one, Green, slowly lifted his head. "Hng, Blue?" Green mumbled, opening his eyes to look around. Vio saw the moment they locked eyes. Green went from confused and unaware to shocked (and even more confused) in an instant.
"Violet. Tell me we are not cats right now." Oh and Blue seems to have found out now. With Blue's words, Red seemed to snap awake, hurriedly shifting to his stomach to get a good view of everyone.
"Woah!!! Why are we cats?" Red almost yelled, looking down at his furry arms- legs? Paws. He tried standing up and even though he wobbled at first, he managed to keep his feet under him.
Vio looked over when he saw a blur of blue rushing at him, yowling when he got tackled to the ground. “Violet! What the hell! I thought you said this would be safe and wouldn’t do anything!” Blue yelled, pushing a foot on Vio’s shoulder to keep the other down, not letting him run away from the confrontation.
With his ears still flattened- he’d need to test what other body parts he could move- Vio decided to poke the bear even more. “I said I was eighty seven percent sure this would work, not that there wouldn’t be any side effects.”
Faintly he heard Red and Green trying to calm Blue down, even if Green himself was sounding a little panicked. “Blue this wasn’t his fault, there was no way he’d be able to predict that something like this would’ve happened.” He heard Green start, followed by Red.
“Yeah! It’s not the worst thing that could've happened to us! We could be fighting a dark version of ourselves! Or worse, the ritual failed to bring Shadow back and instead only turned us into cats!” Red said, bringing attention to the fact that the ritual did work and did manage to bring Shadow back to the world of light. Blue froze above him, seeming to notice the dark for the first time.
“You!” Blue hissed, ears pinned back in irritation.
“Me?” Shadow asked more than said, looking himself up and down. “Yeah, me.” He said with more certainty.
“Hylia, I can’t believe your stupid ritual worked,” Blue hissed, switching his glare between Shadow and Vio. “Actually, I can't believe your ritual turned us into cats! How are you going to undo this Vio! Please tell me you have some sort of spell, a ritual, anything to turn us back into a Hylian.” Blue pleaded. Pleaded, not begged, Blue would never beg.
Vio kept quiet as he tried thinking of a solution. He didn’t have any sort of back up, any fail safes in case something went wrong. He was eighty five percent sure nothing would go wrong so he figured that would've been enough but he should’ve figured something was going to go wrong. Now because of his carelessness he dragged his brothers into a mess that he has no clue how to solve.
“Remember how Legend said during his one adventure he got changed into an animal? He said he used a… um…” Red started, forgetting the word for the item.
“Moon pearl?” Blue supplied flatly, looking unimpressed.
“Yeah, a moon pearl! What if we go there and ask him to borrow it to change us back?”
“No way! There’s no way we’re letting others see us when we’re like this!” Blue defended, wanting to keep what little pride he had left. “Besides, we can’t tell them about us! They’ll treat us differently and start acting weird and different, like the people of Castletown did.”
“We’ll have no choice, how else will we get the moon pearl? It’s not like he’ll just hand it over if we ask for one. He’ll ask questions and figure it out either way.” Green reasoned, trying to make Blue agree with the plan.
It was quiet as Blue and Green tried silently fighting with each other. One wanted them to figure it out themselves while the other wanted them to ask for help. Vio, Red, and Shadow stood to the side, watching the two getting more and more irritated with each other. It took a few seconds until Red perked up, coming up with an idea by the looks of it.
“If you want to keep this a secret that badly, we could have Shadow get it.” Red interjected, ears standing up.
Green and Blue stopped fighting for a moment, looking at Red. “There’s no way they’d agree to that Red, but good try.” Shadow said, not seeing the looks the two cats were giving him. “It’s been, what? Two, three years since we were together? I wouldn’t even be able to copy how you guys act.” Shadow brought his hand up to gently rub Reds head, making his ears flop.
“Actually,” Green started. “We act the same way we did when you first met us, only we’re more solid now. It wouldn’t be too hard to pretend to be us.”
“And it’s your fault we’re like this. The least you could do is make up for it and help turn us back to normal.” Blue huffed, sitting down with a harsh plop.
“See Red I told you they wouldn’t- wait what?!” Shadow almost screeched, turning around to face the two cats. “What do you- how would I- huh?!” He paused, looking between the both of them before turning around to look at Vio. “Vio, you don’t agree with this, right? Please tell me you have a better plan than that.”
Vio was silent, looking over at the direction of the camp. "Hey Blue, which pocket is our spare tunic in? His pants could pass off for one of our spares but those boots need to be changed.”
“I was thinking that too. I put a spare pair of boots with our other clothes but I don’t know if they’d fit him.” Blue supplied, looking Shadow over.
“Maybe he could ditch the boots and wear our flats? They’re a little big on us so they should fit him fine.” Green said, getting an affirming nod from Blue and Vio.
“Wait! Wait, wait, wait, you guys can’t be serious about this!” Shadow cried, looking over the three cats. “And I didn’t agree to this! Don’t you need my consent before you start making plans involving me potentially walking to my death?”
“Fuck your consent, it’s your fault were like this. Help us or I’ll find a way to send you back to the dark realm.” Blue threatened, a growl in his voice.
Vio flicked his tail in Blue direction, not appreciating the threat. “Shadow, will you help us? We’re on an important quest and we need to go back to being Hylian so we can help our group finish the quest.”
Shadow bit his lip for a few seconds then sighed, seeming to come to a conclusion. “Fine! I’ll get the stupid moon pearl for you!” He huffed, throwing his arms in the air in mock anger.
“Yay! Thank you Shadow!” Red cheered, racing over to throw himself in Shadow lap.
Shadow looked down at the red cat in surprise but was quick to give his head a pat, using his other hand as a support as he leaned back. “So this uh, Legend? That was his name?” Shadow asked, continuing when he got four nods. “He wouldn’t happen to be sleeping right now? Y’know, get this over with quickly.”
“Legend keeps his bags organized in a way only he understands. He’s like Blue but worse,” Green explained, ignoring Blue protesting arguments. “You’ll have to wait till morning when he wakes up.”
“Wait, weren’t we supposed to be on watch? Shouldn’t we have woken someone up by now?” Red asked,
Vio looked over at Red in confusion. “No? It’s only a little past midnight, we still have a few hours until our shift is over.”
Red shook his head, pointing a paw in a random direction. "No, it's almost sunrise."
Vio, Green, Blue and Shadow did a double take at the random direction he was pointing at, finding that he was actually pointing at the quickly rising sun.
"Fuck." Shadow said, shooting into a standing position.
—
Blue, Green, Red, and Vio followed Shadow back to the camp, feeding him information about their teammates and giving pointers on how Four acted. It was weird seeing them from the third perspective but also weirdly entertaining watching Shadow struggle to imitate Green.
Their shadow had shape shifted so he looked exactly like them. Blond hair, golden skin. The only thing he couldn't change was his eyes, seemingly stuck on their deep crimson shade.
“You have to pitch your voice lower, Green’s voice isn’t that high pitched,” Vio pointed out, making a face when Shadow made the pitch too low. “No, before you were imitating Red but now you’re imitating Blue. You have to-”
“Vio, shush and hide!” Green whisper yelled, running into a nearby bush.
Vio tried following but froze when he heard, “Four? Where’d you go? And why do you have a cat with you?” Vio turned, catching sight of Shadows' frozen face. He turned fully and saw Sky, surprisingly the only one awake. Vio turned to look at Green, catching how Sky only mentioned one cat, and saw the rest of his brothers hiding in a bush off to the side.
“Oh uh- this is my cat. He somehow always manages to find me no matter where I am, it was only a matter of time before he found me,” Shadow smoothly lied to the Skyward Hero. He leaned down and picked Vio up, holding the cat against his chest. “I thought I heard monsters out in the woods so I went to go check and this little one found me. Don’t give him too much thought, I’m sure he’ll run off to wherever when he gets the chance." Vio lightly butted his head against Shadows chest, not liking how high off the ground he was but unwilling to do anything else about it.
Sky seemed fascinated by Vio, looking at him with wonder. “He sorta looks like a remlit back on Skyloft!” Sky lifted a hand to Vio. Vio felt his ears pin against his head, a quiet growl rumbling in his throat.
Feeling the vibrations from the growl, Shadow quickly moved Vio out of the way. “I wouldn’t do that. He bites strangers.”
Sky smiled at Shadow, seemingly unbothered by the threat of getting bit. "Don't worry, the remlits back home have some pretty nasty bites, I'm sure this little guy can't do much worse than they can."
As he said this, Sky set his hand in front of Vio, far enough to not be in his face but close enough for him to smell. Vio wanted to roll his eyes, that was not how you approached a cat! Looking off to the side, he could see his three other cat brothers in the bushes. Red was glaring at him, Green was shaking his head and Blue seemed to be encouraging him. Don't ask how, Vio just got the feeling he was.
If he could, Vio would've sighed as he butted his head against Sky's hand, letting the Skyward Hero pet him. Sky pet his head before moving down to his body, eyes full of excitement. "Woah, he's so soft!"
Vio let Sky pet him for much longer than necessary, not enjoying any second of it. Shadow picked up on his displeasure and adjusted so Vio was back on the ground. "I'm surprised, he usually doesn't let people touch him. He must really like you, Sky?" Shadow said the name as a question, looking down at Vio to see his reaction.
The cat nodded, looking at the master sword on Sky's back.
"I'm not too surprised, remlits are really friendly but you need thick skin to deal with them at night."
"Interesting. Well, I should probably wake someone for the third shift, I am a few hours late to that." Shadow pointed out, stepping around Sky to the center of camp.
---
It took three days and two nights for Shadow to change Four back into their normal, Hylian selves. In the end, the moon pearl didn't work and they needed to trick convince Sky into lending them the Master Sword. The only problem was convincing Shadow to hold the Master Sword.
Yeah… the past few days were just not on their side.
“I wonder why the spell went wrong. I checked over everything multiple times and double checked the ritual with Zelda. The spell should have brought you back and ended at that.” Vio found himself saying the next day while he and Shadow were alone. Green had volunteered to take the rest of the chain to go shopping, leaving his two brothers, Shadow, and Vio at the forge. While the two of them were supposed to be helping Blue and Red clean up and sharpen some of the group's weapons, Vio and Shadow had decided to sneak off and spend time together instead. Red didn’t bat an eye, only giving a discreet shooing motion while Blue openly glared at the two but didn’t say anything. They could all tell this would be one of the few moments that the two would be able to spend any real time together during their new adventure.
Shadow, who was lounging on his stomach next to Vio, gave a half hearted shrug. "Well, what were the ingredients you used? Maybe one of them went bad or something?"
Vio shook his head, knowing he didn't use any perishable items. "I used blood from a fairy, a mirror shard, your true name, some crushed monster guts, a hard metal and I think that's it?"
Shadow looked just as confused as Vio, brows getting more and more furrowed. Just as he was about to say something, Vio remembered an ingredient he'd forgotten. "Oh I forgot, I used the skull of a black cat too."
With that addition, Shadows' face went through a multitude of emotions. Confusion, shock, understanding, and finally, disappointment. "Well that explains it! You used the wrong thing!"
"What?" Vio asked, confused. There's no way, it's not possible he used the wrong ingredient! "What do you mean I used the wrong thing?"
"Skull of a black cat? Really? There was a chant too, right? What was the chant?"
"What are you talking about? I mean, yeah there was a chant. I had to say የድመት ጥላ ለመሆን for the ritual to work. But what are you talking about Shadow?"
Shadow facepalmed, digging his face into his hands. "Vio, how are you the smartest yet dumbest person I know? That translates to- god you're such a fucking idiot. That translates to being the shadow of a cat. You cursed yourself to be a cat to bring me back."
Vio was entirely confused now. He cursed them? But… that didn't make any sense? "But how?! Zelda and I checked over the spell multiple times and Zelda made sure to translate each rune! There's now way she would've let us do that if she knew it would turn us into cats!"
"And what's Zelda's favorite animal?" Shadow said with a raised eyebrow, already knowing the answer.
"Ca-" Vio cut himself off, getting the same look of understanding. "Cats. Cats are her favorite animal." Vio blankly looked at a wall, not understanding how he didn't see this coming. "The skull." He started, voice devoid of any emotions. "The skull wasn't needed, was it?" He asked.
Shadow shook his head, amusement rising on his face. "It wasn't needed, no."
"She knew this would happen, didn't she."
"She didn't look surprised when we went to see her."
The room was quiet for a few moments. Shadow watched Vio, waiting for his lid to pop.
"Hey Shadow?"
"Yes Violet dear?"
"Do you want to help me bury a body?" Before Shadow could answer, Red and Blue ran into the room.
"The groups coming back so we came up here before they- woah Vio are you ok?" Red asked, holding the door open for Blue before going to sit on the floor in front of the bed.
"Never better," Vio almost seethed. Almost. He didn't let his emotions get the better of him unlike someone.
Blue closed the door and opened his mouth but stopped himself when they all heard the front door open. The four of them could vaguely hear the group romping about downstairs and decided to keep quiet just in case. Vio turned to Shadow as they heard Green come upstairs, giving him a pointed look. "I expect you to help me with what I told you to help me with." Vio said as the door opened.
"I'll be downstairs in a second guys! Just need to grab some spare clothes from my room!" Green yelled out before swiftly closing the door. He paused for a second and opened the door again, yelling out, "and Wild! Don't touch anything!"
“Wouldn’t dream of it Four!” They heard their wild counterpart say before the sound of metal hitting the floor sounded out.
The four of them winced, not wanting to know what fell. “Alright, everyone ready?” Green asked, bringing his sword out of its sheath. Blue and Red followed, getting the swords and raising them halfway.
Blue turned to look at Shadow and glared at him with no heat behind it. “Make sure you two don’t do anything lovey dovey while we’re merged. It’s disgusting and I never want to experience that again.”
Shadow loosely raised his arms in surrender, easily giving into his blue brother's demands. “Deal, I wasn’t going to anyway. Take that up with Vio, not me.”
At that, Blue glared at Vio and menacingly pointed the tip of his sword at him. “No making out with the body.”
Vio looked at Blue, knowing what to say to piss him off. “Can we make out with my body?” Vio asked, slowly leaning closer to Shadow. Shadow took the hint and started leaning towards him too, shit eating grin on his face.
Blue glared so hard that Vio almost felt threatened. He didn't care enough to be too scared though. "Ten seconds. One. Two. Three." Blue started unexpectedly counting.
Too bad Vio was ready for that, grabbing Shadow by his shirt and lunging at him.
Red started giggling, Green gave them an amused look while Blue wasn't afraid to let his disgust show. He didn't forget to keep counting, saying the number 10 with such force that Vio swore the others had to have heard. Shadow and Vio broke apart, shit eating grins on their faces.
Blue groaned and grabbed Vio's arm, making him raise his sword. Vio complied and kept his arm up while his brothers raised their swords. He turned around to look at Shadow and waved his other arm. "Bye Shadow, I'll see you next time." He said, getting covered in light as he and his brothers finally merged into one person.
---
They had to stay merged during the day until the next portal came. Luckily, they were in the forge and got to say goodbye to their grandpa, even if they had to work together to discreetly let all of them say goodbye.
When the time came for the chain to leave Four's world, the shortest Link gave his grandpa a tight hug, making the older man promise to take care of himself.
"Smithy, it's our turn. Are you ready to go?" Legend asked as the second to last pair of Links went through the portal.
"Yeah, just give me one second." Four reluctantly let go of his grandfather as he said that. As Legend walked to stand before the portal, Vio quietly hissed out, "you better behave or I won't cuddle your ass for a week."
Shadow gave a quiet thumbs up, not at all affected by the threat. In fact, if he had a body, Vio bets he would have his stupid shit eating grin on his face.
Four, finally done saying goodbye, joined Legend at the portal. "Bye grandpa! Love you! Take care of yourself, old man!" He called out one last time before they stepped into the portal.

Rose Killer: Pt.5; Calm Before the Storm
Summary: you're the leader of the strongest mafia in London. What will happen when you're forced to team up with your worst enemy?
Warnings: Hostage-ish situation, language, mentions of death
Word count: 3384
A/N: taglist is open!
Slowly you open your eyes, light peeking through the curtains and lighting up a patch of the room, dust dancing in the brightness while Harrison still sleeps in front of you. "Haz." You whisper, gently shaking him. "Haz." He let's out a small groan and turns on to his back, eyes squinting in the light of the morning.
"Good morning." He says, his voice still groggy from sleep as be turns his head to look at you with a small grin grazing his chapped lips.
"Do you have anything planned for today?" You ask, a sudden idea crossing your mind causing excitement to sprout in you.
"Nope. Tom's busy all day though." He answers, twirling a piece of your hair between two of his fingers, his focus on the spinning strands.
"Good." You grin with a bite of your lip, sitting up causing Harrison's arms to fall off of your waist.
"You really hate Tom." He yawns, sitting up in front of you with a tired smile of his own.
"It wasn't supposed to come out that way." You grumble before continuing your thoughts. "We should have a picnic or something in the back yard."
"Sounds good considering this is probably going to be the last nice day of the year." Harrison agrees. "Won't it raise suspicions though? I don't think it's really good to have everyone know about us yet, yeah?"
"Yeah, we can just say we're eating outside. As friends." You say, a troublesome grin on your face.
"As friends." He repeats with a smile of his own. "But it's a little too early to go out now." His eyes glance to the window, the sun waking behind the curtains in the sky.
"Thank you Captain obvious." You sigh with the corners of your mouth raising more into a toothy smile. "So what're we gonna do?"
"Well it's like," he stops to look at the clock, "Another half hour until they normally wake up."
"What're we supposed to do in this extra half hour?" You yawn, suddenly finding it very chilly and pulling the plush duvet around your body to get warmer and conserve your remaining body heat.
"Boardgame?" Harrison suggests, motioning to the multiple boxes that sat in a neat stack on the bedside table.
"Sure."
You both climb off of the bed and to the table, finally landing on Candy Land before sitting on the floor.
-
"Nooo!" You exclaim as you draw the cupcake card while you were three spaces away form winning. Harrison laughs as you place your piece nearly back to the start, a pout on your face. "Shit, it's been like an hour! 'm starving!"
The two of you pack away the game and then step into the hallway, confusion setting into the mood around your duo. "Why's it entirely dark...?"
"I don't know." You mumble, fear clutching at your stomach and squeezing it as you cling to Harrison's arm, your mind telling you someone is going to jump out and take you back to that shitty excuse of a warehouse. You grab the gun attached to a holder around your waist and pull it out, holding it tightly at your side.
"We would've heard something if someone broke in." Haz assures you, though uncertainty laces his words. "Let's go downstairs." You both make your way down the flight of stairs, your grip now on Harrison's hand. Your breathing slows to make it silent just at the chance of attackers as you stop just where the wall stops halfway down the flight. You and Harrison point your guns down, hearing voices from the ground floor-
"Paddy, can you put these on the table?" A woman's voice says, a sigh of relief falling from Harrison's and yours lips before you release his hand from your grasp and finally step in to the kitchen.
"Ah Y/n there you are!" Nikki says giving you a quick smile. "Morning Harrison."
"Mornin." He replies, taking his seat next to you at the table across from Sam while you sit across from Harry. Paddy sets a large plate of waffles in the middle of the table, everyone else reaching for one like a pack of wolves while you wait for the others to get their own.
"By the way, why's it so dark? And cold." Haz asks, a bite of food in his mouth as he looks around at the dark ground floor.
"Power went out." Harry answers. "They've no clue what happened so it'll probably be like this all day."
"That's just lovely." You sigh in a voice barely above a whisper. While you find it easy to talk around Harrison and Tom, everyone else you can hardly talk to them at full volume half the time, only adding a comment in every now and then. You're getting better, but it's still a struggle to hold a five minute conversation.
"Can't be too bad." Sam shrugs before taking another bite.
"Guess." You sigh, cutting your own waffle into bite sized pieces.
-
"Haz!" You exclaim as he takes the fedora off of your head, placing it on his own with a wide grin. Staring up at him, you reach for the hat but Harrison gently grabs your wrist and moves your hand down with a chuckle.
*You reach up to punch your attacker but he roughly grabs your wrist, forces it down, and ties it before continuing to beat you.
You pull your wrist away and hold your hand in the opposite one, fear coursing through your eyes and veins as your empty gaze is set on the wall opposite you.
"Y/n?" Haz asks, the smile fading from his features and instead is replaced with worry as he searches your face for an answer.
"'m sorry..." You mumble, looking down in embarrassment. Why did you keep doing this?
"It's fine darling," he assures you, a light pink dusting your cheeks and ears at the pet name, "Just tell me if something's wrong."
"Okay." You agree, looking up again. He places a chaste kiss to your forehead before placing your fedora on your hair sideways and continuing down the hallway, you running after him after fixing the hat.
-
You're watching the news on your phone, still finding it a necessity to see what's happening while you're on a small break so you know what's happening. "This morning twenty two year old Aniya Roxian was found dead in her apartment. The authorities are still-" your mind freezes and your blood runs cold. No. No, Aniya can't be dead. She can't be. You start anxiously scrolling through the article hoping against hope that you heard wrong, but it says it clear as day. Aniya Roxian.
A suffocated sob comes from your throat and out your mouth as the tears immediately start pouring in streams down your face as you burry your face in your pulled up knees, hugging your legs tight to your chest.
"Y/n?" Harrison's voice asks with worry as he climbs up the bed to you from his spot in the desk chair. "Y/n what's wrong?" You don't respond, only hand him your phone with an incredibly shaky hand before going back to weeping for your friend.
It's your fault she's dead you tell yourself, although you know it's not true. Her father had run a smaller mafia and she was for sure a target of at least one person or mob, but you couldn't help but blame yourself.
Harrison immediately knew who the article was about; your friend had been in your files that'd he'd studied with Tom before you moved in. "Come here." He says, holding his arms open which you immediately fall into, not finding any strength to even sit up by yourself.
You're numb. You feel as if you've caused another death of someone you love. First Tyson. Then your parents. Now Aniya. Everyone you love is slowly disappearing due to this fucking business. How will you be able to survive another major loss like this one? You're in pain but your numb, your body turning to ice with a raging fire trapped underneath it.
"It's all my fault." You sob, burying your face in the crook of Harrison's neck, the stream of tears from your face continuing down his shoulder in a river of grief.
"No. Don't say that. Don't you dare blame yourself. She was part of a mafia too. It's not your fault, don't think that." He says sternly, running his fingers through your hair and working away the knots with gentle tugs.
"W-what if you you... What if you d-die too...?" You whimper, your sobs stopping but the waterfall from your eyes staying strong.
"I know what I signed up for when I joined this business. So did you. We both know there's a risk one of us will die, but we're both strong." He replies instead of giving a straight answer, but you can't and won't ponder over that now, to focused on your emotions in the heat of the moment.
"Thank you." You sniff, pulling away slightly so your faces are not even an inch away from each others. "Like I said. I'll always help you." Harrison says with an ever so slight smile. You look into his bright blue eyes, the iris's seeming to gently wave like a body of water. You find an odd calm in staring into his beautiful orbs, watching the blue waves lap up onto an invisible beach. Slowly, you lean forward until your lips are on his, electricity erupting in your face then through the rest of your body sending your mind into a peaceful bliss, all of your attention focused on the feeling of his lips on yours. He nearly immediately returns the kiss, arms going around your waist and pulling you closer as you cup his face with one hand. The kiss is slightly needy as if both of you have been waiting for another chance to kiss the other, but also soft and slow, not to rough to intend anything sexual, it's just right. The small interaction clears the grief, disbelief, and sadness from your thoughts and replace them with a peaceful emptiness, your head empty of all thoughts, your body taking control of your actions.
You only break the kiss when your lungs can no longer suppress the need for air. The two of you stare at each other, lips slightly swollen and eyes filled with adoration as you study each other's features. His perfect lips that seemed to be perfectly made for yours, his crystal blue eyes, his sharp jaw line, the scar running from where his cheekbone meets his nose to the center of his cheek. Your hand goes up to again craddle his cheek, this time your thumb running down the mark. An emotion you're not able to read consumes his eyes as he stares at you, your brows furrowed in concentration. He gently nudges his face more into your hand, a warm feeling filling you and kicking out the guilt that once occupied your stomach from this boy you love having a scar because of you.
Harrison's hand rests on your calf, the other fiddling with a group of strands of your hair while you went back and forth between tracing the scar and rubbing small circles into his cheek. How you got here it doesn't really matter - and to be fair you're entirely fine with forgetting it - but both of you felt strangely calm with the other randomly drawing shapes or tracing lines or playing with their hair. As odd as it sounds, though, it works for both of you so you weren't going to say anything about it.
"How is everyone here's hair curly?" You ask, hand moving from Harrisons cheek to one of his curls that sit atop his head. A light chuckle falls from his mouth, causing a microscoptic smile to form on your face.
Harrison's hand drops your hair from his hand and moves to your face to wipe off your dried tears, warmth sprouting from the spot where his palm cradles your cheek. You copy him and gently push your face more into his hand as if that were possible. Bringing your hands down to your sides, your eyes flutter shut for you're suddenly drastically tired - probably from fighting your own mind to push out the overwhelming sadness of the death of Aniya.
"Tired?" Harrison asks, and even though you can't see you can tell he has a smile painted on his face, the smile that brought light to your darkest days. "Maybe..." You mumble, lips barely parting with your words as if you were just breathing instead of having a conversation. He doesn't say anything more but hands slip under your arms and then lifts your figure up earning a small squeak from you before they lay you onto the mattress, they themselves laying down, pulling the duvet over you both.
"Thanks." You say quietly, shrugging into the warmth of the blanket, for the room was freezing due too there being no heat except that from your bodies. "No problem." Harrison replies, sleepiness evident in his mashed together words and heavy eyes.
You scoot closer to him and wrap your arms around his middle, a tired grin splitting across both of your faces before He drapes an arm over your waist then up your back, pushing gently to move you against him. You oblige without question, your forehead now against his chest while the rest of your face is angled away.
Again you feel protected, like Harrison's embrace can shield you from everything dangerous and horrible thing in the world. Only one other time had you been this close to someone. Tyson
And he feels like he's your guardian with your much smaller body nearly surrounded by his own, your breath lightly fanning onto his skin. His head rests with his chin on top of yours, and after sensing your breathing pattern change he follows, still in disbelief at this unlikely relationship.
-
"Y/n." A voice says pulling you out of a nightmare filled with dead loved ones. You blink your eyes open, fresh tears shedding from your hardly awaken eyes. A sigh of relief falls from the other person's mouth. "You were having a nightmare."
"Y...yeah..." You reply quietly, not knowing how to respond guilt and more embarrassment coursing through you.
"You okay?" They ask, neither of you moving to look at the other, fine with just feeling of the others heart. "... Yeah." You say, ignoring the soundless tears falling onto the bedsheet and instead focusing on Harrison's breathing. A small shudder falls from your quivering lip as you place a feathery kiss to the bottom of his chest before pressing your forehead against the spot and letting your eyes fall shut again.
"Night." You mumble, half asleep but managing to mutter the word. "Good night darling." Haz yawns, his chin pressing into the top of your head before his jaw closes. You sigh in contentment before allowing sleep to take you into it's grasp and hopefully not into another night terror.
-
You wake up into the dimmed room with the sunlight shinning in slightly through the part in the blinds, the golden rays being the only light. Great. You think. The powers still out.
Your eyes go to the figure in front of you, the sound of Harrison's soft and even breathing filling your ears. You press another soft kiss to his skin, him almost immediately waking up at your touch.
"That's a lovely way to wake up." He mumbles, arm moving off of your waist to stretch taking most of his warmth with it. You turn on your back and scooch upwards into a half sitting position so you're head is at the very back of the pillow, Harrison's head next to your chest. "I'll be right back." He sighs before getting up and walking towards the bathroom, a hand running through his hair.
Your eyes again flutter shut, causing you to fall half asleep though your attention is brought back to the world by the sound of something slipping off of the table. Immediately, you sit up and see a hand slowly grabbing your knife, a mouse stealing cheese from a trap. Rage boils through your veins as you snatch it out of the small figures hand and spin them around so their back is pressed against your front with your arms secure around the small shoulders, the side of your knife on their neck but not to hard to draw blood - Yet.
"M'kay do you wanna-" Harrison starts before seeing the situation. "Y/n...? What're you doing with Paddy?"
"He was trying to steal my knife." You hiss, venom drenching your words as you look down at the head of red, his hands holding your forearms to try to pull them down.
"Let's put the knife down..." Harrison says slowly, his hands up as he walks cautiously towards you. "And then let Paddy go."
Slowly, you ease down the knife so you're holding it at your side, but your arm remains around the frightened teen. Harrison makes it to you and, with great difficulty, removes Paddy from your grasp. He nods to him to go, him quickly running out of the room, a gazelle running from lions he narrowly escaped.
"What was that all about?" Haz asks after Paddy's out of earshot.
"He was trying to steal my knife!" You exclaim in defense, setting the blade down and grabbing your rose from the previous day, tucking it neatly behind your ear. "It's kind of my instinct to attack if someone tries to steal my stuff."
"That doesn't seem like something he'd do..." He mumbles, brows furrowing together in thought as he ponders over the actions.
"It's his fault he was attacked." You state with your hands on your hips, pacing back and forth in front of your boyfriend with a pissed off look clear as the fact that the power is out.
"We can figure this out later." He sighs, running a hand through his disheveled curls again. "The power is driving me insane."
"How much longer will we be in the dark?" You ask, brushing through your hair with your fingers and watching your motions in a tall, thin, mirror in his room.
"Who knows. They still haven't figured out what's wrong." He says softly, coming up behind you while wrapping his arms around your waist and setting his chin on your shoulder that doesn't have your hair flung over it. You smile softly and continue to detangle the knots, letting out a small squeak when he pulls you closer to him. The slight smile grows as you reach up, mess up his already messy hair, and go back to your own.
"Hey!" He exclaims, removing one of his hands from your waist to brush his curls out of his eyes. You grin, pulling your bottom lip between your teeth. "You'll regret that." Harrison hands reach to your sides and start tickling, causing you to yell out and fold into him, both of your laughter ringing through the air like music to your ears.
"Harrison!" You giggle, the two of you falling onto the floor in a tangle of limbs. His fingers stop moving to make you laugh, instead both of your laughter fades as you stare at each other. Harrison had landed on top of you after you fell and now has one hand on either side of your head to prop himself up. You cradle his face with both of your hands before pulling it down to yours, lips meeting in the middle and moving in sync.
"Hey Haz!" A voice calls out.
