Oh shit. I finally have it put into words

I have finally figured it out.

That "'found family' that is in no way a 'make-believe' nuclear family, that does NOT have pre-defined relationship roles doled out to the participants, just people from wildly different walks of life + attitudes bonding through a shared hellish experience who would be there for each other no matter how late the nightmares hit / that will help you bury the bodies without question no matter how cold it is outside"

...THAT is how I see all the Dream Friends being in Kirby.

#but also. it personally bothers me seeing dedede portrayed as the/a “dad”#and i just realized why #because if i had to put a word to him and kirby's relationship they're more like brothers #yeah they'll get into fights about stupid stuff. they'll make everything into a competition they'll say they're rivals and they hate #each other and go a match all the time #but they still love each other. they'd die for each other and if you hurt either of them the other's coming for you #something that's always bothered me is that people will have modern dedede act around kirby the same way he would his waddle dees #(a relationship i DO see as more aki. to fatherly)#but nah him and kirby's thing is very distinct and not like the father-son thing a lot of people have going #i have similar thoughts on kirby and meta knight but that's a whole different thing #this works twofold btw. not only does it acknowledge dedede's antagonism and rivalry but also how kirby isn't just an innocent child
