on caped c/rusader Harv . the last two episodes felt like the best decisions they made with the character . It was almost like 'okay right decisions good job but wrong Harvey . " like if that last episode happened to my baby girl ? ;-; it would be far more of a loss . BUT I also understand that they were playing Bruce as an asshole too and they reflected each other and both changed , Bruce changed because of Harvey and seeing him actually get upset about him at the end was a nice beat but they had missed so many beats before that . It's hit and miss . Everytime Harv apologised for Twos and was accepted I was like :] that's nice . And I liked all those moments and the restaurant scene a lot . I still can't trust T/imm with Barbara after everything but her and Harv teaming up was wonderful .
I also thought , and no disrespect to the voice actors I'm sure they were doing their best with the directions they had but honestly they were the wrong voice overs for the parts of Bruce/Batman and Harvey/Two Face.
I need directors to understand that the best Harvey Dent NOT TWO FACE [ because this is paramount before even thinking of Twos ] is a Harvey who baby girls his way all over the place . The results don't lie .

How do I get into DC and batman and shit without reading a trillion comics
the animated shows are a great way if you dont want to read comics, batman especially has a ton of cartoons since you named him specifically (btas, brave and the bold, the handful of justice league cartoons, batman 04, so on and so forth) (brave and the bold especially is great cuz it has a bunch of dedicated episodes to C tier jobbers no one gives a fack about..its how i found out about characters like plastic man and blue beetle :) not that theyre c tier jobbers though..)
if you meant more that youre overwhelmed by the sheer amount of comics a character like batman has....yeah there is a lot
my advice is to grab onto some specific character or plot youve seen floating around online and latch onto it like a leech and just start from there....ermm for example.. i was enchanted by a friend of mines batjokes art so i went to go read the storylines they were drawing fanart from (they were contained in batman 2011- its a run i really enjoyed! funnily its the only new 52 comic i enjoyed. batman why do you get it all)
and from there, there were a few characters i remembered being interested in seeing out of the corner of my eye, like barbara gordon and cassandra cain, so i read batgirl 2000 and birds of prey 1999 (both bat affiliated books) ....its not the way everyone would do it but i dont see a problem with working your way backwards through comics! i read a little of nightwing and robins comics that were running alongside bop and batgirl but mostly i just focused on what grabbed me and let the love in my heart guide me.
theres also a buncha stupidhero movies. and games! none ive played personally but i heard the arkham games are preddy good.
hmm as for newer comics though i think the current ongoing worlds finest (superman & batman series) is good, its written by one of my favorite writers mark waid. and drawn by dan mora so it looks pretty too. and itd be shorter than some of these older comics....but older comics are so good...give them a chance...
#asks#i hope i answered ok i think i get carried away rambling a lot when im trying to explain myself#to say again though i think dipping into the cartoons is a great way if you dont want to read a buncha comics are the moment#batman the animated series is a classic..and i have a lot of fondness for batb

I would love to hear your thoughts on YJS3
sure! fair warning, though, I'm a ranty person by nature so this might end up being a bit long. sorry in advance ♡
anyway! things I liked:
the humor: s3 was pretty funny lmao, theres that whole collection of outta pocket scenes from throughout the season that I find hilarious each time + the humor was a little more dirty which is nice bc the audience has also grown up from the kids they might've been when they watched it on CN
dickbabs!: I'm not a huge fan of dickbabs, I prefer dickkory (no hate to dickbabs stans btw I just vibe more with dickkory) but this dynamic between the two of them was so sweet and well-balanced I couldnt help but squeal everytime they were on-screen
Clark and Conner getting along: them calling each other brothers was so CUTE I canttt
FORAGER: an absolute legend 10/10 freaking love him
That Episode With The Hallucination: mmmmmmm I miss wally. SO MUCH. and the og 6 I was Super Mad about the first timeskip so it was nice to see them all together again🥰
yeah that's about it for things I liked lmao. now time for the Much Longer list of Things I Hated:
HALO: young justice the bar was so fucking low how are you still successfully doing the limbo what the fuck. you take a muslim immigrant in what is VERY CLEARLY a hijab and 1. infantilize her to an exceptionally uncomfortable degree (I KNOW SHE WAS THE MOTHERBOX, I DONT CARE) to the point where she resembles a five-year-old with every sentence she speaks or action she takes 2. you made a visibly muslim girl claim that she's actually no longer muslim, she's just wearing the hijab as some kind of security blanket???? I'm sorry??? what the fuck were you aiming for here exactly 3. why did you have to name her violet harper. what. 4. really?? the immediate romance with brion? What the shit was up with that...you make her Muslim in some aspects like victor not seeing her hair when she brushes it but her LITERALLY making out with brion like I'm sorry what the fuck are you doing??? you had one muslim character and you fucked up so bad holy shit...like...it could've been simple as hell, man, but no...Big Yikes.
M'gann: I've said this before but I really feel like once they introduced artemis m'gann immediately became a side character whose only job is to be villainised again and again even though it doesn't really vibe with her character. Secret teams?? Lying to Conner??? This isn't s3 but that whole thing with their breakup in s2...what the shit are they doing to M'gann, man. I loved her so much in s1, she's literally trying her best after having gone through so much and it's never fully explored...like we get half explanations every season but we're never shown half the shit that we were given for artemis. And by making her the Uncool Girlfriend at points it just looks like they're trying make her easy to hate like what the fuck. no. stop it
The Plot: too overcomplicated, too many characters. It's only season three, why are you introducing Apokolips already. Why are there so many characters?? what's with all the subplots yall were switching location cards every five minutes. And it's so convoluted...like...what was going on with Beast Boy and the monkey-god-doom-patrol-exposition stuff? I can't even remember if there were two granny goodnesses or just the one. All of those meta kids left over from the last season are a cute cast but like...I was so bored??? we know you can do well-written self-contained storylines a la s1, so hop to it, yeah?
THE ANIMATION: ok ok ok so. season 1 and two (one especially) had a very distinct feeling to them and that feeling was very late-2000s Cartoon Network Action Show - the base model for the males and females is the same (like Ben 10 Alien Force) the colors were not dynamic (stayed the same no matter the lighting, lots of cel shading, and generally were realistically colored in the sense that suspension of disbelief was not entirely necessary) CHEEKBONES, gritty textures and purple skies (Batman the Brave and the Bold). overall theres a certain Tone to the earlier seasons that spoke a lot to the animation capabilities of the studios at the time, as well as the general feel of the show. however, season three was a MAJOR downgrade in terms of animation. they made it both simpler and more complicated - they started using their DCAMU animation style which while it does give muscles to the women, adds too many unneeded shadows and a strange stiffness and dullness to every character. There are now extra lines and uncessesary shadows on the face of every character, and their eyes and facial features are almost identical. There's also less highlights, and the hairstyles are way too overcomplicated now to be appealing (see mgann and dick) - the hair is unspeakably dull and and the skin tones and hair colors are painful on the eyes. This isn't even taking into account the shitty backgrounds they've started using (AHEM AHEM ARTEMIS'S KITCHEN) because while the earlier seasons may have had unappealing, mostly empty settings, the characters still fit in to the scene, unlike now.
the lack of sisterhood????: apparently, only artemis goes to see zatanna for her Dr. Fate appointments. Apparently, M'gann barely talks to Artemis after the very tragic apparent death of Wally. the two of them, dare I say even the THREE of them, should be close as hell considering they spent their early years super-heroing together on a team full of boys. M'gann LITERALLY called Artemis her sister in the SAME EPISODE she was introduced, and neither of them had any real girlfriends other than each other at this point. M'gann who fell apart so hard Artemis died in her head that she almost killed them all in her grief. Like. You're telling me, you're SHOWING me that these two aren't each other's support system? Where is the sisterhood, bitch????
Lastly: the costume design. I understand that they're constrained by the need to make it simple enough to animate, but COME ON. if you're going to borrow Diana's DCAMU/JL: War costume, at least keep the metal silver. What the fuck is that green-gold. And Tigress? god DAMN that mask is ugly. Cassie looks like she robbed a goddamn supermarket discount clothing aisle for her outfit. Why is bart's outfit Like That it's so ugly it makes me want to cry. @ young justice costume designers Please Rethink Your Decisions
that's about all I can think of right now. it got REALLY negative whoops, but theres just so much I didn't like about this season :/ hopefully the next one will better ;-;

In which animation is the reason my standards are so high and I'm still single
A “rant” which no one asked for but I’m doing anyways. And if you say this has never happened to you you either had no childhood or are a dirty, dirty liar.
Anyways, this is my Top 10 (in no particular ranking of favorite) list of cartoon characters I had a crush on as a child. Now allow me to clarify: most of my childhood was from the arbitrary 2000-2009 time period so most of the entries in this list will be from that era and before it, though if I get enough calls I might be convince to do a top 10 current cartoons I have a crush on list. Also, some entries may be recorded with hindsight, as I did not realize that I was bi-romantic until a few years ago, and making this list forced me to look back and realize, “oh yeah, I did have a crush on them”. In addition, I didn’t get into anime until I was like 14-15 so there will be no “official” (meaning it came from japan) anime on this list.
Also, to keep it fair I’m limiting it to one entry per show, that being said, there is enough material to do another list later if anyone is interested. I will officially begin this under the cut so it doesn’t take up too much space on anyone’s dash.
Without further ado: My Top 10 Childhood Cartoon Crushes
10. Double D from Ed, Edd, ‘n’ Eddy
Let’s just kick off this list with a character from what I think is one of CN’s most iconic shows from this era. First off, look at him in this GIF, he looks so done. And here’s the thing, he was the smartest yet most socially awkward of the Ed’s, of the whole cul-de-sac really. Double D was always the one making the plans for the construction of eddy’s latest bid to get quarters for jawbreakers and I always ended up feeling bad when Kevin or any of the other kids would pick on him since he almost never actually did anything wrong, he was merely guilty by association. Not to mention, literally almost every girl in this show had a crush on him: Sarah, Naz, Marie. I think the only girls who didn’t have a crush on him were Lee and May because they foiled the other Ed’s. And why? Because he was an honest to goodness gentleman and a lot more (for the most part) mature than his peers. 10/10 would date.
9. Atomic Betty from Atomic Betty
Allow me to preface this one by saying this was one of my favorite animated sic-fi series as a child and, according to a panel I attended at an anime convention, falls into the magical girl genre of shows. Atomic Betty had it all: the titular character was a redheaded tomboy who also wore skirts, and yet her femininity was never in question, she was confident and capable as all hell -especially when taking on intergalactic baddies- but she was also a huge dork when it came to her own crushes, she was the LEADER of her team, and she rocked pink, heels, and lipstick as well as she rocked a skateboard and helmet. Summation: Atomic Betty was awesome.
8. Rikochet from Mucha Lucha
(The one in the forefront with the star for those who haven’t seen the show) Rikochet probably spelling that wrong but whatevs was a luchador in training and the defacto leader of his friends though arguably Buena Girl was the most competent out of all of them. Rikochet was was oftentimes the audience’s POV character so we really got to know more of him beyond his luchador persona. He liked to get in trouble under the guise of adventures but had a heart of gold. Not much to say, but he was someone I remember crushing on so…
7. Juniper Lee from The Life and Times of Juniper Lee
Badass girl of color, fighting monsters that no one else can see. Sure the mythology got a little mixed up at times, but she was kickass and I will hear no arguments to the contrary,
6. Blue Beetle from Batman the Brave and the Bold
Yes, this dork. What can I say? He’s a dork who loves superhero and gets to live his dream, that’s awesome and he’s awesome even though he’s still as much of a nerd as he was prior to becoming a super hero which only makes me like him more.
5. Manny and Frida from El Tigre the Adventures of Manny Rivera
I know I said one character per show, but these guys come as a pair and I honestly did have crushes on both of them. They just meshed in such a way that their characters almost didn’t seem complete without each other. They were, but when they were apart it felt like something was missing. Manny is the kid trying to figure out his destiny, Frida is the influence that is more than likely going to drive him to villainy, just because she loves getting into trouble. But I wouldn’t have them any other way.
4. Sam from Totally Spies!
First off, any kid who had cartoon network at this time and says they didn’t watch (if not enjoy) this show is a damn liar. Argument number two, refer to the GIF above. In all honesty though, while I wanted to be Clover I was likely closer to Sam, and it took me years to be ok with that. Sam is intelligent, calm in the face of danger, was the least likely to be fooled by deception (excepting the episode this GIF comes from ironically enough), and the least likely to be a damsel in distress. Also, one of the most aesthetically pleasing valley girl nerds to ever exist… so, yeah
3. Ulrich Stern from Code Lyoko
Though I’m sure the rest of this list has made it abundantly clear I have a thing for nerds, this may be one of the exceptions to the rule. Ulrich is one of the most unrealistically realistic characters on the show. He’s stereotyped as this popular athlete who just happens to be nice as well; yeah, that cliche. And to some extent that’s true, but the further we dive into the series the more his flaws are revealed. He gets jealous, he’s a little recklessly impulsive, and to be quite honest he can be kind of a dick to people he doesn’t like read Sissi. But he’s still a good kid overall and even matures over the course of the show so yeah, I really like him.
2. Bloom from Winx Club
To clarify, I mean specifically the Bloom from the original Cartoon Network 4Kidz dub Winx Club, not the one that attempted to air on Nickelodeon a few years back. Bloom is the POV protagonist of the series, who goes to Alfea College for Fairies only to find out she’s not only the “last” surviving member of her home planet Sparx, she’s also the youngest princess of said decimated planet and holds within her a legendary force known as the Dragon Fire. But no pressure, right? Kind, sweet, but not one to mess with as she gains more and more control of her abilities and unlocks new fairy forms through the show’s run. She’s just an awesome character all around and I love her so much.
AND NOW, DRUMROLL PLEASE…. MY NUMBER ONE PICK FOR THIS FIRST LIST IS:
1. Chase Young from Xiaolin Showdown
I know I said there was no particular ranking to these characters on this list, but the entire time I was writing I knew this guy would be at the top. Again I need to specify that I like this particular iteration. Not that there’s anything wrong with Chronicles’ design -though the same unfortunately can’t be said for the rest of that show- I like this Chase the best. Anyone who knows me personally knows that i LOVE villains: I love what they can bring to a story, I love how they can act as a foil to their adversary, I love how sympathetic they can be, or manipulative, or downright dickish. I love everything about this character (from this run of the verse but that’s a rant for another day). I love this Chase Young, I love how for how ancient and worldly he acts he gets bratty and impatient, I love how the first season he’s introduced he’s trying to corrupt Omi, I love how he values his position of power so much he will undercut, but not ought right destroy for some reason, anyone in his path, I love that he keeps a collection of those he finds worthy as cats and seems to genuinely care for them, I love how even though his appearance doesn’t suggest it, he can be every bit as comedic as the other characters (except jack spicer, but jack was designed for comedy, Chase’s primary function is not), I love his backstory, I love how vain he is- to the point where he would blackmail a former friend to get a dragon for his immortality soup. I just flat out love this character. And shippers be damned, I had the BIGGEST crush on him while this show occupied my screen, to the point where I would get disappointed if Chase didn’t appear in an episode.
So yeah, that’s my top 10 childhood cartoon crushes. I’ll be quite honest, there’s way more than I listed though. Let me know if you guys want a sequal to this and tag what cartoon characters you had crushes on as a child. Thanks for reading!
