I'd say there's context for all of that, because like...there IS context? Here's the link to the series of fics that HAS that context even! But also...even with context...can't say that it's going to make any of this less weird.

Mostly Odile is looping because due to Loop's wish the universe got rewritten to make Siffrin's repression and emotional issues (the ones bad enough to get him stuck in a time loop in the game) 'someone else's' problem...or at least that's Loop's best theory atm!

The fun thing about that Captain America quote about planting yourself like a tree by the river of truth- itself a paraphrase of a Mark Twain quote- is that there's something pretty close to a right answer about who's "correct" to use it, right? It was written by J. Michael Straczynski, a guy whose superhero corpus contains at least three stories about superheroes ending up somewhere between cold-warfare and open warfare with the military industrial complex, and it was written in the back half of the Bush years, and it was written in response to a shared-universe event that was frequently characterized as something between a coked-up PATRIOT act and a Vietnam-flavored draft. All this to say that there are in fact a couple specific political lineages (center-left liberals and further) who have a much more valid claim on the quote as a rhetorical object in support of their positions than anyone else. But I've seen everyone use it, of all political persuasions. Cap with a speech bubble on their poster boards. Because nobody actually reads comic books, and at the end of the day "stand up for what you believe in" is famously agnostic to your actual beliefs
